My fathers HP Envy M6 will not turn on, or charge.   I have the same computer, so I can troubleshoot a few things using mine.  From swapping the simple parts around, I can tell that the battery and charger is still functioning properly.  When plugged in, there is no charge light.  When my good, fully charged battery is put into his computer, it doesn't turn on.  It seems to be compeltely dead. I have tried the reset where you remove the battery, hold the power button for a minute, plug in the power cord and push the power button....it didn't work.  I understand there is a seperate circuit for the power cord.  If this is defective, would it only be charging that is affected?  I put a known fully charged battery in, and still nothing, so if this circuit is defective, would the computer also be non functional on battery power? I'm looking for any suggestions that might help, or point to the defect.

I am having the same issue, is there something possible to do for getting it working back?

My HP Envy Desktop, will not turn on.  I tried unplugging it and replugging in.  The green light on the back turns on when I plug it in, however when I press the on switch, absolutely nothing happens

A:Envy won't turn on

Although you did not state an exact model number, the generic PowerSupply (PSU) troubleshooter can be found here. What is bothersome is your description,  as pressing the switch might cause the green light (as stated) to turn - off.  Perform the step-by-step, without skipping anything.  Have the case open, and observe the CPU fan, and rear fan fan.

hi, I bought a HP Envy x360 laptop (m6-w103dx) in the US a couple of months ago and today it has just shut down (died) on me and I cannot boot it up. Power cable light is on, so has power, but nothing's happening.I plug in the charger and the orange light turns on and then when I click the power button it blinks white one time then it turns off right away.Any help would be appreciated... Thanks...

A:NEW HP Envy x360 Won't Turn On

If you leave the power adapter plugged in dose the led stay amber? That means it is charging. Your troubleshooting describes a notebook with too low of a battery charge to boot into Windows. Let it charge for an hour or so before trying to power it on.

Remove any discs, any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices (printers, scanners, external hard drives, and similar). Do not have anything connected to the notebook.

After you have removed all discs and devices, try to turn on the computer. What happens this time?

Hi You have a couple of options as I see it please try the steps given below might help you fix the issue.  1) Disconnect the Adapter & Battery first just press and hold the power button on the unit for 30 seconds and then turn on the unit only using the Adapter and have it checked. 2) Once unit is power on keep tapping the F8 OR F10 key check if you get any display on the screen. 3) If you are comfortable please reseat the Hard drive & Memory and check if you get any display on the screen.  Let us know how it goes! *Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.****Click the White Kudos star to say thanks********Please mark Accept As Solution if it solves your problem**** RegardsManjunath

Hi ambowditch.  so, your notebook having issue with no display & caps lock is blink. caps lock blink is actually was an error which is notebook motherboard was try to tell to user.what u need to do is, try to count how many time caps lock is blink.  try do following troubleshooting first before u count the caps lock blink. 1. perform power cycle. remove battery & power adapter. then press & hold power button for 30 sec. then plug in power adapter only and power on the unit. make sure battery is not installed. if you lucky, may be the notebook will start with HP Logo and windows will load as usual. but if not, try to count how many time caps lock is blink. thanks. ghost. Please mark my post as SOLVED if it has resolved your problem. Noticed while using the laptop that it wasn't charging, even while plugged in.  Screen went blank, then all noise stopped. The charging light where the power adapter plugs is comes on when connected to power.  Replaced the internal power adapter and the entire power adapter cord, still nothing even after hard reboot where I tok out the battery and held the power button. Is it worth fixing? I've only had it two years.  Thanks!

I own an HP Envy TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC product number: E0K05UA#ABA and Model: 15-j053cl

I had a couple plastic screw inserts that hold the right side hinge to the top cover of the laptop break due to very high strength of the hinges which caused the top cover of the laptop to pry apart from the base enclosure when opened (a problem many owners of this laptop model have had). Since I was out of warranty I ordered a replacement on Ebay using the correct part number 720570-001 and disassembled my laptop to make the repairs and loosen the hinges while I was at it. I swapped out all parts being careful to note where and how plugs and ribbons were connected so I could put it back together correctly. Now after having it reassembled it will not turn on.

