Q: Recent Experience with Windows 64-bit Win7 Pro Update (KBs Listed)

My system is an Acer TMP645-MG w/i7-4500U, 8GB RAM on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. The state of Windows Update on this Acer remains that desired to prevent the automatic update for Window 10. Please inform me if I need to unhide any of the (3) KB's involved in that fiasco.

Here is the list of KB's MS is trying to push to this laptop:

KB3167679,
KB3175443,
KB3177723,
KB3177725,
KB 3178034,
KB890830.

I see several unique KB's referenced as a means to circumvent this complication in each post regarding this issue. How do we determine what the best course of action is for me to take to resolve it?

A: Recent Experience with Windows 64-bit Win7 Pro Update (KBs Listed)

Hi,
The free offer expired July 29th
I'm not a fan of hiding updates they only get revised and return
I'd personally Unhide all of them and if you don't want them just leave them to collect digital dust in the Optional section.
Assuming you already have your update settings to excluded recommended updates from being mixed into Important updates section which it sounds like you do already

For anyone with Windows 8, that is thinking of running Symantec Workspace Virtualization, here is my recent experience attempting to do that.

I've used S.W.V. (Symantec Workspace Virtualization) on and off for years. When Windows 8 came out I got a new computer, and decided not to install it. Recently I've decided I want to starting using it again. It's a very cool program.
I started by installing version 7.5.522, but quickly noticed 2 issues: inexistent excludes resulted in error1089 (which prevented removal of any existing layers), and excludes that use a letter drive were ignored (making it very difficult to get data out of a layer because it was all getting redirected). The reason for the inexistent excludes issue is that apparently Symantec has changed how excludes are handled, letter drives need an associated GUID now. This issue is resolved in future releases by simply preventing the user from adding inexistent excludes (which kinda sucks since there was a reason everyone did that), and in this release can be resolved by removing exclude entries for inexistent letters. The other issue about letter drive excludes being ignored seems to be due to the fact that this version is pre-Windows 8.
To resolve my issues I tried version 7.5.538 HF1, but that didn't work because again it's for Windows 7.
Next I tried 7.5 SP1 which does support Windows 8, but it BSODs my machine, and Googling around it seems that some others have this problem too. The exact error is "DRIVER... Read more

I ran the Windows Experience Index on the PC I just built and in the part that tells you the amount of RAM you have installed, it says nothing.

Installed Memory (RAM): (Blank)

However, it did give me a rating of 7.4 for the RAM section. (6 Gigs of OCZ DDR3 1600 )

Is this something to worry about?

A few days ago, my computer stopped booting up. The splash screen for the mobo showed up, and then I would get a black screen w/ a white flashing cursor and nothing else. I put in my Win7 install disc to try to do a repair, and eventually figured out that if I change my boot sequence in the BIOS so that it goes to the DVD drive 1st and the boot hard drive last, it boots up just fine.

I reset to the last recovery point, changed the BIOS back so it would boot from the hard drive 1st, and everything thing worked fine... until it installed the latest Win7 updates. After that, I had the exact same problems. So I changed the BIOS again as a temporary solution, and then I noticed that the computer wasn't sleeping properly. It used to turn off the display, the hard drives, the case fans, etc. Now, it turns off everything EXCEPT the case fans... which pretty much defeats the purpose of putting it in sleep mode.

There are 15 updates that were installed. Is there any way to figure out which 1 is the problem, other than installing them 1-by-1?

Hi all - I'm new on here but i thought i'd give you the benefit of my recent (yesterday & this morning), experience of having Fraud Spyguard "Antivirus IS"
on my PC.
I don't know how or when i got infected, but it showed up yesterday & it gave me nearly 8 hours of sheer frustration. It behaved by blocking the opening of almost every application on my PC,everything showed up as 'infected',including the Registry, which it wouldn't allow to be opened with 'regedit' or 'msconfig' etc. It also prevented the booting up of my PC in 'safe mode' by disabling the UP & DOWN arrows used to select the method of booting up.
I had access to the internet using Firefox,IE was disabled - for a reason i suspect. In Firefox, you have to 'save' software downloads to the ''downloads folder'',then open them from there,of course once in the folder, they displayed as 'infected' & wouldn't run. In IE,you can 'run' a software download right at the start,no need to 'save' them - that's why IE was disabled. Cunning little b*****ds aren't they ?.
I contacted the AVG support team (i use AVG Free version) who for a fee of ?69.00,offered to help. I paid up & they were indeed very helpful & patient,
but nothing that they tried worked,so my fee was re-funded. I then opted for a home visit from a UK engineer to come & fix it for a fee of ?90.00.He was due tomorrow. However, this morning,i booted up my PC (i tried safe mode again to no avail !) & there was the An... Read more

A:Recent experience of "Antivirus IS" Fraud Spyguard.

Glad to hear you were able to deal with this. There are no guarantees or shortcuts when it comes to malware removal and the use of specialized fix tools, especially when dealing with backdoor Trojans, Botnets, IRCBots or rootkit components that can hook into the Windows 32-bit kernel, and patch several APIs to hide new registry keys and files they install. Rogue security programs which use social engineering and scams to trick a user into spending money to buy a an application which claims to remove malware can be problematic as they can also download rootkits, backdoor bots and other malicious files. Since this is the case, infections will vary and some will cause more harm to your system then others. Thus, sometimes it takes several efforts with different, the same or more powerful tools to do the job. Even then, with some types of malware infections, the task can be arduous.

I downloaded last Spybot, adviced by a most kind member of this forum, and I fixed the principal trouble that I have related with slow starting XP Pro with fragmentary appearence of task bar and icons; also, everything is functioning better, until now.... But it deleted me, at least, the "techguy" bookmark. It is not an important issue that cannot be fixed fastly and I hope not to continue findings deletions of this type. I think the program seems to be very good. Many thanks to the appreciated member who adviced me and kind regards.

