Why after I install the anniversary update does it start to go wrong

Q: Why after I install the anniversary update does it start to go wrong

Running Windows 10 1511 on a 500gb SSD - all works 100% Have installed 1607 twice now works OK and seems Ok for a few hours and then I find all sorts of problem occouring - programs will not run, even Ctrl/Alt/Delete does not work and so on and I end up going back to 1511 wg#hich I have kept a copy of.
At present I have decided to abandon 1607 and continue with1511 - will this still be supported with security updates?

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone else has experienced an icon display issue on their start menu with the 1607 update?

I have just clean installed (and fully updated) the 1607 Anniversary Update on 2 PC's and both are experiencing an identical issue with their start menu. The problem whilst seemingly minor is especially annoying given that I have performed the updates for some friends and it is a matter of pride to me that I hand over any such systems in a perfect state.

The Start Menu program list (A - Z list) as well as the "most used" and "recently added" lists contain icon tiles for the installed programs. On both systems around 25% of these tiles display a generic "blank page" image rather than the icon image associated with that program. That said the tile in question opens it's associated program and it's text label also displays correctly.......as I said earlier an annoying niggle!

By now you are all thinking ah its a icon cache failure just rebuild the icon cache!! I have of course rebuilt the icon cache following the instructions contained in option 2 of the tutorial here www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5645-icon-cache-rebuild-windows-10-a.html as well as deleting the C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\IconCache.db file neither of which corrects the issue.

0xC1900101 - 0x40017
We've set you PC back to where it was right before you started installing Windows 10
The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation
What was tried: Connected straight to ethernet, Turned off wireless and Defender A/V, Removing the D/L files, D/L fresh from ISO file, launched install file, went through approx 50% and PC rebooted - nor stuck on black screen with swirling dots for OVER 4 hours with a brief HD access every couple of seconds.
Rebooted again -- still swirling dots on black screen. Tried again, same results.
Rebooted with F8 to get original Win 10 back.
Turned on "metered connection" option for WLAN to stop this update from happening. But now I cannot get and security updates for this machine.
Please suspend this D/L until fixed. Cannot afford to have no protection!

I tried to update using the usual method, as the new update was present. I tried twice, and it failed twice. 2nd time it became clear that the Razer Synapse software (recent purchase of a discount keyboard) was causing the issue. So, I've uninstalled that. I know for a fact it isn't, because it just told me it could not install the update and reverted to the previous version. What gives?
So, I can see it has downloaded the update to the '$WINDOWS.~BT' folder, but it will not trigger by running the 'setup.exe' file. My question is, how do I proceed now? How do I trigger the update I've downloaded to install, when Windows seems to have decided it's already installed it?

Here is the Service Manual: Manual Pages 41-47 show removal of the service bay door and replacement of the hard drive. Just install the SSD in place of the hard drive. You can remove the mSSD drive. It is not useful with a main SSD drive. It was designed only to speed up a regular mechanical drive.  Do you have a Windows 10 installation disk? As soon as it starts to update, disconnect the wireless or LAN. It was able to update after this. Once it got past this section, I connected to the wireless again. Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update will start rolling out on 9 August

Last night Microsoft has started rolling out Windows Anniversary update to Windows 10 PCs but the company has delayed the update roll out for Windows 10 Mobile Devices. However, we have a good news for the users who are eagerly waiting for Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update!

