E6510 problem reboot and bios update problem

Q: E6510 problem reboot and bios update problem

I have a E6510 notebook . I have a problem to update the bios . Because the notebook has a problem in the POST phase . In fact, if I access the cold pc post BIOS is slow but it works . Instead reboot ( control-alt-delete ) hangs with a flashing light. No other problems . I wanted to try to update the bios from A5 to A9 . but the update is a -executable file that performs the first phase but remains stuck in the reboot . P.S. I do not know other ways of updating and still can not seem to extract the bios files from executable

I need to update my new Latitude E6510 to BIOS patch A01.1. When I run the updater it starts, reboots the laptop but nothing happens. The BIOS is still on A01.  I cannot run the A02 BIOS. Why doesn't this work? Is there a way to make the patch work.
NOTE: I am sure this is the correct file. Used my service tag to choose downloads.

hi everyone

here is my problem, i got a new mobo, cpu, ram and video card. I'm using a hard drive from a old system that already has a os (windows xp) installed on it. When i power up my pc everything boots up to where i guess the drivers load and the windows last config-safe mod-safe mod with command prompt menu comes up. No matter what i pick it just shows my video card name and info then restarts. I'm pretty sure its not the video card because i tryed a old card (pci x16) and the same thing happend. I'm kinda stumped at the moment so any help would be apreciated. Thank you in advance.

A:bios reboot problem

you need to reinstall windows in order to run it with the new hardware. a re-installation is necessary any time you replace your motherboard with a different one or one with a different chip set.

Anyone else have that issue?

Thanks for the reply posting!
I've looked at a number of methods for creating a USB bootable drive and they're all pretty convoluted.  This was easy to follow but the only problem is that the site you provide for getting the HP utility requires some authentication so that was a dead end for me.
However I took your advice, Googled it up and came across an even simpler recipe:  I followed this, created the USB boot drive and *successfully* loaded the new BIOS.
Note: I did reorder the boot sequence of drives in the original BIOS before starting so it found the USB boot before the HDD boot.   Remember to reset this order after the update.

Made the huge mistake of updating BIOS. Had small MOBO usb prob, and for some reason thought a BIOS update would do something. Wasn't too worried because Gigabyte touts Dual BIOS pretty strong.

Anyway, tried updating BIOS, then system would not boot, so the Backup BIOS didn't kick in. btw, the MOBO is a Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro.

So I copied the backup bios to a floppy and used the floppy to fix the main bios. OK, now computer would boot, but would freeze up after the desktop icons appear. Actually would sometimes work for a few minutes, but always froze up.

Boots OK to safe mode, even to the point of getting online, so I downloaded the old bios from Gigabyte, put them on floppy and used that to update the main bios. Same result.

Also did a system restore from XP Pro Safe Mode (because XP wrongly states that this can be undone; didn't find out that System Restore done from safe mode cannot be undone until I tried to undo!).

My tech support (ABS Computer; they rule) thinks that the BIOS is now fine, that some windows files are corrupt and a re-install will fix problem and mobo is probably fine as well. I'll buy that.

anyone have any miracle suggestions before i re-install? Is a repair install worth a shot? Really not looking forward to re-installing all my software and putting all my data back where it belongs to get my email hist., bookmarks, etc. back.

thanks - I will now write the following 500 times: LEAVE THE BIOS ALONE! even with Dual BIOS

Well guys im new to the forum but i have read alot on here and im positive some of you can help me out... well here is my problem:

I decided to update my bios so i went to the Intel Site ( and got the bios update for my motherboard. After this i double clicked the .exe and it ran as it should, when it restarted it gave me a series of beeps (normal) then it went to a screen that read "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device" so i tried restarting and going into the bios and i went to boot priority, all it showed was my floppy drive and my CD-RW drive, no Hard drive detected. so I decided to try reinstalling windows and the windows setup detected my Hard drive and i went to install and it went to the screen that read press enter to install windows, press F8 to agree, etc, etc, the setup continued and it formated the drive, then it went to "setup is loading files" after that finished it said "setup will now reboot and then continue installation" it would reboot and then go back to the screen that read "press enter to install windows" now im at a point where i have no idea what to do so.... if any of you have any suggestions it would be greatly aprecciated.

I did a BIOS update on an ASUS M2V.
I have been having problems with Windows 7. According to the (release note) there were some compatibility fixes added for Vista. (yep, for Vista, but I think they're also neccessarry for Windows 7)

The main problems I had was related to sound. It seems to be a common problem with this MB and Win7. See here as it's discussed on Microsoft's official forums, they're suggesting a BIOS update

I didn't have a floppy drive so I had to find a workaround. I found a bootable CD (link here) that included the latest BIOS version. It's a DOS based CD which starts the update when I type "UPDATE" and press enter. It did the trick. According to the screen messages, it successfully reflashed the BIOS and it asked me to reboot.

Computer was working but Windows started to have problems. I had problems with logging off and switching it off. It would just hang on the shutdown screen.
I could log in but it won't open any of my programs (like Chrome, Word etc...). Not even regedit.
I entered safe mode which was working fine.
I tried reinstalling Windows. From DVD, it hangs on "Extracting Windows files". It did not move from 0% for 20 minutes. I couldn't hear the DVD spinning noise and the LED on the drive wasn't blinking as expected.

