IE11 this page can't be displayed (in EDGE - Hmm, we can't reach this page)

Q: IE11 this page can't be displayed (in EDGE - Hmm, we can't reach this page)

Hi,
1. I cannot find a solution for a problem accessing Microsoft forums websites from Windows 10 - IE11 and Edge browsers:
in EDGE - Hmm, we can't reach this page. IE11 this page can't be displayed.
For about a year it worked at least from Edge. Now both cannot access Microsoft forums. All the other sites are accessible.
I am using a corporate proxy. The same sites are accessible from Windows 7 with IE11.
First I blamed our IE GPO with multiple settings. So for a test I placed my machine in Blocked OU (no IE GPO, proxy is set from different GPO).
Everything what I tried didn't help. The question: why just Microsoft forums (no other sites) are not accessible.
Did couple of tests from Windows 7 IE11 machines. The same Microsoft forums are perfectly accessible (all GPOs are applied).
Suddenly, found that one corporate Web App does the same : "This page can't be displayed". On other Windows 7 it does work.
I am out of ideas now... cannot blame anymore our GPO or proxy...
Any advice?
Thanks

I've set Google as my search provider in Edge. If I open a new tab and type where it says: Search or enter web address, I get:

Hmm, we can?t reach this page.

Try this
?Make sure you?ve got the right URL: http://windows%207%20iso%20download
?Refresh the page
?Search for what you want

If I click on the last option, a search opens in Bing.

This is driving me crazy!

A:Edge: Hmm, we canít reach this page?

Does Google look ok as the default search provider in advanced options?

I just tried

Went to Google home page
brought up settings\advanced
clicked the drop down for search box and selected add new
it showed me google was available and I clicked add as default

are these the same steps you took?

Hello,
sorry, i'm not a computer wizard although I know my way around a bunch of these things.  Have the strangest thing, which I can't figure out.  I have this website, which is giving me always the "Page can't be displayed" error, together
with the TLS and RC4 comments.
Strangly enough, this is the only site where this happens.  All other various sites are accessible (e.g. Google, Facebook, Youtube), so it doesn't seem to be a connectivity problem.   FYI : i also get this same problem with Chrome.
I believe I had no problems with this on my previous computer, who also had IE11.  It must be some of the security settings or some kind of access right, although nothing special is installed.
I have the TLS 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 turned on.  I also tried using the SSL 2.0 & 3.0 but no success.
Any suggestions ?

Hi,

I'm running Win 7 Pro x64 and IE11. I often get a situation while browsing where I click on a link to read an article and the page comes up blank with the text: This page can't be displayed.

This condition seems to happen randomly. I usually have several tabs open. Once IE11 starts doing this, the majority of tabs produce the same blank page. I even opened a new tab and clicked on Google where the same thing happened.

The solution is to close IE11 and restart IE11. I've tried other solutions such as a complete IE11 reset, but that doesn't cure the issue.

Is there a fix for this condition?

IE11 on this computer abruptly stopped displaying websites with "This page can?t be displayed" error. Firefox on the same machine seems to function properly. No other obvious anomalies. Users software requires IE11 so it's critical to use that browser. Looks as if the virus software may be expired. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello,

I am unable to access Sign in to your Microsoft account on my desktop computer running Windows 10 on a home Ethernet network using Edge and IE11. I am connected to the Internet through a Fritz!Box 7490 DSL connection.

I originally tried to solve this problem as a network issue - and it may still turn out to be one - but since I am able to log in to my live.com account using Google Chrome on this computer and from Linux and OS X machines on the network, I am now looking at the possibility that it is some setting shared by Edge and IE11 that is causing my problem.

A secondary effect of this problem is that I am unable to activate Office 365 products, because once I enter my account email address, the activation process wants to take me to live.com to confirm my subscription.

I have seen a number of posts on this and other sites about the "Hmm..." messages, and that's the message I am shown when I try to access login.live.com. Since, in all of the other posts, the issue was a complete inability of Edge to access the sites, this seems to me to be something different. Thus, I started a new thread rather than add to one of the others.

I will be grateful for any and all suggestions on how to fix this problem.

Cheers,
hussar

HELP!!!!!!!!!!

OK, I'm having three problems.......

1.) For some reason, when I do a search and click on the site that I am interested in, it goes to a totally different site. I have to go back to the search engines site and click it two more times before it takes me to the site I requested.

