Upgrade HP Envy 17 k241no hard disk to Samsung 950 Pro

Q: Upgrade HP Envy 17 k241no hard disk to Samsung 950 Pro

Hello, I hope this question has not been answered, because I could not find a definitive answer on whether an upgrade from the normal SATA hard disk, on my HP Envy 17 k241no, to a PCIe hard disk, such as the Samsung 950 PRO Series PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD, would be possible? The main reason why I cannot figure this out is that I cannot find any details in the guides provided for this model, that states whether it has PCIe or not. I hope some of you can help me figure this out. Regards,Frederik

Hi,does any know if I can upgrade my 1TB Sata Hard Disk in my HP Envy dv7 to a 1TB Sata SSD Drive. In essense I want to mirror the contents of the original 1TB Hard Drive to a new 1TB SSD Drive then detach the original Hard Disk from the laptop and replace it with the new SSD drive that has the mirrored files. Thanks in anticipationLuka123

A:Can I Upgrade a Envy dv7 1 TB Hard Disk to a 1TB SSD Drive

Hello Luka123,  Welcome to the HP forums.  As far as I can tell you can upgrade your hdd to an ssd.  However, I recommend you to reinstall the operation system instead of copying it. This because you will lose perfomance when coping from an hdd to an ssd, It might even affect the lifetime of your ssd. You can download Windows 10 and activate it with your Windows 7 serial if you want to. Winos.

Yesterday while watching movie on my PC it appeared as black on the screen and stopped working. After restarting the PC it was not responding as the BIOS was unable to recognize the hard disk. It creates an unusual sound while BIOS searches drives.

1. I tried by bootting the PC using another hard disk but this HD does not appear in the windows.
2. I also tried to boot using Ubuntu live CD but failed to find my HD on it.

As it is not recognized by BIOS, I cann't use data recovery software to recover the data. I'm badly in need of all data in it.

Please someone help me in this regard to recover the data.

A:My Samsung Hard Disk is not being recognized by BIOS

Try the freezer trick. Place your hard drive in zip lock freezer bag to protect it from moisture and freeze it overnight (or a few hours at least). Quickly hook up the frozen hard drive and try to boot from it. If it works, be prepared to copy your important data as soon as possible before the hard drive warms up too much. This is not a permanent fix but it may work long enough to save your data.

While the light at the Power indicator of the Power button remain on, the light indicator of the hard disk(hard disk light) blink intermitently for sometime and finally goes off and the the system never come on. What shoudl I do? NB. Before this incident, the sytem was connected to the internet and a sudden power cut made the system goes off without proper shut down. On turning it on, What I got is the development above.

The Background :
I built my new P4(3GHz) System in Dec 04. I used the same old 80Gb HDD

I got KTs in Second Yr Engineering which resulted in, me facing my Dad's
real bad temper. The worst thing was that he spent all his anger on my
beautiful System.

Now all I'm left with is a broken cabinet, Cracked MB, non-working FX5700
Ultra, a P3(700mhz) system and a hurt soul.

The Problem :
Apparantly the HDD survived all that (although the plastic around the bus
attachment area was a little broken)

It was working fine. But now after taking a 4 weeks gap to cool things down
WinXp just showed the Partitions for about a Min and it showed no more.
The Bios & XP Device manager shows the HDD, U can feel it working, but it
doesn't display the Partitions.

Please anyone help me! All my VB, Java, C, Photoshop & Flash Projects are
still in it.

Thank You

The 32-gigabyte (GB) NAND flash-based solid state disk (SSD) can upload and download data quickly and quietly as it uses instantly-accessible static NAND flash memory instead of the rotating discs found in hard drives.

SSD weighs only half as much as a hard drive, reads data three times faster and writes data 1,5 times quicker, it said.

It consumes a mere five percent of the electricity needed to power a hard disk drive and operates silently as it requires no motor or any other noise-making parts.

