Why won't HP Elitebook/Ultrabook 9470m support multi-screen ...

Q: Why won't HP Elitebook/Ultrabook 9470m support multi-screen ...

Computer - HP Elitebook Folio 9470m OS - Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit Processor - Intel CORE i5-3427U CPU @ 1.80GHz 2.30 GHz Display adapter- Intel HD Graphics 4000 Anybody know why this unit won't support dual/multi-screen display? When the second, external monitor is connected by VGA to VGA, nothing happens on the Control Panel/Display/Change Resolution page. The drop-down box where mulit-screen display should be selectable offers only "1. Generic Non-PnP Monitor".....and nothing else. Thanks for any insight.Michael

Hi there, I have an issue with non-responsive Brightness Adjustment on my laptop.  Symptom is that brightness does not increase or decrease when adjusting the setting using the FN Key + F9/F10 which are the designated buttons to adjust. There is also no change when I unplug from power outlett (which in theory should make the screen brightness come down). I have installed the latest bio, and have tried looking for new software/drivers, but to no avail... I simply can't reduce the brightness (and it's quite bright - to the point it is uncomfortable to use at night). Suggestions how to handle?

I have an HP 9470m Elitebook that will not start up on a docking station. When starting up, it freezes on the "Please Wait" screen before login. I have tried it on 3 different docking stations with the same results. The BIOS are up to date. There is a driver update for the dock available, but it requires it to be plugged into to the dock, and when I dock the computer after start-up and try to install, I get the error message: ?Please connect at least one monitor to the dock and then continue.?  Unfortunately, this computer is also now just about 2 weeks out of warranty.

Hi,

I have two Acer 23 inch multi touch screens, being driven through a Matrox DualHead2Go. So the ATI graphics card thinks it is driving a single 2050 x 1080 monitor, the DualHead2Go then splits this across the two screens.

Will Windows 7 support multi touch across two screens?

Thanks.

Hello, I am looking to upgrade my laptop's wireless to wireless AC.  I am looking for a Mini PCI Express wireless AC card that is compatible with my system.  I heard that this laptop is only compatible with certain wireless cards and it will not work with wireless cards from intel.  Is that true??  Thanks.

A:Wireless Mini PCI Express Support for Elitebook 725 G2

I found a random forum post on http://forum.notebookreview.com/ of an owner of J5N82UT (one of the 725 G2 SKUs) who claims Intel AC7260 worked on his/her machine. I see 725 G2 are available from HP with one of the three WiFi options,Broadcom 802.11 a/b/g/n AC (2x2) and Bluetooth® 4.0Broadcom 802.11a/b/g/n (2x2) and Bluetooth® 4.0Atheros 802.11b/g/n (1x1) No Intel options there, but maybe it'll just work. Some(?) models of 725 G3 comes with Intel AC7265 from factory, like mine, but G3 is different from G2.Maybe HP BIOS already whitelists Intel adapters, even if some models aren't offered with them. I doubt HP would say anything one way or another.  You'll just have to try it. Update: I'd ignore the "expert" opinion below if you really want the Intel one.  Even with a little Googling, I see people complaining about Broadcom ones (Dell XPS, for example) and those people being happy with Intel ones after replacing it on their own. Maybe this is the same person who posted on notebookreview.com, but at least that person claims it works with 7260 AC according to this review: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834259147

Hello TSF community.
I am running a Dual-Monitor system, and I would like to know if there is a way have two applications running simultaneously. Such as having a Video Game open and on one screen, while being able to draw in Google Sketch-up. Currently, If i'm in a game and I click off the in-game screen, it will automatically minimize the program. Is there anyway to get around this in Windows 7?

A:Multi Monitor Support

Hi,

You won't be able to run a full-sized game on one screen and switch to another application on another screen. You can however run the game in maximized Windowed-mode, this should give the effect you're looking for.

My system is a Asus L1N84 WS SLI FX74 This system has two physical processors on it. So its two dual cores making it 4 cores.(this is the main focus of this thread being started)
I have had this system since vista was new.
When I biult this system I ordered a copy of Vista Home Premium

When I got it up and running I noticed that when I went to system info it said I had 2 processors. Well I called Asus and AMD and Microsoft. And all of them said that the reason I was seeing two processors is because I have two processors. Me not wanting to hear it did alot of research until I found one thing that told me I was just being told what they thought would get me off the phone with them. And I am having the same issue with Windows7 RC1

What I told them is that is not a good answer because my previous system said I had 2 processors and that system was an AMD 4200 X2
So it said 2 processors and it was just ONE dual core.

