HP SoftPaqs problem

Q: HP SoftPaqs problem

From time to time I use the "HP SoftPaq Download Manager" (HPSPDM) to update the soft of my EliteBook 8770w machine. But lately few SoftPaqs are causing me troubles: Whenever I try to install them, the "HP SoftPaq Download Manager" forces me to restart the PC and after that the SoftPaqs reappear in the HPSPDM with status "Newer version available" ! How to find out what's going on? Does the HPSPDM creates some kind of a installation log? P.S. This issue is not vital for my PC, but drives me crazy that such a "enterprise software" behaves like that.

A: HP SoftPaqs problem

May I ask some of the Admins to move this to the "Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions" section.

Hello, I'm dealing with this issue since Monday and it's driving me nuts. I want do deploy the newest driver with the SSM for our Notebooks 820 G2 via USB Drive. Downloading and preparing seems to work with the SDM. I prepared the SSM and the USB Drive like it's said in the documentation, but when I start the SSM in update mode the SSM window pops up and closes without any error. It seems like the SSM doesn't find any packages to install and just finishes without doing anything. Becaus of that, I wanted to get a logfile, but the SSM seems to just ignore my demand. The downloaded files look like this:  I wonder why there is no *.cfg file but a *.html file in the folder. The latest documentation I could find was published in 2014. In this documentation there is no word about any *.html files in the directory, but there should be a *.cfg file.  This is my commandline entry to start the program: E:\HP\Treiber\SSM\SSM E:\HP\Treiber\SSM\SSM.exe /accept This is the commandline entry to start the program and create a logfileE:\HP\Treiber\SSM\SSM E:\HP\Treiber\SSM\SSM.exe /accept /debug /log:"E:\HP\LOG"  I'm pretty helpless and have no idea what to do next. Hope you guys can help me :-/  Sorry if there are any mistakes, my english is a bit rusty. best regards Jan-Eric

A:SSM does not install preloaded softpaqs

I'm also having the same problem but only with our brand new HP EliteOne 800 G2 PC's. I've updated SSM to include the drivers I'm missing (which is plenty) and launching SSM as a part of my Windows Deployment (WDS). I'm installing Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit also. Every other HP PC make / model I have runs SSM fine. Almost all the drivers are typically installed and the EliteDesk 800 (G1) and EliteOne 800 (also G1) both get all their drivers fine via SSM. I also include a "Extra_Drivers" directory within the SSM Softpaq's there I will typically expand missing drivers. After Windows runs a Windows Update (part of WDS), these extra drivers are installed. I've had to update the HP Softpaq Download Manager to to capture the "HP EliteOne G2 23-inch Non-touch All-in-One PC" which is great.  SSM runs fine because the first component is executing Diskpart that creates the hidden partition for HP recovery. This runs perfectly on the EliteOne 800 G2, but NO other driver softpaq's are installing and the same missing drivers remain after SSM has finished. I always set WDS to reboot the PC after SSM has executed which is the standard task sequence I have built. If SSM reboots the PC then WDS returns an error.  SSM command being lanched by WDSstart /wait c:\windows\SSM\ssm.exe c:\windows\SSM /accept /noreboot /nu /nolog /to:600 /ti:"SSM executing from the Windows SSM Directory" Why are none of the new EliteOne 800 G2 softpaq's running? How do I unpack, but not install, SoftPaqs?

A:FAQ(23): Unpacking downloaded SoftPaqs

You can unpack a SoftPaq by running it with a few command line switches.  To do this, open a Windows command box and refer to the following information:Unpacking a SoftPaq fileSp#####.exe ?pdf ?f<path> -s WhereSP####.exe is the Softpaq to unpack.-pdf is a run time switch that overrides the build parameters.-f<Path> is a run time switch that overrides the default path set at build time.-s instructs the package to unpack in silent mode skipping the welcome, license and directory screens.EXAMPLE:At the command box prompt (with Administrator rights to prevent access issues) go to the directory where the SoftPaq is and type the following: sp59909.exe -pdf -fC:\SWSetup\sp59909 -s

I need some help and if anyone can help me I will be very appreciated. My system is Windows 7 Ultimate X64.
1. USB port.
I used to have a Lenovo thinkpad W520, the USB ports can still provide power and the devices connected to the port won't be disconnected after the PC turning into sleep mode even power off, but everytime when I wake up my Precision 7510, the keyboad need a long wait to be reconnected and all of the external hard drives are reconnected too (Auto play also pops out). And I cannot charge my cellphone even if the precision is in sleeping mode with power connected to it.

2. External Monitor,
I get a Dell P2417H monitor. I connect the monitor to my PC through Display port.
Then I use the Screen Resolution to Identify the monitor. I then use "Identify" to identify the monitor, at first both of the monitors show (1\2), which is correct because windows is set to duplicate the monitors. Then I selected Show desk top only on 1 and then "Identify" the monitors. Both of the monitors show a big 1. Then I selected show desk top only on 2 and then "Identify" the monitors. Both of the monitors show a big 2.(My p2417H is actually 2)
Then I select apply so only p2417H shows the display and close the laptop's lid. (I set the power options, so that the PC won't be turn off when I close the lid or after a long deactivation)
As long as I close the lid and turn the laptop into sleep mode and wake it up. The monitor setting... Read more

Some of what you're experiencing may be due to the different hardware than you had in the older system - however, one BIG possibility:
Windows 7 does not fully support the power management features of the Skylake CPU and chipset in your system.  Even if Windows 7 is correctly installed, there will be missing features (Microsoft never implemented the advanced Skylake power management features in anything older than Windows 8).
You'd likely experience some of the same issues with a Skylake Lenovo system.
The Skylake platform in your system WILL run Windows 7 (it's the last Intel platform that will;  the newly released Kaby Lake won't run it at all), but it won't implement all the Skylake power management features it has no drivers for (and never will have drivers for).  Unless you're completely stuck with Windows 7, most of the issue -- or all of them -- will go away if you move to Windows 10.  If you don't do it now, this is the last hardware you'll be buying -- as above, Windows 7 is history as of the release of the new Kaby Lake platform.

