Windows 8 HP Pavilion 500 boots to "Error: No boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed" - Hard Drive Diagnostics pass - If I go to "Run UEFI Application" in the boot menu, then manually browse to the Bootx64.EFI file, the system boots to Windows correctly. - Enabling/disabling Secure Boot or Legacy Boot in BIOS isn't making a difference. - System Recovery from the boot menu is accessible. - Automatic Repair has no effect. System Restore has no effect. - Process that I found for rebuilding corrupt UEFI partition has no effect (Command Prompt, DiskPart, assign drive letter to EFI partition, browse to the boot folder, Bootrec /fixboot, Bootrec /fixmbr, etc) - Am now out of ideas. Hoping to avoid a Format/reinstall, as the client use applications that he no longer has installation cd's/downloads for.

Dear Customer, According to the message you have recently posted If the hard drive is reported as "OK", the boot sector or hard drive may have been corrupted and the operating system needs to be repaired or reinstalled. You may need to use your HP Recovery Discs to resolve either issue above. If you didn't create your personal set of HP Recovery Discs, as suggested by HP, when you setup your computer... you will need to order a set.Contact HP Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,GBL84I am not an HP Employee

Hi everyone.

Recently, I've had problems with my computer running Windows 7 64-bit SP1. It took a long time to get from Starting Windows to my desktop. And it was extremely slow when using the computer. It took forever to open a folder or a file. This morning, I switched on my computer and I got this error message at boot:

3rd Master Hard Disk:S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD, Backup and Replace

I'm guessing my hard drive is damaged? Any way of repairing the hard drive? What are the next steps I should take? And in the event that it can't be repaired, any way to salvage the files inside?

Thank you for reading and hope you can help!

A:Error message at boot : Hard Disk:SMART Status Bad, Backup and replace

Back up the drive and replace it. It may run long enough for you to get your data off of it. I would recommend that you put a fresh install of Windows on your new drive. Yours is probably corrupt from the bad drive. I would just back up important data anyway, never mind the programs. You'll need to reinstall them anyway.

There's no real way to fix the drive, and even if you could, it would be uneconomical. Throw it away.

What O/S are you using and did you notice in bios if bios recognizes the HDD?While you're in ther reset to defaults and save.Because sometimes it shows "Error no boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed" and some times it makes it to the Windows screen, It makes me suspect a HDD failure.Download and run the HDD makers diagnostic CD and Memtest86+. My system is showing an internal hard drive error and F8 advanced boot options page doesn't appear to exist anymore (lost recovery via F8). That limits my troubleshooting.

The system is a Dell Inspiron 560 desktop with core 2 quad Q8300 CPU at 2.5 ghz. 6.144 GB of RAM with DDR3 SDRAM. It's 3 years old with Windows 7 Home Premium. The computer is basically used only for surfing the web and has 98% of the RAM free. When the system was purchased 3 years ago it came with no recovery disks or any b/u software. I'm not really worried about losing the data on it as other than the Windows Operating system, there's not much that couldn't be resurrected from the web. This chain of events started 2 weeks ago when I received a windows "Boot Configuration data file is missing required info error." A system restore solved most of that issue and allowed access to Windows but I was still left with numerous script errors that locked me out of some frequently used web sites/pages. At that point I followed an on-line solution to properly repartition the boot config. Upon doing that and restarting, I lost the system Boot Manager and could not start the computer at all ("no boot device available"). I had hosed myself as no doubt my tinkering in the boot config mode wiped out the needed boot management for a proper reboot.

At that point I took it to a local repair tech who brought the computer back to factory condition, fixed the boot config, reloaded all software, updated ... Read more

While trying to load a HD sentinel from CNET I picked up a malware/spyware search engine called "Sweetpacks" that has become my new default search engine! It won't go away by selecting a new default browser either. A search of the forum for this bug suggests loading a particular cleaner program. Tried that and the links are no longer any good.

Decided to do a system restore back to early this morning when I first loaded the Mozy "free" backup program. That got rid of the Sweetpacks malware/search engine as well. One less problem. But now I'm afraid to load any HDD sentinel from the internet.

Note that I never received a system recovery disk with this Dell system package. So running a recovery CD is not an option for me.