Not to mention that this board got a horrible write up against Intel which caused AMD to trash the whole 4x4 idea. Bad for them because this is one hell of a system with all four cores running. Which were not running during those benchmarks against the Intel quad 6700 at the time. Remember I said I installed Vista Home premium. Well it turned out while I was searching Microsofts web site I looked at the differences between Vista Home premium and ULTIMATE. There was my answer staring me right in the face.... Ultimate was the only version that had MULTI PHYSICAL C... Read more

Good Day everyone! I'm not sure if this has been discussed recently or not (searched but was unable to locate anything similar). I am running Win 10 x64 on a Folio 9470m.  Until recently (Anniversary update), I have had the ability to connect multi monitors (2 external + laptop screen), using 2 different style docking stations at different locations (I bounce between offices daily).  The docking stations used are the HP UltraSlim Docking Station (D9Y32AA), and an HP USB Docking Station w/ Video output. On the Ultra Slim, I am connecting using VGA and a Displayport to VGA adapter.  On the USB docking station w/ Video out, I am using DVI, and then the VGA port on the laptop itself. Until the anniversary update for 10, I had no problems with running the 2 external monitors, plus the laptop screen.  Unfortunately, the anniversary update seems to have broken that, using both docking stations.  Just to be clear, I have downloaded the most recent drivers, etc. Now, I know what everyone is gonna say, that I should have waited to install the update, but I couldn't resist (there were some new features I wanted to test out).  Other than wait for updated drivers (no ETA that I am aware of), and rolling back to a prior version of Win 10, does anyone else have any ideas?  I can work with the current setup (1 external monitor + laptop screen), but I would rather be able to use all 3...

A:touch pad multi gesture support

Ummm...you are a bit behind the times it seems. Windows 7 already has full Multi-touch support. You just need devices that are multi-touch aware/supportive. And applications also need to implement support themselves to get the full benefit.

Hey you guys. Building a new computer with an X2 AMD processor, and while reading up on the differences between XP Pro and XP Home I noticed this on a few sites:

From Microsofts site:
Scalable processor support – up to two-way multi-processor support.Click to expand...

From another site:
Multi-processor support - Windows XP Pro supports up to two microprocessors, while Home Edition supports only one.Click to expand...

Am I getting all of this wrong? Does it really mean that a dual core processor won't do crap when dealing with applications in Home, because it's not supported? Or are they talking about two actual processors connected into one computer?

I've been having problems with WinXP's multilingual filename support. I'm running an English version of WinXP SP2, and have all the required font installed. My default language for non-Unicode programs, as set in the control panel, is Japanese, and I have English, French, Japanese, Korean and Chinese (Trad and Simp) input method installed.

Very often (but not always), I will be unable to open some files that have non-English characters in the file name. This includes filenames with Chinese, Korean and Japanese 2-byte characters as well as alphabets with diacritics such as ? in French. But as I said, not all of these files are unopenable; only some characters seem to cause the problem.

When I try opening these files, I'll get a message "@#($.avi file not found" type of message, and it would seem that the filename passed along to the program are corrupted and thus cannot be found. The thing is that the programs I'm using to open these files theoretically support multi language operations. For example, if I try to open a file with these characters with BSPlayer, it might give me a not-found error. But if I drag these files into BSPlayer's playlist, they will run normally. I assume it's something wrong with Explorer's handling of the filenames.

This happens with several programs and several file types. However not all programs have problem opening complex filenames. For example the same file that causes problem with BSPlayer might be opened without in... Read more

hey guys, i'm thinking about buying a new PC from my current setup, which only has a single core.

i use VMWARE and was just curious if it makes use of more than one core? i'm thinking about buying an i3 dual core and was wondering how VMWARE divides up the cores if that makes sense?

if it's a dual core setup would VMWARE give itself one core and then one core for Windows 7?

would an i3 be enough by the way? i'm looking at the i3 530 and would be using the VMWARE window for light coding on Linux. no video editing or gaming. i have an A64 3000+, would this be a big step up?

I'm planning to buy a new PC with Windows 7 (English) and not sure what version I should buy. I need to be able to switch into Japanese language mode for writing Word documents and composing/reading email sometimes. I do not need the desktop, menus etc. to be displayed in Japanese, however. I've found some info on the Internet and MS web site but still confused:

1) I have read that LIPs can be installed on any version of Win 7 but looks like Japanese must be installed as a full install (no parent language). If this is the case, can I setup 2 user accounts and configure one for English and the other for Japanese?