2.) When I'm online playing Pogo, sometimes I get kicked out because a pop up appears in the page that I'm playing on.

3.) When I log onto Yahoo Messenger, my screen gets real small. I have to go to the Control Panel and maximize it again. It does it periodically other times as well, but mostly when I log on to Yahoo Messenger.

Can anyone tell me what the problem is and how I can get rid of it????

Thanks In Advance,

Hello
This post is in regards to a website that I'm attempting to access. Within the email there is a highlighted link "Store" where I access a link to purchase my photos.. Clicking on this link Message reads Cannot reach this page, Refresh or Search. Clicking on Refresh nothing happens, click on Search brings up all the connecting websites but each one I try to open they all show the same. Cannot reach this page. This website is the only one that shows that. All others such as My Bank , Kaiser etc all open without incident. I do not understand this .I tried everything I even sent an email to this company about this issue The email could not be sent either , Up until today I have had no problems with this company/website. What happened, and Why? I have Windows 10 Microsoft Edge

A:Cannot Reach this page

1) Right click the link, click on Copy Link, and paste it in the address bar. Does it look like a valid website link?
2) If so, search for, and open, on your computer
iexplore.exe
and paste that link there and try it, does it work?

1. I can access http://www.qmiles.com. On this page you need to enter member number and pin code.
2. Enter any member No and pin code and login
3. Box indicates 'you are about to view pages over a secure connection'. Click OK
4. Requested page does not display. Status bar first indicates 'Opening page https://secure.qmiles.com/FrontPage.jsp', then changes to 'Connecting to 213.130.112.202', and finally 'Done', and displays a page saying 'Page cannot be displayed'

I use windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 and Tiscali broadband. This same problem exists at 4 Tiscali broadband site I have checked in this area, but works OK at an AOL site, and also at 1 Tiscali broadband site a few miles away.
Can you suggest what I should do to be able to view the login page?
This is not a security or firewall problem, as the problem is present even when antivirus and firewall are turned off. As the site is accessible from another site, it does not appear to be a security problem. I can access the secure bank sites.

A:cannot reach a particular web page

I can get to first link but second IP comes as unavailable. Perhaps the page is generated uniquely based on input you provide when logged in and cookies you have on your machine. If you have a bad cookie or temp internet file the page cannot be generated. Try emptying temp internet files and deleting cookies.

That is when using Edge.  Similar type of messages happen when trying to get to the same page in Chrome and in Internet Explorer.  I changed the website name, giving a fake one instead of the real one.

My guess is that something is wrong at the website's end and not at my end since I can reach all other sites; just not one particular one.  Any good way to check on this?  Any other way of testing the vaidness or health of the website?

I have had this issue so much more often the past week with Edge than my entire time using Windows 10. Is anyone else seeing a increase in this? I cant tell if its a wifi problem (all my other devices using wifi are fine) or a problem caused by a recent update or what, but its so aggravating.

Any tricks or suggestions before I just ditch the Edge browser and rely only on Chrome?

A:Hmmm...cant reach this page

Well after installing Chrome I am also having internet problems. So it's not the Edge browser. Must be a driver. Can someone point me in the right direction to see if my drivers are up to date?

We have 2 wired pc, and a laptop. The PCs are Acer3100+, 1.8ghz, 1G ram, connected via ethernet to a wildblue modem. I have just installed a Belkin wireless router, model F5D 6231-4, that I bought on ebay. Both pcs will go online, a little slower than before, but my big concern is that when I run a cmd, ipconfig/all, my IP address dosen't match what they say. Belkin says it should be 192.168.1, and I get 70.41.xx.xxx, in this range. They said to configure router, but when I enter that page address, I get the notice of a network error. I don't know enough about this to know if this is a security issue or not! If I manually enter the numbers that Belkin should be , I get the correct address in an ipconfig, but I cannot get to the page, or get online. What have I done wrong!!!!

