My Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't recognize charger any more. And unfortunately my warranty expired 2 month ago.It was plugged in and working in the morning, but then in the afternoon I noticed that it was running on the battery only. It wont start without battery (just charger plugged in).
1. So here what I have done to debug. Me and my brother, we have purchased the same Dell laptops at the same time a year and a bit ago. This is why for a debugging purposes it was good.I took my charger and plugged in to his computer. And it works. Definitely not the charger issue I guess. And when I plug charger in to my computer, green light is still on the charger. And I have the original charger that came with the laptop.
2. Now, laptop works on the battery only, so this means that motherboard is working. I guess.
3. Next thing I did was unplugged charger and removed the battery from the laptop. Then I pushed and hold "Power" button for 45 seconds to discharge a flea charge. Plugged charger back in but laptop wont start.
4. Next I started laptop on the battery, went to BIOS and checked if the charger is recognized in the BIOS. No, it doesn't recognize charger. So, if it is not a charger then what else can it be?
5. Laptop doesn't have any strange smells so I'm not sure if anything happened with the motherboard, but I would assume mother board is ok because it works of the battery.
6. I was thinking updating the BIOS, but I can't, because it wont update whi... Read more

A:Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't work with charger. Charger is not recognized. Not charger problem.

Hi CJ777,
Thanks for reaching out with your query. You pretty much figured out all points of failure. Good job.
If the adapter is not detected in BIOS, it most likely is an issue with the mother board. In the BIOS set up, AC adapter should show up as 65w or 90w. If the adapter status is 'None' or 'Unknown Device Installed', it indicates that the mother board is not detecting the adapter for which the battery is not getting charged. Once the battery charge drains, I'm sure the adapter will not charge it again. Replacing the system board should resolve this issue.

Asus UX31E,x64 Windows 7 Home Premium(I also had ultimate before reformatting)

I have an ASUS UX31E. Pretty much since I first got it I have been experiencing this problem.
The problem being that occasionally when I remove or insert the charger into the laptop, it freezes. By completely freezing I mean screen freezing and the only option being to hold down the power button to force a power down.

It only happens occasionally though, not every time I remove or insert the power cable. Sometimes maybe a few times a day or even a week.
There isnt really any immediate or obvious similarity in what I am doing at the time of freezing although I have a suspicion it could be to do with the graphics card as it most happens when i am full screening something.

I have reformatted a bunch of times and this is still a problem, so i suspect its hardware. But when I phoned the ASUS customer service they said that the engineers would have to be able to recreate the problem.
I dont know what exactly triggers it! So i have to find out before sending it to get repaired!!

So I got a toshiba satellite l300d and it does not charge/turn on. I bought a new socket and charger that work. The board looks fine with no corrosion. Is there anything that could be stopping the laptop from working and could it be fixed?

A:Laptop - no charging light even when socket & charger works

Does the laptop have a separate power board? Is that what you mean by "new socket" ? Or did you replace just the jack (desolder / resolder new jack) ?

May need to crack it back open and use a digital multimeter to see what voltage is coming through it.

I don't use my computer for maybe a whole year.
Now, I wanted to use it but it's not working. My battery is addicted, basically, if I don't have a charger I won't be able to turn on the computer.
So when I plugged the charger on the wall, the light on the box charger was solid (it didn't blink); However when I plugged it in the computer the light blinked.
I don't know what's the problem and I would like to fix it, if possible.

Recently I bought a charger for my HP G61-110SA which was just a replacement adapter. Now yesterday it did something weird. Basically, there are two pictures of the two indicators there are to show whether it is charging, one is on the front and one is next to the port on the side. Basicaally the charger wasnt changing the indicator on the side or the one on screen but the one on the front was working when I turned it on. By default the laptop chages brightness when plgged in but now it sort of brightens a bit (not to the full level as should do) and then goes back to normal. Today the laptop is still doing the same but the front light now only turns on for a few seconds before turning off! I dont know whether it is charging. Is this the laptop or the charger. Any help would be useful, I have attatached the side indicator and the front one

UPDATE: I found a website which said you could turn it off and start without battery but with charger and then turn off and use both. However, I turned it off and removed the battery and it wouldnt charge. Then I put the battery in and it started charging-weird. Also the light on the front doesnt last very long so I am stuck. ANY HELP?

A:Charger icon not changing but charger is working

it could be that your battery is not working properly. how old is the laptop ?
I have read in places on the interwebs about people resetting their batteries by putting them in the freezer overnight.

Try removing the battery and reinstalling it. it may not be connecting properly or snapped in all the way. Some components have an FRU # on them which is the field replaceable part number. I don't see why the battery cannot be shipped to you anyway. But you need to call Tech Support to process this since the forum is NOT tech support only a forum of users primarily.

On the power supply, at the end that plugs into the computer, the connector is cylindrical with a thin metal pin in the middle. That metal pin has broken off but the plug light still goes on when the connector is plugged in. Can I still continue to use the charger or will the computer be damaged? If not, I would appreciate an explanation as I am familiar with electronics. What is the function of the center pin? The plug end has a third prong for ground. Thanks in advance

A:Connector pin broken but charger still works, safe...