2) Do I need to have Win 7 Ultimate or Enterprise edition to do what I want to do?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!

Hi everyone and thanks for reading.
I'm looking for thin/light (hence ultrabook, but it doesn't necessarily have to be an "ultrabook") laptop between 14 - 15.6 inches. There are only a few requirements.

First is that it has an SSD, because I want it to have quick resume from standby and/or hibernate. I've heard impressive comments on Samsung's quickresume or whatever it's called. SSD/HDD combos would be considered but not preferable.

A good screen with high resolution and nice colors. Something more than the standard 1366x768 LCD.

An efficient running system and ultimately good runtimes. No discreet GPU is preferred for price and runtime reasons. Integrated graphics are fine for me. Probably the best choice for this would be an ivy bridge dual core with HD4000.

Also, I'd like the least possible crapware, so I think I will not like an HP.
Price will be secondary but I think the cheapest 15 inch Samsung 9 series fulfills all these requirements fairly well, but is quite expensive, so that will be my maximum budget. Cheaper is better of course

Thanks for your help.

A:Ultrabook with a nice screen, SSD, and runtime

The Series 9 is a great choice for the price, it has a much better screen (1600x900 PLS matte) than those crappy 1366x768 ones on a lot of other ultrabooks.

Lenovo's new Thinkpad X1 Carbon is also an awesome machine but might be a bit more expensive.

There's probably a sticky for this somewhere or something, but I can't find it, so here goes.

Just got a new laptop which came with windows 8, It's an Asus Zenbook UX302LG. I tried Windows 8 a bit during the developer preview, but I'm really not that familiar with things, anywho. So this has a touch screen, and I've been using it a fair bit, but I'm curious about 8.1. Being the "newer" version", from what I've seen it has some improvements over regular 8 in some areas, like the apps screen looks a little tidier. What I'm wondering though is does it also remove some of the touch features I would be using with a touch screen? Or just make them more mouse friendly. Long story short, given I have a touch screen which I am using, should I upgrade to Windows 8.1? Or will I have a better experience with regular 8?

A:Windows 8 or 8.1 on Touch Screen Ultrabook

You should upgrade IMO. You certainly will not lose any touch capabilities.

Features shown in Compare Windows 8.1 Editions where it says (new) are not available on 8.

Hello, the computer I am currently using was bought from Best Buy and came with Windows XP. I know it's a legitimate copy because I've downloaded various utilities from the Microsoft website and it always has to verify my copy, but since my computer came with Windows XP installed, I do not have a Windows XP CD.

The problem is that I need many of the non-standard multi-lingual utilities that ask me to put in a Windows XP installation CD when I try to install them.

Specifically, in the language options menu, I'm trying to "Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages", and also "Install files for East Asian languages".

It seems like I should be able to get these files from the Microsoft website, but the website is so vast and I don't even know what the file names or anything are so I don't know where to search there.

How can I get these and other Microsoft language utilities installed without the installation CD?

If your touch screen is not responding to your touch, try this:try looking at Device Manager,  if there's a yellow-flagged item and/or no driver for touch screen under HID (human interface device)  then you have to add it. click on the yellow flag item, tell it to update driver from list from your computer,   go to Generic drivers, not the Acer ones, choose the one that's called HID touch screen,  update it,  restart, and there you go.check another post here on this forum,  from scotsman.  he gives the steps maybe a little better than I do..Acer tech supoort were useless, as usual,  and told me I had to do a Restore.  They are worse than useless, actually, since they waste tons of your time and then all they can tell you is to do a complete restore. When will Acer ever get decent tech support people? When you look at Amazon reviews, for example, under my particular laptop,  you find over a hundred reviews,  large percent being rather negative,  but you'll notice that it's mostly over bad experiences with Acer tech support.   and this is for a thousand dollar machine !!I personally believe that Acer makes good hardware but what's holding them back is their tech support:  it's horrible !!!

Hi Minelson,
To assist you further with this issue, I would request you to help me with the system model and the Operating system installed on the computer. In case you have windows 8 installed, you can try the following steps. 1. Restart the laptop and start tapping the F2 key at the Dell logo for enter the BIOS. 2. Navigate to the “Advanced” menu. 3. Change the SATA operation/selection in BIOS from Intel Smart Response to AHCI. 4. Press F10 to save changes and exit. 5. Reboot the system. 6. Go back into the BIOS by tapping the F2 key and change the SATA operation/selection in BIOS from AHCI to Intel Smart Response. 7. Save changes and exit by pressing the F10 key. 8. Reboot the system and it should boot normally into Windows. In case the above steps don’t fix the issue, run the Pre-Boot System Assessment (PSA / ePSA) Diagnostics. Run the test and check if gives any error code. Note down the error code and update me with the same, would let you know the next course of action. Please write back, would be glad to assist you further.

