Will a Dell xps 430 motherboard work in a Dell xps 420?

Q: Will a Dell xps 430 motherboard work in a Dell xps 420?

I am asking if a Dell xps 430 motherboard will work in my 420. The cases look identical.
The reason I am considering this is to get DDR3 Ram so as to have a faster computer.
My 420 is DDR2 and the 430 is DDR3
Anybody ever do the swap?

Would Dell Factory restore DVDS work after Dell replaced the motherboard? I haven't tried it because I have the dell re-installation disk, just wondered if I ever need to get rid of this computer. I am planning on keeping the computer as long as possible. Just for information no activation was required. I didn't have to use the OEM key on the back of the computer.

A:Would Dell Factory restore work after Dell replaced the motherboard?

With dell's the key is intergrated with the os. If they replaced with same motherboard then I do not see why it wouldn't.

I want to change the motherboard and possibly the processor of my Dell Dimension 4700 with its P4 3Ghz Processor.

I am not sure if I can stretch to a new processor (though if I could I would want an Athlon 64 X2) but I would like to know what motherboards would be compatible with the P4 I currently have... I would preferbly like something with SLI so I can have that as an option in the future.

Please let me know! Thanks!

I bought my Dell Vostro 3800 ST almost 2 years ago, sadly I didn't really do my research before I bought it, and it turns out, card that came with it wasn't really great for gaming and it's nearing the end of it's life.
So I'm planning to buy proper card, but my tower is waaay to slim to fit in it comfortably.
So my question is, will I be able to take my motherboard to another, non-Dell case? If so, what type of case would be good? I did try to find online, what type of motherboard it is, but if there's an answer to that question, I can't find or understand it.
I'd be grateful for any help provided :)

A:Will my motherboard from Dell Vostro 3800 ST fit into non-Dell case?

It's more or less a micro-ATX board so it will likely fit a standard case.  That said, wiring the power switch, hard drive LEDs, etc. will be difficult - they're not standard and it may be a lot of trial and error to make work.

TL;DR: I would like to try to replace the Dell XPS 720 mobo with one from another mobo-maker. Hence, does anyone know of any OTHER such manufacturer's mobo that would meet the specifications of, and be equivalent to, the design configuration and physical layout of the Dell XPS 720 mobo?

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6850 (4MB L2 Cache,3.0GHz,1333 FSB)
4 GB Corsair Dominator DDR2 SDRAM 800MHz OC'd to 1066MHz (4 DIMMs)
512MB Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT
BTX Motherboard, Vista 32-bit premium

I'm garbage at telling if these parts are compatible with certain mobos. I'd like to switch to the ATX form factor.

Also, I'm thinking about throwing another GPU in there in SLI configuration. Here's what my card looks like:

For SLI purposes, would it matter what manufacturer I buy the 8800gt from if it is the same architecture as the one pictured above?... which I believe is made by EVGA, but I'm not really sure.

Would any of you please tell me where to find the proper 64-bit drivers to use on a Dell Inspiron 531S?

The official Dell website does not share drivers for that edition of XP. My computer came with Ubuntu pre-installed. Please help me get the right drivers XP Pro (64-bit).

The only reason why I'm searching for 64-bit drivers for XP is because I have no interest in using Windows Vista or any 32-bit operating systems from Microsoft. Like I mentioned before, the Dell website is not offering the proper drivers I need for this computer and the Windows XP (64-bit).

I've read articles about getting 64-bit drivers to work on that computer, but I haven't found any website that offers the same drivers. I'm basically on my own, according to this Dell expert (see below). That person told me about the drivers without sharing 1 single link to download the 64-bit drivers (or chipset) for XP, which he/she mentioned:
Dell does not support 64 bit in that model and the reason there are no drivers. You are basically "on your own" to try and find suitable drivers.

However, if you installed the Chipset drivers, Windows should either install a generic driver or find suitable drivers.

The correct install sequence is (1) Install Windows (2) Install chipset driver (3) Install Device Drivers.

On Intel systems the chipset drivers define what is on or attached to the motherboard. I assume the AMD drivers do the same thing.Click to expand...

A:Dell site won't help me. How do you get XP Pro (64bit) to work on Dell 531S?

Hi there

The very best database for drivers is . You need to create a free account to gain access.

What the tech suggested was installing enough drivers to get your networking to work and then letting Windows find all the missing drivers automatically using the now working internet by selecting the option "search for drivers automatically" when installing the devices through the add/remove hardware applet in the Control Panel.