Is this why maybe "Checking for Updates" never finishes, or that when Windows Update is opened or opens on its own, that it may tell the user, "All Up To Date"? or No New Updates Available?

I have been looking through this site, https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/search/downloadsdrillinresults.aspx?FORM=DLC&ftapplicableproducts=%5e%22Windows%22&sortby=+weight&q=&first=337
page by page, and the most recent listings are from May 2016. NOTHING more recent found so far. We may be checking for updates and expecting to be told the list of updates available, but none have been issued. No sense checking for updates which do not exist.

Just need to know if whether or not it is normal for Windows Update to include an update for skype among the list of updates.

I've already hidden this skype update as I had planned to uninstall skype for so long but kept forgetting to do it.

Any comments and ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all and God Bless,

I installed Win7 using a manufacturer disk on top of Vista (not clean install).

After that, I had about 200 important and 80 optional updates to install.

I installed about half of the important and none of the optional.

Now I am installing newer updates and checking which to stay away to prevent Win10. I looked and couldn't find any of the 10 updates in the important update list. I did, however, find some in the optional updates list.

I have been reading a lot how MS installs these win10 updates automatically, but in my case, they are listed as optional. I wonder why, is it because MS changed their policy or because my laptop is pretty old and w10 is not recommended?

Anyways, here is the list of important updates still left to install. Could you more experienced members please take a look and tell me if I should avoid any of these?

Thank you.

A:Windows 10 GWX update KB3035583 listed as optional

None of those are on my list of "to avoid", but that doesn't mean you need them all or that you won't end up in Windows Update hell for whatever reason.

I was a long and satisfied user of Windows XP, When new Windows OSs were launched, I tried them but was never satisfied until Windows 7 came out. I have been a satisfied user of Windows 7 and its SP1. Again I tried later Windows OSs, but soon left them to return to Windows 7. Recently Microsoft started to push "nagware" to entice upgrade to Windows 10, which I have tried and don't like. To avert an unintentional upgrade to Windows 10, I installed GWX Control Panel (http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/), which works well, although I check every update Microsoft pushes its nagware, sometimes even as a "critical" update.Microsoft has now announced regular roll-ups to SP1 for win 7 named "Convenience rollup update for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1", which can be found at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us... and which is said to be free of the "nagware"updates. An SP1 for Windows 7 together with this new rollup, would make a clean re-install much less time consuming.Does anybody have experience with this and what are their valuations.

A:Experience with Convenience rollup update for Windows 7 SP1?

I haven't tried the roll-up yet but I downloaded both the 32-bit & 64-bit versions on the day they were released. I plan on using them if/when the time comes for a clean install.

When I click the link (or Control Panel -> System Maint. -> Performance Info. and Tools), it takes me to the screen in the attached screenshot.

It says Last rating: 4/28/2007, which I believe is when I installed Vista.
There is no button or link or anything that I can click on to run the benchmark. I'm running a volume license copy of Vista Ultimate x64 that was given to me by my university.

I recently (re)installed a GTX260 video card in my system and loaded the nVidia 195.62 driver package. I then went into The Windows Experience and refreshed. Video scores were 7.2 - nice.
After that I noticed that there was a newer nVidia driver out - 196.21. I installed that. I then noticed in System Properties the note that I had installed new hardware and should refresh The Windows Experience. Did that. Now my video score is 7.0!
What!?

Just now I see that we have 196.34 - bug fix for overclocking GPU. Which I don't do (manually). Any relationship to above?

After a windows update this morning (not the update from 8 to 8.1) I no longer have an HDMI playback device listed in my sound options. I have since updated both my Graphics card drivers and my processor drivers, my realtec driver, and downloaded an Auto-detect driver updater from AMD just to make sure. When that didn't work I uninstalled my audio driver in my device manager, rebooted my computer, let the computer re-install the audio driver, and still nothing. All I show as playback devices are Speakers, Headphones, and 2 Digital Audio (S/PDIF). I have show connected and disconnected both checked at this screen. Any suggestions, I am really at my wits end with this? This did happen to me after I updated from 8 to 8.1 but re-installing drivers fixed the issue, but that is not working this time.

Hello all,Recently, my sister installed the fake antivirus "palladium pro" onto the system. Using a thread from this forum, I was able to remove it. However, I am still confused by a host of problems my computer seems to be experiencing...although nothing I've done seems to be able to fix it!A list would probably be easiest, so:1. The service, "Windows Audio" will NOT start automatically. -I have set it to automatic. I have set it the dependencies to automatic. -Seems to be "random" in the sense that sometimes it won't load, sometimes it will stop working in the middle of watching a movie, or playing a game, etc.2. My browser will automatically and RANDOMLY connect me to random websites that I have never seen before. -The firefox addon NO-SCRIPT is sort of helpful in the sense that all of the pages run scripts to re-direct me to google, or something else.3. The theme for my computer, Windows XP style, is RANDOMLY changed to the WINDOWS CLASSIC style, without my input. Sometimes it is IMPOSSIBLE to change back, as in the settings the windows XP theme is not available anymore...it is not even on the list. -I attempted removing the theme, but it will still change randomly. -Sometimes I can change it back, sometimes it is unavailable. -It will usually freeze up my computer to the point of manual restart.4. I am unable to connect to the windows update website. It will return "unable to connect" or "connection was reset.&qu... Read more

Having 2 different problems, one lead me to find the other so I'll try to break it down.