I believe I have a virus these are the symptoms i am experiencing and what I have tried so far:-

1. I am having problems using google, sometimes when I click on results they go to another page, sometimes it decided i am not connected to the internet when I know I am.

2. I started by trying to run Malwarebytes but this would not open, then the same problem occurred with Spybot, it wont open.

3. I tried to scan with Trend Micro but the virus has prevented Java from working and so Trend does not work.

4. Tried to do a system restore but that says the drive failed during the restore.

5. AVG does not find any viruses when scanned.

6. Computer will not hibernate, it goes to blackscreen and then back to the desktop.

7. I managed to get Malwarebytes working by renaming the file from mbam.exe to mbam1.exe but now it freezes is not responding about halfway through the scan, have also told it not to scan registry items but it still freezes. Also after it has frozen it will not close even by trying to end the process.

So they are my problems can anyone help? Thanks

Try this scan. You can copy it over from another computer on a CD or pen drive if you need to.Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page. Please download DrWeb-CureIt and save it to your desktop. DO NOT perform a scan yet.Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".Scan with Dr.Web CureIt as follows:Double-click on drweb-cureit.exe to open the program and click Start. Hi! I have a few problems with a few difference softwares. I thought it would be best open on thread with all the problems other than opening multiple different threads.
My Problems are:

1) I use mozilla firefox and i have a problem opening PDF files. When i click on a link which leads me to a PDF file, the following error message pops up.
"The adobe acrobat/ reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your Wev Browser and try again."
When I use Internet Explorer, I get a similar error message.
"The adobe acrobat/ reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser. Adobe Acrobet/Reader version 8 or 9 is required. Please exit and try again."
This message tells me to exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader. I don't exactly know how to do that.

2) The other problem I have is with Windows Live Messenger (MSN). This messenger allows you to draw in a conversation. They have a handwriting tool. The problem I have with this tool is that when I use it to draw something, what I draw doesn't appear on the place where I am suppose to draw before sending the message. But when I click send just by drawing something with seeing what is happening on my screen, I will be able to see what I drew in the message sent part of the window. I know this is confusing but it is hard to explain. So basically, while drawing something, I can't see it but when i send it, I can see it.

Hi, I'm new here (meaning I just made an account but have been lurking around every time I had computer trouble. This time however, I couldn't find anything that resembles the trouble I'm currently experiencing) and I'm hoping if anyone can help me or tell me if I should just throw my laptop against the wall.

I've had my printer (details and TSG SysInfo below) for over a year now, and never had any trouble with it. A few days ago, I needed to print something but wasn't able to (I can't remember what the error said, it didn't happen again) so I uninstalled the printer and re-installed it by downloading the drivers from the HP website. Pop-up balloon said that it wasn't successfully installed and when I would try to install the driver by going to print management and click on Printers I would get: "An error has occurred on the script of this page. Line: 40. Char: 21. Error: Object doesn't support property or method 'SetPrinterName'. Code: 0. URL: res://C:\Windows\system32\pmcsnap.dll/81". So I clicked on Drivers instead and tried to install the driver there and it said: windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error.

Do understand that I have no idea what I'm doing whenever my computer doesn't behave as it is supposed to, and everything is done by trial and error; mostly error. For some reason I felt the need to do a chkdsk /f /r which was scheduled on the next restart, b... Read more

I had no problems with Customer Preview, everything worked, but, I must say that this Release Preview is another story all together. My PC hardware configuration is unchanged since installing Windows 7 when it came on to the market.

1. Doing a clean install did not install a clean installation of Windows 8. It took three attempts. Previous wallpaper, user login avatars, etc. kept showing up in the new supposedly clean install, even when installing with a local account.

2. At shut down I am constantly getting a winlog.exe error stating that I need to insert a disk in to various empty drives. This stops the computer from shutting down. The error message appears 18 times and has to be clicked away every time it appears. The OS shuts down but my computer hardware keeps running [fans, disks, etc.] I fear I may have to get rid of Windows 8 RP before it ruins my entire PC.

3. After the OS has shut down the computer itself will not switch the power of. The computer light showing disk activity is constantly on, even though the OS has been shut down.

I'm going to have to give up on this OS. This release candidate is not working at all well on my setup. Highly peculiar, especially as I had no issues with the Customer Preview and nothing has been changed in my PC hardware setup.

A:Release Preview - Nothing but problem after problem after problem.

Hello Rich,

I know you said clean install, but just to check, did you delete the old Windows 8 CP drive/partition so it will be "Unallocated Space", then reinstalled Windows 8 RP?

Did you use a local user account or a Microsoft account? If Microsoft account, then that would be why you got your user picture back since it synced with your Windows Live ID and used the same one.

Ok il try to make this as brief as possilbe.

Sister clicked a stupid website link today on my laptop. Started doing weird things.

Now when i boot it up a popup appears saying google installer has encountered a problem. You know when it asks wheither to send error report or not. Now for the weird parts

It wont let me run any anti-virus removal software. I can run IE/Firefox ok. Even when i go into their folder and change the .exe filename to something like fluffy it opens them for like 5 secs and when i run the scan it closes str8 away.

Again when i search for anything on google about the problem i get a message saying my connection has been reset. Obv the virus/trojan is doing this.

Now i try to reboot in safe mode and it wont let me do it either. Im going insane here.

I cant even do a PC recovery because it says the recovery partition cannot be found.

