Look for audio drivers on the motherboard CD delivered to when after purchasing your system. If you can't find it or don't have mobo CD around, navigate to manufacturer website and download driver for audio device from there.

Good luck!!

Hi there,

I posted a thread in 'Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help' back in April about problems I was having with my laptop (http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...d-etc-etc.html). To summarise, the main problems I'm having are...

- Windows Firewall is disabled and when I double click on 'Windows Firewall' in the Control Panel a message comes up saying "Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service?". Then I can enable Firewall, but on rebooting it reverts back to being automatically disabled.
- The taskbar is often grey and old-style rather than blue.
- When I try and play music in Media Player it says 'Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly'. I reinstalled the driver from Acer's website and now I here the usual beeps, clicks and the Windows start up sound but still can't play audio. Similar problems with Itunes, and audio from Youtube.
- I can't write CDs.
- When I double click on System in Control Panel instead of the System page coming up, a box comes up saying 'Data Execution Prevention - To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program. Name: Run a DLL as an App. Publisher: Microsoft Corporation.'

I updated the windows xp home edition that came with my laptop with current security updates and SP2 from microsoft. Now it tells me the software for my Yamaha AC-XG "audio device has been locked from starting because it is known to have problems with windows. Contact the hardware vendor for a new driver".?? Anyone know what this means and how to fix? I no longer have sound from the laptop.
Thank you.

A:audio device disabled by windows???

Good Evening jayrose96, this kind of problem after installing SP-2 is quite common, especially with AMD processor type machines.
As a matter of interest what kind of processor does you machine have?
It seems that the driver integrity signing has been altered in the updated stuff, it is a terrible shame that fixing a pathetic system causes more problems!

Here's my problem:

Error message: "No Audio Output Device is installed"

Windows 7 was working fine but then after one of its automatic updates the sound stopped working on the system.(i.e. Red "X" on speaker icon)

I have tried enabling the audio in normal, mode safe mode. The driver is up to date and I have even tried re-installing it.

System restore provided a temporary fix as after one normal use of the PC windows will re-disable the audio. (and yes I disabled auto updates....windows still manages to disable the audio)

I had the PC sent out under Manufactures Warranty to try to resolve the issue, but as the warranty only covers physical damage to the system all the service center was able to do was confirm that it was a software problem (they checked the hardware and found it to be working properly).

So I have determined that the audio is solely software related and that it must be disabled deep in the system as the usual enable/disable buttons have no effect.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings jdavies11 and Welcome to the Forums,

Let's first try to uninstall some problems. All of these are out dated AND exploited:
Adobe Reader 7.0 You can download the latest version Here

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
Java(TM) 6 Update 3

...please click start-->Control Panel-->Add/Remove Programs. Scroll down the list to locate the program names and click Remove for each. Reboot at any time you are prompted, otherwise reboot when finished uninstalling all of them.

With the latest version of Java, a new zero day exploit has already been discovered and is actively being used by hackers. I would not recommend at this time reinstalling even the newest version of jave.

If you must use IE for surfing at all, please use it at this time in the No addons mode (at least till Sun Micro issues their next update scheduled for July. To do that, click start-->All Programs-->Accessories-->System Tools-->Internet Explorer (No Add-ons). In Firefox, follow These Instructions to disable java. Hello!

I've searched through these forums and have located the proper settings to disable to stop audio ducking from occurring when loading Teamspeak, Ventrilo or Mumble. The Windows 7 menu says "Do Nothing" like in the following screenshot/post - System Sounds Auto Leveling - Disable . I've also gone into Mumble and disabled attenuation and have gone into Ventrilo and done the same. I still get the audio volume lower when any voicecomm software is active.

Any ideas? I've checked the Realtek control panel and don't see anything there that could be doing it, either. I've been in the guild wars 2 settings and don't see anything there, either. Starting to drive me a little nuts that it keeps happening even though I've told it to not.

Thank you for your help!

A:Audio Ducking in Windows 7 - disabled but still occuring

Hallelujah!

I stumbled across the solution. Posting it to a number of places as I've seen others on other boards trying to hunt this down.

I think it has to do with Realtek audio driver behavior. This worked and stopped my system from audio ducking (even when "DO NOTHING" was selected in the communications tab):

Right click on your volume control, then pick your playback devices tab. Right click on your speakers, then choose "Enhancements". In the scroll bar area, check "Loudness Equalization". My system stopped audio ducking.