My notebook is displaying smart disk error what does this mean

A:smart disk error

A smart disc error can mean that there is an issue with the Hard disk drive/solid state drive, HDD or SSD, on the macine. You can verify that it is indeed a hardware issue by:1. Restarting the computer2. Hitting "F2" right after the unit powers back on        -This sould get you into the system diagnostics3. Navigate the menu and look for a HDD check and select that and run it        -You can run the short/quick test, and have it run once*If the test comes back as failed it means that the hard disk drive/solid state has a hardware issue and needs to be replaced*If the test passes, I would recommend trying to reimage, or if possible swap in a known good HDD/SSD to see if the smart disc error replicates

The hard drive has failed/is failing and will need to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will replace it. >>Contact HP  If not a retail laptop SATA hard drive can be used. Just be sure to get one of at least equal capacity as the original in order to use Recovery Media to install Windows. It can be larger, but not smaller capacity. For instance if you have a 500GB hdd you could use a 750GB hdd but not a 320GB hdd.

That is true on some models but see the manual. In your case the hard drive is shown in the "customer self-repair" section and there is a customer accessible panel so you can remove the hard drive and still keep the warranty. Just put it back and button it up before sending it in to HP.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hello,This usually means that the hard drive is failing and about to die. Your best course of action is to copy the files over to another media ASAP, and replace the failing hard drive.Since Windows Backup does not work, you might consider booting a live Linux CD and manually copy the files over to an external media (external hard drive or flash drive) to avoid straining the failing hard drive further.

I've been getting the SMART hard disk error for sometime now and the computer has finally stopped working.  This whole time I have been unable to back up my computer.  After tons of google searches and going into Administrative tools, going into security, running and stopping microsoft shadow software I had no luck with being able to back up my computer.  Im not a computer expert by any means so at some point I had to give up and before I could bring it to a store to help me back it up, it has now stopped working and asking for a bootable disk. Question: what sort of hard disk should I replace the current one with? I've seen specs like 500GB,  7200 RPM, RAM etc etc, and I dont know if one is better than another.  Id just like to know what specs are for my laptop.   Also I have my WIndows 7 product key....now when the new hard disk goes in, how can I go about using that product key to get windows back onto my laptop? Hi, The error may indicate that your Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced. First of all, remove and then reconnect the Hard Drive - the procedure is described starting on Page 54 of your Maintenance & Service Guide. Next, tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run a test on the Hard Drive.  Post back with the details of any error messages. Regards, DP-K

A:no boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed

Hi @Jimmy56,Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I understand that you had a "no boot disk has been detected"  type of error on start up, and that you replaced the hard drive and have the same issue. I am happy to help with this. If you put back the original hard drive you can use the following to test the hard drive. It is possible there was a connectivity problem and just re-seating the hard drive could make a difference. HP PCs - Hard Disk Error Displays before the Computer Starts As to the newer hard drive you put in, if there was not an operating system installed you are going to get the same type of message. You could do the same hard drive diagnostics from the above link, just to be sure the drive is good. Please let me know the results, but if just installing the original hard drive back in to the system works, and it starts up properly, then please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

The first thing to try is to disconnect the connectors at the disk and on the motherboard. Reconnect them afterwards and then power up the PC.

I yesterdy tonight fitted an HP e-pc C10 with a new hard disk, and the disk
has been partitioned, formatted and set as primary. Using the HP
Recovery CD which came with the machine, I installed Windows 2000 on to
the new disk.
The install went without hitches until the very first full boot. Admin
sign-on is completed, then Win 2k spontaneously shuts down and
re-starts. On the re-start we get an error message: Boot failure, disk
not recognised. Press any key to restart the OS.
On pressing the key the boot once again fails. This is very hard to
understand, as the machine successfully booted in to the install
programme twice. Furthermore, the bios detects the hard disk as a
Primary IDE correctly. Yet, at the crucial moment of finalising the OS
boot the system fails.
Anyone any thoughts?

Frustrated with the ongoing warnings, I clicked a box in the pop up window to keep windows from flagging the error again. That worked and I?ve since removed the failing drive from the computer. During Boot sequence, PC displays error message "Smart Hard Disk Error" -- Hard Disk 1 (301". No problem is apparent ... P/C runs OK if option to continue is selected. How do I reset or eliminate the Smart Disk Test which appears to be erroneous.  The diagnostics run OK with no errors or problems detected.

