Y510p battery not charging randomly

Q: Y510p battery not charging randomly

Some day I was using my laptop and then left it on for a while because I have to do something else (I left it for about two hours). When I came back the laptop was dead (at least I thought that because it was not charging the battery nor starting up with the charger plugged in). A couple of days after that I tested the laptop again, plugged in the charger and it was charging again the battery. I could start the system fine. After a reboot the system was not charging again, but the battery had some charge so I could start the laptop again. In summary, there's not problem with the battery (there is power going from the battery to the motherboard), there is no power going from the charger to the battery (sometimes it does, sometimes don't, but the most times don't). With the battery unplugged and the charger plugged in there is no power going to the motherboard. battery and no charger -> ok, power to the motherboardbattery + charger -> sometimes works, but almost neverno battery, only charger -> does not work Power jack tested and it's ok. Charger tested and it's ok. Also trackpad stopped working, windows does not recognize it. Thanks for your help and sorry for the long post.

Okay here are the details:Windows 10 HomeIdeapad Y510P, only a few years oldworks perfectly finebattery at 0%, plugged-in not chargingoriginal battery and power cordsI can't remember how to get this message to pop up again, but I remember it saying something along the lines of 'Lenovo does not support batteries they didn't make so we are going to pretend you don't have one in'. I have the same battery and charger that came with the computer. I've tried messing with the settings and taking the battery out and putting it back in. I've been to the BIOs screen and looked around. I've searched through forms and everything. I'm about to just buy a new battery for it and see if that fixes it. But I'd like to know what happened so I can prevent it from happening again. Did the battery just get too old and decide to die on me? It's been very frustrating.

Hi, maybe it was already posted but little had no results so i'm opening another message - there is no fix. I have Y510P with Windows 8.1 alomost a year (still have waranty). For now I'm using Battery Gauge Reset several times. The last time appear a problem. I started Battery Gauge Reset and when the PC goes 0% it power off and I can't power on it. After some struggle i found a way to charge it; I have to follow these steps exactly:1. Turn the machine off2. Remove the battery3. Remove power cable from the laptop4. Remove the powercable from the socket5. Insert the cable in socket6. Insert the cable in laptop7. Start the laptop8. Insert the battery while the laptop is starting Then I start to search a solution. I tryed everyting that I found. I already measured my voltage on the power adapter and that seems to work properly, reset BIOS to default setting, power off the PC and hold down power button for 20-30 seconds, reinstall Lenovo Energy Management, charge battery and disharge (from this acticle http://mobilesupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-y-series-laptops/ideapad... ), remove battery and uninstall windows battery driver then insert battery back. Nothing helped! Is there a fix for this problem or I have to go to service?

Hi guys. I try with my car power supply for PC and it works. When I put car power supply to Y510P it alarm me for high current drain for a 1 second and then alarm power off and PC and car power supply works fine. When I put AC power supply it doesnt work but after it have no DC voltage on the out. I have to unplug it from wall soccet and plug it again to works. I think that AC power supply have any high current safety system and power off the voltage.  Maybe problem is in battery.

I'm currently posting this from my phone so forgive me for any typos. I was playing a session of Overwatch when suddenly my laptop just shutdown. I then caught a whiff of a burning smell and couldn't detect if it was coming off the laptop. I was still able to start the laptop back up, but I noticed that the battery was draining despite having the AC adapter plugged in. It detected the AC adapter even, as it was in high performance mode... I just figured that the AC adapter was fried as despite being plugged in for a while after, it never got warm. So I went on amazon and ordered a replacement adapter. It's a 45N0112 adapter, an official Lenovo one. Tried to plug it in as of now, and I get nothing.  Battery led doesn't even blink. Tried the drain thing and it doesn't work. Removed the battery and tried to see if it would work of AC alone and I got nothing as well.  The odd thing is that when I plug in the old adapter, the led for the battery blinks but it hardly provides charge. I can still start up my laptop with what little charge is left so I'm safe to assume it's not a motherboard issue? What the heck is really going on? I saw all over that a 45N0112 adapter works for y510p as well, and the adapter I bought on amazon was from Lenovo for the y510p itself. Could it be I got a faulty adapter or is my motherboards input voltage gone to whack? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've never had any problems with this laptop, but this is... Read more

My stock battery has worked great for me since I purchased the laptop in '12. One day the power light started blinking (the same timing that it blinks when you tap the power button to put it to sleep) and I realized my battery was low although the charger was plugged in.The problem has persisted where I am working and the light starts to blink/power supply halts. If I unplug the power supply and plug it back in, the problem is temporarily fixed and the computer will begin to charge, however after a random amount of time (could be 30 minutes, could be 30 seconds) the blinking will reappear and I have to unplug/replug again.I tried clearing the static with the "battery out/hold power button down for a minute" trick. It didnt seem to help.

