Hello, first of all I am sorry for my bad English. Now about my problem. I have Dell Latitude 3350 laptop and everytime I search for drivers updates in Dell command update, Intel chipset device software update appears. I installed it, it says "succesfully installed", I restarted the laptop and then it appears again in Dell command update. Details of update: Version, A01, release date 17 Jun 2016, filename: Chipset_Driver_320CP_WN32_10.1.1.9_A01.EXE. Filesize 10 MB.And the same problem in Dell shows again and again Intel management engine components installer, version,A00. Filename: Chipset_Driver_78C1C_WN32_11.0.0.1158_A00.exe. Filesize: 98 MB.So can anybody help me to resolve install problems of these updates, please? Thank you in advance for you reply.

Hi all,
I have a Dell XPS13 9350 - only a month old. Everything is wonderful so far but Dell Update software sometimes does not pick up on new drivers. The other days, BIOS 1.4.4 and two new thunderbolt drivers and firmware were uploaded to the Dell website. I ran Dell Update but it did not download those and said my computer was up to date. Yes, I can go to the website and download them manually but the Dell Update software is very convenient. Any thoughts?
Thanks all,

A company called TweakBit is relentlessly downloading software to my DELL Inspiron, informing me that my laptop has over 240 errors and offering to fix them if I purchase and install their software. They use the DELL trademark and also state that they are a Microsoft Partner, Norton Secured (using Microsoft and Norton trademarks), and are "100% Satisfaction Guaranteed" by an unnamed agency! They offer a 24/7 support number. I called the number and a man with a heavy Indian accent told me he knew nothing about DELL, Microsoft Partnership, or Norton! I found and deleted the TweakBit software installed on my laptop on 4/1/16. I removed it. It reinstalled on 4/2/16! Is this really a DELL sponsored product? The Geek Squad says that it is a scam! I purchased my laptop at Best Buy on 12/24/15. The undocumented software DELL had installed on the laptop downloaded malicious software from the internet! I had to perform a full system reset TWICE to get my computer to function properly!
I used to have great respect for DELL. NO MORE! How dare you deliver products with undocumented software installed! I have lost all confidence in DELL and I will never buy another DELL product! I wish I could return my Inspiron. It is an insecure device. I no longer trust it! I no longer trust DELL! I an going to contact Best But to see if I can return or exchange it for something trustworthy.
I took screen shots of the TweakBit pop-ups which clearly display the DELL, Microsoft Partner, and... Read more

A:TweakBit Software is downloading to my laptop posing as DELL software! Is DELL aware of this?

Hello Sir, I have already replied to the same post you left on Facebook, but would like to repeat my message here.
We are sorry you had a negative experience with your computer that involved TweakBit products. I would like to clarify a couple of things so there are no misunderstandings. TweakBit does not come pre-installed on Dell computers and does not get installed automatically without user consent. We are in fact a Microsoft Gold Application Development partner and we do use Norton to test our software and certify it as virus-free. The only place in our software where you could have seen a mention of Dell would be the section that contains information on your computer system. Our software displays your computer brand, model and specs for your convenience, as many users have no idea where to locate this info when faced with the need to do maintenance on their computer or to call support.
I can assure you that TweakBit software is neither malware, nor does it contain any malware. We take customer safety very seriously and work with every complaint until the issue is resolved to the customer’s satisfaction. Our software comes with an unconditional 30-day money back guarantee, so if you purchased any of our products and did not like how they worked, you can submit a request at for an immediate refund.
We did have some issues with certain anti-virus programs flagging our software (hence most of the negative feedback on the web), but these we... Read more

I just remembered to update my system specs for the extra info about my laptop, and I figured I might as well announce the good news for any poor wanderer searching for such info. A few months ago, I installed Win 7 32-bit on my Dell XPS M1210 ultra-portable laptop, and everything has been wonderful!

The laptop itself is from 2006, but at the time I maxed out the specs, and have since taken the best care of it, so it's running perfectly. I'm pretty sure 7 is even faster on it than XP ever was. All of the drivers automatically installed immediately while the OS was installing itself. The only thing I had to install myself was my Synaptics touchpad, so I could turn off tap-to-click, which otherwise was working as a normal default touchpad should. The system also bugged me about installing a driver for my SD memory card reader, but it actually worked even without it. What really surprised me is that my nVidia GeForce Go 7400 was able to do dual-screen without any further configuration! I still haven't installed the extra tools for it, but as I have a behemoth desktop with 2 screens, I do that work here, and the dual screen on the laptop is only used anymore for watching movies on the TV. Since I've figured out HomeGroup, I usually stream movies from my desktop in the bedroom to the laptop plugged into the TV in the living room. Not a single issue. All in all, 7 on this laptop is awesome!