From USB, it just stops. I started it and moved to 1% then I left it. When I came back to the computer I could only see the setup background. No cursor on the screen and the keyboard wasn't respond... Read more

I’ve tried to use the software that comes with that board so called “ magic bios” bios live update utility. But unfortunately it says theres no later update of the bios that you are currently using. So I tried to visit their site but I just found only one file corresponding to my motherboard model. A file named V6DUA03.bin which has a date of 10-06-03. and its description is “update cpu name string”. I’ve downloaded this file but I don’t know how to use it. Its already in my downloads folder but I cant open it coz its has a .bin extension. I need your help thanks in advance….

A:Bios update problem

G'day step22, normally there is a ritual procedure where you have a bootable floppy like a W98 type dos. You unzip the new bios as needed and copy it to the floppy, keeping careful note of the file name.
You also need the actual utility to suit your current BIOS brand and also copy it to the floppy..
When you boot to that special floppy, working from the DOS prompt using "dir" you will see the files.
This procedure is usually explained in detail and with diagrams by the board manufacturer, the BIOS update must be absolutely correct for the board you have and you must use the proper utility to install it. Ensure you save the old bios, this is usually part of the procedure with the install utility.
The utility is normally available from the same place where you get the BIOS update.
This is a "one chance to get it right" procedure so ensure you follow the destructions to the letter. Some boards may have alternate install methods but this is the fundamental method.
Cheers, qldit.

Originally my computer started to repeatedly restart its self when turned on. I brought it to best buy and they could get no output at all from the computer. they said it was probably a motherboard problem. I purchased a new motherboard, new ram, and a new CPU. i added those to my other items. right now i have the following

MOBO- ECS Elite Group P4M900T-M (intel pentium dual core compliant)
CPU- Intel pentium dual core
Ram- Kingston 2, 1 gig sticks of 667 ddr2 ram
Video- Nvidia Ge Force
Sound- Soundblaster Audigy
HD- Maxtor 200 Gig

The computer no longer just restarts repeatedly when turned on. It runs it POST, and the BIOS settings are adjustable and responsive. however when the computer hits the windows loading screen, the screen shows up, the bar at the bottom does not show any movement, it flashes a quick blue screen to fast to read, and then restarts.

this is what i have tried-

Memtest both sticks test fine.
HD test, tested fine.
built on table. no change
rebuilt and checked all connections again, no change
put in old cpu, (pentium 4) and it started doing the exact same thing it originally did. fast restarts. So it wasnt a motherboard problem i had it was the CPU. the old motherboard does not support the new pentium dual core chip i have.
I put the new chip back in and this secondary problem was still there, restarts only on windows load screen.
I am trying to update the BIOS because it is the only thing left i can think of.

Hello all. I'm having a serious problem and hope someone can help.
Have a one week old system. Have been tweaking it all week, a bit at a time, in hopes of getting it to run more smoothly.

HP a6750f, came loaded with WinVista Home Premium 64-bit. 8GB RAM, etc., it is fast but "hangs" a lot. I had just about gotten through the Tutorials - Vista Forums with only minimal success as of yesterday. Last issue.... to check the BIOS. I checked the BIOS, although forgot to write down what is WAS. The HP website listed a new BIOS for this unit as of 26-Jan-09 so I downloaded it. It is/was MS7548.

Before doing anything else I made a new restore point, not that it helps me now.
The BIOS update was an .exe file which had to be clicked on from within Windows, which I did. The system rebooted and came up with a screen that noted "scanning drives". Figured it was a good time to walk away. Twelve hours later, same screen. Tried rebooting a variety of ways with no success. I have a boot repair disk (via and it doesn't help because the system doesn't get that far.

Here's what it does do:
Reboots; the blue HP screen comes up with four options F10, F9, F11, and esc. Have tried them all. All momentarily display a screen that lists the L2, L3 cache sizes, and the drives. (All appear to be there). There is one error message printed but no repair options.

A:BIOS update problem

Hello heiyah,

I too experienced the same problem with an HP, probably with the exact same update.

Model #: M9500f
Motherboard: MS-7548
OS: Vista 64-bit

updates located at: Select software and drivers*

Actual bios update that clobbered my bios :

I tried various ways to reset the bios back to default settings, but to no avail.

I chatted online with HP, and they let me know that I should never do bios updates unless a machine is having major problems (basically saying I caused my own problem), and we (HP and me) were not able to resolve my problem over the phone. I routinely do many, many bios updates with Dells on campus, and have never had a problem. When doing a software upgrade, it is common practice to do firmware and bios updates to hardware. I won't do that in the future with HP drivers, based on my online chat.

In the end, since the machine is under warranty, and HP is going to pick the machine up and send it to a service center to repair it. Contact HP and let them know about the problem and that others have had this same issue.

I have attached screen prints of my issue.

Good Luck!

Sigh. I used Intel Express BIOS to update my Intel D850EMVRL M/B. During the process, the computer hung before rebooting. Per their instructions, I hit the reset switch (although I guess I should have powered off completely).

Now, when the computer boots, it brings up the M/B indentifier (with the serial of the new BIOS) along with the "press F2 for SETUP, F12 for network boot" stuff at the bottom. However, that's as far as I get. I can't enter setup or do anything else.

Am I hosed here? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

A:BIOS update problem...

Sounds like you messed up. I don't recommend using those BIOS updater things. Many people have had problems with them and as result ruined the BIOS. You can try flashing using the floppy method, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Solution: Reflashed to 10.08 with the drive in. Still not booting.

Reflashed again, using a different key- BOOTED!

Thanks for the assist. Marked Solved.

Solution: Ensure usb key formatted to Fat32, format it again, don't flash bios unless you actually need to, and most of all- with this particular board and multiple hard drives, do not update bios to 10.10.

