Hi all!

I'm having a bit of a trouble with my eMachines netbook M250. I was going to contact their customer support, but for some reason their services kept telling me that "That serial number is not in our database".
I'm hoping you guys can help me!

I have 3 laptops and a desktop PC. Two of my laptops are connected through wireless and my Desktop PC through a cable. Now this small isnt finding the wireless network my other computer are connected to. It has found all other wireless networks, tons of them (neighbors, city wifi, etc), but just cant find my home wifi.

I have reinstalled windows XP and reinstalled the wireless drivers. Also checked that they're the newest out there.

EDIT: I found a solution to this problem. Once I changed the Channel Selection settings from my router from Auto to 1 (out of 13), My laptop could find the wifi!
After changing it back to "Auto" it loses the connection to the wifi. The "Auto" selection chooses channel 13, which is the channel with the least noise, according to the channel scanner of the router.
Is there any cause to worry that I have chosen Channel 1? Why cant my laptop find the wifi when the router is set to Channel 13?

Thanks,
dertzi

A:One Laptop can't find home WiFi, All other laptops can

the US are only allowed to use channel 1 to 11 and some machines sold still have that restriction - Europe can use 1-13 - hence the router is switching to 13

there maybe a setting in the wireless adapter properties to allow you to use channels 12 & 13 (Japan are allowed to use 14)

goto device manager and network adapters and right click on the adapter - choose properties and see if anything there helps

Lets see the wireless networks and channels in use - use xirrus and post a screen shot

channels 1, 6 and 11 are the most common used, as they do not overlap - so wee need to look at signals greater than -80 and see what channels are in use around you

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

I have a HP Notebook 15. I restarted my laptop this morning and when it came back on, all options for connecting to the internet via WiFi were gone. I am able to connect to the internet via ethernet cable, and everything works this way. There are no options whatsoever to connect to WiFi or reset the connection or anything, however the WiFi itself is working because other devices in the house are connected to it. I followed a HP technical support online page, which provided step-by-step instructions of various ways to reconnect to WiFi but nothing worked. I tried restarting the computer, updating the driver software, making sure it wasn't in airplane mode, and troubleshooting. Nothing worked. What should I try next?

Hi @jgkelly2, Welcome to HP Forums! I understand that wireless connection stopped working on your laptop. I want to help. Please run the Component test - Wireless Module to verify if the wireless network adapter is functioning well.HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 8) If the test failed, the wireless adapter needs to be replaced. Recently had this issue on my laptop where if i restart/shut down and turn it back on it'll be disconnected from my wifi and won't be able to connect or see the network on the bottom right.
The laptops able to connect and find to all other wifi networks in my area except mine.
But on other devices im able to connect to my wifi network just fine, only this laptop has issues unless i reboot my router with the laptop still on then im able to see my network until i restart my laptop again and have the same issue over again.

Im unsure if its a problem with my laptop or the router since the laptops able to connect to find other routers in my area. But at the same time my other devices are able to connect to this router. Also it's a Dlink DIR-826L

I've tried:
Turning off auto channel scan on my router and manually selecting channels 1-11
Resetting the router
Updating wireless drivers on the laptop
Updating the routers firmware

Hello.. I'm new to this, so please forgive me if I make any mistakes.

For about a month now, I haven't had an WiFi at my house. I used to have something called Netgear that worked fine on my iTouch, but then it stopped connecting to the internet. However, Netgear still showed up. Next, linksys began showing up occasionally and only in some areas of the house, instead of everywhere like Netgear. Linksys was the only connection that would work all the time.

In early June, both WiFi's stopped showing up. The internet access for the Wii upstairs also stopped working.

Netgear is the name of my router and Windstream is the modem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

A:Can't find wifi

Hi:Not much to go on,but generally when this situation occurs after a re-install/re format,It is a driver issue.
Take a look at device manager. What is the status of the wireless adapter?
Let’s take a look at the status of the network adapters

Device manager:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.
1. Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
2. Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
3. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?
4. should be enabled and working properly.
5. If error code,what is it ?
Look at the driver section for the adapter.Note what is installed and where it resides.

I would also go to the pc makers web site, download and install:
chipset driver and network adapter drivers for XP.

