Lock Screen/Sign-in screen problems - screen shows three users

Q: Lock Screen/Sign-in screen problems - screen shows three users

I've been using Windows 10 for just over one year. For some reason the Lock Screen/Sign-in screen shows three users. All three are me in three iterations. I find also that when trying to save some excel and word documents I receive messages saying that i am not allowed to save to this folder or that folder. I am able to save to the desk top and then drag and drop the document into the folder that I need to place it in. I know that this must have something to do with "permissions". Not sure how to fix that. One of the accounts that shows up is the initial account that I created back when was around. Any ideas/advice on these issues? When i updated to Windows 10, pretty certain that i followed all of the instructions, although that has been over 1 year now. Thank you in advance...cheers and beers to all!

How do I get the ending screen to be the same as the lock screen?

I logged into the hidden Administrator account and sure enough, the lock screen was the Seattle Space needle screen. I changed it there thinking that would fix the issue but no such luck. The issue, I am assuming has to do with the administrator account.

I have an ASUS R558U. I installed windows 10 in it, then I decided to intalll it once more so I formatted my laptop and installed windows 10 again, but now this time when I start my laptop it shows the asus screen i.e, boot up screen without the loading sign and then displays the windows icon under which the loading sign appears. I wanted the original thing i.e, the loading sign appears below the first screen of the boot up. Any advise?

Hey All,

I've lurked forever, and have found the solutions on these forums (and the prior sevenforums) exceedingly helpful, but now I'm stuck and can't find a solution.

The scenario:

Years ago I bought a Asus Transformer Pad T100. It was great. I enabled auto-signin and everything has been fine.
When I put the tablet to sleep, then wake it up, the lock screen is displayed, but once I swipe it up it auto-signs in to windows. This is my preferred behavior as it makes the lock screen act like a non-pin lock screen on a phone, and avoids mispresses of the power button causing applications to launch.

Today, I got an Asus Transformer 300 Chi. It has been pretty great so far, except for one issue that is driving me crazy: I can't repeat the above behavior.

Basically, either I don't get a lock screen at all, or I get one requiring a password. To clarify, I've confirmed that the user accounts screens on both tablet have Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer. unchecked. I do not require a password on sign-in of windows, which is great. But when I hit the power button, it just goes immediately to Windows' desktop.

On the T100, it is not set to require a password under screensaver settings, nor the Modern PC Settings' Account sections. Power settings does require a password on wakeup. And this is where things differ.

On the 300 Chi, I cannot have both the Modern PC Settings' account section to not require a password under Password Policy and power settin... Read more

Yesterday I did a windows update and my login screen went from the windows default screen (which I liked) to the windows spotlight screen. (you know the one that changes the photos daily) and the lock screen went from the spotlight screen to black.

I have partially fixed the issue: I now have the login screen with the spotlight feature on and I also I have the lock screen with the spotlight feature. I am also able to make the lock screen with the spotlight feature on with a solid color for the sign in screen but I cannot figure out how to get the sign on screen to the default windows picture. See photo.
How can I make this my login background & my lock screen the windows spotlight.

Thank you!

Hi, everyone...

I'm trying to find a registry hack or something to address the change Microsoft made going from Windows 8.x to Windows 10.

Here is a quick run-down of what Microsoft changed:

My wife and I have 4 children. One of our PCs is used by all of the children. There are 5 Microsoft accounts set up on that PC, one for each of the children plus one that I have set up as the Admin account.

Windows 8.x indicated on the Sign-in Screen which users were already logged/signed in. So, if the Sign-in Screen was displayed, you could see right there if anyone was signed into their account. For example, if 2 of the 5 accounts on our PC were already signed in, then right there on the Sign-in Screen below the picture and name of those 2 users that are already signed in, it says "Signed in" for each of those 2 users. You know right there at the Sign-in Screen if anyone is already signed in that might need to sign out before a restart or shutdown.

Windows 10 removed this information/indication. If you are already signed into an account, then you can look and see which users (if any) are signed in and there is no guesswork needed. However, if you are at the Sign-in Screen and want to restart or shutdown the PC while one or more users are signed in, then you are told users are signed in but have no idea which users are signed in. The only way to know which users are signed in is to sign into one of the accounts and find out.