After doing a clean install of my computer about a week ago (Windows XP Home Edition) my Dell speakers won't work at all, in WMP and on websites, such as YouTube. I installed the driver from Dell Support but they still don't work. Everything is plugged in properly and the green light on the right speaker goes on, but no sound at all comes out. NOTHING. I looked around in Audio settings and everything seems to be in place. The speakers aren't muted or anything. Could someone please help me solve this problem? Thanks!

Check your connections again. We've all plugged in the PC connection to the wrong port from time to time.
If that's not the problem, uninstall the driver in Device Manager and reinstall.

I have the Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop, with the Intel 915GMS/910GML chipset (according to CPU-Z). It uses socket 479 and the stock FSB is 400Mhz. I want to upgrade the Celeron M 370 CPU to a more powerful CPU (eg. a Pentium M). I was wondering whether ANY socket 479 CPU will work with this motherboard or only Pentium M and Celeron M? There are Intel Celeron M, Pentium M, Core Solo, Core Duo, Core 2 Duo processors (older model "Merom") that use the 479 socket.

Will any of these socket 479 CPUs work with this motherboard?

Also a lot (if not all) of the current socket 479 CPUs have a rated FSB of 667Mhz (even the Pentium M (which would work on this motherboard for sure). If I was to install a Pentium M with FSB667Mhz would it run at 667Mhz FSB or would it be underclocked to 400Mhz FSB?

Hi all,

I've done a bit of searching on the forums, none of which specifically answered my questions but I apologise if i'm asking something which has been asked before.

Anyway, a few weeks ago I bought a Dell Dimension 2400 desktop PC with the hope of gutting it and upgrading everything over a period of time but, without doing research beforehand, I have now come to realise that you can't just replace the current Dell motherboard with any old motherboard, or so it seems.

From what I've seen on this forum and other websites, I think it's a Micro ATX motherboard inside and from what I've heard you can't replace it with a 'Non Dell' motherboard. Is this correct?

If it is, what is my best option? Just scrap the Dell pc and buy a new case?

A:Dell motherboard upgrade

The dim 2400 was a very low end computer and case. Ditch the case and Mobo, you may be able to use the other components but not worth the effort IMHO

My 2710 went dark after switching SATA MODE in BIOS.  I tried every tip listed here but still can't get to the BIOS, I think my mobo is bricked so, I need to find a reasonably priced replacement.  Dell wants $550, any other alternative around for around $200?

A:Need Dell One XPS 2710 Motherboard

Power supply is good. Problem was as suspected in the BIOS. I managed to flash it with a working one, thanks to the help of a friend with good soldering skills. Indeed the holes i was talking about in my last post are made for accessing the bios chip without extracting it. The process wasn't easy but we did it!! So now the computer is back to life!! :DD Tat was the good news. The bad news is that it looks like the windows 8 key was embedded in the old rom file (of that file I made a backup for safety, but i cannot read it), so i cannot install my legally owned copy of windows because i cannot get the key. By asking help from DELL, the only answer i got was "you must consider yourself lucky, you managed to revive your computer. that's already a lot. So NO, we won't help you, you must buy yourself another copy of windows." . I had Windows 8 "customer" (whatever it means).
So, don't lose hope, except in DELL. ;)

A:Dell Motherboard e210882

E210882 is not a model number, that is the UL file number.

Since you need to know what motherboard you have go here;

and download SIW Standalone. This is an executable that doesn't have to be installed on your machine. Just download it to the desktop and launch the application. After the application launches click on Motherboard in the left pane, and when the right hand side pane opens see what information it gives you for the board. Post the Motherboard Information. We may be able to figure out which board it is from the information provided.

If you want to delete SIW Standalone just right click on the desktop icon and delete it. You may want to keep it since it is handy for finding information for your machine.

Or do you think that it would just not activate maybe?
If so, im aware that i would have to buy a full version of Windows 7 and the price seems to vary from one seller to another, can anyone recommend the cheapest place to buy it?

Actually to make the matter more complicated here is the scenario , I currently have Vista installed on the Dell machine but i intend to move the hard drive to the new motherboard with Vista on it. This message a close parallel to a previous topic: Drive Bay Power Supply w/ Dell mobo?

My E520 came with a 7300 LE video card. The Dell website suggested the EVGA 9500GT 1gb video card as an upgrade. It didn't work - result: PSU fan noise and blank screen.