Microsoft?s official Lumia India Twitter handle has confirmed to a user that Windows Anniversary update will begin rolling out to the selected Windows 10 Mobile devices from 9th August.
Until next Tuesday, when it will start rolling out for non-insiders, you can check out our review of Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update here. If you can't wait until then, you could opt in to the Insider Program, which is offering the RTM build, 14393.5, on all three rings: Fast, Slow, and Release Preview. Will windows find most of the drivers?
If I enter my service tag and go to drivers will all the drivers that I need be there?
(I had an old Dell with Windows XP. I did a clean install on it once. I think there was one device that was listed as unknown. I put in the dell driver disk and it install most of the missing drivers I needed, as I recall. But you no longer get disks with Dell computers.)
Is there a place to download a drivers disk?
If I open Macrium Reflex, it shows that there are 5 partitions. One is the c: drive, one is PBR Image, one is wintools (I think). What are the other 2? They must be Dell partitions as I never created any partitions.
I looked up the model number of my harddrive and it appears to be a standard hard drive. Somebody said that there could be a small SSD that is used to help the other drive boot faster. If there was such a drive, wouldn't I see if I opened Optimizer? Or in Macrium Reflect?
The model number of my harddrive is WD10EZEX

4. Winretools

My first impressions:

Pros:
Seems a bit faster overall - I did a complete system image backup in 00:02:09 (previously took 00:02:35)
OS install uses less space (at least for my installation)
Event viewer shows no new instances (I had two known issues before and they are still there)
Reapplied many of Brinks tutorial suggestions and most of them worked... except this one:

gpedit management notice is missing (second screen shot) so I can't say for sure if it will work (or not).

Cons:
Win10BGChanger1.2.1 still doesn't work (as expected)
Sound removed from notifications by default (not a con for me though)

All in all, working well so far (for me).

I've downloaded the update for my laptop through windows update 3 times now. Each time it completes download, then restarts, configures updates, then gives me the notification: "We couldn't finish installing updates" Following that, a check of my update history shows no failed attempt or any reference to the update being downloaded. There is not at any stage an error code.
I have run the Windows Update Trouble Shooter with no result.
Any ideas will be welcome.

(I have a monthly isp download limit of 10 gb and with the speed i get it takes 4 hours to download the update so it has to be done after midnight so it doesn't count against the download limit )

A:Anniversary update won't install - no error code

Hi, download the ISO manually and create a bootable medium (which is useful in various circumstances).
(How - where- see the Tutorial section or search the net- not difficult).

That way you download once and can retry and have it available for other purposes. Also you avoid issues with Windows update.

From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Make sure the result is clear or fixed.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!

Disable any AV. Disconnect any devices you don't need. Uninstall any program that affects or modifies your GUI.

Do a clean boot then try the upgrade using the Win 10 DVD/USB.

If it fails again, you can have a look at the log:
Windows Update logs are now generated using ETW (Event Tracing for Windows).
Please run the Get-WindowsUpdateLog PowerShell command to convert ETW traces into a readable WindowsUpdate.log.

How would I install Windows 10 onto a M.2 drive? Is it as easy as picking the hard drive to install Windows on during setup?

I am unable to install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, keeps failing after second restart (at around 75%).

Machine is a relatively recent custom build, a little over 12 months old: Gigabyte B85M-HD3 (rev 2) mobo, i5-4460 CPU, Geforce GT 740 2GB GPU, 8GB RAM, Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD. Been running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (1511) with no problems. sfc /scannow gives a clean bill of health. No apparent issues with drivers, Device Manager shows all good.

Tried installing via Windows Update and also via the downloaded Windows 10 Upgrade executable... same result. Everything goes well up until the second restart and then the start screen just hangs with the little circle of dots twiddling around indefinitely - up to 8 hours - and no hard drive activity whatsoever.

The only USB devices connected are my keyboard and mouse. I've tried installing in Clean Boot mode with all startup items and non-Microsoft services disabled... no difference. Tried increasing the size of the System Reserved partition from 350MB to 500MB... no difference. Tried installing while disconnected from the internet... no difference.

Downloaded the Windows 10 1607 ISO (which includes the Anniversary Update) and tried an upgrade install in Clean Boot mode, both with and without internet connection - installation froze at exactly the same place, after the second restart. Received the following error message upon recovering to previous version:

I have a problem after installing the Anniversary Update of Windows 10. This post concerns the process which involves a clean re-install of Windows 10 by the method which includes downloading and running Microsoft's Media Creation Tool, choosing "Create Media for another PC". This downloads an ISO of Windows which, when put on a USB stick, can be used to boot the computer and clean-install Windows 10 (no license key required because Windows 10 was already running, although I have my license key.) I am told that this produces a "very clean" install which would clear any glitches in the previous install. Programs would need to be re-installed.

