My laptop probably suffered some damage within the couple years that I have had it but never had any running problems with my baby. I recently went to turn my computer on and the screen stayed black. The fan is still running and LED lights are still lit so I do not know what the problem is. I think it could be the monitor but I do not have an external monitor to test it on. I know that I am running on the Windows 10 OS but I am not sure if it is 32-bit or 64-bit
Try a hard reset. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768 Without an external monitor it is going to be hard to test if it is the screen panel. Do you see the hard drive light blinking like there is activity? Do you hear sounds? Can you get into the BIOS (F10) or diagnostics (F2) as you power up?1 more replies

I've left it hoping it'll just get to 100% and open to the desk top but it just isn't happening!!This happened to anyone else before? And how did you resolve it! Any help will be appreciated so much!!!!Thank,Chels
ChelsHoll16 Without the PC model number, there's no way I can tell if your PC came preinstalled with Win10, or if you did an Upgrade from a prior OS. If you did the Upgrade, that is known to trash the HP Recovery information in the process, such that no HP recovery will work properly after that. If it came preinstalled with Win10, while his PC is still under warranty, you should contact HP Customer Support directly to have them put you in touch with HP Technical Support to see what they can do about diagnosing and repairing your machine remotely.I did this recently and the HP Tech was able to remotely access my PC from the Internet and do the needed repairs. If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.htmlNOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while! I am wanting to change my factory Wireless card from only 2.4 ghz to a dual band or a AC wireless card. I don't know for sure if my pc is white-listed or not. I really hate the slow speed of 2.4 ghz. Can anyone PLEASE help me ?
There never has been a 100% reliable list of what is past the whitelist but based on your hardware and the 2104 copyright on the service manaul, you are past the whitelist. The big problem you may still have is that your laptop series often only has one w-fi antenna. If so it is basically impossible to upgrade to a dual band card. The only way to know for sure if you have a single antenna is to open it up. Service Manual See p. 51. If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.5 more replies

Can you take it back? If you can, run don't walk and beg them to give you your money back and buy a computer with a real processor and a decent amount of memory, and some storage. That laptop has the Celeron N3050 and 2 gigs of non-upgradeable RAM, and a puny 32 gig hard drive which also cannot be upgraded, which is just rubbish. I mean it is $265US which will not buy a decent cell phone. It is a dirty secret and not popular to hear but the computer market is a race to the bottom; everybody trying to sell computers as cheap as possible and to do so corners must be cut and that computer is a circle. No corners at all.2 more replies

I read somewehere that it could help, but elsewehere i read that things like this are just myths. So can anybody help me on this? I have little to no knowledge about graphic cards in general, so i have to do some more research about it myself. Money is not really a problem, but i like to avoid spending huge amounts for this. Thanks in advance.

Why spending money to buy a PORTABLE laprop then put it with a eGPU when only need around that amount of money to buy a better desktop. For eGPU, please look at this: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2984716/laptop-computers/how-to-transform-your-laptop-into-a-gaming-p... My suggestion: please stop thinking about upgrading GPU for normal laptops. We can only upgrade GPU on SOME, not all, workstation class laptops and they cost up to 5 times our normal laptop. If money is not a concern, buy a REAL games laptop could be simpler and nicer. HP has some Omen machines (not Pavilion gaming machine), other vendors also have some. Regards.1 more replies

Hi, The 24 character error code is a failure of the short Disk Self Test ( DST ) and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced. This is also consistent with the boot issue you describe. If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - If needed, you can check your warranty status Here. If you live in the US, contact HP Here. If you are in another part of the world, start Here. If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know. Regards, DP-K1 more replies

Hi, Try the following. First of all, remove any devices connected to the notebook, including the headset. Download the Realtek HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72090.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete,, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, restart the notebook and let windows fully load for a few minutes before ... Read more2 more replies

Hi, There are few things I would like to say: 1. The machine does not have VGA port. It has ? 2 SuperSpeed USB 3.0? 1 Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0? 1 HDMI? 1 RJ-45 (LAN)? 1 Headphone-out/microphone-in combo jack That HDMI port is for you to connect to an external BIGger monitor for you to enjoy games if you wish. 2. Not true, I connect to external monitors nearly all my laptops . Playing games on a laptop can always cause "overheating", no matter what. Regards.1 more replies

Recently purchased a new HP Laptop and I am in the process of uninstalling unnecessary software that was added by HP, (bloatware as some call it) but this is the first time I have seen Energy Star Software. I have had many HP computers and my 1 year old HP desktop did not come with Energy Star Software so it?s either a new item or more specific to laptops or tablets. I have searched the net but can?t lock in on specifically what it does, obviously something to do with power configurations but everything I have read indicates that it is not needed and can be uninstalled without problems. I intend to uninstall this software but I would like to determine if it has any benefit and then decide for myself if I want to keep it. Also, I did find one reference that said it might be difficult to uninstall from the Programs & Features page which would not surprise me because some of the other junk HP installs has a history of leaving things behind after uninstall. So, can anyone give me any details about Energy Star Software and can it be uninstalled without problems? Thanks
@gator2013 In answer to your questions about EnergyStar, and the HP EnergyStar software: HP Energy Star Software: The program provides the ENERGY STAR Qualified Power Plan. ENERGY STAR is a program to promote superior energy efficiency. This package provides ENERGY STAR compliant power options. And you can look at the details of the government certification as part of the Clean Air Act, below: About ENERGY STAR - energystar.gov How a Product Earns the ENERGY STAR Label -energystar.gov So essentially, it is a configuration providing for more energy efficiency in operation to reduce power consumption, and indirectly carbon emissions and also to save you money. I hope this helps.4 more replies