Window's update is on automatic but I've been having problems elsewhere so I decided to make sure things were at least up to date first. It says I have 3 major updates, all associated to a "Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.1 on Windows 7", and each time I restart to install updates it doesn't work, or when I attempt to install updates manually I get Error Code 66A. Finding the Window's update issue stemmed from a Nvidia Geforce Experience issue, which will not open. It says "Geforce experience encountered an error and must close" every time you try to open it. Discovered this problem when trying to diagnose why my framerates in League of Legends all of a sudden started to drop in combat. So considering this all started at the same time, I'm hoping its all the same issue but I doubt I'm so lucky. I've run window's fix it which failed fixing the Window's update issue and lead no where from there.

Welcome to TenForums, dbrtwo!

A few things things first, since we don't know what you've tried so far:

1) Can you uninstall the update to see if that stabilizes things? (Start / Settings / Update & security / Windows Update / Advanced options / View your update history / Uninstall updates)

2) Do you have a system restore point or, better yet, an external image backup, you can revert to?

3) Can you roll back any of the 3 drivers you downloaded?

4) Have you considered an in-place upgrade as a repair option? There's a tutorial here: Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

5) There are options to do a more effective job of running DISM but we can get to that if need be if other options don't stabilize your system.

Hi wizards,

I recently downloaded ca.25MB worth of "14 essential (Vista) updates" from Microsoft (see screen cap below); after installation and reboot the available space on C: dropped by a significant ca.700MB, which seems a little odd to me.

After an AntiVir sweep (clean) in Safe Mode I rebooted yet again, now having 'miraculously' regained ca.300MB (of the above 700).

Any ideas what's happening here?

Thanks, Novice2009

A:Why does recent Windows update hog 700MB?

During Windows Updates, system restore points are created, the Update installers/ files are added to \windows\winsxs, etc... I see nothing unusual here.

Since you have SP2 installed, you can remove SP1 related files if you wish -

Hello,

Recently, a friend of mine got the latest windows update and he turned off his computer to install the updates like normal. However, now his computer is unable to boot up to windows. It gets to the "welcome" screen and he is able to choose adminstrator or his own profile. When he chooses one, either one, it loads for only a few seconds, then shoots him right back to that welcome screen again. I've worked with him on it and we've tried safe mode and same error occurs. Then we tried using the xp cd to boot from cd. Everything was going fine, got the message "press any key to boot from cd" which we did. It did the normal by "inspecting your hardware configuration" but then it reboots the computer after doing that for like 10 seconds.

I'm all out of ideas if booting from cd wont work and we cant load windows. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE:
I've now installed all updates except KB2949927. Strangely Windows Update reports this as a critical update but leaves it unticked. Do I try installing it or not?
UPDATE2:
I tried installing KB2949927 and that was indeed the update causing Startup Repair to launch and revert to a previous restore point. I've hidden that update for now but if anybody knows of the solution to this, please let me know.

i got a brand new computer recently that came with windows 10. i had to reinstall it a few times because of issues i thought were related to the installation (plus the first attempt asked me for a key which i didn't have, the second one didn't). i didn't activate right away. i got two BSOD in 24 hours and thought it was my computer but found out online that it's windows 10's fault so i went to update windows. the update i got took so long it almost looked like a whole new installation though it said updating. when i came home i went to activate and got this message windows is not activated as your previous version of windows on this device was not activated prior to upgrade to windows 10 error code 0x803f7001.

i am nearly 100% positive that error wasn't there before the update. how the hell can i have a previous installation when this is an windows 10 oem computer?

i have pretty much had it with windows 10 because i'm pretty sure after reading online that all of my computer problems are windows related and not hardware.

A:windows won't activate after most recent update

i'm wondering if the update was bugged and it acted like a whole nother installation and that's the problem. i'm ticked because i'm having to wait forever to backup my pc so i don't have to start from scratch when i reinstall windows 10 AGAIN. if i do reinstall windows 10 which i don't see any other way then i'll make sure to activate windows BEFORE updating it. and i won't restore the backup until i do both of those things and i don't have a problem.

Microsoft - Other hardware - Microsoft Hardware USB Wireless Mouse

Installation date: ‎20/‎08/‎2012 04:07

Installation status: Successful

Update type: Optional

Microsoft Other hardware software update released in May, 2012

But when I check in Installed Updates it is not there! It was installed, it was a successful update as stated above and it has made changes to the way my mouse settings are applied. How can I get shot of this update if it doesn't appear in installed updates and more to the point why doesn't it appear? By the way I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Try using the rollback option in Device Manager, or System Restore.
You can then Hide the update to prevent it being installed again

So today windows update notified me of some new updates (about 30mb or so) and like I normally do I installed them. However, upon restarting the computer,it just got stuck at the Starting Windows boot screen. However, the animation with the colourful windows logo DID NOT show up, it was simply a black screen with the two words: Starting Windows.

I have tried the startup repair tool - nothing. Chkdsk found no errors as well. When I tried to system restore, I could see a list of previous restores, but each one of them gives me an error at the end of the restore. If needed I can post the error code and the error messages if there are any. I have also tried going into safe mode, but it just hangs at the screen where it says "Loading windows files" at the top.

I highly suspect that the recent batch of updates is the culprit, since this failure to boot rose right after I installed them. Luckily I can access all the files when I plug the HDD into a different computer, so I have been able to backup my important files. Can anybody suggest any other methods whereby I can rollback the recent updates I installed? Unfortunately I do not have a windows backup (totally my fault). If not, I guess a fresh install would be my last resort.

So, basically, their is a recent windows 10 update, which is updating my Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributle 11.0.50727. However, it's causing my computer to softlock. You see, when my computer reboots to install the updates, it gets suck while booting back up with what I like to call the "White spinning wheel of death". It's a completely black screen, with a white spinning wheel at the bottom, windows does not progress past this screen. I've had to restore my computer twice now, back to '10/26/2016', and it's getting rather annoying. I don't want to have to do this every time it updates, so, does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? The only thing that I can think of is that, recently, I made some changes to the registry to forcibly turn off Cortana. Perhaps something from that is conflicting with the update? I don't know.