Any ideas are most welcome

Have you done a Search for DSOUND.dll ?

There should be copies in at least 2 other places.

If so, copy and paste one to the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

Hello, so I just got a new ISP yesterday and everything seemed to be working fine, until today. I haven't made any changes (no new updates on security/anti-virus programs). I have wireless internet access (it says it's connected and the diagnose tool can't identify a problem). My main browser is Chrome, but I have Internet Explorer and Firefox. For all three browsers, I can't connect to any websites, except for I have enabled cookies for Chrome, deleted the cache, and have added that program to my firewall's list of accepted programs, and it still won't load pages. However, programs like Spotify, Hulu Desktop, VLC updates, etc that need an internet connection work fine (also, I saved a session in chrome of opened tabs from yesterday and they loaded perfectly fine, but if I try and type them in a new window, they won't load). I have an ethernet cable too, but I don't understand how the programs that need an internet connection work (ex: Spotify radio, Skype,), but my browsers won't.

I don't know if these programs have anything to do with my browsing problem, but I have: CCleaner, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials), and I recently removed McAffee. For my firewall program, I just have Windows Firewall with Advanced Security

Hi guys,

About two months ago I bought an Acer TimelineX laptop (the 11.6" version with the i7 core.) Last night it started havong some vicious problems. It will instantly shut down or freeze with the current displayed graphics being very distorted, seemingly at random intervals. I suspect a hardware problem because a few minutes before all this started I noticed the cover protecting the internal components was out of place, so I snapped it back into position.

I tried running some of the pre-boot Windows diagnostics, but they came up clean. The system crashed once during this process and gave me a blue screen of death that said "PFN_LIST_CORRUPT". I ran a diagnostic on the memory and it came up clean as well. I'm thinking I might have broken some critically important piece of hardware. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks!

A:Problem with Acer TimelineX turning off/freezing, suspect a hardware problem

A few silly ideas that i've tried with my Acer ..
try taking the battery out !..
just run it off the lead..
I've been told its something to do with a hardware issue with the standby mode of the fan or the CPU or some standby/neutral position that some gizmo inside does (have you guessed that I'm no techie ;o)
Try it out, it could be a simple (if not permanent) fix.
Good luck

Can anyone help me please?
A few days ago when i tried to play an audio on my computer it was making nonsense sound, like crackling or something like that (this was just when i was running any file, including movie or music and when it was supposed to have some normal voice inside the speaker).
A few days later, i had a noisy screen (not a voice noise). the screen was like in grids and the grid lines were made of white dots. This happens not only after windows boot, but from the first moment i power the system on. during boot process as well as when in windows window.
After a short time in windows the BLUE SCREEN appears and says nvlddmkm.sys not working properly. well, this is about nvidia VGA driver i guess. BUT if it's a driver problem i shouldn't have it while in boot and when windows has not yet started + what was that sound problem then? are these two problems related to each other?
I've checked the monitor, it works well with other systems, and also this chasis has the same problem when connected to other monitors.
it was a long time i hadn't opened the chases, to try to fix these problem i opened it and found it completely dusty, i thought this may have caused overheating problem and thus the motherboard damage which has led to my "ONBOARD" SOUND and also nVidia VGA defects. i checked the bios hardware check, after about 10 minutes of system turned on, it showed 38 deg. Celsius.
Anyone can suggest me anything, have you had similar probl... Read more

Vista home premium worked fine on my computer for several months, I have an intel core 2 e4400 2.0ghz processor, 3 (1) gig kingston ram, intel dg965wh board, 250gb western digital harddrive, and a geforce 7600 graphics card. Vista home premium, norton antivirus, and office 2003

a few days ago my computer did somthing funny, it slowed down and when i put my coursor over the internet connection icon it said server execution failed. after searching the web and my computer for answers i decided to reinstall vista, i did a clean install and the problem seemed to be fixed, when i looked at the icon it said not connected to a network instead of server execution failed.

Vista seemed to load fine and fast, but when it loaded completly the programs were very slow, When the welcome center loaded i clicked connect to the internet option, and after waiting about three minute for the connection options to load, i clicked connect to a wireless network and immediatly the program stopped responding.

Along with the internet troubles i tried to install some of my software like: pinnacle HDTV pci card, adobe, microsoft flight simulator. The issue with installing my software was it would install about three-fourths of the way and then hang, eventually i would have to stop the installation.

To fix these problems i tried to reinstalled vista and the same issues occur on first boot before i installed any software.

A:Vista messed up, reinstalled, fixed problem, new problem reinstall doesnt help.

after racking my brain with possible fixes, doing memory diagnostics, formating and reinstalling vista, i finally found an a fix to the problem. The whole problem lay within the wirless usb network adapter. I just assumed that the problem was with vista not the network adapter. i figured it was with vista because the programs were slow and stopped responding.

But yesterday i went to Best Buy and bought a a new adapter and on the first try the computer connected, the programs were fast and were completly responsive, i am so happy, just upset that i didnt realize it in the first place, it could have saved me from the reinstall.

Good afternoon Tech Immortals,

I am working on a friend's computer.
The hardware setup is the following:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ 2.1GHz

2.5 GB RAM CRUCIAL (Memtest says the following about it: DDR2(64 bit)
373MHz DDR746 CAS: 5-5-15

Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT pci-e

MSI K9N6PGM2-V motherboard

The problems:

Problem1. When the computer is turned on it gives out 2 short beeps (memory error, I presume according to an Internet search). Then it loads GRUMP for Ubuntu 9 or Win XP pro
Problem2. Anything that is graphics intensive makes the computer crash or graphics get glitchy. For example videogames will either make windows crash or crash the game and exit to windows. On Ubuntu while running Compiz the OS freezes. It only crashes or glitches with graphic intensive software.

