Q: HP dv7 laptop wireless-N 1030 no longer working after Window...

Hello, Wireless functionality was lost on my HP Pavillion dv7t-6c00 laptop when I upgraded to Windows 10. Here's what I have in my laptop now: Manufacturer: Intel CorporationDescription: Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 1030Driver version: 15.11.0.8 I've read some support threads on this topic and it seems that this wireless card is not supported by Intel in Windows 10. I've also read that one suggestion is to replace the wireless card with an Intel Advanced-N 6230 wireless card. I tried to replace the wireless card prior to upgrading to Windows 10 with an Intel Advanced-N 6230 wireless card but the wireless card I purchased seemed incompatible with the laptop, as it gave me a Halted screen when I started up the laptop. So my frustration is I would gladly and easily replace the wireless card but I can't keep purchasing cards that are incompatible with the laptop. What are my options? Is there a specific/guarenteed HP Laptop compatible part number that I can purchase? Even better, is there a link to where I can purchase a card that will definitely work? Thank you ver much,Chris

I saw some people having trouble with extremely slow wireless connections using an Intel Centrino Wireless n-1030 card. The original thread is closed, so the problem may already be solved, but if anyone is still experiencing this problem, here is what worked for me:

This NIC is a dual band card (802.11 + bluetooth), and with some routers having the bluetooth enabled really slowed down the 802.11n connection (it didn't seem to happen with my netgear router, but when I switched to linksys, WHAMMO!).

Anyway, when I disabled the Bluetooth adapter in Device Manager the problem was completely solved (uhhhh except I need to use a dongle to make my bluetooth mouse work now... small price to pay IMO)

Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience. Hope it can help someone.

Hello, I have an HP Pavilion 15 K2Z52AV Notebook with Beats audio. I upgraded it to Windows 10 from 8.1. In WIndows 8.1, plugging in an external audio source into the front mic-in (black) jack worked fine. After upgrading, Beats Audio detects a device was plugged into the black front jack, however, when I open the Windows Sound settings, Mic In at Front Panel (Black) still shows that nothing is plugged in. I have updated the drivers both using the HP Support Assistant, and also manually downloading the driver from the HP support website, uninstalling it, and then reinstalling it. But it still will not work. It does not matter what is connected to the jack.Everything else works fine, however.  I have attached a picture of the Sound settings menu while the front jack is connected.  What am I missing?

Hi. New to list and DSL. I connected my Sony Vaio, Windows XP, to DSL following Verizon directions. Worked well with ethernet connection. Went to wireless, worked well. Moved it to another floor. Everything still ok. Then suddenly neither wireless nor ethernet would work, dial-up still ok. Called Verizon tech support. After a very frustrating 2 hours got the ethernet to work--just re-connected everything. His answer was that I needed a new operating system! Ethernet works fine on either floor. Wireless still will not.

The Wireless Network Connection box at the top says NOT CONNECTED. The info below but still in that box says:
Security-enabled wireless network.
This network requires a network key. You are currently connected to this network. To disconnect from this network, click Disconnect below.

If I open either Netscape (preferred) or IE (tech said I had to use???) then I receive the message:

I read some of the other threads and trying the wireless then doing the CMD I get:

Hi to all,
this is my first time to the forum and let me just start by saying- "way too much information"!!! My goodness, I have spent the last 3 hours here just reading. Boy, I almost forgot what my trouble was.
Anyhoo, here goes- My problem is with my sony vaio laptop, running Vista. It has built in wireless or it did. Somehow, the NIC card is not operating. I connect through a linksys VOIP router that is connected to my desktop. I went through the drill of resetting my router back to factory settings; got my phone back up and running and have been trying to connect wireless with my laptop.
These connections have worked for the past 3 months. Here is what is strange for me- my laptop is not even picking up any other networks in the area, which it usually does. I live in a condo complex and there are as many as 5 networks that normally show up.

I just so happen to have a linksys usb compact adapter for wireless connection and that is the only way I can connect.

Any help here I would appreciate. What am I doig wrong? or has anybody had this happen before?

Thanks so much!

The wireless connection to my laptop is no longer working. I went to "network settings" followed by "wireless network connection" and the switch is turned to "off" and cannot be changed to "on". I went to "manage wifi and everything is turned on or checked. Under "known networks" mine is not listed. I rebooted the router, the wifi and the computer but nothing changed. Wireless is running normally to the rest of my computers.

I've searched through the forums but nothing seems to be quite the same as my problem. I've been using mostly a dial up connection (because I live in the sticks). But I occassionally bring my laptop to work to pilfer their high speed wireless connection if I have some particularly large files that I need to download. I've had no problems in doing so until today. Now my laptop cannot find the network and says that "This computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured." When I go to the device manager, I have two 6TO4 Adapters that are not working properly. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and still nothing. Please help!!!

I noticed my wireless 1030 is acting strange after getting BSOD(not the cause of Wireless but it was solved)and now I'm experiencing some problems, here are the issue. I'm worried if it is the NIC card

1.like it takes a while to connect to a certain webpage then whenI looked up on Event viewer it stated in the lines of Google too long to respond DNS

2. sometimes the wireless would switch off by itself and when I try to reconnect to my home router it says "Cannot find my router* yet I can see it shows my wireless router is available then when I look up event viewer it states " NETBIOS over TCPIP has entered Stop state".

I would have to click on

*Troubleshoot Problems which then would let me reconnect back in the router*

3. I have been getting this new event viewer error 5060:
The description for Event ID 5060 from source NETwNs64 cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

A:I'm having wireless Issues with the Intel 1030,Turning off by itself

It almost sounds like a nic driver issue. Have you updated it recently? Try to update, or roll-back if update did not work.
Replacing your nic should not be to hard depending on your device. Usually the nic is the easiest of the add-on boards to get to. But, I really don't think it's the nic. Were you changing, installing, updating anything with your hardware, operating system when this happened? If driver update/rollback doesn't work, try a system restore if feasible.