Hi: If the USB driver from the support page didn't work, try the one directly from Intel. Download, unzip and run the setup.exe file. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/22824/USB-3-0-Driver-Intel-USB-3-0-eXtensible-Host-Control... Your notebook can come with several different model wireless cards, so you need to know the model wireless card your notebook has so you can install the correct driver. Here is the link to the user guide for your notebook.  Chapter 2 shows the locations of the various items and keys. http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=7609933&docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c04...

I just bought a NetGear Wireless USB adaptor to use while travelling. I'm running a laptop with WinXP (SP2). I have cable internet at home and don't want to change everything over to wireless at this point, so testing it has been tricky.

I drove over to my local internet cafe just to configure it. I know it was able to detect the network of the cafe, because it knew the name of the place. However, it never got past "acquiring network address" although I waited about 10 minutes. Is this the IP address?

I sometimes have trouble with this computer being unable to find the IP address on my cable internet, so I just go in and key in the address. My question is, is that IP address my computer's address? Can I key that in? or was something wrong? And should I use the NetGear network config utility, or the one that came with Windows?

How to fix wireless connection issues

1. Make sure all wireless devices are using the same mode, infrastructure in the most cases.
2. Make sure all wireless devices have the same SSID.
3. Make sure all wireless devices have the same WEP encryption settings if you have enabled them.
4. Make sure you have added the wireless MAC into MAC Address Control if you enable it.
5. Use ipconfig and ping to test the connection. All wireless devices must be in the same IP range.

Hello,
I'll try my best English to describe the problem (i'm Dutch).
Recently i bought a router/acces point for my new appartment, model linksys wap300n.
Router installed, changed network name and gave it a password (did this with the CD that came with the router). Both my laptop and phone (apple) can find the wifi network, works perfect.
The actual problem is my roommate can't find the network on his laptop (windows 10), but can on his phone (apple) when the network name is changed or given a password. I tried resetting the router, then he can find the network, but as soon as the network name is changed/is given a password he can't anymore. Tried changing the network name/password on his laptop, works, but then his laptop can't find the network anymore.
Searched the internet for answers to my problem, without results.
Anyone who knows how to solve this?
Thanks in advance!

A:My HP 250 G3 Notebook Cant find my Wifi

Hi: The only suggestion I can offer is to make sure your router is broadcasting from the 2.4 GHz wireless band. If you have your router set to 5.0 GHz only, that would be why the Ralink wireless adapter can't find your network, but it can see many others. That card can only work on the 2.4 GHz wireless band.

Somehow an app called WeFi found its? way onto my daughter?s laptop (she does not know how it got there). It seems to have hijacked her laptops ability to find WiFi both at her house and at ours. I deleted WeFi but the problem still exists. When I look at the network connections, it says the wireless network card is not enabled.

I?ve tried the usual things (disable then enable, delete the driver and install the latest driver from the manufacturer etc.) and it still does not ?enable? or find our WiFi. I?m desperate for help because, as the Dad, I?m expected to be able to fix everything.

I can't find the bluetooth under the devices section, it won't appear. Altho, it does appear on the commando center from time to time (no function whatsoever), just to dissapear again. Same thing goes for wifi - it's not there. I've basically given up on trying to fix it so I'd appreciate all the help i can get.

A:Cant find 5G Wifi connection.

Hi: It is very easy to tell if the wireless network adapter in your PC can connect to both the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz bands. Go to the device manager, and click to expand the Network Adapters device category. There you will find the name and model number of the wireless network adapter. If the suffix of the adapter ends in b/g/n, then it is a single band (2.4 GHz) only wireless adapter. If the suffix of the adapter ends in a/b/g/n or a/g/n, then it is a dual band wireless network adapter.

I just moved into an apartment with preexisting wifi and I haven't been able to get my new Lenovo laptop to connect. I'm going a little mental. My computer finds and connects to other wifi networks, but the apartment's wifi doesn't show up as an option. I don't think the router is the problem. My roommates are connected and it works fine for them, but they had it set-up a long time ago and can't help me out. I've also tried the restart router thing and it didn't make a difference. I'm assuming the problem is that someone (probably the person who used to have my room) set network to invisible. I've manually entered the information to connect to the hidden network, and my computer recognizes that the network exists. A window appears that says something like, "This network already exists, would you like to connect to it?" When I click to connect the window goes away, but that's it. The network still doesn't appear as an option and I still don't have internet. If anyone has any ideas that would be really helpful!

