Original Dell AC adapter no longer charges (a new, Dell) battery

Q: Original Dell AC adapter no longer charges (a new, Dell) battery

A Dell customer service advisor recently suggested I buy a new battery to fix a problem with my battery not being recognised at system startup nor charging when the adapter is plugged in.
Despite my AC adapter being the original adapter that shipped with my computer, the new battery still fails to charge. I receive a message informing me that the AC adapter type cannot be recognised (quickset). Furthermore, in what can only be described as an outrageous step, this message informs me that Dell will throttle my machine ("your computer will run more slowly") and then battery will not charge.
Clearly there is an error in the adapter hardware (most likely related to the well known one wire technique for battery verification) meaning it cannot be recognised by the computer. I was therefore incorrectly informed to buy a new battery that neither solves the problem nor is of any use as it cannot be charged. Is this how Dell treats their customers?
I propose two solutions which Dell could offer me:
1. Send me a new, working 150W adapter compatible with my XPS 17 as a gesture of goodwill following the incorrect sale of a new battery at great expense which failed to solve the problem.
2. Provide a way to circumvent the faulty charger verification process. This is crucial for two reasons. Firstly the adapter is the original adapter that came with my computer so to verify its authenticity is not necessary. Secondly, Dell has zero right (non, whatsoever) to force consumers to use certain products through an invasive procedure that slows down a computer for which I have already paid. If Dell will not provide a work around to overcome the 20% throttling of my computer, then I will demand a 20% refund on the original value of my computer, as I am no longer receiving the power that I paid for.

I look forward to hearing from Dell regarding this matter, and from other users in the community who might have suggestions as to how to proceed to overcome this problem or engage Dell in finding a solution for customers.

My Dell laptop will charge and operate for several hours off a new 6000 MAh battery but the icon in the tray inidcates that it is always on line power. Although both the CD and floppy drive work when installed in a bay the system not indicate that they are present. I have updated the bios from Dell but that does not help. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hello,
I have a Dell XPS 17 L702X service tag J0Y4DT1.  I just bought a new 9-cell battery direct from Dell.  I installed it today, and it charged to only 90%.  Now it says "Plugged in, not charging."
I have tried unplugging the adapter from the machine and plugging it back in, and restarting the machine, with no success.
The last BIOS update for J0Y4DT1 was released in December 2013, so I know I am running the latest BIOS.
Any ideas?  Thanks.

I have seen many "plugged in not charging" issues, several suggested bios updates, which links are now broken as they bring up a generic support page. Anyway, 100% repeatable. Absolutely no charger will charge the battery except the original charger. This includes the HP travel charger i bought which explicitly clamed to charge my HP envy dv6-7214. So I wont be getting another HP laptop, ever. Well done there guys. Having said that, today I bought a new hp all-in-one 21.5 inch. So Id like to be a repeate hp customer, but I cant deal with unchargable batteries.  I really dont see how this can be anything abut programmed in. So is there a bios update whichwill stop being a b-head about charging the battery? I have had the laptop since it was new. The problem was there from day 1, when i tried other brandsof chargers. I capitulated and bough an hp travel charger only to find it wont work either. So here is the deal HP.  People travel with laptops, and need the smallest charger by volume and weight, and also need to charge their phones, so the little USB plug that is ubiquitous on travel chargers. And they need their batteries to be charged to use it on a plane.  So, please tell me how to fix this. And please take the hint and stop trying to do underhanded stuff to sell your own brand of accessories. Why? A:how to check ,battery is original or not in dell n55520 i5 laptop

It's a Dell part number, but there is no way to know if it's original to the system.  If it is, bear in mind that system is about four years old, so the battery is likely at or near the end of its expected lifespan.  In fact if it is original, and the battery still works - that's quite a good thing, since they generally last 2-3 years.

I did run the dell diagnostics for which battery passed the result.
I did try some  tricks of uninstalling / disabling battery drivers and updating them after a restart.

Removing the battery .. drained out any charge on the motherboard by pressing it for 20 secs or more.
But the issue is same it is still not charging after 42% .. Surprised!??
Kindly suggest what is wrong where with the software.

Over the last 2 days I have been having a problem as indicated in the title of this post. The fault has rectified itself 3 times, but again today, it is back to "battery plugged in, not charging." As I am running the laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium; 32 bit) on the adapter without problems, I assume that the adapter itself may not be faulty.
I also have a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop running Windows 7.  Can I safely use that adapter with the Vista laptop, without causing damage to the Vista ?  If it is safe to do so, and the battery on the Vista starts charging, then it would indicate that the Vista adapter/charger has some kind of fault.
Hoping someone can give me some guidance. Thanks.

A:Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. Battery plugged in not charging. Can I use adapter from a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop ?

If the adapter has the same plug and the same or higher power rating, you can swap them.
Check to see whether the 1545 recognizes the AC adapter or whether it shows unknown (F2 at powerup).  If it shows unknown with two different adapters, you have a bad power jack or a bad mainboard.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1100 which, for the last 4 days, will not start using the power adapter. It will start and works fine with a charged battery. However, my battery is now out of charge.

If I take the battery out and try and start the machine, all three lights go on at the front, but then immediately everything goes off.

I think with machine switched off and power supply plugged in, it is charging the battery, but the ac power adapter makes a wierd clicking/ticking noise, so I'm not keen to leave it on/charging too long.

My Dell Inspiron 1100's warranty ran out in 2004... Dell were very pleased to tell me this and tried to sell me an adapter for 85.00. However, I'm not sure that replacing the adapter will fix it. The green led is on and, as above, it appears to be charging the battery AND all lights light up for a split second at least, so some power is getting through.

I have read other posts with similar issues, but can't find exactly the same issue. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

A:Dell Inspiron 1100 starts with battery, but not with adapter

It is possible that the motherboard has developed problems, but you must try another AC adapter first. An AC Adapter is much cheaper than a motherboard

I have a Dell E1405 Inspiron laptop with a 100% battery charge. The issue is that the computer will not function without the adapter plugged in, rendering the battery as dead-weight. In the boot menu, the battery is showing as "Idle: 100% charged". However, Battery health is telling me "This battery can no longer provide sufficient power to your system and needs to be replaced'. So, I'm wondering, is my battery bad or is my PC not synchronized with the battery?

A:Dell Inspiron E1405 will not function on Battery Power, only AC Adapter

The other day my battery decided to go 50/50 on me. Half of the time it works, albeit charges insanely slowly, or it acts as if it's at a 0% charge and puts my laptop into sleep mode. To top this off, my wall charger doesn't seem to register with the laptop as plugged in anymore. It has a small light ring to show when it is plugged up or not, and it seems that the laptop won't charge even when it shows it is clearly connected to the adapter. Now, another symptom it goes through is the light on the adapter turning on when plugged into the laptop but then off when removed. It's somewhat old at this point but it has never done this before. Any ideas on what to do? I'm running Windows 7. (I apologize for the lack of formatting. Having to type this up on my phone while riding around isn't helping me any.)

I recently purchased the Dell USB-C to VGA/HDMI/USB/Ethernet Adapter (Dell 470-ABQN) to use as a dock with my XPS 15 9550. Unfortunately while using this adapter the fans run at a very high speed, approximately 80%, and are therefore loud and disturbing during meetings and desk work. I have it connected to only an HDMI monitor and a USB mouse receiver. The fans also run constantly when using the built-in USB and HDMI ports, but at a tolerable level. I will have to return this item without a fix, so could someone at Dell please advise if there is a solution or if this is a known issue that will be reviewed? I have updated both the Thunderbolt firmware and software and applied all Windows Updates. Thanks

Can someone help me with this problem? So I just received my brand new Dell Inspiron 15 3000 and the battery is not charging. It says it's "Plugged In, Charging" but it never goes up and stays at 0%. At first I thought I just need to plug it in for several hours but it's been 5 hours now and still the battery stays at 0%. I tried running the BIOS Diagnostics just to see if there are problems and there's none. The battery status says everything is running normally and the Battery State says it's Idle. I tried draining the flea power several times, removing and reattaching the battery, but to no avail. I'm getting really frustrated and I'm really close to throwing this laptop back to Dell.
I read somewhere that I have to update the BIOS but it won't update unless the battery is charged at least 10%. Someone also suggested that Windows 8.1 is causing the problem. I haven't even started using this laptop and it's already giving me a *** ton of problems. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks guys! :)

Hello.
I've been using a Dell inspiron 1545 from about 3 years now and exactly after 2 years of my buy, the battery failed and it started showing me to replace the battery and always notified me about contacting dell for a new battery.
I didn't take this of much concern so i just ignored the message and kept on using my battery with my adapter plugged in. After 4-5 months of such usage, My battery completely failed and doesn't even offer me even a minute of backup, when i remove the power socket. Then i realized the importance of a new battery and then bought a new battery from Dell.
Its the same battery with the same specs and also the same family type. After i removed my defected battery, I replaced my new bought Dell battery and realized that my battery is working fine. its charging well but at some time, it says "Plugged in, But not charging" Which is rare for any new battery, which is bought brand new.