Solution tried:
For problem1. While loading GRUMP there is an option for memtest. Diagnostics came out fine, no errors.

More background information:
I've inspected the motherboard, the graphics card, ram, everything (looking at it physically for any burns or liquid spills etc)
Everything is roughly 4 months old, bought brand new when purchased.
In the past the user had the same setup except that his old graphics card (GeForce BFG TECH 8800 GT) died on him (will get further details about that in about an hour).
Replaced for graphics card mentioned above. Those problems are occurring.
The card gets warm, but not to an alarming point (I want to say around 60 degrees celcius).... Read more

EDIT:I have found a solution, using a DVI to HDMI cable on an amd card will fix this problem, this thread can now die, hopefully someone else will find it if they have this problem.

Basically, i know what the problem is, but not how to rectify it. My tv (Sceptre X235BV-FHD, a rebranded sony bravia)suffers from an EDID mismatch issue or chroma subsampling due to some form of post processing done on my tv, i'm not sure which but either way the results are the same, my colors are inaccurate, text is blurry and it's painful on my already unhealthy eyes, in HDMI at least, vga is normal.

That said, i know how to fix it on nvidia cards, i used the method posted in this tutorial to disable audio over hdmi:
Cropped, off-center display at native 1900x1200 resolution on LG245WP and/or LG246WP monitors with recent NVIDIA drivers

The problem is, i recently upgraded to an amd card, and while i tried to use the pixel format to fix this, the amd drivers do not fix it, not only that but the registry edit to disable audio over hdmi that i used on nvidia cards no longer works(basically, if it sends audio over hdmi it causes my tv to think it's looking at a cable box or game system, not my pc), or the registry entry i need to input is different, or in a different location.
I have heard that i can permanently disable audio over hdmi through editing the EDID with this tutorial:
Force DVI/HDMI resolutions and refresh rates

However, i do not know what i must do to edit the EDID to pe... Read more

A:Yahoo Messenger/Logitech Webcam Problem (was told could be a Vista problem)

Hello Matth3w

Welcome to TSF

I have seen the rest of your requests for help in different forums and not one person has asked you, Have you got Norton? Has your partner got Norton?

If so then you/your partner need to give Norton permission to allow the yahoo web cam facility.

The error message is actually being transmitted from your side telling the other computer that your blocking it because you haven't yet accepted it as a safe device/service

1. You can change these settings in through Windows Firewall

Control Panel\Security\windows Firewall

2. Select Change Settings and select the Exceptions tab.

3. Look down the list to find Yahoo Messenger or relating programs and check the box to the left of it

4. If you cannot find Yahoo Messenger or relating programs select Add Program and search through the Program File to add it.

5. Once checked select Apply and Ok

6. Reboot and try the webcam, you should now be able to use it without any errors. Let me know if its a go

On my computer, for about a little bit over a week now, I've been getting the blue screen that automatically restarts the computer. The blue screen text goes by so fast I can't even read it. I found out online that it was the SmitFraud, so I checked out the guide and downloaded the SmitFraudFix.exe. When I ran it in safe mode, it started working, but then it disappeared and all of my icons and everything on safe mode disappeared. The safe mode screen became a black screen with the words safe mode in the four corners, and I think there was the computer type or something on the top center of the screen. I couldn't run the fix properly in safe mode because after I tried running the fix, safe mode is not useable anymore.
What I tried to do was let my malwarebytes and my anti virus try to detect it, but they couldn't find it. I was thinking of system restoring my computer back 2 weeks, but I also couldn't find the restore points( as there weren't any). What can I do to get rid of the problem? It's really annoying.

GeForce GTX690 GPU
Intel 520 series SSD
Dell U2711 27" Monitor
Win 7 Pro

I can move icons/windows up, right, left perfectly smoothly - HOWEVER

When I try to move them down, OR try to grab a scroll bar with the mouse and move it down, OR try the resize a window (either by grabbing the top or btm of the window) in a downward motion it will move between a few mm to a few cm then stop - and I have to regrab it with the mouse .... it can take a dozen attemtps to move a window or an icon to the bottom of the screen.

In fact moving sideways with a downward motion causes the same problem.

Any movement to the right, left or up moves totally smoothly......

Any suggestions? It's doing my head in !!

(NB. All motherboard, GPU, windows files are fully up to date.)

It seems to me that we are having BSoD errors here. First I would like you to start up in Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key. Then use the arrow keys to choose Safe Mode and then Choose your OS. Boot up into your computer and click Start. Right click My Computer and hit Properties. Then in System Properties click the Advanced Tab. Under Startup and Recovery click Settings. When I set the power option on my pc to have the monitor turn off after so many minutes it does not work. What I mean is that the monitor goes black for one second then comes back on. This problem just started a few days ago. I posted a thread on another forum and someone suggested I run msconfig and inspect the startup tab to see if there was something in there that might be causing the problem. I saw three things in there that I had uninstalled ... nero, incd, and sagetv. I cleared the checkboxes for those three then clicked okay. That is when things started going really bad. I immediately got an error message saying that I may need administrator privelages to make the changes. I am the admin on this computer, I have been since I installed XP. When I clicked okay on that box I was prompted to restart the computer which I did. When it rebooted I then got a message that said major hardware changes had taken place since the last time XP was started and that I had to reactivate XP. No hardware changes were made at all so this totally baffles me. I still can't make changes in msconfig and I am being reminded about every 5 minutes that I need to reactivate XP. I know this was a long winded post but I wanted to be sure and get as much info in there as I could. If you have any suggestions or questions I would love to hear them.