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need will need to have NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.
On windows 8 - (i do not have windows 8) but, it would appear that, When you first try to run, you may get a message that .net framework is needed, and included in that message is a link to download/install.

A:Laptop Won't Find My WiFi Network

and welcome to the Forum

Are you sure the wireless router is set to broadcast a SSID ( the name you see when you search for signals)

The laptop should have either a sliding switch that turns the wireless on and off, or a FN + F key that does it.

lease Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Who knows or where can I find out what these mean? For example, QoS I turned off as I want my youtube videos loading as fast as possible and not slowed down etc..

but the others I've never heard of..

is there a website that explains all advanced settings on wifi cards?

A:Where to find out what advanced Wifi options mean???

LDPC is called low density parity check code and is a correction error which I would turn off for a faster connection. VHT & HT are called Very High Througput and High Throughput which refers to PHY rates of 6.5 Mbps to 433 Mbps per stream. TX is called Transmit stream and RX is called Receiving stream.

Stbc is called Space Time Block Coding which is part of 802.11n and 802.11ac MIMO. I would leave the settings disabled for the "StbcCap"

To be honest, I would never touch the settings with WiFi except for "Wireless Mode".

Recently moved flat (now living in Paris, laptop bought in England although I don't think this would affect my problem though I am completely computer illiterate).Trying to get on to the wifi network in the new flat and the computer just says no wifi networks found. I've tried everything simple like turning the wifi on and off both on the computer and at the box, my phone connects just fine so I know there's no issue with the actual wifi.Have tried to find a solution on here but none seem to be for windows 10, and I'm not sure what to do.Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

As a side note - option for 32 and 64 bit windows 10, no idea which it is, or if that would be relevant

Hi,

So my computer has been having multiple problems and it's driving me crazy. If I had the money, I would literally just get a new one and this one is only a year and a half old.

A few months ago, my laptop had this issue. I would turn it on and it would have a red "X" over the Internet Access icon on the start bar near the time. I would restart my laptop or uninstall the driver and reinstall it to fix it, which worked temporarily. Then it didn't work anymore and I had to plug in my laptop into my router to use the internet.

I went to Office Depot and they told me to just delete it and reinstall in from ASUS's website. I did and it worked but now I'm having the same issue again among others. I'm not even sure if I installed the correct driver although I made sure to research and everything before doing it and it did work back then. Now, it's doing the same issue and i don't know what to do at this point.

My laptop is an ASUS x550C (http://www.nix66.ru/images/photo/p/t...raft_large.jpg) running Windows 7 64 bit Professional. I'm not very good with computers in terms of all the detailed taking it apart so please don't ask me to do that. I think I'd just make it worse as I probably already have with just this.

A:ASUS Laptop cannot find wifi

Ok Clueless mate sounds very much like a problem I had with my new Asus ROG gamer laptop and I found the local Service Centre (if you can find one locally to you) was so much more help than the global and "local" (call centre in the Philippines) Asus sites but that is something you will have to find for yourself.

But in the meantime these are the latest drivers for your machine and it is always best to get them from the manufacturers as personally I find the Windows update feature not really much good.
http://www.asus.com/au/Notebooks_Ult...Desk_Download/ < from these download and install the LAN and wireless ones (just open them out and download the latest - usually the top ones) the others we might need to have a look at later.

Let us know how you get on and don't worry I don't think it will involve taking anything a part.

Just two things you can do are run these to make sure the OS system is running ok
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2
You can do that in safe mode if you want (power off and then power on while tapping F8)

I just bought a msi s30 laptop yesterday. So everything went fine when I test the wifi connection before I go to sleep. When I say fine, I mean I could connect to the internet. Then when I woke up this morning, I turn on the wifi but it says "no network found". I check the router and it is working perfectly fine. I also checked the device driver and its also working properly. I can't seem to find the problem. Please help

A:Wifi is on on but no laptop can't find network!!!! Please

Perhaps you have set your router to disable SSID broadcast, and you didn't save the WLAN settings before powering down (ie didn't select 'connect automatically') ??

Q's

1. Can you connect wired?
2. What WLAN symbol is showing in the notification area?
3. open a cmd screen and type ipconfig /all then post the resulting output

Hey. Sorry if this is asked here frequently, but Google hasn't been any help to me.