A:Samsung develops drive to replace hard disk

Awesome. Solid-state memory needs to replace ferromagnetic plates of glass. Methinks this step in technology is long overdue.

Hello, I have issue my with current HDD, which is Samsung HD103SJ, where I keep getting a hard disk failure warning for every 20min or so.. and wonder if there any fix for it rather than buying a new one, if possible.

Thanks!!

A:Hard disk failure warning - Samsung HD103SJ

You can't fix a failing hard-drive, I would suggest backup all your important files and data, and then run some hard-drive diagnostics to assess the situation better:

Run some hard-drive diagnostics and follow these steps:Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure
Find your hard-drive manufacturer and run their tests.

Additional Tests:SeaTools for DOS | Seagate
CrystalDiskInfo - Software - Crystal Dew World

Now when I connect my hard disk it is not being detected though it shows up in the Disk Management menu. A:Samsung 650GB External Hard Disk Not Being Detected

If you feel confident enough, Open it up and remove the hard drive from inside the enclosure and fit it directly in to your pc.

This will help determine if the hard drive or enclosure is to blame.

I have a 1 year old HP Envy 23 Touch Screen Computer, yesterday the "Windows detected a hard disk problem" and SMART Hard Drive Disc Error messages appeared on the screen and won't go away. I cannot find how to contact HP directly as I go round the houses to find links, it's very confusing. All I want to know is can this problem be fixed, either via HP or someone else, and how best to go about it, I'm not particularly computer savvy so the easiest option is best for me and to know what to do with this computer now.  The failure ID has a code on from running the diagnostics check too and a product Id. So really it's knowing who to contact, where it can be fixed and how and if at all, and if it's cost effective. Thank you.

I purchased the HP Envy 34-a027c a few weeks back. The system came with a 128GB SSD + 2.0TB HDD. Unfortunately, I had grossly underestimated the amount of space that the software packages I needed to install would take up (specifically Visual Studio 2015) and now the SSD is running low on free space. My question is where can I find information on how to upgrade the SSD (and while I'm at it, the HDD). Is there a service manual available somewhere which I can download to see how to upgrade the SSD and HDD? What kind of replacement SSD and HDD would I need to purchase that would work with the HP Envy 34?

You can download from the following link for your machine:              http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-x360-Convertible-PC-series/10862127/model/11926717/manua... Page 28 shows you how. Problems on initializing Samsung 80GB with Samsung's Disk Manager: Ontrack(tm)

Hi!

There is some problem on my 80gb Samsung HD. The situation is this:

I have had an old computer which have an ancient motherboard.. because of the limitations of motherboard it was initializing Hd as 8gb.. I installed Samsung's Disk Manager program named Ontrack. It does something with the MBR to make the 8gb initialized HD as 80gb! When you're in bios setup, it says your samsung is 8gb but when you reset and wait for the system disk error message Ontrack activates and then your hd is 80 gb, you can install OS after that.

Here is the problem: I bought a new computer whose motherboard to initialize my 80GB hd as 80GB also, but things didn't happen like that. On bios setup it says my HD is 33gb.

I plugged the HD to my other computer and its partition magic 8 says "33gb BAD" also..

A modified MBR by a program (ontrack) can fool bios setup? if so, can i use XP CDs system recovery console with fixmbr command? ?f it is not how can i make my hd back to normal (not for old motherboards, initialized as 80GB)??

New motherboard is MSI RS482M2-IL and because of this problem I cannot enable S.M.A.R.T. feature. I need help and thanks from now on!

I have a Samsung s2 1tb external hard drive.

Today when I hooked it up to my laptop it would not load. It will shows local F drive when it usually will say samsung Drive.

A pop up box will then appear stating "you need to format drive"

I know if I reformat it I will lose all my data which I will not do.

When I look in device manager it states that the external hard drive is installed.

I attempted to go through start menu and type cmd then F: and it states "The volume does not recognize this system file. Please make sure all required system drivers are loaded and the volume is not corrupted."