This is how it looks now after i remove the AC adapter plug and when i depend on the battery backup. it is providing me a backup, but I see a yellow exclamatory mark beside it. Which I think should not be present. it also says "Low battery" when there's already 99% of battery left!
I've also followed some online steps
1) updated by BIOS to the latest  2) Followed some other steps like uninstalling the battery ACI in the device manager and etc...
i would love to get this problem solved. I'm using a PA-12 family adapt... Read more

A:Bought a new dell battery and still my laptop battery doesn't charge!

Hi Utkarsh. I Actually FIXED this problem months back. and I exactly want to help you on this so that you can fix it yourself too..
the problem which is creating your battery to show an exclamatory mark is your power settings.
so follow these steps to get rid of that sign and a perfectly working battery.
1) Click on your battery icon (left click) you should see an option called " More power options" at the bottom of the popup.
click "More power options"
2) Now you will be taken to your control panel where you can see all of your power plans and under each plan, you will see an option called "Change plan settings"
3) Click on "Change plan settings" for your active power plan. Now you will get redirected to another control panel window, where you can see two kind of power options to get adjusted. that is, when you battery is plugged and when your battery is unplugged.
4) Don't touch those options, just click on "Change advanced power settings" at the bottom left of that window. THIS IS THE AREA WHERE WE NEED TO FIX!
5)After you click on "Change advanced power setttings", you will see a POWER options popup, go to the bottom and then you can see something called "Battery" with a plus sign on the left. click it.
6) Now you just have to change the levels for the following values
--> Critical battery level ( you can change it to 10%)

It's a Dell XPS 400. I want a copy of the original software in preparation for possible future needs. Dell says they won't sell me replacement disks unless I can provide them with an original order number, original customer number and maybe even convince them I am the original purchaser. The service tag alone is not enough. *

I would use a generic Dell-branded Windows XP installation disk; but, this is 64-bit Windows and there aren't drivers on Dell's site for anything but 64-bit--and I don't have a Dell-branded 64-bit XP. For those who don't know, a Dell-branded copy of Windows XP will install and run on any Dell system. That may be the case with Dell-branded 64-bit Windows XP also; but, I don't have a Dell-branded copy of 64-bit Windows XP.

I've imaged the drive; but, having the original stuff would be preferred.

Does anyone know of a way to get Dell to sell me this software or of any place else I could get a Dell-branded copy of 64-bit Windows XP?

Hi i have a XPS M140 dell laptop, and bought a new battery, wich came charged to 40%, the instructions said that i should discharge the battery to 2% and then chargeit to 100% for first time.

I used the laptop withouth cord until it was 3%, then i plugged it but the amer light that should appear it is not when i plug the laptop with the battery installed, then i check the energy administrator (i have xp and lubuntu, and it both was the same) and it said "charging" but it stayed in 3%, i let it more than 12 hours plugged but never charged the battery, it is still in 3% and the light of the battery doesnt turn on.

I dont know if the battery is bad, because it worked when had charge, or is maybe the laptop that is not charging.

Is there a war to check if this port is charging electricity to the battery? i have a multimeter and i know how to open this laptop. Any information would be helpful as i havent been able to found information on this.

and also is there a way to know with the multimeter if the battery is allowing energy to charge it?

A:Trying to resinstall my dell inspiron to original factory settings.

Pulled from the web.

For Vista or Win 7

If your operating system is VISTA / Win 7, press the F8 key when you see the Dell logo. It will take you to the advanced boot menu options, which include 'Repair your Computer'. Select that option and enter your password if asked, then you will see a list of options like 'system restore' and 'command prompt'. The last option says 'Dell PC restore', or something along those lines. Select that option and follow the instructions on the screen.
If in both cases, the Factory default doesn't work, then your laptop's factory image defaults partition has vanished (i.e., been corrupted / deleted). In this case you will have to reinstall the operating system with the CD or DVD shipped along with the laptop. Follow the link below to install windows XP Pro on your own.
Start the computer.
As the computer starts, press the F8 key until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the screen.
Press the down arrow to select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced Boot Options menu, then press Enter.
Specify the language settings that you want, and then click Next.
Log in as a user who has administrative credentials, and then click OK.
Click Dell Factory Image Restore.
In the Dell Factory Image Restore window, click Next.
Click to select the check box for Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition.
Click Next. The computer is restored to the default factory configuration.