This is not the individuals Lock Screen
This is the lock screen when you have multiple users created on a single Windows 8 System and they are all logged off

The default is the Spire Background. I want to change this but can not find it's location

I tried renaming and deleting the image from C:\Windows\Web\Screen ,, this did not work
ie; I copied a wallpaper over and gave it the same name as this one,, it is img100.jpg

A registry key pointing to something embedded

I did a search in Registry for img100.jpg but came up empty.

I'm sure this is possible. Right now in my Screen Saver settings I have unchecked the "on resume, display logon screen" checkbox. In my power settings, I have set the laptop to turn off the display after being idle for 10 minutes. However, everytime the display turns off for some reason it still locks the screen. What gives!?

(system: Vista Business x86)

A:How to turn off display when idle, but NOT lock screen (switch users)?

There have been issues with this, and I can't remember what the solution was, but there's an extremely simple workaround (if you don't use a screen saver): set the wait time to a very high number (like 9999 minutes). It will never lock again.

Hello all, this is my first time posting. I receive a BSOD upon startup, once I reach windows login screen. After a couple of seconds, input will lock up. Usually, this is followed after a few moments by a BSOD, though occasionally, input is reallowed, and computer functions normally. This continues until windows tries to install updates. When signing off to reboot, configurations reach 30%, and computer attempts reboot. At this time, before reaching the sign on screen, I get what I can best describe as a bunch of staggered blue and light blue lines across my entire monitor, which requires me to hard boot my computer. To restore functionality, I have to go into safe mode, where I'm informed 'failure configuring windows updates' and my computer automatically reverts the updates. Afterwards, I can boot normally, and I'm back up to the login (which occasionally allows me to proceed.)
I've updated several drivers, uninstalled recently installed programs, and have backed up all files I care to keep. I've tried to do a bit of research, but I'm not getting very far, and this has been going on for several days. My most recent BSOD info is posted below... please help before my computer bites the dust for good!

Hello. I am trying to fix an HP G62-367DX Notebook PC.
Operating sys: Win 7, 64bit, AMD Turion(tm) 530II Dual-Core Processor, 4GB, 2.50GHz. I had this laptop since December of 2010 and on June of 2013 is when I used my notebook PC and was initially of no use. I have been working on my laptop on and off since. I am not afraid to open the sucker up and get this thing up and running.

The problem started out with what most ppl call it, the "blue screen of death". Like most ppl, I did ignore the blue screen and did a restart which brought me to the normal Windows screen and then it would start back up just fine. I found this in Device Manager's (Hidden Files):
Non-Plug and Play Drivers
-! ehdrv
-! epfwwfp
-! Security Processor Loader Driver
I am not sure if it has anything to do with what it was the blue screen situation, but I tried searching on the net on what it all meant and to see if I was able to fix it, but before I was able to do something about it, the blue screen kept popping up and it was getting worse.

The problem progressed to where on Windows startup it would just stop there, blue screen would pop up and of course I had to restart it and do an F8 key press for Safe Mode. I had to work on Safe Mode for a good couple of weeks before I can figure out the problem/s. I believe I had went into the system and found out it had something to do with some kind of error... *sigh* I did write it down, but that was like a month ago and I am unable to locate my ... I did an upgrade from Win 7 , and Screen Saver / Turn off display after 5 mins was working under Win 7 64 bit
As my title suggest Screen Saver / Lock screen Slideshow / Turn off display after 5 mins are not working under Win 10
The Lock screen Slideshow is there when Win 10 starts but only shows ONE image, never moves to another.
THINGS I've done so far to get any of these working ...Screen Saver / Lock screen Slideshow / Turn off display after 5 mins
I’ve turned off all the Wake on lan functions
Tried different folder/ images for the lockscreen Slideshow ,window spotlight and picture
Tried to set new power options , was able to get SLEEP to show up in "Start" as it was not there before, but once click , the display DID turn off, but wouldn’t turn back on with mouse movement keyboard presses, had to do a hard reboot. Win 10 started without issue and the SLEEP mode was no longer aviable via the power "start" menu.
Anyone have a clue how to get all of these working. Really would like my display to turn off after 5 mins , and the Screen saver to work , the Lockscreen I'm not fussed about

A:unable to customize lock screen, start screen, account picture

If you're using the official release of Windows 8 Enterprise trial, you'll need to activate it. PC Settings doesn't have an entry to Activate, so you'll need to go to the Desktop to do so. The little Action Center icon on the lower right hand side (a little flag) should have a red X. Click on it, and it should say you need to activate. Do so, and you'll get those customizing features unlocked.