PLEASE HELP I DONT WANT TO LOSE ALL MY FILES

A:Samsung s2 external hard drive not loading showing local disk F drive

With the external drive connected, Go to Disk Management (Start > type: "computer" > click on Computer Management > click on Disk Management)

Determine which disk is the external drive.
If the external drive shows here as a healthy volume, Right click on the large box to the right of the "Disk 1" / "Disk 2" lable and choose: Change Drive Letter and Path.

If there is nothing but a grey box or "Unallocated Space" next to the disk number then Right click on the disk number (the box) and choose: Change Drive Letter and Path.

Change the drive letter to anything else > OK.

If you can't do any of the above post back. If you can post a screen shot of the Disk Management window that can help.
Do not initialize the disk or format it or you will lose your data.

Alright, so I bought a new portable harddisk, the samsung 3 1tb. However for some reason my pc does detect it, but is not able to run it. it gives me the error that it is an unknown device.

However, i tried the Hdd on several other pcs, and it worked fine, leaving me the conclusion that my pc is at fault. After recommendations from a friend, i tried to find myself some updated drivers for my motherboard, specifically usb drivers. However, my driver CD, aswell as the Asus site did not support my operating system (Windows 7, 64 bit).

So here I am, still unable to resolve this, hoping that any of you might be able to help me out. If you need any additional information, ill provide it asap.

Yes you should be able to install a 320 or 500GB with no problem. I imagine a 750GB should also be fine, but I wouldn't try installing a 1TB just in case there is a Chipset/BIOS sector addressing limitation.

When changing from 32 bit to 64 you MUST do a clean install and therefor have to re-install the apps.

Upgrade disk? Not full redial, or OEM?

A:Keyboard upgrade and hard disk exchange for HP pavilion P001...

Here is the Service Manual: Manual None of the optional keyboards is backlit so there is no port on the motherboard for a backlight cable and no part to install.  Yes, the hard drive can be replaced with any 2.5 inch wide and 9.5 mm or 7 mm thick SSHD or full solid state drive. See p. 105 of the manual. It is a pretty involved thing to do but can be done. Post back if you need more help.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

My company's computer needs to be patitioned and reformat. The system is still working well. I mean, nothing wrong with anything (weird huh?). Ok the hard disk just need to be 'split'. I mean, make drive C & D on the hard disk. I know how to do that... easy... Then the HD need to be formatted & reinstall windows XP. Ok, easy too..

But the main problem occured before I do anything (partition & format). I have my own bootable CD that I usually use for partitioning & formatting.

Ok, i insert the CD & restart.
I went to BIOS & changed the boot order (1st boot: CD-ROM, 2nd: HDD-0 & 3rd: Floppy). Then restart again.
Ok the bootable CD is excellently loaded.
I typed fdisk, then came the first problem. it says something like 'no fixed disk'. I exit fdisk.
Then I typed format c:, 2nd problem occured. it says something like, 'invalid drive'.
I forgot the error message because the pc is in my office right now. I'm currently at home 'begging for help' So the error message is not accurate. sorry..

I think, if I run the CD, the hard disk will not be loaded (or should I say, hard disk failure). & If I take off the CD & restart again, change the BIOS (1st boot: HDD-0) then windows will load! Weird right?

I don't think my CD is 'corrupted' nor broken because I tried to run the CD from another PC. Yes, I can access the C drive from that PC.

Does anyone have any idea of the ... Read more

A:Can't format hard-disk nor do partition when using boot disk. Hard-disk failure

It sounds like it might be the bootable CD you've created is not picking up the HDD's/partitions.
To eliminate this as a posibility travel to bootdisk and grab the WinME bootdisk and boot from there. If it picks up the HDD you can FDISK and Format from there.
The other option is to boot using the XP CD and let it handle the formatting/partitioning duties...

