The full error reads: There was a problem sending the command to the program.
This is actually an older Excel problem that appears to have returned with my upgrading to Windows 10.
This error is presented whenever I try to open any excel file (tried .xls .xlsm .xlsx) by double clicking on it and right clicking and selecting "Open".
I can open Excel by itself and go to FILE->Open and all the files open just fine that way.
I've tried all of the following:
Disable all COM and Excel add-insDisable hardware accelerationCheck "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)", close excel, try to re-open file, accept error then go back and uncheck "Ignore other applications...", close excel again, try to re-open files againGo to registry HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.12\shell\Open and backup/export then delete ddeexec
(completed same process for Excel.Sheet.12, Excel.Sheet.8 and Excel.Macrosheet)Go to same locations in registry but instead go to "command" key and change (Default) value from:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\Root\Office15\EXCEL.EXE" /dde
to:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\Root\Office15\EXCEL.EXE" /e "%1"
(completed same process for Excel.Sheet.12 and Excel.Sheet.8)All of the various methods mentioned here:

A:Excel error when opening documents "problem sending the command..."

Thanks to the marked solution from the site below, I was able to get things working again.
Windows 7 - Cannot run multiple instances of excel using option

The site says to check the DDE option in Excel first. I found that it doesn't matter whether you do this or not. Having the box checked or unchecked appears to have no effect on anything for me. (I ended up leaving it unchecked because that appears to be the consensus of the state it "should" be in on most sites I found)

So the solution for me ended up being sort of a combination of two of the methods I had tried before:
In the registry editor (win+r then type regedit) go to the following location:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.12\shell\OpenBackup before you change by right clicking on "Open" and selecting "export"Either delete or rename "ddeexec"
(renaming to ddeexecOLD or ddeexecBAK helps you remember that you changed something in the registry if you ever have to come back to this location again)Select "command" then modify the "(Default)" entry by replacing /dde at the end of the string with "%1" (with the quotes and a space before the "%1").
Changing /dde to /e appears to have no effect, all that was needed was the "%1" at the end. Repeat the above process replacing Excel.Sheet.12 with any/all of the following that are applicable to you:
Excel.CSVExcel.MacrosheetExcel.OpenDocumentSpreadsheet.12Excel.Sheet.8Excel.SheetBinary... Read more

Hi,

I am using Windows 7. I'm getting a "there was problem sending a command to the program" error in Firefox 3.6. It stays for a few second then the error msg disappears. I thought updating it would fix the problem, it hasn't. I get this error not when I open the main Firefox.exe module but when I open the shortcuts I have to certain sites on my desktop, like mail, mapquest, telephone, Google, etc. I have replaced the shortcuts but no joy.

What should I do? I tried contacting Mozilla Ezine about this but I couldn't log in.

Hello again with another unique problem, Microsoft Office 2007 was re-installed in May. I had recently installed another Hard Drive, & moved all documents, picture, & music file's to the D: Drive, leaving the C: Drive with the Win 7, downloads, & program files. Now I find I can't open an older document file with word. I get there error "There was a problem sending the command to the program" in Windows 10.

A blank word page opens, but does not display the document I selected. I must then select the "open" option, after clicking the "Home" button and search for the document I needed. Then that document opens.

I'm thinking since Office lives on the C: Drive and my documents are on the D: Drive that may be where the problem is.

If so how do fix this? Please with any replies be detailed, as I have history of being my own worst enemy with trying to fix things.

Thanks
DP

A:Word error " There was a problem sending the command to the program"

My wife seems to be having a similar problem with Word in Office 2003. She can only open documents by opening Word first. I have the same software and I also run Windows 10, but I do not have the problem.

If you sorted it I would love to see your solution.

I first noticed this last night when I attempted to install and run Maple Story, a Nexon game that a friend wants me to try and play. When I downloaded and installed the game, I double clicked the shortcut from the desktop but this window popped up. I brushed it off and closed my laptop for the night. Today when I went to check my email through Yahoo! Messenger's email button I had the same problem. A window popped up saying "There was an error sending the command to the program".
Is this a potential virus, or is there a solution to this problem?