I get a white LED light to turn on when I plug in the power cord AC adapter (should be amber/orange in color to signify it is charging the battery) but no other sounds lights or signs of life. I have attempted to remove the battery and power cord, pressed the power button for 8-30 seconds to drain power and do a reset and then try to power up with plugging in the power cord but it won’t turn on. I also tried to power up by removing one part at a time including the hard drive, two RAM sticks, and wireless card but still not able to turn on. Do you have any ideas for what may be wrong or steps I can take to troubleshoot? Is this possible a mother board issue? Everything was working fine before embarking on this r... Read more

Hi, it seems that I keep having problems with my HP envy m6 notebook PC (windows 8). I have had this computer for 2 years and it keeps breaking down on me! I was using it this morning around 9:30 AM, and it was running fine, and it was charged. I turned the computer off, then headed to my class. Once I got out of class I went to turn on my computer and it would not turn on! I tried taking out my battery and putting it back in and turning it on, taking the battery out completely and turn it on with the charger hooked up, I even took out the battery, unplugged it and pressed the power button for a minute then put the battery and charger back in and tried turning it on and still nothing! This is very frusterating as I am a college student and I need this laptop for classes and I can't afford to have my computer break down on me anymore! Will someone please help me?! P.S. My led light when my charger was plugged in was not turning on either, and the power adaptor was not warm when plugged in, I don't know if this is one of the reasons why my computer will not turn on.

Hp won't charge. This is an HP refurb and it has worked fine since I bought it in May, until recently when it suddenly stopped charging. I've checked the charging cable and there is no damage, likewise no damage to laptop input. I've tried it at several outlets in my home to assure it wasn't the issue. This model doesn't have an accessible battery. It is completely dead and will not power on. Should I order a replacement cable or take it in for new battery or repair??

The charging light is still on when it is plugged into the wall.A few weeks ago it randomly restarted and shut off when I was watching a movie on it but it rebooted no problem. My phone fell out of my hand 3 nights ago and landed just left of the track pad when it shut off and won't turn back on.

My outlets are perfectly outputting power, so there is no issue there but laptop just sits there literally doing nothing.

So the power button on my HP detached from the laptop. Long story short, I was boarding back home and hit a rock and fell forward therefore breaking the corner of the power button and shatter the touchscreen. I was still workin fine, except the fact that the screen was shattered and the power chip was dangling out of the laptop. It survived a few weeks before the power chip fell out. I couldnt find the time to go to a store to see what they could do. the only thing keeping it alive was the charging power but I fell asleep with the laptop on. Lucky me. The laptop was working perfectly. I've had it for some time right now. I have ALOT of important files and documents. I was wondering if there was a short-cut or a way I can get my Laptop on without using the power button. I just want to back-up everything i have in the laptop and make a desicion of getting a new one or fixing this one.

Hi, I have recently purchase (5 days ago) a HP Envy 15-J151SA, but its started to play up already. I had used my laptop yesterday at uni and had run the battery down to about 15%, so I plugged the power pack in as normal and charged the laptop to 100%. When I came to unplug the charger, the laptop just instantly turned off without warning. I thought this was very odd until I tried to turn the laptop back on to no response at all, no lights, no flashing, no nothing. I thought I'd plug the charger back in again and as soon as I plugged the charger in the light on the power button flashed oncw and then when pressed the laptop loads as if nothing had happened. Obviously when I load up apps such the internet and MS Word it says it wasn't closed properly and asks if I want to restore where I left it at. I have looked at other forums who have suggested battery tests (which come back as ok) and tries to recalibrate the battery but this hasn't solved anything, I have tried use the reset function (hold power and the beats button) but I don't have a beats button. It is all up to date with Windows and HP updates.Obviously being a student I paid good money for this laptop and haven't got the time to be messing around taking back to PCWorld where I bought it from.Any help will be appreciated, Thanks Spudy101