Hi guys,

I will try to explain this as simple as i can.So let's start
I have laptop ASUS N75SF and it is a year old,so i have decided to format.I have two separate hard disks that are the same brand,SeaGate 9500423 AS, each 500 gb capacity. Before i decided to format , one of my hard disks(that is my partition D) started to make strange noises and it was not recognized, but i was using my laptop without problems because my windows was installed on my other hard disk (that is my partition C).So now my question is this :
After i formatted them both i have no clue which one is which ? they are like :
Disk 0 Partition 1 465 gb
Disk 1 Partition 2 465 gb
So how do i choose the one that is better and not having problems to pust my winodows on?
I know that i can buy new one and replace it with the one that is having problems, but right now i have no money to do that .I am student

Thanks in advance

A:Confused about installing Windows on my hard disk, hard disk problem

Windows XP sp2 wont boot from hard disk.

After much to do turns out my computer doesnt recognise the hard disk.

I have a seagate 500Gb SATA hard drive, its about a year old, the computer doesnt get hot in the slightest and it shouldnt be dead. I checked the wiring, as far as i can see, its all fine.

only conclusion i come to is that my hard disk is kaput which it shouldnt be. Can anyone give me any other possible solutions to try out before i cry and/or spend money on a new one? theres a lot of data on it i dont want to lose.

If not, ill plug it in to another computer to check, i havent done that yet because it will take me hours - i can only unscrew the hard drive from one side without rearranging the room.

ty!

A:Hard disk boot failure -> computer won't recognise hard disk

Is your Seagate the 7200.11 series?

We've been seeing a lot of harddrive issues layely that has nothing to do with the drive itself but bad SATA cables aas the cause. Do you have another one you can switch out?

When you say the computer doesn't recognize it we're talking the BIOS here, correct?

Another suggestion is what you have already suggested but I would "slave" it in antother system and see if you can access it that way.

Greetings,

I have an Asus laptop running windows 7 64 bit and this laptop came with 2 hard drives, each partitioned into two parts (C:\ & D:\ and E:\ & F:\).

I am transferring over 30GB of data from one drive (C:\) to the other (F:\)

Get this... the transfer rate is 1.2MB/s right now. Over 9 hours left to copy the 30GB. There are over 125,000 items but that still does not justify the 1.2MB/s

I am open to any suggestions but first, a few points.
Yes, I am sure they are two separate drives with those partitions.
Error checking showed zero errors on both drives.
This is the 3rd time I am trying a transfer.
Both drives are relatively empty (especially the F:\).
C:\ is my system disk.
The SMART data shows no read/write errors or overheating.
I have disabled the virus protection and all real-time scanning.

Again, I am very open to suggestions and checks. Feel free to post your idea!

Thanks in advance!

A:Laptop Hard Disk to Hard Disk transfer Extremely Slow

My experience with file transfers of the type you describe...is that the number of files doesn't matter...what matters is how large the files are.  Video files take much longer than text or document files.

Slow transfer rates between partitions/drives...can indicate a problem with either the partititon or the drive, IMO.

I am having this Hard Disk problem. My old Hard Disk (Samasung 500GB) (bought in 2010) started showing signs of corruption (like Windows doing chkdsk at every boot, and data getting lost). So I bought a NEW Hard Disk (Western Digital 1TB) last month (Sep 2016) to backup all the data from old one. I didn't have time to backup but wanted to use PC so I Clean Installed Windows 7 64bit on the New Western Digital 1TB and used it about a month without any problems.

A couple of days ago i decided to backup up the data. I reformatted the New Western Digital 1TB with Gparted and did a clean Windows 7 Install again. I connected the old Samsung 500GB to the motherboard and started copying the files to the new Western Digital 1TB.

Suddenly Windows showed me an error "Windows detected a hard disk problem" which makes sense because the Samsung 500GB is old and might be failing BUT the error is showing both of my Hard disk in the dialog box.

Is my new hard disk corrupt as well?
Why is Windows showing my new hard disk as failing?
Can Windows mistakenly show both hard disk in error?

Please help i am confused. sorry for a confusing question. i will answer anything required.

