Dell Audio doesn't work on my Dell computer

Q: Dell Audio doesn't work on my Dell computer

Dell Audio doesn't work on my Dell computers but Realtek does. Why is Dell Audio on my computer if I can't get it to work? It looks like a better program with far more features.

I completed the set-up of a new Dell Inspiron 3647 using a small extra monitor (NEC ) After moving the unit into its final location, I connected to a DAEWOO F207 monitor I had been using with my previous machine (Dell GX260). However the monitor only displayed a black screen. I then tried a Samsung 710MP monitor that also works on my Dell GX260). Again, monitor only displays a black screen. The GX260 is running XP Professional versus the Inspiron which has Windows 7.New machine doesn't have (or couldn't find) drivers for the old monitors?Compatibility issue with the video card?

A:Old monitor doesn't work on new Dell

if you are using an older CRT type monitor with the new machine...its possible that it cant support the minimum resolution of the new PC???

I invested a couple of bucks in a used Dell monitor at a garage sale. I did not expect much but I figured WTH, it was worth a try.

A 17" flat screen Model172FP, on power on, the screen gives a display for a few seconds then goes black.

Self test on power on - no connection to computer:
Feature Check' dialog box appear on-screen (against a black background) for a few seconds then screen goes black.

Connected to computer with computer powered up.

Computer brand flash screen appears for a few seconds then screen goes black. I tried this on both an HP and a Compaq computer. Their respective logos appeared for only a few seconds then nothing.

Think this display is worth more investigation or is it ready for deep six ?

The LAN connection worked fine fine up till a few weeks ago but now I can use the internet through wireless connection only.I tried turn off the wireless connection & connect the modem to my laptop using the LAN cable...didn't work. I used another cable (i thought the one I used before was faulty). It still doesn't work & I can't see the LAN symbol either. Is the LAN port broken or something? what should I do?

A:LAN doesn't work on my Dell laptop

In your BIOS screens, look for 'On-board devices'. Click it open to expand the options, look for 'Integrated NIC', select that. Select the option 'enable'.
Press F11 (save and exit). That should make the LAN icon appear in your taskbar, and let you connect your pc to the router via a CAT5E cable, and the 'net.

Hi everyone,
I've a problem with a DELL Inspiron N5110.
When I turn on the laptop, the fan is working for 15 seconds then it turns off by itself.. but the Windows boots properly and the other components work fine.
I know that I can't use my laptop if the CPU fan doesn't work because it will overheat the cpu and the motherboard so..
Could you please give me an opinion ?
Thank you

A:Dell Inspiron N5110 CPU Fan doesn't work

The fan will spin at powerup self test time, and then won't come on (or run at full speed) until a temperature setpoint is reached.
Depending on who replaced the mainboard, verify that the thermal pads were replaced when the heatsink was removed from the system.  If that part was not replaced, the system will run very warm.

I have an Inspiron 3847 desktop with Windows 7 64-bit as the OS.
Recently bought Rosetta Stone which requires a microphone to use and the computer will not allow the mic to work. I've checked all places where the mic could be muted and that is not the issue. I've turned the volume all the way up and that didn't help.  When the mic is plugged in and I check the audio devices it says "Realtek High Definition Audio Default Device" regardless of what make or model of a mic I use.
I looked this issue up online and the problem appears to be a setting in the Realtek program itself as I found a fix on Youtube where someone else was having the same trouble. The issue I have is that I have no access to the Realtek program as I get "Dell Audio" coming up every time I try to access Realtek.
I've tried updating the drivers, I've tried deleting the drivers and installing the Realtek ones from their site and neither works. All I ever get is "Dell Audio" which doesn't help me at all as nothing in the program can rectify the microphone issue.
Can someone please tell me how to get the  microphone working? Thanks in advance.

Hi....All

I recently bought Dell Inspiron 14R N4110, which came only one default partition (C:\) with Windows 7 Home Premium.
But later on, I did one more partition (D:\), and I installed all drivers(which comes with Dell laptop). but some how my internet is not working properly. Sometime its too slow and not connecting.

I reformatted the laptop, and Restored the modem/router to factory defaults (in that order) neither helped. But if I restored my laptop to factory default (which I don't want, because it has only one partition C:\ ), than everything works fine. Why its happen ?

I hope that you people will be a big help.
I greatly appreciate your help.

Thank you.

Dell Dimension 2350
Pentium 4 1.80GHz
1GB RAM
XP SP2

I have not used this computer for about a week, and now when I turn it on my keyboard doesn't work. It is a generic keyboard that came with my Dell.(Mouse works fine until I try to type, then freezes). I went into Device Manager and there was a yellow sign indicating a problem with my keyboard. I tried to update driver, but there was no newer version than the one installed. Device properties indicate that "this device can not start. (code 10)". I don't know what code 10 is. Tried to uninstall, and reinstall... nothing.

So, naturally, I tried a different keyboard (the one I know is good) and this one is USB (wired Natural Ergonomic 4000 by Microsoft) and it installed fine. According to device manager, it works properly. However, still can not type. Tried to connect it to a different USB port; that didn't help either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Installed the optional hardware to enable duplex printing when this printer was USB attached to my Dell laptop docking station while it was running XP Pro. The printer functioned flawlessly...duplex feature as well.

Wiped drive clean and installed Windows 7...couldn't find any Windows 7 native printer drivers, but used 32-bit Vista drivers and printer utility application. All works well, still USB attached, but the duplex printing option is not available as an option. Verified that the duplex-enabling hardware was still installed, turned printer off/on a few times...no success.

