Hi I have an   HP Pavilion G6 2210sa withan Intel Centrino Wireless N 1030 wifi card,  runing Windows 10 x64 fresh installation Bios Version F.26 I am having issues with wireless connectivity. In device manager there are no error symbols. I can connect via ethernet with no problem. When I go into the bios F.26 and reset to default settings and start windows 10, The adapter functions fine and i'm able to connect to wireless networks. Upon restarting the laptop I'm faced with the original issue the f12 key changes to orange, and stays orange toggling from airplane mode to wifi mode. Windows trouble shooting suggests that the wireless capability is turned off. It suggests to turn the wireless capability back on using the function keys (F12). I do this and cannot connection to any wireless networks. I have prevented the computer turning off the wifi adapter power in device manager. Please could you suggest a solution?? Many Thanks in advance

My pavilion dv2418nr wireless switch light stays orange, will not go to blue, will not recognize any surrounding neighborhood connections.  ISP says the router is fine, that it is the laptop switch not allowing the wireless card to read any connections. HP tech had me connect the Ethernet cord from the router to the laptop....I got on internet fine...however, that's a hard connect.  Has anyone had this problem with their switch?  i think until that little light turns blue I'm out of luck.  Thanks for you help

I have Windows 7 Professional on my PC. In the first load I had, the PC should automatically detect if the LAN cable was plugged in, turn off the wireless radio, and change the network icon in the right bottom corner to reflect the cable was now in use.
Unfortunately, I had to reload my PC, and since then I can't get it to do it again.
So, what I'd like to achieve is this: Have Windows automatically detect when the cable is plugged in, turn of the wireless radio, and change the network icon in the right bottom corner to reflect the cable is in use - and, obviously, vice versa.
Can someone tell me what I need to do, please?

A:Have Windows 7 automatically switch to LAN when cable is plugged in and switch to wireless when it's removed

There are two methods can help you.
1. Go to <Network and Sharing><Change Adapter Settings> and right click your wired and wireless adapters one at a time to change the properties. Select IPv4, click <Properties>
then click <Advanced>. For each one, clear the "Automatic metric" check box and assign the metric value manually. Setting your wired adapter?s metric value lower than wireless adapter one, such as ?1? for wired adapter and ?2? for wired adapter.

2. Go to <Network and Sharing><Change Adapter Settings>,
hold down 'alt' to bring up the "File" menu, select "Advanced", select
"Advanced Settings" from the dropdown menu, adjust the priority of your wired adapter higher than your wireless adapter in the "Advanced Settings" window under the "Adapters and Bindings" tab.
Hope this helps. Please remember to click ?Mark as Answer? on the post that helps you, and to click ?Unmark as Answer? if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

Hi everyone, I searched through the forums but couldn't really find what I was looking for.

Currently we have a DHCP server set up to a switch, that has a special line connecting to a switch in our shop which is just across our back lot, giving network access to the few computers over there. They recently put in a new machine that needs network access, but they have already accidentally cut two ethernet cords. I'm looking to provide a wireless solution for the machine, but I don't want to have to spend a few thousand dollars on a large wireless switch.

Can I plug a wireless router into the switch in our shop, and essentially turn it into a wireless bridge, or is there another, simpler way to do this?

If this has already been answered, sorry for missing it!

My hp pavilion recently updated itself to Windows 10. Since the update i have been unable to switch it on whether plugged in to a power source or not. While plugged in to a power source it sometimes illuminates the orange charge light, sometimes it flashes when i press the power button and sometimes it does nothing at all. This pavilion is only 6 months old and used infrequently.

I bought my Pavilion dv6 laptop from HP in 2012 without the Blu-Ray option?  Can I switch out the dvd for blu-ray now?  If so, how do I go about it?

A:can I switch dvd for blu ray player in my pavilion dv6 (2012...

I will be needing the exact model number to find precisely the correct part but it is a piece of cake. Flip the laptop onto its back and there is a single screw either accessible directly on the bottom or inside the service bay. Remove the screw and the DVD drive slides out and you can purchase a Blu-Ray reader and DVD burner combo drive on eBay or and slide that into its place, replace the screw and you are ready to go. You will need a Media Player which allows Blu-Ray playback if you want to watch movies. The price of all optical drives has come way down in the last couple years. 2 years ago a Blu-Ray drive would have cost over $100US but now it is likely to be $50 or under.  You can also rebuild your drive module using a generic Blu-Ray drive and swap over the mounting hardware and faceplate but there is just not much to be saved that way any more as the price of the full drives with all hardware and plastics has come so far down.  I will say that if you have a standard resolution laptop screen like 1366 x 768, the difference between a movie on a DVD and a Blu-Ray is hard to tell. Blu-Ray is noticeably superior at full HD 1920 x 1080.  Tutorial on finding exact model number:

When the WiFi button (F12) is pressed the LED show red and a message on-screen briefly says "Flight Mode ON" and the network connection icon in the notification area shows a red X. - this is expected - however When I press F12 the on screen message does breifly display "Flight Mode OFF", but the LED stays orange and WiFi is disbaled. If I click the network icon in the notification area the panel that appears says Flight Mode OFF, WiFi (OFF). I simply cannot re-enable the WiFi with the F12 key. If I go to Computer->Properties->Device Manager, select the Wireless Adapter I can switch the WiFi back on by going to the Advanced tab and selecting Radio->Enable. If I do this the let then goes white and WiFi is OK. So what is going on - why can't I simply toggle the WiFi off and on with the F12 key. Why to I have to resort to the device manager to switch it back on again?

Also you can try to activate the card manualy. Go to Control Panel > Network Connections > and right click of your Card and "enable"

Hi there HP Support Assistant ran a BIOS update this morning and ever since I installed the update the wifi capability of my Pavilion dm4 3002sa (running Windows 8 fine since November 2012) has been compromised. Basically, the wifi button stopped working and windows can't find any wireless device built in!? I have updated all relevant drivers including the supposed HP 'fix' for the F12 button but now the F12 wifi button toggles Airplane Mode on and off only.  I can't turn the wirless device on through PC Settings as the little toggle icon there is greyed out so won't allow me to do anything with it. Does anyone know how to go in through the Run prompt to get to the administrator settings to reactivate the wireless button? I found it online at one point, but I can't remember how now.

Also, I have the old ethernet card from before, but can I just put that where the wireless card is now?

Also, when I went to shut down last night (Well, i put it into 'hibernation' mode...which means it boots up quicker), it just 'hung' saying what it was going to do....i accidentally closed the lid, then opened it back up.....i tried to reboot, but it wasn't having it, so i took out the battery hoping that would help....which it did, then i booted back up......i think this may be the reason i can't connect.......i've switched off and put back on all my router plugs etc, but to no avail.i can still connect to my desktop ok.
So, any ideas? What went wrong and can it be fixed? is it a loose wire inside?

The spill may have damaged some circuit under the keyboard which is related to the wireless chip. If you've never worked on laptop repairs before, let a repair centre take a look at it. They may be able to repair it.

You can also probably send it to Acer for repair if you contact them first, but without a warranty they will charge a lot of money.

Not sure the title makes sense... but here goes:

Right now, I have Comcast HSI going to a dlink wireless router and all is good.

I have a new PC on a different floor of the house that I want to connect to the network. I don't want to snake cat5 throughout the house and it has no wireless card.

What I want to do is place a second wireless router (netgear wgv615v) in the room with the new PC and connect it (to the PC) with a cat5 cable. Then the netgear should connect to the wireless n/w and the PC gets a DHCP address from the dlink

Is this possible?

I've tried setting the netgears public IP as something in the DHCP range but I don't think that will work as it will never sync up to the dlink.

Am I missing something?

A:wireless AP as wired switch

A few routers will work as a wireless bridge (AP client). If the Netgear wgv615v is one of these, simply configure it as described in the user manual.

A:wireless switch not working

Driver is probably a generic wireless driver that windows update has installed. Try and get hold of the driver from Fujistu site...

I found these:

Download the ones that apply, seems as though they ship the li1718 with a variety of Wireless cards.

Also check your Wireless settings in BIOS (if any)

Hi guys..

Got a small question about adding wireless to my Exsisting Setup.

Currently I have 1 computer used to connect to the internet with ADSL, it's shared to 3 other computers using a local switching hub.
My home hub is connected to my work's hub about 70M away from my Home.
with another 3 Computers at Work...

So all computer in my network are working great! Sharing files/Internet

I got a new Wireless Laptop with 11g 54Mbits.
Can I add an Access Point to my Home Hub and another Access Point to my hub at work, so that my Lappy can be used wirelessly both home & work???

Or must I rethink my entire network with the use of a new ADSL Modem with router..
I'd perfer to stay with my current setup.

A:Adding Wireless to my HUB/Switch?

Yes, this is exactly what you can and should do instead of going and buying a new wireless router like most people.. *mutter*

Hi.....I use a KV switch to connect 2 computers using one monitor, mouse and keyboard. Is it possible to use a wireless keyboard with this setup? Thanks for any input!

It really depends on whether or not your KVM will allow USB hardware detection.
Some do,some don't.

My friend has a Toshiba Satellite laptop. I am not sure of the specific model. Also I think some of the hardware was put in after the laptop was initially purchased.

It has a built in wireless card, but it is not turned "on." When I try to connect with it, it says to turn on the wireless switch. How would I do that?