A:Can't reach Belkin configuration page..is this a problem???

the Belkin default address is 192.168.2.1

you're apparently wired like
modem---(wan)belkin-router(LAN)---yourPCs

the WAN side address will be set by your ISP, not belkin and might well be
70.41.xx.xxx, but none of your PCs will see this using IPCONFIG /ALL --
they will see the LAN side addresses. IPCONFIG will show the DHCP address
given to that specific machine. the LAN side address of the belkin should be
the default above, and thus your PC addresses will default to something like
192.168.2.x.

use one PC to access the router config using your browser http://192.168.2.1/
IF NECESSARY, you can change the default router address and the range of IP
addresses that will be assigned to your PCs.

you should absolutely change the admin password

I'm having an issue I just can not understand. When I have two IE browsers open, I sometimes get the "Page Cannot Be Displayed" error on the second brower. When I try to go to the same page as the working browser I get the samel thing. It's like the second browser is not connectted to the internet. After shutting down both browsers several times and even rebooting sometimes, it will eventually work fine. I thought it might be the modem going bad, but if one browser is working, then that can 't be it. Hopefully this made sense ... any ideas? I"m stumpped!!

I cannot figure out how to set the IE11 in Win 8.1 to only print a web page in Black and White. In Win 7 I had found it but with great difficulty and I believe it was in Internet tools if you drill down far enough. In Win 8.1 I cannot find it so that when printing out a web page that has red and blue it is almost impossible to read on my Dell 1700 monochrome laser. I tried in the Devices and Printers, Dell, both Printer preferences and printer properties but cannot find anywhere to set. I am fairly certain it is a setting that has to be made in Internet Explorer but they seem to have hidden it (I think I was using IE9 or IE10 in Win 7). In Excel you can set that parameter for each page in page setup.

Any ideas where to look?

I know this is a weird one since most people would be happy if ads were blocked...but on certain sites (it seems random) I'm all of the sudden getting the error message "Page cannot be displayed" in place of some of the advertisements. For example, if ads are running down the right side of the page, I get the error message (or parts thereof) in chunks instead of the ads. But some ads do show up.

I'm running IE6 with the Google Toolbar. I've run SpyBot, Ewido Suite, and AdAware. I've also deleted all cookies and other internet clutter.

I've just downloaded and run Microsofts Spyware tool - no help!!

I've just tried viewing the sites using FireFox. The banner ad at the top of the site is displayed, but the ads running down the side are just white space - no error message. The I reopened the site in IE and the top banner is displayed but the ads on the side show the error message?????

A:The page cannot be displayed

Hello creicke and Welcome to TSF.

1. Try clearing all Cookies and Temporary Internet Files in IE.
2. Go to Start>Run, type in cmd hit enter at the command prompt type
the website you're trying to enter (ping www.xxxx.com). If this returns as "request timed out" than the site is not reachable.
3. Run the System Configuration Utility. Start>> Run. Type in: msconfig [Enter]
Click on the "Startup" tab and remove the checks from each item in the Name column.
Click the Apply button.
Reboot your computer.
Try again.
If this issue is resolved at this point, reverse the process. However, add one check back at a time to Startup and reboot each time until the issue reappears.
4. Run your Anti-spyware utilities.
5. Lastly try restoring Winsock stack it might be corrupted, if your running SP2 the best way to do this, go to Start>Run, type netsh winsock reset [Enter]
Then reboot. Or you can try d/l this Winsock fix from http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4372.html.

I hope one of these suggestions helps solve your problem, have a Happy New Year.

grr. this is the 2nd time i'm trying to post this because of this problem i'm having.

i have vista, IE7 and AIM. i am wireless through router. ever since i got this wireless through my cable company, it has not worked properly after one week of great service.

my IE works when it wants, goes out maybe every 20 minutes or less. it says 'page can not be displayed... try blah blah.' so i tried everything and nothing has worked.

i called the cable/internet company and they said to reset my router and i'm not doing that every 20 minutes or so, that's not right.

oh, and I am signed on AIM at all times and it is never disconnected and always works, so i don't know what's going on!? any ideas?

I installed microsoft antispyware, spyware blaster, spyware guard, spybot, and zonealarm. I suspect zonealarm is my problem. The aforementioned message displays very randomly, www.navyfcu.org for example sometime says web page can't be displayed and sometimes it lets us on. Very random and unpredictable. Any suggestions on toning zonealarm down? known issue? not even zonealarm?

Thanks

Joe

A:web page can't be displayed

It would help to know your OS, including Service Packs, if any, along with names and versions of programs involved in your problem. What browser do you use? Maybe a Ford and a Toyota are both cars - but your mechanic needs to know what he is working on. Same here.