My question please: assuming that the Media Creation Tool will be downloaded after the Anniversary Update was installed, will it produce a Windows 10 + Anniversary Update version ?

Thanks for any help.

PS: I wasn't able to create a Macrium System Image which would include the Anniversary Upgrade because my problem occurred immediately after the Update. If you are interested in what that problem is, go to:

Windows 10 Anniversary Update Might Hide Partitions After Install

One of the issues experienced by users after installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update concerns partitions, as many of those who upgraded their computers reported that a number of partitions disappeared from File Explorer.

Furthermore, all partitions show up as RAW in Disk Management, which makes most people believe that all their data has been removed and nothing can be recovered.

Microsoft, however, claims that this is just a bug discovered in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update install system, and while no files are lost, it?s critical for users not to try to recover anything with third-party apps because this could lead to completely breaking down the partitions and removal of data.

?Microsoft is aware of this issue and is working on a solution to be released through Windows Update. Any data you have stored on the affected partition is still there. We recommend that you not try to recover or otherwise write data to the affected partition, nor should you format the partition,? the company says.

You can also downgrade in the meantime
Microsoft?s Sharath Srinivasa goes on to explain that a patch will be released to users when it?s available and states that users who do not want to wait for it can always downgrade to their previous Windows version. Partitions should be then just as you created them, with all files once again accessible.

For the moments, there?s still no timing on wh... Read more

A:Trouble trying to install Windows 10 Anniversary Update, version 1607

Hello JRAllen72653 Welcome to the Ten Forums!

One advice I can provide here would be to try a different method for either update by upgrade or planned clean install which doesn't seem to be what you have been looking for. When the Redstone 1 update didn't even arrive here for 3 separate desktops as well as a recently new laptop where 10 came already on not seeing the update still lead to fail of the MC Tool to see the immediate online upgrade take place or create the usb media needed.

Twin solutions were then sought! The first in order to see all machines updated was to download the "windows.iso" by way of the MC Tool which equals both the 32bit and 64bit flavors for both the Home and Pro editions. We call that a "4 in 1" type of download that covers everyone.

Hi,
I have a Packard Bell OneTwo S3221. It came factory installed with W7.

I upgraded to W10 last year after difficulty - upgrading to W10 via Windows update would not work, kept installing to a certain percentage then would reboot to a blank screen and freeze indefinitely, I needed to power off then on restart it would roll back to W7. This happened repeatedly despite trying all sorts - clean boots, uninstalling antivirus and updating drivers, etc.

I finally installed W10 using Media creation tool. Everything ran fine. But when the big update came in Novmember 2015 that failed to, in the same way as above, however all other monthly windows updates install fine.

Windows update never tried to push the Nov 2015 update on me again - I'm still on build 10240 now.

I was prompted to install the anniversary update by Windows update last week but that also failed in the same way as above. Download ok and begins installing fine, then at some point after 50% complete I get the blank screen indefinitely and have to power off, then it reverts back to W10 build 10240.

Having checked Packard Bell website my model is not supported by Packard Bell for W10, and they are not providing any drivers for it. This may explain the problems.

Can anyone suggest how to find out what the problem is and if there is a solution? I've tried looking in Update history for error codes, but there is none, it doesn't even show an attempt to install the anniversary update. Like i said every other ... Read more

A:Can't install Windows 10 Anniversary update, stuck on build 10240

Hi, simplest answer is avoid windows update and create the appropriate bootable medium or iso and use it as you did before.
As you know plenty of people have this sort of problem.

Note that the upgrade can introduce new issues for some (search the net), and some are delaying because of that. Older machines like yours could well exhibit such problems. So before you make this change, I recommend you create a disk image of your existing setup - a procedure you should do routinely anyway- to give another way of restoring your system.
E.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + its boot medium + external storage for images.