I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 that, until 2 days ago, was transmitting wirelessly. The router is hard wired to a Dell PC running Windows XP, and I was accessing the router wirelessly with a Macbook Pro and a Dell laptop with a Linksys wireless PC card. Neither the Macbook nor the Dell laptop can can recognize the router by the SSID, but both recognize other networks in the neighborhood. I have reloaded the firmware a couple times, used the reset button and turned off the power; nothing seems to work. Is it possible the Linksys can no longer transmit? Could my ISP (AT&T) disable my wireless capability?

Get a wired connection (router --- any.system)
and see what the TCP settings look like
pc: Run->cmd /k ipconfig /all
mac: click HD->Applications->Utilities-->Network Utility
select the Ethernet Interface (EN0)

If you have an IP address, then access the router config page with the browser

This card supports 802.11n. Obviously... it's right in the name, plus device manager>network adapters>Intel Centrino>Advanced tab clearly shows n enabled.

But can anyone take a second to tell me, if you know, why when I run the command netsh wlan show drivers, "radio types supported" shows only b and g, and NOT 802.11n ??? Confusing to me.

Hello,

I sent my computer in for repairs a while back and now the wireless card won't work. It can't find any signals unless I plug in the one from my desktop. I went to computer/properties/device manager and saw that the wireless card (Intel (R) Centrino (R) Wireless-N 1030) has a yellow "!" next to it. The properties tab says, "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)".

I have tried searching for new drivers automatically but it says they are up to date. I downloaded the latest drivers directly from Intel and tried to manually update them but it said that the drivers are up to date again. This problem occurs whenever I update my computer. I did a system restore and it worked fine for about a month, but once it updated it did the same thing again. There is no restore point to go to this time, so I'm stuck.

Anyone know what I should do?

Thanks

Hi, Your machine was built before second half of 2014 therefore the chance to upgrade wireless card is very slim to none. There is a list on pp 6 and 7 of the following manual:           http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03099448.pdf You can use USB wireless adapter, this will cost you one USB port       http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/c/technology/networking/wireless-usb-adapters     (Note: much cheaper from other countries). Regards.

Hello,

I'm having a strange problem. Intel released new drivers to update from version 15.11 to 16.11. I downloaded them from Intel website, ran install, success. When I go into Device Manager to check on the driver version, I see it is still 15.11. I have tried a number of things, including deleting the drivers from the Device Manager and running the install again. However, in this case Windows 8 automatically installs even older drivers, version 14, dated 2011. I'd like to try the new drivers because it takes very long for the net to comeback after I wake up my laptop. Version 15.11 was installed by Windows Update, those drivers are dated January 2014.

I have a relatively new (few months) laptop of my own running Win7 x64 with an "Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030" wireless network adapter. For some reason, I have serious problems connecting to most wireless networks. On my home network there are rarely problems, but when I attempt to any other network (college, or public hotspot, or neighbor's open wireless) there are often issues.

By "issues" I mean: when I first attempt to connect to the network in question, I'm usually able to connect to the first few sites I try to access, but usually after a second or a minute or a few minutes of normal connectivity, I'm suddenly unable to access anything. The browser's response is that DNS lookup has failed; when I record an IP address (via ping-command prompt) and type it in manually after this point, the browser's response is that "##.##..." is taking too long to respond, etc..." No other program is able to connect either. I have tried setting different DNS servers but it has had no visible effect. At this point, the only thing I can do to reconnect is to either wait a long time for the connection to reestablish itself (which can take an hour or more and isn't guaranteed) or to go to Device Manager and disable and reenable the wireless adapter, which then *sometimes* allows me to reconnect for a few seconds or a minute or an hour before connectivity breaks again. When the connection fails, Windows displays the computer ... Read more

I had the same issue too. My GF's laptop has a 1030 wireless NIC and it had all sorts of issues connecting to the APs in my house. It would work fine with her Linksys wireless router and my Sprint MiFi. But had connectivity/performance problems when connecting to either of my Netgear APs (WG102 and WNDAP350) along with my PC W 620 wireless controller with AP 105 and AP 125 access points. Updating the drivers helped the problem somewhat, but we were still experiencing dropped packets or extremely high latency when connected. Upon a suggestion from one of my coworkers, I tried adjusting the performance/power settings in Windows and that seemed to have fixed the problem. The laptop has been running fine ever since.

Evening all. Been looking through this forum a bit over the last few hours as there seem to be rather knowledgeable folk around here.

I'm running 2 Laptops, a Notebook running Vista Home Premium (\\moonjuice, the host, with USB Modem for Internet connectivity), and a Netbook (\\epic, super-mini-laptop) running Win XP Professional. The Notebook is on 24/7 connected to the net, and for the last 3 or so months I've been using ICS through wireless ad hoc so the Netbook could also use the net while I roamed around the house.

Last week I had a bit of an issue with my Notebook (involved nuking TrustedInstaller during the attempted installation of Critical Windows Updates) which ended up with me using System Restore to rollback the Notebook to the previous Monday before the Windows Updates were performed (August 16th). I haven't touched any of the network settings since I got them working a couple of months ago, but the Netbook just doesn't want to use ICS anymore.