I know this has started to be covered already but the discussion was never finished. This was the original post: I have discovered that the keyboard backlighting won't turn off. The backlight on/off key is labeled as F5. I press it, but nothing happens. I've also tried pressing fn+f5, but that doesn't do anything either. I had been leaving the backlight on, but now I want it to only be on when I press the f5 key. Why won't the backlight turn off? I am having the exact same issue. I followed the instrustions of the helper, which were: Can you please get to the Desktop Screen of Windows by pressing the Windows Key and ?D? keys together and then press the F5 key? As you might know, F5 is used for refreshing a Window/Page. Do you see the Desktop Icons getting refreshed? This is to make sure that the F5 key is working or not?If you got confused with that suggestion, please open MS Word and then press the keys ?Fn? and ?F5? together and let me know whether you get the ?Find and replace? Window? I didn't understand the first part, but the second part I got. I opened Word and pressed Fn and F5 together and can confirm that the 'Find and Replace window appeared. However, I have no idea what to do from here or how to fix the problem, please help me. Also bear in mind please that I am 16 years old and know pretty much nothing about computers. Also, I only got this laptop for Christmas 2015 and am not very familiar with everything yet.

A:How do i turn off the Internal speakers on my HP ENVY 23-d02...

Hi, The answer to your question depends on your reasons for wanting to turn off the speakers.  Recently, I noticed that when I plugged my headphones into the headphone output on the Envy 23 I use at work, the music would still play through speakers, annoying my co-workers. I still wanted to be able to listen through headphones, so I plugged the headphones into the speaker output on the back of the computer. Now the music only plays through the headphones. When the compter is viewed from behind, the output is probably near the lower-right corner. It looks just like your headphone output, but has a little icon that looks a little bit like this:(((.))) To listen to your headphones without the speakers playing, plug your headphones into that speaker output on the back of the computer. If, on the other hand, you want to completely shut your speakers down, try this (be warned: this will shut your headphones down as well): Press the Windows + W keys, and type Sound into the search field.Select Sound from the search results. On the Playback tab of the Sound window, double-click Speakers / Headphones. On the General tab of Speakers / Headphones Properties, select Don't use this device (disable) from the Device usage drop-down near the bottom of the window.Click OK

It has been great up until recently. i was using my laptop last nite when suddenly it turned off but i didn't think that the battery shoukd have been dead yet. its acting as if the bat is empty and plugging it in just turn on the orange led by the power plug. when i press the power button it flashes for a second but the screen does nothing and it doesn't actually turn on.I'm using my phone to attempt to find a solution atm which is very frustrating. adding to the stress is the fact that i have school work projects and a midterm project on it that I need to finish.Almost forgot to mention it started doing a few other odd things over the last week such as the touchscreen going nuts registering phantom touches endlessly until i close/hibernate/shutdown it.

I have an HP Envy 15T and my right hinge just broke AGAIN.   I had it fixed by HP in March, 2015, and now about a year and a half later, the right hinge is broken again. As other people state, I am very careful with my computer.  Most of the time I leave it sitting on the desk, open, and don't move it much, but sometimes I have to close the display lid and put it in the case to go with me, and today I heard the plastic break inside, the screw is gone, and when slowly closing the display the case pops open at the hinge.  A piece of black plastic came out when I turned the laptop sideways.  Obviously a design flaw, the weight of the screen and hinges being held together by a tiny plaster piece. I wish HP would let me upgrade to another type of computer as this one is obviously going to continue breaking even with my careful use of the laptop. Looking for any and all assistance. Thank you, Mark

Hello,  This is my first time on this site and I have been having some trouble with my computer.FIrst of all, my computer is the HP Envy 23 Touchsmart PC and its roughly around 3-4 years old. For all this time, it has been working fine without any problems, but one day I was playing a game on my computer and it randomly shut down. At first, I thought I accidentally kicked a cord, so I made sure every cord was in their sockets tightly. Thinking it was a loose cord that caused it to shut down, I tried to turn it on again. Unfortunately, there was no luck.   In furthur investigation on my computer, I noticed my power cord was making a small beeping/chirping noise every 2-3 seconds with its green light flashing on and off in sync with the green light. What I found interesting was when I unplugged the power cord from the computer, the green light would actually stay solid without it blinking or making any noise. When i replug it back in, it continues to blink and make the small beeping noise again. As a computer amateur, I am afraid to open my computer up and try to fix the problem myself. And I was also hoping for some solutions here on this site before bringing it into a store to get it fixed.  I also updated my computer to Windows 10 if any of that matters. Thank you for your time!