I have a Gateway desktop computer about a year old. It had been working perfectly, but today when I restarted it, I got an error message saying " no boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed." At the bottom of the screen was a message saying to use the delete key to enter BIOS set up. I went into the bios set up, but didn't see anyway to check my hard drives

Hi Noor_, I am not sure what functions does your product got but If applicable, you should do steps that i shared below; If Device gives a Smart Disk Error, you should find failure ID and contact with HP Support for your country. For Hard Disk Check; > Turn off to computer> After press to Power button to Power On, you should press quickly to ESC key for many times> While Start Up Menu comes, you should press F2 for System Diagnostics> After then, you should select Component Test > Hard Drive Tests > Long DST> If your device has defective hard drive, test will give result as failed and please take a note failure ID that appearing on screen then call HP Support for your country    Thanks,

I just reformatted a dell dimension L866R and changed the windows to xp pro. Since changing the boot order in the BIOS this message will appear. When you press any key the message just keeps repeating itself in a loop.

When you put the windows cd and don't boot from the disk windows will come up. I cannot access the BIOS to try and change the boot order which I think that it might be.

Previously the computer had windows 98SE but the video drivers would be recognized. Decided to upgrade to newer windows version.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This sounds straight forward, but I can not figure this out I am new to this. I have a Etower 500 MHz with 192 mb's of memory and 4 gig hard drive. I used partition magic 3.5 to partition the drive inorder to try and install DOS and win98 and maybe linux. I am following the instructions from this web site here>> http://www.xperts.co.za/multi-boot/ I am using the disks that I made from downloading from this site referring to REUEL Boot disk this disk took me through the entire process. It all went great until I rebooted and I keep getting Non-System disk or disk error I have no disk's in the drives. I even installed win98 and all it did was go straight to windows. With in windows I could see the drives I partitioned all of them except the one that windows was actually on. I have done this again and again trying to see if I did anything wrong. Anybody know what is wrong?
Also can anyone tell me how to get free dos I can not figure out what files to download. The one that I am trying to install now is suppose to be mini dos 6.22. I am really new to dos so I am doing a lot of guessing.

Hi BC,

Hoping you can help with my issue.  The overview is that my computer is running incredibly slow in normal mode (opening windows explorer takes upwards of 10 minutes), there is a new shortcut on my desktop called "Continue File Opener Installation", and now when I boot up I see a "SMART Hard Disk Error".

Here are my system specifications:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64-bit
Manufacturer/Model: Hewlett-Packard/HP G62 Notebook PC

Here is the detailed sequence of events that had led up to this post:

1. My wife is the primary user of this computer, and one day she told me it was running incredibly slow.  It was not a gradual slowdown, it went from "normal" speed to basically unusable all at once.  Opening any application or file takes many minutes.  I don't know of any action taken by her that caused this (i.e. downloading a file, installing an application, clicking on a suspicious link).

2. I tried to check some things like disk cleanup, defragmenter, removing unwanted applications, removing internet add-ons, but I could hardly do anything because of the computer performance.  I think I got a few things removed, and I turned off some things in the Startup tab of System Configuration, but that didn't really help and I eventually switched it to boot up in safe mode and restarted the PC.

3. Once I got it started in safe mode, it ran much more like I would expect.  I started with safe... Read more

There is no reason for you to worry about malware since SMART test clearly indicate your hard drive failing.
You should back up your data immediately (while you can), buy new hard drive and reinstall Windows.

Hi Everyone!

My problem is that when I am booting my PC screen with BIOS picture appears and saying that No Floppy Disk Detected. It gives me 2 choices: Press F1 or Del. After clicking on F1 it's either (everytime different) taking me to the screen with "Press A key to continue" or doing something and telling me that "System completed power on self cast. Computer now booting from operating system". Then it booting again and either going to the beginning and gives me 2 choices again: Press F1 or Del... or giving me "Select boot device" window with 3 choices in it 1. WDC WD 1600JB-******(it's my Hard Drive), 2. _NEC DVD*****name for my CD drive and 3. SCSI DEVICE. Only when I click on option 3 it is booting PC.

I have Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition Service Pack 2. Intel Pentium 4 CPU, 1.80Ghz.

I tried to change BIOS settings as advised in following post but it still doesnt work...

Hi.

Ok, I bought a new power supply, because my old one was too damn loud. I hooked it up to my PC, turned it on, everything is looking fine, start up detects my DVD drive, 2 hard disks.. then I get the message "BOOT FAILURE INSERT SYSTEM DISK".

Now I've seen some other people talk about going into BIOS and changing the start up to the HDD and not the CD.. well I've done that and it doesn't help. If I let windows load up and it asks me to which partition I wish to install windows, no partition is present. It's as if after the initial start up the drives arn't being found.