My first problem is that, apparently, you cannot make the screen brighter on some lenovo laptops with windows 8. The Brightness- button is working, but once you make the screen dimmer, you cannot make it bright again using the brightness settings. I found out however that you can revert by rolling back some drivers. It worked every time when my screen would get dimmer for whatever reason. Yet, yesterday, it happened again and I forgot what to do about it and I ended up uninstaling the Intel Graphics 4000 driver from my computer by mistake. When I tried reinstalling it, it would display the following message:
"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"
I thought that I could undo all of this adventure of mine by using the system restore and revert back long before this all started. However, every time I tried to use system restore it wouldn't work, due to "error 0x80070005", recommending that I turn off my antivirus in order for the system restore to be able to access a certain file. I went as far as uninstalling anything reminescent of an antivirus from my computer and disabling windows defender. However, it is still not working, displaying the same error.

So, here is what I need help with:
Solving the error code 31 of my display adapte driver.
Solving the error 0x80070005 of the system restore

Any of these are appreciated. Thank you.

Open the PC, then switch it on. Check that all fans (in the powersupply, on the CPU, perhaps also on the graphics card and the motherboard) are running.
If not, tell us which one is not working.
Most likely your powersupply no longer works. Give us the manufacturer's name and model, please.

I'm not sure if its a driver, graphics card, or BIOS problem, so sorry if this is the wrong section

Anyways, my problem is with my graphic display. My graphics seem to be like cut up in sections with white or red lines through them, but in some places, they're perfectly fine. Here I'll show you some pictures:

As you can see, the graphics are fine on the desktop, but weird in the folder view of the desktop.

Here, you can see the the graphic problem is in Internet Explorer, but in firefox, it is perfectly fine.

It also happens in games, for example in World of Warcraft

If you look behind the log in screen, you can see the lines... and if you have played WoW before you know that those lines aren't suppost to be there.

I don't know what the problem is. I've tried changing my screen resolution, and everything that has come to mind.

If anyone knows whats wrong or have any solutions, please help. This has been going on for a few months now but I didn't have time to fix it.

My computer, Dell optiplex 760 Windows 7 Professional 32-bit, is crashing. The crashes often happen when i'm playing this game, League of legends, but it also crashes at random points while on a social media or gaming websites.

Basically, I have a HP Pavilion laptop, only 4 months old, pretty good specs, running on windows vista. At first, it was working like a dream, and I didnt believe what I was hearing about problems with vista. However, recently, I have noticed that anything I plug in2 any of the usb drives (be it ipod, external hard drive, or even a brand new printer) isnt installing. They are recognised alright, but instead of installing automatically, I am prompted for a disc, and even for things which I do have the disc (eg printer), it still does not work. Things that were used before this problem cropped up, eg another ipod, another printer, a mouse, are working fine. I have spoken to HP, Microsoft, the printer manufacturers, tech guys, everyone, and the best advice I got was to backup my data and wipe everything and start again. But seeing as I can't use an external hard drive, this could prove tedious and frustrating. I would be eternally gr8ful to any1 who could offer me anything to help me out of this bind!

I have 2 issues. I don't know if they are related somehow.

1. I installed PrivaZer and deleted it. It still shows up on the right click context menu. I tried to reinstall it and deleted it again. I still have that problem. I even restarted the computer. How can I get rid of the entry?

2. When I try to click on/install some downloaded .exe files, I get a message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file." It hasn't happened with other file types yet.

I scanned for viruses and it didn't find anything. I wasn't sure what to do. Thank you.

A:Context menu item problem and accessing files problem

When you said you installed it then deleted it. Do you mean you uninstalled it ? If you deleted then there are left over to be cleaned, You must uninstall not delete.

Please download: ShellExView - Shell Extension Manager For Windows . Right click and run as Admin, locate the extension in question. If you double click it, it will tell you where it is stored on the HD, you can disable first then delete.

i recently recovered from and deleted from my computer the 'Windows Police Pro' virus, using Spyware Doctor and manually deleting all the files. Except now when i go to start->run->cmd it says "c:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe Application not found" but it is in the right place and it will run with right click> administrator.
Most other files/apps etc will bring up the 'Open With - choose the program you want to use to open this file' dialog too, unless i am able to right click > run as administrator. The reccomended program is usually internet explorer, and the "always use this program to open..." check box is greyed out.
I think it might possibly be something in regedit, but can't be sure

Hoping somebody can help with this problem which despite trawling through these very helpful forums & tutorials, I have been unable to resolve. I have tried to include all the information possible although I am relatively new to this field so my terminology is probably not completely accurate. If any further information would be useful I would be glad to post it.

My unmodified msi u130 netbook is about 18 months old and has been working perfectly.
Yesterday when performing a standard operation online (uploading an image to a facebook event) the screen went black and the laptop instantly powered down. This is the first time the system has spontaneously powered itself down.
I restarted the system, which loaded as normal, I managed to get back online (although with less programs running) and next time I tried to upload the same image again on the same website this time the screen went white and the same instant power down occurred. I also experienced an unusual (hot or burning) smell coming from the netbook. Having replaced my screen a few weeks earlier I opened up the case to have a look to see if anything inside appeared burnt out but was unable to see any visible difference, nor any obvious hardware issue.