Figuring that EVGA was serious about the minimum 350 watt PSU, I installed a 600 watt Cooler Master. The install went well. Fan noise dropped dramatically, until I added the the 9500 GT - then I got the same result as before: PSU fan noise and blank screen.

Finally, I called EVGA. The tech rep had me searching for the four-pin power connector on the motherboard. Due to a miscommunication, I plugged a 6 pin PSU connector into an empty socket on the mobo, which turned out to be the connector for an optional media card reader. Power was applied. Now, the "flea power" indicator on the motherboard responds with a yellow light when power is applied.

That yellow light is now the only thing my E520 will do in response to power. It doesn't post. There is no initial whir of the PSU fan - nothing - except the little yellow light. I've gone through the process of removing expansion cards, hard drives, memory, etc. I swapped out the CMOS battery and tried using the original PSU. Still, nothing but the yellow light. Lesson: don't mess with electricity while on the phone.

From what I've read on this site (the aforementioned: Drive Bay Power Supply w/ Dell mobo?), due to the... Read more

There is every reason to believe your motherboard might be fried.
But to know for sure, you need to remove everything from the board, then do a basic reinstall...

I would test with the old setup, original hard drive, original power supply.. and keep all the new stuff off it for now.

Hi. I have a problem with my laptop- the screen doesn't come on. I have tried many things and it has not worked.
On christmas eve my computer automatically went into sleep mode. The next day it wouldn't wake up. It sounded like it was waking up- the cd spun, the fan whirled. The screen did nothing. I noticed the NUM lock was flashing. I brought it to a repair shop and they told me the motherboard was bad and it may cost $500 to fix it. I replaced it myself with a refurbished one off ebay. The computer came on and then wanted to go through the diagnostic/memory tests and I let it. About half way through, the computer locked up. I forced it to shut down, and then it did what it was doing before: no screen, all fan and cd drive noises, this time the CAPS lock light flashed. I found out that it could be a memory problem that gives this flashing light, but reseating and trying other combinations did not work. I brought it to the repair shop, and they put a different stick of memory in and it didn't help. He suggested it may be the memory controller, which again, was a motherboard issue. I exchanged the motherboard and installed it yesterday. The computer came up just like it was when I shut it went to sleep and everthing was fine. For at least a 1/2 hour, and then it locked up again and now the screen is dark and the CAPS lock light flashes. Does anybody have any ideas? This computer is still worth something- just not $529 for dell to fix it. Any ideas are greatly ... Read more

Hi everyone. I've been reading up on Microsofts licensing schemes and I thought I understood them, but now I have a situation that I don't quite understand and I could use some help. So I got my hands on a used Dell PC that had a Windows 7 Pro 64bit COA sticker key on it. I also received the installation DVDs with the setup. I thought that this type of setup falls in the OEM licensing scheme and is tied to the motherboard. I didn't think the key would work on a new motherboard until I installed a new motherboard, a different motherboard (make and model) to the system and after reinstalling Windows 7 with the DVD, key activated just fine. I didn't think it would and this puzzles me. Why exactly did the key work? Is it maybe not an OEM key?

Machine was bought in Germany, and I'm from Croatia, if that makes a difference. I read online that EU has different laws and product key reselling was made legal or something like that, is this the reason why key worked, even though it's on new hardware (motherboard)?

A:Windows 7 key from a Dell machine on a new motherboard

You are lucky. Legally you cannot use an OEM key with a different motherboard (which is the same as a different PC).

Newbie here. My Dell C600 laptop burned up its power jack (common problem). I got a cheapo system board on Ebay, swapped it out, and on powering up, got this: "Processor start failure. The revision of motherboard does not support the processor installed." I know the processor is good (it's a P3, 700 mhz), because I swapped back to my original system board, powered it up on battery, and it works fine. I've googled all over the place and I can't find any data on system board/cpu compatability. The new board is p/n 0002UH, rev. A09. I was able to find that its BIOS version was A16, whereas the BIOS on my original board is A22. Maybe this has something do with what CPU the board needs, but I can't flash an updated BIOS without a working system. Catch 22. I considered trying to re-solder the power jack to the motherboard, but it's encased in a riveted metal shroud. So...Can anybody tell me what CPU would be supported by a 0002UH version A09 board? Any help would be much appreciated.