I plugged my old (but loud) PSU back in, connected up all the cables, and it works perfectly.

Why does the new PSU not detect my HDD's after the first BIOS screen start up? Any ideas?

A:New power supply, no hard disk detected on boot?

Are you certain you correctly connected everything?

The PSU makes absolutely no difference to your boot order, it just supplies power to everything with a connection. Try a different connector in the hard disk, and try it again.

Its possible the PSU is faulty (it happens), and there is no power when they should be.

I am totally obsessed with downloading music, but awhile ago I attemped to download an upgrade to the basic Kazaa system. Once I had fully downloaded the upgrade I went to click on Kazaa and a message popped up saying," You have uninstalled a part of Kazaa needed to run and to close and reinstall." (I believe it was called error 1030, I'm not positive though) Anyway, I uninstalled Kazaa and reinstalled several times and the same message keeps appearing.I checked to make sure I had all the needed componets to run Kazaa aswell. I can't figure out what to do. I tried other music sources but I can't find one I like as much as Kazaa. If you know what I should do please HELP!!

A:Kazaa Error 1030, any adivse?

What I would do is:

1. Use a spyware scanner to delete all the spyware that comes with the Kazaa download
2. uninstall Kazaa using the JV16 power tool
3. Do a file search for Kazaa and delete all of the files that are found.
4. Backup the registry
5. Use Jv16 power tool to clean the registry.
6. If you want to and are brave enough, do a manual search for useless Kazaa keys in the registry (be sure to have a backup if you do this)
Reinstall the latest Kazzaa with all of its Spyware. (Perhaps you might want to try Kazaa Lite)

Hello, I have a HP Pavilon 15 TouchSmart laptop. The mute button is always lit up. I cannot get it to turn off. I'll press it and it will unmute and mute but the light stays red. Also the sound is working. I can control the volume even the red mute button is on but no sound will come through. I've tried pluggining my headphones and no sound come out from their either.  This problem started when I was connecting my HBS-730 Headset via bluetooth but then that wouldn't connect to my PC. I went in through the control panel disabled, enabled everything and nothing. I did update the driver of the Realtek Audio Driver, maybe that could have been the problem? I am running on Windows 10.  I also tried troubleshooting the sounds and the report says "Generic Audio Driver not fixed" so even troubleshooting could not fix my problem.  What can I do/need to do?

The first thing you should do is backup any data that you value before it fails completely. Once you have the data backed up, You can run diagnostics on the hard drive by downloading the diagnostic tool for the hard drive brand and making a bootable disc.

Hello,

I sent my computer in for repairs a while back and now the wireless card won't work. It can't find any signals unless I plug in the one from my desktop. I went to computer/properties/device manager and saw that the wireless card (Intel (R) Centrino (R) Wireless-N 1030) has a yellow "!" next to it. The properties tab says, "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)".

I have tried searching for new drivers automatically but it says they are up to date. I downloaded the latest drivers directly from Intel and tried to manually update them but it said that the drivers are up to date again. This problem occurs whenever I update my computer. I did a system restore and it worked fine for about a month, but once it updated it did the same thing again. There is no restore point to go to this time, so I'm stuck.

Anyone know what I should do?

Thanks

Hi,My Envy 23 Smart Touch recently refused to start.  I search and did the recomended items to try and get it going again, such as:Diconnect all devices, disconnect power, hold power button for 5 sec, power on with F10 key, etc...  have performed this numerous times. No luck.  I don't see the BIOS.  There is power as the hard drive light does do a short light, and the DVD drive does make an initial sound.  Even tried a USN keyboard to see if that would help. I have even reset my CMOS with the jumper pins, checked the battery, unplug/plug hard drive and other cords that attach to the motherboard.  Have reseated the RAM - tried to also boot with just one chip in. Hard drive appears to be ok as I was able to browse its contects when I removed it and attached it to my smart TV (Partitions and folders). Still, no response to the PC other than the quick LED HD light coming on and the quick LED light on the DVD drive -screen remains blank.  This PC is just now 3 years old. Anything else to try? Thanks in advance.Jim

A:envy 23 smart touch does not start - blank screen

My ENVY 23 Touch screen dioeds not start. I tried all the suggested steps that I could find... As we have two power cords exactly the same wattage, that has been tried as well... Ther light at the back comes on when the power cord is plugged in, but the start button coes not work. Unplugging and holding the start button down for 10 seconds and re starting does not work.Restartting with F10 key down does not work. Nothing seems to do the trick. It happenerd once before and I was able to restart it with a hard start (holding the power button down for 5-10 seconds with power cord off) and restarting. It did work about three weeks ago. Now it does not. Any suggestions?