I've had this issue with the "Reboot and Select Proper..." since I did a bios update (cause I'm an idiot.) to 10.10 on my Z77A-GD65 board. Until the update, I had no issues booting.

Previous bios unknown (cause I'm an idiot).

Primary Drive (Sata 3 Intel Port) - 128GB Kingston SSD (Windows 8)
Secondary Drive (Sata 3 Intel Port) - 120 GB Kingston SSD (OSX 10.8.3)
Tertiary Drives: Seagate 1TB (D drive, Problem drive) Port 3 - Sata 2
Seagate 1TB (OSX storage) - Sata 2
Seagate 500GB (OSX backup) - Sata 2

I've checked (and then replaced) connectors, power lines (modular P/S). The system _will_ boot with the secondary (D drive) disconnected and I have hotswap enabled, so I've found a workaround in that I ground myself off on the case and when the Win Logo shows up, I reconnect the drive. The issue with that (other than my fat-a$$ climbing under a desk each time to disconnect and reconnect a drive) is that my case is open and this is an "always on" (I travel and stream to my iPad) PC, so sometimes BitDefender, Windows Update or "Other" force a reboot where my drive is connecte... A:Reboot and Select.. After bios update

I have a 1 TB Seagate drive that if connected to my system, fouls up the whole thing. But there is nothing wrong with it, it simply interferes with the rest of my Seagate Drives.

I tried everything, replacing power and Data cables, even bought an expensive Data line, to noah vail.

Finally I gave up and just stuck it into an External Box.

There might be a power issue with your PSU, maybe it is one too many HDs for it to handle and that HD is breaking the camel's back.

Dont give up, just try different Data cables and buy a good Power Connector.

When all drives are connected, which drives does it detect, also, with the two OSX drives disabled, will it detect and boot?

Try moving the drives around on the SATA bus as well, I've had to do all kinds of finicky things to get my system to find and use all of my drives.

I did a factory reset and updated to my previous BIOS but the issue was not resolved. Now I am having another problem apart from the battery issue. Usually Microsoft downloads updates when the Battery Saver option is turned off. My battery saver option is turned off but then also when I open the Update page it says "Battery Saver option is turned on" and will update after the mode is turned off. The same message is displayed even when I plug in the power adapter. Hence Microsoft is unable to download any updates. Pls help.

On August 27, 2015, I got a notice from Dell Update that there was a new version of the BIOS for my computer (a Dell Inspiron 15 laptop). My computer was out of warranty at that time, so I appreciated the notice, thinking Dell was good to update the BIOS. However, the update has proven to be a disaster.
Whenever the computer is idle for more than a half hour, it goes to blue screen and says it has encountered a problem and needs to restart. The error is called "kernel data inpage (sic) error." I first tried Dell Support, but they absolutely refused to do anything to fix it, because it is out of warranty. They told me to go back to a point before the update. No matter how much I argued that they had caused the problem, they still refused to fix it and would not help me regress the computer to an earlier time (I don't know how to do it)
I I have found out since that the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver is missing and, according to Microsoft, is causing the problem I am having. I need Dell's help to replace that (so I choose the right version). But, now, Dell Detect won't run on my computer, and I can't find anything on the web site to tell me which one is right. Also, I am shut out of Dell chat and there is a multihour waited for phone support.
Before this happened I was ready to be a Dell customer for life. Now I feel like I'm being told to go away.
Has anyone else had an issue with this BIOS update?

My motherboard is ASUS P4BP-MX 2.0...

I tried to install Windows XP professional (SP2) on my PC..formatting and copying of files done successfully..
After restarting, my PC hanged in Windows XP logo screen itself..
I have previously used the same cd and installed XP successfully in my friend machine no problem with CD..
so to troubleshoot i installed Ubuntu worked successfully..
am able to boot and work in Ubuntu 8.10...

I thought of upgrading my BIOS 1003 to version 1005 and downloaded 1005.BIN for XP..

1) Does upgrading my BIOS fix this XP installation issue?

While trying to upgrade i went through my board manual and pressed Alt+F2 key after POST screen..
I got the AwardBIOS Flash Utility for ASUS v1.00 screen..
The screen had File Name to Program field but my cursor is being shown at some other place near the Message grid..
Also its not accepting any input from keyboard..
I tried Fail Safe defaults, Optimised defaults..but no success to enter file name in AwardBIOS..

2) Does resetting my RTC CLEAR jumper alone by unplugging power cord and removing CMOS battery fix this problem?

3) If i somehow get access to AwardBIOS utility in feature with some fix, is that possible to Update my BIOS with FAT32 formatted USB pen drive having my 1005.BIN in AwardBIOS utility?

What Windows OS did you install?
If you have installed Win XP then the Common Module should be installed before trying to update the BIOS.
If Vista is installed, the VAP (value added package) should run.

Hello, I would appreciate your time if you can help.
I am trying to update the bios on my Gigabyte MA790FXT-UD5P board, using Q Flash and a floppy DD.
I have downloaded the two different versions of the Bios [F6 and F7], now from both Asia and Us download points.
I have F5 on another floppy disk, and used it previously [to recognise latest cpu]
I can see the files on the disk, in Win7, and can open and extract the files from the Asia download, but not the US download.
However, apart from that, when I try to update the bios, the bios cannot find any files for F6 or F7 [They are loaded on separate disks].....
But it can find the files when I try the older [about 6 months] F5 disk, and have successfully updated the bios to F5
So the question is, why can't the bios Q Flash facility see the F6 and F7 files? Is it faulty floppy disks, if so why can Win7 see it. Is it a faulty floppy disk player? It is only 6 months old but in any case Q Flash sees the disk player. Is it faulty files?
Any ideas? Your time and thoughts would be appreciated

Normally it has to be the other way round. In the beginning I couldn't imagine that it has something to do with the new BIOS but today I installed the old Version 1.07 again and now it works just like before the update and the battery packs are discharged in the right order.I heard also Lenovo engineers and programmers read in this forum and so I decided to write about this problem here. Maybe it's possible to fix this bug with a new BIOS-Update.