Since reassembling, which I am confident I did correctly (as I am about the previous screen installation) upon turning the computer on I get the usual pre-boot manufacturers screen (black with msi logo, with options to run setup, boot menu, recovery menu). Win... Read more

Hi Guys I have just installed a second hard drive to my system, and upon reboot a black screen appears advising “ no boot device detected” In the BIOS the boot order has changed to (1) Floppy. (2) Lan, (3) Lan, (4) Lan. In the CMOS splash screen upon start-up no drives are recognised, displaying NONE for all. My system is a Dell Dimension 2350 P.4 running XP sp3. 1GB RAM. In this installation setup I have an 80GB HDD set to Master jumper setting and a 20GB HDD ( 2nd HDD) set to Slave.
Prior to the installation of the 2nd HDD the 80GB booted OK, and the BIOS settings were (1) Floppy (2) Hard Disc (3) CD ROM (4) Lan.
One thing I should mention this system has just come back from a computer shop where I had XP sp3 installed due to a mishap on the original Hdd which destroyed the Operating system. The XP sp3 system which came back from the shop had Acronis True Image installed on it? I was going to clone the new system to my 20 GB using my own Acronis software, as a backup, because I would not have a disc to recover to if anything went wrong in the future. Anyone got any ideas on this puzzle, or diagnostic ability. All help welcomed.

Hi I recently made a mistake and I did a full HP system restore and lost alot of my programs and have had to reinstall them. Some programs are there still but just seem messed up somewhat, like my Cute Html editor program.

Suddenly, where there used to be the tabs you clicked on that would auto-arrange my .htm files in the navigation pane, arent there anymore. Im a web designer so this is crucial for me, as I use this program every day. But I used Cute Html version 2.3 and there isnt any support anymore for that.

Does anyone have a clue how I can get those tabs back on there?

Also, there isnt any file extension on the .jpg or .gif files or the .htm files. They used to be there. Also what used to be .jpg files is now .jpeg and Im having to change them on all my html pages.

Any idea on how to fix these problems?

Hi, I'm in need of figuring out if my laptop was infected by a trojan, the operating system went kapoot and i need to reinstall it, or if its hardware failure. I used it last night and my AVG caught a "small trojan horse" called cryptbase.dll and after removing it i believe is where it began. My computer restarted and ended up starting up with the acer splash with me able to click f2 for setup. But f8 doesn't work and causes a long beeping noise if i leave it alone it goes to a black screen with a underscore blinking at the top left. i've done some research but, im unsure which route to take without taking some advice for my own laptop. My laptop is a Acer Aspire 5741-3541, Windows 7,intel core i5-450 processor, 4 GB DDR memory, 500 GB HDD. if you need more information please ask because im unsure with what is needed to fix the problem. The solutions i've heard is reinstalling windows 7, or it might be a HDD problem. Thank you.

I ordered a computer and ordered this processor:

and this motherboard:

I'm just wondering if they're compatible. They work, but maybe they're not working like how they're supposed to?

I got the computer in and put it together and I'm having troubles with it. It seems to run good and whatnot doing simple tasks, but in a game I play (Diablo 3) when I'm in the game my character lags and skips everywhere. It'll go good for like 5-10 seconds, then lag around for a while, then back to normal. It's not the video card because I tested it in my friend's computer and it works just fine. It sounds like a video problem though.

This is the ram I ordered with the motherboard and processor.

The hard drive is my old hard drive, and it has windows xp 32 bit (which I re-formatted and installed with the motherboard). I know my game works with it because I had windows xp 32 bit on my old computer and it ran it just fine, along with the video card. The only things new are the motherboard, processor, power supply, and ram. The video card is almost 2 years old. I'm just stumped on what the problem is and why my video games run so much worse than they did in my old computer. I could have everything ALMOST high graphics and now with my new computer part... Hiya and welcome to Tech Support Guy

Are you still having this problem? If so, can you do the following:

Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop

Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

Hi everyone

I need to see if anyone has a solution to my problem. I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and my granddaughter has a Dell Inspiron i15-157B. I added her laptop to our wireless network (Linksys wireless-G broadband router model WRT54GS). Everything works fine as long as she's here in our home, but when she goes home and we try to connect our webcams through Yahoo Messenger, I can see and hear her just fine. She can see me but can't hear me. Why would it work here and not there? I'm wondering if it's something with our home network.

Her laptop at home is connected directly to the internet, but they will be setting up a wireless router also. We both use Vista.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I clicked into "Advanced Settings" and got the same message above with the yellow background.
Something is going on here and wonder if you can give me any information on how to change this back to me and tell me where I look to find out what/who has taken over as the Admin.

Hi all,

I really need your help urgently.

My brand new PC, just died this weekend.
When starting it up it stays on the start-up screen for 30 secs, then goes black and the text, Insert Bootable Disc blah blah..something...Whatever key I press it just repeats the message and I cannot get the computer to start at all.
It also sounds a bit strange, you can hear the disc spinning louder than usual when starting up, and I am getting really really worried about this.

I've got soo many things on my computer that I don't want to lose.
Please could someone help.

Maybe there is some sort of file I can put on a floppy and boot from that?
Just to get in and then clear whatever virus or bug is doing this to it.

Please help.
Many thanks

Windows 7 Professional

Haven't had the need to use my printer in a couple of weeks, so I don't know when the problem started. It is a Brother HL-2270DW that has been problem free. There are tests that can be tried using the printer itself and it says it has a good connection and should be functioning.

Nevertheless, when I click on print, the available choices are Microsoft XPS Document writer and Fax; the Brother unit is not included as an option. When I enter the control panel and look at the devices, my printer is mentioned with a Troubleshooting necessary indicated, but letting the troubleshooter do its job does not provice any suitable result.

I returned to a restore point the 23 of this month, but am not wanting to go much further back, because except for the printer problem, my computer is working great, and I don't want to remove necessary updates, etc. that might create a whole new problem.

I have shut down for half minute and restarted the printer to see if it might provide a benefit, but when I restart the printer, it's self trouble shooting feature suggest that the unit is both attached and working properly. Toner is over 90% remaining. BTW it is wifi and my router seems to be working perfectly. Drivers are latest.

Thanks for any input!

A:Printer problem needs guru. Looks like Windows not Brother problem.

Do you have it setup as a wireless printer? If so, reinstall the printer driver but use a USB cable initially.
Once that is working then setup wireless.