This is the third post I've made and around the 6th problem I've come across the past few days.

The problem I have now is when turning on my laptop it stays at the Dell logo for about 5 minutes before continuing to attempt to load windows, this is in UEFI mode. In legacy mode, it loads past the Dell logo in seconds, but this does not load windows.

I am trying to reinstall windows with the Dell windows 8 Home premium disk. When the disk finally loads, it just stays on a black screen, and I've left it for about an hour and it will not load.

I have tried using Hirens boot CD (USB) to load Mini windows xp, but that does exactly the same. I can load Linux from the usb but not windows. However, I have never used Linux so I cannot do anything in Linux to attempt to fix it, as I do not know what I'm doing inside Linux.

If someone could shine some light in this please let me know. It seems to be a UEFI problem.

Thanks in advance

So I have had this computer for a little over a year and a half and about 2 months ago my left hinge broke. I was out of the country studying abroad so there wasn't much I could do about it. After I got home I didnt have the time nor the money to fix it so I was just carefully opening and closing it. Well today when I opened it, the screen wouldn't light up. I really need to get it fixed fast because I am a full time college student and my classes depend on having a computer. What can I do? Oh I should say, it is not under the warranty anymore.Help please?

Greetings! I normally put my laptop to "Sleep" instead of shutting it down.  This morning, when I turned the laptop on, I had the log in screen, but everything was frozen; the cursor wouldn't move and the keyboard was not working.  I held the power button on until the laptop was shut down.  But, when I turned it back on, the screen would not come back on.  The lights blink but nothing happens. I removed the battery and the charger, held the power button down for a minute, put the battery back on, plugged in the charger, turned the laptop on, but no screen!  I did this several times but didn't have any luck.the hard drive light keeps blinking, the fan spinning, and the wireless and Num Lk keys toggle on/off.  Even the reading light on top of the screen is working. Any help would be appreciated. Sincerely,Reed

UPDATE:  I connected an external monitor and seems that the laptop is running, but there are errors.  When the system reboots, I get the blue screen of death!  Then, I get the option to repair errors.  The system goes through several minutes of processing and comes back with a message that it cannot automatically fix errors.  The bugcheck is 116 and error code is 490. I have not connected any new devices to the laptop for the past several weeks.  I am not sure where this error came from!  I can boot in safe mode but I don't know what I can do from there. HELP please! Reed

A:Elitebook 840 G2 screen freezing

Not sure if anyone really cares anymore, but the IE hardware acceleration workaround helped some, but only on videos online. Videos played driectly from the PC like WMV videos in windows media player still had issues with freezing. If anyone is curious, I finally resolved the issue by switching to an Aero theme and then back to the original theme. The only thing I notice changing is the Windwos Basic Colors. Which shouldn't have been set that way anyway. I had an aero theme already, but the colors were still Basic. Making this change fix all issues. Don't even have to check the acceleration option in IE either.

Hi,    I'm also an user of HP EliteBook 840 G2 notebook (different processor) and I didn't experience such issue todate... hopefully will not in the future.Below is my system details for your reference:   Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-5300U CPU @ 2.3GHz   Memory: 12GB   System Board: 2216 KBC version 96.58   System BIOS:  M71 Ver. 01.12   Graphics Device 1: Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500   Driver: 10.18.15.4268 (5/8/2015)    Graphics Device 2: AMD Radeon R7 M260X   Driver: 15.201.1301.0 (19/8/2015)    OS: Windows 10 Pro   Version: 10.0.10586 Build 10586    Did you update your BIOS?? I remember there are at least 2 BIOS updates in the last 6 months.   Anyway, I also encounter problems when using Windows 10, such battery drain during power off and Wifi issue, but after update to the latest Windows 10 version and some setting changes, it improve a lot.  The only compliant I had now is that when the notebook lid is close, the keyboard keys, the pointstick and mouse button will come in contact with my screen... it leave some marks on my screen after a while and I think it scratch my screen a bit...   Have a nice day.