Last week I updated my machine to the latest BIOS from Dell, file name 7437A10.exe. The machine rebooted fine after the installation and worked fine for a day or two. But now my machine will not boot pass the DELL logo (the progress bar at the bottom keeps spinning). The hard disk light lights up and blinks, indicating that the system is accessing the hard disk.
I tried a few things to get the machine to boot, with no success. What I tried was:

press Start and wait for the machine to boot for about 5 minutes, Iooking at the logo
press and hold the start button for about 30seconds
detach the battery, press the start button for about 30seconds to release any remaining current, attach the battery and tried to boot
reset the bios settings to default

None of these options worked. Can you help me figure out what the problem is?
I'm running Windows 10.

Thank you in advance.

A:Inspiron 7437 WILL NOT REBOOT after BIOS Update

Why did you update the bios? Laptops rarely need bios updates and if you do update the bios it should be done before upgrading the operating system. Dell has all the drivers you needed for win 10 here--
Try booting to Safe Mode or to the repair disk you made. You might be able to run the diagnostics to test the hardware and do a custom test of the hard drive. Bios update failures usually do not "work for a few days." It might be a coincidence and something else is causing the problem. Use the links on the Support page to get more info.

We need to update the BIOS during our automated Windows 7 OS deployment. It is required that the BIOS install runs with no interaction and that it doesn't reboot automatically so that our deployment process can control all reboots.  I know the BIOS upgrade requires a reboot, but we will add the reboot as a task in our deployment scripts so we can control it.  Unexpected reboots will cause the deployment to fail. Here is a link to the update installation files:  Our older laptops used hpqflash -s -a, but it appears it has changed. What is the command line syntax to run this BIOS update unattended with no reboot?

I am trying to update the system bios to F.09 Rev A.  The HP support site instructs me to copy the new BIOS to a flash drive, turn off the machine, place the flash drive in a USB slot and turn it back on.  I assume it is supposed to boot from the flash drive, but it does not; it boots normally from the C: drive.  How do I force it to use the flash drive to update the BIOS?  Thanks.

To start i'd like to just say how much i hate this board and how i'll never buy another Gigabyte again.

First I had problems with getting my memory stable with my mobo (solved by following a guide by gskill rep). then i keep having problems with random crashes in games and couldn't find a solution so assumed that i needed a bios update. The @bios utlity keeps updating to FB even tho there is verison FC. So i download FC from the gigabyte website and use the ultity to update bios from file.

then my computers beeps like its the end of the world a couple of times as its not able to even post. Eventually it gets something resembling stablity and posts. then windows will not load and if it does it immedately crashes giving me all kinds of BSoD's (reoccuring and also some new ones).

I assumed this update would solve the memory compatiabilty issues so i figured setting everything back to auto would resolve this. NOPE! beeps to high heaven a couple of times before it can post. i try the settings that the gskills rep provided and still nothing. my computer can't even boot up anymore and i think this whole ordeal has ****ed up windows beyond repair so i'll probably have to reformate and install for the 7th time in the 2 weeks i've had this machine and OS.

this is sh*t. i hope there is someone out there who recognizes this issue. PLEASE GOD SEND ME SOME HELP!!

I had some problems with a Zalman (I think it still has problems) it was reporting 1800 rpm instead of 2000 +..

Anyways , I assumed that the Motherboard may well be reporting the wrong rpm's so I decided to check Bios updates . I did have the latest Bios Update and assumed that the previous Bios was reporting my CPU cooler as correct..

So I ran the AsusUpdate utility to see what it can do..There is a Bios Downgradable option, I didnt have the previos version backed up so I re downloaded the previos version and then ran the Downgrade option. I browsed to the Bios file and updated to the previos version..

All seemed to go well, I get no Bios Errors on boot and all settings seem fine..

But I have 2 issuses On Board Sound dont work (Even tho I have a Audigy Card) and when I run dxdiag instead of Giving me the Mainboard Name it says "To be filled by O.E.M"

So I read on the internet that you can recover the original Bios from the Support CD...

So I restart PC with CD rom and press Alt/F2 to run Flash Bios Utility, when prompted I browse to the Original A8V bios file and recover the Bios... Again all goes well but still no Onboard Sound..

Any one have any ideas...or is my bios screwed...

Thx for any input..

A:Asus A8V Deluxe Bios update problem...

So why do you want to have onboard sound when you have an Audigy card? Are you sure the onboard sound is not disabled in the BIOS or automatically disabled when you install a seperate PCI card? Did you install the drivers in Windows?

As for the "To be filled by O.E.M", its not uncommon for some fields to be left blank and it won't cause any problems. Repeatly updating your BIOS can be much more hazardess if something goes wrong and the board will not longer boot at all.

I also don't understand the whole thing about downgrading that you are talking about. Whenever you need to do a BIOS update you only ever need to update to the latest version as all previous fixes are included in the latest one. You can back up the current BIOS version if you wish to have for a backup.

And the fan RPM's; fan speeds are rarely constant and can be mis reported slightly - again not an issue thats worth the risk of updating the BIOS.