Can anyone direct me to Windows 7-native drivers for this printer and/or enlighten me as to how to enable duplex printing under Windows 7?

Thanks...just trying to save a few trees if I can

A:Dell 2130cn printer - duplex doesn't work

In the Dell printer 2130cn properties; Option tab, make sure you have selected the "Duplexer" as available. Once available, you will be able to select it in the preferences menu.

Hi GuysI recently purchased a second hand XPS 13 and everything has been running fine until this morning. I ran ADWCleaner for general maintenance, the machine rebooted and loaded back into Windows without issue. Shortly after, the laptop started beeping over and over again. I tried rebooting only to find that the laptop won't load Windows and doesn't load past the Dell splash screen. There is no beeping during bootup. Also, I am load to setup or boot selection screens after pressing  F2 or F12. The laptop appears to register if I have selected one of those two options but will not load after the Dell screen progress bar has reached 100%I have stumbled across a couple of posts on the internet suggesting that the issue maybe motherboard related ?Does anybody have suggestions on what I can do to resolve this issue ?Thanks in advance.

A:Dell XPS 13 (2013) doesn't load past Dell splash screen

Hi CAPTAINSPRINGS,
What is the exact system model? Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter?
Download the service manual - http://dell.to/1n3X2po - enter the service tag and download the manual and disconnect the adapter and battery and press and hold the power button for 30 seconds and try powering on the system with adapter only / battery only and check.
Based on your system model, check if you are able to remove and reseat the memory modules if possible.
Disconnect the HDD and check if the system goes past the Dell logo.
Try the onboard diagnostics - press and hold the fn key + power button to turn on the system and it should initiate the diagnostics. Check for any possible beeps codes.
If nothing works, then I would suspect a faulty motherboard.
If the system is under warranty, Please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name, Phone#, Address and Email). If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
Let us know if you have any other queries.

I have an Inspiron 7520 and uninstalled and reinstalled the new version of Dell Backup and Recovery Manager -- upgraded to premium to make sure that I would have full ability to use the program. Note: the old version didn't work at all -- hung up on backup, etc.
I have rebooted.
When I try and open the Manager interface, I can't. All I get is the clock logo with the hand spinning. I cannot set the destination. I cannot select what I want to back up. I've tried this several times and just get the spinning clock which I end up ending through Task Manager.
I have tried opening the Manager from the installed link on desktop, from my list of programs, from the Start menu, and from the tray icon. Nothing works.
Any suggestions?
Nan

A:Windows 8 Dell Backup and Recovery Manager doesn't work

I have the same issue with the non premium version, I made the mistake of upgrading to v1.0.0.4 that is available for download and now have the same spinning clock, the program never loads so can't do anything with it. I have tried twice now to uninstall and then reinstall but still the same issue with spinning clock.
This is on a brand new XPS 8500 running windows 8. The reason I tried upgrading is that the version I had would not create recovery disk on usb key (would take forever to see the usb key and then would fail with pretty much useless error message before writing anything to the usb key, all it would do is format it to something that could no longer be read by windows.

Hello. I have this odd problem in my Dell Latitude D520 core2duo where one of the memory slots isn't working anymore. Just yesterday the Laptop would not startup but lights on the front panel came on, so I suspected a memory issue. The D520 has a slot underneath the keyboard for memory, as well as underneath the laptop. When ever I put memory in the slot under the keyboard, it won't startup. I tried various memory known to work. I even took the memory from underneath the laptop and placed it under the keyboard because it worked underneath. But once I placed the memory in the slots under the keyboard, it would not startup. I would just get three green lights next to the power key. One stayed, the other 2 blinked; they all eventually stopped entirely. Once I removed the memory, it would start up. I tried cleaning the memory slot with an air can. I've never encountered this before. For now, I just run with 2 gig memory stick underneath the laptop. It works fine. I am assuming a motherboard issue. Any suggestion greatly appreciated.

A:Dell Latitude D520 memory slot doesn't work

Sure sounds like the socket is bad, or the memory controller. You may have to live with a single DIMM in the bottom slot.

We've plugged into it all of our USB Drives & an IPod Touch & it doesn't respond to anything. Their are no errors in the Device Manager & scanning for hardware changes doesn't change anything. Hi...I'm not sure where to put this request, thought since the Dell Inspiron 15 is running Windows 10 (including latest update) that there might be a conflict between the desktop and the keyboard down in the nuts and bolts somewhere. I can turn the machine on, the capslock light comes on, SOMETIMES the keyboard works well enough to input the pin to get the desktop booted up. Sometimes I have to go through steps to get the touch screen keyboard up in order to input the pin. However, as soon as the desktop is active, the keyboard no longer works. I've updated the drivers, don't know what else to do. When I try a search online for a solution, I get differing ideas on how to solve the problem. I've tried resetting the BIOS to default settings, that didn't work. Any and all help will be much appreciated. I really need the keyboard to be working, my kids do their homework on my laptop.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just wanted to relay a little experince I had with a refurbished Dell unit here at work. I ordered a Dell Studio 540 refurb and when it arrived I noticed the analog inputs/outputs weren't recognized in the realtek audio manager. It wouldn't notice any devices plugged into either the front or the back panel. It did recognize the HDMI and Digital inputs.

I uninstalled drivers, installed three different drivers with out any luck. Each time, I uninstalled the device, rebooted, installed the drivers, and rebooted again. These drivers were the latest Dell drivers for Windows 7 x64, Realtek drivers for Windows 7 x64, and even the Realtek Vista x64 just in case. After using Dell tech support (they did exactly what I had already done), they sent out a tech to replace my motherboard.