I recently got my Y510p Ideapad's charging port replaced due to it getting fried. Ever since then my Y510p has been charging however it doesn't register that it is chargingThis is a problem because the GT 750M within the laptop wont turn on unless the laptop registers that it's charging.I am using the correct charger with the correct voltage, etc Is there anyway to fix this issue or at least force the GT 750m to work without having it register the computer is charging? Thanks!

A:Y510P doesn't register it's charging

Hi Keanane ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you be able to use GT 750m by removing the battery and just running it on the ac adapter, as this would be a way to bypass battery start up of the GPU ?

With the charging issue :
1. Uninstall Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method battery from the device manager . Turn off

2. Remove the battery and unplug the charger , press and hold down the power button for 12 seconds to drain remaining charge within.

3. Plug in charger and place battery back . press the Novo button (item1 page 7) instead of power to turn on . Choose BIOS setup on the novo menu . Press F9 to reset BIOS default , F10 to save and exit .

4. Check how battery is charging , if same issue proceed uninstalling Lenovo Energy Management tool from control panel's Programs and Features . Turn off and restart , check again on battery .

5. To reinstall back Energy management , download and install from the support site under Power management tab after choosing the correct OS for you.

If the issue persist after doing this steps , you may call in tech support for further recommendation and assistance like BIOS update (available on support site) or possible service

Hi...

I am having a problem with my laptop computer. I figured out that my laptop, when being charged or using the Power Outlet, runs at 100% CPU at times, and slows me down when running and working on some open applications. At first I thought I had tons of spyware or even a virus, and even posted a Hijackthis file here. Nothing was found.
I figured out that my cpu runs at 100% when using the power outlet, or when my computer is chargnig. When I unplug the powercord and use the battery life, everything runs GREAT!!!!! my cpu drops to a normal 4-8% usage with multiple applications running. WEIRD huh? Can anyone relate to this ?? Is this and indication that my battery is going bad???? Can someone help me with this or suggest what is going on? I am running windows XP home edition, and have a compac presario 1500 series. I've had my HP Envy laptop for about 3 months, and yesterday I noticed that when it was plugged in it wasn't charging (the battery icon says "plugged in, not charging"). I turned it off overnight, plugged in, and this morning the battery was fully charged. It only seems to not charge when it is turned on. I have tried removing the battery, turning on, deleting the ACPI-compliant control method battery, turning off, and turning back on again (as advised in other forum responses), but with no joy. At first I thought it could either be a battery issue, but the fact it fully charged overnight whilst off would lead me to believe it's not, and is probably a software / settings issue. Any ideas please, I've run out of google search ideas!!

For some time have received the error message regarding under power smart adaptor with newer replacement HP adaptor matching original.  Battery icon lists % charge & "not charging".  Battery tests good in HP Support Assistant battery check.  Power adaptor will power my older Pavillion laptop but not  the Envy with or without battery installed.  Battery charging LED does not light.  Have tried re-calibration by deleting Microsoft devices in Device Manager.  Envy will operate with and without battery while using Dell power adaptor. Computer repair shop says Smart adaptor produces 0 voltage (even though it powers Pavillion) and I need a new battery (even though diagnostic test indicates good). Help!!!

Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS.
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

For some reason my laptop once stopped charging, I tried a few different outlets at a library and non of them made the laptop start charging again (charging = organge light glowing). I got home, and my outlets there didn't work either. THen after a while I tried an outlet again, and it worked. Then this problem occured one more time (then I fixed it somehow). And the last time it occured  I haven't been able to fix it. Trust me I've tried almost everything, I tried turnign it off taking the battery out and holding the powere button then trying to charge it, I tried waiting for hours, but  have not tried a new charger.  So here is the problem I see: I plug in the charger, and the charging LED does not glow, instead it randomly (it seems random) blinks.  I once left my laptop to do that for hours, and it still didn't even charge. Also I can't turn on my laptop without the battery (not sure if thats even possible, as I have not heard it is possible).  I'm going to send it back to Costco soon, but before I do, please help me figure out how to fix it, thanks

