Dell upgrade package failed to install dell wifi driver

Q: Dell upgrade package failed to install dell wifi driver

Hello,
Since I reinstalled Window8 in my inspiron 3138, the laptop cannot install 'dell upgrade package' and cannot setup my wifi driver.
I cannot install following drivers and the laptop cannot detect wifi at all.
Dell Wirelss 1704 Wifi driver (Network_driver_342TP_WN32_7.35.333.0_A01)
Dell Airplane mod switch driver (Network_driver_PX8MM_WN64_1.0.0_A00)
Do you know how to solve this problem?

Best,
Lucy

Hello.

I was asked to re install windows 8 on a laptop. It's a Dell Inspiron 15 ( 3521 ).

It installed all the drivers except the wifi + Bluetooth driver.

The laptop cannot connect to wifi straight after installing windows 8.

When I run the exe, it gets to the end of the installation it asks for the user to switch on the Bluetooth or wireless switch ( It was one if them, I forgot which one ).

I look all over the laptop and cannot find anything that resembles a switch. I looked at the FN keys and there is no shortcut for it or anything.

I looked to see if it's under settings in windows 8 but the wifi screen says " no devices ".

The laptop has a cheap build.

Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I have recently upgraded to windows 10 and everything seems file except one problem I am facing which is the wifi card connectivity issues. My connection to router drops very frequently, curently the generic driver which windows think is appropriate is installed. I wanted to undate that with Dell's driver which I can't find on driver download section. 64 bit WiFi driver is NOT there. 32 Bit driver is but that won't install on my machine.
Can someone from Dell help? either to give me the link for correct driver download or confirm driver is not available in which case I would need to downgrade to windwos 8 as the system is unusable in its current state.

A:Dell Inspiron 15R 7520 SE - Windows 10 64 Bit WiFi Driver not available on Dell Site

Hello,
On the Drivers & Download pages for the Inspiron 15R 7520 there are only 64-bit options for Windows, whether 8.0,8.1, or 10.   So those drivers are the ones for the 64-bit version of Windows 10, as long as you filter the operating system option to Windows 10 64-bit.
The file name may state "Win32" but if you click on the "View Details" link, and then check "Supported Operating Systems" near the bottom of the page you'll find that the driver supports both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
You don't mention which wireless card you have in that system so I can't link directly to the specific driver.  Which card do you have and what error are you getting when trying to install the drvier?
I would also recommend updating the firmware on your router.  Many routers need an update to be able to handle Windows 10 specific drivers and cards reliably.   What router brand and model are you connecting to?  And do you have problems with all routers or just this one.
Lastly, here is a link to the Dell Networking & Wireless Support Center.  You will find a few support articles in there that may be of help to you.
Let me know which card you have and when the last time you updated your router and, if you can't get the connection to work, I'll see what else I can suggest to help you.

Hi
I was trying to install this software on one of our servers, I had to run the installation through command prompt as the server version is not officially supported (Windows 2008 R2 Standard installed on Dell Power edge T110)
This method worked on other machines with the same specification, but when I do it on this particular one I get an error during installation stating that HAPI driver could not be installed.
Research online didn't show many results, I tried installing on another Drive without success. Another option suggested disabling Anti Virus software before installation but we are running the same software on other servers on that network and Omsa installed without any problems.
Anybody is aware of some other methods to solve this issue?

I am using an Inspiron 7520 (mid 2010) laptop and have recently upgraded to Windows 10. My WiFi doesn't work properly, it will work for sometime after a restart and then it starts saying that the connection is limited while there are no issues on any other devices connected to the same WiFi. I uninstalled all network drivers from Device Manager and tried installing "Dell Wireless 1704 WiFi Driver". After installation new drivers do appear in the Network section of Device Manager but the installer says "The update installer operation is unsuccessful." and the problem persists. I am pasting the installation log below. Last week I purchased a new desktop from Dell.com. The desktop comes with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit pre-installed and also came with a free copy of Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Windows 10 came with the desktop in the form of a DVD that I have picutred here: http://i.imgur.com/Z3N84IS.jpg

Does anyone have experience using the Windows 10 Pro 64-bit upgrade disc that comes with this desktop?