Hello One time only and welcome to Seven Forums.

Check and see if your default browser was changed to something else. If it was it could be the result of malware on your machine.

Try booting to Safe Mode with Networking, see how things behave.

If the problem goes away then something is starting at boot time that is causing the problem, or a Internet Explorer Add-on is causing the problem.

Boot normally, then start IE without Add-ons.

Click on Start, type iexplore -extoff and press Enter.

You will get an IE window like this:

Click on Home to go to your normal Home page. See how things are. If okay then use Tools / Manage Add-ons to disable them a few at a time till you find the culprit.

If that doesn't make any difference then Use msconfig to determine what is causing the problem

This is a good tutorial on using msconfig in Windows 7:
How to use msconfig in Windows 7

Click on Start, type msconfig and press Enter.
Click on the Startup tab, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Reboot and see if it runs better.
If yes then use msconfig to enable several items at a time till you find the culprit.

If no, start msconfig and click on the Services tab.
Check the Hide All Microsoft Services box, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Again, do a regular boot, see if it runs normal.
If yes then use msconfig to enable services till you find the culprit.

Once you've found the culprit, uninstall it or find out how to eliminate it from your system. Simply disabling it in msconfig is a temporary fix at best.

Enable everything else you disabled.

Reading around there seem to be many issues with users and Office XP with Windows 7. Some of it comes from not removing the Office 2007 or 2010 trial install and the rest are folks who just found them incompatible in spite of the fact Microsoft says they are compatible.

Hello all. I realise this topic has become a feature. My symptoms seem to be slightly different. It started a week or so ago and what's happened is that none of the my applications via shortcut or via direct EXE (includiing office, games, system applications etc.. unless it's already part of the 'Windows start up routine"). I've started using Comodo Firewall about a month or so ago and I recently obtained the Motorola Atrix (Android) and I think (it's a big assumption) that when i connected it to the laptop and sync'd it started going funny - however I have done a system restore and it workd well but it's started again and it comes and goes if restart (bit of a lottery!)

several weeks ago I did clean out my system when I was infected with the 'google redirect virus' and underwent a comprehensive clean up which did solve the problem - hence the comodo installation.

ideas folks?

FYI, if you are using a router at home, you do not need a software firewall. In fact, it basically has nothing to do since all ports are grabbed by the router, not the PC.

It appears this error message has been received by a lot of people for many different reasons.

I'm getting "There is a problem sending the command to the program" when I try to open an excel file using a shortcut, usually from the "Recent Programs" menu.

Does anyone have any idea what it could be about or how to stop it from happening? This is a new occurrence as I've been using Windows 7 on my laptop for a few weeks now and this just started this week.

I have an Asus Model# U81A and Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007. Let me know what other specs you need.

Thanks

I have experienced the same problem with a few apps. Basically it is when a command is sent to a program (lets say you click a link to open a browser) if the browser (or any app) doesn't respond in time you get that message.

The workaround (at least in my case) is to leave the app open so it responds more quickly. There is a fix that worked in vista but it doesn't work in win 7. It was just to increase the time (in registry) before the timeout message appears.

Sorry I couldnt be of more assistance

"A problem caused [name of program] to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." But no solution shows. I have been using the same HP Pavilion tx1000 for a year and a half with no software or compatibility issues. I run Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 1 - 32 bit. Slowly this message began to appear with every microsoft program I opened and then started to spread to non microsoft programs. I tried reinstalling the programs, doing a system restore to the oldest restore point I could, I also tried uninstalling any window updates that were installed right before my problems. I have read some strings that indicate it may be a compatibility issue between the service pack 1 and vista but the service pack came with the computer and it has been working fine until recently. I am at loss what to try next. Has anyone using Vista Home Home Premium experience anything like this!!!