Kind of screen glitch that appears before windows 8 lock screen appears at start /restart and a notable delay in starting/restarting time than with my 1st win8 install.

I think this appeared after I installed my windows 7 back ( dont ask me why..)( a clean install) and installed my win8 back again.I dont think Ive done them corectly:

I couldnt install win 7 it in C ,neither to format that partition because of this message [Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks] and an error code 0x0000 smth... while attempting to format the C. I could only manage to instal windows 7 back after deleting all of the partiton and now I have a single C one.

When Ive tried to reinstall windows 8 these days I expected to see only a partiton where to put my windows but instead there were other minor ones too ( they dint shown during my win7 install) like they appear now if I open disk management .

So now I have that glitch when starting windows 8. I dont know how to describe it: its a black screen -with that windows 8 doted loading wheel -partially covering my Motherboard logo screen ( that screen at startup with bios setup, boot menu options etc).I say partially becuase I can see parts of my motherboard screen on left and right but they are kinda shredded and disolved into scraps. This appears after the clean Motherboard screen witht those options I mentioned above. On my 1st win 8 inst... Read more

Whenever my laptop wakes up from sleep and shows the lock screen, I click and type in my PIN as normal. But on the lock screen at the top right, there's a Cortana box usually giving an example of what I can do, like 'tap and say remind me to water the plants when I get home'.

The problem is this box stays on the screen after the computer is unlocked, and displays semi-transparently in the top left over all other windows, with the only way to remove it is to double click, have a Cortana window display full screen and then close it.

I'd like to find a way of either fixing this or disabling Cortana from the lock screen altogether as I never use this feature. Any tips would be appreciated.

These aren't very important problems, but I'm just curious why this happen after Anniversary Upgrade.
- When I start my PC or when I shutdown/restart, in the log screen there isn't my profile image. Just the generic blank one.
The image is still present when I click on Start button on desktop and in Control Panel. I also tried to set it again.
- I prefer a "blank" lock screen background as I had before, with no panorama pictures or nothing. How can I remove it?

When I shut down my PC at night I leave my tower powered up but switch off my Monitor and my 5.1 speaker system. When I switch my monitor on again the next day it has previously always shown the Windows account sign in page until the last two days when I get a black screen on powering up my monitor. Yesterday I had the mouse pointer showing and I could move it about but today I didn't even have that. Both days I had to crash reboot my PC using the lower button on the tower and my PC worked normally from then until I switched it off again at bedtime last night, when as I said I got a total black screen this morning.

I've got a problem with my laptop, a 2010 HP G60-635DX. First, a little history. This was my wife's laptop until she dropped it and broke the display screen. We hooked it up to a monitor and she was good to go. Last Christmas I got her a new computer and again she was all set. In the meanwhile I've been using this old Dell laptop from 2006 with WinXP in it. Works, but is slow as all get out. A few months ago I decided to use my wife's old computer for myself. It comes with Windows 7 and works quite well. Last June I made the mistake of trying the Windows 10 upgrade, and what a disaster that turned out to be. So I reverted back to Win7, but I lost all the drivers that came with it, so I was stuck. So recently I bought a new screen for my wife's old computer, and I installed it today. So guess what? The screen works fine, but all I get is a blank white screen Nothing at all! It's as if the computer can't display anything at all. I just don't understand it. The computer fires up, but that's it. No start screen, no nothing. Just a blank white screen.
Anybody have any ideas as to what's wrong, and how I could fix this?

Hi was wondering if others experience this. Trying to figure out the cause and if there is a fix.

When I turn on or restart my computer after the teal windows logo with the spinning wheel the screen will flash off quickly then come back on black and then 10 seconds later show the lock screen.

It's kind of annoying to have this delay happening and wondering if it's normal or something that can be fixed.

A:Black Screen after teal windows before lock screen

That sounds normal to me. The only variation might be "how long" you pause on the black screen (while your boot is being processed). Now, for some, that black screen might flash for only a few seconds but for others, it could last quite some time. My advice is to do nothing and live with it.