Hi All, We have recently purchase a couple of HP EliteBook 1040 G3 - 14" laptops. The resolution of these out of the box is 2560 x1440 which looks great. However, when we start any application such as Word, Excel, Symantec Anti-Virus.  When the applications open they are so small you can barely see what you are looking at.  Is there a method of increasing the size of these applications without changing your laptop resolution so that you end up with large black borders down each side or absolutely massive icons? We have tried driver updates but still the same issue. Surely there is a fix for this? Thanks

We have just put our company image on to the 840 and everything appears to be going well apart from a random freezing issue after the laptop is woken up from sleep. I've been unable to replicate it consistantly. Windows 7 Professional x64Driver pack for SCCM from HP I've read similar issues where the laptops wont resume from sleep at all, but this is different. It gets to the Ctrl alt del screen but then you cant log back in to the device unless you reboot. I have installed a previous release of the display driver  (seehttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Lockups-Freezes-Hangs/HP-Elitebook-850-Black-screen-after-slee...) and it still exhibits the same behaviour. You can hear windows working away (recognising devices, emails coming in etc) so it's not a full freeze, it appears to be GINA just not accepting the ctrl+alt+del keys. The only thing I can see in the event logs is our VPN client (cisco) being unable to find a network address and e1dexpress saying the network is disconnected. Has anyone else seen this type of behaviour?

I have had this Elitebook 840 G3 about two weeks.  When I am using the laptop by itself, the screen flickers and goes black.  This occurs randomly and only lasts a few seconds (maybe about once or twice per hour).  When an additional monitor is attached directly to the laptop, either through the HP Displayport or the VGA port, then both screens flicker and the external monitor will actually go black for a few seconds at a time.  When docked in a slim docking station, the same problem occurs with monitors connected through the dock as with those directly connected.   I first upgraded all the drivers using the HP Support Assistant.  Then the flickering still continued and I upgraded the drivers for the Intel HD Graphics 520 directly from Intel.  The system is currently on driver version 20.19.15.4483 dated 7/1/2016.  This laptop has an intel i5-6300U processor, 8G RAM, and is on Windows 10 Enterprise with all the latest updates applied. I do not think this is a hardware issue, because:1) There are 2 others that work with me that also just received new 840 G3 notebooks that are having exactly the same problem2) It happens when using the laptop alone, when using the laptop with monitors directly connected, and when using the laptop monitors connected through a slim dock3) When the flickering occurs and the external monitors go black, the open windows on the screen do not move back to the laptop screen unless you unplug t... I have an Elitebook 840 G1 running Windows 7.  I have updated the BIOS to L71 Ver 01.33, 9/1/2015 and it did not help. I normally run in a docking station with an external monitor - just cloned of the laptop display.  I can open the laptop screen and see it, I can undock it at this time and it runs fine.  However, if I undock it and either reboot or hibernate -- it will not boot or resume...just a black screen. As soon as I put it in the docking station, I see the HP BIOS banner and it takes off. So, it makes it more of a desktop than being able to use it as a laptop.  Any ideas? thanks, greg

Hello, on the German HP website, it's possible to order the new Folio 1020 with Skylake processor.  My question: I'm currently in Germany so I am thinking of ordering it, but I would like to know if HP will provide additional models: Currently, only these models are on offer:- 4k touch with 6y75- FHD antiglare with 6y54 I.e, there is NO 4k antiglare, and there is also NO antiglare with 6y75. I prefer 6y75 with antiglare, and if possible 4k antiglare.  I would like to know if HP plan to release a 4k antiglare version, and also if there will be 6y75 models with antiglare (be it FHD or 4k). Should you not know of any such plans, I would like to ask you to forward to the developers of this model that there surely is a demand for m7 antiglare models, and presumably also a 4k version. Thank you!

I have a PC that has 2 OS's on it. how do i make it always boot to the same os without asing which os to boot in to? both of them are xp home.

A:Multi OS screen

what you have to do is go into your c:\ drive then go to tools and click on folder options. Click on the View tab and scroll down to "Hide Protected Operating System Files (Recommended)". Uncheck it and it will ask you if you really want to do this, click yes and you should see a bunch of new files in your c:\ drive. You will see one that is named boot.ini open that up and it should open a notepad file. The last two lines will look exactly the same, delete the entire bottem line and save and exit the document. Be sure to go back into folder options and re-check the hide protected OS files. If you restart your computer, you should bypass that screen you had before and your computer will boot up normally.

Hi,

Can anyone recommened me to any gfx cards that will allow me to have multiple (or dual) screens connected to one system.

It seems like ever gfx card I get the only thing i am able to do is extend my screen, into 2/3screens etc.