Here is the product page for the desktop: http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/i...-1225267-824c6ebe280311e69835e23186a66fe00INT

I popped the included disc in, rebooted the computer, and then hit F12 to boot from the disc. The disc ran and I attempted to select the option to install Windows 10 and keep my files that are on the drive. It attempted to install but then stopped because there was a "partition missing". So instead, I then tried another option which was to wipe the entire drive clean and install Windows 10. That didn't work either because drive is locked.

I was downloading drivers on my dell opitplex 780. I decided to upgrade my bios from A08 to A15, since it was the only bios update. When i accepted the update to restart and begin the flash, the screen would not turn on and the desktop stayed powered on for an hour before i unplugged it. After that every time i turned it on the the same thing would happen:the screen would not turn on and the desktop stayed powered when the power was plugged. After researching, i removed the motherboard battery for a few minutes then replaced it. I did not see a jumper. When i restarted i the COMS had reset and i was able to get to "starting windows" but i barely complete before a blue screen appear and it restarts. Does any one know how i can fix this issue? I was updated my bios to see if it would take more updated memory.....i guess not. Oh and with either original or new memory it does the same thing. Sorry for the long explanation.

Hello,
Recently I bought the Dell Inspiron 7559 (gaming one).
It has the option to add a SSD drive. I bought a m.2 SSD 256gb drive from Plextor.
See link for the version. The BIOS and Windows both don't recognize the SSD.
I have put it in and out several times. Updated BIOS / Resetted BIOS. It just won't recognize it.
Do I have to tweak any settings in BIOS for the SSD slot to "activate"?
I thought this was a plug and play thing. How can I get this to work?
Note: I also have my HDD still plugged cuz it has everything on it (windows etc).
I want to convert windows to the SSD if it CONNECTS EVER.
SSD:
Help would be appreciate SOOO MUCH.

Thanks in regards.

A:Dell Inspiron 7559 m 2 SSD upgrade failed / not recognized

That's a PCIe SSD -- this system supports mSATA (SATA 6G), not PCIe.  You'll need to exchange the drive for an M.2 SATA/SATA6G version.

My computer is a dell inspiron 14z.

So my wifi was working ok before I upgraded to Windows 8 but afterwards seemed to not even realize it had wifi capabilities. I looked at the Wireless network adapter thing in the device manager and it had a little error icon next to it.

Here's some pictures of the error and device manager that might help maybe.

I've tried updating the driver but it just says that its all good and up to date.

Dell wanted me to pay 120$ for a single customer service session.

I'd be so happy if you guys could fix this.

you guys are awesome thanks

120$? to fix a driver issue? That is extortion in my eyes lol.

Anyway I had a quick look on the dell support site and found there are 3 different models for Dell Inspiron 14z Could you tell me which one it is? Also try navigating to the driver downloads page and downloading the wireless network drivers for your model and installing them. Pic Attached

Had a look at the drivers on each of the models and they only seem to support 64bit Versions of Windows 7 & 8, Do you know if you have 32bit or 64bit edition of windows 8? If you have 32bit then the drivers for the hardware probably wont work.

If you don't you can check it by following this easy guide (I would walk you through it but I havent used windows 8 yet) http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/windows-8-64-bit-32-bit.htm

I've done a fresh install from the factory supplied disc a couple of times and keep getting an error for
1-ethernet controller
2-network controller
3-SM bus controller
4-universal serial bus (usb) controller

I have an additional set of (2) discs labeled dell drivers, but those don't seem to be needed, everytime I run them, I get a message that the files are already on the hard drive and if I run them it just overwrites and still shows an error.