As you know now, updating the bios is not something to do casually and especially while out of the country or anywhere with unreliable power sources since the slightest interruption or fluctuation of power can fry your motherboard. Sorry. I guess you'll have to wait to return to US to fix this under warranty or maybe someone else has a better idea.

I have two problems with updating the BIOS (the 1st is more important then the 2nd one):

1. While trying to install BIOS Update 6.70-WIN (29/11/13) it says that:
"The version of ROM file is the same as that of BIOS"
and it stops. In the DOS window it shows one phrase:
"NOT Windows 8 Platform, using Windows 7 update...".
I use Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit system but recently there has been major automatic update done to it.
I got lost. Is there anything I can do to update BIOS?

2. Earlier it says that Flash process will be terminated and I need to "contact OEM BIOS engineer to add the NV storage location by HISII interface". But if I want to risk I can continue etc.

Previously I took the risk and updating went well.
But is there possibility to contact OEM BIOS engieneer?

>While trying to install BIOS Update 6.70-WIN (29/11/13) it says that:

What is the present BIOS version which is available on your notebook?
In case the BIOS is already up to date, the BIOS flash procedure will be interrupted.

>"NOT Windows 8 Platform, using Windows 7 update...".
I?m not quite sure about the meaning of this information but it looks like the BIOS update was released for Windows 8 system and probably its required to upgrade the system from Windows 7 to Windows 8 in order to be able to flash the BIOS

By the way: why you want to update the BIOS? Just because new version is available?
Please note that BIOS update does not improve the notebook performance but fixes some issues. In case your notebook runs properly, the BIOS update is not very important

Hello, I have a ThinkPad X1 Carbon 3rd generation. Two days ago, I have updated the BIOS to the latest version 1.12. The installation went well and I successfully booted into Windows 10 with no issues. However, the fan was not working anymore. I did not notice this until the laptop was extremely hot (which is very unusual for this laptop under low/medium load). In particular, I was just running a "disk cleanup" using the native Windows tool and after 5 minutes I decided to kill the process (this operation usually takes 1-2 minutes). My feeling was that due to the temperature the cpu was in throttling. At that moment, I noticed that the fan was not active. After a shutdown, the fan was again working. However, I noticed that the fan kicks in much more often than it was used to. For this reason, I did two things:- I have downgraded the BIOS to 1.11: BIOS 1.12 updated the CPU microcode, I am not sure that the microcode was downgraded as well when I downgraded the BIOS. - I have run the "Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool": I was afraid that the high temperatures may have damaged the cpu. The tool reported that the maximum temperature of the cpu during the benchmark was always safely within the expected threshold and all the tests were passed. Now, I still can see that the fan kicks in much more often than usual. I have noticed, using sensors under Ubuntu 15.10, that every time there is a very short burst/peak of... Read more

This error message appears if you want to update a BIOS which is not compatible with your notebook model.
Toshiba European driver page provides the 2.10Win BIOS for this notebook model.
So you used definitely wrong BIOS.

Common modules controls the FN buttons.
So the issue should be solved installing Common Modules v 6.06.00, Utilities 4.30.15

Firstly be sure that AHCI is enabled in BIOS!!!
Furthermore the Intel Storage Manager controls the AHCI so you should slipstream the AHCI driver to the Win XP CD as described here:

Hi, so here's part 2 about my bios update problem.

Below you can find my initial post, detailing the problem. It's under . Read that first!

Additional steps I took since then: sent the laptop to a repair shop which came recommended by a well-respected bios site. They tried everything, and the laptop's fans do spin (meaning also the cpu fans), and the led does go on.. so that's an improvement, i guess. but since he doesn't have the original bios image for the laptop that's it.. I did send him the N61Ja.BIN located in C:\ which should be the original bios backup, but that didn't work.. none of the bios files from the asus website worked either..

Anyone have any suggestions? Or can provide me with the original bios image (207) for the Asus N61Ja-JX046X?

I wanted to update the bios, with an official bios update, from version 207 to 211. I didn't use winflash, I used easyflash in the bios. Everything seemed to be going okay; it deleted the old files, wrote the new ones, verified the new ones. Then it said: shutdown in/after 2 seconds and it shut down. Then nothing happened anymore. Power button completely unresponsive. The battery light was still on, and I'm not sure if I should've just waited... I didn't though, I thought I had to remove the battery, take the power off completely to be able to start it up again.

So I'm wondering: what are my options here? My warranty expired and I don't really have the money to send it in and pay hundreds of bucks on ... Read more

A:Asus n61Ja bios update problem, part 2. Please help!

Oh, one more thing:

the guy at the repair shop tried all the bios files on the asus website.. and the N61Ja.BIN in C:\.. but none worked..

He told me this:

biosfile is 2048kB in size.
normally you put the biosfile in the chip from address 0
chip is twice the size. this is sometimes used for a/the backup bios and sometimes just isn't used at all (also they can then release bigger bios versions that will still fit, if they want)
sometimes you put the bios file in from the 2nd or 3rd block; tried all of that
also tried loading it from address 10000h which has worked on a laptop before but that didn't work either
laptop fans and led working says nothing; theyre being powered but without the right bios thats all they will be

He tested the bios chip and the cmos battery and both were fine, btw

I figured an interesting title would draw more responces.

Anyways, here's the issue.