I have perused the web and not found a ready answer to this problem, although it has apparently been out there for several years. I am running Win 7 X64 and first had this problem using Firefox. Then I set IE as default browser, and it is now happening with IE. More and more programs are not opening, or links in Outlook that try to open something in IE ... I get the error message and a blank IE screen. In Firefox, I'd get the message and then the window would open ... irritating but better than no window opening at all. What is the fix? One source I pulled up mentioned changing a registry key, but didn't tell me how/where to find instructions. I am open to suggestions ... this is frustrating. Thanks.

In oder to fix we must diagnose why it isw happening. Can you go into event viewer by typing eventvwr in search

Go to the windows log>application tab.
Look for critical errors (they have red in the left hand column) that say app hang, app crash, or anything relating to the problem.

When you find them note the event ID and source codes and let us know what they are.

Hello All,

I am experiencing a very debilitating issue with my laptop. The error indicated on the title of this thread appears every time I try to open multiple programs on my machine; the error is present in at least the following applications: Windows explorer, HP SimplePass, HP CSI Shell, HP Support Assistant, HP Installer, Adobe Acrobat X Pro, Synaptics TouchPad V7.5... and perhaps more.

I include with this message a zip file with some recent logs (CBS. log, Errors Event Viewer, Last Scan.txt, Malware log.txt, Check Disk Event Viewer log) for your review so that both of us can save some valuable time.

Note: I am not by any means an expert on either computer software or hardware so, I would really appreciate if you help me out to sort this issue having that in mind.

Thanks in advance for your help.

A:Error message: "A problem caused the program to stop working..."

Hi,

Can you remember when this problem started to happen, if so had you made any changes to the computer such as software installations?

If so, you can try a system restore or use a backup if you have one to roll the os back to a time when all was working well and see if this solves your problem

I can almost guarantee that this is either a damaged or corrupt shell or a conflict with some software, as the fact that you can load the operating system up and get past post shows that it's not hardware related in anyway

Thank you

When I boot up my computer, then open Word 2007, it halts at the splash screen. Eventually, it may say "There was a problem sending the command to the program."
As a frequent work around, I have launched the Services window, stopped and restarted the Printer Spooler, and suddenly Word opens.
Other times, Word opens, but when trying to print, it doesn't work. I do the Printer Spooler thing again, and then printing works fine.
There has to be a better fix than this work around. Can you help?
Thanks.

A:Opening Word 2007: ... problem sending the command to the program

While waiting for the gurus to arrive, maybe we can try some easy stuff.

Assuming the print spooler is the culprit (since it appears to be affecting printing), if it is an option have you tried removing all your printers, rebooting, and then reinstalling them? You may want to keep the printer driver installers and printer settings copied safely elsewhere first.

Any quick help would be greatly appreciated. I was trying to fix some BSOD's and windows update issues on a friend's pc. I thought i was successful until i kept getting "Setup has detected that .NET Framework 4 needs to be repaired. Do not restart your computer until the repair is complete."

After some research, I thought I could resolve the issue with the .net framework cleanup tool. After attempting that, now I get the "Application was unable to start properly (0xc0150004)" error message. The only program I've been able to start has been IE8. This also means I wasn't able to run the BSOD tool you guys provide for posting.

I've tried startup repair more than a couple times. Also tried system restore from the windows recovery environment and it said it was unable to complete. 50% of the time, when trying to get into the recovery environment or just the regular system, I get an "irql_less_or_not_eual" blue screen.

When i originally started working on the pc i cleaned a bunch of viruses off (or so i thought). I have a sneaking suspicion that this issue was caused by a virus with a sneaky backdoor and is masquerading as some .net files.

the system was built by my friend and has: Asus p5ql pro MOBO, Intel core 2 duo, currently 4gigs mem (2x2gb corsair), NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS and a WD HD.

I hope I've given some good starting information.

The next time you get the error msg, look at the details.

I forget exactly how, but you get to a dialog with a description and data listed in a lower pane. On that dialog is an icon with a paper-page. Clicking the icon will copy all the data to the Clipboard. Now paste into Notepad and SAVE.