I'll try to fill in as much information here so we can sort this problem out ASAP:
Internet is provided by a USB Modem connected to the Notebook (Vista). It's set to Private Network, and has ICS enabled. The LAN adapter is disabled so it should automatically use WAN for ICS. The Wireless ad hoc network is also set to Private Network.
Both the Notebook and Netbook are using manual settings for IP. (see attached images ipv4_vista.png and ipv4_winxp.png). I tried using auto for the Netbook b... Read more

I learned the hard way to never ever buy Microsoft mice, looks like your about to too.

The mouse i have (wireless mobile mouse 6000) is terrible, the wireless lags A LOT, significant dropouts in connectivity, and i had to buy two because the usb connector for the first one literally burnt out after one day of use (2 hours actual, about 6 plugged in but turned off)

Always go Logitech IMO

I know this doesn't help fix your problem but its a warning for everyone else.

Judging my the fact that its a Microsoft mouse, I would say there is no known fix for you problem. Microsoft doesnt care, as long aas they get the money, they are happy.

Hello, this is my first post as I am in somewhat desperate need of help here. As of this morning, I have been having a lot of problems trying to get my home network online. It has been opperating just fine for a very long time until today.

I have 4 different computers running at home, 2 of them running Windows XP home, 1 running Windows Vista Ultimate, and a Macbook pro running both Windows Vista Ult. and OS 10.4. Only one of these computers is able to connect to the internet which is the macbook (it connects in both Vista and OS X) and only connects through a wired connection directly into the modem. Both of the desktop's cannot connect, through either the router or directly into the modem. I am ignoring the laptop with windows altogether because it seems unecessary to have a 4th computer to test in this case.

The only way that I can get any internet access is by plugging my macbook directly into my modem. No other computer will work this way nor will the router.

I have tried many different things over the past few hours trying to get things back online with no success. Here is what I have done.

Unplugged the router and modem for set amounts of time to reboot both. I have also disabled and re-enabled my network cards on both PC's that are not getting internet.
Tested all of my ethernet cables and confirmed that they all work.

A:Solved: Wireless & wired connections no longer working

Did you power cycle the modem whenever you changed the attached device? If not, that's the first thing to try. Next, try the following procedure.

Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
Turn off everything, the modem, router, computer.
Connect the modem to the router's WAN/Internet port.
Connect a computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.
Connect a second computer to another of the router's LAN/Network ports.
Turn on the modem, wait for a steady connect light.
Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
Boot the computer.
Boot the second computer.

When the computers are completely booted, let's see this for each one.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

nbtstat -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hi, everyone, I just joined and would like some help, please. I didn't find a thread specific to my case (maybe there's one and I didn't see, though). I have a 6 year old Compaq Presario F730US running Vista Home Premium and it has been working fine all these years; yesterday, while online the blue light indicating wireless ON became amber suddenly and I can no longer connect except wired. The wireless adapter is not showing on Device Manager or anywhere else and HP Wireless Assistant won't open. Things I've already tried:
-Update/uninstall/reinstall driver
-Remove/reinstall hardware
-System Restore to at least a week prior
And some other tips from some tech sites around. Of course, nothing worked.
Thanks for any help.

Hi,

I've trying to troubleshoot this issue. I've been connecting Lenovo G550 laptop to TV, but it has suddenly stopped working.
Laptop Specs:
To my knowledge, I have intel 4 graphics chipset. I'm writing from different laptop, but I'll edit this once I'm sure about graphic card model.

Laptop identifies TV, but it says "no signal." I'm using VGA to VGA connection to connect.
I've connected other laptop using same vga cable and it works as usual. I reckon something's up with the hardware or software.
I have attempted to connect to TV using latest ubuntu. I have also re-installed drivers from support site, but it is still not working.

Thanks for any help..

Hi.

I have a DSL wireless router, and have been using it successfully for about 6 months.

Last week, my laptop started having occasional problems with the wireless signal. The icon would show that there was signal, but I couldn't connect to the internet. At the time I thought perhaps that there was a problem connecting while my desktop was online.

Yesterday, I used the wireless connection with no problem, then later in the day I tried again and got no signal. The wireless connections window told me that there were no networks in range. The Device Status tells me the adapter is working properly. (I know it is not a router problem, because the device used to identify several other networks in my neighborhood too).

Is there any chance this is an easy fix (like a driver problem), or do I need a new wireless card?

Thanks
J

Hi guys, got a bit of a problem with a Toshiba laptop. All of a sudden it can no longer detect any Wireless networks in range. I know my router is working, as I have a second laptop that is not having issues, and all my wired PCs are fine.

I've tried repairing the connection, and everything appears to be working correctly in Device Manager, but I just can't detect a single wireless network, when I should be able to see 5+ in my house.

Any advice you guys have would be great.

Are you SURE the wireless is enabled? My Toshiba laptop has a small switch on the side that will disable/enable the wireless. Some may have a function key sequence that does the same thing.

Hi all,

I have wireless internet at home through a Belkin router.

It used to work fine but one computer wouldnt connect. Stupidly, I tried checking the security password on my laptop and ever since it won't connect. (However, now the other computer does!)

It picks up the signal from the router but just won't connect. When I run ipconfig I get a message saying Media Disconnected. I've searched forums and can't find an answer to this.

The laptop still connects to the wireless internet in my office so the wireless capability obviously still works. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks so much!

Miles

Disable encryption on the router and try to connect. Assuming success you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect.

My Laptop was wirelessly connected to a 2-PC network and has been working fine for a while now. I have been using internet connection sharing, file and print sharing: the works. Then suddenly it suddenly was "Unable to Connect to Wireless Network". It's fustrating because it happened overnight quite literally - something must have gone wrong somewhere. . .