If you don't have the CD or can't find it, the drive is available from the Brother web site (I have the same printer).

When I go on my computer (dell xps labtop, running windows xp) , my internet works fine, however some websites will not load. Websites such as facebook, yahoo, and myspace will not load while other websites such as this one will. Google only works if I search something immediatly after I open the browser, after waiting a couple minutes it will no longer work. When these sites get stuck at loading the bar at the bottum of the screen remains at the beginning. I use Internet Explorer and firefox, and the problem exists in both. My internet is working fine and there are no firewall problems, or any security problems as well. I'm not very knowledgable with computers so please keep your answers simple

Hello Everyone,
I am new to this forum. I am hoping someone maybe able to help me diagnose and fix the problem with this problem. I have a problem with Acer Aspire One Network Adapter. The problem is that the netbook will connect to the internet and will have full bars for internet connectivity. Then a few minutes later it will just disconnect on it's own! I can usually reconnect by going on the Network & Sharing Center, then going into Diagnose problems, then clicking on Network Adapter, then after it resets, it will usually reconnect to the Internet, but lately it won't reconnect! I then have to restart the netbook. The netbook is running Windows 7 Starter, and it has Atheros AR5BXB63 Network Adapter. My friend who is a computer person searched online to confirm if the drivers were up to date, said that was not the problem. I would like any advise anyone can give me to see if this netbook can be fixed before I have to buy another! Please advise?

Hi and welcome

I had a similar problem regarding Spyware Programs placing the two shields in my bottom desktop tray. I used Stopzilla to clean this up. It also removed many trouble winnt and internet system issues that I was having. However when I try use my Comcast Desktop doctor, I would get a message that says Symantec Blocking Script which prohibits me from using the diagnostic problems. With Hi Jack identifying the program, I will save it to my notepad and go back to remove it from the system.

Yesterday i was surfing net when suddenly my system stopped responding. I waited for 5-10 mins but it dint come back so i pressed the reset button and that's where i guess i made a mistake. Since then whenever i try to start my pc a black screen appears saying "Select a proper boot device to boot".

I checked the boot device priority in the BIOS and found out that HDD is missing from there. However sometimes it shows itself there but still the system comes up with the same message. Someday's back i faced the same problem but that time the problem was solved when i unpluged my HDD and plugged it back. But now it is not working at all.

Can someone please tell me what is the problem with it? Is there any problem with my HDD or motherboard??

A:Hard Disk Problem. problem in booting. HDD not recognized

Most likely the hard drive. If it won't appear in BIOS, there is nothing you can do. You can't even test it. You'll have to take it out and connect it to another machine for testing.

I think it should be related to this forum because I think the problem is something with AppData \ Permissions which is related to Windows 7.

I'm having a problem while running\installing Visual C++. The problem started 2 days ago, it did work before.
When I'm trying to run I'm getting this error:
"The Application Data folder for Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Express could not be created"

I tried any solutions over the net (solutions like devenv I couldn't operate because I didn't find the file but any other Appdata solutions I could operate but no good result).
I ran Process Monitor while my filter is a process name of "VCExpress.exe"
I found a lot of "Name Not Found" results.

This isn't your average bold font / italics problem. This problem doesn't occur in windows folders or anything, it happens in only a few programs. It happens in Ventrilo ( and it happens in Sony Vegas which cuts off my window ( .

You may notice that if you've ever used those programs, the fonts aren't bold like that. My DPI is at 100%, I've tried re-installing my fonts, setting the default settings, and it doesn't change with themes. I want to avoid re-installing windows, and if that's the only option, I guess I'm just gonna have to live with it. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I wanted to try to update the bios from A5 to A9 . but the update is a -executable file that performs the first phase but remains stuck in the reboot . P.S. Man this is getting frustrating. At one particular website,, Firefox won't load the pages. Almost every time, I get the screen in my attached picture. But then I usually hit try again or reload and it usually loads right the second time. Every once in a while it takes a 2nd or 3rd try to load. Since I have dial-up, this is really frustrating because I hate waiting on it. Many times, the page is already like 95% loaded and then the Problem Loading Page screen shows up, like out of no where. And it's not like this site's pages take a long time to load either, they take about the same time to load as most other sites. Is there any way to fix this?

My major problem is that I have two user accounts and I can't get rid of one of them. On startup my screen shows the icon of the sunflower and underneath that the words :

At the bottom of the window are the words : 'User account control helps stop unauthorized changes to your computer'

When I click on 'Continue' I get a screen indicating that I have two accounts : 'toshiba Administrator' and a 'Guest' with an option to turn it on. So far I have been unable to delete this 'Guest account'.

I have also been unable to delete a program : 'ARO 2012'. I get similar results to the above when I try to delete the unwanted program using the Uninstall procedure in the Control Panel, except the 'Details' option brings up :

Two problems that I think might be related:

1. Every time I start up my computer, I get the Run DLL error message referencing ljjjg.dll.

I believe the ljjjg.dll is a driver that has to do with Trojan.Vundo.

2. So, I attempted to run the Trojan.Vundo Removal Tool by Norton to possibly get rid of the problem. I right clicked the Removal Tool icon and clicked on "Run As Administrator".

I then clicked on "Start" and then the error message with reference code R6034 popped up.

Unfortunately, I believe I am infected with Trojan.Vundo, but other than these two error messages, my computer runs fine.

Any suggestions?

Now, I'm new to this forum, and if you need more information, just let me know what it is, and I'll reply with it.

Thanks guys...

SOOOO. Few questions...

I have an MSI FX420 running Windows 7 Pro SP1 32-bit

1. Seems like my built-in webcam isn't functioning even if I try to turn it on via Fn+F6 (the hotkey). There's also a bunch of drivers that seem to be missing in Device Manager.