My girlfriend has Toshiba Satellite notebook with an Intel BG2200 integrated wifi card in it. She configures it through Intel's ProWireless software. The WiFi card works flawlessly sometimes. She lives in an apartment building, so there are numerous networks available (10+). It connects to her own router (which is one room over). Has a strong signal. Everything is good.

Other times (which are becoming much more frequent), the card can't find any networks at all. Not hers or any of the other 10 usually up in her building. Turning on and off the card either through software or the hardware switch does nothing. Rebooting the computer does nothing. Both her roomate's computer and their Wii have no problems connecting, so I think the router is fine. Its just her WiFi card that doesn't seem to work. Eventually things will start working again, but it can be a day or so before it fixes itself.

Her birthday is coming up, and I'm thinking about just getting her a new card, but before I do, I'd like to know if there's some easier solution for this. If more info would help, just ask. I might have to sneak in and look it up though.

Hello

I've got a Belkin wirless router in my flat. My XP netbook and iPod Touch can connect fine, but my Vista laptop won't find it. It will however detect the other 10 or so wireless networks in neighbouring properties.

I have done a hard reset and deleted the old network connection settings, but still Vista will not detect it. It was working fine then just vanished last night.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Neil

A:Vista can't find wifi router, but XP & iPod can?

Does it work if near the router
Does it work if you connect the PC by Cable if, so you can Try downloading Xirrus and copy to the vista PC also try removing all the wireless profiles , if not a system restore may work

Download and install - Let us know if it finds your wireless network and what the NAME of the wireless network is
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php
Then run the program
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.

Taken the IDE hard drive (with Windows 8.1 installed) out of HP Pavilion 15-e72sa laptop and replaced it with a Crucial SSD drive, then installed Windows 7 but cannot get an internet connection. There are yellow warning markers in Device Manager next to the Network Adapter and Ethernet Controller. The laptop has a Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11bgn Wifi Adapter for which I can only find a driver which is for Windows 8. Tried and tried to find a suitable Windows 7 driver version to no avail. I would really appreciate any advice.

A:Can't Find Network Wifi Adapter Driver

qurios, welcome to the windows 7 forum. Have you looked at the HP website for the model of laptop?
they usually have drivers for most OS's. Sometimes the Vista driver will work on windows 7 if it is an older laptop.

you need the motherboard drivers as well as the network device drivers and video card drivers.

Would the device manager show any yellow tags on the network adapter.
If so reinstalling proper WLAN drivers may help .

If not the try to turn off and unplg the pc . Press power down for 12 seconds and turn on .
Tapping F1 for the BIOS , check on wireless configuration is enabled and f9 to reset defaults, F10 save and exit .

Manually check also the WLAN card and reseat it as needed , check if the cables are secured (page 35-36) then restart . Would there be any Wifi icon at the lower part of the desktop screen ?

Hello,

After a clean install of Windows 7, 32bit, I am having unable to locate and get my wifi working.

I have previously had no issues with it working when I was running Windows 7, 64 bit on it.

Everything works apart from the wifi. I have no yellow triangles in my Device Manager tree. My Network Controller states it is working fine. However, when I run the Windows Network Diagnostics is just says: "There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection adapter". (No sheet Sherlock)

Anyone any suggestions of what to try?

Hello and thanks for your input. The following are currently connected to my Huawei router: desktop - via ethernetprinter (HP Photosmart Plus B209a-m) - via wireless LANlaptop (HP EliteBook 8560p) - via wireless LAN (internet working fine) I recently upgraded both the desktop & laptop to Windows 10 (64 bit) from Win 7. I have no problems printing from the desktop, however after repeated printer re-installs the laptop is now unable to detect the printer on my network (even when I supply the correct IP address). Before the first re-install it said the printer was disconnected (at the same time as I was able to print from the desktop). Can you please tell me what's missing or what I need to do to fix this? Thanks again. I have just added the above screenshots showing what happens during installation of the printer on my laptop - at this point I have it connected to the printer via a USB link as instructed. It is also on my wireless LAN and (to repeat) I have no problem using it wirelessly to print from the desktop m/c.

Try reseating the wireless adapter

If the adapter is easily accessible, usually through a cover on the bottom of the laptop.
Remove the power adapter and also the Battery before doing the following
Remove and reinsert carefully and firmly several times to cure any possible looseness or corrosion.
At the same time check to make sure the antenna leads are securely attached.

