Q: How to disable the drop down (Spotlight screen) on lock and login screen in windows 10

Hi All,
Please kindly let me know how could i stop the spotlight (drop-down) screen in windows 10 using registry settings.
Means while we lock the computer or while we restart the computer then there one screen appears then we press "Space" and then went to up and then we can see the login credential page to login to the windows. I need to disable the same screen using
registry change".

I have tried with the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\
Right-click the Windows folder and click New > Key. Name this new key "Personalization" and then navigate inside it.

but still i am getting the drop-down screen in windows i want to disable the screen it should not appears on the login page.
please let me know how could i disable that screen.
OR
If we can increase the time for the screen then how we can increase the time to display the screen.

Thanks & Regards,

Hey guys,

I'm new here but i'm also on the Windows 7 and Windows 8 forums too.

Anyways, i got a new laptop and installed the Facebook app from the Windows Store and it asked me if i wanted to sync my Facebook profile picture and cover photo as the user photo and lock screen picture. I didn't mean to click yes as my cover photo at the time was a stupid one. I've tried uninstalling the Facebook app to make the lock screen picture go away and used the control panel to manually change back to Windows Spotlight. But it still does not change. Whenever i restart my laptop the stupid picture of Ainsley Harriot comes up before the logon screen, but when i lock my laptop it shows the Spotlight. It's weird. I'm new to Windows 10 so i'm unsure what the issue is here.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Atif

A:Lock Screen Does Not Change To Windows Spotlight.

Hi Atif,

Glad you are also joining the Ten Forums

Yes, I've noticed the old lock screen picture still shows up even though the Spotlight is selected and works for whenever the PC sleeps or is locked.

The way to change this is to go back to the Lock Screen settings and select Picture and change it to something other than the one you dislike. Then once the new picture is registered you can reselect Spotlight.

If one of the Spotlight pictures particularly appeals to you you can find it and then select it as a Picture by following the information in this tutorial:

also right below the options for lock screen are options to choose apps for detailed status and apps for quick status, I have also never seen these work anywhere, any help?

A:lock screen - windows spotlight option not working

I believe the Windows 10 sign in image must be disabled first, as I've never been able to get a customization to stick without disabling it

To disable the sign in image, open regedit (winkey + R, then regedit) and copy/paste the following into the nav bar:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System
Create new DWORD:
DisableLogonBackgroundImage
Set value data: 1
For spotlight, are you setting it simply to allow a custom lock screen image, or do you want to use the actual spotlight feature, which pulls images randomly from Bing depending on your preferences? If it's the latter, someone else will need to chime in as I've never wanted or used that.

However, if it's the former, and you're simply looking to utilize your own custom image for the lock screen:
Navigate to C:\Windows\Web\Screen and paste your custom image
Rename the pasted image to img100.1
You cannot simply replace one of the 6 default images, as SFC and certain updates will delete the file since it won't have parity with the WinSxS component store.I recommend renaming it img100.x, as that will ensure it's the first image shown in Settings - Personalization - Lock screen
In regards to showing app statuses on the lock screen:

If it's an app that shows internet content (Weather, News, Feeds, Facebook, etc), I've always had to open the app once on the desktop and allow it load in order for a firewall rule to be created. Once done, it should show content on the lockscreen. In regards to... Read more

With the anniversary update, the spotlight feature works on Login screen as well (yay!!)

But... anecdotal evidence indicates that currently the Windows Spotlight will ONLY change pictures at a later time after you have invoked the lock screen at least once.

But the problem is, not everyone has a habit of going to the lock screen daily (like me with my home machine that basically doesn't need to be locked, unlike in an office environment). As it is now, if I want to see a new spotlight picture for my power-up login screen, the only way that works for me is to go to the LOCK screen on purpose after I have signed in, then go back to desktop immediately. Then on the next day, I will most likely see a new picture for my login screen.

.... Why do I have to lock my screen JUST for the sake of seeing a new spotlight picture on my login screen?? Or have I missed anything here?

I have an unusual situation the I would like to run by the group on this forum.

I have Windows 8.1 Pro running on a 64-bit machine. The machine had Windows 8 loaded when I bought it last year and then I upped it to Win 8.1 when it was released. I recently went through the process of disabling the Lock Screen through the Group Policy editor and also verified that the associated Registry Key has the correct value. I then rebooted the computer. By the way, these instructions came from Microsoft and are posted on their support site.

The problem is the lock screen is still active and I have to enter a password as was the case before I made these changes. Does anyone has any thoughts on what's going on in this situation? Why did the changes not take effect?

Any guidance will be appreciated.

I'm not going to rant about how much I hate Windows 8. I've wasted countless hours already; no sense in wasting any more time on this nonsense.