A:Turning wireless switch on

With my Dell the switch is the Fn + F2 key combination, with the F2 key denoted with a blue tower antenna icon. I think in another thread somebody said the switch on their Toshiba is on the front and is cleverly disguised to look like simply an indicator.

This is my friend's Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li 2727 laptop. It's running Windows Vista Home (Basic), SP2.

She claims that when here, at home, the wireless does not work. I ran the diagnostic and it said wireless was not turned on, and that I needed to either find the wireless switch on the laptop itself (which there isn't one) or use the function shortcut (which is Fn + F1). It appears that non of the Fn keys are working, e.g. screen brightness etc. and this may be the only reason why we can't turn the wireless on. However, she claims that the wireless works in some other locations, e.g. at her boyfriends or on uni campus.

Some guy behind the tech desk at uni said it could be conflicting anti-virus software, but we uninstalled it all and still nothing.

Has anyone any suggestions?

Kind regards

I have encountered an issue with my laptop (MSI L1300, Intel Atom N450, DDR11 1GB, Sata 160 GB, running Windows XP).

They keyboard on my laptop has become unusable due to water damage. All other parts of the laptop remain fully operational. I have taken it to the repair store and they were unable to source the parts for it so I have been using a USB plugin keyboard.

The issue however, is that to access the internet I must turn on the wireless switch usually (FN + F11). The USB keyboard I have does not have this function built into it like my original laptop keyboard does. Nor does it have any means of turning the wireless ability on.

I was hoping to find out a way to manually turn my wireless switch on so that I may continue to use my laptop.

Any help or insight into this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

I have an Acer TravelMate 290 (running XP) and have recently installed a BT broadband homehub. I initially had no problems accessing the wireless network but then my PC stopped detecting any wireless networks - as though the radio was off. Now I cannot switch my radio on - the switch on the PC is not working at all. The problem began once I brought the PC out of hibernation after having (accidently) switched the homehub off and on.

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the BT software, updating the wireless driver (from the Acer website) - all with no success.

Something that may or may not be relevant is that I also recently installed a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse onto the laptop.

Has anybody experienced similar problems or have any suggestions? Advice gratefully received.

I'd like to put a wireless router behind a switch to serve as an access point for a couple of laptops in the area. The setup would look like this:

modem > main router > switch > Linksys WRT54GS wireless router

How do I configure the wireless router behind the switch? I've tried disabling DHCP on it and connecting one of its LAN ports to the switch. I see it in the available wireless networks but cant access it. The main router (USR) has an IP of, the Linksys is, dont know if that has anything to do with it, just giving as much info as I can. Thanks.

A:Solved: Wireless router behind switch

This has worked in every case I've tried it, and for a ton of people here. You need it in the same subnet, but outside the DHCP pool.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses through, I'd assign the secondary router as it's IP address, for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!

This procedure bypasses the routing function (NAT layer) and configures the router as a switch (or wireless access point for wirele... Read more

I have an "old" Cisco router that I am no longer using (its not actually very old, and should be in good working condition). I also need a switch for a LAN. Is there any way this wireless router would be able to work? It has 4 ethernet connections in the back as well as an internet connection.

I googled this problem and read something about it working but "MAKE SURE the IP address is different on both networks BEFORE connecting." Has me a bit worried - would hate to mess the network up and pay someone twice as much to fix it as what a normal switch would cost me.

I read a bit more and it sounds like as long as I connect only to the "ethernet" (LAN) connections on the router and NOT the "internet" (WAN) connection I should be fine and it would work properly.

Any help, including the likelyhood that I severly mess something up with the network, is greatly appreciated. I am fairly new to networking but not computers - I am confident I can figure it out will a little bit of guidance.

A:connecting to two networks at once wireless and a switch

Hi and Welcome to Seven Forums,

First off, make sure that you have this type of connection: Modem>Router>Switch>Wired Computers/Devices

Do I have to assign static IPs to all devices?
Yes you may, but you may leave DHCP or Auto IP on your computers and network devices that will need access to the Internet. You may assign Static IP to the ones that won't need the internet connection but will be part of your Homegroup or Workgroup to share and access network resources such as files, printer, etc. Assign a Static IP only on IP Address and Subnet Mask, the Gateway and DNS Servers will be left blank.

Do I have to create a new subnet mask so my PC can differentiate between the two networks?
There's no nees, they will all be on the same Subnet, easier to configure this way and they will all be in one network.

Do I have to set a new default gateway separate from the wireless router?
See the first answer. No need.

Do I require a DNS server?
Again, please see the first answer.

This is all you need and you'll be good to go.

Hi. I'm really frustrated at this and feel I've tried everything. I've been searching all over the internet for help but to no avail - nobody seems to have this specific problem.