Can someone help me with this problem? So I just received my brand new Dell Inspiron 15 3000 and the battery is not charging. It says it's "Plugged In, Charging" but it never goes up and stays at 0%. At first I thought I just need to plug it in for several hours but it's been 5 hours now and still the battery stays at 0%. I tried running the BIOS Diagnostics just to see if there are problems and there's none. The battery status says everything is running normally and the Battery State says it's Idle. I tried draining the flea power several times, removing and reattaching the battery, but to no avail. I'm getting really frustrated and I'm really close to throwing this laptop back to Dell.
I read somewhere that I have to update the BIOS but it won't update unless the battery is charged at least 10%. Someone also suggested that Windows 8.1 is causing the problem. I haven't even started using this laptop and it's already giving me a *** ton of problems. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks guys! :)

Hey everybody, I'm writing this for a friend who I've been trying to help with this issue for a while now.He owns a Y510P and is currently running Windows 10 64 Bit on it.His laptop is mostly running fine, he can play certain games including WoW and LoL without an issue. Others, like Path of Exile won't crash completely, but sometimes the graphics driver will crash and recover, blacking out his graphics for a second or so but then resuming. Other games, like Deus Ex: HR, Overwatch, Vermintide or Helldivers seem to randomly crash in a matter of minutes. Either the game crashes back to desktop without a specific error message or the laptop locks up completely and he needs to restart. This seems to be somewhat related to the load on the system, as he can safely sit in the (already rendered) lobbies of Vermintide and Helldivers or play the practice range in Overwatch which doesn't have other player characters. Once in an actual game, the crashes quickly start happening. I quickly found people suggesting this might be an issue with the power-saving feature when the drivers mistakenly switch back to the integrated card for just a moment, which seems to be causing trouble for other people. But disabling the integrated card via BIOS can't be done without a third-party unlocked BIOS which I won't risk him flash on his laptop and possibly brick it. Other suggestions like forcing the game to use the nVidia card didn't work, either, cause those options were either not... HP g6-1b60us Notebook PCHere is the situation and symptoms. Battery not charging. Battery icon indicates battery being charged, but it sits at 5%. Have bought a replacement HP battery and that battery will not charge also (it sits at 50%, which I assume is the initial charge it came with). Run the HP Support Assistant and both batteries fail the test saying that cell 4 is bad (cells 1 to 3 have charge, but cell 4 has a 0 reading, even in the new battery). (Is there a problem accessing/charging cell 4?)When the battery is installed and the AC adaptor is unplugged, and the laptop is turned off, the battery charge LED shows a white LED (red/amber indicates that it is charging the battery); now the only time the LED goes out is when the battery is physically removed. Before the problem began, the battery charge LED would be off when the battery was installed and the charger was not being used. Now the battery charge LED goes off only when the battery is physically removed. What I have tried:Cleaned the contacts.Bought a new HP battery.Tried the complete discharge method of turning the laptop off, removing the power cord and battery and holding the power on key for over 30 seconds.Have done safe restarts.Reset to HP recommended settings.Suggestions/recommendations?

I have an older SL510 laptop, which has been working very well. But recently the battery power was continuing to diminish until recently, it stopped holding a charge altogether. At this stage, the orange battery indicator started to blink continuously at a rapid rate. I am still able to power up the laptop with my power cord connected. Purchased a new battery to replace the old and assumed light would go to green after charging. Unfortunately, after several hours connected to the charger, the battery light continues its constant orange blinking. Went through the process of uninstalling the ACPI file as noted in another post. Followed these steps:1. Disconnect AC2. Shut down3. Remove battery4. Connect AC5. Startup6. Under the Batteries category, right-click all of Microsoft's ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery, and select Uninstall (note that it is all right if you only have one).7. Shutdown8. Disconnect AC9. Insert battery10. Connect AC11. Restart your computerAfter completed this process, battery light continues to blink rapidly and battery doesn't seem to want to charge, or provide any indication that battery is inserted in computer. This happens whether I'm using either of the 2-power adapters I have for this laptop. What can I do to get this fixed??? Thank you in advance for any assistence provided!!!

I have just replaced my CMOS/BIOS battery today, as , I have faced some critical problem regarding regular BIOS date/time reset after system shutdown. But I want to know how do i recognize, that my new batter is totally ok or functional.

Battery Meter gadget shows that "battery Not charging"
Is it a gadget problem?

Is there any method available so that I can track that my new installed CMOS battery in PC is working fine?

Please help me.