The tech installs the moterboard, boots up the machine (after configuring the cmos) and we notice the analog jacks are now showing in the Realek Audio Manager. Ok we're making progress. We plug in the speakers in the rear jack, the little pop up says a device is plugged in. Seems to be working. We play some audio, and nothing. We plug in my earbuds into the front jack, pop up says they are plugged in, green audio jack is no longer greyed out in Audio Manager, but still no sound.

Now I'm pissed, this is a new motherboard. I start uninstalling the drivers, and install from a new download from Dell. After the reboot, the pop ups start going crazy, the system thinks there are audio devices plugged in all... Read more

it's actually my mom's problem.

i re-installed windows from scratch to see if that fixed it.

but the modem works FINE in XPHome, but then seems to disable itself in XP Pro.

Dell tech support cna't figure this out.

i don't know what to do with my mom's new PC

she's been running it fine on XP home

but when she upgrades to Pro, all hell breaks loose.

We use a broadband ISP (direcway....ewww i hate it, but it gets the job done when you live in hicksville usa....lol)

but you need to activate it (and activate windows) via a modem..and we use dialup as a backup ISP.

my mom can run fine in Home, but she want's Pro to work.

The previous driver allowed for edge scrolling but latest version does not have the capability.I understand for those upgrading to Windows 8 with touch screen capability this is not an issue but what about us who do not have touch screen. In my opinion this is a major flaw. Please let me hear form you if you too are unhappy about the new Windows 8 Touch pad driver. By the way, I tried rolling the driver back but the previous driver causes serious erratic behavior. Below is a screen shot of the version for the newest Windows 8 Touch Pad driver.

This problem appears on Windows 8.1

A:[Dell touchpad] one finger scrolling feature missing on Windows 8 doesn't work

Try this:
1) Go into c:\program files\DellTPad\
2) In this dir I have
  a)  DellTouchpad.exe: this is the app called from control panel whose picture you posted.
  b)  DellTPad.exe alternate utility to set touchpad setting. When launching this I have this option (translating into english) "one finger actions/multi-finger actions", and then it allows you to set single finger vertical/horizontal scrolling.

I then started Startup Repair and it performed the checks, but my computer still wouldn't start. I then tried System Restore which didn't have a backup. I clicked the link to create a backup, but it said 'Your computer is running in a limited diagnostic state'. I have tried running the Windows Vista disk and it doesn't change anything. Just got the replacement charger for my laptop I ordered a few days ago. As I'm sure everyone reading this knows, on the Dell site, this little item costs about $140. Went to Amazon and paid $30. Plugged in the charger at both ends, powered up the laptop and got a message about it not recognizing it, blah, blah, blah. I selected continue anyway. Obvious point #1 - the laptop is working. Point #2 - hovering over the battery icon in the task tray says "70% available, plugged in, not charging."

So, just curious. The adapter even says Dell on it. I just didn't buy it from them. Knock-off? And of course my main question, is it going to work? Did a forum search before posting and I can see this isn't a unique situation, I'm just wondering what's up? Is this like a nag screen or am I actually going to have problems with this adapter?

And, it's late, I've had a shot or two of whiskey, so I have to say - you guys are the greatest! I love the internet. Middle of the night, I have a question, and I know right where to go to find a room full of people who know what I'm talking about. <read this with a slur> I love you guys hic-cup...

Would Dell Factory restore DVDS work after Dell replaced the motherboard? I haven't tried it because I have the dell re-installation disk, just wondered if I ever need to get rid of this computer. I am planning on keeping the computer as long as possible. Just for information no activation was required. I didn't have to use the OEM key on the back of the computer.

A:Would Dell Factory restore work after Dell replaced the motherboard?

With dell's the key is intergrated with the os. If they replaced with same motherboard then I do not see why it wouldn't.

I am constantly having this problem with my laptop. As I plug in and unplug my headphones throughout the day, I've noticed that after a couple times the bass gets really quiet and almost completely drops out. Since I have some pretty decent audiophile headphones with really great bass, it is super annoying and noticeable.
One workaround I have discovered is to go to the audio settings (either in Windows or the Dell Audio app), and switch the Default Format (the thing with 24-bit, 48000Hz in it)  to something else, play some audio, then switch it back.
A little word on my setup: I have the latest drivers from the Dell download page installed. I am running Windows 10 64-bit with all the updates. I have Waves Maxx audio "enhancements" disabled. My Default Format is usually set to 24-bit 48000Hz, but the problem eventually happens no matter what I set it to. The "headphone size" option is set to "Medium", but as far as I can tell this option does nothing if I do not have Waves Maxx enabled. Switching it also does not fix the problem.
If I play audio using WASAPI (this basically means that the music player takes over the sound card completely, and bypasses whatever audio processing Windows and the driver has) the problem does not happen.
How do I fix this problem? It's incredibly annoying, and most likely has something to do with the audio driver, since this does not happen in Linux, and it did not happen when I was runn... Read more

I am trying to turn off the speaker enhancements in the preinstalled Dell Audio bloatware, and the program will not let me turn them off. I have clicked the toggle next to the speaker enhancement, but it automatically switches it back on again. I am able to turn off the microphone enhancement, but not the speaker one. Is there anyways that anyone knows how to correct this?