Hey everyone,
I've been having an issue with a Windows 7 Update, I think it was either a Critical Security Update, or Critical Windows Update.

I had several updates to install, so I installed them, then it wanted me to restart the computer, which I did. Upon booting, I get a quick glance of the dreaded BSOD, and the computer restarts, and comes up with Startup Repair, and asks me if I wanted to use System Restore. I click yes, and after a while my computer restarts without problems, and I can actually log into Windows. A dialogue box appears, saying that "System Restore did not complete successfully, your computer's files and settings were not changed", yet that cannot be true because I noticed some software restored, which I had previously uninstalled.

I managed to find what update was causing the problem using the process of elimination, several restarts and system restores, and could install every other update without a problem.

However, a few days later, I again get the BSOD during startup. So I thought that that update had gotten installed somehow, and restored two days earlier. But this time it was not a success. I still could not boot Windows. So I restored to even earlier date, and now I could get to the Login screen. I tried to login, but it gave me a temporary account, so I logged out and tried to login again. Same result, but a restart fixed this.

Now some of my software is corrupted. (Java, Microsoft Word, Google Chrome, Skype and a couple o... Read more

I allowed the recent Windows and MS Office updates to install on my Windows 7 system this past week.

After re-booting, the Snipping Tool would no longer work.

I backed off all the updates; then reinstalled all but those three associated with MS Office 2007 security updates and rebooted.

The snipping tool was operational again.

I have not seen any other indication that others experienced this problem. I have still not re-installed the three updates associated with MS Office 2007 security.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed at this point?

Thank you.

So my Windows does automatic updates that I install later. I assume they are safe and required...probably a stupid assumption in hindsight. I sign on this morning after having done the updates last night and a new program popped up...XP Antivirus 2008.

This program ran a scan and then told me I had numerous threats on my system that I needed to address. Of course, I have to register first but, I can't do that since the email I used to "purchase" the program is not the same one I am trying to use to activate it. HUH WHAT? I go into settings and lo an behold, I can turn off the thing. Neither can I sneak into the Control Panel and delete it...seems it does not exist.

So I am going to assume that this was not part of my Windows update but, would leave me at a loss as to where it came from. Am i going to have to reformat to delete it? Nothing else seems to kill it!

I was prompted to install Windows Updates there were 2, and I restarted after finishing some work.

I was not able to access my ISP address when opening mail and My Firefox would not locate addresses for saved pages before closing, I uninstalled these dated Jan 20 09, wrote them down on a note pad, but unfortunately when closing to restart did not save them, any way to find out what they were ? I looked on the schedule but they were not there, after the restart I got reconnected ok, and have a new set of updates, I think these are the two I just uninstalled;

Security Update for Windows XP (KB851748)

Security Update for Windows XP (KB958687)

Can anyone tell me anything about these since I believe the

Hi, I am running Vista on an Acer Aspire M3641, and I have encountered no problems since purchasing it about 8 monthes ago, until the other day that is.

2/3 Days ago I updated my computer with the most recent Microsoft Update before closing down, went to my friends house, came back, turned the machine on and my computer crashed upon turning it on. The blue screen of death literally pops up for a second or 2:

http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/6483/100220101146.jpg

then a message called Windows Error Recovery appears, it gives me the option of either start Windows normally (which just restarts the computer) or Launch Startup Repair.

When choosing the startup repair, there is a couple of minutes wait, then the messege "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically"and then it asks whether or not it wants me to send info about the problem or not which it doesnt let me do anyway, but it lets me open a window called problem details:

AND:

after this I have no other option other than to click finish, and this shuts the pc down.

I have also tried tapping f8 to boot the computer up in safe mode but this also doesnt
work, i have no idea what to do, if anyone could help me it would be greatly appreiciated!

thanks in anticipation

It seems to me that a recent Windows 7 update from only about 3 or so days ago started a new problem where, for some reason, at the end of every day, between midnight to 1AM my time, (EST) my computer suddenly runs low on RAM/freezes up, the bad kind of freezing up where the ctrl alt del won't work (or the ctrl shift esc) and I have to force a reboot. I suspect the recent update because I realized it started happening after installing that, and I didn't install anything else recently.

I recently installed the latest security update for XP Pro and since my laptop hangs on startup. I did a system restore, pre-update and turned off automatic updates, and this seems to have solved the problem, at least for now. Is this a known issue, and if so, what is the solution? I am using a Lenovo laptop sl300 with lots of ultility programs running in the background and Kaspersky anti-virus.

A:recent Windows update and startup issues

Microsoft hasn't found a bug in the latest release of the security update. Because if there was, then when you restored your computer and installed the update again, the same thing would have happened again at startup. So I don't think it had anything to do with ?that specific update. It's probably the cause of the background intelligent transfer service, used for windows update, that starts up everytime your computer starts. Microsoft put out a patch for this but it doesn't work for most people. So that's most likely to be cause of your startup hang. So go to: startmenu / run / type in 'services.msc' / locate the background intelligent transfer service and stop it. And also right-click it and set the startup type to disabled. And I'm sure that has to be the problem, because that's the service automatic updates uses to download updates in the background which starts up when your computer starts. And since this problem occurred in your computer with the windows update then probably this should be the answer. You can find more information here: http://www.daniweb.com/forums/thread4497.html#?Also many other people have had the same problem and solution fixed it.Genius12

I tried to input my pwd and the line immediately filled with the letter. I thought a key was stuck but that was ruled out. I restarted and then the windows logo at startup was blinking rapidly too! Anything that shows progress moves rapidly.

I tried everything and have now tried a fresh install and can't get that to work either. Any ideas? Does this sound like an update problem?

Hi!