A:Battery Meter shows CMOS battery not charging

The battery you have replaced is solely there to maintain the clock and other BIOS settings (if you have changed them from their defaults). It will not prevent you from booting your system if it is dead/missing; all it means is that you will have to enter the BIOS each time and make the correct settings and time. This battery is not rechargeable.

Do you still have to enter the correct time, or is the BIOS maintaining this now you've changed the battery?

I am becoming more and more concerned about my laptop's battery each and every passing day. When I check the bottom right of my computer screen to check if my computer battery is completely charged, it says "0% available (plugged in, not charging)". I have had to buy two new batteries because of the same thing and they also read "0% available (plugged in, not charging)". When I unplug my laptop from the power source, it turns off automatically. I cannot even bother calling Dell to check this issue for me because I bought this computer off the street for $35.

My question in general is how do I get this problem fixed and how do I keep an eye on how my laptop computer charges correctly (or not)???

Need Help!

The problem started from June 2, 2015 about 4 AM (UTC +8:00 Philippine, Manila)

I open my Notebook that morning to check on my e-mails and bills at gmail but it's not powering up. At first I thought that the battery was slightly drained because I saw my sister still using it at midnight. I asked her if she did not plugged in the charger when it is nearly drained but she said she plugged it and it is still full when she shut it down.

It is Li-ion Battery

I tried plugging in the charger to check whether it still has remaining battery. It powered up.
On the taskbar/notifications/running apps it says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging).
So to check out the problem, I left it turned off charging for about two hours.

Then after two hours it still says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
What the hell is this?! I asked my self.
I installed an app to check the status of the battery (Battery Bar)
Battery Bar says something like this:
Capacity: 2K of 8K mWh (not sure about this)
Charging: 0 mW
Running on AC
7.9% Available
Something like that.

Summary Notes:
1. Does not power up without Charger
2. It detects the Battery saying 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
3. Though Plugged In, Charging it does not charge at all because of 0 mW charge rate
4. It turns off when the Charger is plugged out.
5. It still run even without the Battery (when the Charger was plugged in of course, then a red x mark shows in the notification taskbar battery icon)

Thus:

Hi, I have read many people have similar issues for other models other than my Thinkpad x240 20AL but removing the battery won't solve my problem. It is plugged in, it says plugged in but battery is not charging (none of the two batteries this laptop has). I have gone to Driver Manager and uninstalled the 3 Microsoft drivers under battery section. After restarting or scanning for new hardware these drivers appear again and the problem is not solved. I have restarted de computer. Problem not solved I have removed the batter and put it back. Problem not solved. After one night, I switched on the laptop and one of the battery has charged. Right now it says plugged in, charging and it shows already 100% although it keeps charging. The other battery still shows 98% not charging.. I believe this must be a software issue, some power management that prevents the laptop from charging the battery. But where is that software and how to configure it or remove it? I have looked for Lenovo Power Management and similar and it is not installed on my laptop. Anybody knows what I am talking about?

For a few months now, at some point my battery would indicate nn% (plugged in, not charging) and would maintain that charge as long as it was plugged in. Running on the battery, the charge would eventually diminish and in order to get the battery to charge again, I have gone through to process of uninstalling the ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery in Device Manager. Usually within 24 hours, things would revert back to plugged in, not charging. However, that is no longer remedying the problem. (When this was an issue the indicator light next to where the AC Adaptor plugs in would flash blue. Also, I upgraded from Win 8.1 to 10 a few weeks ago, but this issue has been occurring for a few months now). Now the battery reads 2% (plugged in, not charging) and when I use the HP Support Assistant to check the battery, I get the message ?HP Battery Check was unable to access the battery?. I have performed a hard reset, reset the BIOS, and updated the BIOS, all to no avail. If I unplug the adaptor, the computer shuts off. Any suggestions for additional fixes? I have seen one additional suggestion to do a system recovery but I have not yet made a recovery disk for win 10 (I do have one for the win 8.1), and would it make any difference anyway since the plugged in, not charging problem was occurring under win 8.1?

I know that a battery not holding a charge can sometimes be a motherboard problem, I don't want to spend the extra $50 on a new battery if it is the motherboard. Is there any way to decipher which one is the culprit.

Batteries are consumables... They should always be changed first if a charging problem appears

How old is the battery? You do not have a Battery #2 more than likely. That would be the optional modular battery not the regular main battery.