I need to be able to have 2/3 screens that will be independent of each other but will still be running from the same comp. Maybe each having there own start bar aswell? (is that possible?)

I did find a software option to do this on one of my nvida gfx cards fx5200 (i think), it gave me the option of having
- a clone screen
- an extended screen
- 2 screens ( cant rememeber the name) but basically independent screens.
(none of my ati cards gave me these options)
The only problem that I had with this gfx card was that it only had 1 connection.

Hi,

I was using my sony vaio laptop recently and the screen suddenly went several different colours and I couldn't make out anything.
When I rebooted, the recovery system kicked in and this worked away, then eventually took me back into windows. Worked fine for a while, then it did it again. Only this time on re-boot the recovery didn't come in and it took me back into windows.
it worked for a while (long enough for me to back up my data to disk,) then crashed again. I thought that it might be overheating so I took the laptop apart and cleared out the (quite blocked,) fan. This hasn't made any difference and now the screen is distorting pre windows start up (ie at first screen as soon as you turn it on.)

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Modern UI apps are full screen aps you can snap one other applications beside main one.. there is limitations no resize etc.. i dont know if there is mods or software that allows to run more modern ui apps.. as far as i know you can not do this with windows 8 out of the box. i recommend just to use desktop with windowed applications.. moder ui is for mobile and tablet not for multitasking work on desktop..

I've been asked to do a multiple monitor setup at work with around 10 monitors. Buying high end graphics cards isn't an option though, so it would have to be in an inexpensive method. Multiple computers isn't a problem, if something like that is possible. Windows 7 would be the ideal OS, but if it's not possible on there XP or even linux would be ok.

Anyone know of a way to do this? If so, your input would be great.

Moved to peripherals board.

You don't need to spend money on high end graphics cards...a couple of cheap low end cards will do as long as you're just doing basic tasks on them.

I bought a new PC about four months back, it was running two screens and two apps simaltainiously on windows 32 bit. Ufortunaltely after about two months the motherboard blew, screens went dead and it wouldn't power up, still don't know wether there has been any damage caused to the hard drive, but it's going to a pc specialist for repair/upgrade next week.

Can anyone give me some advice on what changes I may need to make to it, firstly did I blow the motherboard by pushing it too hard? Secondly I want to run Three screens now and two to three apps at once. this is for AV work. One app (FL Studio for audio) one app (Res3 for visual), to do this I'll need three screens, one screen for each of the two (sometimes three) apps, one of the screens would act as a Preview monitor for the Visual compositions whilst the othe two screen woud run the app ui's.

I know I'll need two Graphics cards to accomodate for the three screens, but how safe is it to run two or three apps simaltianiously on one PC, should I also upgrade my OS, to 64bit? and add axtra ram? Can one motherboard handle all this?

As you'll know, with multi monitors in Windows 8 you have a start screen on both monitors - but when you launch an application, it'll launch on the screen it was previously on rather than the screen you launched it from (the screen you were using the start menu on).

What I was wondering is if there are any options, or registry edits that open applications you launch from the start menu on the screen you were using the start menu on?

Thanks in advance!

A:Multi monitor start screen

that's not the behavior I've seen at all.

I have a 3 monitor display. I can choose whatever monitor has the start screen on the fly by clicking in the lower left corner of the desired monitor. however, I cannot have a start screen on all monitors simultaneously.

the monitor that has the start screen will be the monitor that shows the Modern/Metro/Immersive/whatever app. If I drag the app from one monitor to another, it will also bring the start screen with it.

so if the start screen is on the left monitor, the Windows app will be on the left monitor.
if I move the Windows app to the central monitor, now the start screen will also be on the central monitor.

hey all... i have 6 displays hooked up to my 2 gtx 770 4gb cards... yeah i know. 6.... anyway i know that with nvidia screen tear is common on multi displays... they arent even serious but im very perceptive of it and i want to know if you all notice the slightest bit with your multi gpu/displays. just so i can stop being anxious. (dragging windows across desktop) it only does this with certain programs such as firefox and nvidia experience and whatnot. things like office and photoshop are nice and smooth. ANYWAY! let me know guys. and once again thanks for the input! (all monitors are equally 60 hz) there is 1 smaller monitor on the wall i use for diagnostic programs but it still behaves the same with that disconnected. and this isnt like OMG screentearing this is just miniscule small stuff so im just curious if its seen by others on their systems too.