A:Dell 15 7559 and Dell Audio enhancement issues

Try refreshing the driver.Open device manager- expand sound video – right click on the audio driver & click on uninstall (do not check the box that says delete driver)Restart the computer & check if you can disable the option. If the issue persists, download audio driver from www.support.dell.com ( enter your service tag)  download & install audio driver.

Would any of you please tell me where to find the proper 64-bit drivers to use on a Dell Inspiron 531S?

The official Dell website does not share drivers for that edition of XP. My computer came with Ubuntu pre-installed. Please help me get the right drivers XP Pro (64-bit).

The only reason why I'm searching for 64-bit drivers for XP is because I have no interest in using Windows Vista or any 32-bit operating systems from Microsoft. Like I mentioned before, the Dell website is not offering the proper drivers I need for this computer and the Windows XP (64-bit).

I've read articles about getting 64-bit drivers to work on that computer, but I haven't found any website that offers the same drivers. I'm basically on my own, according to this Dell expert (see below). That person told me about the drivers without sharing 1 single link to download the 64-bit drivers (or chipset) for XP, which he/she mentioned:
Dell does not support 64 bit in that model and the reason there are no drivers. You are basically "on your own" to try and find suitable drivers.

However, if you installed the Chipset drivers, Windows should either install a generic driver or find suitable drivers.

The correct install sequence is (1) Install Windows (2) Install chipset driver (3) Install Device Drivers.

On Intel systems the chipset drivers define what is on or attached to the motherboard. I assume the AMD drivers do the same thing.Click to expand...

A:Dell site won't help me. How do you get XP Pro (64bit) to work on Dell 531S?

Hi there

The very best database for drivers is DriverGuide.com . You need to create a free account to gain access.

What the tech suggested was installing enough drivers to get your networking to work and then letting Windows find all the missing drivers automatically using the now working internet by selecting the option "search for drivers automatically" when installing the devices through the add/remove hardware applet in the Control Panel.

After doing a clean install of my computer about a week ago (Windows XP Home Edition) my Dell speakers won't work at all, in WMP and on websites, such as YouTube. I installed the driver from Dell Support but they still don't work. Everything is plugged in properly and the green light on the right speaker goes on, but no sound at all comes out. NOTHING. I looked around in Audio settings and everything seems to be in place. The speakers aren't muted or anything. Could someone please help me solve this problem? Thanks!

A:Dell Speakers won't work on Dell Dimension B110

Check your connections again. We've all plugged in the PC connection to the wrong port from time to time.
If that's not the problem, uninstall the driver in Device Manager and reinstall.

I recently bought a cd writer and have found out it was originally meant for a dell computer - mine isn't a dell though.

The writer manual is here - http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/storage/p60335/en/index.htm

The machine is just some clone I picked up at a garage sale, it works really well except that the cd writer quit recently. It has an MS- 6738 motherboard and duron processor running Ubuntu 10.04 currently.

Will the dell cd writer work in it? So far I'm having no luck but I'm new at this so I wasn't sure if it was my error or simply not going to happen

My computer froze up last night and I had to unplug it. I cleaned the hard drive with an air can before I started it back up. It seems to be working well. But today I noticed the audio didn't work.

While checking it out I clicked Advanced Volume Options and got this message, "There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware."

So I do this, Add Hardware Wizard pops up, and that's as far as I've gotten.

I don't know if I need to download something to install or reinstall something that is not working properly. It seems like I had this same problem a long time ago but I can't remember what I did.

Any help much appreciated.

EDIT: Rewritten for clarity
On Realtek ALC3861 Audio Driver (ver. 6.0.1.7525, A00) for Windows 10, there is no longer a button labeled "Show Meters" under Speakers/Headphones > Maxx Audio Pro in the bottom right corner (please see attached screenshot). This button in previous versions of the driver for Windows 7 opened a new window with sliders to balance front and back speakers in a surround sound setup.
What I did:
Updated my OS from 7 to 10 and updated the Realtek audio drivers accordingly - to the above mentioned version.
What I expected:
The "Show Meters" button would be present in the newest Realtek driver.
What really happened:
Upon upgrade to the newest driver, the "Show Meters" button disappeared.

I have reinstalled the newest driver multiple times with no avail and tried the driver from Windows 8.1 and the default driver from Realtek with worse affects (Dell Audio window is missing most elements/drop down options, etc)

If anyone would know how to address the issue, if this is intentional, or who to escalate this to, I would appreciate it.

A:Latest Version of Dell Audio is missing "Show Meters" button. (Windows 10, Dell XPS 8700)

I feel that I should be more observant. In Control Panel > Sound > Playback > Select the Realtek device > Properties > Levels there are the exact changes I need. I don't know why I didn't notice until now. Could explain why there was no "Show Meters" button in this release but I thought Windows 7 also had the same leveling and there was the leveling in Dell Audio as well.
I'm still going with a new sound card from Creative however, seen a super nice $70 one that looks awesome and seems to have features to match.

So over the past 2-3 weeks I kept noticing that my battery kept dying even though I would shut it down (yes window > shutdown) the computer with a full battery. The next evening I would power up and see that the battery was at 20% from full charge. This is a BRAND NEW as in <2 months XPS 9550. I checked my event log and WHAT THE H@#$??? The short version of my question is exactly what the topic says-- Can I install a Dell-provided OEM version of Vista on a non-Dell computer?

But, here's the wordier version giving context, if anyone's interested.

About 10 months ago, I guess, I got a Dell Vostro that came with Windows Vista Home Basic. However, I had no interest in Vista (because I already had a Windows machine) and the very first thing I did was install Ubuntu on it. I still have the Vista reinstall disk, though, which, to my memory, hasn't been used.