Hi,
About 1 year ago i bought UPS ( Discovery ), it has three outputs ( 220v - 3.6A ) and the input is 220-240v - 6A max.
Anyway, i have my PC, screen, router and surround system connected to it. AT first, when electricity goes down, the UPS used to give me around 5 mins of electricity which is more than enough to save work and turn off PC, but about 2 months ago it stopped charging for some reason, and now when electricity goes down, the UPS immediately shut down. I disconnected everything from it and let it charge for more than 48 hours but it didn't work.

What would be the problem ?

Thanx.....

A:UPS no longer charges

We have about 100 or more APC's here 110v and the batteries normally sound an alarm when they go bad (anywhere from 1 to 2 Years). Our server batteries last considerably longer and of course are more expensive.
Does the Discovery have that ability?
battery replacements run from $30 to 70 depending on size.

Hello everybody,my problem: Lenovo Y700 15 ISK with Windows 10 x64 charges the battery only to 95%. The bar at the bottom always shows "95% plugged in, charging?. I have no battery settings (maintenance mode etc.) activated, especially because I have no software to do so. As far as I know there is no such settings in Windows 10. I just bought it. Have immediately (without looking whether it loads to 95%) formatted the SSD and Installed Windows 10 and Drivers from http://support.lenovo.com/de/de/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-y-series-laptops/y700-15isk?qu...I installed only the Drivers and Lenovo Utility + Lenovo System Interface Foundation (which have no interface). I also tried to install Lenovo Companion and Lenovo settings and change battery settings such as conservation mode, etc. While it change the indicator from "charging" to "not charging" and back it still does not move over 95%. Does anyone have any advice for me? Should I return it?

My Dell XPS battery charges only to 99%. Technical support said this is a "normal" occurrence if you have "adaptive" charging on in the BIOS. They asked me to update the BIOS and then change it to "custom" charging. The battery now charges to 100%.
Is this normal behaviour or just a messy "fix"? I just want to confirm if this is a papered over fault, because I suspect that it is. Personally I am not too pleased with having to call Dell technical support on the day I opened my new laptop!

I have a Dell 8400 running Win XP sp2 that no longer recognizes either of the DVD drives (samsung and philipps). In My Computer the drives simply do not appear. I have reloaded the drivers, reseated the cables, deleted them from device manager -- and still NOTHING!

They do show up in Device Manager with error symbols. I have also been able to boot from the DVD using ERD commander so I know they work. I just can't get Windows XP to understand that.

Anyone have a clue what I need to do next aside from formating C: and reinstalling?

Hi all, My laptop is new, i've had it for just about a month now. There's usually an orange charging light on the side of the laptop that illuminates when the charger is plugged in. However recently, whenever my laptop is on and i try to charge it, the orange light illuminates for a matter of seconds and comes up with the message "plugged in but not charging" and then the light just turns white and the laptop continually runs as if nothing is plugged in. However, when the laptop is turned off, the orange light will iluminate and will  charge to 100%. The charger is completely fine as it appears to charge the laptop when it is off. I have even purchased a new charger and that has made no difference. It appears as though it's some type of settings problem, but i have checked settings and nothing seems to be different. Any help would be appreciated, as i'd hate to have to keep switching of my laptop just so that it will charge.

I have a HP amd a8 laptop - approximately 15 months old. Over the past 3 months I have noticed that it is not charging when plugged in. I used to be able to fully charge it, unplug it and work for 2 hours plus before having to recharge it. I would then plug it back in to top up the power. 3 months ago I noticed when I was doing this it was no longer topping up the power. In fact, the red light (which normally stays on when charging) would only flash once - and then go white and stay white; draining  the remaining power very quickly. I have tried other charges but to no avail. The laptop battery will charge when the laptop is off (lid closed) and in sleep mode. The battery port does feel a little loose but I don't think this is the problem as when I take the battery out and plug the main power in the laptop will power up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Clary

I have used cutePDFwriter for several years on my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop and it has worked beautifully. A few months ago, my computer simply stopped printing pdf's. When I "print" to the Cute PDF "printer," it lets me choose where I want the file saved. When I try to print that saved pdf (OR any other pdf file -- whether or not I created it) on my HP printer, my computer wants me to choose where I want the file saved.