Hi all,

I have just received a new notebook, built by AVADirect (have never had a problem in the past), about a week ago. Every once in a while, with no exact cause that I can determine, the screen goes to a multi-colored static. There are no error messages, cannot see the pointer, and basically have to manually shutdown the computer. One time a loud screech came out of the speakers also. I have downloaded a driver that AVA recommended at

This didn't solve the problem. Any recommendations? Below are my specs. Thanks!

My PC is offering three boot options, all identical, yet I have not installed an additional OS. I've never heard of this and don't know how to proceed. What would be a good system info/diagnostic tool? MBAM is not detecting any malware. I have a Dell Latitude D430.

Any input appreciated.

Its either a faulty fan or a faulty thermal sensor on the board. You need to call tech support to get a case loged to get the issue resolved.

This is probably the most painful issue I have with Windows 10 right now (and likely previous versions as well, but I didn't have a multi-monitor setup back then).

The monitors I have are as follows:
3840x2160 (4K UHD) monitor with preferred DPI: 144 (150%)1920x1080 (Full HD) monitor with preferred DPI: 96 (100%)

Whenever one of these monitors are set as primary, all desktop applications displayed on the secondary monitor (doesn't matter which) has blurry text. Exceptions are the Windows Store Apps like Windows Store and Microsoft Edge, along with the Taskbar/Start Menu, the Taskbar/Start Menu settings screen, the Taskbar context menu, and the desktop context menu which passes the DPI test with flying colours, with crispy text on both monitors (occasionally a DPI switch bug gets in, but I can mostly ignore that). The problem is, as you can probably guess, is that >99% of the applications I use aren't Windows Store Apps.

Here are some screenshots. The "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" text is what the text should look like while the Visual Studio 2015 text is an example of the text most desktop apps get. The blurry image is what happens when the UHD monitor is not the primary monitor.

Note: Both of these screenshots came from the 150% DPI monitor so it's best viewed at that (144) DPI level. The 96 DPI monitor is similarly affected.

Hello everybody,

I'm reletively new on this forum and I've spent a lot of time reading posts here concerning innovative installation methods and various approaches to partitioning. This forum really has some great info and users!

I'm an old school guy going back to the days before PCs even existed. Electronics has always circulated in my bloodstream. I'm an old dog but open to new tricks.

I decided to overhaul my primary workhorse computer (See this thread for full description) by adding an SSD and rearranging my drivespace, as one of my drives was failing. I had an 80GB Vertex2 SSD scavanged from another system and thus I hatched my new partition scheme to use it.

Long story short is that after multiple trials I came to the conclusion the SSD was causing me much trouble, probably failing due to it's age. 80GB was a mighty tight fit anyway to boot 3 operating systems. So today I ordered a new SSD, a low cost 120GB Sandisk Plus from Amazon, paying less than $40 including shipping by using a discount coupon I had.

At this point I'm asking myself whether I should scrap all of the MBR partitioned disks and use only GPT disks. In reading this thread I see it's now possible to boot Windows installed on GPT using a non UEFI, legacy BIOS, which is good b/c that's all my mobo supports. That thread also requires at least a minimal MBR image, be it on a floppy VHD or other virtual image, or via some other clever "trick" to allow either winload.exe or bootmgr to live in... Read more

A:Pros / Cons of Multi-boot, Multi-Disk Partition Scheme With SSD

To the best of my knowledge MBR will work just find for drives smaller than 2 TB.
Drives bigger than that need to be GPT.

A little info from Microsoft.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2581408

Quote:
In order for an operating system to fully support storage devices that have capacities that exceed 2 terabytes (2 TB, or 2 trillion bytes), the device must be initialized by using the GUID partition table (GPT) partitioning scheme. This scheme supports addressing of the full range of storage capacity. If the user intends to start the computer from one of these large disks, the system’s base firmware interface must use the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) and not BIOS.

I hav a dell dimension E520 with a geforce 7300le video card with 128 mb ddr and ForceWare version: 162.18. Theres one vga port and one dvi port on the video card. I'm trying to set up multi screen display for my computer. Is this video card capable of multi screen display? If it is, how would I go about setting it up? would I just need to buy a converter for dvi to vga? Thanks for the help in advance.

A:geforce 7300le multi screen display help

Yes, you would need a dvi to vga converter for the particular plug you need if you're thinking of using two VGA plug n play monitors. They're not too hard to find.

I have a dvi to vga converter and it worked fine, its just the image quality seems a smidgen less than the reguarly attached VGA monitor without the converter. After you plug in both monitors/displays, start up your computer and go into your display settings (my settings being ATI Catalyst Control Center) to activate the secondary monitor (dragging then choosing either cloning or stretching the desktop).