I recently purchased a new HP Laptop and am in the process of uninstalling all the HP bloatware. I am fairly familiar with the stuff HP adds but this Energy Star software is a new one. I have a 1yo HP Desktop and it wasn?t there when I got it new a year ago.
I have Googled it and read what is out there but I still can?t lock in on what it actually does. It seems to provide some power configurations from what I have read. I did see one reference that said it might be difficult to remove through Programs & Features and while that doesn?t bother me as I do all software removal with REVO Pro Uninstaller, I know from previous experience that some of the HP add-ons can be difficult to completely uninstall.
Looking for some feedback from anyone that has actually uninstalled this software.
Thanks In Advance
After hunting around more today I still could not find any specific info as to what this software actually does. This morning I even posted the question on the HP Support Forum and have had zero replies and that is the HP Support Forum so I am inclined to think that it doesn't do much if anything.
The uninstall with REVO Pro Uninstaller was too quick for it to be much of a program and I have not seen any changes or a hint of a problem.

Hi, I have an HP All in one PC 20-e014 (Energy Star) Since purchasing it, I have installed a few programs (aol for email, skype, and Rosetta Stone for Spanish). Last week I recevied an altert telling me to create recovery media. I went with the 3 DVD option and successfully downloaded the files for **bleep** 1. Using the exact same DVDs (capable of holding 8.5 GB), I tried and tried and tried to complete **bleep** 2. One of the disks actully loaded 100% of the data and then kicked out the **bleep** before the image was varified (down load failed). My computer tells me to retry the download for disk 2 - but I can't find any DVDs with a capacity over 8.5 GB. The Rosetta Stone program is roughly 22,500 KB big and the biggest program I have added to my system since purchase. So, will it do me any good to delete the Rosetta Stone progam and retry the download for disk 2 or am I just bumping my head against a wall? Please let me know, KirkMore replies

My HP Spectre x360 - 13-4110nd (ENERGY STAR) is suddenly very slow. Yesterday there was nothing wrong. Today I started the notebook and it was immediately very slow. I did not install any new drivers or software.I have run UserBechmark with these results: ?PC Performing way below expectations??Processor: 6.18% is an extremely low Desktop CPU score, this CPU can barely handle email and light web browsing. Finally, with a gaming score of 5.53%, this CPUs suitability for 3D gaming is terrible.? Does anybody know what can be the cause of this and how to resolve this ? Thanks.More replies
Hi I have the HP Notebook - 15-r150sa (ENERGY STAR) laptop from brand new. Was factory installed with Windows 8.1 I believe. I have upgraded to Windows 10 64 bit, but I would like to go back to the original Windows that it was originally installed with if possible. Please note, I bought this laptop from brand new from a reputable retailer in the UK, but it did not come with any installation disk or anything like that. If I press F11 during start up, all of the reset/recovery options ask me to insert a disk which I dont have and wasn't supplied. Also all of the options before asking for a disk only offered Windows 10 as a start point. I cannot roll back to original windows as 30 days has passed, and there is no option to do anything else. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Recently my hardrive failed on my hp laptop, I return it to the store still under warranty and they send it off to be repaired by know how. I got the laptop back yesterday and some paperwork saying the hardrive had been replaced, the laptop was already running when it arrived and I got straight into using it for about an hour before it crashed (windows 10 screen about encountering a problem and the device needing to restart) when the the device restarted it was stuck indefinitely on the hp loading screen (nothing but the hp logo and the spinning white circle) and so I turned it off again after a while, removed the battery and held the power button to drain any left over power and tried again. This time I got the hp logo and "attempting automatic repair" text but after about 10 seconds it goes to a black screen and nothing happens. I decided to try and restore to factory settings, I turn the device off and back on again and pressed f11 to boot to the recovery manager, the text appeared in the bottom left corner to say the device had registered that I was pressing the button but then the screen goes black and nothing happens again. I launched to the BIOS menu next and reset all the settings to the default and tried once more but nothing happened once again. one final attempt and I decided to run a extensive system test, the device failed on the hard drive short DST test with the failure ID UC097X-83D89R-XD7WLK-60R003 im really ho... Good morning to all, I have bought a new laptop "HP - 15-ay007nl (ENERGY STAR) (X0L37EA)". On HP support site the Video card listed is the "AMD Radeon? R5 M430", but with the actual AMD driver the video card mounted is "AMD Radeon? R5 M330" as you can see on the attached picture (sorry for the Italian language). Do you know if it is a problem linked to the Hardware (the M330 is mounted instead the M430) or to the Software (driver mismatching)? Thank you very much for the info!More replies