Examine the data. You can also copy paste the text into a reply on this thread.

Hi,
I've been having a problem since upgrading to XP a few months ago. About 75% of the times that I open up "my pictures" in "my documents" (where I store lots of my digital photos) I get the error message where it asks you if you want to send an error report. Whether I choose to or not, or even if I simply shut the message, "my pictures" closes and I therefore cannot access the folder. The other 25% of the time it opens fine.

As I say, it's just photos and short videos stored in here, all taken by my own digital camera. Virus and other problem checkers haven't detected anything, and there's no reason to suspect these files are infected with anything.

Does anyone know what could be causing this and how to get around it? Thanks

Hello,

I've been an ardent follower of BleepingComputer for several years, but this is the first time I had to register to post about
a problem in my PC, in hoping to get help & assistance from here.

The PC is a Windows XP SP3 32 Bit.

The problem is after booting to Windows, the desktop (icons+ taskbar) won't load, only the background wallpaper visible.
Task Manager opens by CTR+ALT+DEL.
But in the File > New Task (Run) if I type to open any folder (e.g. 'Desktop', My Documents etc.); it gives the error: "There was a Problem Sending the Command to the Program".

Can't access to any drive or can't download anything from internet, since downloading requires it to "save" first in a folder, but
that folder doesn't open.

Also I notices if I type explorer.exe in the Run box of Task Manafer, the explorer.exe appears for fraction of a second in the
Processes list, then it disappears.

This started when I tried to delete an older version of Java manually from the "Java" folder in C:\Program Files.
Since it wasn't removed from the usual Add/Remove option in Control Panel and showed an MS Installer error there,
so I just manually deleting the files from that "Java" folder.
But some files could not be deleted as it was locked, so I used the app Unlocker to unlock them & delete.
As soon as it unlocked, all the open windows/tabs crashed and it was only the Wallpaper - the Desktop along with icons vanished.

Java wasn't removed fully,... Read more

A:Error: There was a Problem Sending the Command to the Program

Well, I am glad to state the issue has been resolved!
Now I am overjoyed to get my desktop and taskbars back, also the files/folders are accessible from the GUI.   No more errors.
I was also going through online for probable solutions and a post somewhere pointed to what I did - to rename the Deployment folder in the location C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Sun\Java and also did another system restore, though I had done it once.
After the computer restarted, it showed the restored point and also all my desktop along with the icons and taskbar came up, which is usual.
Downloading & saving a file from the net is again possible.

Anyway thanks to all, this thread can be closed/removed now.

When moving or renaming files I frequently get an error messages informing me that "The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program". This typically happens with the second or third folder I try to rename or move. Navigating away to another folder and then coming back or closing explorer and reopening it usually helps but on the second rename or move I'm back to square one. I've been reading and searching on the forum and this is what I have tried so far:

stop the windows media player network sharing service
pause indexing
temporarily disable antivirus software
used the system file checker to check integrity

all to no avail. This is without a doubt the most annoying "bug" I have run into so far as it makes it virtually impossible to get anything done or organised. Has anyone found a real solution to this problem that does not involve manually unlocking every single folder before working with it (using 3rd party software - another option I have tried. Works but slows you down a lot)?

A:Can't copy or move files - error message "open in other program"

Hi linmix, welcome to 7F!

This may seem counter-intuitive, but, go to Control Panel >Folder Options >View Tab, and make sure the first box that says "Always show icons, never thumbnails" is not checked or ticked.

Restart your machine.
Try to replicate the problem.

See if that helps.

Hello all & Happy New Year
I would like to eliminate this annoying error message "another program is currently using this file" that pops up when I try to open some programs. One of which is Act 2000 a database program, this particular program also doesn't shut down properly. I also get this error message occaisionally when I open these programs - Calyx Point & Mozilla Firefox, however with these it is not every time as with Act.