A:Dell C600 motherboard/cpu compatability

well my first cpu system was a dell too. although it always ran pretty fun i dislike the "unmodular" prebuilt distributor policies..

recently i tried to download a driver for my dell p991 sony trinitron monitor (which has red color difficulties by the way.. and diagonal lines showing up)
from dell and noticed they cant be found anywhere.. i was lucky to find an uncommercial driver page (with registration though) with a monitor driver for all dell PXX series. thats what i call customer service. (ironical)

also i you ever happen to find yourself getting some parts out of a dell case which is screwed and un-openable, smashing it against walls.. and working it with a hammer and other tools.. you will b asking yourself if dell is cool or not.

have you tried entering your modell/order number (usually on a sticker somewhere on the case) on the dell super customer support site?

dont have any other idea in mind atm. sorry..

Dear Sir;

I am building a new computer, I am using a used Dell OptiPlex GX280 motherboard. And all the specifications I have found say to use a Pentium 4 processor 530 (3.0GHz, 1M, 800Mhz).

I found one on eBay and received it yesterday.

But the socket on the motherboard has more pin holes than the processor has pins. On the motherboard the socket is marked (Foxconn C-3598). If I plug in the CPU into the socket, there is extra holes along the side and the bottom.

Does (or will) this processor fit and work in this socket?

ok a family members computer was what she was told lightning killed the mother board we ordered a replacement i just installed it, it will now power (it didnt even do that before) but it is like a half power, The light on front stays solid amber. i can feel fan and hear running but its like it wont boot. Computer screen stays black... Any ideas??? Thank you kindly

A:Installed new motherboard on dell 4700 please help

If lightning killed the motherboard it probably also took out the power supply. A PSU can still work when it's fried but the output voltages could be wrong (which can fry an new motherboard). Who knows what other components have been fried as well. Your best bet is to replace the psu and take the system down to the bare necessities (CPU, ram , motherboard, video [if not integrated]) and add other components one at a time. if a component causes a problem it's bad. If the system will not even POST with just CPU, ram and motherboard one or more of those components is bad (you can try swapping these out if you have extra parts).

hi guys,
i'm wondering if dell's motherboard could affect ati 4850 in-game performance(low fps on any settings and serious lags after 30 minutes of gameplay)?
i've made some sort of investigation and it seems that:1)after video drivers update there's still issue with ingame performance(fps mainly).it doens't matter what settings i play,it's still there;2)i've compared my gaming system with some other more or less similar ones which are owned by my bro and friend.they could play any 09' game on max settings with high fps.their systems are custom built ones;3)i've read through different tech forums and it seems that some xps owners are not happy with their systems,at least with motherboards.

I presume that card is on a PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot. The issue could well be your PSU. What are the exact specs of your PC?

I have two 730x computers where the motherboard has gone bad.  They are both out of warranty.  I am looking to replace/upgrade one or both (instead of building one from scratch or having one built or buying premade).
I understand the 730x uses the ATX form so I am looking at something along the lines of a GIGABYTE GA-X99-UD4 LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard.
First, will this work?  Second, any guidance and/or advise on proceeding would be greatly appreciated.  I haven't played around with building/upgrading computers in quite a few years.
Many thanks,

Its not ATX and its not standard and the control panel and other pinouts are not documented. So No it won't work.  The processor is not LGA 2011 either.

intel core i5 3.2GHZ turbo
intel 6GB/s 120GB SSD
512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 540v

as you can see, my graphics card is the real bottleneck in my system... so ive been wanting to upgrade it. well since its a laptop, the only way to do it is to buy a new mother board.

when i bought my computer, i had the option of either 512mb ati or a 1GB ati graphics cards. money was tight at the time, so i chose the 512.

now my question is, what mother board do i need to be replaced with? like i search on ebay, but cant find the 1gb graphics, nor if anything i do find will fit and support and fit. i have the 1st gen i5, so it has to be that socket type. anyone know the board number i need? ive looked on dell website, but cant figure out what model studio im looking for...

You should be able to upgrade the motherboard to a discrete one. In addition to the parts mentioned above, an upgraded 90W ac adapter might also be required if you are going to use a dual core CPU with your system or a 130W ac adapter if you are using a Quad core processor.

What luck.