How does one go about disabling the COMPLETELY RETARDED Windows 8 Lock Screen??????????????
This simply does not work:

My computer has absolutely NO IDEA what that is; it is completely impossible to navigate there.
Similarly, this does not no do anything whatsoever:

I've wasted 1.5 hours on this tonight, and countless hours between 12/25/12 and today (the laptop was a Christmas present). So far, the ONLY THING that has worked on Widows 8 is that I got it to (kind of) act like Widows 7. Try getting in this way:
Hit Windows+W and type GROUP into the search. It will show an icon called EDIT GROUP POLICY. Click it and follow the instructions you showed here How to Eliminate the Time-Wasting Lock Screen in Windows 8
I followed the tutorial and RESTARTED my PC and it works fine. Lock screen gone.
See screenshot:
Give it a go, I think you'll find it works.

You can also disable the prompt for password from sleep or hibernation in power settings too if you want.

When I log into Window 8.1 the num lock is always off. Same thing continues in Win 8.1 after I upgraded to Win 8.

When the boot is complete (HP m7-j010DX) the num lock is still off.  This is a higher end HP laptop and I am also blown away they pinched pennys to remove the on/off light on the num lock making the confusion worse.

This is driving me crazy as every PC I have used in the last 20 years has always started with the num lock on   and had an "On" light.  I continue to get stuck at boot up or can't figure out when my passwords won't work after login. It is a huge time waster.

A:Windows 8.1, Num Lock Off at Login Screen

Just a qwerk of 8. You can change that behavior in the Registry, so that it is on all the time. Also check the bios settings. Some machines allow you to set the NumLock to 'On' state in there.

Hi

I have installed Win 10 as an upgrade on a seperate partition to my Win 8.1. Win 10 is x64 version and Win 8.1 is 32 bit. As far as I can tell this puzzle started when I upgraded the x64 partition to Win 10. Now when my lock screen appears and I click the mouse for the password box there is a back arrow next to my user name. Pressing this gives me a black screen, then my user name reappears without the back arrow and I login. I am using the same MS account for Win 8.1 and Win 10 TP. This doesnt happen on Win 10 lock screen/password screen. Is there anyway I can get rid of this arrow, just a niggle I know but would be nice.

This issue has plagued me since I've transitioned to Windows 8 and up. The Lock Screen feature (primarily ctrl + w) gets in the way of using certain programs. I've tried a few methods, all of which either don't work or stopped working.

Registry Editor

Local Group Policy Editor

And Winaero Tweaker
Is there any other way to disable this feature? It's the only problem I have with this OS. As I've said before, one of the methods worked fine but I feel that an update might have nullified my changes.

A:Can't Disable Lock Screen

Hi Eranthis,

Have a look at THIS article. Option #2 gives you a Registry option.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with the Registry, but if you look at trying this method, it might be a good idea to set a Restoration Point first.

Edit:
It is possible the Winaero Tweaker program might have already made some Registry adjustments for you, but you'll have to see.

Also saw this quote on the same site, however I am only passing this info on, as I've never tested any of it.

Easiest way :

Untick - Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer.

When I go into advanced settings and such all the settings to turn the password off are grayed out. When I go into the Win 8 settings - Users and go to click "anyone who uses this PC must enter a password" It has in red "Security policies on this PC are preventing you from changing this option".

How do I fix this? I have no idea which security policy its referring to out of that bazillion it offers.

Hello all,
(Disclaimer, I am a complete windows 7 noob, I've been a mac user my whole life but just switched to windows)
Whenever I log into Windows 7 the computer is sending me directly to the "computer locked" login screen instantly, as soon as I enter my password it sends me right back to the lock screen again. This repeats infinitely. I have looked for similar problems on the internet and can not seem to find anyone else that seems to be suffering from this problem.
It works fine in safe mode though. I ran a virus scan with Windows Defender and it couldn't find anything. I tried doing a system repair from the f8 boot prompt, that didn't work. I've exhausted all my efforts and I still cant seem to find a way to fix this. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm in dire need of some halp from someone who knows what they are doing. Is there any way for Groove to add songs automatically in the background without needing the phone unlocked and Groove in the foreground?

After you`ve disbaled Hibernation in the Power Options, search for and if it`s found, delete a file called

hiberfil.sys

in C drive. (Usually C:\hiberfil.sys)

The disablement of Hibernation sometimes removes the file for you but not always.

god i love win 10 i really do, if not for these few ridiculously unsolvable bugs pretty much rendering
my lappy unusable for hours at a time.

sys specs

i7-6700
12gb DDR4 RAM
nvidia GTX960M
Win 10 came preinstalled on the system, didn't start hangups until the upgrades started rolling in. Disabled that in the Admin tools. Still having the issue. On startup I get the bright cyan screen with the stupid white dot circle and "Please Wait"... on sleep mode initialization this thing doesn't even wake back up, have to hard reset and yea cyan screen with stupid white dot circle. On lock screen initialization, it will hang out with the default windows screen logo and the 3 buttons for power, accessibility and wifi access but the password field and my user name just wont appear immediately. Trying to solve this because I really don't want to roll back, but I've already backed up my system to another partition just in case I have to go back to Win 8. No BSOD's, no crashes, system runs flawlessly out of the box as it should. Only issue is the cyan screen and white spinning dots that can take up to 30 mins to 4 hours to let me login. BTW the admin user acct is local and not cloud based. IF anyone else has solved this issue I'm all ears. Thanks in advance. Have not yet uninstalled the updates either but I'm not even sure that will solve this issue, seems systemic.