I have a dell inspiron n7110 laptop running win7 home premium

Hi all, The hard drive failed and I had to re-install Windows 8.1. Naturally the network drivers were not in the ISO. I went to the Dell website to download the driver and there were 10 drivers listed under network adapters, but none of them worked. I searched under the numbe4rs and found a few drivers, but none of them worked. This machine does not have a LAN port so I tried installing a USB wireless network adapter but I couldn't get that driver to open the device. Has anyone got ideas about this?

You guys have never failed me in the past, time to try a new question...

I have a DELL 1710 Printer on a small, Windows 7 home Ultimate machine that sits in a closet (it runs a public file kiosk program for a group of radio stations. Nothing work intensive.) I had the printer shared across our work network, and I had it on my desk machine, (Win 7 64 bit.)
This morning for some reason I could not print to the DELL 1710. Couldn't find it. So I removed the device, and attempted to re-add it to my Win 7 machine. In the process of installing the driver, I get a windows error:

Operation failed with error 0x000003e3

Here's what I know: The Win 7 Home Ultimate machine CAN be seen, and this printer can be added to other machines on the network w/ no issues. However on my Win 7 machine on my desk I keep getting this error. Now I can't add or use the printer. Any thoughts?

So basically - as the subject says -
Having a brand new Dell XPS 15 9550
with most recent Dell Wireless 1830 802.11ac drivers
cmd command "netsh wlan show drivers"
shows that current driver does not support hosted network,
meaning, that i am unable, for example, to share my ethernet internet connection Over wifi to other devices - i am unable to make my laptop a hotspot.
Which is ridiculous in 2016 and for a laptop of this level and is basically a prerequisite to be Windows 10 approved.
So my question is DELL, what the ***? When do we get normal drivers?
Anybody has the same issue - knows the workaround? Thanks.
I could not have expected that 2000$ laptop would not be able to do that. this is soul crushing.

Six months ago, I installed Windows 10 from an update.  My computer had been using the 8.1 operating system.  For some reason, everything went haywire a couple of weeks ago, and I went to recovery and reset the computer to default factory settings.  It took quite a while for this to complete.

However, after I did this, I had several updates that had to be completed, and I did this.  Then the Windows 10 update logo appeared on the bottom of my screen, and I tried to update to Windows 10 from 8.1.

I am unable to do this now.  I get an error message that "We couldn't update the system reserved partitions."

When I contacted Windows Support, they said that sometimes after updating to Windows 10 and then refreshing, the next update wouldn't work well.

What can I do to get Windows 10 back on my computer.  I am so used to it, and I really like it.  I am old and cannot do really difficult tasks, but I can do some.

Thanks. for your help.

Error message (when attempting to play Chess or any other games that came with windows); “Hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video card driver, which could slow performance. Make sure you have the latest video card drivers installed.”
It has been over 3 months since I have been looking for a solution. About a year ago, I moved from XP to Window 7 ultimate and everything worked nicely. Then I run into a problem which I had to reinstall windows again. I did and everything worked fine except that I can’t play any games. Device manager shows ‘video controller’ driver is missing. So I tried to update the driver, the system couldn’t find it. I went to the dell site and there isn’t anything for my system for window 7. The only driver I can find was for window vista. I tried that didn’t seem to be compatible. So far I have tried pretty much everything that has been suggested on sites I came across except updating the driver through windows update which isn’t feasible given the type of connection I have.
Mind you, I don’t have high speed. I use CDMA and the speed I get is nothing more than dial up. You have no idea how long it takes to create an account on here and post this. I tried to google patiently but no luck. I noticed that there are also other people who are having the same problem but as I said earlier I have attempted whatever I can.

A:Failed to find driver for ‘Video Controller’, Dell Optiplex 280 model -Win 7 ultimate

The Dell OptiPlex GX280 desktop is a very old model and only has driver support for Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
It does not have driver support for Windows Vista or Windows 7.