If it is still warrantied, you could likely get it replaced as a defective component.Power bricks are inexpensive to replace, and whenever you have any future issue with your ThinkPad, you're always going to wonder whether or not the glaringly missing pin contributed to it.If you live in the USA, it will be easy to replace if you look locally or even order an inexpensive aftermarket model on Amazon. If you really like living on the edge of uncertainty by using electrical devices with broken components then keep on using it.

Hi, I have a HP Pavilion g7-2361eb Azerty, and I also used to have another HP Laptop that I got from work.I no longer have the one from work, but I still had the charger for it. Now my cleaning lady decided to put all the chargers and everything she  could find together, and I no longer know which charger I should use on the Pavilion g7. These are the 2 chargers. And I also found this info on my laptop:  I was told that I couldn't just use whichever chargers, because one is 19.5V and the other 19V, and the A-values are also different...But then when I look at that picture on the laptop, it seems to say it has a range? Thanks a lot for any support, because I cannot use my laptop, and I am too afraid to damage it if I pick the wrong charger. Dieter

I have a laptop in which the charger 'pin' (to plug into laptop) seems bad. It's a bit loose when I wiggle it and when in the laptop, the cord has to be positioned just right for it to charge (it seems to lean the pin to where it can charge). I'm not sure if it's the charger or the port.

The charger (call it #1) is 19V, 2.37a, 45w. I have another charger (#2) (same brand laptop, different, lesser model). The voltage specs are 19v, 1.75a, 33w.

Can I safely use charger #2 to verify weather the problem is the charger or the port for charger #1's laptop?
Thanks!

A:Laptop charger

If the connector from charger #2 fits correctly into the laptop in question, then yes, you can use it for troubleshooting the problem.

Obvious answer is you fried the power input circuit using too high a voltage. Please tell me it was an accident and you didn't use the 30v power supply on purpose.

Hello, my lenovo charger broke. It charges but the wire has to be in an angle and if I move it stops charging.
I have a second charger for laptop. The charging port fits in perfect.

Here is the specs of my charger
Output 20V - 3.25 A

Specs of other charger (Really old Toshiba ~ 2007)
Output 19V - 6.3 A

A:Using a different charger for laptop?

When considering non-original laptop chargers, the voltage needs to match exactly while the current needs to be equal to the original or higher. In your case the current rating for the other charger is fine but the voltage is not correct. It's possible that the laptop has a voltage regulator inside to compensate for the lower voltage but since I have no knowledge of the inner workings of your Lenovo, I can't say whether the 19V is close enough.

i have a dell inspiron 1721 and i keep having the same problem with my charger. i get a new one, from dell.com, and it works great for a couple weeks to a month, but after that i get the same message of "the charger plugged in is not a dell 90wat charger, your operating system will run slower, please plug in a dell 90wat charger." When i got this message the first couple of times i just got a new one thinking i did something wrong, and the charger im using right now is not a dell charger, it's a knock-off one that i got for half the price on a discount website. This charger however did the same exact thing as my dell chargers, it worked great for a few weeks then gave me the message about it not being a dell 90wat charger although it is slighty different because this time it says it is plugged in but not charging.

any ideas what is wrong?

A:laptop charger help

...It's a Dell.
On that same screen it should say how to disable that message. Sometimes you have to update the BIOS to actual be able to get rid of that message or be able to use non-Dell adapters. Latest BIOS is here: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=1&fileid=252216

But if its not charging the battery then there could actually be an issue. Possibly with the charging circuits on the mainboard, or there's possibly something damaging the adapters, like brownouts or surges. Does the jack in the laptop seem loose?

Hello,

Whenever I plug my adapter into my laptop the CPU goes straight to 95-100% and stays on it but when I take it out it goes back to normal.

Also, It is a newer charger and it takes way longer to charge the laptop fully.

A:Laptop Charger

Is this "newer charger" the battery charging circuit in your laptop or do you actually mean the power supply (AC power cord and AC to DC adapter)? If the former, did you have the work done and do you have a warranty? If the latter I suspect you got the wrong power supply.

So I just bought a used HP dv7 laptop. It came with a Dell charger and was able to charge fine. I use my laptop as my home computer so its always plugged in. Since I always keep it plugged in, I removed the battery so over time it wouldnt kill the battery life.
So everything runs good, but I also like to play games on my laptop. when I do my laptop shuts off. I thought it might be my laptop crashing, but I noticed that the small light on the charger was off. I unplugged the charger from the wall socket and plugged it back in and the light came back on and my laptop powered up. The charger was very very hot. So I pointed a fan at it and played the game again, but it shut off again.
I thought it had to do with the dell charger and the HP laptop, So I bought a brand new HP charger. But it still does the same thing, the charger shuts off.

Is there some settings I have to change? or something wrong with my laptop?
I cant figure it out.

A:My laptop charger keeps shutting off?