Hello friends,I am encountering the following problems with my PC (it is a 5 year old Windows XP PC).1) The task manager is disabled (disabled by administrator is the message I am getting). I searched the net and got the following script for enabling it "REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f". It works temporarily but I have to do it again everytime I want to open taskmanager.2) I am not able to install any antivirus programs, but I am able to install other programs. I tried Kaspersky, Avast and AVG.3) My browser suddenly opens some random sites (I am using Mozilla Firefox 3.5.3).Because of these problems, I reinstalled windows XP after formatting the drive in which I had installed windows earlier (I had installed in D:\). Even then the same problems are still there. I have seen other people also have encountered such problems and the solutions provided in this forum seem to work. Please help me with this.Regards,Raghavan K. V.

A:Windows XP - antivirus not installing/task manager disabled

Hi .

If you did a clean install and the same problems occurred immediately afterward...I would begin to suspect a hardware problem of some type.

Even though disabling of Task Manager and security aspects of the system...seem to be classic malware symptoms (IMO)...that is negated by the fact that problem occurs again after format/clean install.

What is the mechanism you used to reinstall? Recovery/restore CDs...MS XP CD?

System manufacturer and model?

What is the exact message you receive when you attempt to install an AV program?

Have you checked Event Viewer for errors which might possibly shed some light?

I have tried to update it through Windows update, but there is no update for the audio driver,
it always says 'Your Audio Driver is Up to Date'.

I have manually tried to download and install the Audio Realtek HD sound Driver,
Still does not work.

Let's make sure that your playback devices are enabled.

Right-click the speaker icon on your taskbar > Select 'Playback Devices'
In the empty space, Right-click and select both 'Show Disconnected/Disabled Devices'
Do you see icons for your speakers and headphones now? You may need to enable both of these.

You can also try the troubleshooter to discover any connection issues that may exist, instructions are below:

Click 'Start' > Select 'Control Panel'
Type troubleshooting in the top-right search field > Select 'Troubleshooting'
Click 'Hardware and Sound' > Select 'Playing Audio'

Hi,

I am really hoping if someone could help me with this issue that I am facing ever since I installed Windows 7 Ultimate (32 Bit).
I was using Windows XP Home edition prior to this.
After the installation of Windows 7, I saw in the Device Manager under the section "Sound" : Multimedia Audio Controller. This also had a yellow exclamation mark.

On my desktop, on the bottom right hand corner, if I click on the speaker icon (It has a red cross on it), it says "No audio devices are installed".

I have integrated sound card.

Can someone please tell me how to check what sound drivers I need and from where to install it?

I would really appreciate the help.

Background: A little while ago, the audio on my Windows XP Pro SP2 system
stopped working. I was using the on-board audio card and never had a problem
before. Then, the audio device just wasn't recognized by windows anymore.
When I went to the "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" window from the
Control Panel, it would tell me that no audio device was detected. Looking
in the Device Manager, however, under the "Sound, Video and Game Controllers"
section, all drivers were installed properly, with no IRQ conflicts, and no
yellow exclamation points on any of the sound devices or codecs. I also
verified that my speakers were working on another system, obviously, and
ensured that the audio card was enabled in my motherboard's BIOS. I
downloaded the latest drivers for my motherboard (and on-board audio card),
uninstalled and successfully re-installed those drivers multiple times.
Still no sound! I even went out and bought a new PCI audio card, installed
it, downloaded and installed the latest drivers for it. STILL no luck. This
is when I really began to scratch my head.

Next, I tried a to do a non-destructive "Repair" of Windows using that
option from the Windows XP setup CD. I got errors doing that , and I gave up
after several attempts. Finally, on a cloned backup hard drive, I
re-installed Windows completely. Lo and behold, the audio worked fine!

This leads me to believe that some part of the Windows XP audio "su... Read more

Hi,

I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on Toshiba Portege M500. However there is no audio came out although in the device manager it worked properly.

I have installed realtek audio driver but still no audio.

Could you please advise how to fix this issue? Thank you.

A:No audio after installing Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on Laptop

If you installed RealTek, it did not take. The generic basic function Windows installed High Definition Audio Device is all that is showing for sound. Are you sure this PC has RealTek?

Looking at the Device Manager listing, this PC has other unidentified device problems. If there are motherboard chipset drivers for this model, install them as a first step.

More on the specs of this PC is needed. I looked at the Toshiba site but there are many different Portage M500 models.

This never happened before when I installed this driver, but it happened now after I installed and used Driver Genius Professional.

A:windows not starting right after installing new audio driver

Try these:

1. During startup, press F8 repeatedly (could be a different F-key, usually F8). If done right, you should come to a black screen with multiple selections, such as starting in safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, networking, etc. Select the "Start with last known good configuration" option and press enter. See if that helps.

2. In the event the above does not work, then do the same thing again and start in safe mode. If it allows you to do so, go into the device manager (right-click on "My Computer", properties, click the Device Manger button), select the device you installed the driver for, and roll-back the driver.

3. In the event neither of the above worked, do the same thing again, and start in safe mode. This time, try system restore. Try restoring to a point BEFORE you installed the driver.