It has 4 slots and supports a maximum of 4 GB of RAM.
If you're going to run Windows Vista or Windows 7 in it, you need to add at least another 1 GB to the 1 GB that's currently in it.
Here is the recommended 2 GB(1 GB x2) kit for it.

The only way that you're likely going to resolve the display issue is to install a video card that supports Windows 7.

I found this list on the Dell site that tells you whether they have tested a particular model for its ability to be upgraded to Windows 10.   The Dell Vostro 3550 is not on the list of about 20 Vostro models, some with lower model numbers ,  some higher.   Will they ever test it??
If you try to upgrade,  windows 10 copies files and then in the 2nd of the three major sections of the upgrade (where you have that big circle in the middle of the screen)  it just goes to a blank screen and then all disk activity ceases and it becomes well hung.   Of course now, the machine thinks its os is win 10 and you cannot go back to a win 7 recover point .  So you just lose all your data and apps and restore the factory image and then install 208 windows 7 updates and it takes like 8 hours in all.
Sounds like a similar problem that people had with Vostros going from win 7 to win 8.   Why not fix it.

A:Windows 10 Upgrade - why isnt Dell Vostro 3550 on the list from Dell ?

Well, after spending the better part of whole day trying to figure out why somebody else's Dell Vostro 3550 was not displaying anything after an even longer period of downloading the Windows 10 upgrade (from Windows 7 in this case) it turns out the fix required was to upgrade the BIOS to A11 (end of 2012).

Hopefully this might save someone a wasted day in their lives. Before this I spent some hours before figuring out that the machine was in fact booting - only the display was black. So then it was a matter of figuring out key strokes to use (blind) to shut down and also enable the menu for safe mode. Safe mode worked, and so then more hours trying to work around the issue before finally stumbling onto some stuff online where the BIOS upgrade was mentioned - apparently also an issue with Windows 8?

Recent versions of the DW1560 driver have made my system completely unstable due to recurring BSODs which note one of three errors: bcmwl63a.sys, fault in page file, memory management.
I've run checkdisk and Dell's PC doctor app and neither shows an error, I've also done a clean reinstall of Windows 10. Only going back to the 2014 W8.1 driver has worked. Unfortunately, both Dell update and Windows update will continue to attempt to install the new unstable drivers.
This appears to be a widespread issue (see google results for "dell bcmwl63a.sys windows 10". Posting here in the hope of getting an update on this issue, or any info on a better workaround.

I just upgraded an older Dell Dimension 4600 desktop from Windows XP to W7 (32 bit). Since completing the upgrade, there's a message in the lower right hand corner stating "No Audio Output Device". When I click on Devices, both the Multimedia Output Controller has a "!" as well as the "PCI Input Device".

When I click on the MMOC, it states there is no driver and it doesn't even give me the option to search for one. I checked Dell's site and it doesn't appear they're offering device drivers for this computer for an OS other than XP.

Anyone have any thoughts?

The Dell memory key requires a driver to be installed before it will work on Windows 98. I have downloaded the driver and have thought I installed it, but Add New Harkware keeps telling me it can't locate the driver. I am wondering if anyone had an idea as to what I am doing wrong?

I downloaded the driver for Windows 98 from www.memorykeydriver.com and put it in file C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MEMORYKEY.

Then I go to Add New Hardware and click on Dell USb Memory key. I get a message that the driver is already installed but has a problem. (I guess this "already installed" message is the result of a prior attempt to use the Add Hardware Wizard which ended up with the Wizard telling me it couldn't find locate the driver.)

The Wizard then gives me the Properties screen for the memory key. I click on Reinstall and get a message that no driver files are required or have been loaded for the device.

I click on Update and choose Search for a better driver. I click on Specify a location and put in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MEMORYKEY as the location.

Then I got the same message I keep getting, Windows is unable to locate a driver for this device.