Normally in HP Laptops the shutting off of the charger when the battery is fully charged is quite normal. Happens with my HP also but not with Dell Laptop where the charger remains always on.

Basically what's happened is this: Recently I got the "warn me if my battery needs replacing" message on Windows, so I ordered a new one which arrived today, then I fitted it (pre-charged to 75%) and it worked perfectly.

Next I plugged in my current charger only to find that just like my previous battery, no charge is being received, and I don't mean the "plugged in, not charging" message, but rather it just simply doesn't work.

Seems like the charger is defective, but what are the odds that both the charger and the battery would fail at the same time? I've tried multiple fuses in the plug but none of them make a difference, so it's likely not the fuse either...

Hopefully it's just the charger and I can go and order a new one. If that doesn't work I'll dismantle the laptop and make sure the connection from the charging port to the motherboard is working/and is not damaged. After that, I have no clue what could be going on; the battery is fine as is the laptop itself, it just won't charge.

With all that said could someone shed some light onto what may have happened here? I'm getting the feeling that my old battery likely works fine (unless the defective charger damaged it somehow).

I've had problems with my Dell Inspiron 1570 laptop not fully charging for quite some time. The battery would charge normally to about 55% and then just stop there, although the Dell Battery Meter would still say "charging".

I've done some googling and decided that my battery was dying, so I ordered a new one off ebay. This one charges normally to about 70% (or at least that's what the battery meter says), then stays there, just like the old one.
A curious thing I've noticed is that the original battery had the capacity of 5600mAh and the new one only has 4400mAh. 55% of 5600mAh, which is what the old battery was charging to, and 70% of 4400mAh for the new one, are exactly the same values (3080mAh). I have no idea what that means, but it sure is interesting.

Someone already suggested to try battery calibration. Since there was no such option in BIOS, I tried doing it manually, by draining the battery and then recharging it with the laptop powered off. I actually got a few percent less charge that way.

I'm running Windows 8.1, but I've also tried booting a live Ubuntu USB, which made no difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've got a Toshiba Qosmio G50 laptop that I bought quite a few years ago and the charger for it finally konked out on me from heavy use and bending of the cord.
I've been trying to search for a charger for it with the same specifications as the one I currently have. I think the product number for it is PA3658E-1AC3B and it's specs are like 120W, 6.3A, 19V, 5.5mm/2.5mm.

I have been unable to find a charger with these specs and when I search for other chargers with similar specs and so on, when lists of compatible laptops come up, my laptop is never in the list. Now I'm wondering if this is due to because the laptop is actually incompatible or due to the fact that it is rather quite old.

Also, does anyone know what laptop chargers I could be able to use or specs for them. Like would a charger with these specs work for my laptop?
Output: 19V 4.74A 90W
DC Barrel Tip: 5.5 x 2.5mm

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

No the 6 amp adapter/charger won't hurt the laptop. The laptop will only use as much amperage as it needs, and no more. it is okay to use

Alrighty -- so I've looked this up a lot and anywhere I look people don't seem to have a definitive answer. What about you guys? Here's the thing:

I have a laptop (less than a year old), and I take out the battery when it's not charging... because I take care of my things! Thing is; one day I was on my lappy when all of a sudden I lost power and heard a faint beeping noise. I followed my ears and voila, the charger was beeping. I got scared, and unplugged it from my laptop. The beeping continued!

So, without being plugged in to my laptop, my charger is plugged in to my surge protector and continues beeping. I readjust the cords and lightly throw it around a little bit... it works! The beeping stops and the LED is a constant green.

It seems to only happen when I'm at residence, and not when I'm at school.

Question is.. What the HECK is going on here? It's less than a year old. Can chargers die, or is it because of a faulty wire... what do you think? What's more, does anyone know if Dell covers warranty on... battery chargers?

Thanks, any insight you have is appreciated xD

Hi, my name is Ricardo and i am new to this forum.

So i have a problem with my laptop. First i have to said that before this problem occurred i could play "League of legends" at 60fps whitout problems, but when the battery was low, obviusly my fps go down, and when plugged my fps go normal. Then something happend with the fan, and I had to open the computer and there was a little piece of plastic that was obstructing the fan therefore my laptop began to get warm.
I fix that but after that, i could not play normal any game. Now when i play "League of Legends" i have to unplugged the charger when the fps starts to go down, and then my fps go normal, but when they drop i have to plugged again and so on.
I do this every single time i play in intervals of 3-5min so this starts to annoy me.
I have to said that my laptop it's not a good one, i've a Intel HD 4000 and a Corei7.

I don't know what to do, maybe it's the hardware or something else.
Please i need to know if i could do something to repair this or there is nothing i can do.

For your attention thank you.

Should any charger with the same model number work? The model number is ADP-65JH BB

I've been looking around on ebay...I see some with a 2 prong connection and some with 3. Some have slightly different amperage ratings.

Do I need the exact numbers or should any charger with the model number ADP-65JH BB work?

A:Is there anything to I need to know when buying a laptop charger?