It's best to have a physical bootable medium as it covers all of:
a. if you need to repeat the installation
b. as a bootable medium for recovery options
c. in case you need to do an in-place upgrade repair install

without taking up disk space.

Hello,I recently purchased a new 2016 model Spectre x360 (PN X7V20UA). It came running Windows 10 1511, and I would like it to be running 1607 (Anniversary Update). However, the update to 1607 is not being offered inside of Windows Update. I've installed everything that was available, include today's November patch releases, to no avail. Windows Update shows "Your device is up to date." This link http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/10/hps-new-spectre-x360-is-probably-the-best-pc-laptop-around/ says that the 1607 update is being blocked on this model temporarily due to driver compatability issues. I tried to get confirmation from HP twitter support about if this was true or not, but wasn't able to get much help. Can someone please confim this?

I have an existing Windows 10 Pro installation. My partitions are:

C: boot, page file, primary partition
E: logical drive
F: logical drive
I would like to do a clean install with WIN 10 Anniversary Update (1607), and convert my disk from BIOS to UEFI.
What modifications would i need to do to GPTgen while upgrading and maintaining my programs and data?

Thanks

A:clean install with anniversary update & disk conversion BIOS to UEFI

Modifications....none.

Windows 10 already utilizes GPT partitioning....on a clean install. The only thing you would need to do is change your BIOS firmware from Legacy BIOS to UEFI BIOS. You will need to confirm that in your BIOS. Or to check with in windows.....in the search bar of cortana, type system information and when the window pops up, scroll down to BIOS mode......here's mine.

So I changed my theme in colors to the dark theme; I also in-toggled the three toggles (transparency, show color on start, taskbar, and show color on title bar).
For other windows, that worked fine. For example, the Settings window is full black.
However, for some reason, my taskbar and start menu are NOT black. They are a dark gray.
I restarted my system, thinking that perhaps it needed to be restarted to fully implement the change, but no luck... the start menu, taskbar, and notifications windows are still a dark gray... very clearly not black, especially when viewed beside a window that has fully implemented the dark theme.
The preview window above the color swatches clearly shows that my start menu and taskbar SHOULD be completely black... but they aren't.
I've seen screenshots from articles on the dark theme update, and they showed a black start menu, taskbar, and notification area.
Any ideas on why this would be the case?

So I just updated to the latest Windows Update upon a prompt. (Automatically in other words.) This added the Anniversary Update as well, which changed the Start Menu somewhat. There is one problem though, it doesn't work as intended. I was under the impression that "All Apps" would be displayed at the left by default now, instead of being hidden behind a button. The problem is;

The "All Apps" section is completely mission. (Screenshot)

Any idea what happened, and more importantly how to fix it?

Hi,
I just reinstalled Windows 7 and initially all seemed well. When I was connected to the Internet, Windows installed 3 updates and prompted me to restart. When Windows appeared again, it was much smaller on screen surrounded by black. There was just a blue background with a windows logo. No start menu, task bar, nothing! I managed to right click the screen and chanye the resolution so that the background now fills the screen. Internet Explorer no longer seems to exist. How do I get this to look like Windows 7 please?
Thanks........

A:Windows install gone wrong, no start menu or task bar?

Okay. From what it sounds like, your explorer.exe is no longer running. Try this.

1. Use the keyboard shortcut 'CTRL' + 'SHIFT' + 'ESC' to open up task manager.

2. Using the menus up top, go to File > 'New Task (Run)'.

3. Enter 'explorer' into the box, and click 'OK'.

Best of luck!

Hello all.
Running windows 10 pro 64 bit.
I've updated from Version 1511 to the anniversary update, 1607.
Or at least, I thought I did.
The update went well, no hiccups, no errors. Used windows update, let it downloaded and install and rebooted. Alas, system still shows OS Version 1511.
Used update again, same thing, rebooted, 1511.
Went to the windows site, downloaded the windows10upgrade9252.exe, ran it, same exact issue, rebooted, still showing version 1511.
Error logs show no issues. Disabled all external drives, turned off anti-virus, etc, repeated, rinsed, rebooted, still version 1511.
Only think I've not done is burned an ISO to DVD and updated from that.
Any clues as to what's going on?
Thanks!