I ran every update that comes up and restart, but this doesn't change this issue. I'm hoping there will be a patch or service pack or some update that will fix this. Any ideas why it does this and any way to fix it without reformatting?

I had the same problem at first. Then one day the listing of all my apps disappeared. I did a refresh and lost a lot of programs but the files were still there. Then I noticed that the problem with the apps had fixed itself and they worked. My feeling is that the initial install wasn't complete and the refresh completed the install. Recently, after loading my Epson printer's CD, the apps once again disappeared. Had to do a system restore. Now I am having trouble with my screen just being black and not coming on at all...even after a reboot. Win8 has a lot of problems.

Okay, I think I've figured out a solution.

first to say: I hope I've posted this problem in a proper place, if not so plz forgive me

the last time I changed my OS, I faced a problem, the drive "C:" root folder was write protected (it was not before, I could easily create texts etc). I decided to let it be in that situation, the problem started while trying to install applications, the applications were installed incompletely or partly installed, so I decided to take ownership of the whole drive "C:". I think this occurred because of Sharing rules, anyway I took ownership of the entire drive except some sys files such as: hiberfil.sys etc. Before doing this the whole operating system was working properly but after doing so, my above mentioned problems solved, but after that, my lock screen image has gone "Blue"! and I guessed that ownership causes the problem, so I tried so many solutions, including reinstalling a fresh copy of windows or trying the method mentioned in this link, but nothing changed . first I'll share my current lock screen image to show you I've changed it, after I'll share a shot of my lock screen blue image! plz help me this is so annoying!

I'm having a weird issue.

Every time I Restart my Laptop, the Lock Screen does not show the Welcome Screen and skips directly to the User Account login screen. Actually, it shows a darkish blue screen for a couple of seconds and then jumps to the user account login.

When I use the logout function or the shutdown (and I power it back on) everything works normally.

I have ran SFC / Scannow in windows (8.1 by the way).

Any suggestion ?

The user lock screen is the one that displays when a user locks the PC while still signed in to Windows, and when the user is selected on the sign in screen, times out, and returns to the lock screen. Each user is able to change their lock screen background image to an image of their choice. The default Lock screen image is the one that displays when there are no users currently signed in to Windows or selected on the sign in screen.

I recently purchased the Aspire R. I established a 4 digit pin code to unlock my Aspire. Until recently, when I tapped on the field to input my pin a on screen number keypad would appear in which I could use to type in the pin and unlock my laptop. That keypad has somehow dissapeared. I'm hoping someone might be able to help me change a setting or do something to get the on screen keypad to reapear when I tap on the field of the lock screen. Thank you in advance.

I use Windows Home and find the inability to disable the Lock Screen on login really annoying. I used to use the registry fix on this forum but this no longer works.

In Spotlight Mode, the correct Lock Screen background is shown when I use Windows Key + L but the last selected picture Lock Screen background is shown when I log out. In Picture Mode, the correct LockScreen background is shown when I use Windows Key + L and log out. I can't get the slide show mode to work.
In summary:

In Picture Mode, the Lock Screen background worksIn Spotlight Mode, I see the correct background using Windows Key + L but the last set picture when I log out.I can't get the Slideshow Mode to work - it just shows the last set picture whether I log out or use Windows Key + L.

Does anyone have this problem and have you found a solution?

I just wonder if that registry key that no longer works, is somehow interfering with the now-compulsory lock screen.

How about removing the registry key?

Hi, first post here by a rather happy Lenovo Yoga 13 + Windows 8 user.

As the topic says, is it possible to have the lockscreen turn on automatically after a few minutes?

As it is now I can only get to the lock screen after waking up the computer from the screen saver. I would like to have it configured so that the traditional screen saver is bypassed and it goes straight to the lock screen and stays there forever until I swipe it up.

I think the lockscreen is a very beautiful feature and it's great to see all these small notifications. It would be wonderful to just be able to glance at my computer and seeing these notifications without actually having to touch it.

I feel it's kind of useless to only see the lock screen while you're actually logging in, because then you'll see your notifications anyway on your start screen.

A:Can I use the lock screen as a screen saver?

The easiest way is to right click your account icon on top right of Start Screen and Lock it.

Don't know of a way to auto lock.

I would like to use the screen saver instead.