I have taken the screenshot of the error message, they are in attached files.
1)The 1st Screenshot shows both my Hard disk in the error box (OLD Samsung and NEW Western Digital WD)
2)The 2nd Screenshot shows only one of my Hard disk and its the new one (Western digital WD)

Zbook 17 G3 came with Samsung 951 NVME m.2 256 GB installed with Windows 10 64-bit OS.  Worked perfectly.  I installed new Samsung 950 Pro m.2 512 GB in 2nd SSD slot, but it is not displayed in windows explorer.  I see it in device manager, and there are now two nvme storage controllers.  Also, Samsung Magician software recognizes the device, but Windows does not show this new drive.  Do I need to install latest Samsung NVME driver v1.1?  If so, do I need to uninstall the ssd first?  I assumed auto-sense would automatically recognize and setup the new drive since the 951 was already there.

So, I've had this laptop, a Samsung RV515, for awhile now, and I felt it was time to upgrade it. I would just buy a better computer, but being only 14, I don't have to much money to spend. I was originally planning to upgrade my RAM from 4GB to 8GB, but I'm not sure that is the best route to go. the kind of things I want to know is if I can or can't upgrade or replace my processor, graphics card, etc. I don't know a whole lot about computers, so any input would be great. Also, it may be helpful to note that I haven't done anything to tweak and/or upgrade the laptop yet. Thanks to anyone who can help!

A:What can I upgrade on a Samsung RV515?

laptops are restricted to 3 main upgrades:

RAM (the Crucial.com website seems to indicate that your laptop can accept an additional 4GB RAM bank (DDR3 SODIMM, 1066MHz of speed). This is useful if you have tons of windows and programs open, but with that processor I don't know if it's going to be so noticeably better.

Memory Storage devices (HDDs, SSDs, DVD drives can be removed and replaced with additional HDD/SSDs) These in general improve storage space (HDDs) or system responsiveness and load times (SSDs a lot, high end HDDs quite a bit but not anywhere near SSDs)

Battery (better endurance)

(theoretically you could upgrade processors as well, but it's extremely complex because they weren't designed to allow it to be done and anyway it's very very rarely worth it, given your lack of experience I'd discourage that course of action)

This is the price for having something portable. If you don't need something portable, investing in a good desktop computer would give tons of bang for your buck.

I'd personally save the cash for a new one, either laptop or desktop, if you really want to see improvements.
Say what you'd like to do with it and someone will point you in the right direction.

Hello! I have just received my HP Envy 13-d001no. As I expected I'm really enjoying it so far, but I am interested in upgrading to an even faster SSD with more storage on it. I'm looking at two different drives, namely the Samsung 850 EVO M.2 and the Samsung PRO 950 M.2. Both drives are M.2 (2280) form factor, but they differ in that the 850 EVO uses a SATA 6,0 Gbit/s-interface while the PRO 950 has a PCIe-interface. I am not fully aware of the differences between these interfaces. I know PCIe allows for faster speeds, but are they both compatible with the new HP Envy 13? I can't find anywhere what interface and exact form factor of the currently installed SSD is, and I don't want to risk buying a new drive only for it not to fit or not to work on the laptop.

Hey folks. I've got a Latitude E5270 and love it, but the 128GB M.2 SSD is too small. I would like to upgrade to a new Samsung EVO 950 SSD, but someone told me the BIOS won't even see it. Other said it may not be compatible without some special adapter.
From what I can see after inspecting the current SSD and the way it's installed, the Samsung SSD would fit, but I'm dead in the water if the BIOS won't see it in order to install Windows 7 Pro. I'm also being led to believe by Microsoft that this system cannot upgrade to Windows 10 for some reason, but that's another discussion.

Any thoughts on the SSD situation by someone who's tried this upgrade?