Note: This is not taking the machine apart. I do not recommend removing the keyboard when that is necessary to find the wireless, unless you are experienced in this sort of disassemble.

There are often some good examples of how to disassemble laptops on "youtube" and you should see if the wireless card is on the bottom of the laptop

Heres an example (they do vary) of a wireless card - with the clips where the aerial leads usually clip

Hi All, My 3-year old Notebook has suddenly developed WiFi Internet access issues. For the past month, my WiFi connection has dropped intermittently, sometimes for hours. After running diagnostics, receive various error messages: Cannot find gateway, cannot connect to this network, ethernet adapter is unplugged, have not specified connection for wifi adapter. A few germane notes: 1. Router (from ISP) is functioning properly and signal is strong, usually 100% when connection suddenly drops.2. No bluetooth running, no other network connections except an HP printer.3. Distance minimal -- I am in the next room from router -- and no new 'obstacles' (metal/concrete) between myself and router.4. Have disabled/enabled all adapters including the WiFi, have removed, replaced, & freshly logged on to wireless connection.5. Even hardwired ethernet connection showed trouble being recognized.6. Contrary to error messages, everything set properly in 'Settings'.  Have never had this problem before; are the network adapters on this notebook just failing? (Atheros & Realtek).  Thanks for your help, Kate

So I am attempting to connect to the wifi network at my girlfriends place, which I have done fine previously, but my laptop cant find it at all. I have tried restrarting my laptop, installing new drivers for the atheros wireless adaptor, resetting the router, but it still wont show up. It connects fine to other (older and newer) devices, and works fine when connected via ethernet cable, but it is hardly practical to sit on top of the router all day.

My laptop detects other networks fine, such as those of the neighbors and connects to my own home network fine. I have also tried deleting the saved network and manually connecting to the network while also checking the box about connecting even if the network is not broadcasting its SSID. Still nothing. I also checked power management settings and made sure it the network adaptor was using max performance power settings.

Previously when I set up their router, it was broadcasting on a single channel between 1 and 11, cant remember exactly which, and I have no reason to believe they have changed it.

I've read through hundreds of posts trying to figure out my issue. Unfortunately, I've been unsuccessful.

Here's the issue, I was given a new laptop for work and it connects fine to our secure wireless network at the office, but when I brought it home it will not connect to my wireless network at home.

When I try to connect to my network at home the wireless manager sits and spins saying "trying to acquire network address". I have 2 iPhones, 1 eMachine and 1 Macbook connected to my network working fine and dandy. However, the HP laptop from work simply won't connect unless wired.

I have tried the following:
1. Uninstalled and reinstalled the driver.
2. Power Cycled my Router
3. Power Cycled my entire network
4. WinsockXPFix tool

I'm completely at a loss here. No idea what to do to fix this. I'm running Windows XP and have a 2Wire router.

I appreciate any advice anyone can give me to help solve this annoyance.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something here.  We purchased a Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter, and it appears to be working.  The issue we are having is when my laptop is connected to the wifi network (LAN), it doesn't find the wireless adapter.
If I disconnect from the wifi network, it finds the wireless adapter and connects fine.  It appears that my laptop isn't creating a Wifi Direct connection when searching for the Adapter and therefore can't connect to the wireless adapter unless
the wifi is disconnected and therefore available.  Does anyone have experience with this, and ideas?
I haven't yet tried other laptops, but we did test with an Andriod phone, and that connected fine, and was also connected to the Wifi (LAN) at the same time. The laptop is Windows 8.1, and appears to be miracast compliant. (the search for wireless display
button is available)

Thank you!

so the problem seems to be very specific to the connection between these specific devices.

the laptop in question is a thinkpad e420 running windows 7.