The piece of kit I'm using it is a BT Voyager 2091 Wireless ADSL Router whcih acts as the Modem and the wireless router. The wireless network adapter the laptop is using is internal: Internal PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection. AS I said: everything has been working fine but suddenly it's simply not finding it, let alone connecting.

Hi,

I have a dual boot of Fedora and Windows, and when I boot into Fedora, my headphones work fine. When I boot into Windows 7 64bit, my headphones don't work. My laptop speakers work fine however, and I tried re-installing drivers. I made sure that my headphones are the default playback device, and I only have one headphone jack.

Other people who had this issue solved it by replacing their audio jack, but for me that is not a problem because the audio jack works fine when I boot into Fedora.

Please help!

Janac

A:Laptop speakers working, but headphone jack not working only on Window

Normally, the "Speakers" (PC sound) is set as the Default Playback device and not Headphones. In fact, newer RealTek sound systems do not even show the Headphones when plugged in.

Are you using the correct sound drivers? Not the generic Windows installed High Definition Audio Codec.

What all is listed in the Device Manager, Sound section?

I use Windows Explorer numerous times every day. I like to navigate to folders using the folders pane and click on items in main view. I sometimes drill down to folders in the main view to finish my navigation until I'm at the folder I wish to see.

All of the sudden I'm finding that when I click on a folder in the main view, a new Explorer window pops up. I did not change any of my preferences in this regard. I went into the Tools-->Folder Options and saw that "Open each folder in the same window" was still selected, as I'd left it long ago (a couple of years now). So, I switched the radio button to the "Open new folder" option, then switched it back to opening the folders in the same view. I clicked "Apply" and closed Explorer (I did this as a kind of "forced" reset). Then I opened Explorer again, and it's still not obeying this setting.

What's going on? Is this influenced by some other settings location I haven't looked at yet?
AFAIK, this started not long after I had uninstalled IE9 and IE8, rolling back to IE7, then installed IE9 again. I did this to resolve a peculiar issue with certain files marked as corrupt in SFC scannow (turns out it's a defect when going to IE9 from IE8). I do realize that Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer share a lot of the same files. But this is functionality exclusive to Windows Explorer. Really strange...

Hello Gary,

You might see if downloading and merging the .reg for the listed Folder and Directory options in the tutorial below may be able to help. It will restore the default associations and registry entries for folders and drives, and hopefully fix this for you.

Hi all,

I'd call myself a decently tech-savvy person, but this one has me stumped. Any help would be appreciated!

Laptop: Dell Latitude D630 running Windows 7 Professional, SP1.

Problem: Despite the presence of available WiFi connections, the system states "There are no connections available." WiFi works when booting in Safe Mode with Networking. The laptop also connects fine when hard-wired.
Troubleshooting so far:

Verified Wi-Fi was turned on via switch on the side of the laptop.
Verified connection was enabled.
Updated drivers via Dell's website.
Ran Malware Bytes and cleaned off any malware.
Disabled all firewalls (only one - Windows Firewall).
Could not identify any concerns in services.msc or msconfig
What would be the next thing to check?

Thank you in advance,

Joe

http://forums.techguy.org/networking/1011869-wireless-suddenly-stopped-working-my.html
My old thread, I decided to just re-post as the old one was cluttered.

Wireless suddenly stopped working on my laptop.
I have a Compaq 6715B, and yesterday while I was browsing the web, my wireless stopped working, it gave me a notification in the "Safely Remove Hardware" thing near the clock, "The blah blah blah Network adapter can now be safely removed".
The wireless hasn't been working ever since.
The troubleshooting that I've done so far are:
Make sure the wireless button on the computer is enabled, it will not enable, it is a "touch" button, and it lights up blue when it's working, it won't even respond to my touch, the other buttons next to it do work. So that's not helping at all.
I have two of the exact same laptop, I switched the wireless card that's installed INSIDE the laptop, not a wireless card that just slides in the side, one that's under the bottom panel, I swapped them, uninstalled the driver, and connected via. ethernet to reinstall the drivers. No dice.
It's not showing up in the device manager or anything..Click to expand...

I've swapped the card itself, swapped the whole LED board (the board with the power button, wireless button, etc)
Nothing seems to work..

I was running Windows 7, and just switched back to Windows XP, SP3.

Help is very very greatly appreciated, thanks in advance..

Was this always a problem. ?If not, what changed? Hardware/software ?
Any other wireless devices affected ?
Let's check for wireless interference :
Wifi test exe.

Download and run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspecto from
www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php
on the problem machine. Post a screen shot of the main screen(networks screen) here.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button

Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.

After installing IE8 (internet explorer 8) my wireless adapter stopped working on my HP530 XP laptop. This happened before after another Automatic update from Microsoft that required me to uninstall the update to get it working again.

This time after IE8 the wireless remained dead after uninstallation. All drivers from HP failed, the HP-site tests failed and HP service guys had no idea to fix it. Eventually they told me to bring it in, minimum cost R2000 ($250)

It happened before, so i searched and found a driver that fixed it, this is what i learned:
1. If the adapter is missing from your Device manager, but lights up for a moment just after startup, it is probably not fried, but needs to be recognised by windows again.
2. HP can not help you to fix it and will take your money and it will happen again...soon
3. Use this link for a Broadcom Wireless Driver (another for Vista is on the same site):
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-63623.html
4. The driver filename is: 63wb05ww.exe
5. Read the installation instructions carefully, do not just run it, reboot, and the little blue light will shine again!
6. Make sure your BIOS is up to date.

Hope this helps, and stick it to HP for selling us laptops that they KNOW have this adapter problem.

Good Morning - Any help is appreciated.