I recently updated my bios software to the latest edition via MSI's live driver update. Everything seemed to work fine except at reboot there was a CMOS error. No problem, I just reset all the bios options using default optimised, and then manualy toggling what I need and not. But that isn't the problem. The problem is that now.. upon powering down the system, the keyboard lights (numlock, F-lock) and the mouse's LED's and movement detection lights remain lit. It required me to shut off the power supply and wait a minute before it goes off. This problem started immediatly after the bios update. I've disabled all power suspension and wake features. What is causing this and how can it be rectified?

I'll give you a timeline of the events. The machine in question is a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 12.5" 20CD-0032USIntel Core i5 4200U 1.60GHz Processor4GB Ram128GB SSDWindows 8.1 64 Bit preloaded (recently upgraded to Windows 10) So the saga begun just a short two days ago. I had some spare time at home and decided to download and install my free upgrade to Windows 10. I backed up all of my important documents etc to OneDrive as I intended on performing a clean install. Said clean install went flawlessly with Windows 10 installing the first time with no issues or errors. Since I had performed a clean install, all my previous apps, including the stock Lenovo apps, had been deleted. I had anticipated this and only really desired to reinstall the app that automatically adjusts the screen orientation when folding the cover back. So in an effort to find this app and any Windows 10 related updates that may be available I went to and used the handy Lenovo Bridge app to automatically detect my hardware and suggest relevant updates. While combing through the suggested software I noticed a BIOS update that noted added support for Windows 10. How great, I thought, that Lenovo would have a BIOS update read... Read more

A:Thinkpad Yoga BIOS Update Problem after installing...

I'd try to re-update the BIOS using the same version, but from a flash drive instead of from within Windows. Maybe something went wrong with it (updater doesn't properly support Windows 10?).There's a few ways to put the bootable BIOS update ISO onto a flash drive, but there's a guide for one here:

Dear Lenovo Staff,I'm experiencing multiple issues running Ubuntu on Lenovo Y700-17ISK laptop: At the end, I installed Windows 10 alongside with Ubuntu 16.04 only because of BIOS updating.During the last month or two, it was impossible to find any BIOS file on 'Y700-17ISK Laptop - Lenovo Support' web page.Today I finally found a new BIOS update file: Released 7/18/2016, Version CDCN35WW. But when - hoping to solve problems running Ubuntu on Lenovo Y700 - I attempted to install this latest BIOS update file through Windows 10, I got the following error message: "the version of ROM file is the same as that of BIOS". And then I found this forum post (05-18-2016):"Please be advised that Lenovo is in the process of removing the BIOS CDCN35WW for ideapad Y700-15ISK, Y700 Touch-15ISK, and Y700-17ISK laptops in response to customer reports that the software does not execute as expected. Once the issue has been corrected, CDCN35WW or a newer version of the BIOS will be made available". Once the issue has been corrected, CDCN35WW version of the BIOS will be made available again????????So I downgraded my BIOS CDCN35WW to BIOS CDCN30WW, and after that I installed again BIOS CDCN35WW - everything went well, but now my BIOS shows it is CDCN30WW version??? I would be very grateful for any help, thanks in advance.

My Bios is CDCN34WW so I did upgrade to version CDCN35WW (latest from 18.07.2016) installation went very good,no errors or problems diuring instalation proces but after rebot my computer shows that I'am still on CDCN34WW version. What's i should do now...?

Hi Everyone!
This is my first post here, but I promise I'll do my best to make sense.
I've been using a PC since 1999, but I've always stayed away from the technical end of things & had the "experts" deal with problems because my mind just isn't wired-up to be a DIY lady. Since money is quite scarce due to my disability, I have to be the one to do what's needed this time, & with your guidance, resolve the current problem. In my defense, I'm no dummy & I'm a quick learner... I can do just about long as I have very detailed instructions from someone who knows what/how to do what needs to be done, & that's where all the more knowledgeable people on this Forum come in. I'll do my best to explain things, but if I leave something out, just ask & I'll do my best to fill in the blanks. Thanks for taking the time to read my post...I'm very grateful for your help & especially for your patience!
Now to my problem....

I'm running Windows 8.1, 64 bit on a Lenovo G585 Idea Pad. About a month ago, I noticed a sharp decline in my PC's ability to handle streaming media & performance in general. (I rely heavily on streaming media ability, as I keep records on Bald Eagle nests for research & educational purposes), & I always have at least 1 nest cam on 24/7, (usually 2-4), & I used to be able to have Firefox or Pale Moon browser open with the live nest-cam feed st... A:Streaming media to update drivers or BIOS correctly

You should always get the most up to date drivers for your laptop from the manufacturers support site Runnin driver updaters often give you drivers that are actually out of date. As far as BIOS updates, you should only Update the BIOS if the update corrects an issue you are having with your computer or to add compatibility for new components.

As far as trusting any customer service or tech support from Comcast goes, they have been being raked over the coals lately for their lousy service including blaming customer equipment for problems that are Comcast service and equipment problems. On the sad side you not have a choice as they may be the only broadband service available in in your area.

Hi, I have lenovo G580 20157 laptop with windows 8 pro, i found a bios update 62cn97ww on support site but when i restarted my laptop and run the 62cn97ww update it just hangs and does not respond. kept ideal for long time to restart but no response. Any help on this?