I'm in the same boat with a different problem. All the USB ports on a 9150 died after some sporadic failures. Of course there are no PS2 ports. Couldn't even get into BIOS even after CMOS reset. Finally replaced the mobo with a new 9100 model. Apparently the chipset is different enough that as soon as Windows loads the USB driver, they all shut off again. At least I can get into bios. Linux live CDs and a win install disk works fine. I can't use the pathetic recovery partition with bad USB drivers and I can't repair install from retail Win XP disk without a retail key. Would like to do this legitimately.

My spare Dell OptiPlex 780 MiniTower has a Dell 0C27VV motherboard (see below thumbnail).

The top 2 SATA ports are blue and black.

The bottom 2 SATA ports are white and black.

The original hard drive is connected to the dark blue port.

The original disc drive is connected to the bottom white port.

I plan to install a second hard drive and run a different Windows version in each one.

I'm not sure if I need to connect it to the top or bottom black port.

Can you also advise how to determine their number sequence?

I can't find anything that confirms which ports are SATA-0, SATA-1, SATA-2, SATA-3.

I'm looking for some detailed specs for a Dell Dimension 8400 motherboard (my friend's system). Specifically, the system for no apparent reason could not be powered on.

The power supply checks out pretty decent, voltages are within specs. So I figure either the power switch or motherboard is bad.

Most of the generic instructions available for jumping motherboards refer to a two-pin momentary switch connection labeled PWR, or PWR_BTN. The problem is, on this board, there's a "front-panel connector" with around 30 or so pins, and a flat cable going to the front panel lights, power switch, etc. The power switch itself is fairly inaccessible, and I don't see any instructions provided showing how to remove it.

The cable can be easily removed from the motherboard. Where can I find out which of the 30 pins are the correct ones for starting the power-on sequence? Just my luck, the Dell Support Forum website has been down the last few days.

Thank you for any ideas!

Is there a Dell Manual for the motherboards they make? Thats all I need

I took apart this DELL and put it in a new case, suprisingly it was a microATX in a desktop case. So I was glad I could use my extra case.

I dont have a manual for the dell nor do I think they gave me one ever (2 years old approx.).
Its a Dimension 3000 P4 2.8Ghz. I dont know if there is any way to find information on where the plugs go or not but I figure Id ask.

The plugs are colorized so the USB is easy to find, dont know about the audio entirely where each one goes (I can play with that).

I compared the wires I took out with the on/off switch and put the Power Plug into that switch but it doesnt work. I tried a bunch of different spots, i think i just have the wrong spot..

By the way, the DELL is working, and the case/psu is working.

A:20 pin power supply to dell 24 pin motherboard

Should work fine with the 20 pin, but there is another spot on your board for the other 4pin

the power supply should have 2 cables, the 20pin(or 24pin) and another cable with 4pin, both of those go in differnet spots,

and from what i know it shouldnt be a problem with the 20pin going in the 24pin.

I have a problem with a batch of Dell optiplex 980's, for some reason the Main boards fail at a alarming rate.

According to Dell it is the memory controller that fails.

Error Lights 1,3,4 are on nothing on screen, power led solid blue about 10 error beeps!

Dell tech replaced the main boards and all is fine for a while but same problem persists.

Also according to Dell level 6 tech, it could be over heating, I had some fun proving them wrong, two PC's sealed in a box , hammering them, Temp between 85 Celsius - 90 Celsius in the sealed enclosure, optical drive started melting, cooled the PC's for a day and powered back on, no problems!!

Does any one out there maybe have a issue similar to this on the optiplex 980, main board failures?

I have a Dell Dimension 8250 which I would like to upgrade. I want to install a new motherboard+cpu+memory+video card. However I'm not sure what type of board will fit into the system and what I should be looking for. I opened up the case and measured the dimensions of the motherboard but not sure what else I need to start looking for a new motherboard. I'm not looking to spend much money .... The main reason that I'm doing this is that when I bought my system 4 years ago, I made the mistake of going with RDRAM. Upgrading from 512 MB of RDRAM to anything decent is going to cost more than I want to spend just on memory. Any help would be much apprreciated.

Based on the pictures here:
It looks like a full size ATX motherboard. So any ATX board will fit. Might want to do a little research on your PSU/motherboard connector. I think Dell used to use a propriatary connector that won't work with non Dell motherboards but I'm not entirely sure. You'll almost certainly be dealing with a motherboard that takes a 24 pin connector now, and even if the Dell's isn't wired differently there is still a good chance it is a 20 pin, they make adapters though.