Did you install all those programs in one fell swoop? Why? Were you having specific problems? Were you able to access that site before installing all the programs you listed? What have you tried to fix the problem? How long has it been a problem?

A general suggestion would be to temporarily disable anti-virus/firewall/popup blockers and toolbars. Including Yahoo! Companion, if you have it. If that solves the problem, isolate which program is causing it and change settings within that program.

Incidently, the site is up and running OK right now.

I am having a similar issue with a single website (a subscription based data site). Nothing works for me. Have tried skipping DNS alltogether -- no luck. I am going to contact the tech services for the site and will post back with anything that works or appears remotely helpful.

Hi

Have you checked with your ISP that they're not experiencing problems?
This sounds like an issue with them with the DNS.
Have you checked and reseated all your cables?
Have you tried any other browser?
I would try Fx or Opera and see how that goes.

Also, get to this site: http://www.auditmypc.com/internet-speed-test.asp

Run that speed test by clicking once on the start and wait. Make a screen shot of it and add the image back as an attachment.

I'm hoping I am posting in the right place (if not, so sorry)

I'm hoping for some help with a problem that is bothering me to no end.
When trying to access one certain web page, I get a page displaying "This Page Cannot Be Displayed". This problem only occurs in my own household as I can access the site in other places such as work and internet cafe etc.
I have no problem with any other websites, just this particular one that I want to access. If anyone has some information please let me know.

Thank you

A:The Page Cannot Be Displayed

There's an excellent site here which has a walkthrough of things to try and it's fairly straightforward to follow.

Also, do you have a firewall? If yes, bear in mind that Norton can be a pain in the rear when it comes to secure sites so perhaps try temporarily disabling it just to see if you can make a connection :-)

I've been having an issue since I started using this computer a week ago. I can connect to the internet (netscape online dial-up) and start surfing but at some point - maybe 5 mins or more - when I go to a different web page I get "page cannot be displayed". It looks like I've been booted yet when I check my connection I am still connected to the internet. I've tried everything to try and correct this - ran COMODO, AVG anti-virus, Malwarebytes etc. It can also happen when I'm playing a casino game...screen freezes, I have to minimize window, close the program with ctrl, alt, del, disconnect and then reconnect. The problem doesn't seem to be with my ISP, modem or phone line because I am definetely still connected.

I've been following several interesting threads here the last couple of weeks trying to resolve my problem. I am truly amazed. However, I havn't been able to correct my problem.

I have run MS system file checker, Lavasoft Ad-aware SE, Spyware blaster, CW Shredder, and WinSockXP fix. For about one day I thought the problem went away.

OK! The problem: (originally is was always a DNS error)

Since runing the above programs, the DNS problem went away but I still have this one:
The only browser I can utilize is Mozilla Firefox.
Internet Exployer (default), Advant and Opera all give the same message "The page cannot be displayed" when opening, refreshing etc.

I hope this can be fixed without reinstalling the OS.
I really need IE to be operating correctly to download and install various updates.

So i'm posting my Hijack This. Thanks just for looking!

Hello and welcome ?Cashu sounds like the updates have had some sort of effect and by the by be careful re so reading your details around a but mate best left until asked - don't take offence I am just the wary kind so..

Maybe a system restore may help - to before the updates.

A good idea is to have the Microsoft readiness tool on board too mate as some updates are well for want of a better term "difficult" without it.

Download: System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Edition (KB947821) [September 2012] - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details fairly large download but worth having it.

After installing updates that were recommended, my internet is acting wierd. I keep getting the message "the page cannot be displayed" but when I click refresh, sometimes the website comes up. I thought it was the Internet provider, so I called them and they did a few tests, said I was ok. This happens not only to the specfic page i'm looking for but also miscellaneous stuff, like Barney, clocks, world news. I restored my defaluts in Internet Properties on the tab that reads "security" & "advanced"
and it is still doing it. What should I do?

A:The page cannot be displayed

'sometimes' this can be fixed by going to Internet Options > Connections > Settings (for your particular connection) and checking "automatically detect settings". For others unchecking the option may work. But checking it really made a difference for me, particularly where refresh would often cause the page to display.

If this does not help, post a copy of your HijackThis ScanLog, it will help in spotting other issues which can affect this:

did you install anything just prior to the problems or has this always been the case with msie? Also try another browser to help us determine if this is a msie7 problem or something else.

one other thing, maybe go to tools, internet options, advance settings and reset everything to default.