I'm on the verge of re-installing Windows. Spent the last 4 hours searching on here and other forums for a fix, but can't seem to find any.

It started earlier today, I'd just installed Call of Duty: World at War off Steam, tried to launch it and it kept crashing. Tried a few things, but nothing worked and read it might be a sound driver issue. Tried updating my ASUS Xonar DX drivers to the latest version, but once the PC had restarted I had no sound and a the speaker on the taskbar said there's no output device installed.

Uninstalled these drivers and tried installing the ones I was using and same problem. I opened up playback devices and the default speakers were my monitor as I connect via HDMI from my graphic card to my main monitor. The "set default" option was greyed out and I couldn't change the default speakers unless I disabled the HDMI audio, but still I had no sound.

Tried uninstalling the graphic drivers and re-installing the drivers first, but still nothing. Even when the only audio device was the sound card, there was no sound.

If I troubleshoot, it says the audio device is disabled, even though it isn't. I've checked all the audio services and they're all running. I even tried enabling my onboard audio again, but I still get the same problem of the audio device apparently being disabled.

I ran an sfc /scannow, and that fixed a few things, but still no audio.

Only thing I can think of doing now is just re-installing Windows.

A:Audio device is disabled - no audio at all.

Well I just tried re-installing the onboard audio drivers after the sfc scan, and restarted and the onboard audio works. I've had enough of it for one day, so I'll try my soundcard again tomorrow.

Guys, I have problem with Realtek HD audio when sound plays. The sound skippies on some areas.

Please reply.

A:Sound Skippies on Windows 7 after installing Realtek HD audio

Sound is always on a shared IRQ (Interrupt) with a higher priority device. Depending on what the higher priority device is it could be interrupting the sound.

Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the RealTek entry and then LEFT click "Uninstall" DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. Sometimes this puts sound on a different shared IRQ and fixes the problem.

Hello to everyone. I have been using Windows Defender as my antivirus software for some time but i recently decided to switch into a better one so i installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2017. Even though the installation was successful and Kaspersky works fine with no issues, i have a strange problem. It seems that Windows Defender was not disabled "correctly". I dont know how else to describe it. I was still having its icon in the taskbar, with a red indication saying "in danger" (or at least a similar one.i dont have an english version of windows so i m just translating what it was indicating). In order to get rid of it, i had to open the task manager and manually disable the windows defender notification from processes and startup tab. It doesnt seem to be running though because when i checked in Services, it was not activated and also in Windows Defender section in settings it says its disabled. Even though it is not running, Windows Update still detects virus definitions for Windows Defender and unsucessfully tries to install them every time it checks for updates. Has anyone faced this strange issue? How do i stop it?

Just like the title says, I don't want the realtek audio drivers as it completely messes with my audio and also doesn't correctly switch when i plug in headphones for example.
It also doesn't allow for the 'speaker fill' enhancement to be used when playing stereo content through surround sound.

Windows itself does a far better job as opposed to realtek.

Every time i uninstall realtek it automatically gets reinstalled.

Sorry Microsoft, you don't know best.

Hi, I am getting a problem when I give the power on to my PC. With a beep sound it shows that
CMOS/GPNV Checksum bad
COMS Date/Time not set
Press <F4> to run set up

then if I press F4 then I see in BIOS that audio is disabled. After enabling it and then saving it(from BIOS) seems all right. But again after shut down and next time opening the computer the problem arises.
Plz help me.

Note: My machine config is: processor P4 1.7Ghz, 845GLAD Mobo, 384 MB RAM

A:Audio getting disabled

Sound like a typical case of BIOS battery depleted.

On your mainboard you'll find a watch style battery known as a C2030 battery attached. Replace this and once you've restored all your settings (i.e switched the audio on) the problem shouldn't come back.

I tried safe mode and when you try to get into the admin account it says it has been disabled and if I try the account that had the name on it it just acts like it is going to try to boot but just goes as far as giving you a choice for the F2 OR F12, I tried the guest account same thing, am I going to have to put the system back on again or is there a way to get bvack in? I tried system restore it says there is no restore point, tried the last know good configuration and it didn't work. tried the fix startup problems and it went through a few things when I clicked finish it still didn;'t start, Can someone help me with this? If I have to do a clean install there is a recovery disk with it and a driver disk do you do it the same as you would windwos xp? I went into the user account and disabled the UAC and clicked ok and it said it had to restart so I said ok and thats when all this happened.

Yes, a restore disk with restore your PC back to its clean state as if you got it new. Not sure why its preventing you from logging in, some sort of configuration error. Pleasse note, if you use the restore disk, you lose any data on the HD.

If data is important, try using a Live Linux CD and boot from that, then you can access the HD and copy files of it before using the restore CD.