Better post all info you can get. Not likely, but possible that 2 chargers with same model number different enough to do harm. Small differences in amperage ratings don't matter, but voltages definitely would, of course. You need to be certain on input voltage and connector types on both ends. You need the right input for your country (which may be indicated by a single letter at the end of the model number).

I'm in need of some major help here. For the past few months my laptop has been randomly charging and running on battery. My brother did something to the charger plugin and now when I plug my laptop charger into my laptop, it just won't charge. I have to spend an hour of my time every few days plugging in the charger, pulling as hard as I can on the cable and pushing something against the laptop charger to keep it plugged in so that it charges. I think that either something in the laptop is bent because I can only have it plugged in in two directions, and maybe something isn't connecting which is why I have to push so hard on the part of the charger that plugs into the laptop. I really can't afford sending it in, and when I tell my parents about it, they honestly could care less about my problem because it's not their problem or their computer. So here I am, with $5, some change, and a laptop that will soon stop being able to run because it's unable to charge. It's got to be the plugin in the laptop that's the problem, right? I have no clue how to fix this

I just bought a new laptop about a month ago now. I noticed the other day that the charger gets really hot. I had it plugged in lastnight charging, while charging I was playing Sims 4. When I shut down, the charger was almost too hot to hold for very long. Now I have had several laptops over the years and never had one get this hot. This can't be normal. The laptop runs great, no errors at all. What should I do?

replace it. This is an early sign of a failing AC/DC converter.

Hi there, newbie here,

The power jack on my toshiba 1900-305 s series laptop is damaged. The power light comes on briefly when the power cable is plugged in but then goes out after a short while without powering up the machine. I therefore need to power up the battery so that there will be enough power for me to extract the small amount of unbacked up data (family photos from a recent event etc) via a flash pen. Is there anywhere I can get a separate charger for the battery, or alternatively a pre-charged battery (anyone got the same laptop that is working and willing to sell a pre-charged battery)? This is likely to be a one off only so that I can transfer the files, I don't think the machine will be repairable or will be prohibitively expensive if it is (currently unemployed). I have inherited a tower pc to replace the laptop. I'm no techie but I can follow instructions and would not be afraid to take the back off a tower pc - laptops are a mystery to me though, but I would be willing to try if it would not damage the data on the laptop. Many thanks for any advice or help anyone can offer.

My roommate's large 17.3" Gateway NV9 laptop had its charger die (no power light) so he insists he can use my smaller 10-year-old HP 510's charger with no problems. I'm guessing his uses more power than mine so could burn out or otherwise mess up my charger. What do you think? The specs are hard to read on both.

I've made this laptop last 10 years, carried it all over the world, it's durable and runs 7 better than any new HP. I dont want to have to replace the charger or hurry it's long-expected death.

A:Can HP charger be used for Gateway laptop?

As long as the power specs match up and the physical plug fits in, you should be fine. HP seems to have changed their power chargers much more often than Dell does, so it wouldn't surprise me if it wouldn't work, or even physically fit.

Hi,

I am looking to buy a universal laptop charger for my Sony Vaio Flip 14A. I just wanted to get some opinions on whether these are normally safe and if there are any risks associated with buying these?

The original spec of my charger is http://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?sp..._id=&am_id=&cm_id=140105335569ed55e27b&pm_id=

while the one I am looking to buy is here http://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?sp..._id=&am_id=&cm_id=140105335569ed55e27b&pm_id=

My main concern is that while my laptop charger shown output 19.5V = 2.3A, the universal one shows 19.5V = 4.7A. I wonder if this can be an issue?

Would appreciate some opinions.

Hello, this is urgent. This just happened a while ago. I was playing a game here on my laptop and it was under 20% battery life, as I continued to play when it was plugged in. And all of a sudden I hear a spark and then my laptop shut down unexpectedly, and I immediately unplugged it and tried turning it on but it wouldn't turn on for a few minutes. Afterwards everything was normal, but as I plugged the charger back in the light indicator on the side of my laptop wont lit up anymore. So I'm not sure if it's my laptop or the charger is broken. Well herro there :3, Anyways YO 8D

Im looking about for a portable charger for my TabletPC (Fujitsu Lifebook T4215) and yeah i know it's old but It works pretty well i will say abeit one big problem it has

It has HORRIFIC Battery life as in i can charge it to the full 4 bars of it's battery and it'll be smoked in about 15-20 mins, I've also got the power settings to near low (The CPU's clocking at 1GHZ now rather than 2GHZ (it's a core2duo t7200 btw) and the screens as dim as can be (I like my screens dim since i love the dark ^^) and since im wanting to travel about with it to my art studio that will kind of not suffice, and also i want to use it for enjoyment like while traveling and such.

So effectively the device i kinda want is to say a portable powerstation, And it'd be cool if it lasted upto per say 3 1/2 hours + from fully charged to near empty And as optionals too it could support nya other two laptops (Lenovo G550 and Acer Aspire 5742) And wouldn't cost me a fortune, 70? would be pretty good, But i also want quality too as this is likely to have some usage to it too.