I'm not sure if this is a security problem or not. For some reason certain web pages will no longer display, in particular yahoo 360 will not come up for me anymore, just says 'The page cannot be displayed'. I did some regular clean up this morning with Ad-Aware, Ewido, and ran a virus scan with Norton. I'm not having issues with pop-ups, just this one irritating thing. I can reach the page from a different computer so I know it's got to be something on this PC. Anywho, if someone could take a look at my HJT log or the Ewido log and let me know if somethings wrong I would be very appreciative

Thanks,

Last week I installed KB939653 and the same problem. Had to uninstall it as well.
All I use IE for is security patches. Normal browser is Firefox and have no issues.

Hi
I am having a problem with internet. when I try to access internet explorer I can not display pages. I am using links from favourites but it also happens when I type in the address. it also happens when I use other browsers ie Mozilla.

This is only happening on my pc desktop which has been having its own issues. I can access internet with my tablet as I am doing now. my wife and daughter are also connected via wireless. desktop is connected via Ethernet.

It is as if there is something to do with the connection part within desktop.

Any suggestions?

Windows Network Diagnostics seems to indicates a problem with this website, but not for the internet in general.

Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this issue. I don't think there is anything wrong with my DSL modem.

I am running Window's XP, using IE 6.0. All of a sudden I am unable to access this website: http://p097.ezboard.com/bmomstogether42465 I have checked with others and they are able to access the site. I tried to just access it from www.ezboard.com but that doesn't work either. At this point I haven't done a whole lot to try to fix it. I'm guessing it's a setting in IE that got changed, but since I don't know a whole lot about IE, I don't want to try to fix it and then end up making the problem worse. Hopefully I've given all the pertinant information. Thank you in advance for the help.

Hi Sharpie : Looks like you have a malware problem, which is best analyzed by a HijackThis program Expert; if at all possible, download HijackThis (? Merijn) from: http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTsetup.exe . Note: This is a complete installer that installs HijackThis to your computer at C:\Program Files\HijackThis, making an entry in the start menu and also providing a desktop shortcut. If HijackThis is used from a temp folder, it is in danger of being accidentally deleted by clean up tools. At the download prompt, choose "Save". After the download is complete, navigate to the C:\Program Files\HijackThis folder and double-click it to complete the installation. For info on HOW to post a HijackThis log, see : http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-post-a-hijackthis-log/ .

Hi,
I'm running Windows 98se (all patches), IE6 (all patches) and my ISP is AOL (Version 5) dial up, HP8665C pc, 30gb harddrive and 256mb memory.
When using IE on certain pages (broadband forums, HP forums and a few other sites) I get the page cannot be displayed and at the bottom is "cannot find server or dns error". I can immediately access that site with the AOL browser. I also want to mention that if, using the standalone IE, I first go to www.anonymizer.com and put the address in their address bar I can access the site!
I've been to a few forums and AOL help and haven't been able to resolve this problem. Due to settings AOL had me do in October I had to remove IE and also remove AOL, and recently I followed a setting they gave me in the AOL adapter and I wasn't able to access any sites in either browser!
I am not running a firewall. I don't have any hosts file except hosts.sam and LMHosts.sam. In IE settings the check for proxy box is unchecked. My Wsock32.dll is 40kb and version 4.10.1998.
When I removed and reinstalled my AOL adapter yesterday I got a message about Version Conflict re snmpapi.dll - my version 5.00.2195.5513. It asked do you want to keep this file - I said yes. I'm assuming I was saying yes to my version. I now have my version in C\Windows and C\Windows\Options\Cabs but I have version 4.0 in C\Windows\System and version 5.00.1662.1
in C\Windows\AOL5.0\net\win98.se. I don't know if this version conflict could... Read more

Hi guys,

I was wondering if you might be able to help me.
From what i can tell, i'm running a pretty clean system, no viruses, spy-ware etc.
When im browsing, as most people do im sure, i have more than one browser window open, jumping from one thing to another.
If, i have more than one window open, and i click on a link on a page, then move to the second while the link loads, when i go back to it, i get the message, " this page cannot be displayed " and all i have to do to bring it up is hit refresh and it loads pefectly. It seems pages only load properly everytime, if you sit there watching them, ie. have it as the main active rowser window.
This is only in the last couple of days, and before this, an equally irritating problem. If i left a page building in the background, say something obvious, that you know for sure is the correct address such as " www.gmail.com ". When i go back to it, i find " MSN search cannot find this page " then asks if i was maybe looking for jmail.com orone or two other options, .. then promtps me to visit MSN search to find all the search results for gmail.com
I dont need search results,... i just wanna be brough to the page i asked in the first place !
Please please help me someone, .. while not life threatening, this really is frustrating me !