My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop had a very good battery life(>6 hours), but today morning it showed an error message saying  "Battery has experienced permanent failure and needs to be replaced." I updated the BIOS from A3 to A10, but it didn't help! The PC starts only if its plugged in and the battery charge is constant at 82%. What should I do?

A:Battery not charging, message says "Battery has experienced permanent failure"

Hello SHUBHAMSINGH.ARARIA,
It's quite possible your battery did suffer a failure; the Lithium-Ion chemical reaction may (which produces electricity) have finally broken down.
First thing to try is to run Dell's diagnostics. When you first power it on, press F2 to run the ePSA Diagnostics & see if any failures occurred.
Have you tried powering the laptop on with the power cord and battery, then once it's loaded removing the power cord to see if it stays on?
Another thing to try: remove the power cord & battery from the laptop, then hold the power button down for about 10 seconds. Then reconnect the power cord, power it on, then reconnect the battery.
From here, once it's on, you can try removing the battery again to see if it stays powered on or leave the cord connected to see if the battery begins charging.

Hope this helps!

Sorry if im in the totally wrong area, first time post.

My laptop:
Dell m1730
Vista
4gig Ram

So my Dell M1730 one day decides to stop charging and then slowly looses its power until it goes dead, I have had this issue once before, so as I did before I let the laptop sit there for a couple of hours then plugged the power back in and it worked again. But now whilst im on it, it is always detecting the charger then not recognizing it and so on, until eventually it just stops detecting it and goes flat, and I have to wait a couple of hours before I can try again. I have checked the part that goes into the laptop, as in opened it and checked it, there was no obvious damage. So I have no idea whats wrong, Could it be the mother board? Why is it working if I leave it for a while?

Thank you in advance.

I also forgot to add that its my laptop, its not taking power, my battery is alright.

Can anyone tell me for sure if the long running problem in WIN 10 with battery not charging has been fixed? If not, I won't touch the WIN 10 upgrade with a barge pole - free or otherwise.

A:WIN 10 & battery not charging

You must be hearing some odd rumors- I've had no problems with Windows 10 over the past six months, and especially nothing related to my battery. Here's the funny part: Windows 10 doesn't do anything to help charge your battery. So long as you have a working battery, a working battery port, a working cord, and a working outlet, your laptop battery should charge normally. The battery and hardware/BIOS will typically maintain itself; Your OS doesn't normally interfere.

I own a Toshiba Satellite A215-S4757 laptop, and when I plug in, the battery light comes on indicating it is charging. After 3 or so seconds, the light turns off. At first I thought it was just something wrong with the light, but when I turned the laptop on, the battery says "Plugged in, not charging" It has never done this before. Any suggestions?

A:Battery Not Charging!

Two possibilities - bad charger or bad battery. Hope for a bad charger, when is relatively cheap to replace. The cost of notebook batteries are outrageous. Also, see if there is a break in the charger wire by rotating the wire. If the light goes off and on, it's a break.

Hello,

Just started having problems with battery plugged in and not charging, battery charge holds 96% not sure if that is good or bad.

Was wondering if going to device manager and clicking on Or select uninstall ACPI and scan for hard ware changes if this would work.

Have not tried this method yet. And I have not tried unplugging and let battery drain yet see if that might help.

Not sure if anyone knows how to fix battery plugged in not charging issue here.

I have searched for forum bout this issue and found nothing.

I have windows 8 64 bit.

Any suggestions is worth the wait.

Thankyou for reading.

Have a good day.

A:Battery not charging

I had this problem once with my laptop, to fix the issue I looked around and found this method:

1: Plug in your laptop to a power source
2: Open Device Manager
3: Open the battery drop-down list and uninstall the ACPI Battery driver you talked about in your post
4: Remove your laptop's physical battery
5: After a few moments, put your battery back into your laptop
6: In Device Manager, check for hardware changes (Right click the battery drop-down list and click "Check for Hardware Changes") and the driver should reinstall
7: Your battery should then start to recharge

Unfortunately this is a temporary fix and the "Plugged in not charging" bug may continue to happen. Tell me what happens next and I hope it works for you!

Hi Jermyn,
It could be that you will need to uninstall and reinstall the power management software which is located in device manager.
Try this:

Quote:
Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager .
Expand the Batteries category.
Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall .
WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver!!
On the Device Manager task bar, click Scan for hardware changes
Windows will scan your computer for hardware that doesn't have drivers installed, and will install the drivers needed to manage your battery's power. The notebook should now indicate that the battery is charging.

I hope this helps!