Can anyone tell me what the problem might be? grandpaw

If they dont have a win 7 driver an earlier one can be used if it is installed in compatibility mode.

Please assistance with this unfortunate case. I have a BRAND NEW dell inspiron 13, 7000 series. Had not been in use for more than 3 days...
I have problems connecting with the WIFI (although all other devices in my apartment connect smoothly to the router). WIFI button does not turn, switch refuses to move to ON. Red X on the wifi network at the right hand bottom corner...
I have read some articles suggesting to go the device manager, network adapter and update driver, but when I expand network adapter I only have 2 Bluetooth devices listed. Nothing about WIFI.... please HELP!!
Second issue - tried to reboot several times as the laptop did connect to the internet for 2 minutes on reboot. All times, reboot fails and I get the following message: Driver Power State Failure.
Please, I hope you can help me with this awful experience with Dell laptop.

When I powered up my new dell xps 15 9550 this morning, (bought less than 1 week ago) I had a message from Dell in the bottom right hand corner of the screen saying there was a firmware update notification. I clicked on this and proceeded to update the firmware.
since this, I have been suffering from the screen going blank and the only way to get it back on again is to switch off the laptop completely!
I have restored the bios to factory settings (F2) and have also tried disabling the nvdia video card but still have the same problem of the intermittent screen going black.
At the same time, if I am listening to music, the music also switches off, so it doesn't appear to be just a video card problem.
It all appears to point to this firmware update?!
any help would be much appreciated.

thanks

The short version of my question is exactly what the topic says-- Can I install a Dell-provided OEM version of Vista on a non-Dell computer?

But, here's the wordier version giving context, if anyone's interested.

About 10 months ago, I guess, I got a Dell Vostro that came with Windows Vista Home Basic. However, I had no interest in Vista (because I already had a Windows machine) and the very first thing I did was install Ubuntu on it. I still have the Vista reinstall disk, though, which, to my memory, hasn't been used.

Now I'm planning on getting a barebones system and upgrading what I see fit. For the time being, I'm going to use the Windows 7 RC, but I'd like to get the uber-great upgrade deal that they're having to pre-order either the Business or Home Premium version upgrade. So, to do that, I'd need an XP installation or a Vista installation. Is there any reason, legal or software-related, that I wouldn't be able to install Vista using that disk that came with the Vostro?

I heard somewhere that sometimes if you try, it'll say something like "This is not a Dell computer, you evil, evil person" and refuse to install, so I wanted to make sure before I pre-ordered the upgrade. I don't want to get the upgrade and have nothing to upgrade, of course.

Hi, hopefully not hard questions:
Question 1:
I found the installation guide (however it's not listed at Download&Drivers site):
http://www.dell.com/support/Article/hu/hu/hubsdt1/SLN285343/EN#IDT_92HDxxx_HD_Audio
It's point 5. lists: Dell Control Point Security Manager - System Devices

I went to the Download&Drivers site:
http://www.dell.com/support/home/en/en/hubsdt1/product-support/servicetag/2673yp1/drivers/advanced?dcp=dndtag
Here, there are 2 files for me:
1. Dell ControlPoint Security Manager Application: It's not for M6500. (View details) True? (Why is it listed at M6500 drivers site?)
2. Dell ControlPoint Security Device Driver Pack: It's name a little different than at point 5.
Which ones do I need?

Question 2:
Point 10. lists: Conexant Modem Daughter card (MDC) Drivers (little lower name is different: Conexant D330,HDA,MDC,v.92 Modem, little lower: Broadcom USH driver)

There are 4 files at Download&Drivers site, however not D330 but D400:
1. Conexant D400 USB 56K Modem Driver: It's not for M6500. (View details) True?
2. Conexant D400 External USB 56K Modem Application:  It's not for M6500. (View details) True?
3. Conexant D400 External USB 56K Modem Diagnostics Utility: Is it driver?
4. Conexant D400 External USB 56K Modem Utility: It's not for M6500. (View details) True?
Which ones do I need?