I have a Dell Optiplex 780 mini-tower.  It has the 0C27VV motherboard.

According to the Technical Guidebook for the Optiplex 780, this motherboard will support a Q9650 Core 2 Quad processor.  BUT there is this paragraph:
PROCESSORNOTE: Global Standard Products (GSP) are a subset of Dell’s relationship products that are managed for availability and synchro-nized transitions on a worldwide basis. They ensure the same platform is available for purchase globally. This allows customers to reduce the number of configurations managed on a worldwide basis, thereby reducing their costs. They also enable companies to implement global IT standards by locking in specific product configurations worldwide. The following GSP processors identified below will be made available to Dell customers.
In the associated table, under the Mini-Tower is the entry "X-GSP" --- what does that mean?
In other words, I'd like to know that if i purchase an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 processor, will it work in the 0C27VV motherboard?

I have a Dell M2N61-AX motherboard will not enter setup.
Every time I hit the F2 key to get into setup it says "entering Setup"
on the bottom of the screen but nothing happens. Any solutions to
this. I am wondering if I am using the proper type of memory
stick in the motherboard.

I removed & reinstall the battery hopping it would reset
the board but it did not solve the problem.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

My guess is the mobo is faulty - I've encountered that problem once before on a Dell and sure enough it was the motherboard.

I had to replace the motherboard in my Dell Inspiron 530. I got one that was pulled out of an Inspiron 530S. Now I need to change the service tag. Since my product is too old and Dell isn't able to help me, does anyone know a way so I can get the right service tag on my new motherboards?

I get the following warning just after the BIOS loads, on my Dell
Inspiron 8200:

WARNING: 70 Watt (20v,3.5A) AC adapter detected. System will not be
capable of running in full performance mode without a 90 watt (20V,
4.5A) AC adapter. Press F1 to continue in battery optimized mode, or
F2 to shut down.

However, I do _not_ have a 70 Watt adapter. I have two 90 Watt
adapters. Both are reasonably new (less than 3 months old i am sure it is working properly). There is
no pin damage on either the laptop or the adapters. I also get the same warning when I used a duck station.

I have flash to the previous Bios, turn down the intel speedstep in CMOS, and set the power management in Windows to Max as well but no helpful

would anyone have a idea to fix it

thank in advance

Hi, my dell dimension 2350 won't start up (at all). There is no sound whatsoever when I press the power button (the fan's don't run or anything). The only sign of life is when I have the power cord plugged into the computer the motherboard light turns on (green in color). Other than that, nothing. Instantly I thought it must be the power supply...but I bought a power supply replacement, installed it...and still nothing. I don't know what else it could be. I was thinking maybe the motherboard? but the motherboard looks fine visually (no broken capsules) and wouldn't the fan still run and the cd drive still be able to go in and out if the motherboard was damaged? I don't know...I'm out of guesses.

Also, the diagnostic lights on the front and back of the computer are not lighting up in any way.

Anyone have any ideas on what the issue might be?
Any help would be great....thanks!

hello guys, I think i had a power surge last night at home and two of my laptops died. My XPS LED lights will go on but fan wont spin and screen stays black. I took it apart, removed cmos battery left it unplugged for like an hour and still no luck with it.
I am guessing that the motherbard has been damaged with a power surge since my other laptop died and has the same exact problem.
Where can i find a replacement motherboard? Can i Install the i7 motherboard even tho my xps came with an i5? Does the heatsink and rest of the parts remain the same between the i5 and i7?

A:Dell XPS 13 L322X i5 need motherboard replacement in europe

You'll have to search for a local source.  The CPU is soldered to the mainboard, so it gets replaced with the board itself.
You can replace an i5 board with an i7.  The only caveat would be that systems having Intel-only GPUs generally use a different heatsink than those with hybrid Intel-nVidia or Intel-AMD GPUs.

I have a Dell Latitude E6530 and having a problem I have never seen before. I have two 9 cell batteries in it, one as the primary and other as a slice for the bottom. When the slice battery reaches 1% the laptop abruptly cuts off instead of switching to the primary battery. However, I can unplug the slice battery while the laptop is on with no problems occurring. I have ran all diagnostics tests I could find and each time everything passes. I have been told that the problem could be either the BIOS outdated or the motherboard. All drivers have been updated and the most current BIOS is installed. I would like to know if the motherboard is indeed the culprit or to see has anyone else had this problem before I buy a new motherboard. Thanks