Hello!  I went to put my desktop into sleep mode before bed last night and noticed it had turned off.   No idea why.  I go to turn it on and NOTHING.  No lights, no sounds, no fans, nothing.  The power signal light on the back is flashing green.  I followed some steps from this page http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph06788#AbT4 Unplugging everything from the back and holding  the power button for 10 seconds didnt do anything.  Pushing for 1 second and waiting 10 seconds didn`t do anything.  I took off my side panel for the next steps, but didn`t want to touch anything as I don`t want to harm anything.  I`ve tried another outlet and the light keeps blinking green.  I haven`t had this computer for too long, maybe a couple years or less.  I take good care of it with good antiviruses and making sure to put it to sleep mode everynight, and keep it updated etc.  Looks like the power to the machine is okay since the light is flashing....  is it something internal? Wondering if anyone could help?   Feeling anxious.  Please and thank you!

The other day I decided to turn my envy off for the first time in roughly a week. I usually just leave it on, plugged into the charger, putting it into sleep mode when im not using it. For some reason, ever since then I have not been able to turn it back on. Whenever I press the power button, The power light blinks. The pattern is a single short blink every 3-5 seconds. This continues until I take the battery out. Sometimes, if I leave it be for a day or so, I am able to get the computer to turn on, but It will not boot. I can hear the fan going, see the lights turn on as they are supposed to, however the screen remains black. I am under the impression that this either a hardware issue, or the CPU is just toast. either of which would suck. Normally I would take to a computer shop and have them look at it, but right now I'm serving in Iraq, so im SOL. And yes, I have tried everything under the sun to get it running. I have taken the battery out and left it out for an extended period, tried turning it on with and without the ac adapter plugged in, tried to perform a hard reset, and a combination of all of them.

I followed the instructions listed on this page for "performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset". In particular I followed the "Reset a notebook with a sealed or non-removable battery" section as my laptop has a non-removable battery. However, I did all this to no avail. When I release the power button it produces a brief white light and the F12 button with a "wireless" icon (see attached image below) produces an equally brief orange light simultaneously. I don't know what's going on From what I can gather from this thread, it has to do with the motherboard. Hi there, I am new to the Forum. I hope you can help me.The original Windows was 8 upgraded to 10.I replaced the bottom cover. The Notebook was working fine before. In the proses I disconnected the CMOSS battery, HD, DVD, WiFi adapter, etc. I have done this before many times. Before assembling all back, as I usually do, I performed a quick test. I connected the LCD, memory, CMOSS battery, on/off button board, keyboard and DC charger. When I pressed the on/off button the led on the on/off board turned on, the CPU fan turned on, the HP logo on the back of the LCD turned on, the LCD screen stays black and the caps lock led start blinking once every 2 or 3 seconds.Because this Notebook was Windows 8 and use UEFI I decided to finish the assembling and try again. It responded the same as before.I can?t believe that the MB is bad; it was OK before replacing the bottom cover. Probably something to do with the UEFI/Windows 10 combination??????What I have tried?1-Hard Reset: no battery, no DC charger and pressing on/off button for 15 seconds.2-Disconected the CMOSS battery for several hours.3-Turning on and hitting the Esc, F12,F11,F10? button many times (all the F buttons).

First timer here.  I've had my HP Envy for only a year and it won't turn on.  Nothing out of the ordinary happened to it, but when I plugged in the power source and push the power button, the light next to the power input hole flashes 3 times.  I tried letting it sit overnight to see if it was just drained, but still no change.  I took battery out, plugged power cord into laptop and still nothing.  We use wifi as our internet connection and didn't receive and error messages or warnings before this happened. I'm not sure if it's just the power cord itself or something with the laptop. Thanks for any and all help!!! Joe

One night, a couple months ago, I was trying to play a game with a friend when my computer just turned off. It wouldn't turn back on. The next day I was able to get it to come back on and it had some boot message, but I didn't have time to read it before it booted. It was on but wouldn't charge. I turned it off to conserve battery a couple more times before it was permanently dead.I have tried hard reset, but I get absolutely no reaction from my computer.I have replace the internal DC power adapter, but the computer stills doesn't respond (also retried hard reset). So the motherboard should be getting power, but my computer doesn't turn on, charge, or blink. It worked initially after dying, so why doesn't it work now? What kind of options do I have? I would love to send it in to HP to repair (as long as it doesn't cost more than $400), but I have had any luck contacting HP support yet.My computer is out of warranty.