I have issues connecting my Laptop to the Wifi router in my house, however, there are no issues connecting to other routers? You would therefore assume that the issue lies with the router at my house. However, every other device and laptop connects to the router at my house with no issues at all. So it seems to be specific to the combination of my laptop and the router at my house. I have been having these issues ever since I downloaded Windows 10. I fixed it initially by downloading an old driver for the Wifi on my laptop. This fix lasted for about 3 months but since the latest windows update, the issue has come back. The issue is intermittent wifi where it shows I am connected to the Wifi but then the internet doesn't work. It says "DNS probe cannot be found" when running troubleshooter and then it resets the wifi on my laptop. This can temporalily fix it, sometimes for 2 seconds. Sometimes for 2 hours. But then the issue comes back. Does anyone have any clue what the issue might be or how I might fix it? Sometimes, when I run the troubleshooter, it says that I have missing protocols. But then this doesn't happen every time. I have tried a variety of fixes that I have read up on in forums but none seem to work permantly. One thing I haven't tried is a clean install of windows 10 which is something I am very reluctant to do and also, have my doubts as to whether it would actually resolve the issue.
Many thanks,
Joe

A:Wifi issue specific to my laptop and home wifi

It all depends on location, location, location. Some Gateways are just garbage. If you are not getting a strong enough signal, get an Access Point. Also you need to make sure that you are not on a congested channel, which is usually Channels 6 & 11 for 2.4 Ghz units.

Hi there,

I have a new problem that has just cropped up today. I am no longer able to connect to public wifi or my phone's wireless hotspot. My laptop either will not connect or connect with limited access. It has connected without issue in the past and as soon as I returned home it connected to my wifi here.

What I did notice is I am connected to an unidentified network with no internet access in addition to my home wireless network:
Specs:
Acer Aspire S7 392
Windows 8.1 64 bit
Intel Dual Band Wireless 7260 (driver updated)
Disabled my firewall and antivirus

I just connected to my phone's hotspot again and here is what I am coming up with:
Attachment 57082

And when I run ipconfig/renew
Attachment 57083

Any ideas what could be causing this?

recently i was having major computer issues on my desktop, i did a full restore to factory settings and after doing a few windows updates i found that my network adaptor was not finding any signals. it does not show up in the change adaptor settings page or in the device manager page. when i troubleshoot my internet connection it says an ethernet cable is not properly plugged in. I have a desktop computer but it definately has a wireless network card. i used to get windows updates for it and it just stopped working one day. when i look in the BIOS the only option related to booting a network card is B03 D00 Yukon PXE. no matter when i boot it i still dont get wireless signals. when i go into the boot menu and try to boot this device it says " PXE E61: media test failure please check cable" i have opened the tower and the card is securely in its slot. i thought i would workaround by getting a usb wifi card. I installed it and connected to the internet and it alternated between having a connection to the internet and being connected to the network but not the internet. even when it is connected to the internet i cannot reach any web pages. my dropbox desktop files update very slowly (7kb/s). when i am connected with the usb card the network stops working for everyone else in the house. they can no longer reach web pages or continue downloads. please help.

About a week ago, our cable internet connection went out. Before I had a chance to reboot the modem & router, my 11 year old decided to completely reset the router to factory settings! Ugh! This caused several issues: my home network is now gone, only a unsecured factory network is available. When I try to plug my laptop into the router via ethernet cord (in order to login to router and setup secure network) my computer will not recognize the router and won't connect to internet. I tried troubleshooting with my cable provider and they say it's in my computer (IP address will not reset) and he recommended I replace my network card. However, today when I brought my laptop to work, it will instantly recognize the wifi at work. So is it really my network card that is causing issues? Please help, I'm desperate and not tech too tech savvy!

can you connect the pc directly to the router with a cable and then

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file to the faulty PC and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

Hi Guys,
This is Viral. I am using an Acer laptop model ASPIRE 4736 since the last five years. There haven't been much issues with it. except for the battery and thats it. But recently, since last two weeks I noticed that my Wifi would stop blinking after sometime after I start my laptop and then it wouldn't work even when I try to turn on and turn off the Wifi switch(it doesn't respond anything). I tried searching the net for this issue using my office laptop and found that a system restore would help to solve this issue. Since I remembered that I updated Java as well as there was this ad software which got installed and I had unistalled it. So I did a system restore and then when I opened the device manager, I am not able to see intel r wifi link 5100 driver on it. I tried restarting my laptop and did everything and couldn't find the driver(it was there before the system restore). But later on the same day, the driver got installed automatically and the WiFi started working but only for a couple of minutes after the restart and then it stopped. So  I did the system restore again to the date when everything was working perfectly and when i did that, again my intel r wifi link 5100 driver is not shown on the device manager(network adapters). I don't if it would automatically get installed or not but its sure that the WiFi issue still be there. So can you please help with this issue?

Hi there

This USB Wifi adapter seems to be a MEGA performer --Lovely finally to be able to THINK of getting rid of LAN cables all over the place.