I purchased a new HP laptop (G42 41 5DX) with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 BIT. When connecting to wireless, it says limited access and is not working. However, when connecting via the ethernet cord, I can get online with no problem. We own a desktop and another laptop which connects to the wireless without any problems so I know that the signal is fine. Verizon Fios is my ISP and my router is an Actiontec MI424WR Rev E.

I've tried a hard reset of the router (leaving it unplugged) but this has not fixed the problem.

Any advice?

A:Wireless not working on new laptop

You will want to go into the network and sharing center on your Win7 machine.

Choose the option to set up a new connection use the manual wireless set up then designate your routers settings when you do that. Win 7 likes to use WPA2-PSK security and AES encrytion. You also need to type in your SSID and your wireless password.

It's also important to go back into your routers wireless settings after you reset your router to create the SSID and password, you will also need to select the security and encryption again. Use those settings when you set up your Win7 wireless connection.

I have an Acer TravelMate 290 (running XP) and have recently installed a BT broadband homehub. I initially had no problems accessing the wireless network but then my PC stopped detecting any wireless networks - as though the radio was off. Now I cannot switch my radio on - the switch on the PC is not working at all. The problem began once I brought the PC out of hibernation after having (accidently) switched the homehub off and on.

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the BT software, updating the wireless driver (from the Acer website) - all with no success.

Something that may or may not be relevant is that I also recently installed a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse onto the laptop.

Has anybody experienced similar problems or have any suggestions? Advice gratefully received.

Hi,

I have a Sky broadband connection using a Netgear Super Wireless Router UOM which connects perfectly with my wireless enabled Toshiba laptop.

The problem has been trying to get my PC to talk to the router. I bought a Belkin Wireless G USB adapter (F5D7050)a few weeks ago and with some help from Belkin's helpline eventually got it working. However, within a few days it stopped working and after many long and expensive phone calls to Belkin's support desk, ended up with a new USB Adapter (same model) but which still will not connect. I've been battling with this for the last two weeks and have given up on Belkin support.

My laptop continues to work perfectly with the router. However, the Belkin Wireless Monitor dialogue box shows it's connected to the network (it shows the SSID), Encryption: TKIP, Link speed 36 Mbits/sec. Signal strength and link quality are at 60%. The IP information section in the same dialogue box shows Disabled under DHCP status while there is nothing next to current IP, subnet mask, default gateway or DNS server. The link information box shows there is a link between the computer and the router, but no link between router and internet.

Big problems in Control Panel, Network & Internet Connections, Network Connections where there is nothing under name, type, status or device name - only white space.

If you still have issues, let's see this.

Since arriving at my sister's house, where she has Verizon Wireless, I cannot access her wireless internet. I get the 'limited or no connectivity' message. I can see the network, I have put in the WEP key, and nothing. I can hardwire to the router using an Ethernet cable, and it works fine, but the wireless does not work. Repair yields a "Unable to renew your IP address" message; i've tried ipconfig /release and /renew, to no effect. I tried running the disc that came with her Verizon wireless, and again, nothing. A:Wireless Adaptor in laptop not working

its possible theres an option to disable in the bios

BUT Try reseating the wireless adapter

If the adapter is easily accessible, usually through a cover on the bottom of the laptop.
Remove and reinsert it carefully and firmly to make sure it is not loose.
Then remove and carefully and firmly replace it several times to cure any possible looseness or corrosion.
At the same time check to make sure the antenna leads are securely attached.
Note: This is not taking the machine apart. We do not recommend removing the keyboard when that is necessary to find the wireless.

A:Wireless has stopped working on laptop

Go to the Device Manager and uninstall the driver for the network adapter. Restart the laptop and Windows should reinstall the driver automatically. See if this clears up the problem. If not, it might have failed. You could try going to Add and Remove Programs (if XP) or Programs and Features (if Vista or W7) and uninstall the LAN driver if one is there and install a fresh driver from Sony.

If none of that works, consider getting a USB wireless adapter.

I have a Dell laptop (Win7 Home Premium, 64Bit) and it seems like it always has difficulty connecting to WiFi routers that are using 802.11g. I have a Wireless-N card on my laptop and I would think it would be backwards compatible, right??
I'm the same person, with the same laptop, as this post: http://forums.techguy.org/networking/1079721-dns-lookup-failed.html
and all the symptoms that I was trying to solve in that post are relevant again.
At the time that post was made, I lived in an apartment and the modem/router from my cable company was wireless-G and my laptop seemed to experience intermittent DNS problems. I could never REALLY use the internet for very long, but sometimes some websites would seem to load, but usually pictures would have a problem. Other times the seemingly DNS issue would not let me load any websites at all. While I was on vacation I was able to connect perfectly to 2 different WiFi networks. I know for sure that one of them was Wireless-N (not sure about the other one).
Eventually I moved and my new modem/router from my new cable company was Wireless-N. My computer has connected to that network perfectly for months. Now, on vacation again, I tried to connect to a "G" network again and all the old problems came back EXACTLY as they were before.
Is it possible that my Wireless-N card has that much trouble connecting to Wireless-G networks? If so, is there any fix??

The variation in the signal strength indicates probable incorrect driver or defective adapter or router (or wireless access point). Try the latest wireless driver from the laptop manufacturer's web site. If that does not work right try the driver directly from Intel's site.

If possible check Xirrus with another computer, or another adapter, to see if the router is having difficulty maintaining a constant signal strength (a variation of one or two dBm is OK).

I've had wireless on this pc before. A while back, we had a tech come out from out internet provider to fix a few things, and we told him we already have a few other devices on our wireless network, so it may be a better idea to connect through an ether-net cord to our main pc for a more secure connection.