A:Report for Win 7 Pro x86 on Dell XPS M1210 Laptop

Thanks for the success story!

Your story is especially heartening since it's still not fully sunk in that Win7 is driver-complete in the installer and via optional Updates with few exceptions. Many still following XPired methods think they have to change out all their drivers like chipset and run into problems. Win7 is the authority on its own drivers.

I seen a post asking about syncing but wanted to make sure it got out to all and posted a new thread instead or replying.

I am thrilled at the end results of this freeware.

Its free for the non-pro version and works fantastic between my Vistax64 desktop and my x86 laptop. I'm a wired LAN @ Gigabit.

I have succesfully sync'd my Favorites, Documents, and Outlook.

I started out simple with Favorites and documents and it went so well I hunkered down and did the Outlook.

All my syncs were at the default both way synchronization <--->. You can do it anyway you want.

The outlook is a little less than simple having you go in and configure an outlook folder to share. Its all in the FAQ how to do it. Basically you have to setup the share folder on the machine you do not have the software installed on.
I just reversed the instructions where they had the program install on the laptop and setting up sharing the outlook folder on the desktop. I wanted it the other way around.

You only have to have the program on a single machine.

It worked syncing my emails and contacts perfectly.
Even better there is an option that takes you right to windows task scheduler so you can schedule the sync's if you like. It takes you right to the spot where you choose the time and hit apply.
I tested it with AllwaysSync shut off and it came on and sync'd at the scheduled time. Obviously both machines have to be running and logged on.

The first time you do it is a little n... Read more

I have a concern / problem  with Dell RACK workstation R7610 and R7910.
I am using the Windows 7 32bit OS on these system which are installed with 8GB physical memory.
Even if the system has 8GB system memory the Win 7 32bit OS will reports lesser than the 3GB (i.e.) 1.91Gb only.
I understand that 32bit OS can’t go beyond 4GB and at the max it may report 3.6GB but in these systems it is not even reporting 3GB which is really concerning a lot for them.
It looks Dell has published some sort of on these for T7610 notification  but I couldn’t find any such stuff for R7610 & R7910.
Is there anyway can we get these system reports 3GB memory on Win 7 32bit OS?

My ISP (Qwest) has repeatedly blocked my internet access due to malware/bot detection over the past 3 months.I have 5 computers on my network, but Qwest is not able to tell me which one it is coming from. I will submit a separate topic for each computer. This one is for a Gateway laptop running windows Vista Home SP1 wireless to the router. When this started happening, I was using ZoneAlarm Extreme Security only for my computer security. My ISP (Qwest) has suggested many different software solutions, which I have implemented and scanned with. They include Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, TrendMicro RUBotted, BotHunter, Microsoft Security Essentials. I have also received information from several local computer techs to use MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, AVG free and Avast Anti-virus. The last one I spoke with said everything Qwest has suggested is useless as is AVG free and ZoneAlarm (except maybe the firewall). He recommends MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware and Avast. Quick scans by any of these programs find nothing. Full scans produce adware cookies, but nothing else for the past month+. I pretty much run a full scan by one of them each day and remove anything that they find. Here is the most recent log Qwest sent me of the detected Bot activity. This is the first time I have heard that it is Torpig, which I guess is an infection of the master boot record, which can cause all the other programs to not be able to detect it.Date & Time (GMT) Source Port MW TypeDate/... Computer maker Dell is asking for help in an ongoing probe into the source of customer information that appears to have somehow landed in the laps of fraudsters posing as Dell computer support technicians. KrebsOnSecurity readers continue to report being called by scammers posing as Dell support personnel who offer “proof” that they’re with Dell by rattling off the unique Dell “service tag” code printed on each Dell customer’s PC or laptop, as well as information from any previous (legitimate) service issues the customer may have had with Dell.

I've seen reports in the past where Windows users said that the Action Center in Windows 7 was showing that their security software (antivirus, anti-spyware or firewall) was not installed. However, it was installed and working normally.

The following Microsoft KB article explains the reason why the security software is not recognized by the Action Center.

Cause: Due to a change to the Security Center interface for ISVs, some antivirus, antispyware, and firewall programs could be incompatible with the Action Center in Windows 7.

New APIs were introduced in Vista SP1 that implemented new API's. More information on this case be found at the following link:

Upcoming Action Center Changes for Security Vendor Software

If the application vendor does not use the appropriate API's, the Action Center will not show that the product is properly installed.