Now I'm planning on getting a barebones system and upgrading what I see fit. For the time being, I'm going to use the Windows 7 RC, but I'd like to get the uber-great upgrade deal that they're having to pre-order either the Business or Home Premium version upgrade. So, to do that, I'd need an XP installation or a Vista installation. Is there any reason, legal or software-related, that I wouldn't be able to install Vista using that disk that came with the Vostro?

I heard somewhere that sometimes if you try, it'll say something like "This is not a Dell computer, you evil, evil person" and refuse to install, so I wanted to make sure before I pre-ordered the upgrade. I don't want to get the upgrade and have nothing to upgrade, of course.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with Windows Vista OS. I have a Dell 926 printer interfaced to it via USB. Printer driver is installed and the printer does communicate at times with the computer and does a good job printing. However, intermittently when trying to print a document I'll get a message on the computer that says that communication has been lost and print job failed.

I've checked all connections to make sure they are solid and no debris that might cause this.
That has not corrected the problem.
The other thing that happens is that the document I want to print will stay in the print queue/spooler and if I shut the computer and printer down and restart both it will print the job. And it may continue to print jobs but it's just a matter of time.

Needless to say this is frustrating. I can print several jobs in a row with no problem and then I'll get this "communication has been lost between printer and computer". And I have to go thru the procedure above to get the last job printed.

My wife doesn't understand how this works and will try to print the same job several times with the commo problem and then complains when it won't print.....and then they all print when the above procedure is followed.

Any ideas what is going on??? Any fixes??

You will have to go to the dell website look under support and then drivers and downloads for your model of computer. If you use the service tag number on the computer it will make sure you get the correct ones you need. For future reference so you wont have this hassle again burn all of the drivers to a cd so you will be all set the next time.

My Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't recognize charger any more. And unfortunately my warranty expired 2 month ago.It was plugged in and working in the morning, but then in the afternoon I noticed that it was running on the battery only. It wont start without battery (just charger plugged in).
1. So here what I have done to debug. Me and my brother, we have purchased the same Dell laptops at the same time a year and a bit ago. This is why for a debugging purposes it was good.I took my charger and plugged in to his computer. And it works. Definitely not the charger issue I guess. And when I plug charger in to my computer, green light is still on the charger. And I have the original charger that came with the laptop.

A:Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't work with charger. Charger is not recognized. Not charger problem.

Hi CJ777,
Thanks for reaching out with your query. You pretty much figured out all points of failure. Good job.
If the adapter is not detected in BIOS, it most likely is an issue with the mother board. In the BIOS set up, AC adapter should show up as 65w or 90w. If the adapter status is 'None' or 'Unknown Device Installed', it indicates that the mother board is not detecting the adapter for which the battery is not getting charged. Once the battery charge drains, I'm sure the adapter will not charge it again. Replacing the system board should resolve this issue.

Alright here's my situation:

I have a Core2Duo PC running Vista Home Premium 32 bit, hooked up to my TV using a HDMI cable. This has been working fine for 2 years now. Yesterday I decided to add some more RAM to this PC (4 GB instead of the standard 2 GB to be exact). I know 32 bit will only read 3 GB but I was thinking of upgrading to Windows 7 64 bit later.

Anyway I booted up the computer, worked fine of course, even watched a movie or two without problems. Then this morning I booted up the PC and I suddenly noticed the volume icon saying that there were no audio devices detected! I checked under Hardware and there are no audio devices whatsoever! So my HDMI cable is still giving me picture but no sound! Seeing as I'm using onboard audio I immediately booted into the BIOS and although I couldn't find a specific option that said onboard audio I did see something audio related being "HDA" (I assume HD audio) on automatic, the other option was ACRealtek97 or something. However it was enabled so no luck there.

Does anyone know how all of a sudden my HDMI cable isn't providing audio anymore? I even checked my Nvidia card which also stated that HDMI audio was enabled.

I hope anyone can help me, thanks in advance.

How can I uninstall Dell Audio and only have the legacy Realtek Driver and Software in my XPS 14 (L421x)?
I installed some time age the default audio driver that I got from "Dell Drivers", this installed the "Dell Audio" + "MAXX AUDIO 4". I already uninstalled this thing, run CCleaner, deleted the folders, and downloaded and installed the legacy Realtek R 2.73 driver, but this thing (Dell Audio) is always installing with the driver.
My system audio is ridiculously loud. I need to put my system audio in somewhat 5~15 / 100% to get "normal audio", the only way I get realistic "normal audio range" is using my SteelSeries Wireless Headset with USB, this way the system audio goes to 100% automatically and I control the audio with the scroll located in the headset, even in 100% max audio, I get a "normal 100%", it's loud, but not EXTREME like the notebook audio!
Another problem, when I plugin my Apple Earpods, they simple doesn't work, I already tested them with tons of devices at home, and they are working great. The system doesn't even recognize them.
I think that everything would be resolved if I could install the Leagacy Realtek drivers & software, not this *** loaded with bloatware from Dell, I don't care about "MAXX Audio", "MaxxSense" and all this BS. Hi all,

I'd be grateful for any advice to my problem....

Last month I bought a new PC, a Dell XPS 8500 with an Intel Core i7-3770 processor. The PC has onboard audio (Realtek High Definition Audio).

I didn't buy new speakers as I have a perfectly usable set of Creative 6.1 speakers.

My problem is that although my computer plays Windows event sounds through all the speakers, applications such as iTunes only emit sound through the front pair.