I've no probs with decent HD Movie streaming from a SERVER with one of these (I unplugged the LAN and inserted the USB Wifi adapter into a USB3 slot --note this needs genuine USB3 to work at proper speed). My Home router can deliver 802.11ac so no probs there.

Brilliant piece of kit and NO MORE CABLES !!!!!!. Wifi will soon be able to deliver comparable speeds to LAN especially for HOME networks. !!!

Here's the UK Link but is available in US and Europe. In any case it's delivered (in my case) by Amazon S.A.R.L (Luxembourg) so no tax !!!. even though I ordered from UK web site --they will ship outside UK tax free.

I've had experience this problem for a while now on my newly built windows 10 rig. Every few hours, my Wifi simply stops working; the connection is lost. Sometimes it reconnects after a minute or so. Most of the time, I would need to manually disable/enable the wifi adapter in my Network Settings to get it back up again.

It happened with a relatively expensive adapter that I bought not to long ago - Netgear A6210 USB 3.0 dual-band wifi adapter. I found a thread about this issue here. I've not been able to resolve it with any of the tips provided (including downloading a generic 3rd party Mediatek driver). I've used this same adapter without this problem on my older Win7 machine. I thought maybe this adapter "went bad".

So I tried to replace this adapter with an older Wifi adapter made by Rosewill, using older Rosewill drivers. The same issue occurs. (Again, this Rosewill adapter worked perfectly in my Win7 system) So I have a hunch the problem is Windows 10 itself. Does it not place nicely with existing or older wifi adapters on the market? Would I need to buy a new adapter specifically certified for Windows 10?

Anyone have any insights on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

I have recently bought a new pci wifi lan card (Ralink rt61 turbo) and have plugged in and installed drivers. Initially the drivers the company I bought it from told me to install didn't work, but after some googling found the correct drivers and downloaded from Ralinks website. However these didn't work either.

When using the Ralink wireless utility it says that the card is disconnected, however in device manage it is both connect and the correct drivers installed and everything is perfectly fine.

I ignored the wireless utility and hoped that windows 7 would still be able to use the wireless card as past experiences have shown to be true. This case however I get nothing. Windows 7 says that the wireless card is experiencing problems, it doesn't show any of the routers that should be shown.

I have been looking around a lot and there have been several drivers that should have worked and they haven't.

I would have thought that the antenna is broken or the card doesn't work however when I use it with ubuntu instead of windows 7 it works perfectly fine without any hassle, so the card is definitely working.

Any advice that anyone can give on how to resolve this would be very welcome.

Thanks

Aieden

Hi, I have a XPS 13 9343 (i5/QHD) purchased refurbished from 3rd party, recently installed clean W10.
The Dell tool indicates to me that I should be installing:
9343_Network_Driver_WD22T_WN32_7.35.333.0_A03.EXE
Installing I get failure log at the bottom.
Via Device Manager as mentioned the WiFi adapter under Network is not there, scanning for hardware changes does not help.
I have tried manually installing inf files but I don't get any options under "Model" when I try to install it through legacy hardware.
I'm starting to think the Wifi/Bluetooth component is either faulty or entirely missing from the vendor (I have not opened it up and wouldn't know how to diagnose this myself).
I've attached a separate wifi dongle which works as does connecting to Ethernet via a USB adapter.
Any other ideas of what it could be? Thanks.

'Hello, this is my first post here, so I am sorry if anything is confusing.

The reason why I signed up in this forum is s I can seek help fron those that might know more about computer than me, in order to solve my problem

A few days ago, my laptop was working perfectly fine. But then, I turned my computer off, the next day, everything started up as normal, with Windows 7 Home Premium still in the backgrounds when I am logging in but then, the network connecter won't automatically start. So I was left without internet for a bit. Whats more, I noticed that the taskbar, which was always semi-transparent before, is now white. As well as all the title bars of the programs that I open, turned into blue!

Is computer has always ran Windows 7 as far as I am aware, but e way the taskbar, and the title bars, are behaving, reminds me of windows xp.

I first tried to look up how to solve my wifi problem. I manually opened the network connecter in the control panel, and tried to "Connect to a network". But it didn't detect any wifi servers! Which is odd since I had always used the one my family used, and I am using wifi on that server at this moment!