I installed a windows update around the 20th, and it has been causing problems ever since. I've had to run every program as administrator ever since, and even that doesn't fix all of it.

It seems to be causing some sort of connectivity issues for the launcher of League of Legends and EVE. Skype won't start normally either, and I have to go through a compatibility fix before it runs. And I have to do it every time.

I also can't revert my Windows to the day before the update, because by default settings, I can only restore it to within something ridiculous like 2 days.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I've registered for Win 10, so I check each day to see if any new updates have arrived.

Today a few times I saw error 80244019 and an update failure.

When you look up the error code you find:

Windows Update error 80070422, 80244019, or 8DDD0018

where it claims:

"If you receive one of these errors while downloading updates, the most common cause is a computer virus that has turned off Windows Update, or another service on your computer that is needed by Windows Update."
which is kind of scary.

However, trying a little later, I see things work and there's nothing new.

I suppose the Windows servers are getting jammed and thrashed around quite thoroughly.

Funny how 'Get Windows 10' may cause MS to have a denial-of-service attack of their own making.

A:Recent Windows Update Error Code 80244019 - probably GWX

I have exactly the same problem on my Windows 8.1 Pro x64 and the MS solution provided by MS doesn't work . I've also found some other solution (it actually resets Windows Update) together with automated FixIt file which claims to have corrected the error, but in fact it doesn't.

I've realized that the error appears only when updates for both Windows and other MS programs are enabled. If looking for Windows updates only (to be configured in WU), the error is magically gone and updates are correctly found and installed.

However I do believe this has something to do with Win10 updates, as I have three computers at home and another two propose me to update to Win10 from the Windows Update window, while the one affected (actually my main one ) still shows only the Win10 icon in the tray and the option to update to Win10 is gone from the Windows Update window (for others it's offered as the first-choice update and I need to select "other updates" to see available updates).

I have Windows provided by Dell installed on this machine so maybe it looks for dedicated Win10 update for Dell computers? Has anyone found a solution to this?

This request for help is for a computer at my work. It has Windows 2000 Pro SP4. I am currently home and I'm trying to recall all detail from memory, please bear with me. When I'm at work tomorrow I will be able to provide more detailed information.
Friday oct. 13 after windows did an auto update of security update kb923191, kb923414, kb924191 and windows malicious software removal tool kb890830 the computer went wacko.

It didn't recognize the printer and when they tried to do a backup through Backup My Computer it doesn't recognize the Iomega usb zip drive. Before they asked for my help they uninstalled the 3 security updates and said that that solved the printer’s problem but they still couldn't do a backup.

After I did a little rooting around I found that along with what I described above I found that you can't change the desktops wallpaper from the default blue. You can right click on the desktop, click on properties then background and choose a wallpaper from the list and click Apply and it appears that it's going to change to what you chose; the Apply becomes inactive after you click it but the wallpaper does not change. You can do this over and over but with the same results.

I also found that if you right click on the desktop and go to New you only see Folder, Shortcut and a separator line below Shortcut but nothing below. Usually there would be Text Document, WinZip and whatever but there's nothing.

Then I tried to open ... Read more

After awaking to a new windows update. I had been playing League of Legends and my whole compute would freeze. This happened twice in a row where I had to manually shut down my CPU. After that, seemingly any random act involving windows would send me to the blue screen of death.

I've seen Memory Management, and System Service Execution most frequently. Just now I had one where it didn't give me a top line reason.

After defragging, running malware programs, and a slew of other things. The problem just got worse. I was forced to do a factory reset completely wiping my hard drive. Unfortunately the problems still persist. I'm unable to DL windows updates...it just crashes to the BSOD at random. Sometimes I can get 20 minutes of runtime, others I get 1 minute.

Here are the dumpfiles from 4 of them.

A:It seems to me that a recent Windows 7 update from only about 3 or so days ago started a new problem...

well, I would suggest going to start, programs, accessories, tools, system restore, and restoring it to a point before you installed the update, and seeing if that fixes the problem.

I noticed while installing Win7 it creates a separate 200MB partition for "System features operation", I believe this partition is created for System Restore points which is great for system stability
What do you guys know about this separate partition it creates?

I also love the new boot-theme and the install time is rather awesome compared with Vista`s

How long did your install take?

A:Your Win7 Install Experience?

Strange, it did not install a separate partition for me with the 32 or 64 bit Windows 7.

They did install pretty smoothly and quick though.

[This thread is now marked SOLVED due to an effective workaround being found that allows Windows 10 to be installed on a system with a G3258 CPU.]

This thread originally addressed the Windows 7 update KB3064209 causing Windows 7 to boot to a black screen, but it was later found that this same coding was unfortunately BUILT-IN to the final release of Windows 10, thus causing anyone with a G3258 CPU to not be able to install Windows 10.

Go to the new posts (they are listed oldest to newest here) at or near the end of this thread to see my post regarding a workaround to this problem.

Original post:

Hi all,

As the title says, Update KB3064209 (Intel microcode update) from a couple of days ago (16June2015) causes my system to fail to boot after it is installed. My Windows version is 7 Ultimate with SP1 and all updates (besides this problem one). The required prerequisites for this update are met.

This update is in the 'Optional' category but if you read the details of the update it seems to be very close to 'Critical'. (Improves the reliability of the processor and Windows may not function correctly without it, it says)

I indeed have an Intel processor, the Intel Pentium G3258 3.20GHz Haswell, sometimes called the 'Anniversary Edition' Pentium.

After I install the KB3064209 Update (I have tried installing through Windows Update and also manually downloading and installing the update) my system will not boot.