Hi everyone, I've had my HP Envy 17-j150ca for nearly two years not and as much as it has its issues, I love this laptop. Recently, it has been working much slower and has become a bit too outdated to run newer programs. I suspect it is an issue with the hard drive and am therefor looking at replacing it with a new SSD in an attempt to extend the lifespan of my laptop. I am, however, also curious about upgrading some of the other hardware. I've seen on the forum that many users have gotten mixed responses on the subject of replacing their motherboards with a new one. My warranty has been void for almost a year even after HP fixed the fatal design flaw of this laptop (unhinging at the base from opening and closing) so I'm not at all concerned about voiding the warranty on my machine. I have a tech grant with which I can replace components but if all else fails I will just use it to replace the whole machine, so the loss of my laptop is not an issue. I have backups and installation CDs for my OS as well so this is no issue.   I understand that I may, very well, not get the answer I would like to hear about this but if anyone has any information on how I could keep my laptop up to date it would be incredibly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any answers you may have for me. Cheers.

A:HP ENVY 15T-K100 SSD Upgrade

Here is the Service Manual: Manual I am sorry to say this thing is clear as mud. Your model shares its Manual with the 17 inch Envy and if you look at hard drive options it says only the 17 inch can be configured with both a regular hard drive and a M.2 drive. However, if you get into the actual instructions it makes no distinction other than saying the M.2 is on select models. I am sure we have had owners of the 15 inch model post here and even attach pictures and although the instructions say you have to flip the system board over to access the M.2 slot it is actually right above the hard drive bay. What is clear is that trying to add an M.2 drive is not end-user authorized and is a bit of a technical challenge. So I am afraid all I can say based on the Manual is that there is probably an M.2 slot in there but it is going to mean nearly complete disassembly to figure out for sure. Sorry.

Just received the 343-A150 and am overall very pleased, though the "B&O" sound is kinda sucky. Machine comes equipped with 12Gb DDR4 RAM, an 8Gb and 4Gb stick. Documentation says it will take 16Gb. Does anyone have instructions for doing this upgrade? I don't see any access to RAM, a la a notebook. Don't need it yet, but I know I will want to do it soon. Thanks,Mike

Hi, I just bought my HP Envy 15t-ae116tx last month and so far, I've only managed to upgrade my ram from 8GB to 16GB. I'm wondering if it is possible to add an SSD M.2 on my device. I tried checking the online manual for my device, but the only version I see is that of the 2015 model. If it is not possible to have an HDD-SDD M.2 setup, I might opt an SSD SATA upgrade instead. If ever, what are the pros and cons to having this kind of storage setup? Moreover, tips and comments on an SSD M.2 setup are also welcome. This will be the first time that I would use an SSD storage.

A:SSD M.2 Upgrade for HP Envy 15t-ae116tx

Hi, Your machine is still old using today standard. Did you know upgrade RAM yourself would void warranty given your machine is only 1 month old ? Anyway, your machine meets the following requirements:   Dual Storage Configurations (models with i7 processors and 4 GB discrete graphics memory only)1TB (5400) 9.5mm + 256GB M.2 SATA SSD (TLC) Its specs:      http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-15-Notebook-PC-series/8502643/model/8960751/document/c04... which has   (a) IntelŽ Core? i7-6500U with IntelŽ HD Graphics 520 (2.5 GHz, up to 3.1 GHz, 4 MB cache, 2 cores  (b) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M (4 GB DDR3L dedicated) Therefore you can simply add?256 GB solid-state drive, M.2, TLC812708-001 to your machine. Regards.

Hello. I am going to install a ssd in my laptop - Envy 15-as003ur. By default this version contains only HDD drive.1) Is there m.2 slot for ssd disk?2) What format - SATA 3 or PCIe?(I am looking at Samsung m.2 EVO 850 if sata 3 is supported - https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-850-EVO-Internal-MZ-N5E250BW/dp/B00TGIVZTW/) Thanks in advance!