I am trying to update from Windows 10 OS Build 10586.589 to the Anniversary Update but my computer freezes at 1% progress. I have tried everything I can think of including: Unplugging all extra SATA drives except my main SSD, unplugging my wireless network adapter, unplugging all USB devices (even mouse and keyboard), removing old drivers and updating outdated ones, and installing the update through a USB flash drive. It always gets to the same part and freezes until I shutdown my computer and lose no data.

Hi,

I just downloaded and installed the Windows 10 Anniversary Update yesterday and so far I have noticed some changes in my computer that I was not aware of before the update.

(1) Somehow my System Restore was set to Disabled and all of my restore points are now gone and

(2) All of my Microsoft Update History is also missing.

Could the update be the cause of both?

Thanks and regards,

2harts4ever

A:Update History missing after Win10 Anniversary Update

Yes, the update is the cause of both.

Major version upgrades like this change so much functionality, they often have to reset various settings to default so that they are in a known good state. Unfortunately, many have complained about the System Restore option being reset to Disabled (this is the Windows default).

As for your previous restore points, that's to be expected. You can't restore to a previous restore point on a previous OS version. All the baseline files are different, and you would be restoring settings for the old OS if you were to somehow be able to restore it.

Think of it like a Bookmark or favorite, but they've moved the location to a different URL. Restoring the old favorite only points you to somewhere that doesn't exist anymore.

As for #2, your update history is gone because again, it's a fresh OS, and previous updates are all integrated into the OS now, not patches. Those old updates don't apply to the new OS anymore.

I don't know what to do the thermometer gauge represents your surface pro is getting overheated and in order to prevent heat damage to the core hardware the device/bios shuts down your device. so first we need to fix the overheating issue and then can you continue with the update.

Strange things are happening here on my W10x86 Pro system, and I am worried...

After being shut down for some time, I turned on this computer yesterday Monday, and it finished configuring some updates that it had apparently installed last time I shut it down. When shutting it down on Monday evening, it again goes into installing updates, but looking like it was stuck on 0%. After an hour I just let it sit over night, and this morning it had shut down. Then today when I turn it on in the afternoon, it goes into configuring a big update, before booting up, taking close to 30 minutes and restarting three or four times, showing me this screen
http://blogs-images.forbes.com/anton...w10-update.jpg that I have never seen before.

After the half hour it tells me that it has updated my W10 and there are lots of new exciting things. Naturally I thought that this was the Anniversary Update, so I looked into the Update History, and to my surprise this was entirely empty. "No updates installed yet", it told me.

Then I manually clicked "Check for new updates", and then it finds lots of updates, like "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 (KB3176493)" and a whole bunch of other updates all numbered with 1511.

I am baffled here... what goes on?

Crap! I see "update to Windows 10, version 1607" is available, and will be installed on my computer tonight! Which means, tomorrow:

1. I won't be able to disable the Lock Screen. I will be forced to look at a "pretty picture" before I will be allowed to log on to my own PC.
2. Virtualbox will no longer run. I will not be able to run any of my VMs until I can get some kind of fix from Oracle.
3. I will no longer be able to disable my touchpad. Whenever I am trying to type anything, my cursor will be randomly jumping to different places on my screen.
4. I will no longer be able to access SD cards on my computer. The Card Reader will no longer work.
5. My camera will no longer function.
6. I will no longer be able to have NumLock on by default when Windows starts.

Who knows what other problems I'll discover in the morning. And I have no way to prevent this from happening. Microsoft will force this on my machine, then will do absolutely nothing to help me solve any of these problems. To me, this just doesn't seem right. This is not the way a large, respected American business would treat it's customers.