My actual printer is an HP Officejet H470, but I don't think this problem has anything to do with that; it prints everything else just fine. I have uninstalled and re-installed cutePDFwriter, but I don't believe that has anything to do with the problem, either.

My Dell laptop came with Windows Vista but we upgraded it to Windows 7 quite a while back (way before this problem developed).

Suggestions?

A:Dell laptop will no longer print pdf documents

Not sure if this relevant since you haven't mentioned trying to print with Adobe Reader:

1. Open a PDF in Adobe Reader
2. Click File >> Print
3. Click the Advanced button
4. Make sure Print to File is not ticked
5. Click 'OK'

Now try printing with Adobe Reader.

First post so I apologize if I do something wrong.

I have a Dell Dimenson E510 which is about 4 years old. I had a problem with it about two weeks ago and I had to do a CHKDSK on it to get it back. Now the computer all of a sudden after working fine for two weeks comes up with the Dell screen and then the screen goes black and nothing happens. Not totally black like the monitor goes off, a light black and the computer just sits there.

I tried running CHKDSK again and it said it had an error. I ran it again and it said it fixed the error, but same problem upon boot up.

I tried booting in safe mode and like three drivers of the list come up and then it freezes there and does nothing else.

I am at a loss here as I can usually figure this stuff out and get it fixed. My wife will kill me if I lose this because all of our pictures are on the hard drive and just last week I was looking at a backup external drive and decided to wait until I get my tax refund. Great idea.

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks so much!!!

Laptop doesn't sleep when lid is closed

I have a Dell laptop that always went to sleep reliably when I closed the lid. Now it does not. I am able to get the laptop to sleep with the Start --> Sleep option but not with the lid closing and not with the power button.

On the power options interface screen, in the section that says "Power Buttons and Lid" there is no way to set a lid action - there is no choice or link available. It's like someone completely removed the computer's knowledge that it has a lid - maybe it somehow got tricked into thinking it was a desktop?

Thanks in advance for your help - I appreciate it!

Windows 7 Professional x64 running...

-Mike

A:Dell Laptop no longer sleeps when lid is closed

Now that I'm thinking about it, it may be in some "desktop" mode instead of a laptop mode. Here are other data points:
- It no longer shows the battery indicator in the lower right status bar
- The power options no longer show different options for when the system is "plugged in" vs "on battery power", it's just one setting.
- No more "lid" settings as I said above.

Hmmm - does anyone know how to check this or what a possible fix might be?

I bought this Desktop back in 2012. It came with Windows 7 Home Premium.

When the update came about 3 months ago about upgrading to Windows 10 for free I decided to give it a go.

I had been having screen issues at times ever since I upgraded so I decided to do a factory reset of my computer to have it restored to its state of when I bought it. I did this last week on 9/29/16.

The factory reset started but only got up to 40% and then my computer just turned off.

Now when I turn it on it does not load Windows at all.

All it does is turn on and stay stuck on the Black Dell loading screen and the blue bar loads halfway, then my computer automatically turns off and turns on and does the same thing over and over again.

The only way to stop it is to turn it off myself by holding to power button on the brain and turning it off.

The only other option is to hold the F12 button and go into the boot options. This takes me into the CMOS Setup Utility. It's a blue screen that has the options of

Standard Info
Standard CMOS Features
Advanced BIOS Features
Advanced Chipset Features
Boot Device Configuration
Power Management Features
Bios Security Features

Load Defaults
Save and Exit setup

I have no clue what I need to do to get my computer to work properly again.
I know a thing or two about computers but this issue I had never seen and I can't find anything on the Internet to help me out.

If anyone can please help me! THANK YOU!!!

I go to recover and it doesn't show the install image and thusly doesn't let me repair. A:Dell Inspirion 531/ No longer recognizes dvd drive

Try uninstalling the device in Device Manager (right-click the device and choose uninstall) then restart Windows which will re-install the driver.

If no change, one of the drive's lasers may have failed (a cd/dvd drive has two lasers, one for dvd & one for cd). In that case the drive will have to be replaced.

using power plan called "balanced" and default settings, anyway, the recommended one

currently the pc is set to shut down/sleep at 2 pc but because the battery expires much earlier [around 26pc] it just crashes, which cant be good for the HD. Will change this setting.
any ideas anyone

I am running One Key Optimizer and have a red dot on the battery level, which I thought meant that my computer needed to be optimized. (It did, to be honest.) However, after I did the Checkup, nothing showed up as wrong, but then when I went into the Battery area, it showed that the battery should be calibrated, which I tried starting. It started, but it only charged my battery up, and not discharged it to recharge it. I have it currently on high performance setting to help drain the battery, and I have it unplugged to try and discharge the battery. I know it has to be plugged in, not allowed to sleep, or not to power down the PC, but if it won't discharge, then what's the sense of a calibration? What is wrong?