Hi, I've been using my Dell Inspiron 5559 carefully for the past 6 months and have a persistent problem for the last 3 months.
Whenever I turn on, plug in or awaken my laptop I am now receiving the "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge" message along with the BIOS message and "the plugged in not charging" message.
Although the battery is not charging, the laptop is still working fine otherwise when plugged in. It currently has <51% battery left and also seems to be operating as normal when not plugged in.
As the battery will soon deplete, I am essentially using my laptop as a desktop and am requiring it to be plugged in constantly.
Some things I have tried so far & other notes:

Cleaning, dusting, reconnecting, removing the adapter and moving it around a bit etc.
The Dell AC adapter is working fine - the blue indicator light is working.
The laptop works when plugged in and there is no battery inserted.
The same issue occurs on multiple plug sockets around my house
The same issue occurs when using a replacement new AC adapter.
Cleaning, dusting, reconnecting, removing the battery and moving it around a bit etc
Dell battery meter says "Your battery is performing normally"
No problems have been detected when using the Diagnostic tools for hardware
Update: BIOS is fully updated
AC Adapter is listed as 'Unknown' on BIOS
Uninstall/re-install battery drive... Read more

A:Battery not Charging

If the system is under warranty, call Dell for repair. If not, first try a new OEM Dell AC adapter.  If that doesn't get the system to recognize the adapter, replace the DC power jack next:
<<blog.parts-people.com/2016/03/01/dell-inspiron-15-5559-p51f-004-dc-jack-removal-installation/>>
And if that doesn't do it, replace the mainboard.
Without a recognized AC adapter, the battery will not charge (though the system will run).

I have a notebook HP that has been working fine. Then tonight I noticed that my battery was not charging so I took it out. The AC is powering the laptop but I was wondering if it is ok to use it without the battery on a daily basis. It is at my shop and I don't use it on the road since I have an iphone. If I don't NEED the battery, do I have to hurry and replace the battery(if that is the problem)? When I took the battery out I noticed it was rather warm. It has been extremely hot in Ca the past week. I do sometimes leave my laptop on overnight as I do tend to use it to listen to music or DVD while I sleep. I just need to know if using it without the battery is ok.
Ok that is weird, I just popped the battery in and now it is charging. Maybe it got too hot? Anyway, my main question is: is it ok to use just the power cord and not the battery?

A:Battery not charging

should be OK to use without a battery - I have used a sony this way for a while - BUT you do not want the battery to fully discharge as that will damage the battery, assuming it was not a glitch and the battery is not faulty anyway - How old is the Battery ?
If its been on 100% full charge all the time , that maybe the issue , depending on age of the laptop

I have a new Z70-80 with Win10 pre-installed on it and the battery in it only charges up to 60%. I read that this is supposed to prolong the battery life. A number of posts indicated that this behaviour could be changed via the lenovo energy manager (LEM), but the only SW for the z70-80 on the lenovo downloads site under LEM is a 1MB file called acpidriver.exe When executing the program there is no indication or sign of anything being installed, so I have no idea what it does. The only other program that I found was Battery Gauge, but that doesn't have any options for changing the charging limit. Does anyone know how to reset charging to allow for a full charge? Thanks for any infos ....  Edit: When checking the battery status via the Lenovo Settings App I always saw the status portion in the GUI and assumed that was it. I just looked again and noticed a very small gray scrollbar on the right. It always looked like there was nothing to scroll and I happend to click on the white portion and to my surprise there is a section below that, that has exactly that option to stop charging between 55%-60%. I will turn it off and see if I can get a full charge out of it.  Edit: Managed to get a full charge by turning off the Conservation Mode option

Pull the battery from the laptop and plug in the power supply. You can use the laptop without the battery.

Contact Dell and see what they say about the battery.

I could be wrong, but from what I've read - a complete discharge is not good on those types of batteries and the longer that a battery stays discharged, the more damage is done.

I have an Acer Aspire V3-771 laptop (which is three and a half years old) with its original battery. As the battery is not holding the charge for as long as it used to I decided to replace it. I inserted he new battery, which already showed a charge of 60%, and let it run down to the point when the laptop turned itself off. However, when I tried to recharge the battery, the battery icon showed "6% available, plugged in, not charging". I contacted the supplier of the battery and they sent me a new one. This showed an initial charge of 93% so, in view of my problem with the previous battery, I decided to try and charge it up to full capacity before letting it run down. But as soon as I tried this the battery icon showed "93% available, plugged in, not charging". So I unplugged the charger and again let the battery run down until the computer turned itself off. I plugged the charger in again but then got "6% available, plugged in, not charging". I have no problem charging the old battery, so can anyone please suggest what the problem might be? I have tried taking out the battery and unplugging the charger and holding down the power button for 30 seconds, but this hasn't worked. Grateful for any advice.