Thanks in advance,
Peter

A:need help for ethernet driver and install on dell 4550

where did you get your driver from?
I would start by going to the manufacturer of your ethernet cards website.
find the driver for your model, and download it.
If it is a .zip unpack it. If it is a self installer, remove any previous drivers for the ethernet card, and then install the fresh one.

If it is a .zip and you ahve unpacked it,
go to your device manager, and remove ethernet.
Restart your computer and it should auto detect the card, now try searching for the driver in your C:\ drive, if not than specify exactly where you unpacked it to.

hope this helps.

Hello, I have a Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 laptop that came with Windows 8 Core edition pre-installed. This laptop has never worked properly for some reason. It won't shutdown the normal way (it'll just stay on the shutdown screen forever) and it never comes back from sleep without a BSOD along with other troubles that haven't been solved by updating drivers, etc.

I decided I want to do a clean Windows 8.1 re-install and upgrade on my laptop to get rid of these problems, but it's been ages since I last did this (back in Win2K times, I used to dual boot Slackware Linux) and I've bee reading about all this UEFI, Secure Boot, etc and quite frankly it's making me quite nervous. I was even planning on taking this chance to dual boot some linux distro, but it looks sooo difficult. Things are much more complicated these days for the tinkerer!

Hi guys: Am stumped by a Web Cam install for a friend's Dell 4500 Win XP system. It is a GE minicam pro model 98067. Down loaded the GE driver (98067) from vendor. When installing got error msg: "component transfer error device driver = twain ini & src; process can not access file being used by another process."

I believe there was an old web cam on this system. Not sure if it got removed properly--do not know the make and model as it was years ago. Tried to use the devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices to locate and remove unused device drivers but did not see any related to this issue.

I installed this identical driver on my Dell 8200 Win XP w/ no error and when the camera was plugged in it worked perfectly. So some conflict on this Dell 4500 PC with some process running. Any ideas to fix or where to look to remove the conflict or stop the running process? Can not even figure out what the running process is! thnx

Hey Tech Guy... Please help!

I rehabed a Dell Vostro 260 computer from work by re-installing Windows 7 Pro over the work stuff with the Dell OS disk. Next, I loaded all the necessary drivers from the Dell web site (network, sound, etc). Everything was working perfectly. Next, after all the dust settled, I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro and tried re-installing the Dell drivers again. Well, everything works great, except there is no sound. The sound driver (Conexant HD Audio) keeps failing when I run the Dell driver software. I tried deleting the existing sound drivers in Device Manager, deleting the driver folder (dell/drivers) after uninstalling the program through control panel. Please help! What can I do?

I reinstalled xp/sp3 on their dell dimension 4600c, then downloaded the necessary drivers from online. the network driver won't install. i can follow the instructions all the way until it says run setup.exe, but when i click on it the dialogue box opens as if it's about to do something and then poof disappears and nothing happens. needless to say i can't get online. what do i do?

A:Dell dell inspiron - No USB driver installed

To make sure your Going from SATA to USB, if so, then are you using the USB with + or power port.  Depending on the motherboard.  (had the same issue in the E Series Dells)    Also, SATA does not provide power on its own, it needs to be plugged in, or you need to plug the two cables into two usb ports
the cable for it could be One connector, and two on the other side.  The main cable is the data+power, the other is the extra Power.  USB gives Max 3.3V, SATA usually need 5 or 12V to work.
If all else fails pull your CD drive and connect to that if you can.