Hi

For a few days, my Tecra A5 has begun to beep and shut down (as when the battery gets low) while it was connected to the power supply AC adapter.

I finally realized that when the computer is plugged in, the battery discharges and does not use the power supply to recharge.

On the other hand, if I switch off the computer, the battery starts to recharge.
I replaced the battery a few months ago, so I think it is still OK.

Could the charger be faulty? Seems strange since it can still recharge the battery when the computer is off.

Thanks in advance for your inputs.

A:Tecra A5 - battery charges only when computer is off

> Could the charger be faulty?

Theoretically; yes? but it could be also possible that the power supply electronic on the motherboard is affected? but at first stage the AC adaptor should be checked and notebook should be tested with new, good working AC adaptor.

I am guessing that the capacity does not matter it will just have a longer charge, but I don't know if the voltage will matter.

I was looking at the Dell XPS 15 listings on dell, and I noticed that the $1399.99 version (i7, 8gb Ram, 256ssd, non touch FHD) had only a 56 WHr battery while all of the other laptops with complete SSDs have the 84WHr battery. Is this a typo, as many other parts of listings on Dell are, or is it true that this model only has a 56WHr batttery? I thought that the reason some of the XPS had smaller batteries was because they had to fit the larger HDD. It would make no sense to not have the bigger battery with the SSD, because it would just leave a gap in the insides as the SSD takes up way less space than the HDD.

Hello,

Sorry for being away from posting on the forum since a long time, though I have been visiting the forum lot many times, without logging in - mainly through Google search. That shows how effective the website really is.

Since some time a very persistent error has been bothering me and I thought it best to come here and post the issue.

After my original battery for my Dell Studio 1555 32-bit computer died, I replaced batteries thrice, one after another (the computer is five years old).
The three replacement batteries were:
1. Dell - exact replacement 56 Wh
2. LB1 - matching specs but 48 Wh
3. Dell - exact replacement 56 Wh

Since the second replacement battery, the Low Battery Alarm has been disturbing me each time that:
1. The computer is restarted with the main power disconnected.
2. The main power jack is removed after a 100% charge.
3. The main power jack is removed anytime.

Since in the first place I never set this alarm manually, I am assuming there could either be a Dell specific registry issue with after-market batteries, though I don't understand why. Either way the irritant must go.

I checked Advanced Power Options under Power Scheme but found nothing that would give me a hint of what's wrong.

The alarm screenshot is attached.

Any help would be welcome.

A:False "Low Battery Alarm" with after-market battery - Dell Studio

Rule out the OS and Drivers by downloading a Linux LiveCD and booting from that See if you get the same errors/alarms/warnings.
If you do it could be a faulty charging circuit in your laptop. Check with Dell and see if they have a battery calibration tool. Sometimes completely running the battery flat a couple of times does a "reset" kind of thing.
Sorry I can't think of anything else just now.

Hi,
I am writing this as I have hopelessly tried all methods found online without success.
I have an XPS 15 bought in France. I move to Singapore and my original DELL AC adapter was spoiled. So I went to the nearest store and bought a third party adapter. Everything works out fine for a while... Now, my laptop won't charge anymore (stuck at 90%).
My laptop only turn on if it is plugged under ac adapter. When I unplug the ac adapter, my laptop turn off.
When I turn on my laptop it says "this battery charging is temporarily disabled, press F2 for entering BIOS Menu". In BIOS, under battery health it is said "this battery is temporarily disabled, please turn off the computer and try again when the unit is back to operational temperature" I have this problem systematically, my laptop is not heated.
I even bring it to a repair shop here in Singapore; but they do not even have the parts to test.
Please help.
I am willing to buy a new battery or new adapter, but I am not even sure if that's the problem.

Thank you

A:My Dell Optiplex 755 no longer recognises blank discs (DVD or CD)

Hello mikwar and welcome to TSF,

This could be a hardware issue.

Do you have a spare DVD or CD burner you could try?

This isn't actually a new issue but I've just used an external USB mouse since it occurred. The dell touchpad no longer will respond to anything. All of the touch buttons at the top work fine as does the keyboard. I just don't know if its a hardware issue or a driver issue. I installed the latest drivers and it still doesn't work so I'm assuming it could be hardware.