Hey guy's I am running Windows XP and I installed a Windows 7 transformation pack. I didn't like it so I uninstalled it and erased every trace of it on my hard drive and in my registry. My computer is running perfect and is back to the origional Windows XP the only problem is my "windows is starting screen" and my "users" screen still says Windows 7. Is there any way to put these startup screens back to the origional XP screens? I researched it on google and it seemed pretty simple it said to locate the logos.sys or logow.sys file and replace it but I cant find any file that is called that. I have selected the folder options to "show hidden files" and "show protected windows files" but I still cant find it. If there is some way to put it back to the factory settings it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Rob

A:Start up screen and users screen?

Do you mean these two screens:Because those are two unrelated (as far as skinning and modding) screens.I'm unfamiliar with the Windows 7 Transformation Pack but I'd bet dimes to donuts that they used LogonStudio for the logon screen and Bootskin for the boot-up screen. As I recall, both of these programs have a "revert to default" option which you might be able to use to, well, revert to the defaults.

how to disable Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages?

I have desktop pc with two keyboards usb and bluetooth. Also TOSHIBA Bluetooth Stack software, but in device manager: keyboard > hid keyboard device both using microsoft drivers. And I dont have any software installed for keyboards. Also bluetooth has separate system tray indications (it is also disabled) so its not that. I made some googling and found other fix it with Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\General KeyIndication set to 0, but I dont have it in registry. Acualy I dont have anywhere in registry KeyIndication. So any ideas how to disable it? Thanks

A:Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages

You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

You can attempt to repair this file by putting the winxp cd in etc...

The cursor can be seen moving around the screen but has no effect in any area. The Windows Key doesn't ppear, nor can I tab into another programme.
If I try and start task manager to see which program is causing this, it will not appear over the frozen image.
Is there a way of telling from an event log what program is failing?

This is the strangest thing I've ever seen from a PC. I'm at the computer and the print screen key prints the previous screen rather than printing the current screen.

Another peculiarity on this PC is the behavior I get from a paid version of PDF-995. This is software that is used to convert non-PDF files into PDFs. It is behaving very strangely. Instead of capturing the current document, it appears to actually create a PDF that is a print-capture of the previous screen - the desktop screen that was up before you were looking at the document you want to convert to pdf format.

Has anyone ever seen this before?

It's running Windows XP Pro. The hardware is a 2.5GHz CPU with 256 MR of RAM. I haven't noticed any other odd behavior on the PC yet. No recent downloads that I know of.

Screensaver is enabled and so is 'Display welcome screen when coming back from screensaver'.

This works most of the time, however on a regular basis the screensaver will resume to the following screen and just stay there forever.

The only thing to do is to press the power button, at which point a popup alerts that a user is logged in, do you still want to shut down.

I tried starting in safe mode, didnt work, left it for an hour and then safe mode asked if i should continue trying to run sptd.sys which i did (think its a daemon tools driver, of which i've uninstalled daemon tools ages ago and have uninstalled with the daemontools tool thats available after the rootkit scan), i did a sophos rootkit scan and it came up as an unknown hidden file.

My computer is doing some things it never has like deleting most files from a folder when i want it to but not others and then saying it cant delete the folder as it isnt full. It also told me earlier that a drive had been externally altered. Any ideas.

I'm paranoid about rootkits and viruses but this seems to be an xp problem.

Also, it sounds like the pc's running flat out when it isnt on occasions, I used process explorer to check that!

Ok I've been suffering this issue with Windows 10 for as long as I can remember, and it's stopping me using it as the primary OS.

In short I have two, intermittent issues which nothing I do seems to resolve.

1: After waking up from sleep and typing my username password and hitting return, the screen goes black. Cursor moves, Windows + P operates (Screen options do appear from the right) but doesn't actually make any difference, and I'm stuck having to hard reset because ctrl alt del doesn't work either. This isn't an every time issue, hence googling seems to fail miserably because all the examples are people getting it every time. This, for me, is a 3 in 10 regularity.

2: Logging a user off occasionally sees the lock screen ... locking up. Ironically. Mouse moves, and power button DOES work but that's all that works.

These issues are plaguing me and I just cannot fix them - endless googling has left me empty handed, and I've tried disabling SLI. No help. I've tried disabling apps. No help. Nothing I do makes any difference and event viewer doesn't seem to reveal anything useful either.