I don't want the answer "Oh just buy a new tablet" cause i've had that thrown at me and i Don't want to invest money into ANOTHER tablet when i only just bought this one a number of months ago ^^; X),

As said the rest of it's good just not that end, And i'd also rather not take the thing with getting a new battery for it, so Pretty much as the title states, Best portable charger for und... Read more

Hi there

Another possibly better option is to get an AC inverter which you can run from a Car battery -- 12 V DC input ---220 V AC output (as you said 70 GBP I assume UK so electricity supply there (when it's actually working !!) like rest of W/N/E Europe is 220 V not 120 V). This way you can charge the laptop while driving , use the laptop "out in the field" ON MAINS !! and being a 220 V AC you could plug in two other laptops at the same time - I wouldn't actually USE 3 laptops at the same time though on the inverter as you mighty find the Car battery would run down fairly quickly.

(Charging 2 and using one would be fine though).

Here are a load of 150 W one's -- from around 12 GBP to 40 GBP well under your budget --- and to use just plug the inverter into the car cigar lighter socket and your laptop into the standard AC outlet.

Enc pic as well as a link since some people might not know what an "Inverter" is given the lack of any sort of Engineering knowledge these days in Schools etc.

This is the one I use the BESTEK (pic shown) -- as it's 300 W output and even has 2 USB slots for charging USB devices like mobile phones which charge via USB slot (not USB mini==>micro adapters are also available). I have a decent battery in my car so the 300W is fine for me.

Costs 25 GBP and I use a 3 pin ==> European 2 pin adapter as the UK has its 3 pin rather non standard system.

so, is it dangerous or not?
i already ordered a new one, just to be sure, its coming tomorrow.

A:laptop charger is buzzing

If it has only recently started doing this then it might be a duff capacitor... is the laptop still under warranty? If so, Dell can be quite good at swapping these things out.

But, I think you've sorted this out now by getting the new adapter.

Hi to all seven forum,
I came here for a simple question today, the question is, is it better for laptop battery that when I using laptop it is plugged in all time to ac adopter although it is fully charged.
one thing I know that when plugged in charger, the battery not in use, I test that remove battery when laptop in ON condition and AC charger is plugged, the laptop remain ON, so I mad a personal experience that using laptop with plugged in charger, it could save the battery. is it rite.?
Note: that I m not plugged in charger all the time, I only plugged in it when I turn ON laptop. when laptop is not in use and the battery is fully charged (infect it is always charged) I plugged out the AC adopter.
I read many article where many peoples asked the same thing that "should they plugged in charger all the time, (include when laptop not in using)".
but my question is simple which is "should I plugged in charger all time only when I use laptop? is it better for battery.? or it must necessary that we should drain all battery then plugged in charger and remove it when fully charged.?
(sorry for my bad English)
laptop model is Dell Inspiron N4050. 6 cell Li on batter I think. (or lithium)

A:Should I plugged in charger to laptop when I using it.

I'm amazed that this gets asked so often, and I haven't been able to figure out why. There's no reason and no harm in leaving the battery connected all the time. There's no reason to unplug the AC power once it is full charged. In fact, doing so could potentially shorten the life of your battery if it's recharging from a small usage up to 100% often.

I still don't know why people insist on making this a difficult process, to be honest. If you use the laptop on AC power, great. If you use your battery often, or even occasionally, it's a good idea to drain it down completely every so often, and then recharge it back to 100%. There's no harm in using the laptop on AC power with the battery in the laptop.

for a while now i have had to move the charger around so it would charge laptop, and last night it has stopped charging no matter what position i put the wire.

is it the laptop or the charger thats the problem? because green light still comes on the charger.

A:laptop charger not working.

It could be either.

If moving the plug to the computer around, without changing the angle between the cord and back of the plug too much, made the connection come and go, the problem might be in the jack or where the jack is mounted to the motherboard.

If moving the cord around, without changing the position of the plug in the jack too much, made the connection come and go, the problem might be in the cord itself. Say, like a broken internal conductor where the cord enters the back of the plug.

Hope I'm posting this is the right section. I'm not very tech savvy so please forgive any ignorance on the right terms for anything!

I think I'm having a problem with my laptop charger and would like some advice on how I can proceed. I've considered getting in a tech guy to actually look at it but I'm not sure how serious the problem is and if the solution might just be something easy I can do myself (like buying a new charger!)

Previously I was primarily running my Toshiba Satellite laptop plugged in to the wall all the time since I use it as a home computer. We got a new kitten recently, which has meant leaving cords out isn't a good idea as we teach her not to chew things, and so I've had to use the battery during the day when using my laptop and then charge it overnight. I noticed the battery was draining really fast and then eventually stopped charging completely (it was saying plugged in, not charging) and since it was a few years old I just figured the battery needed to be replaced, which I did. I followed the instructions to let it recharge and discharge several times and it has been working great for the last few weeks.