A:Error message "another program is currently using this file"

I've used ACT and have experienced it's bugginess first hand. Can't really help you with your problem, but did want to let you know you are not alone and also ACT doesn't give much (free) Tech Support. However, they do have some FAQ's on their web-site, so it might be worthwhile to try there.

I'm getting the error message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.
Create an association in the Folder Options control panel" whenever I try to open anything.

I'm not able to open any applications. I can open my computer and those folders but can't open any files inside them.
The only thing I can open is the internet and I did that by typing the site url into the run box.

I had that stupid xp anti virus 2011 on my computer and was trying to remove it
but I goofed in the registry editor and deleted something I shouldn't have and that's when the trouble started.

Now when I try to open the registry editor, I get the message that says "Windows cannot open this file.... to open
this file windows needs to know which program created it...."

Can someone tell me how to fix this so I can open all my programs normally again?

A:"file does not have a program associated with it" error message

Hi zoel_222 and welcome to TSF.

Firstly we need to fix your ability to reassociate file types for programs. Please follow this link for File Association Fixes for Windows 7. You will want the EXE one.

Quote:

Instructions
To fix the association for a particular file type:

1. Download the corresponding fix from the above table. (Use Right-click – Save as option in your browser to download the fixes.)

2. Unzip the file and extract the .REG file to Desktop.

3. Right-click the REG file and choose Merge. Alternately, you can open the Registry Editor and then using the Import option from the File menu, to merge the REG file contents.

Note that you need to be an administrator to apply these fixes.

Then, you will need to start a new thread in the ' Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help' section and give then all the details they require to help you.

When one of the programs I use tries to generate a particular PDF report, I get this error:

"This file does not have a program associate with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel"

At the top of the window showing this error message it shows:

C:\DOCUM-1\ADMIN-1\LOCALS-1\Temp\ast3DO.pdf

I've gone to the control panel and the .pdf file is associated with Adobe Reader. There is obviously something I am missing.

A:Error message: "This file does not have a program associated with it..."

Right click the file and choose Open With... Choose Adobe Reader from the list Put a check box in always associate this file with this program. You can also open Adobe Reader choose File/Open and browse to the downloaded file.

Hi;
Had a sudden inability to go much further than a third or forth-level download on ANY given webpage and then PC would seize-up, requiring "cont+alt+del" in order to get freed-up. Thought perhaps I picked-up a bug of some sort during a recent google search, and went immediately to Panda and Trendmicro to perform both virus as well as malware scans. While the Panda scan was loading-up, I received the following error message....

... " DoPatch....dll reports error....Error "C:\WINNT\patch.utp"....unreadable or not a patch file..."

Was able to complete both scans. Nothing found other than tracking cookies.

I then did a file serch for the above and located it. It was installed TODAY apparently, and not by me, within minutes of the problem starting.

I'm guessing someone/thing slipped this patch into my WINNT file or modified it while I was doing the google search, so I have included a HJT scan below.

Hope this all makes sense and ties-out to something. Any help would be genuinely appreciated-
thanks

Hello,

I have basic knowledge of the command terminal, in that I only know how to navigate through directories. Currently I am trying to execute the following:

java ?jar MRTBatch.jar ?d input_directory ?p parameter_directory\input_parameter_file ?o parameter_file_directory

I have already navigated to the correct directory to make use of the MRTBatch.jar tool, however the problem arises with my user inputs, which are of the form "C:\Users\My Name\Rest of path". I keep getting the error:

ERROR: Could not find directory "C:\Users\My Name".

When navigating directories earlier I always had to go find the file I wanted, copy its path location, paste it into the command terminal, and then erase the "C:\" portion (so it became cd\Users\My Name\Rest of path) for it to work. So when I got this error I have tried multiple edits for it to recognize the paths. Could it be as simple as switching the direction of the slashes? I would have thought the complete path name would always be best. Is it because I'm already burrowed down so far that it cant seem to recognize any file further back?

Here are the directions I am following, pg 40 titles "Automated Batch Processing": https://lpdaac.usgs.gov/sites/default/files/public/mrt41_usermanual_032811.pdf
My goal is to mosaic a bunch of satellite imagery using the MODIS Reprojection Tool (MRT).