A:HP ENVY 15-as003ur ssd upgrade

Here is the Service Manual: Manual There is an M.2 slot and it supports either NVME/PCIe mSSD drives or SATA-III M.2 drives.  See p. 33 for details. Of the HP laptops that have PCIe M.2 disk I know the official HP part is a Samsung SM951: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-MZVPV256HDGL-00000-SM951-256GB-Express/dp/B015CWQY4Q/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UT... I also know a PM951 will work: http://www.ebay.com/itm/201714651440?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 The Samsung 850 Evo SATA-III 2.5 inch disk will work in place of the hard drive, of course. Installing the M.2 will let you keep the hard drive for storage and the PCIe disk is multiple times faster for the OS disk. A SATA-III M.2 provides no real performance advantage over a SATA-III 2.5 inch SSD.   Post back with any more questions.

I have an HP Envy 750-116 Desktop and need to replace the 300W PSU with an upgrade to a more powerful one. I've been looking at either the CORSAIR CXM series CX550M 550W 80 PLUS BRONZE or the EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G2 80 Plus. I kniow that they're both excellent PSU's. My concern is with the connector the 750-116 uses to the optical drive. It looks like the kind of connector one sees going to a laptop DVD drive. (It's really small and is marked P5)  I have a spare HP 460W PSU that I could use but it doesn't have a connector that would work. So I'm hesitant to buy either the Corsair or the EVGA without knowing if I will be able to plug them in to this weird DVD connector in the HP Envy.  Has anyone out there run into this and come up with an answer? Bill

A:Can anyone recommend a PSU upgrade for HP Envy 750-116?

Optical drives are still a thing? Wow! Any ways OP. On these newer machines. HP is using a slim drive with a proprietaryconnector for it. You wont find it on other psu's. You will have to give up the drive if you replace the stock psu.

Can you get a HP Upgrade Bay for an Envy 15 Laptop model 15-ae054na? This would replace the optical drive with a second hard drive.

A:Upgrade Bay for Envy 15 (15-ae054na)

No. The Upgrade Bay is specifically for HP Business models. However, there are aftermarket DVD drive adapters you can use to add a hard drive in the optical bay, which will work fine. Something like this:  http://www.amazon.com/Masione-Universal-Enclosure-DVD-ROM-Optical/dp/B0152IXV00/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&q... Just manage your expectations on what this can do. 1. It will not be bootable 2. It will run a little slower than a regular hard drive because the optical port uses a slower version of SATA. However, it is viable to just add mass storage to the laptop. Installation is reasonably easy.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Can I switch HDD to 2.5 SSD? Is there maximum supported size of SSD? Will upgrade void the warranty?

A:HP ENVY 15-aq004 upgrade

Hi, My suggestion: buy the top available specs for the series now because future upgrades would be very hard (a) You can't upgrade yourself, those works are for HP authorized service provider parts. This implies void warranty,(b) More expensive to pay for upgrades even you don't care about warranty. Regards.

I have an HP Envy DV7 7255 DX, and I'm looking to updrade the amount of RAM substantially. I'm not sure if I can even upgrade it, and if I can upgrade, how much more I can put in. Here are the curent specs:Notebook Product #: C6N73UA#ABA Curent RAM: 6gb DDR3 SDRAM (2 DIMM)Slot 1: 2GB  Samsung 1600MHzSlot 2: 4GB  Samsung 1600MHz I would like to, at the very minimum, replace the current 2 gb stick with a 4gb (the same as the current 4gb in there), to have a total of 8gb. I would also consider though, replacing both slots with 8gb sticks for a total of 16gb. It looks like my operating system is fine with that, just not sure if the mother board would be able to use it. (IE: I dont want to put in more than can be used, and just waste the money on it, if 8gb is the max). I recently installed Avid editing software and it says I need a minimum of 8gb to make it run effeciently. I also have Virtual PC installed to run a shadow XP drive for old software I still use, and I've noticed a significant lag in everything done in windows 8.1 while Virtual drive is concurrently running. I suspect it might be also related to not enough RAM. Bottom line: Is it possible to upgrage the amount of RAM, and if so, how much can I upgrade it? Thanks in advance for your help.