A:Lenovo G580 20157 bios 62cn97ww update problem

hi adarsh_savant,
I think you may have concern in this thread,
Here the suggested solution from neokenchi that helped.
1. Boot into the BIOS by repeatedly tapping F2 on startup
2. In the BIOS, navigate to the Boot Tab and set UEFI to Disabled or Legacy then press F10 to save and exit. When
the computer reboots, check if you still get the errors and/or if you're able to boot into Windows.
3. If same problem, leave the changes that you made on Step 2 and attempt to re-install Windows via a Windows 8 recovery drive or OneKey Recovery button (note that this will wipe the computer to factory settings)
Hope this helps,

I updated the Bios for my Trigem IM845GL motherboard. During the system booted up sequence it displayed the new Bios software screen then just before booting up the operating system (windows xp) it said:

'A disk read error occurred, please press ctrl+alt+del to restart'.

I think I might have installed the wrong Bios drivers??
I have checked the bios to ensure that the hard-disk is the main bootup drive and it is.
I have reset the bios by moving the jumper blocks leaving them in the 2-3 position for 30 seconds replacing them to 1-2 position. But it did not clear the bios.
Since the computer came with a specialised company software on two disks by setting up the bootup to be the cd-rom drive and putting in the disk it only has the option of deleting the data on the hard-disk and re-installing all the standard software. I don?t want to loose the data so this isn't a option.
Can anyone please help as this is really doing my head in!!!!

Resolution: Dell Inspiron 5459/5559/5759 BIOS Update - Will not boot after update
"No boot drive found", "PXE... Media test failure"
If you updated from 1.0.x to 1.1.5 (or other) and find yourself scratching your head in a panic that your system won't boot up, reboot and press and hold the F2 key when you see the Dell logo (shortly after restart). When the bios settings page opens, click restore settings to default, save, and then exit. Your system should boot to windows now :-)
If you don't care about default Keyboard LED brightness or Fn Lock key default status, disregard the following:
After your system restarts into windows, restart and repeat to enter bios. There are some minor settings that change -- They are minor and don't affect performance.  Under System Configuration, Keyboard brightness changes from dim to bright. Under Post Boot, Fn lock key changes to unlocked.
Have a nice day. Hopefully if you're reading this you already figured that out on your own.

A:Dell Inspiron 5459/5559/5759 BIOS Update Error - WILL NOT REBOOT

I am facing the exact issue for my 5559 laptop after updating bios from Dell update site.
It had 1.1.5 if i remember correctly, and update was for 1.1.6 using Inspiron_5459_1.1.6.exe
Only problem, reset to default settings does not solve it for me. Its still the same PXE E61 Media test failure and NO Bot device found error.
Is there a way to boot from usb and flash it to original version ?

what do i do?
Thanks for your help in advanced

A:Asrock 775I65G Bios Update Problem Error: Rom File Size Incorrect

It is not a good idea to update a BIOS using a Windows updater. These work *most* of the time, but fail far more than the DOS versions do.

Do you have a floppy disk drive in that PC?

If you still want to use the Windows updater anyway, delete that ROM file and download it again. You could have had a bad download.

So, earlier today, everything was fine. My computer was working normally nothing was acting up. While unplugging my laptop from the wall I dropped it, but nothing appeared to be wrong. A little while later I restarted my computer and it worked fine for about a minute and then everything froze in windows explorer, nothing would work, folders wont open task manager never appears start menu wont come up, nothing.
I booted into safe mode and everything works fine through there, so I looked around online and one suggestion was to update my BIOS so I tried to update from Dells Inspiron 1420 A08 to the newer A10 BIOS version, trying that in safe mode failed so I tried to boot normally and quickly do whatever it told me, when I tried it wouldnt restart (and still refuses too, I have to shut it down manually outside of safe mode) it said it couldnt update the BIOS version because it couldnt locate the image, but I downloaded it directly from Dells own website.
So then I tried to do a system restore, and I got the message:

The disk Vista (c:) has errors
Windows detected file system corruption on Vista (c:)
You must check the disk for errors before it can be restored.

So I clicked scan and fix, and nothing happens. (this is back in safe mode by the way) so I opened a command promp and typed sfc /scannow
and it scanned and found some errors but were unable to fix them. Details are located in the CBS.log
So I opened the log and I found the following:

Hi, the first rule if you ever drop a laptop (and it appears OK) is to take the battery out, boot from the mains if all is OK turn off add battery and reboot. Now you may have damaged the MB and or the RAM seating or HDD cable connection as well as the monitor connect cable.. etc ...etc. You can see where this is heading to the shop would be my advice.

I have an odd situation I have been tracking for some time and I think I have it isolated to when it will occur and when it does not. I am posting
it just to see if anyone else has this issue and knows of a fix. My guess is most people just think their PC is stuck and power off and back on to reboot.
The issue was that when my Windows 7 pro laptop applied a Defender update  the laptop took roughly 45 minutes to reboot.
What I found was the issue happens in these situations:

The Defender patch was 400KB or largerA Windows Restart is used to apply the patchIf I applied the patch via a Windows update manually, then issues a Windows RestartIf I allow the patch to apply during a Windows Shutdown, the next power on boot is delayed
It does not happen in this situation:

I apply the patch via Windows Update, then do a shutdown to power off the unit, then power the laptop back
on, there is no issue.
In all instances the patch is applied successfully based on what the Windows update history shows. The patch itself applies very quickly in all situations
To me it seems like a Restart after a Defender update is causing Defender to run a scan before allowing the laptop to boot. The laptop will just
stay on the Starting Windows screen with the 4 colored window for 45 minutes then boot normally. Typically running a Defender scan on the laptop takes about 45 minutes which is why I think the Windows Update\Restart sequence is triggering a scan. Normally

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... I am running a home-constructed PC (started out life as a Dell, but i had to replace the motherboard and - well, one thing led to another).