Anyone got any idea how I can resolve this?

System is:

2TB Seagate HDD
2x980Ti SLI
32 GB RAM @ 1800 Corsair
Asus Z97-A
Windows 10 & Windows 7 dual boot 64.

So my friends Toshiba laptop apparently has the following problem:

When he boots it up, it gets to the "Users" screen. Upon selecting said user and loading their password it goes to a red screen (he said the background has red behind it so maybe that has something to do with it) and nothing can be done. It boots up in safe mode and works fine that way. He also said he has troubles turning off the system from the Start -> Turn off System button and it just logs off and will never shut down. He has to manually hold in the power button for Xx seconds to shut it off. I had him make a .vbs script file using notepad and executing the "Shutdown" command, and that worked fine, so I'm not sure.

We already tried the following:

System Restore (Worked, but problem was unchanged)
Create a New User and Try to log onto that user (Same thing occurred)
Starting up in safe mode (Works Fine)

Preferably try to avoid anything with the start-up discs, as they do not have any. If you ABSOLUTELY NEED THEM, then tell me that. If there are other things we can try, inform me as well. Really, I would try just about anything. I do not think they want any data erased though, so refrain from any such tasks. If impossible to avoid, again, just tell me.
Thank you all very much.

A:Somebody Please Assist [Red Screen upon sign-in]

I'm thinking it's either a malware infection or a corrupt third-party graphics driver.
I'm not qualified to help with malware removal so I won't even try, but if it is a bad driver, boot into safe mode and re-install the driver which can be downloaded from Toshiba's support website:

Incidentally, if your friend is so concerned about the possibility of losing his files, he should keep backups of them on an external hard drive or optical discs as a precaution. I cannot understand computer owners who run into problems then say "I absolutley cannot afford to lose my data!". What about when the hard drive fails one day (and it will)??

These days, backing up even large amounts of data is not rocket science, nor does it cost a fortune.

I've been lurking this forum for a bit now, and I've decided to post a thread of my own. I've been having this issue for a while now, and cannot bear it any longer. My most sincere apologies if this is in the wrong board/forum/section. I would really appreciate any replies anyone has. I am desperate, I need this fixed and everything I've tried has been futile.

The Problem?
After I select "Windows Boot Manager" from the GRUB 2 boot menu, I see the Windows logo and that little loading image like normal, but then when I get to the screen that should be the sign-in page with my picture password or text password box, all I see is black and my cursor. I describe this a bit more further in the thread.
A Little Backstory:
? I have patched my system with a theme patcher. Perhaps it should be noted that I had two installed, and removed one. I'm really not sure if this is relevant at all, but I think it may be causing conflicts.
? I have an 8.1 Pro key (will PM to any staff or respected members for proof), but at the time of installation, I could not find it, so I had patched my system with KMS.
? I dual-boot Ubuntu 13.10 using GRUB 2, although I'm almost sure this isn't the culprit as these problems started much later.
Other Things to be Noted:
I am able to access a few things while I am in this black screen, these include:
? Win + P to access the projector options, although I ONLY see a blue (the personal color I've chosen for modern bits) bar with the appropr... Read more

Hey guys,

Ok so I redid the post as it all came out quite unclear and blurry.

Screen turns either black, grey or whatever color is closest to the program I was running in stripes as the image in my own reply shows.

Occationally my screen flickers but runs for a bit longer but it seems to be a sign of the system crashing.

The screen flickers occationally during bootup and sometimes causes my computer to run with the screen inactive. When the system crashes I often get a message showing the OC had failed when I am running default settings and sometimes I get an error loading OS which seems peculiar as I've had no issues with my harddrives on earlier occations untill now when I replaced my video card and RAM memory.

New card: ASUS adeon EAH5870 v2
Mainboard: ASUS P5P43TD(775-socket Intel Dualcore CPU running 3.16GHz)
New RAM: Corsair 16GB DDR3 1333MHz
OS: Newly installed Windows 7 64-bit

Both BSOD error logs are in a zipped folder in the first post.

A:Grey Screen, striped screen or pixelated screen

Bump with content ok so I managed to boot my system in safe mode and I'm going to add the .dmp file and the .xml file from the error log which for once confirmed a bluescreen(See picture for the "blue" screen)
Also the system nearly every time after crashing claims I have OC'd the system when I was running default settings except for setting the HDD with my OS first.

