Product Information not Valid Hp Folio 9470m

Q: Product Information not Valid Hp Folio 9470m

Hi, I work in tech support for a company and one of our enterprise laptops mysteriously has lost its "tattooed" information. The user who had this laptop left the company and when we went to wipe it we discovered this issue. Upon starting the machine the HP splash screen has in red text on the top left of the screen "Manufactoring Program Mode set 1 of 10" after the splash screen a "Product Information not Valid" screen appears. It reads: Product Information not validThe following product information programmed into the system board is missing or invalidSYSTEM BOARD (00A)Product Name Product Serial NumberProduct SKUProduct FamilySystem Board CT NumberENTER - Continue Startup For more information, please visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup I know that there is an HP utility tool to "tattoo" this information back onto the machine. As an enterprise that uses 95% HP equipment (our monitors, mouse, keyboards are the only non-HP equipment) I think that the tech support deserves these types of tools to troubleshoot issues. Sure the machine boots normally if you hit enter, but it's alarming/scandalous to be presented with that product information not valid screen when powering on a machine. Bonus points to whoever can provide some reasoning as to how this occurred.

when replacing the m/b, the information should have been transfered to the new m/b. If not done, i would re-enage with HP support and have that taken care of

HiNot sure if my post was noticed as posted over weekend and got no reply so I'm trying again.Trouble started with random system restarts anywhere from 2 to 60min after powering on. That lasted a few days. Than it got worse, it was stopping before system boot with error message: motherboard product information missing. After a soft or hard reset (can't remember now) it stopped displaying anything, only LEDs came on and fan run, all lasting about 5s. I tested RAM in other machine, OK. Pulled HD out, no difference. Put a different HD in, no difference. With DC disconnected and battery out I left CMOS battery disconnected overnight. Now it cycles: LEDs and fan come on for about 5s, all off for 1s and tries again. Any help will be appreciated... Best regards

I have attached the correct file but I think some files may be missing as I can't seem to get the Diagnostics Tool to do a full run through.

Any help would be appreciated

A:BSOD When Using VPN on HP Folio 9470M

Hi BinaryStar0647.

Your BSODs are caused by Sunbelt Personal Firewall driver, a regular BSOD causer which is disconnected from the market from December 2011.

Seeing your files I realized that the drivers are used by some other thing, GFI Software Firewall.

And it is the driver that is failing here.

HI, I have an EliteBook Folio 9470m running WIN 8.1 Ent 64-bit. I have an issue with the Touchpad not working. I have installed the latest driver (sp66111) from HP Support and as a result only the PointStick and associated buttons work and not the Touchpad. Has anyone experienced this and if so what is the fix please? Incidentally, the Touchpad was working at one stage on this OS and ceased to work afterwards. I have re-stalled the OS from scratch withpout success either. Thanks in advance, Vik

We have 2 x Folio 9470m notebook. 1st has 8GB of memory with the upgraded ram using https://www.skhynix.com/eolproducts.view.do?pronm=DDR3+SDRAM&srnm=HMT451S6AFR8A&rk=20&rc=module  The 2nd only has 4Gb of memory and want to upgrade - I found this other memory cheaper - https://www.skhynix.com/eolproducts.view.do?pronm=DDR3+SDRAM&srnm=HMT351S6CFR8C&rk=20&rc=module  My understanding is the main difference is the what I already have is the Low Power (1.35V vs 1.5V). Does anyone know if Folio 9470m will work with this 1.5V version of the memory? Thanks for your help.

A:PC3 vs PC3L memory for Folio 9470m

From the Service Manual: Two customer-accessible/upgradable memory module slots DDR3 PC3-1600-MHz dual channel support Supports 16384-MB of system RAM in the following configurations: ? 16384-MB (8192-MB×2) ? 8192-MB (8192-MB×1 or 4096×2) The specified memory is 1.5 volt. DDR3L will run at either 1.35 or 1.5 volt but I generally avoid mixing voltages. That is why the DDR3L is working for you and I assume you have 2 of the same in the laptop with 8 gigs.  Can you figure out what is in the 4 gig machine now? I would not mix voltages or density...i.e would not have one module with 8 black blocks and one with 4. Try to match the existing 4 gig module is what I am saying...not the exact brand of memory but the characteristics of it.

A:Hp folio 9470m Bios Pass

Hi @ARtan-Krasniqi? Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting ! Folio is a lovely business class notebook. Most business class notebooks (including yours, Elitebook and Probook, etc...) have better security than consumer class computers. You will have to contact HP Support for business for assistance on removing the password. Here is how >> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html>> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/business-support.html  HP Business support should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file and instructions which you can use  to reset the password.  Hope this helps. Let me know if you face any issues.

I just received my HP Pavilion dv7-3173nr laptop a couple days ago.  The HP Support Assistant performed a bunch of updates, and now I receive the following error msg every time it boots up: Product Information Not ValidThe following product information programmed into the system board is missing or invalid.System Board (00A)  - Product Name, Configuration, serial number, product numberEnter - Continue Startup For more information please visit hp.com/go/techcenter/startup  Well, there is no information at that location.  After reading through several off site boards, I find this is a common problem with HP and that the recommended action is to use a HP DMI editor tool to rewrite the information on the mother board.  I am NOT an advanced user and have NO idea how to do this.  I called HP, and after two hours all they can say is send it end.  I dont think so.  If anything I'll return the darn thing and by a Dell next time.   Anyone here have any ideas on how to repair this thing?

A:Product Information Not Valid - error msg at start up

I received the same computer and after using for a couple of days received the same message.  Called HP and they said infomration was loaded in the factory.  They said the only solution was to sent computer back.  They also said I was one in a million this rarely ever happens.  I decided to send the computer back to where I bought it and get a replacement.  I received my new computer on Wednesday and by Friday 6/25/10 I received the same message: Product information not valid. Called HP and was told again to send it back that I was one in a million that this happens to.  Told them that is not humanely possible.   I told them they are selling defective computers and I will send it back and buy a Dell.  I have searched the net and so far have not found a solution.  If you find help please let me know. Otherwise this computer is going back on Monday.

Try testing the hard drive and the memory. To test the hard drive go to Computer and right-click on the C drive, select Properties, tools, check now. Set a disk check on the next start up. Let the check finish. To test the memory go here:

Download version 5.01 and burn it to a CD or DVD. Boot the laptop with this disk and run Memtest86 for at least 7 passes. No errors are allowed...

This is independent of the Operating System - I used Windows 7, Windows 8. When my laptop is docked but I attach the display port cable directly to the laptop it works without any problem. I have also realized that with other displays 23'' or 24'' the setup with the docking station works without a problem. So it has to be a cominbination between UltraSlim Docking Station and ZR2740w screen. Any advise what else should be tried?

Update:  After calling HP technical support I and being bounced among various clueless offshore tech support reps, I finally landed on the US-based workstation support department.  Justin looked up the problem and identified it as a known issue and is replacing my monitor cable with one that HP says will work.   Also, in the meantime there is a workaround that I had figured out.  If you don't use the displayport port on the ultraslim docking station but pug the cable directly into the computer it works fine.  There is some inconvienence associated with this as you have to plug it in every time you dock and unplug it every time you undock (and of course the cable always falls behind the desk while you are doing this), but it is okay as a solution while I am waiting for the new cable to arrive.  Will update this post after it arrives and report whether it works.

Hi, I was working on my notebook when suddenly my PC went off. I didn't know what to do so I unpluged it from power and leave it alone for a few hours. Then I try to turn it on again, at first notebook did not respond on power button so I try it again and it turned on....what was very strange....I thought that mybe notebook got overheated, or power went out...and then strange message appeared that said "Product Information Not Valid System Board 00A problem" i pressed enter and system booted up normaly ....I thought it showed up once and will disappear after the restart, but not...notebook is working normaly but this is just annoying me. I googled this problem and it says that this could happend when you change your motherboard, but I didnt touch that at all. Is there any solution or  I need to carry notbook to some service because  notebook warranty has expired, they could charged me repair even I do not see what the failure is.  I would appreciate your help very much, tnx.

Hello, After upgrading from Win7 to Win10, my system got stuck when uninstalling MS Office, and nothing worked anymore (File Explorer etc.). I tried to make a factory reset, which got stuck, too, and no OS would be detected anymore. Then I tried to reinstall Win10 64 bit, which brought be a bit of trouble. I have an HP Folio 9470 with a 320 HDD and a 32 GB (I believe) mSATA. During my Win10 reinstall, I ran into trouble and then deleted all partitions on both drives and reformatted everything because I thought that was the method for a clean reinstall. First, I installed Win10 on the 320 HDD, but my BIOS did not appear to allow this (although harddisk was in the legacy boot options), which the Win10 installer had already warned me about, so I could not boot from my HDD and thus could not start Win10. Next, I reformatted everything and installed Win10 on my mSATA. However, the Win10 installer and later Windows 10 only showed a size of 11GB for the mSATA. The installation itself already took up 11GB and there was no space left for necessary drivers and updates, and Windows 10 malfunctioned. My feeling is that the mSATA was larger than just 11GB, but that a part of it is not shown any more after deleting partitions and reformatting. After multiple reinstalls, I do not know what to do any more. Any idea what how I might get a functioning version of Windows 10 on my HP Folio 9470m? Best regardsFrank

So i'm using a Folio 9470m at work on a 2013 Ultraslim Docking station with 2 Display Port connectors, but if i attach two screens to those it only displays them as one device and mirrors the image on both screens. Furthermore if i go into the screen and resolution settings, both identify as screen 1, but i can set 3840x1080 instead of 1920x1080 and at that moment the picture will span over both screens as one. The downside to this is that the login screen, windows i open for the first time, they're all gonne appear in the middle where the bezels are, it handles them as one bigger screen and not as 2 screens that extend each other. I need them to be detected as 2 seperate screens, and so far i have had no success. Has anyone experienced this or knows a solution? I really don't want to connect the second screen via VGA. Can the folio handle 2 display port connections on a dock? Is this maybe the cause?

As far as I know the  Folio 9470m doesnt support more then one external display.  I think you can verify this by having a look at the quickspec document for the model.

I am trying to schedule a task for Acronis True Image Home 2010

I have noticed this before come up asking me for login name and password.

I presume this has something to do with UAC but I am not sure what I should be using. I would rather not have to use a login name and password each time to schedule a task. How do I remove this requirement from Windows 7 ?

It's annoying me.

A:My Login Information Is Not Valid?

Acronis TI requires admin rights to run. You need to enter the username/password for an account with administrator rights. This looks like it is an Acronis wizard and not the windows task scheduler. You should only need to enter a password for those scheduled items that require admin rights to run.

Also, please do not double post. It won't get your question answered any faster and makes more work for the site administrators.

I have a Acer Aspire T620 desktop PC, recently I had to reinstall XP Pro (which came with the computer when I brought it) as it was hit by the \windows\system32\config\system... missing or corrupt problem.

I have lost my Acer recovery CD, luckily I have my MSDN subscription DVDs so I have a copy of Win XP Pro. I began re-installing when I was asked to enter my product key. I have a COA sticker on my computer?s case, however after entering the key XP reports the product key as invalid! I had brought my computer from an authorized Acer reseller and the COA looks authentic! I have restored my computer I few times using the recovery CD but using the recovery CD I don?t think I was required to enter the product key.

Can anyone tell me is it possible to restore my PC without the original recovery CD? I thought you can use any XP Pro CD to install as long as the product key is valid? Also, why is my product key not valid? If it is not valid then what key was I using before? As I brought a new hard drive to install Windows XP, my original hard drive with the corrupted Windows XP still works, is it possible to retrieve the original product key and use that key again?

Thanks

Gavin

I have read some threads about people buying Windows 7 product keys on ebay and they are prob no good. I bought 2 product keys for Windows Ultimate 7, but didn't buy them off ebay. But how can I find out if my keys are good keys? After I bought the keys I was given a link to what I think was msdn site to choose my language, and my product That I bought the keys for and I used easymule to download the Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit iso. Before I go through the trouble of formatting my drive and installing Windows Ultimate 7 I was wondering how to tell if these keys are valid and make Windows 7 Ultimate a good copy and get updates. But I dont want to post the keys here if they are good because I paid for them to use and dont want someone to use them before I could activate them.Bryant

A:How to know if My product key is a valid key

If you bought only the keys without Windows 7 media there's a good chance they were illegally sold to you. The only way to know if the keys work is to install Windows 7 and try activating it. Also, be careful when downloading pirated copies of Windows (emule) as many contain viruses, malware, trogans, keyloggers, etc. Windows - Is It Genuine http://www.microsoft.com/genuine Microsoft - Piracy http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/default.aspx

My brother in law gave my dad his old PC with a legitimate version of Windows XP Home on it. However, when I tried to download Windows Defender for my dad, WGA said it was not a valid product key.

Unfortunately, I did not have time to investigate why the key was not valid or try rectifying it, but I wondered if he should not go online until I or my brother in law get chance to sort out the problem.

I have looked on the microsoft and MGA websites to see if this is a problem and they state that if the product key is not valid then you will not be able to download certain software and updates, however critical updates can still be downloaded. They also state that when going through the validating process no details of name, address or email address are taken.

I was concerned though, because I had heard that if you run what microsoft deems a non valid version of XP then your operating system can be blocked. I looked on this forum and one person said it is not a problem as he has been using the same product key on three PC's (therefore not valid) for years and has never had a problem. Someone else on this forum said that you can get blocked with a non valid key, but it may be within 2 weeks, a month or even after a year.

Does it depend on the reason why your product key is not valid whether you become blocked? (For example, blocked VLK or keygen created as opposed to multiple users.)

A while back I moved my Gateway machine from Vista Home Premium x32 to Win 7 Home Premium x64.
The Win 7 OS was purchased from a well known software distribution outlet to save money, and was a Dell OEM x64 bit version.
The clean install went Ok, but the product key included with the disc would not validate. I called the vendor and they provided a new product key, which did validate.
About seven months went by with no problems, then after the second to last MS update, I received an error after booting stating my copy of windows was not valid.

Again I contacted the vender, and they supplied a third product key, but told me I might have to validate by phone. This didn't work, the third key they had given me was an invalid key as well!
I ended up with MS tech support and after forty five minutes later and granting them control of my PC, the tech provided a working product key, but was reluctant to give me the key!
If I call the vender, I'm sure they will supply another key, but now I'm using a MS supplied key that I don't have access to. What do I do now?
Thanks for any advice!

A:Product Key Not Valid

Download and install Belarc. It carries out a full audit of your system and displays the results in a web page format.

The information should also include the product keys and serial numbers for any software you have installed.

At least now Microsoft can't refuse to validate an operating system that THEY provided the product key for.

I purchased a copy of Windows 7 from eBay and it came with a Product Key label. The disk doesn't say that it is the Service Pack 1 level, so I assume that it is the original version. I decided to bypass all of the updating that would be required to bring the original version up to the SP1 level by just downloading an ISO of Windows 7 SP1 from the Microsoft web site. Part of the process for doing this is to enter the Product Key so that Microsoft can verify that the key is valid. I entered the key and clicked VERIFY. I got a message that this key was not valid for this product. The FAQ stated that the key would not be valid for an OEM, Enterprise, etc. version of the program. This leads me to ask two questions:

1) If I have a valid Product Key for Windows 7 64-bit, why would it not be valid for the SP1 version; it's just the latest version of the original OS?

2) If I go ahead and install the original version of the OS from the disk that I have, will I be able to receive the SP1 update when I have installed all updates up to that point? (Or is SP1 just a compilation of the original OS and all of the updates that were issued before MS released SP1?)

Thanks in advance.

These are questions/situations for a Microsoft rep, IMO.  Nothing anyone can tell you here at BC...is likely to be as valid as a simple phone conversation with an authorized rep of MS, charged with doing license activation..

Hello,

On hindsight this is not as simple as I first thought so bear with me....

Originally I bought Windows 7 Ultimate at a reduced price for pre-order even thouggh I knew at the time I didn't have a machine to run it.

I recently acquired a nice machine from a friend with SSD's and as I recently found the windows 7 by accident looking for something else I tought I'd use it, beleiving it to of not yet been installed and it came up key not valid.

Thinking about things before writing this post I seem to remember a few years ago before I lost my job, I upgraded one of my machines and I believe I may of installed win 7. The machine broke down after a few months when the motherboard and a couple of other bits went blink and having lost my job due to an acquired disability, I was down both mentally and financially, and remem ber dismantling the machine in about 10 seconds flat !!!!

So at best Windows 7 Ultimate with my product ID has not been loaded on a working machine for at least a few years and currently there is no known machine with it on, i am using Vista.....

I still havent worked due to disability and money is even tighter and I cannot afford windows 7 or a licence and I 'd really like to use it.

i cannot phone anyone due to deafness, i have been onto Microsoft but kept getting sent to the USA site then they would say they cannot help with a UK product and so I have gone round and round circles till i come here....

It used to be very much easier to fix an ... Read more

A:Product key not valid on installing.

Hello Simon -

When is the key being rejected? If it is during install it might be because it isn't seeing an underlying OS when you boot the Win7 DVD as it must if using Win7 Upgrade version.

The solution to this is to leave the key blank during install, then afterwards do the quick registry workaround given in this tutorial to activation Win7 Upgrade version on a clean HD: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version.

If this is not the issue then please explain when the key is being rejected and how you are trying to activate it. Most times this is due to incorrect character input so I'd check it over several times. When it's rejected is there a phone activation option? If so one of us might be able to help you by connecting via TeamViewer to do the phone part of it for you.

So I have a used laptop I just acquired and it's about 7 years old. No warranty, so contacting Dell really isn't a solution.

Simply put, I need a valid and genuine product key for Vista. But I'd be happy to buy an XP installation disc that comes with a valid product key and use that.

So I need to buy either an XP or Vista installation disk and it has to come with a product key.

Microsoft doesn't seem to sell those anymore, which I guess makes sense, but this laptop wont' support Windows 7 or Windows 8 so I'm stuck buying something off of a third party vendor.

I don't know what to look for though, haha. That and everything is so extremely expensive! Who knew XP installation discs with valid product keys were so darn expensive?

What should I be looking for? Upgrade discs aren't the answer so I've figured out and I'm probably not looking for a recovery disc, either, as there isn't an OS on the laptop I'm thinking of anyways.

What are the key words I'm looking for while I lurk Amazon?

This looks right, is it? What does ''full'' and ''old version'' mean though?

This looks good, too, and about 30 dollars cheaper than the one listed above give or take 10 dollars. Why doesn't it say ''full'' in this one though?

Reinstalling windows xp on e-machine when I enter the product key it tells me it is not a valid number. This has been installed on this computer for 2-3 years until my grandson downloaded pron and the worms and soforth damaged the OS.
Can anyone help?

A:Product key e-machine will not except as valid

Are you installing the version of XP that actually came with the computer or are you installing from a XP disk (from anywhere) and trying to use the keys that came with the machine? The problem is very likely that the key you have is either a volume license key or a OEM key (which you are attempting to use to install a full version), neither of which will work. If you are getting an error and you are installing the original software that came with the machine then you need to ring Microsoft and get them to fix the problem for you.

I got an MSI-GX630 from a friend who installed XP Pro SP2 on it. I want to sell this computer to someone else and they want the vista home premium installed on it. Vista Home Premium was the original OS on this computer and it has the MS sticker on the bottom with it's key. I ran the boot disc and instered the key and it says it isn't valid. I ran a paradox to it to maybe clear the problem but it still says the key is invalid. Does anyone know a work around without having to call stupid MS support?

A:Valid product key not registering

If you ran the manufacturer's recovery disc that puts the original OS back on it, make sure your hardware is the same (or at least close). OEM Recovery Cds are very h/w specific. Make sure the disc is the correct one or it hasn't been installed and registered on an another machine elsewhere.

A:after reinstall windows product key not valid for activation

The install must be classed as counterfeit.

Your machine was manufactured in 2008 - 9 months before Windows 7 was launched, and is licensed for Vista only, unless you purchased an upgrade or a new Full license.
The installed Key is the OEM_SLP Key for Windows 7 Home Premium - valid ONLY on machine manufactured by Fujitsu, which came pre-installed with Windows 7.

You need to reformat and reinstall with the licensed operating system.

The installed Office enterprise is almost certainly also counterfeit - it's a Volume Licensed version which is not generally available to the public.

I just passed down a Dell Latitude D505 to my son. We had a local shop do a "wipe and restore" on it. It was starting to get BSOD stop errors before this but went totally insane with them after he used it for a couple weeks. It was running windows xp pro but I didn't pick up on the pro part of it until it was too late to back out of my blunder. I had a disk and product key for windows xp home edition 2003 and used that to re-install the OS, thinking only that widows xp is windows xp, not of the versions thereof. I am getting an error message saying that the product key is invalid.

other info

-There is a xp pro product key on the bottom of the laptop but I don't have an install cd as it was preloaded.

-I am not using the computer I need help with to contact you. It has no OS.

-The xp home edition disk came with a e-machines desktop that died.

Thank for providing a place for those of us trying to learn our way around our computers without having it cost an arm and a leg (IE: Microsoft support).

A:valid product code gets invalid error

You can't use the Windows XP Pro key on the laptop with a Windows XP Home installation disk. You also can't use the Windows XP Home installation disk and key that came with another computer.

You can try to contact Dell to see if they'll sell you restore disks for the computer.

Right, I've a bit of a problem that's perplexing me. I was given an Acer One to 'fix' as it was running slow, it was full of Acer bloatware and was mind-numbingly slow. I ended up reinstalling Windows 7 Starter (SP1) which went well but couldn't install updates for the life of me. I tried all sorts of fixes but just couldn't get updates working so thought I'd try upgrading to 10 via the Media Creation tool, but that sat at 'Checking for updates' for an eternity too after downloading, it never actually started installing.

I lost patience in the end and have reinstalled 7, but now when I try to enter the product key of the laptop's sticker it's telling me the key is not valid. I'm not sure why that's the case here (it worked fine first time round), would 10 have anything to do with it?

I skipped the step of entering the product key at setup and have tried activating online but still get the message that the product key is not valid and I should check to see if I entered it correctly. Obviously I've checked and entered it time and again with no joy so I'm completely stumped. I've included the MGDiag report so hopefully this will shed some light on the subject.

Strangely I've noticed there is only 3 days left until automatic activation instead of the usual 30 if that has any bearing on the issue. Of course, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Seriously, on Notebooks it's always best to check that the B at the end of the code is really a B and not an 8.

All sorted. I'd looked at that Key fifteen times or more, I guess I need my eyes testing.

I accidently purchased an upgrade to Windows 8 when I meant to purchase a new install. It's in a different language, so I had a bit of trouble understanding the product information at the time.

I didn't notice it was an upgrade when installing because it was all in a different language and I only half understood what the prompts were asking me. The product key is valid, so it allowed me to install the program, but of course I have an error message that the product key can't be used now that it wants me to register it online.

I was hoping that someone could tell me how I can just purchase a product key rather than having my current upgrade windows returned. I believe that it will be a very difficult to have it returned, so I would rather just pay an extra fee to have it upgraded to the full version.

A:I need information on purchasing a product key

Have a look at this, Clean Install with Windows 8 Upgrade . If you here, Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help and download the same, but English version. You may be able to just reinstall in English with that product code..

Hi,

When launching my Microsoft Surface 3 with Windows 10, I get a blue screen as below;

You'll need to use recovery tools. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your PC administrator or PC/Device manufacturer.

If I hold the volume down key on boot up, I can get into some sort of setting screen where I have set the below settings;

Hi to BleepingComputer

Access the Command Prompt like you did before and try the following:

- Type Bootrec /RebuildBcd, and then press ENTER.
If the Bootrec.exe tool runs successfully, it presents you with an installation path of a Windows directory.
To add the entry to the BCD store, type Yes. A confirmation message appears that indicates the entry was added successfully.
If the Bootrec.exe tool cannot locate any missing Windows installations, you must remove the BCD store, and then you must re-create it.
To do this, type the following commands in bold in the order which they are presented:
- Bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
- ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
- Bootrec /rebuildbcd

Hello,
I did the Repair install, after months of grief trying to solve various issues. It works just fine.
Yet just yesterday ( after installing the repair install 5 days ago) a message popped up suggesting my
Product key code was not valid. It asked if I wished to add it again, or buy it ( via phone registration).
I did nothing and thought to ask you folks here for advice.

My Key code is what came Std. on the Dell box - a label on it with Microsoft logo and the key code.
I checked 3X times to insure I copied the code properly and entered the numbers correctly.
The machine is running fine - yet my concern ? Should I be concerned ? Is there something I should have done
or need to do now.

Any coaching on this is welcomed.

I have 3 old laptops, all have COA stickers with brand and product key on the bottom.

I used (tried to use) an OEM ISO to "repair" instal one, and to reinstall the 2 others.
In all 3 cases, the Microsoft OEM ISO refuses to recognize the VALID OEM Certificate of Authorization product keys!
On account of this, I had to "hack" my own systems to instal ISO's from elsewhere, which is NOT my idea of a good time.  I do not appreciate Microsoft treating my 3 paid-for laptops with included Windows as cheats!

And the irony is, I had to patch the half-baked ISO instal with a hack tool... and the HACK tool RECOGNIZED the COA product keys as being the VALID ones!
So, what is up with Microsoft NOT recognizing these valid product keys as valid?
Is there a legal FIX for this that will make the SP3 OEM recognize my legal XP's?
Thank you.

I have just finished my PC build with the PSU coming in the post today and windows 7 coming shortly after. I have a Revodrive 3 ssd 120gb which needed drivers installed first to work. Wasn't a problem I just inserted a memory stick with them on.

I get through expanding files etc fine just when I get to the product key part it says key not valid.
Two things I think are causing the problem, it is a upgrade package for 3 PC's, I am not doing a upgrade as it is a bran new PC with no OS. Also it says for US distribution only but I am in the UK.

This is what I bought

I have contacted the seller and I am waiting for a response.

If I can not use this windows 7 do I have to wipe the ssd to install a different windows 7 product key? If it is a windows 7 home premium key?
How do I wipe it?

So I have the fun task of reinstalling Vista on an Acer Aspire laptop, but I'm having some issues with the reinstall.

Now I have a valid and legal product key on the base of the PC. The product key is for Vista Home Premium 32bit OEM.

I don't have a Vista disk (Acer laptops dont ship with them) so I located a Vista 32bit Home Premium disk and tried to use that. After all the licence is the product key, not the media. However during install it tells me my product key is not valid.

Funnily enough I've never had this problem before - mismatched disks with product keys. As far as I know if the product key is valid (and for the same version of windows as the disc) the install should work, surely?

Does anyone have any experience re-installing on Acer laptops or will I have to shell-out ?2/hour + goodness knows what for the magic Acer special recovery disks to re-vamp my machine?

Cheers!

A:Re-install Vista 32bit Home Premium - Product key not valid

Hi,

OEM copies do sometimes have this problem. If you are sure you are installing the same version of Windows as your product key, install Windows without the product key if necessary and activate using the free phone activation (if online activation is not working, and you make the effort to phone up, Microsoft assume you are telling the truth and activate your copy of Windows anyway) This should fix the problem.

Hi everyone, hopefully someone can help me before I throw my laptop in the garbage out of frustration!

I bought a refurbished Lenovo Thinkpad last July (2015). I activated the product key, everything was fine. Then last week I turned on my laptop to find a message telling me my version of windows was likely to be counterfeit. My desktop background is now black with a message in the bottom right corner saying 'build 7601' 'this copy of windows is not genuine' '0x80070426'

It asked me to go online to validate my copy of windows, which I did, but the program was unable to validate it.
I tried re-entering my product key from the sticker and get the message that the key 'does not appear to be a valid win7 product key' (whether this is because I've already activated that key I don't know).
On the 'system' screen it does tell me that windows is activated, but it is also telling me to get a genuine copy or validate online.

I contacted Staples, where I bought it, who told me their vendor said the Win7 was genuine. Gee thanks.
So I phoned the vendor, who also told me it was genuine and gave me the phone activation number for MS, which I can't use because I can't access the phone activation screen because it wants me to validate, not activate.
To say I'm unhappy with the customer service experience is an understatement!!

I'm currently slogging through a free MS support online chat which I hold out zero hope for. Can someone here help?

I've recently wanted to install 'Rome: Total War' onto my computer, the installation works fine up until right at the very end [very annoying!], the installation decides to stick/crash on 'publishing product information' and then it closes out of the blue, and all my installation files are deleted, Some help would be really appreciated in helping me try to solve this.

Notes
The installation works on a copy of windows Xp without service pack 2, but as soon as i install windows server pack 2, the problem just re-appears, im guessing my problem has to do something with the installation of windows server pack 2.

I've tried ALOT of things to try and solve this issue, including searching the internet [most of the seem to be VERY old threads from late 2004 about this exact issue] and following installshields advice and other peoples ideas on how to solve this issue, but no solution has seemed to pop up for me.

All help is appreciated, and feel free to ask me for more information if you require it!