I have recently upgraded to Office 2010.
Then trying to fix a problem that I had with Power Point I downloaded SpeedMax Pc. I already had been using Uniblues' PowerSuite to help with registery and speed issues.

Through SpeedMax I downloaded a new audiodriver. Subsequetly I cannot play music. My computer shows that it is muted, and when I click on the icon it tells me that my audio device is disabled.

In my desparation to fix this, I have also downloaded (and paid for) DriverBoost which simply leads me to something else that I can download and pay for.

Please help me...

A:audio device is disabled

You've probably downloaded/installed the wrong sound driver, as you'll no doubt see if you check your Device Manager.

Never use third-party software to find drivers for a brand-name OEM computer because the software will usually get you the wrong driver.

You should download drivers only from your PC or laptop manufacturer's website because their drivers are custom-made and cannot be obtained anywhere else.

A:Audio Device is disabled! Help?

Go to the Device Manager. Right click on the entry for the IDT Audio and then Left click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the Audio. This fixes most Windows/Audio corruptions and may fix your problem.

I did and nothing shows up still?

go in your device manager. Look for anything disabled. If you did manage to disable the sound card itself it would remove it from other locations to click on.

Around 15:30 GMT I noticed that the audio and network stopped working. I restarted my computer hoping it would work again but they both appear to be disabled after reboot.

When I click the network icon on the bottom right I can click Troubleshoot. When it finishes running diagnostics, it gives me the option to Try repairs as an administrator. When I click this option the network starts working again although Windows Network Diagnostics say that the issues have not been fixed.
I don't know if this would have any relation but this pops up every time I boot up the system since this issue started.
When I click the Audio icon, it opens a window detecting problems.
It claims that the found problem was: Hardware changes might not have been detected.
When I open Services, I attempted to start the Windows Audio service and got 'Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly'. Strangely it stopped the Windows Event Log service when I attempted this.

I tried a System Restore but it failed and got the Error 0x80070005.

When I boot up in Safe Mode with networking, the network is fine and I have no issues. Audio still has issues which I can't resolve because I can't start the Windows Audio Endpoint Builder.

I have the assumption that a system file is missing but I'm not sure as to how that could happen.

Hi,

I have an issue with my audio devices. The audio device reports to Windows that it is disabled and I have no way of enabling it. The device itself is visible and appears to be enabled and working (see screenshots) but it is not. I have tried both front and back jack plugs.

I recon it happened quite a while ago when I installed my usb headset (I only noticed now as the speakers stopped working). UPDATE: I have reinstalled the USB headphones I have and they are working, but no other output is.

I have integrated via hd audio on my mobo. I have tried reisntalling the drivers, removing via drivers and using the generic windows drivers. The audio device is enabled in the BIOS.

Thanks in advance.

Good morning.

Events:

I just started having some problems on my PC. I'm using Windows 10, x64, Professional edition. Non-secure boot.

I got a notification from Windows to the effect of "Warning you are not running any security software".

I immediately tried to open Windows Defender but what I got instead was all sliders disabled. On opening my Updates tab I saw the message "Some settings are managed by your organization".

On trying to open Windows Security Center I didn't get anything. Checking services showed me it had been set to disabled.

Steps taken so far:

I tried setting it back to Automatic delayed start and restarting the service but immediately it was disabled again.

At this point I was running a malwarebytes scan. Malwarebytes found a "Chromebrowser.exe" PUP which I removed.

On a rescan it has so far yet to detect anything.

Checking Group Policy shows all entries are set to default "Not Configured" except one for automatic removal which I disabled myself when I first installed Windows 10.

Changing group policy settings for Allow Telemetry under Data collection and Telemetry (under Computer Configuration, Admin templates, Windows components) to full, then disabling again resulted in the "Some settings are managed by organizatio" notice going away, the previously disabled "Get Started" button for Insider Program became enabled again.

I was having problems reconnecting a bluetooth speaker for my Acer desktop with windows 8.1 OS so tried disabling the default RealTek HD Audio. Now it doesn't show up as a speaker--only my bluetooth speaker that it says is disconnected show. When I look at my device manager it is there, and says that it is working. But I don't see how to re-enable it.

In my device manager under Sound, Video and game controllers there is
--Bluetooth Audio Device (with caution sign)
--ES151A Stereo--bluetooth speaker I was having problems reconnecting in the first place
--Intel(R) Display Audio
--RealTek High Definition Audio (the speaker that I disabled and now cannot re-enable)

When I go to Manage Audio Devices under Sound the only thing showing is the ES-151A stereo which it says is disconnected. I did not expect disabling the RealTek Audio to remove it from the list and thought that it could be re-enabled the same way that I disabled it.

Suggestions?