I will list what I have done and this will be on both of them.Replaced ram with known good ones.Removed the CMOS battery for 15 minCleared BIOS with jumper (battery in)Tried tapping F10 for 8 seconds then arrow down twice and hit Enter twice.A hard reset unplugged and held in power button for a couple minutes I see an HDMI port on both but I believe this is an input port?? I have read about reflashing the BIOS on a 23-d010ea and was wonder if this is what might be needed??That article is here CLICK HERE toward the bottom of the page.Any help is apreciated!!

Im planning to buy a HP Envy 13  to use for school, since this notebook is lightweight and thin and the battery life (from what I've read) is decent. I've noticed that there are 2 HP ENVYs available, both with the same specs, both with the same price ( ENVY 13-d120nd and ENVY 13-d010nd). I wondered what the differences are between them. So I hoped you guys from the forum could help me with this. And if any of you got any suggestions for other HP notebooks in the same priceclass with a good (maybe better) battery life to use for school, feel free to suggest  Thanks in advance!

The right hinge on my Envy 17 Touch Screen has failed, causing the case to become separated and the lid to be nearly impossible to close. This is the second Envy 17 to fail in this way. About a year ago my husband's broke and HP spent nearly three months attempting to repair it before finally just shipping him a new one. This appears to be a flaw in the construction of the hinge assembly, and we have noticed that the newer models, such as my husband's replacement, have a much improved design in comparison. We spent about $1,300 on this computer (it has an i7 Core and 16 GB of RAM) and hoped it would hold up for a while. The laptop was great, but now it has become difficult to use without fear of causing further damage. Thank you for any suggestions.

Recently noticed the notebook wasn't aligned to my desk. Thought the feet on the bottom were uneven. They're fine. The notebook seems to have a "bubble" on the keyboard where it's higher than the rest of the keyboard. Obviously it's impacting the entire notebook since it's no longer sitting level. I'm concerned it's going to impact the performance of the keyboard and the fact that it's not even and "rocks" when I'm typing is driving me crazy.   Can someone please direct me on how this can be repaired. I have a bit of a strange issue with my computer. Forgive me if I'm a little too descriptive, but I'm not sure which details are relevant and which are not for such a problem. First, the specs:

Model: eMachines T2984
Operating System: Windows XP Service Pack 2
Processor: Intel Celeron D Processor 340, 2.93 GHZ, 256K L2 Cache, 533 MHZ FSB
Power Supply Unit: Bestec Model: ATX-250-12E REV: P7
Motherboard: I can't tell, but it appears to be an Intel motherboard by the number of Intel labels on it
RAM: 512 MB DDR SD originally, added 1 GB a couple of months ago
Let me know if you need anything else...

Yesterday, I got home from shopping around 1PM, and I tried to start the computer. I pushed the power button, and nothing happened. I checked all of the cords, and they were all plugged in. Not knowing what else to do, I opened up the case to see if there was something obviously wrong. The only thing that I noticed (other than a bunch of dust) was that the power supply unit was still hot. I shut the computer down about 5 hours earlier after about 20 minutes of use, so it seemed strange that the power supply was still hot. I unplugged the computer just in case there was some sort of fire hazard.

At this point, I called a friend who suggested that the problem might be with the motherboard or the power supply unit.

A few hours later, I plugged it back in to try to get it to work. As soon as I plugged it in, the entire unit suddenly started "running" by itsel... Read more

I would suspect that the Power Supply Unit (PSU) is going south. If you have a spare one laying around, install it and see if the problem goes away.
You can buy a new, better PSU from Newegg for about $40.00. I have used a Thermaltake 430 watt in one of my machines for some time now and it works well.
You will have to check the size of your PSU to be sure a new one will fit into the eMachine.
Here's the page with that PSU on it. It's the last one on the list.