Thank you for the help!

A:Command Prompt Error: "Cannot find directory "C:\Users\..."

Web site URLs use the forward slash / while path statements in the OS use the backslash \.

Your problem just may be that it needs to start from the root of the drive or C:\. If it starts at the standard Command Prompt it will already be looking below/inside C:\Users\your name\.

Some how I've got my registry messed up. Now when I do 'Start' -> 'Run...' and enter 'C:\' instead of opening windows explorer at the C:\ drive it opens a DOS prompt at the that C:\ drive. I know this must be causeed by the 'DosHere' option over riding standard behavior, however if at Start' -> 'Run...' I enter a drive letter and a path like 'C:\code' then it does correctly open windows explorer at that location.

Not a huge issue but I'd like to get it back to working as before.

I feel like it might be related to this registry key section: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell

Thanks,
Neal

A:Start -> Run... "C:\" opening a Command prompt

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\find\command
Should be:
%SystemRoot%\Explorer.exe

Not sure if that's it though

Edit:

I've changed my mind. Pretty sure it's here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths
Look for an entry called cmdc and remove it (probably right click ->Export first, as a backup)

Then try Start->Run-> C: again

A:[SOLVED] Thunderbird "sending of message failed"

How long have you had this problem?
If it was only for a day or two and cleared up, your ISP may have simply been doing maintenance or upgrades to their mail servers.

Otherwise, some security software will actually change your POP/SMTP servers so that mail is routed through it, which is a common cause of your problem. Double check your servers and ensure they are set to your ISP's requirements.

Hello

I recently got the XP Defender Rogue virus on my PC. Between looking online to manually delete the malicious registry entries in Safe Mode and using Malwarebytes software, I was able to remove the virus.
However, now I receive the "This file does not have a program associated with it" error whenever I try to open applications.

I have downloaded the reg edit fix file from the Doug Knox site and extracted it to my desktop however, when I try to launch it or "Merge" it, I still receive the "This file does not have" error, even in safe mode.

Is there another way to repair my registry, or is this something else ?

Thanks

I have an Hp C7280 All in one printer, that I've owned for about 5 years. For about the last year or so I have gotten this error message "Photo Tray Problem" It won't let me do anything with the printer when this happens. The tray is pushed all the way in and actually I never even use it. Ever! So I'm not sure why it randomly pops up? In the past, I would reset the printer by unplugging the power and letting it set for a couple of hours. Then it would work...until now. I have had this problem for over a week and have tried everything I can think of! I have...
1. Opened and closed the tray (to make sure it's as far in as it can go)
2. Cleaned it out with compressed air (made for printers)
3. Unplugged the power and let it sit for over 24 hours
4. Checked to see if anything is stuck inside or missing. It runs through it's cycles fine, although it's a little noisier than it usually is, not much just a little. (But it might just be louder because my face is shoved inside the printer to see what's wrong )
5. Tried to reset it using a sequence code to get to the "System Configuration Menu" I cleared out the Hardware failure status

Nothing is working! Any and all help is greatly appreciated!! I am desperate will try about anything!

My printer was not printing at all. I have changed all 5 cartridges, and the printer still does not print. The RESUME/CANCEL button is flashing orange continuously, and when I attempt to print anything I get the following error message: "Operator Error: Press the printer's RESUME button. If this doesn't clear the error, cancel printing and turn the printer off and then on again".

I followed these instructions (multiple times) with no success.

From the printer's Maintenance I tried the following:
i) Deep Cleaning - Black PGBK, resulted with the same error as above.
ii) Deep Cleaning - All colours, same result as above.
iii) Cleaning - same result as above.
iv) Print Head Alignment - same result as above.
v) Nozzle Check - same resuilt as above.
Turned the printer off and on again, flashing orange light.
Shutdown the computer and restarted it, with no improvement.
Lastly noted how many orange flashes - five. So I consulted the Service Manual,
Section 2-1. Operator Call Errors (by Alarm LED Blinking in Orange).
5 times; Solution suggested Install the print head properly.
All the Ink Cartridges show solid red light (installed correctly). Can anyone please offer a suggestion as how to correct this problem, thank you?