It's been working fine for a couple of years with the odd hiccup but i transferred to Zone Alarm from McAfee about four months ago, and upgraded to IE7 - security and fire walls seem to be a big part of the problems i've had in the past so i thought i'd mention it.

last week i had the "application error with winlogon.exe" error on log on and I couldn't boot at all. I did a repair install from the XP disk which *Mostly* worked, but now I have no mouse. I am having to tab through the browswer fields to even post this message which is incredibly frustrating!

Odd symptoms:
* IE has rolled back to version 6 (I guess that might be a function of the repair install)
* In the device manager there is NO "mouse and other pointing devices" entry, let alone any mouse recorded under it
* In the control panel, the mouse hardware properties are completely blank (no way of updating driver or getting more inform, ation - selecting the buttons does nothing)

Most likely a bad mouse, or a bent mouse pin, or you are using one of those wireless mouse units, or a cheap usb mouse.

Mouse detection problems are exceedingly rare except for the above... never heard of a mouse being affected by a virus.

Uninstall Zone Alarm if you are using Internet Explorer 7.0 because you will always have problems otherwise.

Anyway, He said that it didn't need a bios update, even the Samsung website said this computer needed a bios update. I posted this on hardware, firmware concerns, and they told me to post here, I was going to go to a site ,that had a download that checked drivers, I was told to stay away from this.

Hey guys,

I have a WinNT4 (SP6) workgroup server that I have been planning an expansion project for quite some time now. The division that uses the server is not a high budget division so the decision to expand into the realm of IDE vs. SCSI was not hard to conquer. IDE is the only way they could afford to expand.

So, I got them an IDE ATA 133 RAID Controller Card and a couple 40gig drives. Tested it on a Win98 machine so I knew how to configure and install (generally).

Then I go to install the setup into the server. The direction said to plug the card in, then load the drivers. This caused the machine to go into a rebooting loop. So I took the card out, and loaded the drivers first then stuck the card back in. Now the server will boot up fine with the card in it, but when I hook a drive to the card I am caught back in the reboot loop.

The machien goes to the point where the takes over and I get the following error:

STOP issued, error: C0000143

Starting error log. Log may be viewed through the event viewer.

Starting physical memory dump.

When the memory dump counter reaches 100, the system reboots. This cycle will continue as long as there is an IDE drive attached to the card. I have printed and examined diagnostic printouts from the server. DISPLAY_DRIVER.DLL is not even listed as a driver in the system.

Please let me know if you can help. I am short on time to trouble shoot this one.

A:WIN NT4 (SP6) reboot problem

Here are some articles I took off of the MSKB. These articles describe the problem, but not the correct circumstances. Just hoping to job some peoples memories.;EN-US;165748;EN-US;186674;EN-US;162577;EN-US;170397

I am not sure that any of the fixes described in these articles will work, since the circumstances are different.

Please Help!!!!
My computer keeps crashing. I have received an error message from Mircosoft titled "Error Caused By Device Driver"
After an explanation, the actual error is hyperlinked with the folowing: "0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER"

Can anyone give me a simple fix for this problem? (if there is such thing)
These crashed never happen with me only with my son when he is making cd's or something. Then it just continues to get so far when it reboots and then shuts down again.

Hope someone can help me.
Thank You in advance for any advice and support in this matter.
Sincerely, Evie

You have been hijacked...

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go here to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Download and install Spybot S&D. Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the Fix Selected Problems button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix and install it over the current Spybot installation.

If the problem remains download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then cli... Read more

A:Problem when i try to reboot my pc

Hi there,

Is your computer a desktop or a laptop computer? What is the brand/model of your computer? Please provide the specs of your computer when you can. By knowing the computer specs, we would definitely be able to troubleshoot your computer issue more efficiently.

Try and see if your computer is able to at least boot into "safe mode". When was the last time your computer was able to boot into the Windows OS successfully?

My laptop was working, but suddenly stopped working. I turned off the laptop and turned it on, but it has started giving message

?Reboot and Select proper Boot device Or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key?

I have checked Boot Device Priority, it was showing 1st Boot Device to Network, which I have changed to Hard Drive, but still same message. When I switch on, it makes continue weird noise.

I have allot of work and software on this laptop and do not want to loose it using recovery dvd.

I copied ISO file, when I ran that file on the computer, I received following message:

?A Problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer
If this is the first time you?ve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps;
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.
Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

A:sp2 reboot problem

looks like your only option is to do a "REPAIR INSTALL" from your vista DVD not recovery but REPAIR, and if that does not work a complete REINSTALL. and don't upgrade to SP2 again.

I just put in a LiteOn sata DVD burner. I'm running an XP Pro with 1 GB mem, and a 250GB HDD, but I'm having a boot problem. It gets up to the XP Logo page and then heboots or it sends me to the options page for normal reboot, or Safe Mode (which doesn't work).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A friend of mine did a reformat on his C drive & installed a fresh copy of Win XP (sp2)... After he did windows update & restarted his computer, the PC kept rebooting after the "Windows XP" screen. It can't even boot into safe mode...
Please help...

A:Reboot Problem(can't go into Win XP)

You could try booting up the Windows CD and running a "repair" install to see if that helps.

But, personally I would download the diagnostic/utility software from the manufacturer of hard drive's website and zero the drive (low level format) and start again. This will wipe absolutely everything off the drive.

When it gets to installing the drivers do the mainboard/chipset drivers first, then video, and gradually build up the drivers with a restart between each one to see if this is a driver clash. I would recommend using known good drivers (i.e. previously ran ok) first, just to get things up and running and then update later.