I'm not familiar with the drivers of that particular graphics card, but you do need a converter, and you might need to know how to use its driver settings. Your card should handle it fine.

I'm trying to further customize my windows 8. I'd like to make it so that background image on the lock screen (when you lock an account and you press a key or button to raise the background revealing the password field) stretches across all my monitors. Any ideas on how, if even possible, this can be done?

Thanks!

Hello all!

I have a project I'm doing where I have up to 5 monitors. I have a video that I want to play, but I want it to be FULL SCREEN and stretched to every screen.

Is there a software that can do this? I know I could just pull the edges of the window to fit, but that will look tacky and is unacceptable.

I know there are hardware solutions, but I would prefer software.

Thanks!

A:Multi-monitor true full screen

Eyfinity from AMD but it's a combination of both. You need a GPU that will support multi-monitors and a PSU that can power all the above mentioned hardware. Check out the link and the videos they have.

Yes, there is software that does stretch images across multiple screens. UltraMon, Display Fusion and MultiMon are just a few. Some are free, others are trial versions but most you have to pay for.

ok almost 2 months ago my computer blinked came back on and said a display driver had crashed ans was succsesfully recovered, well from then on out my screen was weird looking with lines ,text would dissapear ,and it was like this for a long time,so the other day my screen blinked and when it came back on my whole screen was multi colored and i could not see my desktop at all, now i read that it was probably just my video card going out so i uninstalled it thinking that ,would fix the problem...and it did,,,,for about 10 minutes and it did it again...so i have no clue whats going on, but i know i dont want to hear windows registery error cause i have alot on my comp that i would have to have saved and i shiver at the thought of the price of that...i mean i cannot see anything at all just alot of colors in small thin lines,.this is a home built comp, but it was made by someone who has been makeing comps for years so he knows what he is doing.....but hes way to busy for me to just call up, so any help would be amazing

Boot in safe mode and see if the issue persists. If it does in safe mode, then it's most likely a hardware issue.

Hi, I have an Acer Aspire 7720 laptop and I can't start it up properly.

When I start it up, the screen goes grey with vertical lines of different colours and slowly fades to black.
I can't actually do anything like tapping F2 or F10 to try and get it to a repair screen. It's basically completely unresponsive...

This had happened a few times before, but I can usually just start up the laptop again and it's fine, but this time I've restarted the laptop multiple times and it still won't work.
If it makes any difference, my fan is slightly wobbly and my laptop recently overheated (I had kept it on a flat surface, which I rarely do, which causes it to get hot much faster), so maybe something inside it is loose or slightly melted?

Hello Experts,

My System configuration is,
CPU : Intel Xeon E5405 (2 Ghz) * 1 No.
Mother Board : S5000 XVN SATA 8 DIM
RAM : 8GB FB DIMM (2 GB * 4)
HDD: 500 GB SATA - Samsung
Graphic Card: Palit 1 GB 9500 Super +

I had lot of issues while installing the Vista x64 Operating System and after a long research, I was able to locate the issue. i.e. I had to disable "Core Multi-Processing" from the BIOS while installing the Operating System. However after successfully installing the Vista Operating System and all the latest services packs/updates when I enabled "Core Multi-Processing" from the BIOS, my system would work for few minutes and then crashes (Does not restart, but just hangs) with a Stop blue screen error stating "A Clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval. Stop: 0x00000101". I just have 1 processor installed on the first slot of the M/B. The issue occurs even if I sit idle and do not perform anything on the computer.
If I disable "Core Multi-Processing", my system works fine with out any issues.
I have even downloaded and installed the latest BIOS updates and drivers for NIC card and sound card but it didn't help.

I do not have any 3rd party hardware devices attached to it. I also do not have any softwares installed on the computer yet. I even tried re-installing the OS couple of time, but it didn't help.
Please help me to resolve this issue or point me i... Read more

ok well what a weekend i had...had to deal with that earthquake and that damn power outage for 17 hours. but my problem is when starting up my computer after the power came back on, my screen just showed all these colored boxes on the screen...alot of them. i have a feeling the power doesnt work because my dvd drive and cd rom drive doesnt open when the computer is on. and note that when starting my computer all lights on the computer turns on.

the one thing i am not sure of is if my computer took in water, because it was such a humid day w/o any electricity i opened the window behind my computer. it rained a little and the screen got a little wet but from what i observed my computer did not. but it definetly could be a possibility.

if something got damaged would any of you have an idea with what i would have to replace?