I have googled the problem and as a result have configured the Realtek to use 7.1 audio but without the side pair.

Also, I have disabled the Realtek driver and have reloaded by asking Windows to select the best available.

But still the problem persists.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

First, for proper operation you must use the Dell supplied sound driver. Non-Dell will either not work or install or will not work properly, and that includes the basic function Windows installed HD Audio Codec.

6.1 is an oddball speaker configuration for current technology systems, its either 2.1, 5.1 or 7.1.

I used to do a lot of support on the Dell users forum (community) and recall that certain applications will only play audio through "stereo" speakers only. My experience on the Dell forum (I had over 37,000 posts and am still registered) also is the reason I note the Dell supplied sound driver.

You could also post on the Dell community Desktop hardware section and one of the user experts there may have more suggestions.

sorry for bad grammar.

A:Dell doesn't recognize hdd?

Check your BIOS at boot... depressing either F2 or F12, and change the boot order... then boot to the Dell Windows disk and re-do.
If that doesn't work, you may have a bad cable or a bad cable connector... change the entire cable and connector.

I've never changed the settings, but my new Dell with windows 8 doesn't like to wake from sleep mode. Sometimes it wakes OK, sometimes I have to do a power off shutdown then restart. Has anyone had this problem? If so, how did you fix it? Thanks.

A:My Dell doesn't like to wake

A common problem for resume/waken failures are Windows drivers. Updating to the latest drivers possible can fix this problem, but as Windows 8 is rather new it may be a while till you get updated drivers for all your devices. Your best bet is to check the manufacturers web sites.

I own a Dell Latitude E6430.   I am looking for a Dell Companion 12000mAh or 18000mAh type of device to power and charge my Dell Lattitude E6430 when I am traveling (no outlet available).   When I view the compatibility list for both the Dell Companion 12000mAh and the 18000mAh I don't see the Dell Latitude E6430 in either list.  I went and purchased the 12000mAh and I am attempting to use this to charge and power my Dell Latitude E6430.  It powers my Dell Laptop for about a minute and then quits.   Is there a solution for this problem?   And/or is there another Dell Companion type device that I can purchase that is listed as 100% compatible with the Dell Latitude E6430?   I would like to either get this solution working or purchase the product that is listed as 100% compatible.

No sound will play in most applications. Winamp will not play music. Internet explorer(with quicktime plug-in) will not play music. Also, a game that I tried to play would not play audio.

However, when I tried playing sounds in Finale Notepad and Windows Media player, they both played.

Under the tab of "Sound, video, and game controllers" in the device manager, this is what's there:

HID-compliant game controller
Riptide Audio Device
Riptide Bus / Firmware Downloader
Riptide Gameport
Riptide Input Device
There are no red x's or question marks, and I checked the properties of each one, and it says everything is working fine.

My speakers are fine, because I plugged in headphones that I KNOW work, and it did the same thing, and plus, my speakers work with my portable cd player. Not only that, they work normally with the two applications that function.

Help please?

The Year 2007 is turning out to be a bust! My Compaq Presario S6000NX was serviced once by a cottage-industry computer tech, and it worked marvellously up until recently. My audio's all-of-a-sudden dead. Even if I hook-up my headphones directly into the tower's jack -- no sound.

I'm positively trembling with fear!

I've already tried to contact the tech, who had worked on it before, but he apparently changed his cell number, and to add insult to injury, I only knew him by one name!

If the problem is ((shudder)) hardware, are Compaq pc's known to blow something 'audio' on the inside?

How big is it? Only next month can I afford to haul my baby off to a store to get it fixed.

Please help me. I'm on disability, and whatever income they (government) throw in my general direction is pretty-much used up long before I cash the darned cheque!

Thx!

have you tried reinstalling your audio drivers? Or maybe perhaps even reinstalling directx? had that same problem on a friend's puter and reinstalling directx helped...

Have just acquired a Dell Dimension 4700 desktop with a SATA HDD. Am trying to add an optical drive and a IDE hdd. No matter what combination of jumpers (CS, Master, Slave, etc) and cable cable connections (first or second connector), none of them have been recognized. Have tried 4 CD drives, 2 DVD drives and 1 HDD. No cigar!

What gives? Thanks.

A:Dell 4700 doesn't see CD, DVD or HDD IDE Drives

Before starting the thread, I had checked the Device Mgr to be sure that the IDE controllers were working, which they were, and so it did not occur to me, given this my first SATA computer, that IDE might not be enabled.

I was poking around in the BIOS Setup fishing for anything and, lo and behold, they were not enabled. And so enabled them and that problem solved.

However, iat does beg the question, exactly what is the ide controller vs enabling IDE?

While I am at it, is it possible to use an eide to sata converter so as to have all my old ide devices running under sata? If so, does this apply to ide optical and hard drives?

Thanks.

Hi

I have a Dell C521 in for repair and isnt booting.
it gives 2 short beeps and one long one. (incorrect bios checksum?)
followed by one long and two  or three very quick bleeps.
a few seconds later a lower 2 tones that hint a bit like "oh dear" or "no go" bit like the Simon electonic game when you fail!
the disgnostic LED is showing just 4 and no other LEDs iluminate at all.

I assume its had a faulty flash.
Is there any way to reflash as it seems to be in a recovery mode awaiting for a bios perhaps?