A:Cannot re-enable disabled RealTek HD Audio

Uninstall the RealTek in the Device Manager. DO NOT uninstall the RealTek drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the RealTek sound. This fixes most Windows/Sound corruptions.

Hello, I'm new here and I have a problem I hope you all can help me with. OK, my audio was working fine until I decided to update the IDT High Definition audio driver. Bad mistake... Once I supposedly updated the audio driver, now my audio is not working and it has a red X on the speaker icon. Well, I've tried a lot of different options like: Uninstalling/Installing the drivers again, Disabling/Enabling in Device Manager, under Services I already checked to see if Windows Audio, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder and Power were on Automatic and Started, and yes they are. I've definitely ran out of ideas of how to get my audio back. Last case scenario is to do a complete system restore and make my computer go back to its original settings. I'll include pictures.

A:Audio Device is disabled/not installed

What you should have done, after the driver update and it didn't work, was to go to the Device Manager and do a "Rollback" to the previous driver.

A System Restore using an available restore point that is BEFORE the driver update may fix it too,.

Everything was working fine until my husband clicked "mute" on the "mixer" of the audio icon on the task bar. A little while later, when he was going to unmute it to listen to something, he saw a red cross on the audio icon on the task bar. He clicked on the icon, yet windows said that the audio output was disabled. In order to enable it, click OK to go to control panel. He did not do anything.

When I saw this happening hours later, I tried to enable it. However, there was no enable or disable buttons anywhere, except the speaker, microphone, and sounds information shown on each tab. Everything was shown "working" on the tabs. I was attempting a microsoft windows sound test on the "sounds" page. But no sound was produced.

Please help

Hi there,

Hope you guys can help me out - I'm at my wits end.

I found similar thread about this here but unfortunately the troubleshooting didn't help.

So, my Front Audio jack is disabled and not sure what happened. The front audio mic has no issues

My Sound Card is the Conexant HD Smartaudio 221

Yes, I tried looking at Device manager and the only thing that pops up is that (Conexant) under sound.

I also tried right clicking the speaker icon on my desktop tray but it didn't let me enable the audio jack. not sure why.

I tried downloading the realtek ac97 for vista (saw something else online about this) but that didn't work either. The thing couldn't be installed in my laptop for some reason.

Any help would be so much appreciated - thanks in advance you guys.

I have an odd problem and google isn't helping. My computer was working fine yesterday no problems. This morning when I powered it on aero, audio, and internet all disabled. The audio and network adapter drivers are showing up fine in device manager. Tried to boot into safe mode and it hangs on aswRvrt.sys. I boot back to normal mode and clean boot. No change. I run chkdsk and it says the drive is clean, doesn't even attempt to scan it. I am not really sure what is going on. Any help would be appreciated.

I recently upgraded to Windows XP Service Pack 2. After upgrading, my sound mixer was missing from the system tray. I installed updated drivers and a new system BIOS. I reinstalled XP a second time and sure enough, my mixer was back. I upgraded a second time to SP2 and the same thing happened. When I go into the control panel, it states that no audio device is installed. When I click on hardware, it shows that everything is installed and working properly.

However, when I click on Crystal WDM Audio Codec, system board card, and then click mixer, it states that the drivers are installed, but have not been started. How do I start the driver, or would it be better for me to just stay at the SP1 level since I don't seem to have problems there?

My system is Dell Inspiron 8200 Laptop.

I don't know how to fix this one.

Please help!

A:Sound Mixer Disabled after installing SP2

G'day wil0009, Welcome to TSF!

Let's try this to see if it works....

Go Start > Control Panel > (select "Classic View") > Sounds and Audio Devices > Volume > Tick the Box Place Volume Icon in the taskbar.

Now click Advanced (the one next to the box you just ticked) and make sure that nothing is 'muted' > close out of the volume controls > Apply > OK.

Post back with the results, and if there are any other queries/concerns.

Kind Regards,

My mouse and keabord are disabled while installing Xp SP2 pro

I've ended up having to use the Windows XP Pro SP2 repair installation. Even though everything goes smoothely, when it says it's "Installing Devices" a window pops up telling me that my Integrated Audio card has not passed "Windows logo testing". I have tried by say both Yes and No even though usually I'd simply make it continue, I can't, because at this point the keyboard/mouse are disabled, and I don't think that they're even recieving power. I've checked my BIOS for things about USB and such, and everything looks right.I can't continue tye installation .please help me

In Device Manager I have 3 references to the High Definition Controller one of these controllers is disabled(black down arrow). I can enable the device and it shows the device working properly and I can check for drivers(it's up to date according to Windows), but when I shut off the
system the device is disabled again.

Shouldn't I only have 2 High Definition Audio Controllers showing up in the Device Manager? I have the Realtek on-board and the HD 6670Video Card. Just found out the HDMI on the Motherboard is not working.
I have also uninstalled the device and and rebooted(getting the installing device driver message with everything good), which fixed the problem until I restarted again.