Hi,

I have done "Error Checking" also " Defragmentation"...but that error message doesn't disappear.

What should I do?

Thanks a Lot.

A:Error message " Widows detected a hard disk problem"

That is not a most welcome message.

I would immediately backup the most important personal data and run the DOS version of Manufacturer's Diagnostic Utility. If it passes without any event reported, fine. But if it finds bad sectors and even if it repairs it, be wary. Not to be taken aback by any catastrophic failure that may occur unannounced, always backup all your personal data and also image your system regularly.

Hello!

I have been getting a really annoying error lately every time I reboot.

The error message "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" appears a few minutes after start-up.

Although my windows seems to be working properly after I click "don't send report" (due to restore settings?), the error message annoys me every time i restart my computer.

I no longer want to see this error message.I use ACDC 7 for viewing and editing graphic files, here with this Windows 7 (64) system.

I usually select files with Windows Explorer, and they open using ACDC.

When I close the last file viewed, I get this error message that says "ACDSee 7.0 Application has stopped working"Installations of this ACDC on other Windows 7 computers do not have this issue. So I need to resolve it.

If this started when you installed McAfee, try temperately disabling it. Double-click the taskbar icon to open Security Center \ Click Advanced \ Click Configure \ Click Computer & Files. this first happened to me a few days ago when i tried to play a file i had downloaded from bit torrent. any kind of attempt to access the file resulted in the program encountering an error and needing to shut down [send/dont send error report etc].
i.e. if i tried to look at the file in its folder, windows explorer would need to shut down, if i tried to play it in wmp, it would shut down, divx the same.

i ran g-spot on the file and i had all required codecs to play it. so i figured the file was just corrupt and deleted it. now i cannot play any of my avi files that have worked perfectly for years. i have them burnt to dvd, but i now cannot access any of them. its not my dvd drive, as i can still play actual dvd's. i have some avi files stored on my hard drive that still play.

this is a most frustrating problem. i was watching these AVIs not more than a few weeks ago, now i cant access them at all without this error being generated.

i have run a scan on my computer and havent turned up any virus' etc.

please help!!!!!!!!

I am getting the (program) "has encountered a problem and needs to close error report with a number of programs on my PC."

It started with Outlook (2003) then Sony Media Manager and now Mailwasher Pro. I can use Outlook to send and receive messages OK and the error only appears as Outlook is closing down. My Mailwasher Pro update won’t run at all and produces the error report when I try to run it.

In the last couple of weeks I have tried to download a number of programs, some install and run OK and some produce the above error report when I try to run them.

I was able to download, install and run Media Monkey and Anvir Task manager OK. The problem seems to be with some problems and not others.

The nearest event I can think of that coincided with the start of this problem was the installation of a program called Evernote which I have since uninstalled.

Extra info: I HAVE used Black Vipers site to alter my system services and I do use Revo uninstaller to uninstall unwanted programs.

My system is Windows XP sp3

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks

You guys have been able to offer me some amazing fixes in the past. Can anyone give me any direction or help here on this one?

I am running Windows 8.1
I am legally required to login and report my transactions with the US Fish and Wildlife Service at the following address:
https://migbirdapps.fws.gov/Falconry/prg/frmlogin.aspx
When I go there, I get the following message:

"The page isn't redirecting properly
Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.
This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies."

I have deleted my cookies and cache (at least to the best of my abilities)
I downloaded CCcleaner and had it clear everything.
I have tried to access it thru IE, Firefox, and Chrome. I STILL get the same message about redirecting.
What if anything can I try next?

Thanks much!

Hi,

I have no idea what may have caused this problem, but recently, whenever I try to open a .msi installer file, I get an access is denied message. This happened a couple of weeks ago, and I left it alone. Now, I just discovered that when I open a .msc file (like services.msc), I get the same result. I went back to that same installer and the same thing still happened.