What also struck me as odd is that after installing the dell touchpad program and drivers I can't seem to launch the dell touchpad utility. It asks me to run the program but it never actually runs the computer acts as if I hadn't done anything.

Any ideas folks?

Hi guys, I have a problem with my laptop battery. It refuses to charge unless it's completely drained to 0%. It has no problem charging back up to 100% afterwards, but it just won't charge if it's anything above 0% even if the laptop is turned off, which has me baffled. I've searched for this problem but all I've found are instances where the battery WON'T charge after a complete drain, which is like the opposite of my problem...

I have an Averatec 2100 laptop running Windows XP. My battery specs are as follows:

Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery
Name: MS-1013
Unique ID: (blank)
Chemistry: LION
Power state: On Line
Manufacturer: (blank)

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

I've got a Thinkpad 600E running WindowsXP, which has performed pretty well, although the original battery (understandably) just refuses to hold a charge very long any more - although it will reliably recharge when the laptop is running on A/C.

I decided to invest in a new (genuine) IBM replacement laptop battery, which upon receipt, just wouldn't seem to go into the recharge cycle. The recharge light (lower left screen hinge) only blinks orange. Assuming "defective battery", I requested and received a return merchandise authorization, and returned the battery and requested a replacement. The replacement arrived, and the same problem.

Although not outside the realm of reasonableness, it seems improbably that two consecutive replacement laptop batteries would be defective. Under power options, the replacement battery appears to be being recognized - although just not charging (graphic shows a "circle and bar" running through the battery image).

So, clearly (at least to me),

There's nothing wrong with my A/C adapter
There's nothing wrong with my existing (old) battery
There's nothing wrong with the battery charging circuitry

Again, this is a genuine IBM laptop battery, with the exact same model as the old one and it seems to defy reason that this battery also has some sort of defect. Any suggestions on a way to "kick-start" the new battery into recharging?

You might see what lenovo support has in the way of manuals for that model, maybe some insight in one of them.

Hey guys, just a quick question related to laptops:
My friend told me today that when you plug in your laptop to charge, if the battery is full, the energy from the charger goes directly to the laptop, not wasting the ~400 charges a laptop battery usually lasts. So, according to him, it is better to always plug your laptop in when you're working and you have a plug cause you won't waste battery charges. Is this true??
Thanks a lot,
Leo

A:Wasting Laptop Battery Charges - Question

Basically Yes
However it its going to spend a lot of time running off mains then that's not good for the battery either. Some laptops will only recharge the battery to 80% for his reason.
Use the battery when out and about when at home charge the battery then remove it and use the laptop just running on the mains lead.

I have a HP stream x360, and it is having battery problems. First of all, it drains even when I shut it down completely. I shut it down with approximately 90% battery and about a day later it wont turn on. So I go to charge it, which leads to my second problem. It charges insanely slow. It has been plugged in for 12 hours, and when I press power, the button lights up for 5 seconds and then turns off. It isn't a kink in the wire because I store it properly, and it is unravelled when charging. It isn't the outlet because ai have moved 3 times, which means totally different outlets, but all with the same charge speed; SLOW. Finally, it is actually fully plugged into the computer because the little red light IS on, indicating it is charging. So what do I do? What is wrong? I can't take out a battery because it is internal. And currently, I cannot do anything with the computer because it is still dead, and it has a habit of taking 2 days to charge. About. Please help. I got it about 9 months ago. It isn't even a year old.

Hi!

For the past couple of weeks I have been having trouble with the battery of my Satellite L50-A. It stays at 0%, even though it does charge. If I remove the power adapter, the notebook keeps working for a while. Now here comes the odd part. If the notebook has been charging for a while, it shuts down. If I remove the power adapter it will start again and still indicate it's at 0%, but now it works for about 1.5 hours before the battery is actually empty.

So I use my laptop without power until it shut down, then I charge it for a couple of hours and then it shuts down and we start all over.

Does anybody have any idea what I could do to solve this issue?

I have tried:
Charging it overnight without using the laptopUpdating several driversDisconnecting the battery, booting with power adapter, shutting down and connecting the battery again

A:Toshiba Satellite L50-A battery charges but stays at 0%

Hi

Did you find a solution? I have a similar problem and can only run the laptop with the power connected.
I have a warning message that the battery needs to be replaced and if I do this it won't boot even though the replacement battery has been charged.