I have checked all of the drivers I can think of, AMD,MSI,Realtek (I haven't downloaded the drivers for RAID from MSI). The PC is stable I have sound as well(have to check sound with HDMI cable attached still). In MSINFO32.EXE under problem devices the High Definition Audio Controller comes up as well.

I've been streaming from my Acer Aspire laptop to an LG HDTV for a couple years. No problems with either video or audio. Once I plug an HDMI cord from the laptop to the TV, the laptop sound output defaults to the TV speakers after the laptop makes a two-note sound indicating connection. Three nights ago, after done streaming, pulled the cord from the laptop, and didn't hear the sound. Using the laptop, no sound was issued from the laptop, so checked the speaker default through the speaker icon in the tray. It was still defaulting to the TV speakers. Should have just restarted the laptop right here.

Instead, right-clicked the TV speaker icon, chose Disable Device (thinking this is temporary), and the sound output defaulted back to the laptop's RealTek speakers. However, Disable Device equated to Delete Device as the laptop no longer defaults to the TV speakers through the HDMI connection, and the TV device no longer shows up as available in either Speaker Properties or the Device Manager.

How is this device/connection restored? Thanks in advance for any help. Daniel.

A:HDTV audio device disabled, then vanished

You can try a System Restore (using an available restore date that is BEFORE you disabled the device).

If that does not fix it, reinstall the video driver (which should include the HDMI sound driver).

System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools. System Restore will not delete any user data or e-mails.

Please fill in the "My System Specs". It helps use to try and help you.

Hi Tony ! Welcome to TSF !

Go to control panel => sounds and audio devices and click on advanced under speaker settings. Check the settings there. Click on advanced under device volume and check the balance setting.

If there's an icon that's related to your audio device in the system tray check its options for some way to setup your speakers.

So a few days ago i just restore my notebook because my lan network cannot connect to my friend notebook when i want to play game, after that now my sound is disabled and it said "No Audio Output Device is Installed", i've tried many methods to solve this problem start from uninstall all the driver and install them back, do few things like this thread said, update driver and other thing that i cannot remember anymore

this is how my audio condition looks like:

A:Audio Device is Disabled After Re-install Driver

It looks like more than the sound has a problem. Not sure what the "USB2.0 CRW" is but that has a problem.

All the entries for the "High Definiton Audio Device" should be uninstalled. It looks like you may have RealTek audio.

Suggest you install any ASUS listed Motherboard Chipset Drivers first. They may even take care of the USB2.0 CRW problem.
Then Install the ASUS listed sound driver. Check the ASUS downloads while you are there for anything needed.

Hi there,
well a while back my system (specs below) had a windows update when I went to bed, upon my return my PC booted up with no sound avaliable. i.e. in my task tray the speaker has a red X and displays "No Speakers or Headphones are plugged in" - they are definately plugged in. I did try to use a restore point straight away and it failed telling me the restore point was corrupted (or somthing to that effect).

System:

Asus P5K Deluxe (SoundMax Audio)

If i try to get it solved by scanning it tells me that my Audio device is disabled, whether I tell it to test the rear/front panel/or USB.

I have searched far and wide to get this issue resolved and I've seen that there is a lot of info on this, but my issue seems to be slightly different and nothing ive tried works.

If i Look under playback devices nothing is missing (Ive enabled "Show hidden"), and if i switch where my speakers are plugged in the window recognises that and displays which it is plugged into.

In Device manager there are no errors displayed, and I have tried uninstalling/updating/and disableing then re-enabling all different sound devices.

Thinking that my sound on the motherboard may have died (SounMax) I added the USB sound device to test. This device installed fine and shows it is avaliable but it will still not give any sound. The speaker icon in the task tray still tells me that no spekers etc. are plu... Read more

Hello guys, this is my first post here. I have problem last few days. It could be some sort of malware or virus which cant be detected with AVG antivirus or Ad aware. This lap top hasnt been connected online for quite a while and problems started after used my USB flash disk. After that i couldnt open Task Manager(neighter with right click on task bar - text faded, nor with ctrl-alt-delete) or regedit. Also i cant boot into safe mode (when it starts, suddenly blue screen appears for a milisecond and computer restarts). I cant start AVG system scan, it reports that "application cannot run due to an error while verifying its electronic certificate". I can run AVG guard though. There was problem with C disk (i couldnt open it with double click and i had to use "explore" ). I resolved it by deleting "autorun.ini" file thru command prompt (it was hidden file and, another problem that occured, i cant edit folder options to make hidden files visible). There is also problem with language bar which is disabled and cannot be re-enabled cause its button is faded, though i dont care much about it.