Where can I go to make sure I have the latest drivers? People say not to use a 3rd party Driver Updater tool. I've been using Auslogics Driver Updater simply because I am a fan of their products (I use Boost Speed and Disk Defrag).

2. chkdsk won't work. scannow /sfc found some corrupt files but whenever I try and reboot doing both chkdsk/f and chkdsk /f AND chdskdsk /f /r, it always tells me the disk checking has been cancelled. Not sure what to do. I tried going into safe mode with command prompt but it told me the drive was locked and was in use. Recovery console didn't work (Bitdefender has its own recovery mode)...the command terminal it provides doesn't even recognize the chkdsk command.

3. What do you guys recommend for cleaning and optimization? I have CCleaner and Auslogics Boostspeed. CCleaner seems like a small tool that cleans thoroughly and has great reviews and uses very little memory in the background while it actively monitors your system (though I'm not exactly sure what it monitors). Boostspeed has some nifty tools that claims to smooth out your system but uses a lot of memory in the background (Driver Upater also uses up a lot of memory).

1.Know your products name and search for drivers manually.
Don't use any third-party driver updating software. It's bloatware.

2.I would suggest to back your data and reinstall Windows.

3.Cleaning and optimization:
-CCleaner (disabled monitoring,I don't need that)
-Disk cleanup
-Disk defragment

4.I heard for Bootracer, but I've never used it and I don't know will it suit your needs.

5.I used MyDefrag and I was quite satisfied.I suggest it.
Additionally,Windows disk defragment does pretty fine job also.

I have since a cupple of days the following problems with my computer:

When i boot it up and the windows password shreen comes, i cant log in because the part of the logon screen with the username, password field, password hint etc. is missing.... here a screen shot of it (yea, its in german...guesse were I am from!):

So I logged in by pressing ctr+alt+delete twice. I used the username that was in the loginbox and since I don't even have a windows password (!), I just lett the passwordfield free and I could log in without problems. later I noticed that the account I loged in to has not admin rights but is only an visitor account. Unfortunately I dont remember what my login name is since you dont have to type it in on regular bases in windows xp.

After that I tried to boot up the computer in safe moode to get to the account "administrator" which is without password. But my safemoode seems not to be working too! I just used it several days ago and everything was ok. But now, when i boot it up in safemoode the computer turns itself of right before the loogin schreen comes!

I did several things with my computer right before I had these problems that could in my oppinion possibly have something to do with my problems.
I addded a password to my useraccount but i made up my minde and deleted it right away again.
I also did some work with the regestry, but I dont realy think that that schould have anything to do with my problems since I was very... Read more

Than I whent to Start/ Run and whent to "control userpasswords2". My username was in the group "debugger users" instead of "administrators". I changed this and now everything is normal again!

I am still wondering how this happend and why i could not enter the savemoode (and why it probably worked again)..... if anybody has ideas, i would be interested!

Browser redirect problem and no DSLI have a browser redirect problem. Google and Yahoo searches would randomly go to an ad site with a list of links rather than to the link I clicked. Sometimes a tab would spontaneously start up and go to an ad site. The ad site doesn't appear to be the same site each time. The links on the ad site seem to be somewhat related to my search. The redirect doesn't happen on all search links. This problem happens in both IE 8 and Firefox 3.6.6.I ran full scans with Spybot, Ad Aware and Norton which came up clean. I noticed my version of Norton wasn't the latest and downloaded Norton 360 after contacting Norton to see if I was entitled to that version since I'm subscribed to Norton. I ran a scan with the Norton 360 and it didn't find anything. But then my DSL connection stopped working. The Local Area connection is stuck on Acquiring Network Address. I noticed that the IP address was Contacted Norton and tried deleting and recreating the LAN connection but that didn't correct the problem. Norton advised uninstalling 360 and contacting Verizon. Verizon tried several things including using ipconfig and deleting and recreating the LAN connection, That didn't correct the problem. Verizon thought it might be my modem since it was an old model and sent out a new modem. Tried connecting with the new modem and that didn't work. Verizon sent out another modem but I haven't tried that out yet. I want to get rid of... Read more

Cannot remember password, OR typed it in wrong on both entries. When I use the tool for recovering/resetting the password. The system takes me to a reset function, where I am able to put in a new password twice, but the screen that follows does not show successful entry, but rather one block asking me to enter the old password. Cannot break this loop. Have been running W10 for 2-3 months and cannot roll back computer.

Cannot understand why system calls for "old password" when I do not know the old password, which is the reason for trying to create a new one.

Please some help to recover the password, OR remove the Windows Live account logging on

Although this password problem is recent, I have never been able to get to the store.

I created a whole new Live Account, but I cannot break into the login process to change the user. Also can do contro-alt-del, to switch user, but this also does not work.

Are you getting any 'link light' on the card you plug the cable into? Usually a little green light or Amber I think it is on Dell. If you are not I suggest trying a different cable from your modem to your PC.

Also, is your PC directly connected to the modem or into a router?

And when setting your IP address are you going to Start --> Control Panel --> Network Connections?

The problem has been for more than two weeks now, and it is only in the firefox browser,
Here are some examples:

1. When I went to youtube I see the same image on many unrelated videos, example below,
I found that when I put the mouse over one of the images it returns to the original image of the video,

Another example is on eBay (look at the background):

It's quite annoying, so if anyone knows how to solve it, I'd very much appreciate it,

Many thanks

A:firefox display problem,i will try to describe the problem with images

No idea, having never seen anything about this oddity; given that, I suggest that you start here:

Standard diagnostic - Firefox - MozillaZine Knowledge Base

Try this, then report your findings; perhaps this will lead to a solution.