Ad-Hoc requires that you restart the session each time.

Connectify pro has an auto start option that does this but it's a paid version, connectify lite is free but I'm not sure if has auto start.

I can't turn my computer on. The fans and lights turn on for a second and then turn off. a few seconds later they'll turn back on and then turn back off. I've had this computer for 4+ months now, i built it myself. it recently started doing this but i'd just turn off the PSU (Power Supply Unit) and turn it back on and it woould fix it. now it doesnt fix it anymore. i've re-slotted the RAM (Random Access Memory) and pushed it in firmly, but that hasn't done anything. i've tried different power outlets and pushed everything into the MOBO (Motherboard), i havent messed around with CPU (Processor) because that's just a pain in the a**... i was wondering if there was anything else i could do before having to take it into a local repair shop, lol.

as for my computer specs

CPU (Processor): Fx-6300 AMD
GPU: R9-270x AMD
RAM (Random Access Memory): 8GB Ballistix sport
MOBO (Motherboard): ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0
PSU (Power Supply Unit): Corsair X500 w 80+
Case: Rosewill GALAXY

thanks

A:Fans turn on, lights blink and then turn off/on repeatedly.

First, I would unplug everything that isn't necessary. Everything external except for the keyboard and monitor. Internally, just leave the CPU, RAM and video card installed. See if it turns on. If not, you might try and test the power button. Disconnect the power button from the mobo. If the pin headers allow for it, use the reset button as the power button. If not, you can use a flat head screwdriver to power on the computer (cross the two pins for the power button with the blade of the screwdriver). If you do this, just be very careful. Touch only the power button pins and nothing else! You could easily damage components by touching the screwdriver to the wrong thing.

Some motherboards have a power button right on the board that you can press to power on the computer. I looked at a pic of your board and didn't notice one.

If that doesn't do it, plug the power button back in. You might try and play around with the RAM. I don't know if you have 2 or 4 sticks of RAM, but try and boot the computer with only one stick of RAM at a time. If there's a bad stick, you'll find it through this process of elimination.

If none of the above works, then it might be a bad PSU.

Hello Folks,

I'm not sure if my issue is with hardware (possibly MB?) or graphics card, so please forgive me if I've posted in the wrong section. The first problem I was having was random blue screens of death that displayed graphic card driver issues. I was able to remedy that by updating my graphic drivers and have not had an issue since.

However, ever since then I have been running into another hardware or graphics-related issue that is random and completely stumping me. What is happening is, I will be on my computer, leave and turn my monitor off, and (randomly) when I come back to use my computer again, when I turn on the monitor there is no signal and a black screen (e.g. when I turn my monitor on my desktop will pop up and the light on my monitor will turn blue, when it doesn't turn on there will be a black screen and the light on the monitor stays yellow as if it is idle). I have tried swapping out the monitor to see if that was the issue and the same problem persists, so it does not appear to be my monitor or VGA cables.

The only way I can temporarily fix this issue is to reboot/restart my computer and viola! The monitor works again and I can see everything. This issue is very random. Sometimes I can go weeks without an incident, other times this is happening a couple times a week. I honestly don't know if it's my motherboard or video card or what. My PC isn't overheating, I'm not overclocking, and all of my drivers are updated.

I'm not sure what... Read more

Display turns off after about fifteen minutes regardless of whether I am actively using the computer or not. The only way to turn the display back on is to close and then open the lid. This disconnets me from AOL, so I have to sign back on again, and if I was emailing, I might lose my current email.

Under Power Options, I have 'Turn off the display' set to Never for both On Battery and Plugged in. Under 'Put the computer to sleep' I have both On battery and Plugged in set to never. Nonetheless, the display still shuts off while I am working.

What do I need to do to prevent the display from turning off at odd intervals?

This is my problem: I have the power saving settings set to turn off my monitor after 20 min. It does briefly turn off, only to turn on again 1 sec. later, displaying a faint very dark blue screen... It used turn off fine, but after upgrading from Windows 98SE to XP Pro I got this problem. Is this the OS or my video card?