However yesterday after wearing out the battery, I still had some work to do and so plugged it in. It seemed to be charging fine at first but then I noticed it had slowed down a lot, and that the orange light that indicates if it's charging or not was turning on and off. It seems to charge for about ten to fi... Read more

Well, my HP laptop charger is not working so I tried to charge with a Dell charger I had and it worked.

Now reading in the internet, I read that it might be dangerous especially since I am using less amps than specified. The specs of the 2 chargers are as follows:

HP Charger: 19 V, 4.74 A
Dell Charger: 19.5 V, 4.62 A

I read that the voltage difference should not cause a problem but using a lower Amp capacity charger than the original might. Will this small difference matter or can I still use the charger?

Thanks

HI,

Originally I had a problem with my power socket. I then re-soldered it and it worked fine for 6 months. Then one day it stopped working. First I tried a new plug. I didn't want to re-solder again so I ordered a new mother-board from ebay. I installed it but still no lights came on, the seller said the m/board was fully tested but accepted a return. I have now installed a second fully tested m/board and have the same problem. I have tried removing the ram and hard drive. But still no lights when plugged in. I could understand if it wouldn't power up because that might be a hardware fail but its the fact theres no charge that confuses me. Oh and I'ver tried the 'hold the power button 30secs' trick too.

Laptop won't boot if charger is attached

I have a weird problem on this Toshiba Satellite L300 laptop. It doesn't boot whenever it's charger is attached. The charger has no problem bcoz it charges the laptop (only if the laptop is turn off), but Windows can't boot while it is attached.

These are the scenarios:

1. Only battery is attached = Laptop boots and works fine
2. Battery and Charger attached = Laptop wont boot; Right after the POST when Windows starts to load, Laptop restarts.
3. Only Charger is attached = Laptop wont boot; Right after the POST, when Windows starts to load, Laptop restarts.
4. The laptop is running on its battery (already in Windows), but whenever I attach the charger, the laptop turns off, and then charging LED turns ON. Looks like it can't supply power in Windows state.

It's OS is Windows 7.

What parts of the Laptop should I check?
Is this a Software or Hardware problem?

I have an HP 4310S Pro Book. The original adapter stopped working so I bought a class A adapter to save some money. I left it to charge in the room and when I came back after around 20 minutes, there was smoke and I could smell something burning. I found out that my laptop had stopped working and I couldnít turn it on anymore. When I removed my battery, I found that part of it has melted as well. The following day, I took my laptop to the service center, only to find out that my motherboard was burnt and the only remedy was to replace it.

So I went to the shop where I purchased the class A charger from and explained to them what had happened. I blamed their adapter for being responsible for spoiling my motherboard and asked them to shoulder the expenses. They said that it was a 50-50 scenario, that is, it would either be the adapter that spoiled the laptop or that the laptop spoiled the adapter. They agreed to pay for the repairs if I could produce a report from a service center wherein it specifically says that the adapter was responsible for my laptopís damage. When the service center published their report, they were only able to mention that it was only a possibility that the adapter was responsible here as the adapter wasnít working anymore when it was given to the service center. They said that they could not be 100% sure that the adapter was at fault since they do not have any basis to write that.

Hi, my laptop has a problem which I think nobody has. I was playing a game called Mstar from Garena, and I noticed the amount of battery has decreased to 15%. So I went and turn on the charger. Suddenly my game disappeared and a promt(Rundll32) appears repeatedly, no matter how many times I press "Yes", it just keeps on appearing. I can't open any games/applications, including browsers, notepad etc. Everything(except opening folders) won't work even though I opened it with admin. I restarted my laptop and it stucks at "Logging off" so I had to "brute-force shut down". Once restarted, everything is back to normal. I opened my Mstar again, turn off charger(battery's full), and the game disappears, same thing happened before. But when I don't launch any games from Garena, turning on/off battery charger is normal. Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Laptop charger plugged in but not charging

Esmmy, look in the hole on your laptop where the power adapter would plug in and you'll see the silver power pin. Using a push button pen, put it on the end of the power pin and see if you can move the pin at all. Any movement on that pin means it's broken and the DC Jack needs to be replaced. Most DC Jacks are soldered to the motherboard and need to be repaired by someone experienced in desoldering and soldering.

If the DC Jack is broken, the power adapter won't charge your battery since it's not making a solid connection inside. Moving it around too much while plugged in could short something, cause further damage or even a fire.. Best to have it repaired by an experienced technician.

A:Electric shock from laptop charger

Sometimes the following can happen. You are charged up with static electricity and you get a shock touching a device that may or may not be grounded / earthed. Or when you unplug an electronic device there can be a small shock voltage from the collapse of the magnetic field called a BACK EMF

You can probably order a replacement adapter from Philips if you contact them.

You may also pick up a universal laptop adapter that outputs at least 19 volts and has at least the required amps as specified on the laptop or current charger(but its not 42Amps, maybe 4.2 amps?). Universal adapters adjust for automatic voltage, current, and polarity, soemthign a charger from another manufacturer may not do as they will be unit specific.