Resolution: Please contact the antivirus\antispyware\firewall vendor for a newer version of their software.

This is an odd issue, which I thought I should bring to the attention of the Dell team somehow.
I installed the A03 bios for my XPS 13 a few days ago, when it was pushed out to my laptop. Immediately, I started to get the 'repeating keypresses' issue that a few people have reported. Button presses, especially to the spacebar, started to appear twice when the button was only pressed once. This was an intermittent issue - I'd roughly estimate it was one keypress in ten, if not less.
Surprised, I rolled back the bios to A02, then to A01, then to A00. Only on rolling back to A00 did the problem resolve itself. I'm currently running the A00 bios and the problem is gone. Which is fine, as I didn't have any complaints to begin with, but it's rather odd that a bios update breaks things rather than fixing them.
I'm aware this is probably not a widespread issue (otherwise I would have read more complaints about it) but I thought the team should be aware.
Many thanks.

So First off, I am sure most of you who are looking at this will think it is an easy fix, and trust me I wish it was. I have spent the entire day before this post searching for common fixes to issues, with no luck.

First off, here is the scenario:

I went go get on my PC that has been running flawless since December 2010, and the first thing I notice is it came back from sleep or idle, whatever you want to call it. This seems to happen now and then and I believe it happens because windows installed an update over the night (Wednesday 2/27/13). Normally this is no big deal, I go about my way and all is fine.

So I noticed that some open files I was working on in excel have duplicates, one set is read only, one is not. I closed all that down and we were all set. The other big thing is the Aero feature was dead. So I went online and hit ALL the usual fixes, running the diagnostic, downloading the specific MS diagnostic tool, resetting the service multiple times, restarts, even some registry updates I found. NOTHING worked. The interesting thing is the only part of aero that is not working, is the glass feature, and the peek feature. All the mouse icons and other attributes seem to be working.

I have an Nvidia GTX 460 card, so I updated to the most current form of the drivers, nothing. I delete the drivers and install the original CD drivers, nothing. I then delete the driver and try to use driver sweep to remove them. This is when I notice that I can not boot into safe mod... Read more

Hi Everyone, first time using here;

Ok, I need a macro so that when a cell = 0, a Msgbox comes up giving the user the choice of Yes / No / Cancel and then finds the appropriate cell in a second workbook named report to record that response in.
Below is what I have so far, but I dont have an idea how to fill out
the second part.
If No is Clicked, I need the cell 7 columns across and on the same row as the client name to have an "N" entered in the second workbook t:\quote report\report.xls sheet database. If Yes is clicked I need the macro to do the same thing only enter a "Y" in that same column matching the client name.

At the moment the sheet contains about 500 client names, in a year up to about 7,000

Cell J6 on the original Sheet1 contains the client name.

Sheet is not sorted alphabetically.
Sub Message_test()
Msg = "Client Has Been Marked as Expired"
Response = MsgBox(Msg, vbYesNoCancel + vbQuestion, Title)
If Response = vbNo Then
MsgBox "you clicked no"
Exit Sub

End If
If Response = vbCancel Then
MsgBox "You clicked cancelled"
Exit Sub
End If
MsgBox "you clicked yes"
End Sub

Cheers for any help

I'm having a big problem with displaying a linked ole object in a report. I'm trying use a dynamically created unbound sourcename. It's a pdf - which can change based on the batch number, and stored in a static folder. I store the filename in a field of a query, which is the source of the form and the report.

I do not use the same code as you, but the big question is where do you trigger the "Private Sub CallDisplayImage()"?
It should be in the Report Footer's "On Format" event procedure, or the code itself should go there instead of in a procedure.

My AMD Catalyst Software Suite has a Software Update on my Laptop. The problem is, every time I try to install it, it says everything installed. I then head back to see what version I have, and its the same one as before. If I click on the software to install it again, it says the same thing and doesn't install the latest software.

A:AMD Catalyst Software Suite (Software Update)

It probably detected, that there is a new version, but since it can not be installed on your system, it skips it.
Your GPU is not supported anymore, so you can just disable update checking for AMD drivers.

I think, that the latest driver supporting your GPU was 15.12 beta, not Final, but I found only:

iTunes 12.5x will not install on my Windows 10 desktop. I download the latest iTunes version and then get the error below, multiple times.

I read up on the error. The recommendation to cure the problem was to go to Programs, Uninstall, but instead Repair the Apple Software Update application.

I tried that, right-clicked to Repair ASU, but then I got a message saying that ASU was already uninstalled. I cannot now find Apple Software Update application to re-install it. I've looked all over the Apple and Windows download systems. No luck.