I was working on my laptop on Tuesday and when I unplugged power cord the computer gave me a low battery message.  So looking at my power cord (which gets packed up frequently for traveling) I thought I might need a new cord so I ordered one.   I received it today and plugging it in the laptop still has the "Not charging" when I look at the battery icon. I have ran the battery diagnostic test and it shows that I have over 88% battery capacity.   I am so sick of dealing with issues with this laptop I am ready to order a new Dell and ditching the HP one.  I have had numerous Dells and never had a problem with them (they usually last over 7 years with 8-10 hours of usage every day) and this HP has been a problem since day one.  Can't turn off the touch mouse pad so every time my palm/wrist/shirt sleeve goes across it it does it own thing.

It is not charging : Its says "plugged in, charging" but its not charging.now my battery is empty, (its says 3%) and my "new" laptop , who is only 2 months, does not turn on unless it is plugged in. Do you have a solution for my problem ?? ps: I tried to uninstall and reinstall the battery drivers from device manger, but nothing happened !! Is this a windows update problem or a battery problem, although my laptop has only 2 months ?Thank you for your help !!

Hi there @Rodgee,  Welcome to the HP Support Community where you can ask questions, find solutions and get help from others in the community! I wanted to reach out to you and help! I understand that your battery will not charge on your HP ENVY Notebook PC. You mentioned that you tried to uninstall and reinstall drivers and are not sure if it is an issue with the Battery of Windows Updates.  Please make sure that the AC adapter cable is not plugged into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source. It should be directly into a wall outlet.  There are a couple of documents that you can use to try and figure out where the issue is. The first one I would suggest is the Battery Does Not Power Notebook or Hold a Charge document. If your notebook computer battery will not hold a charge, you are best to follow the instructions in this document step by step to troubleshoot the battery and see if it needs to be replaced.  You can also use the Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 8) document. This will help you to determine the condition of your battery.  Have you tried to use the HP Support Assistant to download drivers and updates? Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that needs updating. Did this reply resolve your issue or answer your question?... Read more

Okay, when I drain my battery to 31% and below and plug-in to external power source, my battery wouldn't charge. My power settings are at High Performance, and it's a 6-cell battery from HP. Problems cease to exist when I am using Linux but it's been a problem ever since I was using Vista. I only know one solution to this: it's to remove the battery for 5 minutes or so, and then plug it back in.

Does anyone know the reason for this problem?

A:Battery Not Charging at around 31% and below

I know this does not help right away, but back when I got my first laptop with XP it had the same issue. It was also an hp laptop and shortly after, meaning just a few days after getting it, HP had a workable patch for it. If I am not mistaken it was a bios update. So Hit the HP website and see what they got rollin for drivers and Bios update.

I have a X40 Think Pad with two batteries. The computer recognizes both batteries but will only charge the primary battery and not the extended life second battery. Both show up on the power meter but the extended one stays at 0% charge. I thought that the extended battery had gone bad so I bought a new one. No change. Could there be a software problem with the computer? Is there any way to reprogram or reboot the charging program?

A:battery charging

The battery that will not charge does not have the circuitry in it that the computer is looking for to make it charge. You will have to purchase a special charger for it. The only other way around it is to purchase an OEM battery from IBM and that is mucho bucks....

Yesterday my notebook would not charge when in use. From 30% it drained to 0% and shut down itself. Could not switch back on. When switched off (not in sleep mode) it would charge up to 68%. When switched on it indicated 68% charge. Not charging. When in use it will reduce the power percentage, but will not recharge.

A:charging a new battery

make sure your power adapter is plugged in tight and the power scheme in the System Tray of the computer when it is in Windows, says that it is not using battery but the Power Adapter. You might try plugging the power adapter into the wall socket directly instead of a surge protector. If that fails then your adapter is bad or the connector to the motherboard is.