A:Dell C521 doesn't boot

Are you saying you did a BIOS flash update right before the problem started?
You can try clearing BIOS:

Power off, unplug
Press/hold power button for ~15 sec
Open case and remove motherboard battery
Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
Reinstall battery - use  a fresh one if this one is old, CR2032 3-volt lithium ion battery. ~$2 at discount stores
Close up and reboot.

Alright, I've had this computer for a few years now and its worked perfectly up to a couple nights ago. I wasn't even here, i was at work that day and came home. When i went to get up the next morning and play, it wouldn't boot. Now the weird part is, when i boot it up, it goes to the boot screen sometimes, and it will say, keyboard failure, system battery failure, floppy drive failure (don't have a floppy drive) Sometimes it will boot and crazy **** will appear on the screen. Like just weird colors and textures.

After booting up, the power button is green and the number 4 is lit, and it also looks like the number 3 is faintly lit for some reason. when i manage to get to the boot screen, the computer just goes black after i select go to the bios, or after keyboard failure press f12, it dies again. but if I try again, it just boots to a black screen and doesnt even go to the logo.

Anyone out there who could help me with this problem? i'm hoping its just a system battery problem, but i think it may be more.

I have a Dell Optiplex gx1 that has motherboard problems before which was replaced. Now my Dell doesn'r even show the bios splash screen. Peripherals such as CDroms and HardDisks light up (the HD even shows some disk activity from a hard boot). However keyboard lights don't switch ie. boot up never gets to the plug n play part of the boot up sequence. Of course I tried booting from a cdrom and that's a no go.

How could that happen? I did not install new hardware or recongure the box in any way. Can anything in the OS affect the BIOS? How do I diagnose the motherboard?

Any help would be appreciated..

I have a three years old Dell Inspiron 530 desktop (no warranty left).

Couple of weeks back what I did:
1. Suddenly the CPU fan started speeding with noise
2. Opened and cleaned the video card (ATI Radeon) fan which accumulated some dust
3. Also cleaned the CPU fan and put some thermal paste between CPU and fan base which was almost dry
4. The fan speed and noise was gone (fixed) and everything worked fine again

Two weeks later... new problem encountered again:
1. The computer doesn't boot up
2. When power turned on (front switch), the keyboard and mouse LEDs flashes momentarily and stay turned off
3. The front power switch stay solid blue

4. No beep sound heard (beep code is HERE)

5. CPU fan speeds with noise (as experienced before)
6. Monitor stays dark (tried also with the onboard video monitor pins), nothing come up (no BIOS, no DELL logo, absolutely nothing)

Test done so far:
1. Did CMOS reset (followed exact instruction as documented in the Inspiron 530 user manual from DELL): No luck = no boot, no monitor, no BIOS, fan speeds
2. Removed all peripherals (ATI video card, HDD, CD-Drive, Multimedia ports, ethernet card): no luck
3. Removed all memory cards: I could hear 2 consecutive beeps (according to DELL document: 2 beeps = no-memory found error)
4. Inserted memory card once at a time and turned on power: 2 beeps stops but no-luck
5. Connected all peripherals one at a time and tuned on power: no luck
6. HDD is OK (checked the HDD connected with another comp... Read more

Two beeps mean no memory is recognized.  If you hear this with or without the memory installed and have more than one memory module, the mainboard is bad.

I have a machine with a problem - it's a Dell XPS 600 running XP (sorry, guys, about posting in a Win7 forum, but I couldn't face the beargarden that is Answers!)

The machine runs fine, and there are no errors in Device Manager (aoart from the usual parallel port one).
The NIC is seen by DM, and reports as being properly installed., and appears in the Network Connections page.

But it just does not seem to see the network at all.

not-connected message abound, and there's no apparent attempts to connect through it.
It's an onboard NIC, or I'd just swap it out. (I may add a card anyhow)

A little history - the machine suddenly failed to boot with a BIOS fault indicating that perhaps the CMOS battery had died, so the owner brought it to me.
When it arrived, there was no sign of any booting going on apart from various lights. Turned out that wiggling teh Graphics card brought the video back online. It seems that somehow, the default RAID got switched off in BIOS, which is what resulted in the boot error, and once i'd got that sorted the system booted fine - but the NIC problem appeared.
Client tells me that it's not a known problem with the machine.

Any bright ideas for testing? (I've already checked the Ethernet cable and that's fine - connects in no time flat on another system)
I'm going to try a Bart/USBCD boot next - will post when I have a result.

A:Dell XPS600 - NIC doesn't see any network

OK - never mind......
UBCD didn't even see the NIC.

BUT!
I downloaded a new set of drivers from Dell and forced and install, and that seems to have done the trick

I have no idea what my sister and her friends were doing on the comp for a couple of days that i decided not to use it, but now:

- a few programs take forever to load or don't load at all, but they do show up under the processes tab in the task manager
- after pressing Ctrl Alt Del, the task manager icon appears in the system tray, but the thing only shows up a minute later
- my system recovery is "not able to protect my computer," and restarting does nothing
- actually, when restarting or shutting down Windows, it stops at where it only shows my desktop background and cursor [which is still able to move] and nothing else after that, so i have to hold the power button and force it to shut off
- when I right click the desktop and click on "Properties..." [or something similar to this action] it doesn't show up at all, and whenever I try to open any application after that, they don't even load at all either
- and probably other stuff that I haven't took note of yet...

Things i've tried to get rid of these problems:
- Virus scan with avast!, a couple viruses found and fixed, but nothing changed.
- disk clean up, nothing changed
- registry clean, nothing changed
- CURRENTLY defragging my C drive, hope something changes..