That has worked fine for the most part, but now there's a different problem, and I think I need to be able to connect wireless in order to fix it.
If it matters, the problem is, that any game I try to patch via the game launcher, times-out.
I actually spoke with a CSR from Square Enix, he said it may have to do with the port-forwarding, then I spoke with a rep in technical support from our local provider, and she said there is no port forwarding through the(ir) ether-net but it is available through wireless.

So, that's essential what has brought me here.
I'll upload a couple of pics, so you can actually see that:
A: There is no wireless enabled on my pc at all and
B: There's no wireless driver - just the one on my driver list that, tbh, I don't know much about.

I've already tried uninstalling the driver then re-installing, (didn't detect anything).
I've tried power-cycling my modem.
I've messed around with every option in the "Network and Internet" settings in my control panel.
I've checked all around the outside of my pc, JUST IN CASE it's weird and has a switch somewhere that enables/disables wireless.
Just to confirm, yes, there is indeed... Read more

My laptop will connect to the internet via my wireless router, but it only does so upon me manually clicking and connecting my modem each time i turn my computer on.

http:[email protected]/8670924770/in/photostream

Also you can see that even though the internet works, it shows a yellow triangle with an explanation point, and when I hold my mouse over it, it states "Linksys No Internet Access" even though i'm currently on the internet.

When I use my iphone or ipad to connect to wireless, it lets me connect to Linksys, it says it has an excellent signal, but it won't actually work to load any webpages/social media/etc.

I guess I'm trying to figure out which piece of equiptment is the problem, is it the modem , the router, or both?

Then I can know who to call for support if I need to!

Yesterday I was using my laptop, everything was working fine, I left it for a couple of hours whilst I went away to do something else, when I came back it was in Standby Mode, I powered on & I noticed that my wireless wasn't picking up my network, I tried multiple restarts, installing the device driver again & switching to switch on the side to no avail it just has a Orange light & does nothing.

Anyone know anything else I could try?

Really hope it's something software related, my DVD drive failed a few months back, hope I don't have to spend more money on it.

A:Laptop Wireless Randomly Stopped Working

You've done the driver, good. You've checked the switch, good. I doubt a System Restore will help here, but you could also try that.

Also, most of the laptops face the problem with the residual charge storage. Residual charge gets stored near the RAM chips of the laptop. If the voltage of the residual charge reaches threshold then the system will not be able to access the memory and hence will give some problems while working. To bring the laptop back to the working state, you will have to clear the residual charge which is stored on the laptop. To clear the residual charge, shut down the laptop and disconnect it from the AC source. Remove the battery and then press the power button of the laptop for about 30 seconds. Replace the battery and see if the problem still persists or not.

It may be just a matter of reinstalling the wireless driver. You can find this driver at the HP support site, under your laptops model number. Your laptop may be infected with a virus or other malware

Hi all,

Just to say that if anyone has the same problem with the wireless not appearing to work with windows 7, I have found out that if you use the normal status bar (bottom right) and select your access point, and type in your key, this will not work. You have to do it on the manual setup of the network and type in the access point and key there with your desired security and then windows 7 will actually connect to the wireless access point.

hope that helps.

Hello guys

a very annoying problem I have eversince I got wireless internet in 2004. My internet just randomly stops working, mostly when I boot my laptop or when I get it out off standby. This is what happens:

I try to connect to my router, but Windows says "cannot connect to belkin54g" (SSID). The strange thing is, I had the same with my old Windows XP computer years ago, but back then I had a Linksys router. My current router is a Belking (no idea what model).

Also very weird is the fact that my internet monitor (I installed a Windows 7 desktop gadget) shows that the connection is being interrupted all the time. It goes from 33% signal strength to 100% in 3 seconds but after another 3 seconds the signal is lost and the gadget is displaying 0% signal strength. Though the LED on my router's WLAN is not red, nor are any other LED's colored red.

Can someone pleaaaaaaaaaaase help me out? I got this problem for years and years. I've also configured my network card not to go in standby modus whenever the laptop is in standby, this didn't work out the way I've hoped.

One more thing, once I am connected to the router and have access to the internet, there is no problem anymore and I can be online for like 1 month without rebooting or whatever. But sometimes when I reboot/come back out of standby it just doesn't work and I need to reboot again. Sometimes it still doesn't work after rebooting so I reboot again and then it is mostly working, but it is so *beep* annoying... Read more

Hi! I wonder if anyone can help me with a computer issue I've recently been having. The 'Wireless Network Connection' on my laptop doesn't seem to working properly. When I boot it up I can see the Wirless network icon is animated in the task bar and after what seems like ages sometimes I get a connection. When I check the strength sometimes it indicates it's good if I'm practically sitting on top of the router, this seems to eventually degrade to low until finally the connection drops. 'Repairing' with XP repair facility doesn't work. I can forget about getting a connection if I move further away from the router. At the moment I'm relying on using an ethernet cable snaking across the dining room, which isn't really practical with a toddler and a dog racing around. Recently a friend put a bigger HD in and before this it was working fine, so I suspect that it may be due to this. I think it's due to the wirles... Read more

I did nothing to make it stop working. I was on the internet, stepped away, came back, and couldn't connect. I checked the online connection (by clicking the little icon in the bottom right part of the screen) and it came up with an error. I went to Device Manager, and there is a "!" next to LAN-Express IEEE 802.11 PCI Adapter. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, but the "!" is still there.

Did the actual hardware break somehow? Is there anything I should do before bringing it back to where I bought it? I've only had it for a few months, and never before had a problem

A:HELP!! new laptop and wireless network but no working internet!