And right now, I just recalled that the same thing happened with .log files. I just tried to open one and it wouldn't let me.

Anyone have any idea what caused this or why it is happening? I couldn't find any help on Google or on previous posts.

Thanks a lot.

A:"Access is Denied" Message when opening .msc or .msi

You may have to do a reinstall to correct this; resolutions for this type of problem are few and far between.

Start by confirming the same behavior exists in the Safe Mode Administrator account (not your normal User Profile administrator account).

Also open a command prompt (start > run cmd and at the prompt enter:

sc queryex rpcss

Is the service running?

sc queryex

will produce a full list of services and their status

If the Remote Procedure Call service is stopped and you cannot start it, try downloading, unzipping and running the attached registry file. Then reboot.

Also run regedit and navigate to:

make sure the START mode is set to a value of 2

Hi I run Windows Vista Home Premium and Outlook 2007. I've set up POP3 access for Gmail and to download mail from mail.bigpond.com (an Australian ISP). Initial setup was fine and I can send test messages to myself.

Recently I've had trouble sending (but not receiving) email via Outlook. The following error message is shown:

Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) email server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP).

This message occurs for both my email accounts.

If I reboot the computer, then sometimes the mail will be sent successfully. I've checked the "account settings" on Outlook- and they are exactly as those given by my ISP/Gmail. But when I click on "test account settings", the test message can't be sent.

What's going on?!

A:Outlook 2007 "Sending reported error"- can receive mail but can't send!!

Angela,

Refer to the earlier query in this section dated 10th April under heading " OE suddenly asking for Logon Password" which shows possible ways of overcoming this . I reckon it's server problem as I had it re-occur a couple of days ago . My Mail is Btinternet which started rejecting my outward messages. I know that BT uses Yahoo so Isubstituted "mail.yahoo.com" for "mail.btinternet.com" ( OE/Tools/Accounts/Properties/Servers) and it immediately started working . So whatever the ISP says it IS their fault and somehow their systems start rejecting things for no valid reason .

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum. I am running Windows XP SP2 Home Edition.

Background. I was running Windows IE 7.2 beta no problems.
I decided to upgrade to Windows IE 7.3 beta the system would not. I removed 7.2 before trying to install 7.3 beta. I dropped back to IE 6 thinking it would run correctly, but I was wrong.

When I try to move a file using the "Copy to" or "Move to" window, the window frame displays, but there is nothing in it except at the top "Select the place you want to move "x" file, and then at the bottom of the window, "to view any sub folders click plus sign," Move, New Folder. The entire file system is missing where I could select a file to move to, example:
C:\ and all the sub folders are not displayed so I cannot select one. The system still works, but all the files are sent to C:\SW3\F2 which is most likely the last folder I accessed before this whole failure to install mess started.

Is there any way to restore the file system so I can select where I want to send my files when I copy and move without dragging them with two open windows?

Thanks. I have more questions, but this is enough to start with.

I appreciate the help. I really screwed this thing up. I am currently running IE6 with expanded stuff left over from the botched install attempt from IE 7.3 beta.

Hi Guys,

Moved the thread from Networking as I got no answers... perhaps this will yield better results! This pop-up window (Thread Title) started to appear when pressing the button 'New FAX'. Second line goes on to say: Specified procedure could not be found.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of where to even start to look at where or why this problem is suddenly occurring? This seems to have started after a critical update but I can't be certain. I couldn't roll back to an earlier restore point as it only saves the last two or three (on every boot-up?) so there wasn't one earlier enough to try.

Thanks.

Hi nazeemrahaman

I am Sampad from Dell Social Media.

This problem may occur if the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) setting in Excel is selected.

For Microsoft Office Excel 2007
1) Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Excel Options.
2) Click Advanced, and then click to clear the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) check box in the General area.
3) Click OK.

Alternately you can also try this Microsoft Fixit link