It goes through POST then comes to the Starting Windows screen ... Read more

A:Recent Windows Update KB3064209 causes Windows 7 to not boot

Same here. When the Windows logo should appear, the system reboots. Safe mode etc. are also not working anymore: reboot after loading CLASSPNP.SYS. System restore to a point in time before installing the latest Windows Updates is the only working fix for me. After getting the system to work again I installed the optional updates 1 by 1 resulting in isolating KB3064209 as the problem. I'm running Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64, fully patched. System runs a Intel I3-4010U @1.70 GHz in a Gigabyte BRIX GB-BXi3-4010.

Hello people I require some help.

After Microflops recent updates this Tuesday almost all my games except minecraft (thank god) have stopped working, I click on the desktop icon and some might load to the "click to play" screen but won't do anything after that and STEAM won't load at all.

Now I've been browsing the net and I found that Microsoft decided to release 6 botched patches this Tuesday and one of them KB2859537 has been causing issues with some games for people.

So far to no avail I will add I have uninstalled the KB2859537 patch and tried to do a system restore but it didn't help as all games are still unresponsive.

I have also done a full system scan in safe mode with Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwear bites, both of these came up clean.

As I still haven't found a way to get my games running normally again I am wondering if you guys and gals could suggest anything to me as I'm out of ideas.

Also Please note it's nor possible for me to re install windows as I was never issued with the win7 cd when this system was built for me.

Thanks.

A:Almost all games and apps no longer work after recent windows update.

this doesnt really seem to be an issue as such (at least not yet), but lve noticed on both my PC and laptop that they have recently on startup started to eat ram.. and the reason lm finding it so weird is that its recently started doing it and the amount my system eats.

basically lve noticed when booting that svchost eats my ram.. on my laptop it pretty much uses 95% of the ram, l tend to average at 50% usage of the 4GB on my PC which has 8GB (until l can afford larger matched sticks) ends up using close to using around the same percentage, and l notice that it tends to be around when windows update runs on start up (or is executed manually), lve noticed a few others experiencing the issue as well quite recently on random less technical forums, so l was kinda curious if this was a wide spread thing.

tho at this second lm not overly bothered with the annoyance mainly because if l leave the system a few mins after boot the usage goes back to the levels l usually see, that said lm pretty sure this is a recent thing however because of my recent reinstall its hard to pin down to specific updates as a cause.. if l had not noticed that the ram was being freed it would bother me more.

A:curious about recent weirdness with windows update/svchost ram usage

Had the same issue myself. I believe that in my case it was caused by the latest round of windows updates that amongst other things replaced tons of important system files to fix the Freak Vulnerability. I keep disabled IE by means of a registry hack and also keep system restore disabled. Both of these settings seem to have affected windows updates installation this time round.

I did manage to fix it though. High RAM usage by svchost after windows updates usually indicates a problem with internet explorer.

What I did was roll back my system to before the updates were installed and then fixed things.

If you can't roll back your system then it might be worth trying the following but if you use Internet Explorer as your main browser let us know before going ahead.

Contol Panel > Intenet Options > Advanced > Reset > OK

Reboot.

Run IE 64bit. Show the menu bar then Tools > Intenet Options > Advanced > Reset > OK

Close IE then run Run IE 32bit. Show the menu bar then Tools > Intenet Options > Advanced > Reset > OK

Reboot.

Check for Windows Updates.

Hello Bleeping Computer Gurus & other frustrated PC users...

In Brief:

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium on a Pavillion dv6 HP laptop. I let Windows Update do its thing late last night before I went to sleep (ie: finish installing updates and shut down computer)...when I turned it on today, I got a BSOD - the details: "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal", with a stop error of 0x000000D1, and "ndis.sys" as the file mentioned. The laptop then goes into restart mode, where it goes back to this BSOD, in a loop. I used F8 to get into safe mode, tried to do a System Restore. When it reboots, it goes back into the BSOD loop. So, I enter safe mode again, and get an error message from System Restore saying that it can't finish, b/c it "can't access a file", and give me an error code of 0 x 80070005. I disable my anti-virus software (kaspersky), as the error message suggests, start all over, but get nowhere. I have run scans to test the memory, all is fine. I can't get networking to work in safe mode. I can't get /scannow to work in safe mode. I can't manage to utilize the suggestions I've found on the web b/c I can't run windows normally, just in safe mode.

HELP. ME. PLEASE.

Thanks.

Lost HD Audio on Assassin HTPC! Was it the recent Windows Update?
All of the sudden I have lost my HD audio output on my Assassin HTPC with ASUS Graphics Card and AMD chipset. I can see audio on the level meter but nothing comes from the speakers. I know if is not the TV or the Onkyo Tuner. Once in a while when playing in the speakers panels I receive the following error message which I have not seen before: "The device is being used by another application. If you continue, that application may stop working." It does not matter is I answer Yes or No, I still get no sound.

I've searched online and it appears others started losing their audio around the time of the July Windows Updates. I was on a 7 week trip then so all of my Windows updates may have gotten loaded when I returned home last week! (When the problem started).

I have already removed all the Windows updates back to before the July ones and shut off auto updates. I have already attempted removing and reinstalling audio drivers. I am at the PONR (point of no return) where I will need to do a total system recovery from disk unless someone knows of the solution. Was this caused by a Windows update as some maintain? And does anyone know how to get around this? After all I have about 8 weeks of great TV recorded that I cannot watch. (Thank God I can still plug in my HD laptop into the TV and watch downloads, albeit without surround sound, or else I'd be going nuts)

Anyone???

A:Lost HD Audio on Assassin HTPC! Was it the recent Windows Update?

What audio are you using, the HDMI Audio or the PC Audio? Two different items. In most cases the HDMI audio is generated by the sound chip on the Video Card and with HDMI audio, the PC's audio is not used.

Instead of uninstalling the updates, you really need to do a System Restore if you have one available.