Can anyone help me with this problem ?

EXCEL 2010 : Worksheet grey; worksheet names(bottom of screen: missing) WA
Running Windows 7 on Dell XPS 17 L702X laptop (shipped: 28th February 2012)
I have a financial type spread sheet containing more than 10 worksheets. I update the file 5 or 6 times per week, saving file each time ie …..fred10Jul16a…..fred10Sep16aI   I have been using this spreadsheet for over a year.….
When I open any of these files the worksheet names do not appear at bottom and the worksheet itself is grey (solid) when I expected to see my actual text.
This spreadsheet is also sent through internet explorer (11) to a colleague.
The problem also shows up on email : yahoo ; SENT ; DOWNLOAD (OPEN)
The NAME BOX contains a valid cell reference (F1) and changes to valid name of one of my worksheets when clicked by mouse
This problem appears to have started around 16th September 2016.
There were Windows Updates done on 14th September
If I go into 'info' I can 'print' which shows 'print preview' which is OK
I can also do 'find' which produces expected result
This grey problem occurs on ALL  the above named files (in one particular folder/library) fails on file produced in March
I have other different spreadsheets in other folders which appear not to be affected
The problem disappeared whenever I selected FULL SCREEN.

I have big trouble with my two units of Dell Precision 7510. I want to disable "Switchable graphics", because some OS do not support two graphics simultaneously. So, I have unchecked "Switchable graphics" in the BIOS settings, restarted and... display is gone. Notebook is working (system is booting in the background), display is back lighted, but nothing appears on the display. I have checked BIOS 1.10 and 1.20 on two units with identical configuration. I have been checking many times with different BIOS configurations. Always disabling "Switchable gprahics" makes system unusable.
In fact, I have successfully booted up one or two times with "Switchable graphics" BIOS option disabled. In that case the Intel P530 graphic card was disabled totally and AMD FirePro was running perfectly all uptime. Unfortunately, it was one or two times. 99,9% attempts were unsuccessful. When I disable "Switchable graphics" and restart, I get without-signal display. The only solution is reset BIOS setting to default by removing and putting back the coin battery.
Could anybody confirm that issue? My hardware configuration is Intel i5-6300HQ, AMD FirePro W5170M, 1x16 GB DDR non-ECC and UltraSharp IGZO-Display Ultra HD.

A:BUG REPORT: disable "Switchable graphics" make Dell Precision 7510 unusable

I also have almost the same issue with it. What I found out by now - if energy saving is on, you can let windows start (to the login screen that you don't see), close the display (enable standby), re-activate it, and mostly the display is coming after that. I never had to reset BIOS (v1.20) to make it work again.
As the screen itself is turning on (background led), i think the issue is about the connection from the AMD FirePro W5170M card to the display when switching is enabled. IGP isn't experiencing this issue at all.
What's also part of this issue is, when IGP is disabled, the display is flickering from time to time in Windows (Windows 7 x64). This issue neither changed when I updated the driver, nor was it affected by installing Catalyst.
At last I also saw 10-15% performance differences between the two modes (even if the application was run by the AMD GPU).
Our configuration is Intel i7-6820HQ, AMD FirePro W5170M, 1x16GB non-ECC, also with the UHD Display.

Hoping someone can help. I have a report in access based on a query. In the query I am sorting sales data by customer by category and calculating a few fields. One of these fields compares sales data for say September this year with last year. In my report have added further text boxes in various footer fields which sum this september variance over a series of account items and then in a footer field for the customer. I have created these footer fields by using the "Group/Sort/Total" field at the bottom. What I can't seem to do however is sort this data by the customer based on the calculated field.

Unfortunately I can't seem to upload/attach files to this post either which adds to my dilemma.....

Dears,I have designed a database with many reports of certain importance. basically a report in my DB is one of two types; a Daily Report (requires a single criteria which is the date) and the second is a History report. To view or print a report, I have designed a Filter form to fill in with the report criteria and clicking a button to open the report. The first type (Daily R) work fine without problems. The second type (History R)has a problem. In this report, the criteria are two or three because a history report will retrieve data within a period, so I have to input (FromDate) and (ToDate)and may be adding another criteria which is called a company. In all history reports, the report header will accomodate the two input values of date and extract the rest of report items into the reprot detail area. The problem is, the desigened system doesnot respond well as expected. When I load the filter form to fill in criteria for a history report, I have input the FromDate and ToDate and selected the third criteria (if any), then, the reprot opens without data in it.on the other hand, I tried to load the report directly form opening it, inputing criteria, and it has worked fine without probelms.Would someone expect a key reason for this problem or dirtecly can solve this problem?Appreciate youtr support. Thanks in Advance.mhegazy

What driver are you trying to install? The ATI driver should be downloaded from Windows Update.
When searching online for a driver, if it hangs on the searching on Windows Update, then you can turn it off.
Then manually go to Windows Update and download all of the Updates for your model. In one of the updates will be the ATI Video driver.

I'll try and make this concise: BSODs occur even while desktop is not in use. Memory_Management and PFN_LIST_CORRUPT is what I remember seeing.

Also: IE9, IE10 and IE11 all "stop working" randomly. Chrome - ditto. FF32 - ditto.

I've run Memtest86 (10 passes) no errors.

The last BSOD was deliberate insofar as I was running Driver Verifier. I'm not sure if I am posting in the right area since the browser crashes and BSODs may be two separate issues ... ?

I have a report, with 3 sub-reports in. It collects all the data for a particular SiteID. in Each of the sub-reports, there is a cost value. One for Hardware, one for Mobiles, and one for Phone lines. I have fields at the top of report which reflects the values and totals them up. Works great, except:
When i have a SiteID with one of the subforms being empty; i.e no mobiles on the site it displays fine in the report view, but when i go to print or publish as a pdf it strips out the subform with no value, and throws an error in my calculation. I need the calculation there, which means i need it to stop striping out the subform with no value. I however cannot see how to do this...its just bugging me, its fine inthe report view, just when you send it to print.

Would grateful for some help,

Whatever you don't want can be removed by UNINSTALLING the programs, NOT deleting them. Right click the Windows icon at the bottom left in the Task Bar and select the top item, Programs and Features. Then, under Uninstall or Change a Program, select the program to uninstall, right click and select Uninstall.

This morning i was looking at the computer (laptop) that i got from Dell for my daughter for xmas. It is a lower end dell, i3 with the basic version of windows 8 on it.

I wanted to ad an administrator account and change her account to a standard user. I was able to create the administrator account, however, i was not prompted to enter a password. Not knowing windows 8 i thought maybe it would fix itself on reboot and in anycase, i switched her account to a standard user.

When i rebooted, i found myself in a bad spot - only 1 admin account and when i tried to go back in, i of course was prompted to enter a password - for which i had never entered.

I called dell, and they promptly explained that this was a known glitch and they would happily apply an insta-fix for the low low price of 79 dollars. I wasn't really happy about this since, i only paid about 450 for the laptop.

How do i fix this?

A:Old DELL software rebuild

The downloads for all the Dell machines are here: . I don't see an XPS8733 listed, perhaps it is listed under a different format model number. The Dell disks are pure OS disks keyed to the machines bios. A retail OS will load just fine and all the drivers should be available from the above site.

Can anyone tell me about how Dell provides software in its computers, such as the OS (Windows), MS Office, etc.? I'm assuming that it's something like I've read about Compaq, where the "Recovery Disc" is actually a utility for recovering the real operating system, which is located in an image file on a hidden partition on the hard drive. If so, is MS Office (purchased from them as an add-on, or included in one of their "deals") handled in the same way? That is, is it included in that image file, and no actual software installation disk for MS Office is then included with the computer? I'm on a committee purchasing computers for our church staff, and need to hear from someone who's been there, so that I have something to report back. It seems to me that if the apps are just in that image file, not actually accessible on a disk, that a lot of the functionality (Recovery console in WinXP, or the ability to add or remove parts of Office) would be missing. It would sure help to know what to expect. Personally I'm a little leery about this. I tend to favor purchasing locally, where these things can be ascertained a little more definitely. Any help would be appreciated.

Simply put, could somebody please post a link to the GENUINE Dell Webcam Central software for Windows 7, where ever it is on the Dell Drivers Website?

I don't mean some hokey, 3rd rate Vista (or earlier) version of the program, but rather the true 32-bit OEM Windows 7 version that Creative Labs developed specifically for Dell notebooks and netbooks (and please don't refer me to the "Application" CD which came with the computer, because it's nowhere to be found).

Dell has been selling notebooks with the Creative Labs integrated Webcam and the Windows 7 operating system for a good couple of months now, and I know they would not have included the old Vista (or even XP) drivers for use with Microsoft's newest operating system.

I have looked high & low and read just about every post I can get my eyeballs on, but everybody seems to advise loading the old, outdated Vista or XP drivers rather then the new Windows 7 ones, which obviously had to have shipped with the computer, since it had Windows 7 on it from the get-go (and I'm not talking about the "upgraded after-the-fact" scenario, either).

So just a link, please, to the OEM Dell Creative Labs Webcam Central program for Windows 7.

Please let me know if I am using the wrong forum.

I have a Dell A920 printer and Windows xp home.

I recently had a tech reinstall Windows. Now, when I try to scan a document into my computer I get an error message telling me that "An OCR application is provided for you on your CD in the OCR directory" and telling me to install it before I can to the scan.

But I don't have the CD. It is not among the CDs I got from Dell when I bought my computer and printer from them, although their service man said I should have gotten one.

So I went to a Dell website and downloaded the drivers for this printer. But I still get that same message.

Should the download of the drivers have included the OCR software or it that something different from the drivers?

In any case, can anyone suggest a remedy for my problem?

Thanks, grandpaw

I'm having a new hp desktop with vista delivered today but I bought it without office 2007 installed. However, I still have the reinstallation disk of office 2007 that came with my dell (with vista). Can I use the dell provided microsoft office 2007 software to install on my new hp or is there some sort of embedded identification that would stop that? Thanks.

A:Using dell provided software on a new hp desktop

If it is OEM software then it is only legal if used on the actual computer it was purchased with (not even another computer of the same make and model). So the short answer is, even if it is possible, it is illegal and thus not a topic for discussing on here.

Hello out there,

I need some answers to an installation problem if pos please.

Having just re-installed a DELL 948 printer, all seemed ok and clicked on the finish icon.

However when I try to open the All-in-one centre, via the START/All programs menu, a search box appears on the screen headed "Preparing DELL all-in one centre for first use", saying "Searching for applications - Please Wait".

Then Ten seconds or so into visibly doing the search through the C drive, I get the error message box come up on screen saying "AIOC exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" ect, ect.

I can supply the Tec info from the error message if needed?

Many thanks

My wife and I bought a new dell laptop about 4 months ago.  We have been having issues since almost day 1 that have not been resolved as of yet.  Thankfully (I think), we have an extended warranty and, to Dell's credit, they have been there for every phone call.  Our problem is that the same issue keeps coming up which tells me Dell could have serious technical support issues (some people may not be shocked at this).  My wife is in grad school and we just need the problem fixed.  The technical support people have logged on to our computer and have tried several times to fix the problem, but it keeps coming back.  My wife only isuse it for school and works off of a school website so there are no other issues from other sites that could cause problems.  They say they want us to biy an external hard drive, back everything up and let them do a factory reset.  My problem with that is I am not going to buy another product to help your product become functional.  This will be the last product even remotely associated with Dell I will purchase.

A:Software issues on brand new dell

Please list Dell model and versions of windows. Example: Dell Inspiron 3543, windows 10.
Secondly, what issues you're having with the system ? Maybe we can help resolve the problems. Lastly, you should buy an external drive. Keep in mind, you can backup your photos, music, videos and other important stuff to a portable backup drive. You'll need it when the internal hard drive start to fail or the system fail itself. You can buy a external drive (recommend Seagate,1TB) at your local Walmart or go online for about $54.00.

I bought a used Dell Desktop computer from Dell a few years back. As advertized, it did not come with any software/OS installed or OS disc and I was fine with that because I had a copy of Vista I previously purchased. However when I received it, it had a Windows 7 COA stuck to it. Fast forward to today, I would like to put Windows 7 on the computer. Trying to understand what, if any, rights I have to use the license key.

It's an unusual situation and I can't seem to find a straight answer. Don't know that I will, but thought to put it out there to see if anyone had any thoughts/ideas.

A:Refurbished Dell with Windows 7 COA but no software.

A Windows 7 COA gives you the activation key for exactly the copy of Windows 7 as specified on the sticker.

So a while back I bought a lat C600, its a good laptop (was I just sold it) before it went I changed from a PCMCIA WIFI NIC to a neat little internal Mini PCI Broadcom NIC, installation went a bit ****eyed as the Dell Wireless Utility install decided I didnt have the correct hardware installed (???), however I just pointed the add new hardware wizard at the driver location and it installed quite happily, albeit without the Dell Wireless utility, however as the OS is XP I just used the windows zero config to enable the card and all was good.

So whats my problem, well my 2 kids also have Lat C600's ( i do like them a lot) and my sons PCMCIA card was a bit buggred so I decided to invest in another MiniPCI card, from the same place i bought the last one and identical in everyway.

I installed the card by pointing the add new hardware wizard at the driver location and the card installed, again, with no problem.

However his laptop has Windows 2000 on it, and this of course does not have the windows zero config.

So i googled and found the link to download the Dell Utility program for wireless NIC's, I checked my card was supported and proceeded to download it, 52 MB in all and a slow 64K download speed.

But again I got the message about " no suitable hardware installed" and the software wouldnt install, this left me in a bit of a quandary, I cant use the card as 2K doesnt have WZC and I cant find the software needed.

I guess the the app files kinda run by themselves when you double click them so it doesn't matter where they are on your computer. I could be wrong though.

However what about the ZIP files? I remember once using the Dell resource CD and it would download some of these ZIP files...but they would put them somewhere in my program files folder. That is why I was willing to use the CD more since it would place these files in the correct place (I mean I'm not going to put them on my desktop for instance).

So where do I put the ZIP files? There are only ZIP and application files.

It should have come pre-installed, and it should also be on the driver and software disc you were given. If not, just go to Dell's website, under support, and search for drivers by your service code (on the bottom of the laptop). You'll find the appropriate Bluetooth software.

From what I've read on the net, Dell Nss is not an application, it provides driver support for USB devices. You can't interact with it, it just runs in the background like any other driver.

It's gotta go.  It's constantly doing stuff in the background, gumming up the system with scans, checks, backups and who knows what else.  The other day, IE crashed three times before I noticed that a Dell program was running system checks on all of my drives.  Of coarse, I couldn't abort it and had to end it in task manager.

I need to either uninstall or at least disable auto-start on ALL of the Dell software that came with the computer.  I know how to do it via the control panel, but I just need to know if doing so will screw anything up.

A:Remove or disable DELL software

Which software are you needing to uninstall? What OS do you have installed? Below is information on how to remove Dell System Manager. If there is some other Dell software you need removed look in the add/remove programs section in control panel to uninstall.
you can uninstall Dell System Manager from your computer by using the Add/Remove Program feature in the Window's Control Panel.

On the Start menu (for Windows 8, right-click the screen's bottom-left corner), click Control Panel, and then, under Programs, do one of the following:

Windows Vista/7/8: Click Uninstall a Program.
Windows XP: Click Add or Remove Programs.

When you find the program Dell System Manager, click it, and then do one of the following:

Windows Vista/7/8: Click Uninstall.
Windows XP: Click the Remove or Change/Remove tab (to the right of the program).

Follow the prompts. A progress bar shows you how long it will take to remove Dell System Manager.

I am running a Dell Inspiron i7 N5110.

The problem that I am experiencing is that every time I run a fullscreen application, usually a game, online or standalone, I keep getting kicked back to the desktop every 15 seconds or so and I have to click the icon to activate the application again.

I updated all the screen drivers, ran Advanced System Care, disabled dwn.exe, fixed the registry and the problem still persists.

I am out of ideas.

Any help out there pretty please?

First thing uninstall Advanced System Care those programs often do more harm then good.
By dwn do you mean dwm Desktop Window Manager, or something else?

How old is the system?
Has the heatsink ever been blown out with a can of compressed air?

lets get a look at the temps the system is running D/L and run Hardware Monitor do something intense like a virus scan or gaming for a bit, Alt+Tab back to HWM expand all the trees and use the Win7 snipping tool to grab a screen shot of the HWM window, post the screen shot using the paperclip button in the advanced message box(Go Advanced button).

Dear all,

Great forum - would very much appreciate some advice.
Have just bought Dell Inspiron with Win7 Home Premium installed.
Have set up two accounts - 1 admin and 1 std user.
Next plan was to partition HDD so that data was in own volume.
Never used Win7 before [XP Pro desktop] but thanks to your forum have figured out how to manage partions.
I was a bit surprised to find my 320GB HDD was already partioned three ways.

100MB OEM - no volume letter.
14.65GB Recovery - no volume letter.
283GB OS - C assigned.

I tested the "C" drive for shrink space and returned a 144GB available.
This leaves me circa 140GB for OS and Office 2007 - seems exessive.

Guessing the 100MB and 14.65GB Recovery are there to stay [whether or not I like the way created].
Interestingly, I was going to create the sys restore disc as per the Dell manual but could not find "DellDataSafe" [anyone used this].
Is this a Win7 recovery partition ?

As regards the available shrink space - does this seem correct or should I be looking at a defrag first.
Seems a bit sad to end up with less than half of the 320GB before I even start.

Thanks D;-)

A:Partitions and recovery - (wot not space & Dell software)

1) The 100 mb partition is the system reserved which contains files needed to boot win7. The 14.65gb is the recovery partition needed to restore your computer to factory default state (the way you found it on unboxing). Leave both of these alone.