Hello everyone! Sadly my first post here is written under pretty bad circumstances. I am one of the many people whose systems (in my case a Precision 15 5510) were "automatically" upgraded to Windows 10 without warning, as Microsoft changed the status of Windows 10 from an 'optional update' to that of a 'reccommended update'. After the installation completed, I was presented with the EULA and selected the 'decline' option and Windows notified me that if I continue with this option it will 'attempt to re-install Windows 7' so I did that. After supposedly re-installing Windows 7, my system restarted and booted with the Windows 7 logo but before the login screen appeared I got a blue screen and the laptop restarted. This subsequently happened every time I attempted to start my laptop, except for when I tried to boot in safe mode (which it did successfully). I restarted the laptop, pressed F8 and selected the Repair option and the Dell Backup and Recovery option after that. I selected the drive I want to backup (C:) from the menu and was notified to insert a Flash Drive or a SD card that has more than 43GB free. I inserted a 64 GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive (SanDisk Extreme, which is meant to be really fast) and clicked 'Next'. Dell Backup and Recovery has since been stuck on the next screen which says "Backing up your data and Dell Backup and Recovery settings" with the progress bar just flashing by rather than actually showin... Look in the device manager -- if you see two video display adapters listed, you do have the AMD GPU.  If you see only one (Intel), you have only an Intel GPU.
This system was sold with Intel-only (base model) and Intel/AMD hybrid (higher end models) GPU systems.

I just completed a clean WinXP re-install on my Dell Dimension 4700. I need to get on the internet but several devices are marked in yellow in Device Manager. (I am writing this on my phone as it is my only internet)

The Dell site says I must install Utilities & Drivers in a particular order starting with the "Dell Desktop System Software" (DDSS). I've unpacked it from the Dell ResourceCD, saved it to my HD and an IntelliShield process says it was installed.

After a reboot the ResourceCD still indicates the DDSS is still NOT on my machine. According to Dell it has to go on first before the Ethernet driver & others that Device manager marks as missing.

I have no internet and am still at WinXP SP2.

May I please get some help installing the missing drivers from the Dell ResourceCD. Otherwise I cannot update XP & other progs. :-(

Thank you!

I am running Windows 8.1 on a Dell 2350 Inspiron All in One.  The touchscreen disappeared about a year ago (system purchased in June 2014 via TSC) and we were able to bring it back only to have it disappear again within a week or two.  Then suddenly earlier this year, it returned on its own. Now it is gone again. I found it hidden, followed troubleshooting and updating etc. but nothing worked. Then followed the instructions on Microsoft site to uninstall via device manager.  We also ran a system check via Dell Assistant and had the chipset driver install fail prior to the uninstall of the touchscreen. We ran the system check again afterwards, and had two drivers to install. One was the Rapid Storage Technology driver, which installed okay but the Intel 8 Series chipset driver failed and failed again.  It looks like it has also failed before.
Before installing generic drivers from Intel, would rather check here first to see if there is something that needs to be repaired or otherwise updated on my system via Dell.  While the computer is quite usable with a mouse, if it is supposed to be a Touchscreen, then it should work as one.  Thanks for any advice!

We would suggest you to go on to the Dell website and you will be able to search either by system model or service tag which will get you all the drivers and applications that you would require for your system.
Also you can download the Dell system detect from the dell website which would also help you do the same .

Just bought an Inspiron 5759 from Dell Canada.
Touchpad is very squirrelly - move around and it randomly perceives a click hence starts moving or invoking stuff.  Try to click left or right button (bottom left or right of touchpad) and the cursor moves so I can click on wrong thing easily.  Looked for Touchpad settings under Control Panel Mouse.  Nothing there specific to touchpad - just generic mouse settings.  Looked in Device Manager - Mouse and Pointing Devices - see HIID compliant mouse and PS2 compatible mouse.   Driver for either is from Microsoft dated 2006.
Ok - load newest driver from dell.com.  Claims it installs ok - wrong.  The Dev Mgr shows same Microsoft drivers.  Manually force driver to Synaptics - Dell TouchPad.  Looks like it succeeds.  Now, Dev Mgr shows two mouse devices: Dell Touchpad and PS2 Compatible mouse.  Try control panel - Mouse.  Now I see a Dell Touchpad tab but the only field - Change Dell Touchpad settings - does nothing.
Spent 6 hours trying to get help from Dell Support - worst experience with any support organisation (other than HP who managed to toast a notebook via remote control while trying to install a printer driver - never did work.)  Absolutely no improvement in situation.  Four times put on hold and line drops.  Considering strongly returning the notebook.