I've added both logs in the zipped folder attached, couldnt upload them as they were due to file format.

However, when I boot into safe mode and replace Intel HD graphics driver with Standard VGA adapter, everything works fine, except for crappy graphics ofcourse. I tried installing various old/new/latest versions of driver software, upgrade/downgrade BIOS, install monitor.inf file from lenovo website for this laptop model, everything.
Odd thing: running Dxdiag shows my current display to be 1200x800 (32bit)(1hz).
So, I tried to change the display refresh rate in advanced settings> Screen refresh rate, no luck, no other option except ' Use hardware defaults'. So, I went ahead an modified registry values as given here:
How to Modify the Video Refresh Frequency in the Registry

Again, no use. After I reboot and go back and check, its set to 1 by default.

Tried 4 clean installs, installing on a completely new HDD, Windows 7 Pro, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8 , everything..

Is it a screen problem? Or some hardware ID kind of thing?
What should I do ?
Please help!

A:Black Screen/Blank screen after screen replacement

Not all laptop screens are the same. It is important to get a "replacement" screen, not a "compatible" one.

On the back of the laptop screen is a product sticker (you can only read this before you install the screen). On that sticker is the manufacturer and model #. You can use that number to find exact replacements.

How did you come to choose the LG screen?

Hello TSF. This is my first post in this or any other tech forum. So let start off by thanking you in advance for your assistance.
Now on to the problem at hand. Everytime this system boots up ( cold start up or reboot) the mouse is frozen at the sign on screen. Reboot from there and it works fine. Darnedest thing I've ever seen. It basically works every other time you bootup. I didn't believe when I got the call about it (it's a system I built for a friend) but I rebooted several different ways and got same results. Rebooted via windows, powered it down and back up, used the reset and the mouse only worked every other time. Device manager says everything is working properly.
I just thought I'd seek some advice before resorting to doing a repair install.

A:Cursor Frozen at sign in screen

hmmmm...try performing a check disk repair on your computer and see if that helps at all. if you have your windows xp cd, bootup with it. then on the main menu choose repair.

then the computer will show a black prompt screen and first its gonna ask you to enter the language you want so you can understand. then choose the computer will show something like 1 C:>windows......

type in 1 and then the computer will ask you for an admin pass but simply hit enter if you dont have one to skip the process. then on C: type in "chkdsk /r" without the "".

this process should take some time and after it is finished, restart the computer and try booting into windows again and see if the freezing problem still happens.

Since I read Brink's tuto (change sign in background color), I want to believe it's possible to change sign in background with custom picture, like this tutorial (option 3).

I tested this in Windows 8, carefully following warnings (image resolutions), but no effect

Perhaps registry keys or oem picture path given for Windows 7 are wrong in Windows 8 ?
I want to do this :

A:sign in screen with custom background possible ?

Maybe this site near bottom of page--

Windows 8 - Changing Your Lock and Login Screens

You will see ---

Change the Login/Logout Screen for All Accounts
From the Start Screen, type run and press Enter.Type gpedit.msc in the open text box and click OK.Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Logon.Enable the policy "Always use custom login background."

My problem is pretty much summed up in my title. :) I have a Dell Latitude laptop, and it runs fine until the sign-in window, and then the keyboard (99% of the time) and the mouse lock up, and it seems all that works is shutting down the computer. Microsoft has an article concerning a problem that sounds similar to this, [URL=";en-us;294427"] but I tried running Windows using the F8 key, and I received no error message. I could really use some help!! If you have the answer, please post! Thanks!

I have fallen heir to a ASUS laptop. WE added my wife as another user. Been working ok for a few weeks. She just turned computer on and the bright blue screen came on but the arrow she normally would move with the touchpad won't budge; can't sign in. Any suggestions? (This is NOT the computer I registered with.)

A:Frozen arrow on sign-in screen - can't log on

Some laptops have key combinations that can be pressed to turn off the mouse/touch pad. You might want to try an external (USB) mouse. But, you should be able to sign in using the keyboard:

If need be, press TAB until the user of interest is highlighted. If there is a password, press TAB as needed to get to that field. After typing in the password, press Enter. Maybe you can troubleshoot the mouse/touch pad from there.

If all of that fails, maybe boot to the Safe Mode.