My laptop only works through AC power. The laptop works off of the battery if the battery is charged, but the laptop does not charge the battery. If the battery is plugged in and I plug in the charger the charging light does not come on and the laptop does not power on. On the other hand, when I turn on the laptop and then insert the battery the laptop shows that the battery is charging but the battery does not actually charge up. I thought this was due to a bad battery since I have had this laptop for a couple of years so I bought a new battery but I have the same exact problem. I have tried a different charger but I also have the same problem. Laptop specs:HP Pavilion dv6-7043Windows 7  64 bit Battery:671731-0016CLNE06AX2G136 Any help would be appreciated

Hi amkazant,

Welcome to the HP Community! I understand your frustration with the battery issue. It could be hardware related with the battery connection on the laptop not reading the battery. It could also be software related. The Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery is basically the driver that communicates between the computer and the battery. There is a chance that it is corrupted causing it not to read the battery. Follow the steps below and let me know how it goes.

Step 1. Go to Device Manager
Step 2. Select Batteries
Step 3. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there
Step 4. Click Uninstall
Step 5. At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver
Step 6. Shutdown the computer

Step 7: Remove the battery for minute and then put it back in

Step 8: Turn the computer back with the power cord as well.

When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver and detect the battery.

Step 9. Go to Device Manager
Step 10. Select Batteries
Step 11. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there
Step 12. Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"

Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller if it is still not reading the battery.

Thank you,

In windows 7 I was able to maximize my battery life with 80% available not charging.

I'd like to change this as it shortens my time when unplugged.

How do I do this?

A:Battery Charging

You mean 20% not charging. This is a "feature" of some laptops, like Sony's and you have to install special drivers to get it to override it. Unfortunately, I have yet to find which driver it is and know if it works in Windows 8 yet. The Sony driver system is screwed up, you have to install them in the right order, and there's no documentation on which ones are for what purpose.. it's just stupid.

A:Battery is Not Charging

Hi, This may be worth trying. First of all, shutdown the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter unplugged, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute. Now, plug in the AC Adapter and start the PC without the battery inserted, start the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand the entry for Batteries, right click on and the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall - do not uninstall anything else here.  When the uninstall is complete, shut the PC down, unplug the AC Adapter, re-insert the battery and then start the PC on just the battery.  Windows will automatically reinstall the driver - leave Windows running for a few minutes. Shutdown the PC again.  Now plug in the AC Adapter ( with the battery still inserted ) and start the PC to see if the battery now charges correctly. Best wishes, DP-K

A:Battery Not Charging

Sometimes Windows says ¨battery no charge¨ but it?s a windows power state error, you could also try to update your BIOS first, also perform a Reset to your unit (remove adapter and battery then press and hold the power button for 30/60 seconds)

I just received my mini 10 yesterday and I thought all was well. HA! I only had 4GB of my 16GB formated but no big deal thanks to your forum I managed to fix that. I used it all last night liking this little machine. Last night I turned it off plugged it in and went to bed only to find this morning that it didn't charge? Whats up with that? Has anyone had this problem? When the mini is on it shows that it is running off AC power and battery charging (1%). However this number never changes. It doesn't charge. I tried simple things like removing the battery and putting it back in but no luck. I think I'm just going to return this one and give up on the mini because I'm afraid of future issues. I am running on the factory installed Ubuntu. If anyone has any suggestions or fixes before I send this back I appreciate it.

A:battery not charging

Those stupid HP batteries are half the cost of the mini and they die easily.

Overheat is the usual killer!

Go to device manager and double click on (batteries)

find the battery and click it

then right click it and uninstall

Shutdown mini

Remove power adapter then battery

reinsert battery then adapter

Turn on mini

wait a few if the battery icon does not show in system tray then

right click computer goto properties

click on (Action)

click (scan for hardware changes)

it should then find the battery

see if its charginng, if not reboot

Good luck

Brooklyn..

BTW dont leave the mini plugged in and sitting ontop of blankets or pillows.

Tried to update my BIOS but there's no update for my windows 10. Tried to reset my unit by holding down the power button foe 30/60 seconds, but that didn't work. Also did a battery check on my old battery and my new battery with HP Support Assisant  and by reatarting and pressing the f2 button. It said that the battery is good. Then I Checked the power cord where it plugs into the computer and the pin inside the plug is in good shape but the battery's still not charging. With the old battery it charge when it got to under 10% then it would upto 10% and stop charging afther that.New battery had about 77% charde on it now it has about 74%. Computer will run with the buttery out but with the power adapter in

A:Battery Not Charging

You can try to Press F2 button at the power up and run a Battery test.If the test passes it may mean that the Battery is OK. For a BIOS update, try to check the same for windows 8.1 and see if there is an update available. The OS would not matter as long as it is a BIOS update as these are made for all the supported OS versions.