I manage to enter to Task manager and regedit using trick with gpedit.msc. In "User configuration/Administrative templates/System/Ctrl+Alt+Del options/Remove task manager", default value is"not configured". I put disabled and i can use Task manager OR regedit again, but ONLY once! After i open and close ONE of those, i cant re-open it withou... Read more

It WAS working, but I was trying to figure out an easy way of disabling it temporarily for when I wanted to use my regular speakers without having to unplug the headphone cable. that the card had been disabled in the hardware.. when I looted under resources, I find that
it says there are no conflicts, but I seem to have spaced on how to check which IRQ its using,
under resources it just wants memory addresses??

is there a table to draw the links between specific IRQs and certain memory addresses??

how can I figure out which IRQ this thing is using and if its one of the reserved ones

I recently re-installed XP using a relatively old CD (Pre SP1 I'm pretty sure, not there to check, atm). As expected, I had to install new drivers for alot of things. But when I went to install the drivers that were working before, they just say that they cannot find the hardware that goes with them. I went to Dell to get all new drivers and those fail to work also. In device manager is lists, under 'Other Devices' a bunch of devices that say have no drivers installed which include:

Ethernet Controller
Multimedia Audio Controller
PCI Device
Video Controller
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

The Ethernet Controller I'm not too worried about because I no longer have cable internet. The Video and Audio are my biggest worries, and the PCI Device is a mystery to me. Like I've said I've gone to dell to download what I thought were the relavent drivers, but they don't work. Am I missing something?

ATI Radeon X600 256MB

Anything else that might be relavent?

I have an unusual problem: my Audio Output Devices are all sorts of confused. I can't change the default device, nor disable/enable any devices, and no sound comes out.

My notification tray shows there are No speakers of headphones plugged in.

Sometimes it says No Audio Output Device Is Installed.

If I click on it, it tries to fix it, but ends up showing the Audio device is disabled (Not Fixed):

When I open up Playback Devices, it is not disabled.

There is nothing under the Levels tab anymore

I have all devices shown.
At this point, I cannot change the default device nor disable certain devices, even though the options are not greyed out & I can select them. Selecting the actions just does nothing.

I don't think it's a hardware issue, because the audio devices change when I plug in the HDMI cable. It still plays no audio over it, but it switches the default device to the HDMI device.

I still cannot enable/disable, nor set default devices. Selecting the actions just does nothing.

Here is my Device Manager content:

I've reinstalled the devices using the drivers from my device manufacturer. I've heard that the HDMI graphics cards can interfere with the audio devices, and to that end I have uninstalled & deleted the drivers for both graphics devices & both audio devices. I've also used Driver Sweeper to remove the graphics devices.

This, coupled with the odd behavior of not being able to enable/disable/set default device... Read more

I noticed, in Device Manager, that my onboard sound wasn't working, so I tried enabling, uninstalling/reinstalling, updating its drivers to no avail. I had to disable my Soundblaster card or the computer would exhibit freezes/continuous reboots with it enabled. I decided to disable the onboard sound in BIOS and now my computer doesn't do anything--I turn the power on and the monitor stays black and the monitor power light blinks on and off.

My motherboard's a Gigabyte GA-7VT600-L, VIA KT600.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I usually have my computer connected to my LG TV via HDMI cable, recently I tried disabling the sound from my LG TV, so it just played through my computer speakers, however when I disabled the HDMI driver in the sound driver menu, I also lost visual display. I reconnected my computer through VGA, but then even when I click 'show disabled devices' I still can't find the HDMI driver again, therefore I can't get my computer to work through the HDMI cable again.

A:Disabled HDMI audio in sound drivers, but also lost visual display!

The disabled HDMI device should show up in Device Manager if you can't find it in Sound.
There wouldn't have been any need to actually disable it, since you can simply set the default playback device to your computer speakers.

Here's the link to the topic in the "Am I infected?" forum that I posted up: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic460619.html

As stated in the topic above, Google redirects to other sites when I use their search engine. I also hear random audio advertisements with no visible browser and Microsoft Security Essentials is disabled for some reason. I ran a Malwarebytes scan, removed a few malware, then restarted my computer. Promptly after booting up again, my computer again played audio ads after about an hour or so. In addition, all of the other problems continued to happen.

Currently, all my programs still work correctly, including all browsers and games. My computer runs Windows 7 32-bit Professional.

Any and all help is appreciated!