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Hi all.

I have had this problem for a while now and have never got round to fixing it.

I have a laptop on wireless internet and i mostly use AOL for browsing. However when i click on links from msn to my hotmail inbox etc. it opens up internet explorer and takes ages searching then comes up with " this page cannot be displayed". It also happens when i try to register my mcafee security center, so for all i know my computer could be full of viruses.

I mainly want this problem fixed so my computer can b safe from viruses and i can use mcafee but also internet explorer is so much easier to use.

Hope you can help

A:IE 6 "page cannot be displayed"

I just got a second computer and I am having a similar problem, although I don't use AOL. I use Bellsouth fast acess dsl lite for my ISP, and this computer has a wireless network card only (my other computer is hooked to the router and modem) I have no problems getting online or surfing, only acessing hotmail or yahoo mail. I can't log into hotmail w/o getting the "page cannot be displayed" message. I can log into yahoo, and it will show my main mail page that tells me how many messages are in my various folders, but if I try to get into any of those folders, including my inbox, I get the same "page cannot be displayed" message. I don't have any problems like that on the other computer in my house. I have windows xp home with sp2 installed (I have heard lots of bad things about sp2, but it was installed in the computer before we got it). I am using IE 6.

Hello everyone,

im having a problem since yesterday where each time i connect to the internet (Tiscali 8meg) the page comes up as "Page cannot be displayed" the title of the page at the top is "cannot find server" this started yesterday but i dont know why, i removed some spyware but i dont understan because i always removed spyware from my pc, any ideas what this is about

im using Internet Explorer 6.0
Winxp pro sp2

everything is normal otherwise in terms of computer functionality...
one thing is that sometimes i get a connection, say when i want to update some software it works, this is only sometimes.. seems that if i want to update AVG this has to be the first thing i do once i connect. if i open say google, then i cannot update, or if i want to open hotmail. that has to be the first thing i do, else i cant update avg after that?

any advice will be much appreciated. hope this thread goes through...
Thanks,

Hi all, this is my first time posting. I have a problem with my internet.. every site I try to go to comes up as "page cannot be displayed". I use a dsl connection and know that it is working because I can play online multiplayer games. The weird part about this is, whenever I disable my dsl and than enable it, I can browse the internet for a few minutes before everything starts coming up as "page cannot be displayed". I thought it might be internet explorer, so I downloaded (within the 2 minute window of disabling/enabling, even though I cant browse the internet, downloads will still download) firefox but a similar thing happens. After a few minutes of browsing, pages just wont load and stay pure white. I have microsoft anti-spyware beta and had (just unistalled it a few days ago) avast anti-virus protection. I have no idea whats wrong, except the obvious, its probably spyware, which I'm not sure where I would have gotton it since I only check a few game forums and email people. Everything use to run fine and than this just started happening. This isnt a huge problem because I am mainly gamer and not an internet browser, but I would like to be able to check my email and go to webpages every once in awhile without having to disable+enable my dsl connection every few minutes.

Please Help! I keep getting a "This Page Can Not Be Displayed" message. Recently it has started when I try to use a link in messages on my Yahoo mail from eBay. There will be a link to the auction. When I click on it, I get the error message. I also get the message on the opening mail page on Yahoo. The advertisements on the right side of the page get blocked. I can still use the mail. I run WindowsXP, EZantivirus, Spysweeper, Windows Defender beta. I have checked off all the security settings that the error message tells me to. I have tried clearing the cache, shutting off pop-up blocker, firewall, anti-spam, and anti-virus programs. With no success. Any suggestions? Monty

This problem is typical of a poor connection, possibly a noisy phone line.

Pick up the phone (without the computer connected), dial a single digit (to stop the dial tone for a short time) and listen to see if the line is silent. There should be no sound, static or clicks whatever.