I'm having some charger problems. I had my charger plugged into and outlet and into the computer and it was working fine but once I unplugged it and moved my computer to a different place with a different outlet it stopped working. In the past, the light on my charger has stayed on even when not plugged in to an outlet or computer. The outlet is not the problem as I have tried plugging it in to multiple outlets. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I apologize for not giving much information; if any other information would be beneficial please let me know. Thanks.

My hp envy 15 laptop adaptor will not fit into my laptop anymore, seems to have a yellow piece of plastic firmly wedged into the plug end of the adapter that is impossible to get out and prevents the plug from fitting into the laptop. We had a bad electrical storm a few nights ago and I'm wondering if this is some kind of prevention mechanism that automatically activates if the adapter gets fried. Can't imagine a perfectly round piece of plastic randomly getting jammed in there.

A:Charger for hp envy 15 won't fit to plug into laptop

It is not a prevention mechanism it is physical damage of some sort. A picture would help a lot. Does the adapter tip look odd? How about the AC jack in the laptop.

I'm looking around for a universal li-ion portable laptop charger for my samsung series 9 laptop. Is it true that as long the output current and voltage is same or above the original charger it should be fine?
Also the connector tip of the orignial charger is of size 4.0mm/1.7mm diameter, does this mean as long as the universal charger has this tip size (even if it says 4.0mm/1.7mm designed for HP Netbook) it would work?

My charger for my asus u45jc-a1 no longer works anymore. I'm checking out ebay as most people seem to buy chargers on there as oppose to other sites.

I see quite a bit of sellers and I see some people sell it for 13.95, others 12.95, others 11.95 and some others for under $10. Is there really a difference between buying any of them as long as they all have a lot of feedback?

Note almost all of them have at least 3000 in feedback and at least 99 percent feedback. There are some with like 300000 in feedback and 99.1 percent, then you have some that are 99.7% feedback and 30000 feedback.

Are all these laptop chargers the exact same one that each seller is selling? When i buy electronic stuff online on ebay, usually i go and pay a few more dollars more if a seller has say 99.7% feedback as oppose to 99.2% or 98.7% feedback. I'm aware if someon has sold 300,000 products, obviously their feedback isn't going to be that good percentage wise compared to someone who sold 30,000 products.

is it true you have to pay sales tax if the seller is in your state?

Yes, and some states merely say if the company has a presence [office or some such] in the state they are required to collect sales tax. The amount of tax or tax rate probably will be the same as for residents. The sales tax is always in addition to the selling price and may or may not include the shipping cost [at least some states tried to tax that].

Hi
I have a Lenovo s10e ideapad netbook
it is running fine but the original charger broke (overheated causing plastic wire to melt)

i replaced it with one I found compatible on eBay
but this also broke after less than 2 months

I checked the Lenovo store and found that they discontinued the s series of ideapad and do not make the AC adapters anymore

how should I replace my charger?
Any universal laptop chargers you can recommend that will be compatible with my laptop/ trustworthy to use ?

A:Buying Universal laptop charger

Wow! You've had 2 AC adapters for your netbook fail? I would seriously look into why they failed as that seems unusual to me. Perhaps the wall voltage where you plug them in is low, that could cause the adapter to work harder and cause it to overheat. Also, make sure the adapter isn't buried under a blanket or anything so that it has the ability to vent the heat it generates.

Here is a link (US, sorry) for a place selling original equipment adapter which is probably your best bet: 30W Original Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3 ac adapter charger power supply ADP-30SH B 20V 1.5A

However, if you want to go with a universal, look for one that has the same output voltage (20 VDC) but has a higher current rating. The original current rating is 1.5A so try to find one that is rated 2A or even more. Having an adapter with a higher current rating just means that it's heavier duty so it shouldn't overheat as easily.

Hi all, i have a Medion MIM2320, MD96654 and all of a sudden it turned off and smoke came out of near where the charger is plugged in so i took the charger out and it stopped smoking, i was able to turn the laptop on again with no problems, but now the battery is dead.

The smoke was an orangey colour and had a funny smell.

Sorry for my basic description but any thought would be appreciated

Thanks

Eoin

A:Laptop smokes when charger is plugged in

Sounds like the charging circuit is Up In Smoke, you will need to take it to a reputable Laptop repair center or Buy a new laptop.

I would not continue to use it, it may be a fire hazard, burn the house down.

My laptop all of a sudden today (after about half year of use) refuses to recognize my charger while my battery is plugged in. Here are the exact symptoms:
1. While battery is plugged in and charger connected, the battery will not charge. If I remove the power cable and plug it back in, it will charge for about 10 seconds before this reoccurs. The battery icon on the lower right of the screen shows as if the power cable is not plugged in. HOWEVER, the hardware cable icon light on the lower right side of my laptop is lit, indicating a connected cable
2. While battery is plugged in and charger connected, if I remove the battery, the computer will shut down(as if the charger is not connected)

I am certain that the charger works perfectly fine, I can run the computer without a battery just fine. I'm not entirely sure if this is a hardware or software issue.