Long story short - I spilt water over my laptop keyboard and uplugged both AC cable and battery. 3 to 4 days later i plugged it in again, placed the battery and it was charging and running on it without any problem for 2 hours. Then i decided that it's just fine so I plugged the AC cable and I haven't used it on battery for 20-30 days. Well, today I unplugged the AC cable and my laptop turned off.
I downloaded a diagnostic tool called BatteryMon and it says:
(Since I'm unable to post images which is sad - please copy and paste it into your browser adress tab)
img714.imageshack.us/img714/8543/18495763.jpg
So, can anyone please tell me what does it really mean ? I can see that it says it's 120% charged which is overcharging, isn't it ? I'm not really into electrics, so please help me - how am I supposed to get my laptop battery working if it isn't dead ?

A:Lenovo G560 battery charges but laptop won't run on it

The battery contacts could be corroded by the spilled water. It takes time for this corrosion to develop so that's why the time that the laptop worked. The water could have affected other internal circuits too over time. The laptop needs to be opened up and inspected

Hi All

I recently bought a Replacment Battery for my Dell Inspiron 6000 XP . The Battery is by all accounts the correct replacment but when I put it in and try to boot up it up shuts down my computer . Also when i put it in it makes my computer noisy as a result of the fan coming on ? The battery light flashes green orange green orange too ..When i contacted the retailer they told me update the BIOS but when i try to do so from the Dell site it just brings me to a fault page after clicking download..Anyway Im not sure i want to update the BIOS as some forums don't recommend so ..

I'm a real novice ..Wonder can anyone help ?

Have a fault in the battery ...The company thinks it's my machine and not their battery ..I can return it but i would rather get it working.

Inspirion E1505 Intel Core Duo Processor T2050
Dell Battery original---53 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery, for Inspirion 6400/E1505
Purchase date 8/06

This is may seem like a silly question, but I'm a real novice about computer and without asking I won't learn. My daughter's computer, listed above, will not retain a charge, she is still using the original battery. I am planning on buying a new battery. Actually I have two questions.

Question 1 Is it possible/probably that it is anything other than the battery that could be the problem. The computer works fine when plugged in. I know in a car, if the alternator isn't working the battery won't charge, changing the battery by itself, won't fix the problem. How about in a Lap top?

Questin 2 Where is the best place to buy a battery, least expensive, but quality?

Really appreciate your help. Thanks Mom

Howdy folks... My Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop is doing a strange thing. Immediately following POST (i have the diagnostics screen enabled) and before the Dell blue bar, I get a message that reads something like this. "WARNING. The battery is not recognized and it may not be able to be charged. Press any key to continue" It will just hang there until a key is pressed.

I've had this once before when the original battery was dying after about a year and a half. At that time it would charge OK, but would only last about 30 minutes. Purchased a new battery (not from Dell) and warning went away with normal boot into XP. That was about 6 - 8 months ago.

This started happening when recently I unwittingly unplugged the AC adapter with the machine on and the battery ran completely down. Been doing it ever since. The difference between this event and the last time is again the battery charges normally, but now lasts over 2.5 hours when running on battery power. So it does not constitute a functional problem, just a pain in the butt to have to remember I have to hit a key to boot.

Anyone got a clue other than to buy another battery. (hardly seems worth it)

i bought a dell E1505 laptop about 1 year and 2 months ago. i used to get good battery life and now my battery lasts about 20 minutes if i get lucky. i know that batteries degrade over time due to the half life, but does it occur that quickly? does not seem right that i have to buy a battery that costs over $100 every year. does anyone else have this problem? are there any solutions to this? thanks

A:Dead Dell Battery

Yes, it happens. It depends on the battery, and whether you cycle it from full to dead often or not. The e1505 is also a budget model that eats battery life. If you want battery life, I would suggest that you get get an ultralight, not a low-end dell. =/

Sometimes freezing the battery will help... but make sure it's in a sealed bag with no moisture if you try it. You don't want to short it.

I have a dell Vostro and my battery died on me. On the battery it says "Capacity 56Wh". I found some batteries at batteries.ca and they are for my laptop but they are rated different they say " 4600mAh" instead. Can some one tell what the difference between these 2 ratings are. Also there is a battery there that says "6600mAh". Doest this mean it would last longer?

thanx

A:Dell Vostro battery

You have to do a conversion, see here for an explanation: http://www.camerahacker.com/Definitions/Battery_Capacity_Conversion.shtml
But yes, the higher the number, the longer it will last.