Hello,I've been having a problem with Google searching (it keeps redirecting me to sites other than where I want to go) and random audio ads playing in the background with no open browser window. I tried running a Malwarebytes scan and got rid of several malware. However, I re-scanned right after I restarted my system (to finish the scan) to be sure I got rid of everything and, to my surprise, it still picked up one malicious item: Rootkit.0Access. I tried to quarantine this again, but the ads kept playing, Google kept redirecting to the wrong sites, and the virus kept showing up in recurring scans. As of now, all programs work fine such as my video games (I'm a gamer at heart) and Firefox, IE, Malwarebytes, etc., but I'm still having these problems. I should note that I am running Windows 7 Professional as well. I also noticed that Microsoft Security Essentials was disabled - I tried to restart it but said it wasn't an installed service. Scans show that I did have Security Essentials at one point but is now disabled. Any help/ideas? This problem has been happening for a while now (it might have been infected 2-3 weeks ago, but I've recently been on vacation so I couldn't fix it)P.S. I should also mention that I had the Live Security Platinum virus on my system as well, which I removed successfully by using the self-guide on this site. I'm not sure if I was too late in removing it, and if it left some trace of it on my computer.

I just reinstalled xp and restarted everything and then suddenly I have no sound. I remember there was this program I have to install to get sound but I forgot the name. Anyone got a program they can recommend? I don't have sound right now.

A:I need help installing audio.

If you know the manufacturer of your sound card, go to their website and look for the proper driver. If you don't know the manufacturer, look in Device Manager in your PC. In Win 98 go to: Start, settings, control panel, system, click the device manager tab, look under sound, video and game controllers. Don't know the exact procedure in Win XP, but hope this helps, T.

Sound worked fine before installing XP Pro SP3......after instal, no audio.

No audio after installing XP Pro SP3 (from disc) on an IBM/Lenovo T60 ThinkPad.

IBM/Lenovo drivers from Lenovo Support site for "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus"

are not recognized when trying to install audio device.

Tried installing Microsoft drivers from Microsoft support site and got the same results.

Please help. Thank you.

A:no audio after installing XP Pro SP3 to IBM T60

Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager are there any devices with yellow marks? If so, these devices need drivers installed.
Either way, download the Audio driver for your computer and any other drivers from the Lenovo site.

Hello everybody!

Ok, so a couple days ago i turn on my computer and bam no audio. Clicking on the little sound icon only shows "No audio output device installed". double clicking on it brings up a msdt.exe that only leads to an error "0x80070490". Because my sound is connected through HDMI connected from my graghics card to my tv and then out through an external speaker system, i simply unplug the speaker's cord from my tv and plug it into the output on the back of my computer and it started working again back to normal. However a day later it completely stopped working again.

So of course i scour the internet for help, i uninstall and re-install the drivers to no avail through device manager. "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" as it is called in my device manager (there is two of them actually, the other being my NVIDIA drivers that i uninstalled out of desperation) shows a yellow exclamation mark and brings up a (Code 1) "device not configured properly".

Whatever happened also managed to add an exclamation point next to my cd/dvd drive and plug and play software device enumerator as well. Using the same logic as i did trying to fix the audio drivers actually worked on my cd drive but the plug and play device completely disappeared and cannot re install it. I tried deleting ExcludeFromSelect=* line in the machine.inf file and then adding new hardware, selecting the hardware to install, have disk, but "plug and pl... Read more

I am running Windows XP home edition and finally got brave enough to install Service Pack 2 after hearing of it causing lots of problems. But the news lately seemed to be positive so I thought it was finally safe. After going through the long process and rebooting, I immediately noticed I had no sound and I no longer have a volumn icon in my task bar. When I open Sounds and Audio Devices in the Control panel, it tells me "no audio device". How do I fix this problem? Who knows how many other problems I will encounter if something like this showed up immediately! I knew there was a reason I didn't want to install this SP!

Thanks in advance,
Cindy

Hi there, I just installed Windows XP on a computer that was severely infected. I had to wipe the hard drive partition and started a new installation of XP professional, however after installing it, I can no longer see the speakier icon on the task manager.

I tried updating drives from the device manages but it says that there are no drivers installed. I follow the stes where you direct or browse the drives to install and if fails bacause it doesn't find the drivers.

I installed a HDA Bus Driver and restarted my PC but still nothing..... Please help and thank you in advance for your time.

Hello,

I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate. Clean installation, everything that I had before is now gone. Before today I ran on Windows XP.

Anyway, everything else works perfectly, I installed all other drivers, but I am having serious trouble installing IDT HD Audio.

I tried to install:

Download IDT HD Audio Driver 6.10.6222.0 for Win7 Driver for Windows 7 - Softpedia

Download HP IDT HD Audio CODEC Driver 6.10.6225.0 Rev.A for Win7 Driver for Windows 7 / Windows 7 x64 - Softpedia

But everytime I tried to install it it showed me an error saying: The hardware detected is not supported by this IDT software package. The install will be aborted.

Could anyone help me, please? How could I install it? on Win XP I was running on IDT audio and I pretty much loved it.

Thanks,