Anyone know what the heck's going on!?
Anyone got any suggestions on what to do next?
Anything helps and would be greatly appreciated!

anyway, just stopped by to say that when shutting down, it takes forever to get to the "Saving your settings..." screen, and that's where I decided that it stops and nothing else after that.

Hello Guys! Please excuse my english

For the last few days i've been trying to solve my problem,

I'm trying to record Stereo Mix sound, but it just doesn't work, my motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H.

I have enabled it but when I go to settings of the Stereo Mix the volume is "stuck" I can't raise it, it's just stuck on 0.

It worth mentioning that I also have 2 other sound cards, Asus Xonar DG and Focusrite Scarllet 2i2.
When recording the DG Stereo Mix there is a weird buzz in the sound, also I have tried different drivers for the motherboard but still no success.
My headphone feed is via my Focusrite Scarllet 2i2 which also provides my mic singal to the PC. (I don't use the DG anymore it's just laying in my PC ).

So what do you guys think?

A:VIA Audio Stereo Mix doesn't work

I have a recording studio using Sonar X2 Pro and a Roland Octa-Capture, that I use ONLY for recording.

I have basically the same motherboard, except I have a Gigabyte GAZ77X-UD5H.

If you are using the internal (on the motherboard audio), physically uninstall the DG sound card. Two sound cards can conflict and cause problems. Also, disconnect the Focusrite unit (for testing) and only have the VIA audio and then see if the recording works properly.

thinks to note are that i have 2 ports on my computer, one to the motherboard and one on the front panel of my computer, i have tried it in both several times, fiddled with the mic settings, i've also set the vista sound to headphones out as default but nothing works. No matter what i do i get no sound through the headset. I am using the 3.5mm plug in things, pink and black, as the usb converter did not come with my headset.

what the hecks wrong? im on vista.

also, even when it is not plugged in, in the vista sound options Headphone and mic are in still there.

As the topic says; my mic does not work with Realtek HD Audio. It used to work, because I have used it in the past with success...but then my PC crashed and it hasn't worked since. Realtek's audio manager recognizes the mic when it is plugged into the front or rear jacks, but it simply doesn't work. I've heard it is normal that the record function in Realtek's HD Audio is greyed out, but that still seems kind of stupid to me, either way I can't control anything as far as the record function aside from the main volume control...what it does, I don't know, if it does anything at all. I'm using a Koss SB-30 headset with the colored plugs for both the mic and the headphones, I don't have speakers, and everything otherwise plays fine (music, game audio, movies, etc.). I just can't use the mic.

A:Realtek HD Audio -- Mic doesn't work

if the system detects it but it doesn't work have you tried it in some other device?

Hello,

I have a Dell Latitude D800 laptop that's about 3 1/2 years old. It no longer charges or even recognizes that it is plugged into the wall. Luckily, one of my roomates has the same laptop so with some experimentation, we were able to figure some stuff out. My battery and AC Adapter are fine, his computer acts completely normal and even charges my battery when using them both. My computer runs normally except for the fact it only runs off the battery.

I unknowingly ran my battery all the way down; it would not charge. I put the battery in his computer, charged it, and now my computer can continue to run off the battery. I was told by a friend that there was probably something wrong with the power supply on the motherboard. I just wanted your input before seeking repairs so I know what to expect. Do you think the repairs will be lengthy/expensive? Do you think I'll be able to find a place to repair this Dell laptop without having to mail the laptop to Dell? FYI: my warranty expired about 6 months ago. Thanks and happy holidays.

A:Dell laptop doesn't recognize it's plugged in

Its possible the jack on the back of the laptop is broken where the adapter plugs in, that commonly happens. If thats the case it may just need to be re-soldered on or the jack be replaced. That shouldn't be a very expensive replace. But if its something else then it likely won't be worth fixing, ie. the motherboard.

Dear all,

I have had this laptop for over 3 years now and I found that one day, when I switched it on, the HDD light, the num, caps and scroll lock lights all lit and then 2 seconds later, they stopped. The power light was left on however. I could hear the fans spinning but nothing booted. The hard drive light was not blinking either, indicating operation. I did some research and tried the PSA alternate boot method (pressing FN and power ON) and there was a led code:

Num lock - flashing
Caps lock - ON (continously)
Scroll lock - OFF

I have tried removing all the components and powering on one by one after removal but this did not work either. I reseated the RAM modules as well in different places but to no avail. I also tried booting from AC supply only with the same results.

Can you help me find out what happened to my laptop? I would be very grateful for ANY response on this urgent matter.

Cheers, Fishpan

A:Dell Inspiron 6000 doesn't boot up!!

I would think that this is a problem with the operating system. I'm not 100% sure, but however, if you want to check, get an hard drive enclosure for $10 - $15 on newegg. Then unplug your hard drive and plug it into the enclosure and plug the enclosure into another computer and see if the OS files are intact. You could also plug your hd into another laptop and see what happens, if it boots, then the problem is not your hardrive.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530S with a built in Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN mini-card. I have a Linksys router (WRT320N). This computer runs VISTA Home Premium (32 bit).

This computer connects to the internet fine as long as it is hardwired to the router. However, it doesn't "see" any networks when I try to get it to connect to the router "wirelessly".

I have 2 other computers running XP that connect to the router fine so I know the router works fine.

The card works fine (I have been on chat with Dell technicians for hours and a technician came to the house this week and verified the card is fine).

It must be a software problem on my VISTA computer but I have no idea what to try next (short of reinstalling the operating system).

Any ideas would be appreciated.