Good people of HP support forum, I have a Envy notebook which came with 1TB HDD and that is now a bit slow for me. I'm looking into "regular" SSD upgrade options for around $150, but that forces me to make a compromise on storage capacity. Than I thought about adding a M.2 SSD and keep my factory installed HDD but I'm not sure if there is slot for M.2. Can anyone help me?Support page for my notebook lists "generic" service manual for Envy 17 and Envy 15, and while it adheres to most things about my model, "M.2 support is optional". Speccy lists available PCI slot but I'm not sure if that is it.Or do I need to disassemble the board to be sure? (not an easy task if you ask me and I already changed the WiFi module myself). Thanks guys

I have disassembled the laptop completely to add more RAM to it and have verified that it has NO M.2 slot. There is space for it next to RAM slots, there is printing on the board, but no connector is soldered.  I'll just have to be happy with one disk drive.

I just purchased a HP Envy 750-124 computer, and needed to upgrade the power supply unit so that I can use my GeForce GTX 760 video card in it. The card requires a 400w power supply, but the computer only has a 300w power supply and no extra cable to actually plug into a video card. Searching around, I see that it is a uATX, but I can't seem to locate any power supply units that have a 4 pin (square) plug for the motherboard, 24 Pin (rectangle) plug for the motherboard, SATA plug for the HD, small plug for the Ultra Slim Tray SuperMulti DVD Burner (has the same 'L' shape as the SATA connectors, only very small, labelled 'P5' on the connector), as well as the x6x2 connectors for video card. Can I get a better power supply unit directly from HP (anywhere from 400-600w)? If so, where can I find them on the website? My searches have turned up very little so far. If HP doesn't seel these, is there somewhere I can find a compatible power supply, or have I just wasted $811.00 on something I can't upgrade?

A:Need Help Finding PSU Upgrade for HP Envy 750-124

The P5 connector is the molex 4 pin standard used for older model hard drives. PATA hard drives and most other IDE devices use a standardized, 4-conductor power connector like the one shown at the right, which is called a Molex or P5 connector. This connector is becoming a lot less common as SATA displaces PATA as the drive interface standard for desktop computers.  If this agrees with what you need then here's a nice Corsair CX500 for you. 1 x 24-Pin main connector1 x 8-Pin EPS12V CPU2 x PCI-E5 x SATA4 x Peripheral---------------------------this is the old style 4 pin Molex.1 x Floppy

Hi, Yes, you can replac existing HDD with SSD. I would recommend Samsung Evo 859 or Crucial MX300. I bough 1 Crucial SSD and 3 SanDisk Ultra II around same time few years back. 6 or 7 weeks ago, 1 SanDisk SSD failed, I used some tools bring it back but it failed again the following week. This morning, another SanDisk SSD failed, I don't bother to fix it. Regards.

I will try to keep this as brief as possible and yet give you wise and wonderful tech persons all the information you need to help me out. I am intelligent, but NOT a super-user.

I have an e-machines desktop computer. It is old. A Cyrix MII 266 processor with upgraded memory. I have a 10gb Maxtor hard drive which is the issue at hand. I am running Win2000. My home computer (the e-machine desktop) is networked through a router with my printer and my business laptop.

The problem: Win2000 loads and boots. It LOOKS like it's functioning properly. However, it cannot read any of the files on the disk. When I try, it tells me C: is inaccessible. I can't search, explore, etc. The files are "non-existent."

I managed to get Windows to create a backup of it and saved that file to my Laptop. I can only "assume" that it actually backed up ALL the files on the drive so they are safe.

One really ODD thing you should know is that I cannot get into the BIOS. When it boots and usually gives you that second or two to hit [F2] and enter setup ... doesn't do that any more. I sit and hold the F2 key. Nope. I've second-guessed myself and tried the ESC key and the F1 key. I've tried it with and without the CTRL key. Nothing. So I can't even tell the silly thing to boot from the CD instead, load onto my D: backup drive and then kill the C: drive. It's like it's possessed.