Windows 7 Home Premium: My Boot usually takes about 30 -40 seconds; every once in a while after windows screen boot delays 60 -75 seconds before sign in (this has happened several times and eventually (days or weeks)seems to correct). I have checked drivers, run check disc, memory diagnostics, system restore, driver backup restore, registry errors, System File Checker, etc everything checks out. I have run a boot trace but don't know how to read the results. HELP!EDIT: Moved from Intros to Windows 7~~

A:boot freeze before sign in screen

hi, maybe its not you computer ,but your stop watch .lol

just kidding ,but i do fine it kind of silly to worry about 30 or 40 seconds longer boot time ,[be careful you don't screwup a good working computer trying to fix it ],but maybe you virus scanner or another program that starts at bootup is doing a quick check for updates

My password did not work on the windows startup screen.

I ended up boot in safe mode, and doing a memory test, and now it works fine.

But I know a memory test would not of fixed it? Am I going to be getting this error again? Is this a sign of something about to break down on me? or by going in safemode, did I get a better driver load?

I did try rebooting it several times before doing the safemode boot, and nothing worked. But all is fine now... for now. should I be concerned? or did I just get lucky? lol.

It was a windows 7 on a Sony Laptop. (caps was off, password was correct)

A:Did not let me sign in to the windows startup screen

Hello jim54729 and welcome to Seven Forums,

I'm not sure why you had this issue and how it sorted itself out...
What you might want to do is create a password reset disk.
If something does go wrong again, it might come in handy!

hope this helps,

My computer just updated (I'm assuming) to the anniversary edition, and I occasionally have sign-in problems. I normally have my computer set to sign in automatically, but when I turned on the PC this morning, it didn't. It went to the sign-in screen, but there was no way to sign into any profiles (there are two on my computer, one for me and one for my wife). The only options available were to shut down and restart (there was one more, but I have a Japanese PC, and I'm not sure what that option was). I restarted and the computer signed in normally.

Then later on, my wife tried to switch to her profile, and it went right back to that login screen with no options to go to either her profile or my profile. So again, I had to restart, and now I can get into both.

Has anyone else had this problem?

A:Login screen with no profiles to sign into

I have not had the problem of not having a sign in option. I have had the problem of signing in to a different profile. If you go to settings > Accounts and make sure both accounts are set right. Then, do not restart, instead right click the start flag, select the new option you will now have which is 'sign out' it will sign you out and bring you back to the sign in screen. You should be able to see both accounts listed in the lower left of the sign in screen. Select whichever one you want and put in the password.

Those are some of the issues with no password like I have. I believe if you give yourself a password, most of those problems wouldn't happen. You can set a pin number instead of a password also. a 4 digit pin number is not so bad. If you would like to try that, this will tell you how PIN - Add to your Account in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums.

Hi guys, currently trying to resolve an issue with my girlfriend's PC! Nightmare!

Here's the context:

She's recently upgraded to a GTX 970 and an SSD with Windows 10 (using the free upgrade from a fresh 8.1 install) and on the first boot after the upgrade everything seemed to be working fine. She booted the next day to find that about 20-30 seconds after logging in the monitor would just blank and the only way of progressing would be to restart. Repeat ad infinitum!

She has an 8.1 installation on a separate mechanical drive which works fine (although it did actually suffer from the same issue before I clean installed the nVidia drivers, which seemed to resolve the issue).

I've tried to clean install drivers on the 10 installation, installed chipset drivers, monitor drivers (!?), all to no avail. It just crashes. This is all from safe mode, which works fine as expected. This is what made me think it was a driver issue.

Any ideas? The chipset thing was as far as I think I can take it without asking you guys for help!

Hi's me again. You have been so helpful to me in the past, but unfortunately I need your help again.
Here's what's going on:
The AOL sign-on screen keeps popping up on my desktop.
Sometimeswhen trying to sign on it takes forever and then the message "AOL will not install files required for you to connect to the service...etc". Then I click okay and have to restart my computer.
When I'm finally on line I get porn site pop-ups and soon as I close it, it pops right back up.
I also received a message stating "main.idx file damaged".
I always run CW Shredder, Spybot & Ad-aware 6.0 but when I scan in HijackThis I can't tell what to delete besides the "smutserverver". Please help. Here is my log:
