what Video Card upgrades are possible for Pavilion h8-1030?

Q: what Video Card upgrades are possible for Pavilion h8-1030?

The video card in my Pavilion h8-1030 died and I need to find a replacement. If possible, I'd like to upgrade the card at the same time to the best possible card that would work on this system, within on total $350 budget. Being overly optimistic and with a big dose of wishful thinking I had actually ordered a MSO GeForce GTX 970 , but before it arrived I read that it will not work as teh BIOS version cannot be upgraded to version 8. So I am sending that card back as soon as it arrives. I am unable to buy a whole new computer at this time, so I'm going to have to settle for a new GPU (and PSU if needed). I don't game but I do use Adobe CC 2015 applications, mostly photoshop adn lightroom but ocasionally also premiere and in-design. Before failing the old card was struggling with certian photoshop functions and video editing was slow and frustrating. This is why I would like to upgrade the GPU. A: what Video Card upgrades are possible for Pavilion h8-1030?

Hi, The version 6 BIOS in your PC is not compatible with many of the newer graphics cards. You will need to use an older legacy graphics card in your PC. The processor and memory in your PC are more than sufficient for most use. I suggest that you look for a NVIDIA GTX 660 for around $226 new on Amazon. You can find the GTX 660 on eBAY for a lot less. You will also need to replace the power supply. The Corsair CX650m should be around $55 after rebate.

I'm hoping somebody can help me with this.  I recently upgraded the power supply in my machine to a 600W EVGA B2 and I was also hoping to upgrade the video card as well.  Looking at the motherboard though, it looks like I'm going to have problems finding a small and powerful enough video card to fit well.   I want to to get 'enough' video card to handle semi modern games.  I was hoping to get something as powerful as a 750Ti around abouts.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  It looks like the motherboard is only going to accomodate single slot cards, short and/or low profile cards. I'm hoping somebody can confirm whether this card will work in my machine:MSI Computer Graphics Cards N750TI-2GD5TLP .   Besides this card, does anybody have any recommendations?  I'm not opposed to AMD over Nvidia.  I'm just looking for the most powerful card that'll work in the space the motherboard allows for.  Also, I'm really hoping to hear testimonials of people who've upgraded successfully. On the Nvidia side, I also looked at the ZOTAC 740 and on the AMD side I was looking at the Visiontek Radeon 7750 SFF.  Although for obvious price/performance reasons, I'd prefer to go with the 750Ti. Thanks in advance.  -Geoff

A:Possible video card upgrades for an HP Pavilion P6-2127c

You original OS was WIN 7.  That dictates a non-UEFI vBIOS card,  MSI does make a hybrid card with a switch for Legacy BIOS. Newer cards are dual slot, so it will span 2 slots. If anythiung is in the 2nd slot, it has to be moved. Here is a link to the MSI description.

I installed the demo for Keepsake, and I get this error saying that I do not have enough video memory, and that I should upgrade my video card driver. NVIDIA GeForce is reccomended, though I am lost, and do not know what to do from here. I have installed the Intel Hardware Accelerator, which may be too old, just as the upgrades found on the website are.
If someone can help me, I would appreciate it. I am not sure I am doing this correctly, either

I want to upgrade my video cards! And I need some expert advice, so obviously, this is the first place I look for advice.

I'm running an ASUS P5NSLI Mobo - with a - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.3 GHz Processor - 3 GB RAM - 450 Watt PSU- and currently 2x Nvidia 7600 GS cards.

Do I buy:

A) One (1) 8800GTX Card

B) Two (2) 8600GTS cards and run SLI

I dont know the pros / cons of going in either direction. I do have alot of computer knowledge, but I've never had much experience with video cards and the differences between running SLI or just 1 powerful card... I would automatically think of the saying "two heads are better than one..."

Thanks in advance...

Hello guys!

Right now, I'm running a slightly dead Nvidia 8800GT, (the nvdlr driver has failed and restarted message)

Looking at upgrades, I've been considering the Radeon HD 5770

( - Buy XFX Radeon HD 5770 850MHZ 1GB 4.8GHZ GDDR5 2XDVI HDMI Display Port DIRECTX11 PCI-E Video CARD- - HD577AZNFC In Canada.)

and me being not so tech savy, I'd like some second opinions. I'm not looking to spend more then 400$ CAD however, so if you can recommend me something on - Canada's Premier Computer Store - Great Technology, Service and Selection. that falls within my budget, even better.

I'm on Win7 Pro 64x Intel Q6600 @ 2.40Ghz , I have a 650w power supply, 22inch monitor running at 1680x1050 and I primarily game.

I'd appreciate any advice and input from you guys on this.

A:Need your opinion on video card upgrades

My quess is that its a good card for the money your willing to spend, i`m setting up an new rig and i`m going for the exact same card.

reviews om the net are good, benchmarks also.

if your buying the card for gaming, you can get a good 2 to 3 years of fun out of it (until the new game`s start using more an more, and you have to buy a new card just to keep up with the specs needed)

I have a Gateway MX7525 laptop with the ATI Mobility Radeon X600 video 3D Graphics card installed. ATI makes newer cards, X1200, X1400, up to X2300. My question is can I replace my X600 with a higher, faster version card?

A:Laptop Video Card Upgrades

To my knowledge the video chip is built onto a laptop's mainboard, not connected as a separate card like on a desktop computer. To replace a video card on a laptop you'd have to replace the entire mainboard, which would then have to fit into the chassis. Not very likely to happen.

As a regular member of the Techspot Community, I have seen *many* questions on video card upgrading and questions about video cards in general (not to mention my first thread was about a video card).

What many people don't realize is that when you start up a thread about a video card suggestion, you need to give us a lot of information. I have devised several lists of information suggested for the most complete, accurate responses.

1. Know your gaming limits -
Here at Techspot, we like to throw out expensive video cards at people who are looking into upgrading, so they can play almost anything. What you need to tell us is what kinds of games you play, whether you are a gaming "junkie" or a simple Sims 2 person. We DON'T know you (per say).

2. Tell us your budget -
This of all is the most important piece of information provided to us; it tells us where in the ballpark you are. This way we don't recommend you a card that costs 500 of your currency when you can only spend 100.

3. Tell us your Power Supply -
In order to run a video card, you need to have the proper power in your computer. You are not going to make it to the next-gen of gaming with a crappy generic power supply. What I suggest you purchase and own for a power supply would be of a known company (Thermaltake, and Antec to name a few). The most important thing that we need to know about the power supply is the rating of watts and the amperage on the "+12V. Rail".... Read more

A:Guide to video card upgrades/questions

Very good, possible sticky? You might want to note that the brand of the PSU is important, because a generic PSU rated with a 20A +12v may only deliver 15A of usable power. On the other hand, an Antec would usually deliver what they say it will.

Now that the XPS A10 8700 BIOS update is out, Chris-M would like to close the long Black screen of death thread.
Let's use this to post successes and links out to other forums with tips, tricks and how-to-resolve issues with high-end nVidia GTX cards.
This will help others choose wisely or perhaps find a solution to an already solved problem.
In the body of your post, if you have upgraded to a high-end nVidia GTX graphics card, please list the following.
* specific video card* exact driver version* Brand monitor and resolution and cable type: HDMI, DVI, Display Port or (yikes) VGA* specific power supply you are using if you upgraded or indicate Stock Dell 460W.
Ask questions, link to benchmarks, describe what has gone well and reflect on what you might have done differently.
I encourage AMD owners to start a similar discussion, but let us keep this thread to high end nVidia GTX cards only.

High end should imply above and beyond what Dell has shipped, or more than a GTX 660 or GTX 750ti.
GTX 760, 770, 780, 780ti, 970 and 980 graphics cards are what I would consider high-end.

A:Dell 2400 with P4 Motherboard, Processor, Video card upgrades?

Silly move. But if you are trying to fool your mother, find a board and a CPU that will fit in that little case, along with a 400+ watt power supply, heat sink, and such.
The biggest problem is the plastic tie-downs to hold the heat sink in place. They break.
It is easier and cheaper to get a board, cpu, power supply and memory as a package that try to fit something decent into that case.
The power supply is lousy. There is no room, and inadequte cooling.

So, I have an HP Pavilion g7-1075dx Notebook with Windows 7. I'm an avid gamer and wish to play the newest games. However, there's one problem thats keeping me from doing so. Alot of the newer games require newer video/graphics cards. This particular laptop has an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250. The newest games seem to require ATI Radeon HD 4850 and above. This is the only thing thats keeping me from playing games like Starcraft II on the highest settings OR in the case of Star Wars: The Old Republic, it almost keeps me from playing the game, period, due to the graphics being too much for my current card to handle, causing massive lag. I was hoping I could change the video card. Upgrade. However, i've heard that with most laptops or notebooks you can't upgrade anything other than the RAM. I'm hoping anyone on here can help me out and tell me if it is possible to get a new video card for my laptop. We don't have a desktop computer so this laptop is my only hope for a long time to play newer PC games.

Alright, let me put this in a simpler message: Does anyone know if it is possible to change the video card currently in my laptop, the HP Pavilion g7-1075dx, for a newer and better one. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 to ATI Radeon HD 4850 or higher.

I upgraded to windows 7 ultimate on my HP Pavilion a1110n, but I can't enable the aero, can someone tell me which graphics card I need?

A:Video card for HP Pavilion a1110n

alexmolinavr6 welcome to the Seven Forums.

The reason you can't enable Aero is due to the age of the onboard graphics (Intel 845G) is that it physically doesn't have the necessary hardware support for Aero. Now for the full specs on that HP of yours,

HP Pavilion a1110n Desktop PC Product Specifications HP Pavilion a1110n Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

and the motherboard in it,

Motherboard Specifications, P4GV-LA (Guppy) HP Pavilion a1110n Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

It only has PCI slots which severely limits what can go in it. Personally I wold live without Aero for now until you get a new computer that is fully Windows 7 compatible, but if you have to have Aero I wouldn't go for anything more or less than one of these (more costs to much and less doesn't have the support), - EVGA 256-P1-N400-LR GeForce 6200 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Video Card

I have HP Pavilion M9515Y bought "off the shelf" with integrated graphics. Seems the cooling doesn't work now. After the system is up for about 20 minutes, I can hear the fans start to surge, then the monitor shuts off.

I'm hoping a semi-cheap video add in card with roughly the same or a bit better performance would bypass the issue. The only card I've added to the system is an SIIG USB 3.0 card

I have an old CRT monitor that I share between 2 PCs using a kvma switch. So if the card has an SVGA connector that would be even better.

Anyone have any candidate cards?

edit: Never mind. Seems this is a dedicated video card. I'll just R&R with a cheapie.

I have a a350n HP Pavilion (OEM until last month) I upgraded the video card to (If I can remember correctly) an nVidia 5500 card. I was experiencing random reboots, so I went out and replaced the power supply from a 250W to a 430W. It still kept rebooting. I returned the nVidia card and now have an ATI Radeon 9550; same problem, keeps rebooting. I updated to the lastest Intel Chipset and upgraded to the lastest and only update for the BIOS. I turned off the automatic restart option in Windows so I now get the blue screen of death. When the computer restarts and I send the error report MS cannot determine the dirrect cause of the problem but recomends it may be a driver issue. The big problem now is I downgraded to an old PCI video card to make sure it is not the 256mg Video card. Same issues. Anyone know, does it sound like I need a new motherboard? I cannot think of anything else but I would hate to replace the board and find out its not the problem, 'cause I have to order it from HP. I have dissconnected everything I can from the board and it still crashes ( ie CD drives, Card readers, Floppy).

Also thought it may be an overheating issue, so I installed a 3rd fan in the case. CPU runs under a full load under 55 deg and the case doesn't get above 35 degrees. I used Everest Home edition to get the temps. Voltages also look good.

Hi everyone

I have a bit of a problem. I own an HP Pavilion 6350 and I just purchased a new video card for it (ATI Radeon 32 MB PCI.) My system lists that the current onboard card is a SiS 5597/5598.

When I plug my monitor into the new card, my monitor does not come on. From doing some research, I believe I am supposed to "disable" the onboard video card so that the system will use the new one.

Any ideas on just how I should do that?

BTW...I looked all over the HP support site (if that is what u want to call it) and found nothing. Also, I searched this forum and found a lot of people in very similar situations but not exactly this one so unfortunately, the advice there didn't help much.

I would appreciate any help. Thx in advance...

Hi everyone! First of all, I apologize for my english if it is not perfect but I'm not english, so I hope you don't mind too much. I'll try to explain the problem the best that I can.PCSo, I have bought this preassembled PC about 2 years ago and it must be said that it IS a very good machine, but the Video Card, a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti, which is now a bit obsolete, so I wanted to change it and I bought an Asus GeForce GTX 770 DirectCU II. I've also bought a new Power Supply of course, a B700 from Cooler Master, because the original one wasn't powerful enough for the new Graphics Card.Even if it is not that hard to replace a Video Card and a Power Supply I left the task to a more competent person. So, here is the problem, when we turn on the PC, the HP blue screen appears on monitor but it doesn't seem to leave the display. The PC is stuck at that blue screen even though the fans on the Video Card start to run as well as all the others of the machine. After a few seconds the Graphics Card emits a beep, a short one, and just one, but nothing appear on display, the blue screen remains there, and it is not going to disappear. We waited a little more and after about 15-20 seconds the Video Card emits another beep, identical to the previous one, but nothing happens. Then we turn off the machine. So we put the GTX 550 Ti back, and we uninstalled the main driver of the Video Card. Then we've replaced the Card, but the problem still there. It seems like the PC is unable to read... Read more

Hi All, I recently purchased a GTX1060 GPU card from nVidia on-line in an attempt to upgrade the capabilties of my 4 year old machine (from an MSI GeForce GT640) so that I'd be able to play Fallout 4 and Witcher 3 (both of which bring my poor old GT640 to its knees -- even on the lowest resolution settings).  It fits in the case and powers up (yes, I did plug in the 6-pin connector from the PSU), and the 600W PSU is adequate for the task, but I'm starting to think that I probably have a Motherboard compatibility issue. When I install the card and turn on the PC, it hangs at the setup splash screen (a common problem from what I've already read on these forums) and goes no further (keyboard and mouse are unresponsive at that point).  I've contacted nVidia support, and they've suggested a couple of BIOS changes (Disable Secure Boot, Enable Legacy/CSM Mode, and toggling BIOS Selection Mode between UEFI and Legacy modes), but when I access the HP Setup Utility (F10 upon boot-up with GT640 card installed), these options are not available to me. Is there any way for me to access the BIOS settings that nVidia has indicated I should be adjusting? Is this GPU card simply not at all compatible with my Motherboard? System Specs: HP Model Number: B4J28AV#ABA (Pavilion HPE h8-1380t)Motherboard: Pegatron 2ACE(Socket 0); 1.08; Intel Sandy Bridge-E Rev. 07; Intel Southbridge X79 Rev. 05BIOS: AMI 7.15CPU: Intel Core i7 3930K (3.2 GHz)OS: Windows 7 Profes... Hi, I have the same system. We have a non-EFI legacy BIOS. The 1060 is never going to initialize because it requires a UEFI BIOS. We cannot update our systems to a UEFI BIOS. You cannot run a UEFI graphics card such as an Nvidia 700, 900, or 1000 series products in your PC. The Nvidia 600 series cards are the last legacy cards made by Nvidia. You could consider a switchable BIOS AMD graphics's card. Unfortunately, comparable AMD cards are longer and require more power. For example, a Radeon 8 GB R9 390x is 12.1 inches long (which will probably not fit in your chassis) and the card alone requires 375 watts! Please see all available AMD options at You may as well build a new system if you are going to change the motherboard. Jay

Looking for some help. I recently purchased an HP Pavilion 500-314.  Specs are as follows: The unit includes integrated Radeon R7 graphics, and comes with a 300w power supply I purchased this unit in large part because it explicitly states that "Supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards".  I run a quad-monitor setup for my work, and have traditionally done this using an ATI Firepro 2450 card. I have now tried three different external graphics cards, and can get none of them to work: First attempt was with a VisionTec Radeon HD 5570 (item #900345).  This card supports quad monitor setup, and requires a minimum 250w power supply.  When I installed the card, the HP Pavilion repeatedly beeped a series of 4 or 5 (can't remember which) beeps, but refused to send an image to any video output (either onboard or the new card). Next attempt was with an EVGA GeForce GT 610.  This is a dual monitor setup, and requires a minimum 300w power supply.  Got the same exact response as with the VisionTec (i.e. series of would not fire any monitors up). So with both of these (new) cards, I basically gave up immediately as I couldn't even get into BIOS (b/c no monitors would work) to see what was going on.  My understanding is that the series of 4-5 beeps usually means that there is a graphics card issue, or that the card that has been added doesn't have sufficie... A:HP Pavilion 500-314: big problems adding external video card

Big_Dave, Thanks so much for your quick reply. The first time I spoke with HP Support, they had me disable secure boot.  Unfortunately my problems persisted (i.e. the cards wouldn't install properly).  However, after reading the link you provided I was inspired to try things one last time with a fresh start.  I uninstalled all drivers, removed all cards, re-engaged secure boot, rebooted, shut down, disabled secure boot, reinstalled the cards, and rebooted.  Lo and behold, this time the system accepted the GeForce GT 610 card. Hard for me to express how thankful I am to you.  I've spent two weeks and countless hours trying to get this fixed.  Just wish that I'd found these forums sooner. WallMonkey02

Firstly i went to to check what gfx cards my computer was compatible with. It told me PCI-express

I bought the above gfx card.
The gfx card installation CD doesnt have instructions for its specific type of card (X1300), just a bunch of other ATI Radeons, which is ridiculous.
Its made by Sapphire so it figures.

Well ive never done this before, ive installed RAM which is easy but ive heard this is a bit more complex. Ive been told i need to first uninstall my current video drivers and possibly disable the onboard. My Current card is on a Intelģ 82915G/82910GL Express Chipset Family motherboard. I also heard i have to hook a bunch of things up. Could anyone give me a walkthrough or point me in the direction of an installation guide?

A:Upgrading video card on HP Pavilion a1020n with ATI Radeon X1600 Pro PCI-e

Don't kill the messenger but....

It looks to me like for expansion slots, you are limited to PCI only. You do not have any PCIexpress slots on that motherboard, nor any AGP.

The card you purchased will not work in your system. You may want to wait for a second opinion before you toss it out your window, but I am 99.999999% sure.

My HP Pavilion 502n has on-board video. The computer turns on but will not display anything on the monitor- it'll just put the monitor to sleep. I tried 2 monitors and it has the same affect on both. I tried both monitors on another computer and they both work fine on it, which makes me think that the on-board video unit has failed.
how can I disable on-board video using "device manager" when I can' t see the display? I'd like to replace it with a video card- do I just install a sound card anyway and hope that it'll work?

A:Replacing failed on-board video w/ sound card on HP Pavilion 502n

You don't replace a graphics with a sound card. They're two different animals. Sure, you can install a sound card but you'll only get sound out of it. You replace graphics with a graphics card.

A:Video And Cd Upgrades

Have some ideas, but first, need some info: Is your system still under any warranty? They may void it if you start replacing parts without going through them....just a thought. If not under warranty, or you dont care:
I would compare the specs you have on the motherboard, CPU, RAM, Operating what they reccommend for the video card you want to put in.
External burners are either USB, Firewire....very fast, a bit more money, but great to work with, portable, etc. Internals- you of course have to have drive bay to install it, heat can be one issue, then you must have IDE connector to use....if you have a CDROM in there now, it should be a fast enough one to keep up with the burner when copying disc to disc....that can be a problem, but burn speed is adjustable, too. Burning can be a very technical thing, have you experience with this? The software you use makes a big difference...highly reccommend getting burner that comes with Nero Burning ROM....very good, but takes some learning and getting used to, lots of info available at their site.....the basic edition comes with free updates for a year or so, but there is a Premium edition you can purchase, too. I use an external USB 2.0 CDRW, had to buy a 2.0USB card as my system had only the older USB 1- 2.0 very big improvement, but you may have add in a card to use it. 2.0 devices are backward compatible with older USB, so you can use equipment like printers, with new 2.0, ports are same.

I currently have a system running 1 Geforce 7800 OC graphics card. My question is (and yes my computer is equipped with sli and able to run 2 cards) what are the benefits of running 2 cards? I have heard some people say it gives you 2x the graphics power and others have said it just allows for dual monitor support.

My pc is a gateway, but I upgraded about everything in it except the processor. It has the following "stats"

Amd 64 x2 dual core 4400+ proc
2gb RAM
320 gb HD
GeForce 7800 OC
Soundblaster x-fi

I wanted to use the pc for gaming, mainly, and am not interested in spending too much on an alienware or dell xps when I can get almost the same for less. I wanted to improve in the graphics department. I would have thought my setup all ready would look better but tests done on 3dmark come up pretty sad. So basically with my original question, would upgrading to an additional 7800 or 2 of the same of another brand actually improve what I want improved?

The only drivers that will work because of the screen's aspect ratio are the ones from the Toshiba site. If you try the ones from ATI, most of their features will be disabled and the screen size may be incorrect.

I've been wanting to upgrade my Chaintech AV-710 for a while now. It's a great audio, music, movie, DVD playback card (analog or digital), but it limited to EAX 2.0 in gaming.

I've done some research, and the Xtreme FaTly1 or summat is "best", but I just want something better than my AV-710 in gaming, sound good too for music, movies, dvds..and not have many problems with W7.

Xtreme Gamer has a best rating/seller on Newegg, but comparing its specs to the Xtreme Audio, I don't see much difference. There's also the now discontinued Xtreme Music, which is like the Gamer but with better DACs or op-amps. Also, there's Auzen Tech's X-fi series...but they seem abit too pricey.
FYI - My mobo is a miro ATX, and only has 1 usable PCI slot, and I think (maybe) I can fit a PCIe x1 card in there too. The chipset heatsink is right behind it, and might interfere. I'll try and get a shot in there to post later.

I would like to keep the price under $100, EAX 4.0 or better, PCI pref. but I might fit a PCIe 1x in also.

edit: pic attached

A:Sound Card Upgrades..

I've been running the XtremeGamer here on a few different builds with more then one card bought obviously since the X-Fi series came out. The XtremeAudio and Gamer models compared are slightly different only as far as things like seen in real life as far as gaming and running multimedia on WMP and other players.

Presently the XtremeGamer is reduced by $25 at - Creative 70SB073A00000 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer That's a grab for that model seen there.

As far as EAX effects and OpenAL Creative has the handle on that from the start being their main Sound Blaster unique feature their line up of cards offer since this is the application side more then the hardware side. Even on the lowest end models they carry you still see the EAX as well as the web updater seeing the latest drivers go on when installing.

Hi anorexicwallet.

As the issue started to occur after you changed RAM, it would better that you test your RAM modules for possible errors.

Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

I have been searching the Internet for many leads but have come up, empty handed. I am new to these forums, so I am not sure whether or not this is the correct area to be posting this in.

I have been looking to upgrade my old computer an Dell Dimension E520 to a more powerful computer, so it is able to run 3d based programs without an hint of lag. I have looked into getting new computers, but I'd rather upgrade the computer I have, so I can use it for a few more years.

My system specifications are as follows:

Computer: Dell Dimension E520

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x86 32 Bit

Bios: 2.04

Processor: Dual Core Intel Pentium D CPU 3.40GHz

Current Ram: 2Gb

Graphics Card: NIVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE (512mb)

Power Supply: 300 Watts

Bios Screen:

(I hope this is enough information)

and I would like to upgrade the ram to make use of the two extra slots so I can get 8Gb's and also upgrade the graphics card to an.

Although something I really want to know, is if the dell Dimension can handle the windows 7 64 Bit or do I have to go down to a lower OS?

Also has anyone done this before and does anyone have any advise for a suitable graphics card that will not overtax my power supply.

Thank you for reading, any help would be most appreciated.

Sean Hall.

A:Dell Dimension E520 - Possible upgrades (Ram, Graphics Card, OS)?

I had an E510 which is basically the same vintage. You are better off just buying a new PC rather than try to upgrade the hardware in the E520.

First, max memory, according to the Dell manual, is 4GB. If you upgrade the Video card you will need a new power supply. The Dell power supply is 300 watts and does not have a PCIe power connector. The motherboard is a BTX style and it has a Dell proprietary and undocumented front panel connector, thus you couldn't upgrade the motherboard (if you can even find a BTX style motherboard) and use the Dell case.

Better off to put whatever money you would spend on the limited upgrades into a new, modern technology, computer.

From the Dell manual:
MemoryType 533-MHz and 667-MHz dual DDR2 unbuffered SDRAM
Memory connectors four
Memory capacities 256 MB, 512 MB, or 1 GB non-ECC
Minimum memory 256 MBMaximum memory 4 GB

I've been looking to try and replace my graphics card on my latitude d820 laptop, but I'm not sure if there are any upgrades available.

It currently says it has a nVidia Quadro NVS 120M (Geforce Go 7400).

I was wondering, could any Geforce 8800 GT graphic card fit? Thanks for any help.

A:Any Graphics Card upgrades for a Dell Latitude D820?

No, it can't be upgraded. There are "some" standards, but it would be nice IF WE could do that.

The 8800GT card would require more power and have different heat characteristics which could cause problems. Different shape motherboards require different shaped graphic cards.

What gaming performance, buy either a desktop or a new notebook. Toshiba has a $1500 gamer notebook with a 9800/9600 card that is a good value.

So I've owned this alienware m17x r3 (Intel Core i7-2670QM // Radeon HD 6870M // 4 GB DDR3) for about 5 months now, and just recently it has started crashing immediately on startup, either when it reaches the login page for windows or soon after. There is no BSOD, I've used WhoCrashed and made sure dump files are enabled and nothing comes up. I've tried installing several different versions of AMD's drivers for the HD 6870M I have but none work. I've run a system diagnostic test through advanced startup options and there are no errors.

It works fine with no drivers installed or if I boot in safe mode, but I am at my wit's end here trying to get my system back in to working order. I've already tried reinstalling a fresh version of windows 7, and fully cleaning my drivers and reinstalling them and nothing is a permanent fix. An Intel Core i7 2600(95W TDP) and 2600s (64W TDP) is supposed to be supported. Are you certain that what you installed is not an Intel Core i7 2600k instead?

I was trying to speed up a Touchsmart 600   Info below:

Product #: AW023AV-ABA
[personal information removed]
Software Build #: 94NAv6PcA5
Service ID #: 011-610
PCBRAND: Pavilion
I search HP support and it says :
Memory: DDR3 SO-DIMM (200-pin)
Tyoe: PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333 MHz)
Of course when I google "DDR3 SO-DIMM (200-Pin) PC3-10600 i get all types of hits for HP Touchsmarts,  when I remove the (200-pin) from the search criteria i get all types of 204-pin RAM Sticks.
I would tend to beleive that HP's telephone support technicians in what sounds like india don't know and they're looking it up in their data-bases.  I believe the HP databases to be incorrect.  The best option is to remove a stick and see exactly what the label on the Memory Stick says, and then buy bigger sticks of the same RAM as in the computer.  I have 3 sticks to try,   DDR3 - 1066 MHz,  DDR3 - 1333MHz  & DDR3-1600MHz.  i think it's the

So I want to upgrade my RAM on the 320-1030. The specs page says "Two 200-pin DDR3 SO-DIMM sockets".It also says "Supports DDR3 SO-DIMMs" and specifically "PC3 10600 (1333 MHz)" and "PC3 12800 (1600 MHz)". Yet more HP contradictions (lies?)1) The parts page lists the item pre-installed is 572293-D88, a 204-pin item. See here, here, here, here, and here.2) Using the automated systems for major RAM sellers all indicate 204-pin RAM will work on the 320-1030. What gives?!?

Hi: I do not believe there is any such thing as a 200 Pin DDR3 SODIMM, so HP's reference to that is incorrect. A DDR2 SODIMM memory module is 200 pin, and a DDR3 SODIMM is 204 pin. Paul

Hi gang
In need of some troubleshooting ideas from the board of experts!

I have an Hp pavilion 6835 128 ram with 30 gig HDD 800 celeron processor.
this pc was a "GIVE ME" sort of thing and thought I would try an see if I could get it running but it has no vidio at all ...It has onboard video .
I have installed a different vid card and that doesnt seem to solve it either....changed the ram and still no joy!
I think the board itself is dead but just want to know if anyone else had any idea's to try?
I do get a series of beep codes at times when trying to boot it up
3 beeps then a space then 3 more
also the power switch doesnt shut the system down at all unless u hold it in and when u release it it starts up again

thanks in advance for any ideas

A:hp pavilion no video

Hi grybeard22!

Here are the closest related beep codes that you have stated.
You stated only a 3-3. If its constantly beeping 3 times with a pause. I would go with the 3-3-3-3.

Set time of day
Troubleshoot the motherboard.

Check key lock
Unlock the key lock, if it is locked.
Investigate possible problem with the key lock switch, if it is either unlocked already or not present on your system case.
Troubleshoot the motherboard.

Erase F2 prompt
Troubleshoot the video card.
Troubleshoot the motherboard.

Scan for F2 key stroke
Troubleshoot the motherboard.

Double check the beep codes if by chance its one of these codes. It looks like a bad system board.

Any other questions post back in this thread!
Good luck!

I am totally obsessed with downloading music, but awhile ago I attemped to download an upgrade to the basic Kazaa system. Once I had fully downloaded the upgrade I went to click on Kazaa and a message popped up saying," You have uninstalled a part of Kazaa needed to run and to close and reinstall." (I believe it was called error 1030, I'm not positive though) Anyway, I uninstalled Kazaa and reinstalled several times and the same message keeps appearing.I checked to make sure I had all the needed componets to run Kazaa aswell. I can't figure out what to do. I tried other music sources but I can't find one I like as much as Kazaa. If you know what I should do please HELP!!

A:Kazaa Error 1030, any adivse?

What I would do is:

1. Use a spyware scanner to delete all the spyware that comes with the Kazaa download
2. uninstall Kazaa using the JV16 power tool
3. Do a file search for Kazaa and delete all of the files that are found.
4. Backup the registry
5. Use Jv16 power tool to clean the registry.
6. If you want to and are brave enough, do a manual search for useless Kazaa keys in the registry (be sure to have a backup if you do this)
Reinstall the latest Kazzaa with all of its Spyware. (Perhaps you might want to try Kazaa Lite)

Hi, I hope someone out there can shed a little light on this situation as it's doing my nut in!

We have a network with 3 Windows 2003 servers and workstations all with XP. When the users log in a script runs which maps network drives and pushes printer connections etc. Also we have several group policies set which restrict pupils and staff in certain ways. Nothing drastic though. Just 'Cant see certain Control Pannel Items etc'.

Now all was working perfectly until a couple of weeks ago 2 staff members came to me and said "I can't get on the interenet or e-mail". I had a look and when they logged in on their normal computer it seemed to log in fine but then receieved a couple of "Cannot perform this action due to restrictions on effect on this computer" messages. This message also appears when they try to click on the Internet for example. On closer inspection it has run the scripts ok because I have the shared drives and printers. But the virus scanner which is sophos in our case hasn't loaded (it comes down from the server), also there is no All Programs in the start menu, or shut down.

If I log off and check the event viewer I have event 1030 there which refers to an error with group policy.

Now the most annoying problem is it appears completly random with it's timing. Usually a shut down and restart of the computer fixes it. Moving to another computer can also fix it. It dosent always do it on the same computers, other peolpe can log on to ... Read more

Hello, we have recently purchased several HP Elitebook 1030 G1 notebooks. These come with Windows 10 out of the box, and no discs at all. HP seem to offer a Windows 7 recovery disc via drivers & downloads but this only seems to be for drivers and applications post-Windows 7 install. We still use Windows 7 (Enterprise x64) deploying via SCCM. As the laptop doesn't have a LAN port HP support suggested getting an HP USB-C to Ethernet adapter, but this doesn't seem to help with PXE boot. So moving onwards, I then attempted to do a manual install of Windows 7 x64 via USB. Initially it didn't even boot without turning off secure boot and turning on legacy boot. As the laptop has an M.2 ssd it is not even found by the setup process. I have now gone through adding sata and usb3 drivers via dism to boot+install wim's and also an MS hotfix for NVMe support ( Unfortunately after all this it is still not able to see the hard drive. Unless I am going blind I cannot see any information about this on HP Support. Has anyone done this on this model notebook or similar (ie M.2 ssd)? Thanks

I am looking for suggestions for video cards for an HP 501n Pavilion PC. It has an on-board video card now that uses up to 11 mb of the installed RAM. I would like to upgrade to at least a 16mb card. I don't do much gaming but I have run across some applications that are requiring more video memory. I tried unsuccessfully to upgrade to a 16mb ATI Expert 128 card several months ago and it just did not seem to work. It would recognize the card but then it would not continue to use it correctly and the display was horrible. From my research at that time, I should be able to install and use another video card (HP says so and I have seen threads about it) but I would like to know if anyone has any recommendations that they have gotten to work in situations similar to mine? Thanks.

I have a HP Pavilion XT983 with a AMD processor. Recently the video stop working(black screen on monitor), I try a new monitor and it still will not work and I hooked another computer to the HP monitor and the computer work so I know I narrowed it down to the video card or the motherboard. So I bought a PCI video card from Wal-Mart put it in the HP computer and hook the monitor up the PCI video card and still no video just a black screen. So next I thought it could be the motherboard so I bought a new motherboard off of ebay the buyer said it worked so I put the AMD processor out of my old computer into the motherboard I bought off of ebay and hook everything back up, still no video. The motherboard I bought off of ebay had a AGP slot so next I bought a AGP video card off ebay , put the AGP card in the motherboard I bought off of ebay and still no video. I donít know what else to do, so I am open for suggestion I really want to get this computer working so if anyone can help me please write me back.

First up, hello everyone.

I have XP computers connected to a SBS2003R2 domain that is posting 1030 Userenv errors in the eventlog. I've not checked them all but three of them definitely are, so we can presume they all are.

Through Userenv.log, I've wiggled it down to two variants of:

USERENV(314.480) 21:50:37:892 ProcessGPO: CheckFilterAcess failed for <CN={C94DA5DA-A892-44ED-B77D-618A143ED5CC},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=[domainname],DC=local>. Filter not found

Followed by many of the following that correlate with the eventlog errors:

USERENV(318.868) 09:47:24:929 ProcessGPOs: GetGPOInfo failed.

My question is - whereto from here? OUs, GPO and the such is on the edge of my knowledge. It seems that if I can find what GPO is failing, I'm there.

A:Eventlog 1030 and userenv GetGPOInfo failed

I would suggest since you are apparently having troubles with a Small Business Server that you ask to have this post moved to the Networking forum here at TSG. You will get a better response there. You can do this by clicking the little triangle at the top right corner of the window and ask a moderator to please move this thread to that forum

These event just started appearing a day or two ago, but they continue to repeat every 5 minutes:

Event 1030:
Windows cannot query for the list of Group Policy objects. Check the event log for possible messages previously logged by the policy engine that describes the reason for this.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

Event 1058:
Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO CN={31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=bbpi-pdc,DC=billsblue,DC=com. The file must be present at the location <\\\sysvol\\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\gpt.ini>. (Windows cannot find the network path. Verify that the network path is correct and the destination computer is not busy or turned off. If Windows still cannot find the network path, contact your network administrator. ). Group Policy processing aborted.
They occur exactly every five minutes, and always in this order. I searched for the gpt.ini file it's looking for and found it.

I don't really have any group policies in place, just basic users and computers. Nothing fancy. And I'm afraid I don't quite understand AD enough to just 'experiment' until I make these error go away.

Any ideas and/or guidance would be welcome.... thanks

One possibility:
As per Microsoft: "This behavior may occur if the following conditions are true: your Windows XP-based computer is a member of a domain, and the Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS) client is turned off (disabled). To resolve this issue, turn on (enable) the DFS client". See M314494 to find out how to do this. Also check M810907 for a hotfix.

I noticed my wireless 1030 is acting strange after getting BSOD(not the cause of Wireless but it was solved)and now I'm experiencing some problems, here are the issue. I'm worried if it is the NIC card it takes a while to connect to a certain webpage then whenI looked up on Event viewer it stated in the lines of Google too long to respond DNS

2. sometimes the wireless would switch off by itself and when I try to reconnect to my home router it says "Cannot find my router* yet I can see it shows my wireless router is available then when I look up event viewer it states " NETBIOS over TCPIP has entered Stop state".

I would have to click on

It almost sounds like a nic driver issue. Have you updated it recently? Try to update, or roll-back if update did not work.
Replacing your nic should not be to hard depending on your device. Usually the nic is the easiest of the add-on boards to get to. But, I really don't think it's the nic. Were you changing, installing, updating anything with your hardware, operating system when this happened? If driver update/rollback doesn't work, try a system restore if feasible.