Any clues?

Thanks all

A:"Turn monitor off" setting doesn't really turn off

Did you upgrade to XP right over the top of 98 or was it a clean install? If you did an upgrade over the top of 98 (and I know you don't want to hear this lol) then you should format and do a clean install. Upgrades rarely leave you with a stable system.

Things to try before you do that though:

1) Make sure your video card drivers are up to date.

2) Make sure Windows is updated - go to windowsupdate

3) try the system file checker (Start, Run, "sfc /scannow" [without the quotes]) to make sure your system files are intact.

Other than that I would say just do a format and install XP from scratch (to be honest, you should do this anyway if you haven't already, you'll get much better stability and performance).

This may have been disabled on your computer, particularly if you are in a Domain (e.g.: at work, in a library, etc).

However assuming that you have Administrator rights to your computer you should be able to turn it on and off by going to Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall > Turn Windows Firewall on or off.

If you cannot turn the Firewall off through the above approach try the following Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services

Looks for the 'Windows Firewall' Service, double click it, then click on 'Stop'.

From within the Service properties you can also stop the Firewall from starting with Windows, etc.

Hi,

I've set Turn off the display setting in my power plan to 15 minutes and my monitor does turn off after that period (sometimes it doesn't!), but then, sometimes, it turns ON by itself after few minutes.

I've been Google-ing these days trying to find some solution and I came across suggestions which recommends that Allow this device to wake the computer option, located in the Power management tab, in the Properties window of the network adapter, in the Device manager, should be disabled. Also, there were suggestions that Wake on Magic packet property in the Advanced tab should be disabled, too. Unfortunately, all that did not work in my case.

Does somebody know what can cause this problem? Has anyone ever encountered such phenomena?

Thanks in advance.

A:Monitor turn on by itself after "Turn off the display" starts

Hello alokin87 & welcome to Sevenforums,

Sometimes the computer Wake from standby because of a program's updating itself. Sometimes it does wake, sometimes it does not!

Therefore it could be the Windows Media center as explained in this Hotfix from MS. You could give a try:

Look at post #1:

"-Do you find that your Windows 7 Computer wakes up from sleep unexpectedly at a particular time every day? If so then you might to check up if any scheduled tasks are waking your PC up."

Hi everyone,

While turning on my computer the it turns on, fans are starting to move, but screen won't turn on, and the beep of the bios is not heard.

pressing the sleep/reset button next to the turn-on button computer goes off, pressing it again turns on the computer without any problem. (now I'm working with the same computer) i thought maybe it's the power supply that gives me problem but changed between computers, this still gives me trouble and other computer works good (besides its many problems ). any idea what to do?

Thanks in advance
Chaim.

BTW, while trying to write this thread I got all this terms that i didn't know how to call in English, like power supply - is that the box which connects to the power and to all the m-board and drives? is there an English computer terms dictionary?

I had heard that it is best for your computer when it is left on all the time. So I don't let it go on stand-by either. I just use the screensaver. Is this true?

A:To turn it off or not to turn it off? That is the question

Just got a new to me P3 computer up and running. Sometimes during star up it does not recognize the PS2 keyboard. Which makes it hard to go into my password protected User ID. When trying to shut down it will keep a few things running like some fans and the CD drive. But it does not sound like the Hard Drive is spinning.

If I use the XP to shutdown it goes into this limbo stage of neither off nor on, same goes for the power button on the front of the computer. It will either start up the computer or turn it to the limbo mode. Upon starting up, I can use the mouse to get it all the way into a non password protected XP users screen but can't do anything without the keyboard working. In the process of setting up I have had everything working earlier today but this keyboard and limbo status has been an intermitent problem. What should I try?
Thanks

I left my computer (tower) on for a couple of hours whilst I wasn't in the room. When I returned it had switched itself off, and there was a slight burnt out smell coming from it.
It now will not turn on

Have changed the power lead- still won't turn on

Any ideas??

A:Computers turn itself off, now won't turn on...help!

Replace your power supply then proceed to continue troubleshooting elsewhere.