Is there any advice you can give me?

1. Downloaded the Windows Home update.

2. I noticed that it was at 92% of preparing the update, but later found it back at perhaps 5%.

3. Second preparation step finished, gave command to restart the computer and finish the process.

4. First step was to configure the update, which went to 100% in a single step, unlike earlier updates which always restarted the process at around 30%.

5. Computer restarted, and the installation process started working on updating (sorry, I don't recall what the actual text on the screen was.) This was quite slow, with two restarts (as the text indicated would happen.) Around 55% complete, the process speeded up, arriving at around 75% in just a few jumps, rather than percent by percent.

6. Third restart began, which sadly gave an error message that a problem had been encountered.

7 Twice, the process gathered error information and tried to fix whatever had gone wrong.

8. After the second attempt, process went into a restore of previous version of Windows; at least that worked.

This is the first update failure on this machine, dating back to purchasing it last March or thereabouts. Any ideas, suggestions, incantations that I might follow? Don't turn off your PC. This will take a while.

I was able to download the Anniversary Update ISO, before I did the Anniversary Update, so I do have that as a backup, but won't that destroy all the data on my C drive?

My questions are:

1. How long did the Anniversary Update take on your PC?

2.. What is the recommended action to take ?

A:Anniversary Update Stuck at 1%

1) I haven't done the upgrade online on any of my 3 systems. I always used an .ISO.

I have an old laptop set to treat WiFi as a metered connection. When I tried to update to the latest build (14393.10) of the Anniversary Update through WiFi, it froze at 6%. I connected it to my router with an ethernet cable, and the update proceeded quickly.

2) If you have the .ISO, you can mount it as a virtual disk. You can upgrade from that (just launch setup.exe). You have the option of preserving your files and "apps".

You could also create a bootable USB drive or DVD from the .ISO. You'd then have the option of doing an upgrade (if you booted into the existing Windows installation) or a clean install (if you booted from the flash drive or DVD).

I suggest spending a little time in the Tutorials here. Not all of them are organized in the most readable fashion, but they cover all the details.

Hello to TenForms users...
I am a new member (just joined,, my first post) and the reason I joined was, besides the other benefits I'll get/give, is because I have been reading about this Win10 Anniversary update and some of the headaches that users have experienced getting through it. I have a quite modern gaming PC and it runs very fast and very well. It came with Win10 Home Premium installed, so I had no say in the matter of whether I wanted to move up or over from Win7. Anyway, it has proven to me to be a very good O/S in my opinion, I loved it, still do, but it does make you scratch your head at times, and the other day while doing my normal internet stint, I got the usual "updates ready to be installed" notification.. I thought I had disabled all the bigger updates, which as far as I knew, weren't being installed as time went on but some of the lesser ones 'were' (virus defs and essential security updates etc), which I didn't have a problem with,, BUT,, this one was by far a very worrying time for me. Why..?? Here's what happened and how it happened with a bit of aftermath thrown in to sort of clear the muddy waters...

Ok, as I said, up popped the reboot to install update message, so after I finished online and terminated the connection via my desktop icon, that's just what I did. Well, from the Shutdown and Reboot command icons I also have on the desktop, I clicked on Reboot and it began the shutting down process and went to the blue screen with the little c... Read more

I upgraded from 7 U to 10 Pro about a month ago, I appear to be running 1511, 10586.494
I haven't upgraded to any preview builds or anything.

I haven't seen any new updates since the 17th of july besides windows defender updates.
The "Anniversary update" Just isn't showing up, I want to try the new bash stuff since I'm a linux guy.

Any ideas?

A:Anniversary update not showing up

If you are already running Ten then best bet could be to do a clean install of the Anniversary Edition. If you really want to go down the upgrade route then that option is available as well via the bootable install media.