When I tried to use troubleshoot on my "internet connections", it first showed me that the issue was "The Diagnostic Policy Service is not running" but then every other time I tried to troubleshoot again, it doesn't show any problems detected

And with the problem of the taskbar, I tried to search solution... Read more

I am considering using a powerline system to give me additional wifi cover, but I am unclear how the available wifi connection is protected. They make a great deal of encrypting the traffic over the power circuit, but no mention is made of protecting the wifi connection. Surely, the risk with these is the same as with a wireless router?

I was at a home today and connected to their private home network on a Surface Pro 4. This showed their network as Connected. However, the internet kept going to a local open BT network instead! I couldn't select this open network anywhere to exclude it. Thinking about it now, I should have disabled/reenabled Wifi first, and then tried a reboot after that. But otherwise, is there any hidden setting to ignore certain networks?

A:Using 'open' access Wifi point instead of connected private wifi.

Hello and welcome to the TenForums

If the home where you were had a BT hub then it most probably was offering both an open connection also known as BT Wifi or BT Fon and also a secured wifi connection which would have an SSID number with a BThub name with some random numbers and letters. It is possible that you connected to the open one and were then automatically directed to a BT broadband page on the internet to pay for use of the BT hotspot service that they provide via customers routers. Is there a way to combine the internet that my cell phone receives and the wifi router I have at home to increase speed?

Just something I thought up in my head, and wanted to find out if it is possible. Thanks in advance.

Hi, My laptop has a very weak wifi detection. Only when the wifi signal is very strong can it detect the wifi. I tried contacting HP regarding the same. They said it could be a loose connection with the wifi antenna. I have been waiting for the custumer service in my area to contact me(like HP promised!!!) for quite a long time now . Now I am in urgent need to get this fixed. I was wondering if an external wifi adapter would solve this issue. Mine is a Windows 10 laptop. Model no: ab030tx (pavilion). If an external adapter works, what would you suggest? (I am confused as a lot of products available in market only convert the laptop to a hotspot)

Dear Customer, In case if your laptop is under warranty, You may call  HP and will replace the Wireless card.Contact HPhttp://support.hp.com/us-en/checkwarranty However you may still use the External WIFI USB Adapters, I would like to share a document which helps how to choose the required Adapters.http://www.howtogeek.com/243330/how-to-choose-a-usb-wi-fi-adapter-for-your-laptop/ After trying you may search the model of the adapter online with Amazon for price details. Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,GBL84I am not an HP Employee

I am looking to replace my tired Linksys WRT54G router that is about 10 years old. I love the router, and its even better with DD-WRT on it, but I'm starting to have troubles with the wifi dropping all the connects for a couple seconds when running all my wireless devices. I have 3 smart phones, 2 tablets, 1 Chromecast, a smart TV, and Roku + a laptop or 3 in my house right now, and it seems like its getting to be a bit much for it.
I have had to completely re-flash the firmware twice this year to get the wifi working again, so I'm thinking its time for replacement.
I have been thinking about just getting the new WRT54GL for $50, but I'm also thinking it might be a good idea to upgrade the wifi technology past wireless G .
I'm wondering if my Tablet (Nexu 9), and our smartphones (Razr HD Max) along with the Chromecast will take advantage of the new wireless standards and higher speeds or not? If they will can someone recomend a decent wireless router that takes DD-WRT nicely in the sub-$100 range? Thanks!

A:Looking for new Wifi Router - Will Tablet/Smartphone take advantage of new wifi Standards?

I been programming in Android/Linux since 2010 and there is code that supports VHT is Very High Throughput. Right now the standards are HT is High Throughput .

As for DD-WRT firmware is like your overclocking your router pushing it beyond the OEM limits. I use to use DD-WRT but had quit many years ago since the routers that used that firmware would fail too much.

So best to buy a better business type enterprise router wired then you can use WiFi router as AP or just get WiFi AP(access point). To me WiFi Router is also Wired Router, but to use just a wired router and use WiFi AP through a switch is better. If one or the other goes you can easy replace them. Where as if the WiFi Router fails you would need to replace it.

If you really want to use DD-WRT then Look at Buffalo WiFi Routers some come pre-installed with DD-WRT on them. Frankly you really don't need DD-WRT today because newer routers or WiFi routers are much better built and offer much more power NPU = network processor units and 128, 256, 512, 1GB of RAM some have Dual Cores.