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

According to the product description page on the H-P web site, there is an Ethernet port between the audio output jack and the USB ports on the back of the computer.

You may need an Ethernet connection from a computer to the router to get the router set up.

I am currently running Windows 7 enterprise. I have heard that I would have to do a clean install instead of an upgrade. This is OK. I am mostly concerned about compatability and touchsmart functionality.

A:I have a touch smart PC model IQ526. Can I upgrade to Window...

Joe30339 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!Personally, I would advise AGAINST doing the Upgrade.  Why? Because HP does not supply any Win10 drivers for your PC, and if you force the Upgrade, you will then be relegated to generic drivers that Microsoft supplies. While those MIGHT work, if any do not, then you're stuck with hardware that will not fully function, as the HP drivers needed for that hardware simply do not exist. However, if you are determined to press forward, you can protect yourself from upgrade and recovery problems if, BEFORE you do the Upgrade, you consider using a third-party imaging/restoration application like Macrium Reflect to image off your machine so you can easily restore it if anything doesn't work. Macrium Reflect (MR) provides a FREE version that can be used to image and restore partitions or entire drives: http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx What I recommend is the following:1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR)2) Run MR and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB stick3) Use the option to create a boot USB stick or CD My experience is that MR, when using the High Compression option, typically can compress the saved image file to about 50% of the USED space in the OS partition. This means if you have an 80GB OS partition, and 40GB is used, MR only needs about 20GB to store the ima... Read more

hi,
I have windows vista on an acer aspire. about an hour ago, I got an error message that said " system error. hard disk failure detected". after that I got about 50 error messages all layered on top of each other, with 2 options I can't remember. I was then reading about this possible virus online when my desktop folders disappeared and soon the computer shut itself off. I restarted and got all the error messages again, but was able to get on to the internet (under the start menu all the programs were gone, but when I went to all programs you could see them). but again the computer shut itself off (after i tried to close some of the error windows which were blocking my view of the web browser).

now I tried to restart my computer again but it will not start. instead it is giving me a window with the option to repair or restore.

I am on my phone posting to this site, hoping someone can help.

I do not have a cd/dvd drive, btw.

Good Morning,

Have run into a problem removing some malware. We have successfully removed malware from this and other computers in the past, but ran into an issue this morning.

Computer is running XP SP3. This morning, we found that there were a large of number of "critical hard drive" alerts, both in the task bar and in pop ups (Red icon in taskbar with white x in it?). None of those files were clicked and we rebooted into safe mode with networking. However, once logged in as the same user that was logged in previously, we are unable to run rkill.exe (or several of its renamed versions) and are also unable to install malwarebytes. Both programs receive "access denied" errors.

Appreciate any assistance that can be provided!

Wanted to add a little more information.

The main dialog box (lots of cascading dialog boxes) listed "System Error. Hard Disk Failure detected. It's highly recommended to run complete HDD scan to prevent loss of personal files." The two buttons were 'scan and repair' or 'cancel and restart.' (Didn't click any of these)

In the taskbar, the pop up says "Critical Error. Drive sector not found error."

Thanks again.

Along with a slew of "System message - Write Fault Error" Popups, and a Popup that has a bunch of what I assume is Russian Chars that ends with "DFS has stopped working", the top Popup reads "System Error. Hard Disk failure detected".

I have read the Prep guide and will include the output of DDS below.

Looking forward to getting this crap off of my machine.

Thanks for being here, your expertise is much appreciated.

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.

the desktop background is now black, a get a dozen pop ups that states:

System Message - Write Fault Error
A write command during the test has failed. This may be due to media or read/write error. The system gemeratesan exception error when using a reference to an invalid system memory address.

Then I get a pop up that states:

System Error. Hard Disk Failure Detected
It's highly recomended to run a complete HDD scan to prevent loss of personal files
Run Scan or Close and Restart
The desktop has been wipe clean except for the the recycle bin, internet explorer(which doesn't work) & windows explore. All my other files & programs are gone. There is also nothing in the start up menue except for windows word. Not even the control panel is showing.
Starting in Safe Mode, the desktop & start menue are the same, except i dont get the pop ups.

i wanted to try and run rkill from my flash drive, but i cant even get to the driver to start it.

Any help would be great

Thanks