Click Start, Control Panel then Network Connections. You should have a Wireless connection there. Double click it. Click View Wireless Networks and you should have a wireless network there. If not click refresh network list on the left. If you do have one shown click on advanced settings then wireless settings. Click on Advanced make sure Any Available Network is checked. If more that one wireless network is showing you have to move your Up to the first position. Also do you have Wep Or Wap enabled? If so you would have to enter the key. Also make sure you are close to your wireless router when doing this to rule out a weak signal.

A:Wireless laptop was working earlier today and now it isn't

Welcome to TSG:
We are going to need much more info before we can make any suggestions.
So let's get to it.
Are other pc's able to use the wireless network ?
Any hardware/software changes before the problem occurred ?
Let's see:
Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

And:
Let’s take a look at the status of the network adapters

Device manager:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.
1. Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
2. Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
3. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?
4. should be enabled and working properly.
5. If error code,what is it ?

It would be best if you could post a screen shot of Device Manager with the Network adapters and Other devices sections expanded.

Hi all!!

Having a bit of a nightmare with my new laptop, hope someone can help! I recently purchased a Samsung laptop, model number NP350E7C-A04UK on Windows 8, everything worked fine for the first few months, I actually love the machine! Haha. Unfortunately though, last week, the wireless internet decided to stop working. I've got no idea why this has happened, I have not updated or changed anything in the system. I can connect fine when I plug in an Ethernet cable and my phone connects to my internet through the wireless with no problem so I know the router is working properly. Now the laptop finds wireless networks and says they're available but when I try and connect it simply says 'unable to connect to this network'. I've tried all the usual suspects, updated the wireless driver, uninstalled and re-installed it, I even took my laptop to a mates to see if it would connect to theirs. None of these have worked. I am now officially out of ideas so I've decided to turn to people who clearly now far more than me about this sort of stuff!! Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers in advance guys!

Since you cannot connect to your router or other routers as well, I would recommend the following action for starters:

Disable your anti-virus and retest.
Boot into safe mode with networking and retest.

Hi all,

I have had this laptop, this problem has occured twice. Hopefully someone can help!

I did a factory reset to resolve this issue which only worked for one night.

Basically after factory reset last night all was well, wifi connecting fine, played games on it till 1am this morning. Upon loading up my computer this morning after waking up this wireless is connected but wont respond or load web pages.

It works whilst wired, (am using it now plugged in) the only thing i can think which is doing this is the windows updates when i shut down the computer, this happened the first time i got it out of the box too.

I can use samsung recovery software to reinstall the windows software but keep everything else on the computer. This works for a while but soon after windows updates the wireless stops working again. This morning though instead of doing a restore i have installed the drivers for the wireless from intel, downloaded more windows updates to try to solve but nothing has worked.

Please would someone shed some light on this for me?

Let me know if you need any information? I have the laptop specs in my profile.

Thank you

No dice.
It's not showing up in the device manager or anything..

[edit] I'm running Windows XP Professional, SP3

I'm lost.

Help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hello,

I've connected to the internet using an Airport Extreme, on my HP laptop (one year old), running Vista. It has worked fine for a year, and wireless connection is working on all other computers in the house, but suddenly will not work on the HP laptop anymore.

It sees the available networks, but goes into an indefinite state of "aquiring network address," but never connects. When I plug in ethernet cable, it works.

Can you help? I have no idea why it would suddenly stop working! I tried to "repair" the connection, and it said it "could not refresh IP address."

Please help! I'm clueless.

I have a HP laptop that runs windows Vista Premium, and is connected to an old Netgear wireless router, with which a broadband modem is connected to.

I have had this setup for nearly two years, and has been running great, including this morning. However tonight I cannot get the laptop to connect to the internet. I have had a couple of weird issues before, but restarting the computer has always fixed it. This time I have restarted everything, and I can access other computers on the network (not wireless) but not the internet.

Strangely, a hard drive that is connected to another computer that is shared for my backups is also not being found. (the other computer is plugged into the router through an ethernet cable, and internet works fine).

MSN, Explorer and the like will not connect to the net. Interestingly, when I start Mozilla Firefox, which loads a simplified google homepage, after a long long time, loads about hald way.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be, I dont know what to do or try, because I havent seemed to change anything to stop it working. Any ideas I could try would be much appreciated.

I spent about an hour going through similar posts here but didn't really find what I needed. I'm hoping this is just something stupid on my part.
Here's the deal:
My sons laptop crashed. I did what I could to recover it but, no good. Was able to recover his important files (from help I got here) so I picked up a new harddrive (WD60gig) and installed WINXP Pro fresh.

My desktop is hardwired from a Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband router that is connected to cablevision via a 3Com U.S. Robotics modem.

The problem now is trying to get an internet connection on the laptop.

Prior to the crash, he was able to connect using the wireless router.

I've tried going directly to the laptop from the modem just to get an internet connection but I haven't got that to happen yet.

Do I need to install the 3com modem software on the laptop?

I just installed Norton Antivrus 2005 on the Desktop.

How do I check for Firewall issues?

Any help is appreciated. Even just a pointer to a good article might do it.
Thanks.

Hi guys!

I just bought an HP Pavilion dv6830us Notebook PC with Windows Vista SP1 and I would like to downgrade to XP. At first I was having some trouble trying to install XP on this laptop because of the SATA Drive, I finally got it installed.

My only problem is the wireless driver. I installed all the XP drivers that I found in more than 10 websites and my PC seems to be working ok but I can't get the wireless to work, I tried more than 3 different wireless drivers and none of them work. The wireless button is ON so this can't be the problem.

Here are a list of website where I got the drivers from (including the wireless drivers that didn't work):

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3686687&lang=en

Something interesting that I noticed... when I open Device Manager in my laptop I see a question mark for Network Controller and Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus.