Using the media creation tool is the best option:

Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation - Windows 10 Forums

and for clean install:
Windows 10 - Clean Install - Windows 10 Forums

I'm trying to update to Windows 10 anniversary edition.  I kept getting error messages after installation at 75%.  I spoke to MIcrosoft Level 2 support and they said HP wasn't testing my model which was purchased in 2010 and therefore that was why I was getting error messages.  Is this correct?  I am running windows 10 build 10586.

I recently encountered a virus right around the time Windows 10 was updated to Windows 10 Anniversary. I had originally upgraded my Windows 8.0 to Windows 10 (beta), but my Activation code didn't work so I had to get windows to help me, and that's when Windows 10 Anniversary was installed. Before that my computer ran beautifully. All my programs worked with no issues, never issues installing stuff. Now, I have non-stop issues. I went to check for updates and realized that there hadn't been any updates done to date so I tried. this is the error message that persists.
There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80240442)
I have been trying different things for about a week now with no success. I followed countless "outdated" tutorials on what to do but nothing works. Tonight I finally found something recent, I thought it was on this forum but I can't find it again, but I will send a screenshot of the "ADMIN Powershell" commands I sent;

The Echo off at the bottom wasn't there before, I tried to repost it a 2nd time and it still didn't work. I think it actually changed the error code to
0x8024401cBut when I tried the fix for that, it went back to the first error. I have a feeling that this error is also blocking me from installing Microsoft Office. I'm hoping once I can update my PC correctly, whatevers caus... Read more

The company I work for has a few dozen pcs on windows 10. The funny thing is none of them have received the AU. The IT guys aren't aware of any new updates
So for pc users in the business sector, where the pcs are managed by the company, is the AU update delayed by a certain amount? Or is it that the IT department will manage the update process?

A:When will Anniversary Update be available for enterprises?

On my desktop that I upgraded using the Windows Upgrade assistant on Wednesday I noticed last night a screen came up and said "Your PC is now eligible for the upgrade", it disappeared very quickly, so some PC's are still on roll out, it could be they just haven't seen it as it is a weekend.
Of course it could also be they are down to the IT department to do it as well.

After the Windows 10 Anniversary update, when I try to sign in with my pin, it says the pin I entered is incorrect.
I know it is the correct pin number. It's the same pin I've used since installing Windows 10.
I have to sign in using my password. I want to go back to using my pin, but I can't change the pin, since don't know what it thinks my old pin is. I understand others are having the same problem.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Mary

A:Log-in Pin is incorrect after Anniversary update

Here's a WindowsReport story from 2015 on this topic but obviously unrelated to Anniversary Update. Looks like some good suggestions in there, though so you may want to give them a try. As far as precise fixes or workarounds go, other folks are indeed reporting this problem but so far I can't find a definitive fix, either. The "delete the NGC directory" approach from the afore-cited story looks promising, though. Please let us know how this turns out for you.

I recently updated this 15Z laptop to W10 anniversary update, and now am getting an error message at boot-up that reads: "missing system32\eed_ec.dll". Anybody know how to resolve this? Can I copy this file from another computer and paste it into system32 on this laptop? I tried scannow and no errors were reported.

If you have a Samsung (or Samsung-built Dell) printer, uninstall and reinstall the print drivers.

First post here so hello to everyone out there
I have a budget tablet with low end specs which was working fine, even with its limitations. It's a Chuwi Hi12 Tablet (windows 10 and Android 5.1 dual boot). Since the update it's sluggish, frame dropping, Edge freezes, etc. I did the update a week ago on my home PC (much more powerful) and didn't notice any drop in performance I decided to delete the old windows version to save space on my tablet, since it only has 64gb storage.
Is there a way to fix this or, even better, will a future windows update fix it automatically or am I being too optimistic?

Cheers

You've probably had lots of these, but I have to request help.

My Windows 10 updated worked and I can log in and work.

My Store no longer works, nor does Start menu, Cortana, Edge or any other Windows Apps that come from Store.

I have been on the Microsoft Forum, but haven't had any help.

I have used a Microsoft Tool that reregisters the Apps but still nothing works,

Please help, if you can.

Thanks