I have just bought a new Sony Vaio VGN-NR11Z/S (2 GHz Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo T2750; 2 GB RAM; Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit Version). It has an integrated wireless switch on it and is running windows Vista. These two things don't seem to agree with each other.

I boot up the laptop and the wireless connection works fine, I connect to the internet straight away. I then put it to sleep in the way I used to using standby on XP (closing the lid basically). When Vista comes out of sleep mode I find that I can't connect to the internet, and the little light on the wireles switch is off.

I diagnose the problem and it tells me to turn on my wireless switch, which is odd as it is already on. The only way to get the internet working again is to restart the computer. "ipconfig/renew" in command prompt says the media is disconnected. Device manager says the device is working properly and disabling then enabling it doesn't help. I've just installed the latest driver ( and that hasn't helped either. Changing power settings to maximum performance does nothing as well, neither does turning the switch off then back on again.

Okay I now have 5 devices to compete for 4 ports on my dlink wireless g router. The new device is a gigabit network drive. I would like to upgrade my two computers nic cards to gigabit and buy either 1) a 4 port gigabit switch(cheaper option) or 2)(much more expensive) a whole new 8 port gigabit wireless-n router.

If I go with option 1(preferred because of cost and size constraints) were would be the optimal place to put the switch and what devices to connect to it to eliminate bottlenecks and improve file sharing speed?

The two computers and network drive are all gigabit connectors. The other two devices are 10/100 media controllers for streaming audio. Would I place the two computers and network drive on the gigabit switch and the other two 10/100 devices on the regular router. I do have cable internet but am running only about 15mbps download speeds. Would the switch have to be behind the router? or in front? inquiring minds would like to know...

A:Adding gigabit switch to a wireless g 10/100 router?

I have an 8 port gigabit switch connected to my router. I plug all the stuff into the switch, and just run a single wire to the router. I have another gigabit switch remotely to split out some stuff in another part of the house.

Ok let me clarify what I am up against.

I have 20 XPS 1710 Laptops. I am setting up a LAN event at a hotel conference room that has no access to the internet. The server management program I am using has a standard Intenet set up as well as LAN set up (I can set the server up on the internet or through a LAN. The set up part is not the issue. The issue is the connection

I have a 20 port switch available. I was told that I can use the switch to connect the 20 laptops to create the LAN. So here is the layout]

No Internet capability
20 Laptops
20 port switch
20 25 foot CAT5 cables

Someone please describe the process for setting this up. I would really appreciate your time. I do have access to a LINKSYS wireless router. I was also told that I could just plug in the Wireless Router and use it to run the LAN. Each XPS has WiFi and I was told I should be able to pick up the Wireless router. HELP

The modem needs to plug into the WAN port on the router first.

If the router has 4 ports just plug the 2 machines into the LAN ports on the router.

You can also add a switch with more LAN ports which you would plug into the routers LAN port using Ethernet cable.

I have an Aspire One netbook with the wireless on/off switch in the front right position. It has stopped responding, and now I have to go into network connections every time I want to enable or disable wireless. A minor annoyance, but if there is an easy way to get the switch working again, I'd appreciate any help. Windows XP.

Hi all

is there "any such animal"

I keep a router on all the time but I would love for it to be able to enable and disable WIRELESS at specific times -- for example when I'm away. I can access a Virtual server as it is "Lan" connected via a wired connection -- I need to access this remotely.

I only need wireless when there are people in the house.

A:Router to switch wireless on / off at specific times

Trying to Locate Software that allows me to Easily Switch from My Sound Card (Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional Series) to my Logitech Wireless G930 Headset, without the Hassle of Manually changing the Defaults.
My current OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit

I'm using a sony Vaio and the wireless and bluetooth have stopped working.
The box on the bottom right of the screen for dealing with wireless device switch says "OFF" when I click it, it says I need to switch to either 2.4 ghz or 5 ghz as using both is making my connection unstable. (I'm paraphrasing)

I can't switch because I have no idea how to, and I can't alter the settings in the dialogue box as the checkboxes (bluetooth and wifi) are greyed out. What do I do?

Please help!

A:[SOLVED] Wireless Device Switch greyed out

The IP address is typically either or

Once in your router's configuration page, open wireless settings and set it to 802.11b/g, not 802.11a

Hi. I have a Sony VAIO laptop (VGN-S480) and the WLAN wireless switch utility has not been working properly. The switch is turned on, but the light flashes off and on, and so the wireless connection only works intermittently. The computer is a slightly older model, and therefore does not seem to work with the Smart Network. I have searched many sites, and can't seem to find a solution, although it does appear to be a software problem (not the switch itself) as I have been able to do some temporary fixes in the past. Running on Windows XP professional. Please help if you can.