A:Inspiron and XPS laptops running Windows 10 cannot install Dell/Synaptics Touchpad driver

With Win 10, touchpad drivers are found in the Win 10 Settings, selected in the Start Menu. In addition, many newer laptops are using a Precision touchpad, a Microsoft inspired pad. The driver is incorporated in Windows itself, and a regular driver will not work. This is why you don't see anything in the "old" Windows Control Panel app or in the Device Manager.

Back in May, I took the hand-me-down Dell Dimension 2300 I'd given my sister, replaced the mobo, cpu, heatsink, ram, and installed Win 7 Pro x64. All necessary drivers installed fine. The floppy drive, partitioned hard drive, DVD drive, and CD-R/RW drive installed & appeared fine, and even Magic ISO.

Now, we need to install a new version of Norton, so pop the CD in and-- The DVD, CDRW, and Magic Iso drivers are all "corrupted or missing." I can hear them spinning & reading the discs. They don't show up in Explorer, or Disk Management. In Device Manager, they are correctly identified, but have yellow exclamation points next to them. I tried installing the drivers again downloaded from the Dell website, but to no avail.

Hello,
I have a new Dell XPS9530 which has a software application that was installed by default called "True Color" which is normally in the task bar near the clock.
I ordered the official Dell OEM Windows 8.1 disk (red in color) and the XPS 9530 Driver CD (Gray in Color) and did a fresh install on my computer.  Neither disk contains the previously installed True Color application and I also don't see it on the downloads section on the Dell website.
Technical support was not familiar with this application so I didn't get very far - was just told to reinstall everything which I've already done.
Where is the True Color Application and why isn't it on the recovery disks since it was installed by default from the factory?

I have done a number of Win7 clean installs on desktops. So far I have found no need for installing the vendor specific chipset drivers. All devices have, so far, been recognized, and for the most part a basic driver has been installed with Win7. Secondary vendor specific drivers are sometimes needed for video cards, printers and audio devices, etc.

1) Is the baseline Win7 installation including the appropriate chipset driver, via an MS download, by default?

2) If all devices are working correctly, is there any need to locate and install the vendor specific chipset driver when available?

Since many of the systems I have upgraded using a clean install have been from XP 32 bit to Win7 64-bit on Dell systems, sometimes a chipset driver package is not even available (at least from Dell) that is Windows 7 64-bit specific.

I remember having to hunt down vendor specific MOBO chipset drivers to pacify XP but the problem seems to have minimized with Windows 7.

What has been your experience?

A:Win7 clean install - is Chipset driver package needed?

Hi,

* Just have a look in device manager. If you have any exclamation or question mark for unknown devices, you can just update the driver via online.

* Sometimes, you may get audio problems while using the microphone, However, you will be able to hear windows sounds, music and other audios. To make your microphone work, you will have to update the drivers.

* Otherwise, you can just go ahead and use drivers that were installed by Windows 7.

Hope this helps

I have spent 3 hours on the phone with tech support my laptop has been out of commission since mid march. The laptop was serviced on-site once and at Dell's once both with the same result. THe original problem persists.
The problem: The battery won't charge. The tip of the power brick is lit leading me to believe that the brick is ok. Both times it got it back there was some juice on the battery that got replaced. but once that juice ran out, the battery does not charge again.
Of course now, the Laptop is out of warranty and I got routed to the out of warranty dept that promptly dismissed my call.
I've had Dells for the better part of 20 years and have had fine service, this experience has definitively tested my loyalty to the company.

My service tag is CPBKVZ1 the past service request number was 928616597.
WHat can I do?