Under "Network adapters" I see the following:

1394 Net adapter (I think this is the wireless card that is integrated with my laptop).

Realtek (this is the hardware for the ethernet cable).

I don't see any question mark for 1394 Net adapter and Realtek.

Can somebody please help me with this?

Hey guys,

Earlier today I performed a windows update on my Acer Aspire 5600 laptop, and after the restart my wireless stopped working. The update was an optional hardware one for my ethernet port software apparently, and I've no idea if it has caused the problem or not.

I connect to a Belkin 54g wireless router, and usually when I turn the laptop on it automatically connects fine. Now however, I get a red cross through the icon saying it's disconnected or a 'Limited or no connectivity' warning message. I tried looking up the problem using the details button when this box comes up, and it seems in the list of things such as IP, DNS settings etc the last three items have no numbers next to them. The thing is, I can't even pick up any wireless networks anymore. I use the search function and the laptop finds nothing, even though I know my wireless is on and working efficiantly.

It seems to me like my wireless adapter in the laptop is disabled, even though it isn't. I've tried all I can think of, anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks a lot,
- Lee

When I try and access the internet through any of the main browsers (I.e. I also cannot access it through any of my Windows 8 apps. I know it's not an issue with the home broadband itself and is something to do with my laptop as it is running fine both wirelessly and through using an Ethernet cable on all other devices. I would really appreciate some help with trying to fix this asap as I have spent a lot of time researching this issue and trying most things to resolve it without success, I also need to use the internet for loads of coursework over the summer hols and cannot afford to be taking it to a pricey IT technician. Take a look at the file
\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hoststhere MUST be at least a line reading 127.0.0.1 LOCALHOST
but the question is there anything other than comments in it?
If so, leave the comments and the localhost line and delete everything else.

If you modify the hosts file, then you also need to

ipconfig /flushdns
net stop "dns client"

So, I'm trying to use the method shown at How to Turn Your Windows 8 Laptop into a Wireless Access Point
I get the same results he shows in the screenshots and it shows up as running. Problem is when I try to connect to it from another device it gets stuck on "Authorizing..." and gets stuck in a loop trying to connect.
If I retype "netsh wlan show hostednetwork" while its trying to connect it shows my device.
Some screenshots:

While my phone is trying to connect and is stuck on "Authenticating...":

EDIT: Oh also I think its worth noting that I'm trying to share my WiFi connection. I'm not using Ethernet at all.

So WiFi connection > wifi hotspot is what I'm trying to do.

Hello,

Try a refresh turning off the wifi on the device then back on, can sometimes hang.

I've tried that too and I also didn't always got the command line correctly the first time.

Now I use Virtual Router Plus and it gets the job done faster.

When something during connection fails, try again.

I have a window 7 laptop. of recent it no longer recognizes .zip files. I've re-downloaded and re-installed winzip and 7-zip, yet all I see as zip files are white unrecognizable icons. Please how do I resolve this? It appears I might mistakenly deleted the application that does that from the registry or temp folder. How do I get to have my system recognize zip files again? I appreciate whatever help available. Thanks

Hey guys,

After reading a few other posts about similar topics, I thought that I'd try to create my own thread.

I just bought a Samsung laptop, Windows 7 i3 core processor, 6GB ram, with an atheros ar9485wb-eg wireless network adapter.

I have seen similar threads indicating the failure of this particular wireless network adapter, and another guy took his laptop back to the store to exchange it for another one.

Is this a SAMSUNG issue? The laptop is nice in all other aspects, however when playing games especially the problem is very clear.

When playing LOL, I've been getting "Attempting to reconnect" quite often, when playing Starcraft II, same problem, when I'm browsing the internet.. yep same deal... I've searched for driver updates, nothing has been found.

Should I just return the laptop? This seems like such a hassle for a brand new computer to be having such problems.

I have another ACER laptop which is quite inferior in comparison, however it always has a 5 bar connection, whereas the new SAMSUNG has 2 or 3 at best.

Hope someone out there is having a similar problem and has found a solution! Other than going back to the store and trying to explain the problem with an under-trained sales clerk at Futureshop who will most likely give me a VERY hard time...

Thanks in advance anyone that can help, I'm getting desperate...

A:atheros ar9485wb-eg wireless driver on SAMSUNG LAPTOP not working

I have an Atheros AR9485 on my desktop board (not sure about any special designations). Those problems don't seem to be appearing with it.

Can I assume Samsung loaded the drivers for the device? In Device Manager, under the properties, Driver tab, Driver Details, I show it using athrx.sys and vwifibus.sys drivers, just so you can compare, since yours may be different.

I suppose there could be a situation with the antenna or the way it is implemented in the Samsung.. Can you access the device and check the antenna connections? Are you showing good signal strength

Hi all

Just wondering anyone could help me with this please? I used to use irish broadband, a friend's friend helped me connect that to a wireless router, which was all working fine, however i cancelled the irish broadband in May, and i think by then my wireless on my dell inspiron 6400 was still working once i turned on the laptop, i could view all the wireless connection available. i have Intel PRO/Wireless 3845ABG network connection built in.

Then in May i got meteor broadband to go, i installed that, which is working fine. however, since then, my wireless has stopped working, i tried to fix it for days, but could not get anywhere, which is very stressful because everything is turned on and enabled, i looked through trouble shooting and i ran ipconfig, but it says 'media state disconnected'. I rang meteor, and they told me to go to device manager, which i had ensure all card/connection is enabled. but maybe there is something else, im just not sure where to look and fix the problem. i installed meteor broadband on another laptop, which the wireless on that laptop is still working perfectly, only my Dell wireless connection is not

could anyone give me any advice please?

Really appreciated!