I had to use that today, I had installed the WPS Suite of office programs (used to be called Kingsoft) and it corrupted my MS Word and Outlook. I uninstalled the WPS using Revo Uninstaller Pro which also scans the registry for left over entries and allows for deleting them. After a system reboot, I still had the corruption problems caused by WPS. Fortunately I had a System Restore point that was before I installed WPS and that fixed the problems.

Hello all,

I am having a problem with by machine after a recent windows update. There were 3 updates, one was SP1. After that WMP 12 will not play any mpeg files. It just hangs and has to be killed with the task manager. I have tried all the fixes I could find including the FixIt routines from Microsoft. So far nothing. Anybody have any ides of where I might start looking?

Thanks

Have you tried a plain reinstall. Uninstall from Control Panel, then delete any remneants in Program Files if there are any. Then either download an old version like 11 or 10 from a non-Microsoft site OR just re-download 12. May work.. If not I suggest a new media player like iTunes, WinDVD or VLC.

Can you roll back to before the update? That would confirm if it's the update itself or the reader.

Go to the Control Panel/Sound. Highlight Speakers Make sure this is your Default device for sound. Click the Configure/Test.
You can also go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, Right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers, right click your Sound device/Properties/Driver/Roll Back Driver to roll back to the driver that was working.
Or you could do a System Restore to a time when it was working.

Hello All,

I was using my good old dell inspiron 15r SE with windows 10 since technical preview.
Since months it was working stable. Unfortunately after recent bigger update of windows 10 I face strange issue. Keyboard seems to randomly freeze. No information in event log, nothing. So far my only workaround is to reboot.
My current windows version: Home 1607, compilation: 14393.351
Thing I"ve tried so far:
- switching between tablet/desktop mode - helped once (probably by chance)
- uninstalling keyboard drivers (helped for couple of days)
- activating/deactivating key filters - no difference
- plugging in/out external keyboard - ext. keyboard works... after unplugging build in keybord stars working or not...also randomly

One hint: during freeze touchpad is not working, but touchpad mouse keys work fine O.o. Also backlit seems to freeze as well

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
Thank you for writing to us!
Kindly check you are able to update the drivers on the system and if there are any pending updates. This should most definitely be a drivers issue, hence downloading the drivers on the system should help with the issue.
We would also need to keep in mind if the system is tested for windows 10 and if there are drivers for the same.
Kindly private message the service tag and email address.

My other devices (smartphone, tablet) still see it and can connect with it just.

My problem is not an option when using toshiba.com/sos and there is no direct way to contact Customer Services at all.
Also Windows ships me off that the problem would be my drivers.

So far I've downloaded and installed it any updates available, but it still doesn't work.

I was pretty hesitant about jumping onto Windows 7 since I was still running XP. But I couldn't resist the idea of using the next Windows free for a year so I downloaded and installed 7100. I am now up to 7201 and wanted to post what apps I am using successfully. Bear in mind I am using 64-bit also and my principal computer usage is for home admin, email, web use, watching videos/movies, listening to music, controlling my BOSS GT-10 guitar multieffects controller, and a bit of 3-d gaming in COD4.

Unless noted otherwise, all of the following apps are installed and working fine.

7-zip 64-bit edition - WinZIP alternative

Adobe Reader 9.1.1

BOSS GT-10 driver - installed in VISTA compatibility mode - 64-bit driver for BOSS GT-10

CCleaner - system cleanup tool. Cleans IE, Chrome, and log files OK. Does not have ability yet apparently on either Win7 or 64-bit to cleanup hotfix installers like it can on XP

Creative Audio Drivers 2.18.0013
Creative Console Launcher 2.61.09 - these both support my X-Fi Extreme Gamer just fine

Diskeeper 2009 Professional - alternative disk defrag - nice and zippy installed in 64-bit mode

DU Meter 4.01.R3076 - bandwidth meter - installed in 32-bit mode

Google Chrome - installed itself in 32-bit mode

We just ran the latest windows 7 updates on multiple windows 7 professional 64bit computers. Once the update runs, the machine boots to the ctrl-alt-del screen for login. If you hit ctrl-alt-del, a black screen appears. Then after a
few seconds (5-30) it bounces back to the login screen but it is entirely blue - no option or login. Each time you ctrl-alt-del, you get the black screen then back to blue. Same thing with safe mode, safe with networking, command prompt only etc.
This only appears to happen with auto logon disabled.

I've got multiple 64 bit machines that are doing this. We believe that we have a 32 bit machine in the field that is doing the same thing so I'm not sure if it is truly limited to 64bit. These machines are all running from a 'ghosted' image
that we have been using for at least a year with no issues.

It appears, after running the updates one by one, that kb3097877 is the cause of the issue.

Anyone experience anything simular?

Try restoring to a point before the updates to see if they were the cause of the connectivity problem and I think that the one you're using at the moment could have an infection.

Hey all.

Hope someone can help me. I've searched my way through google and seen a lot of people with this problem but it doesn't seem to have happened to anyone except myself directly after the Feb 13th update for Windows.

After I update and shutdown, when trying to boot up the PC again, it will get to the Windows 8 logo with the loading graphic, then at the point where it would usually display the start menu (as always after booting, do not have a login on boot set up) it will just bin out to an intermittent flashing black screen, it flashes about ever 3 secs. If I click with the mouse then the cursor appears and stays there until the next flash where it disappears until being clicked again.

The only way around it that I have managed to find so far is to hit F12 on the motherboard splash screen to get into the boot menu. After changing absolutely nothing on here (I'm not savvy enough to fiddle around in a BiOS, I do networks not pc tweaking!) and simply exiting it, it will then give me the "Windows failed to boot properly" screen and allows me to system restore from there. I can restore back to the 8th of Feb before the update, and everything is absolutely fine. So, I did that, and sure enough after a day or so when I went to shutdown it asked me to update and shutdown again. I did, to see if the same thing would happen, and sure enough it did. So I've had to restore back to the 8th again and lose any work/files I've done in the last day.