So essentially i spilt some coke on my keyboard and now some of the keys are sticky and the laptop screen is a bit dirty. (The keys in question being the 4, 5, 6, 7, r,t, y, u, f4, f5, f6, and f7). After a bit of research I worked out that to fix the screen I could just get some special wipes (unless anyone reccomends anything else?) However to fix the sticky key stituation: I would need to remove the keys, put the keys in some washing up liquid, clean out where the keys were with special alcohol and q-tips. Unfortunately, upon trying to remove the keys they didnt seem to come out very easily. I was so worried of breaking the keys in the end I left them in. In short how do I remove the keys and does anyone have any tips on cleaning spilt coke?

Hi, I have just bought a HP Star Wars special edition notebook with Windows 10 preinstalled. On the initial setup, I accidentally typed in my name wrong in the User account setup. (The keys are in a slightly different place on this keyboard to my old one and when I tried to hit 'backspace', I hit 'enter' instead and it moved onto the next page with no option to go back a page!) Anyway, I have changed my user account name to the one I want now but the user folder (C:\Users\) still has the incorrect name. I have read a few ways of solving this on here and decided that due to this being a new computer that I've made hardly any changes to it might be easiest to just reset the system and start again.
My question is this - because this computer is a special edition which came with lots of Star Wars content, if I do a full reset, will it reset with the content still intact, or will it wipe all the Star Wars content and reset to a 'normal' version of Windows 10?
Thanks in advance for your help.
There's no need to reset the laptop. Simply create a new user account for you, change its account type to administrator (all new accounts after the first initial one are standard accounts when created), sign out from the original account, sign in to your new account and finally remove the original account. Takes a few minutes, much faster than a full reset.
Step 1, create a new user account: User Account - Add in Windows 10 - Windows 10 ForumsStep 2, change the new account's type to Administrator: Account Type - Change in Windows 10 - Windows 10 ForumsStep 3, remove the original account: User Account - Delete in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
I cleared all the files from my laptop and now when i start it up it says "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation." When i click OK and it restarts to do the install the same message comes up and i cannot do anything else besides keep clicking OK. What exactly do i do about this?
kfull Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about installing Windows and wanted to help -- but need more information. First off, WHY are you trying to install Windows? If this is because you are trying to reset the laptop due to problems, we need to know that. Second, what version of Windows are you trying to install? Third, please follow these instructions for providing the detailed product number of your laptop: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0001We can proceed once you provide the information.Thanks1 more replies

Hi, Try to run a diagnostic test Turn your computer offthen turn it back on and keep on tapping on ESCLook for Diagnostics F2Look for component test, Hard drive test, then click quick check then run once. It will then check your computer's hard drive. After the test it should give you a result if the hard drive pass or fail with a failure id number If the computer pass. Try running malwarebytes to your computer (I know that the antivirus of your computer is updated but we wanted to check if there are virus infection present) Try downloading bios update. Please refer here on how to install the bios update http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/randomly-shuts-down/m-p/5603375... Note: Please disable your computer's log in password just to make sure you won't encounter any locked up issues after bios update by going to RUN then type netplwiz then uncheck the box click apply then enter your password and re enter it (Just dont mind the user)

I have made back up discs when i bought this pc, But with the Windows 10 , I am not given the choice to do a Restore. My PC keeps flashing on alot of the pages, Im running Norton security and Malware Bytes, and nothing has been found. I need to find a way to restore this back to the way it was when i bought it. bought in 2013 , and it had windows 8 , 64 bit. Thank you Dee33
Dee33 If you did the Win10 Upgrade and are now trying to revert back to Wion8, I have some bad news for you. While Microsoft tells you that there is no risk in the Win10 Upgrade, because they let you believe that you can always revert back to your original OS and setup within 30 days, the ugly fact of the matter is that the Win10 GoBack function has proven to be unreliable -- and when it fails, it can leave machines in a corrupted state -- which doesn't always happen, but it does happen often enough to be a problem and you won't get any warning in advance that it is going to trash your PC!The Win10 Upgrade is know, in some cases, to corrupt the Recovery partition stored there by the OEM that built the original machine. This pretty much guarantees that no HP Recovery is going to work. So, any attempt to use F11 to do a restore is doomed to failure. Are you trying to use the Recovery Disks, by booting from the first one, and they are not working? If so, what is happening when you try to use them? We can proceed once you provide the information.Thanks1 more replies
i need to know if it is normal for a fan to be turn on all the time on a hp 2000 notebook?
Depends on the settings. You can change it to be always on or always off via the bios, or the system settings in windows. But if you set it to always off, the fan will turn on either way if the cpu gets over 70c2 more replies

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue. The above requested information can be found on the bottom of your computer or inside the battery compartment. Please do not include your serial number. It will be necessary to set the SATA settings in BIOS to IDE mode. If your computer doesn't support this option, you will need to "slipstream" SATA / AHCI drivers into the Windows XP disc using a utility such as nLite OS.