I did not make any system change today or yesterday, nor allow any change that was popped up(the only pop up in the last two day was a jucheck.exe which I clicked no to). This just started happening a hour or so ago for no reason at all for as far as I know, I only noticed because the battery was looking low, thought the cable was insecure but checked it and it was fine. Then I messed around a bit with the cable and battery and found the above

My computer is a Toshiba satellite P755 S5320
My operating system is Windows 7 home premium version 6.1 build 7601 service pack 1

Hello,

First of all, apologies if this is posted in a section not intended for my type of question (although this matched closely with what the issue is).

I am currently experiencing a problem with a laptop charger (or perhaps it is the laptop itself?).

Here's the whole sad story:

At work, each desk we have has a extension lead with 4 available sockets. In my floor alone there are over 20 desks, so over 80 possible charging points. The problem presents itself when I plug in the laptop at my desk, into ANY of the sockets in the extension lead. The laptop does not charge. So then I proceed to go through all 4 of the sockets with the same result - no joy.
After trying this on another three desks, I finally find one single socket which initiates the laptop's charge. Now, without finishing the story, I can say for sure that the sockets I am testing are all being used at one point or another by somebody else and they do not experience this.- now then, that is not the weird part. What is weird is that after the charge is initiated, I can then bring the laptop back to my desk, and plug it into ANY of the sockets there and the charge continues as per usual.

Anyone experience this before?

Would love to hear your thoughts on what could be wrong. I'm currently trying to identify where the fault lies, so please do not think I need a resolution for this issue. A helpful steer towards the failing component would do just fine.

Cheers

A:Laptop Charger selective functioning

First thought would be a faulty power adapter and that's easy to test; swap the power adapter with an exact model or with an universal power adapter. If its not the power adapter then the DC jack in the laptop may be broken and only works some of the time.

Okay so about a week or so ago my laptop (or charger) starting acting strange, would only charge if the charge was in a certain position, so i thought the charger internal wires were broken, so i ordered a new charger and its pretty much the same story, it will only charger in a certain position, now im getting the idea that the port inside is broke ( although looking from the outside of it inside the port, it looks still intact) and getting the impression something needs to be soldered, but i am not so sure, any ideas as to where i go with this? im not very keen on sending it to acer as there service can be hurrendous at times, but if it doesn't cost that much to take it to a local computer store to fix, ill do that, if anyone has any ideas, please let me know

Thanks!

Hi guys,
How's each of you? A new participant, and this forum is undoubtedly the best help-forum one.

However, I'm being so much busy nowadays, running my self-development programs. As they're a lot of programs, the folders and files are accumulative each upon another.

My laptop charger is always connected to the laptop. But still, since a couple of days, has 0% power. No progress in charging, and any improper interruption causes a technical damage to the entire work.
Even though I save my work minute-by-minute; I forget for awhile. Knowingly that I exhausted every possible solution, with no results.

Any help, please?

Have a weird problem here. I think my laptop charger needs to be replaced but want to get some opinions. I teach computer classes for a local computer club (software is my area not hardware). Anyway, I plugged my fully charged laptop's plug into the power strip at the club (the projector is also plugged into the same strip). As the class was progressing, I happened to notice my battery's charge was going down - and it should have been getting juice from the electric outlet. Looked at the battery level and it had dropped quite a bit (2 hour battery on my Acer Extensa 5620Z - 3 1/2 years old). Pulled the plug and put it in another socket - no change. Pulled the plug and plugged directly into the wall - no change. Pulled the plug again and reinserted in same socket - started charging the battery. A week later, same problem. Last night I went to charge it at home. Plugged it into the socket here and charger wasn't working - again. Battery level continued to drop. Tried the charger from my daughter's Toshiba (same voltage etc. - we checked). Battery started charging even though her plug was a little loose in the laptop socket. Switched back to my charger and it was still charging.

Am using Battery Bar since the problem first showed up. It shows the wear on my battery is only 23%. Was really surprised since it's the original and I do use it quite a bit. My first thought was that the battery had had it - but apparently not.

I have a Dell Inspiron 600m laptop and the battery will no longer charge. I know this is a common problem with these and I have already confirmed that it is not fixable (unless I replace the motherboard). As this is a few years old, it would not be worth that expense. It runs fine when plugged in and it will run fine on only battery if the battery happens to have a charge from some other source and I really don't need a new laptop...so...I was wondering if there are any external battery chargers available for this or if anyone has ever built their own. I am pretty handy so I might even be willing to try building one for myself, but I don't know alot about battery tech. It is a Litium Ion battery and I know it should be pulse charged. Would this be a fairly simple do it yourself Project?

Hello! I have been looking online for websites where I can get help for my laptop. I have a Toshiba Satellite L55-C5272. I broke the screen, and replaced it. Then I had one other issue, every time I remove the charger from the laptop, my laptop automatically shuts down. Even with 100% battery. I dont' know what the cause of this is, but I do know I was not messing with the battery. This laptop is about 2 months old, and I don't know what else to do.

If you have any advice or suggestions, you may email me at [email protected]

Thank you for your time,