If your problem seems to be specific to one update, what update is it? We can see if any "known-issues" are published.

Till then, visit Windows Update manually, and select Check for Updates. Then, from the list of updates, right-click the one that is producing the problem, and select "Hide update". Then exit Windows update.

You can always later try that update, after enough time has gone by and Microsoft might have released an updated version that will fix its bad side-effects. [you'll use the "restore hidden updates" option to see that update in the list agaiin].

Best of luck

I just installed some new windows updates last night on my laptop, and this morning when I turned it back on, my Japanese language bar was moved to the left hand side of the toolbar, and any window I open also goes to the left-hand side of the screen. Whenever I got on the internet, the minimized window also went to the left hand side of the toolbar. If I open another program and minimize that, it goes to the same spot, and I have to use the arrows for scrolling that appear to view all the different windows.

I got the language bar back to the right side of the screen, but I still can't re-arrange the windows so I can see everything at once.

Is this normal, or is there something wrong?

I have Win XP Professional and I'm on a Toshiba Satellite A70

A:Recent Windows Update: New Minimized Windows?

My apologies, folks, it seems to have fixed itself. I went home and after restarting and hooking up to my wireless Internet there, things look like it's back to normal. Sorry if I caused any problems.

Happy holidays anyway!

Just looking to see if anyone else has seen any issues with the updates offered for Windows 7 that would have been installed around 4/16/2015 at 3 a.m. on a system setup for auto-updates and restarts. Looks like mostly Office 2010 updates, .NET Framework updates and a few Window 7 security updates:

Almost exactly 24hr after the 4/16/2015 at 3 a.m. install came ~20 blue-screens over the course of a day till I rolled back updates. The funny thing is I have seen intermittent blue screens on other Windows 7 machines running on this same ESXI host, and they have no PCI-e devices passed through to them. The Windows Server 2012 R2 and Linux guests have not been affected. The crashes increase in frequency when the system is under load it seems. All the blue-screens point towards n... Read more

I'm running windows xp home edition version 2002, Service Pack 3. My display device is NVIDIA Geforce4 Ti 4400. I installed Windows XP update KB967715 and after I rebooted, once windows xp started, my display flashed about 6 times then went dark. I'm able to use the internet via safe mode. I've uninstalled this windows update and all the ones from Feb: KB958687 and KB960715. I've also reinstalled all my display drivers.

The error messages I received are:
Error code 100000ea, parameter1 835d17e0, parameter2 83465008, parameter3 f79aacb4, parameter4 00000001.

Error code 100000ea, parameter1 834f74d0, parameter2 834ea768, parameter3 f42ffcb4, parameter4 00000001.

Error code 100000ea, parameter1 82dac4f0, parameter2 834b4b10, parameter3 f79aacb4, parameter4 00000001.

I'm at a loss, the next options I can think of are re-installing Windows XP and I'd rather not if I don't have too.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks!

A:Installed most recent Windows update; display no longer works except in safe mode

Hi Rachel and welcome to TSF

You didn't say, but I'm assuming that after the uninstalls the problem is still there.

Try doing a system restore to a time before the updates.

If you can boot in the safe mode and get video, then it must be something that is booting up in regular mode that is messing up the video. Before doing a re-install, look in the msconfig and see if something was installed there that might be the culprit. Under the start tab, the check boxes will let you selectively disable applications that install during normal boot. See if one of them is problematic. What each of those items do can be seen here:

http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

Do you have any red or yellow marks in the Device Manager? That almost always means a device driver problem.

If you have to resort to a re-install of XP, I would suggest a Repair Install which will leave your normal applications and data in tact. Guidance for that can be seen here:

Hope this helps,

This is a custom-built desktop that has been running since 2014. No recent changes to hardware (only change ever might have been RAM addition). After years of updates, recently started getting the notices with 0xC004F200 error on startup. Screen is now black with Build 7601 Windows is not genuine notice. I believe that I still have the COA, but will have to look. Though I didn't build it, I trust the guy who did. Any help is warmly welcome.

I'm having the same problem - start a search and the autocomplete list shows but clicking on an item nothing happens. However, if I type a search in the address bar the autocomplete does work but the search results shown are from Bing.
Using FireFox, Google autocomplete works correctly, the problem only happens when using IE9 (works fine using IE8).

I have searched everywhere on the Internet, including Microsoft Support and Community, for a solution to this problem. I am looking for a way to clear the Recent Places list. I can clear Recent Items. In fact, almost all of the solutions for clearing Recent Places that a search turns up actually clears Items. But nothing does a mass clearing of Places.

I can right-click on the Recent Places icon in my task bar and the right-click on any single place, then delete that. But then the next visited place just scrolls up into view. Nowhere can I find an option for clearing all recent places in the list. I have tried searching for Recent places in the Start Menu, in the Explorer Location Bar and elsewhere, but every option that eventually comes up applies only to Recent Items.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks...

CCleaner cleans out "Recent Places" (on my PC).

Remember to examine the cleaning options before running it.

Before the recent update, in windows update ?Advanced Options? screen, I selected ?Notify to schedule restart? so my PC will not restart by itself after an update, as mentioned in this article How to Schedule Restarts for Updates in Windows 10

Yesterday after windows update, ?Notify to schedule restart? is missing (see screenshot below). Now the PC will restart automatically after a Windows update. I have unsaved documents lost when it restarted by itself yesterday.

How to get back the ?Notify to schedule restart? option? I only want to manually restart my PC after an update. Thanks

A:Win update “Notify to schedule restart" missing after recent update?

Hi, how do you get it back? It's changed slightly. You need to go back one from that screen, click restart options.

Note there is also now a 12 hour max 'active hours' period you can specify which stops restarts in that period.