I have my updates set to "Download updates but let me choose whether to install them"

Yet every now and then, with no action on my part, when I go to turn off my computer or to restart it I get the "Do Not Turn Off" message and windows starts installing updates. This is Ok if the updates are short but very frustrating if it takes a while and I need the computer to restart fast or shut down fast.

Is there any setting that will prevent this from happening?

A:How do I turn off update function that causes "Do Not Turn Off"

This is what I use and it works most of the time.

I have 3 Benq XL2720Z monitors for gaming. XL2720Z LED Gaming Monitor | BenQ 16:9 LED Gaming monitors

I would like to know if it's better to turn off all 3 monitors by pressing the power button on all the monitors when not in use for over 12 hours or just let my computer turn the display off which I currently have a way to do to it by pressing a certain key.

Personally I would prefer to just let my computer turn the display off since I only have to press 1 button on my keyboard rather than have to press 3 power buttons on the monitors which don't really work that well.

However my final choice goes down to which is better for the monitors themself. I don't want to end up damaging the monitors.

Anyone know which way is safer? I can't seem to find a clear answer.

A:Turn Monitors Display Off or Fully Turn Monitors Off?

Hi,
I got a UPS 1500 battery backup that has 1 plug that controls 3 others that makes the decision for me when the 1 plug is using no power or the machine is powered off

Prior I just used the button on the monitor seems more reliable than counting on a feature to work before windows even boots.

Q: HP Envy

One of the screws that holds my HP Envy 17 - j053ea laptop casing together no longer attaches to anything. It appears that the screw was once attached to a plastic fitting, but now that fitting is broken and the pieces of plastic are loose inside the laptop. When I open the laptop, the casing pulls apart near the hinge. I purchased the lap top brand new paid 1000 just over year and half ago. How can the laptop be repaired?

Hey All! DarthPotato here again.          I currently own the HP Envy 700-216 PC and wanted to upgrade it. Not just the GPU as most people do. I want to upgrade the PSU, Motherboard, GPU, CPU and possibly get an All-In-One Water cooler. My main concerns are if the GPU will fit in the case, and the watercooler. If anyone can tell me if the PSU will fit as well, that would be greatly appreciated.  I have two plans, either budget or mid-level, and I will be posting both of the ideal specs that I want here. Budget: CPU: Intel Pentium G3258Motherboard: MSI H81M-P33 PSU:  EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power SupplyGPU:  EVGA GeForce GTX 950 2GB Superclocked+ ACX 2.0 Video CardCooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Mid-Level: CPU: Intel i5 6600kMotherboard: ASrock B150m Pro4PSU: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power SupplyGPU: Asus Radeon R9 380Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVORAM/Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black (2x4GB)

Greetings, Measure the existing power supply. Then compare the measurements to the  EVGA 500 W you are interested in using. You will need to add an operating system (OS) to the list. OEM OS licenses are not transferable. You might as well go all the way and add a new tower. Build a new system. Keep the 700-216 as a backup PC. I changed some components on an Envy 810-150 (below) but built a new system (custom build) using all new components and a new operating system. My Systems:Envy Phoenix 810-150se running Win 7 Professional:Upgrades include: EVGA 4GB GTX 970 OC FTW with Backplate, 32 GB RAM, Corsair RM650x Power Supply, Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD.My Custom Build:Corsair Obsidian Series 450D. I7 5960x. 32 GB G. Skill DDDR4 Ram. 256GB - M.2 - V-Nand - Solid State Drive. Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD. ASRock X99 Fatal1ty Pro /3.1. Corsair RM750x power supply. Nvidia GTX 980ti. Cheers!

My Envy Notebook is having difficulty with recieving wireless signals at a reasonalbe distance from the wireless router.  When the computer is in the same room as the router everthing is OK, but at 50 feet away, it works intermittenly even though the wireless properties show 4 bars out of 5 at that distance. I have replaced my old wireless router with a Netgear AC1900, a very highly rated wireless router and the problem did not change. I have read about all the problems with the Intel N2230 wireless card and I don't seem to have those problems. Should I replace the wireless card?   I would like to know what other wireless cards are compatible with this notebook just in case it it an N2230 issue. The serial number of the Envy is 5CG3412DV8