2) Fore dell datasafe, click on Start orb->All programs->Dell datasafe local backup folder->dell datasafe local backup, then follow on screen prompts. You'll need more than one dvd otherwise use a dual layer dvd. I personally prefer using a single dual layer. Do this ASAP, its an insurance.

3) For shrinking C: drive, use Partition Wizard.

Partition Wizard : Use the Bootable CD

Driving me INSANE!!  Every forum I read says to Uninstall the Dell Support Software Center to get rid of this window popping up over and over to tell me to insert the support disk.  Started about a month ago - pops up over and over and over and over - about every five minutes or less.  I've got a Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7 Professional.  Another forum said to just uninstall Dell Support Center (Support Center Software) - but when I try to uninstall it - THE SAME STUPID WINDOW POPS UP ASKING ME TO INSERT THE SOFTWARE.  I tried doing a Browse and it's looking for DSC20.msi.  I haven't managed to find it yet.  I have at least found \Program Files(x86)\Dell Support Center but there's so many sub-directories...
I shouldn't have to be jumping through so many hoops just to uninstall a program.  This is driving me crazy and I haven't found an answer online yet.

Oh and BTW - I've already done a search on my entire PC for D*.msi and only two Microsoft installers come up that have nothing to do with this!

I recently purchased a Dell Dimension 4700 computer running with XP Professional software. Unfortunately, Dell loaded a ton of odds and ends I don't or want to use. Not being an IT person, it's driving me nuts trying to get these "extras" identified, turned off or eliminated. What I have learned, is to take their technical support with a degree of caution.

After setting up the machine, carefully loading my software one step at a time, I began to find that the system slowed to a crawl. Using Ad-Aware and Spybot at work, I installed both only to find the system in even worse shape. I talked to their tech support and learned of the "System Restore" function. That was a two edged sword; it restored the speed of the system, but wiped out anything installed after the System Restore date. And, it automatically uninstalled Spybot.

I would appreciate any feedback on how best to identify the various unused, potentially conflicting software preinstalled by Dell so I can turn it off or eliminate it all together. One of the more interesting Dell extra's is a "Pop-up" window that appears in the lower left corner periodically with a loud sound introduction covering a variety of topics, including the sound level of the system, recommendation to not use Spybot and Ad-Aware, offering to make automatic fixes, etc.

Thanks in advance for input.

A:Eliminating Preinstalled Dell's Added Software

You can reverse the system restore that you did and that will get anything lost back.

Just my opinion but I would run both adaware and spybot, have a good look at what they find and then remove all. Both will quarantine and restore if you have to.

Working on a pc with xp home - a dimension that is probably about a year or less old. I find no backup utility on it. Sonic dvd writing software you have to upgrade to use it for backing up your data?

I did read in an xp book that with xp home you can find on the OS cd - if you have one - the ntbackup.exe file buried somewhere, but this will not write to cd. You have to write to your hd and move the backup file to a cdr or rw.

Thought all those recordable drives automatically came with some backup utility. Am I missing something?

I have 4 yr old Dimension 4300(from DELL) - originally it had MS ME as operating sys - I used the CD DELL sent to upgrade to XP Home 2 years ago... then my initial problems started.
Now Win XP will not boot (except in Safe Mode) ... an error flashes on the screen (about 1/2 sec) after the initial windows screen (not the splash screen - the screen with the 'thermometer guage' display) and XP will not boot. (I've taken a video of the screen and looked at it in 'freeze-frame' but the error is not specific .... basically says there's an error that precludes Win from running).
I'm about to purchase a retail upgrtade version of XP Home (been thinking about doing this for over a year because my current XP will not 'accept' the XP Upgrade CD when I try to add something from the Win CD to my system ... eg network programming - I had deleted a lot initially to reduce the size on my C: disk).
MY QUESTION: will I be able to reinstall some of the software (MS Suite for example) after the retail version of XP is installed?
BTW - I'm using my daughters PC because mine is down.

PS: I don't believe there is anything illegal here ... it's ALL my machine only ... I have a valid Win XP system now (even tho it doesn't work) .... I purchased the PC originally from DELL so the additional software is already installed and the CDs are mine ... and I'm purchasing a new, completely valid XP Home program.

Windows will install most of the drivers. In most cases you will need to download and install the correct sound driver as Windows will only install the generic, basic function High Definition Audio Driver. Any specific Dell hardware drivers may need to be installed.

If the Latitude came with Windows 7, access the Dell downloads using the service tag number and it will list all applicable drivers, as it was originally built.