I've recently reinstalled Windows 7 due to this problem, and everything was running smoothly up until today (approximately 4 days after I reinstalled the OS). This morning, I attempted to boot up my computer as usual, and it simply hardlocked as soon as the Welcome screen came up.

This hardlock only recently started happening with my PC when I hooked up a fourth monitor to my GPU, to produce a 3x1 monitor arrangement, plus my Cintiq tablet. (Currently, the Cintiq is in the shop for repairs.) When that configuration was plugged in, the computer started hardlocking. After that, I reinstalled Windows 7 over the weekend, and it was all working fine. Up until now.

There have been no BSOD's at all - even with the hard locks, and I attempted to use the driver verifier to see what was causing it, as this is my greatest suspicion. I rarely find that my computer builds have problems, though I don't have the tools to test my RAM yet (would like some help in this regard).

This is my workstation that I use for my art. I would like to resolve this ASAP before the week is over. Please help! ; 3

Have you tried the System Repair Disc you can make in Win7's Control Panel, Backup and Restore? It has to be for either 32-bit or 64-bit but your System Specs do show you have the 64-bit version of Windows. It doesn't necessarily have to be made from a specific computer.

I was infected by the Antivirus soft (expletive). Here is my original description. Still can't log into windows normally. My keyboard and mouse stop responding at the login screen and the cursor freezes. Fortunately they still work in safe mode. Hello....brand new to this, so sorry if this is posted incorrectly. Problem: tried to download harddrive cloning program to fix my laptop that was indicating an eminent hd failure. Got infected with Antivirus Soft. Realized it immediately. Downloaded PC Tools Internet Security and paid for it, according to instructions I found online with another computer. Those instructions said run scan before rebooting computer, but the program said the computer needed to be restarted to work. Against my better judgement, I restarted the computer. When windows login screen came up, both the keyboard and mouse froze before I could enter my password. Would not move or allow any data entry....just hung up. Searched for possible ways to fix this and everything indicated to boot into safe mode, which I did and fortunately both keyboard and mouse work in safe mode. Ran system scan with pc tools and it found some of the antivirus soft problems along with whatever else it found. Further researched these problems and came across malwarebytes anti-malware and downloaded it. Ran that a few times and it found some of the same stuff. Alright so for some reason ever since I've "upgraded" to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 I've been having numerous issues with my computer taking a very long time to boot and I've noticed it is logging me in sometimes without asking me for my password at boot. I really want to stop the black screens as waiting 5-10 minutes every time I turn my computer on is annoying. Also I don't see why it would log me in without prompting for my password as why else would I have a logon password? Please if someone knows how to fix my slow boot with black screen where it seems to be sometimes logging me in automatically that would be great thanks!

I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro. Everytime or almost everytime I click on an app or go to the desktop and try to get on IE 10 (desktop version), my screen flashes and goes black for a few seconds then returns me to the screen with the space needle, then I click on it and it signs me back in. When I try to use Google Chrome, the websites freeze up on me. I don't want to have to reinstall/reformat as I paid $40 for this for one, and secondly, I don't want to have to repurchase Office 2010 as my licenses ran out. Please help. I ran every update that comes up and restart, but this doesn't change this issue. I'm hoping there will be a patch or service pack or some update that will fix this. Any ideas why it does this and any way to fix it without reformatting?

A:Windows 8 Pro, screen goes black and back to lock screen

I had the same problem at first. Then one day the listing of all my apps disappeared. I did a refresh and lost a lot of programs but the files were still there. Then I noticed that the problem with the apps had fixed itself and they worked. My feeling is that the initial install wasn't complete and the refresh completed the install. Recently, after loading my Epson printer's CD, the apps once again disappeared. Had to do a system restore. Now I am having trouble with my screen just being black and not coming on at all...even after a reboot. Win8 has a lot of problems.

Hi was wondering if others experience this. Trying to figure out the cause and if there is a fix.

When I turn on or restart my computer after the teal windows logo with the spinning wheel the screen will flash off quickly then come back on black and then 10 seconds later show the lock screen.

It's kind of annoying to have this delay happening and wondering if it's normal or something that can be fixed.

A:Black Screen after teal windows before lock screen

Hi BFG,

That sounds normal to me. The only variation might be "how long" you pause on the black screen (while your boot is being processed). Now, for some, that black screen might flash for only a few seconds but for others, it could last quite some time. My advice is to do nothing and live with it.

I find also that when trying to save some excel and word documents I receive messages saying that i am not allowed to save to this folder or that folder. I am able to save to the desk top and then drag and drop the document into the folder that I need to place it in. I know that this must have something to do with "permissions". Not sure how to fix that. One of the accounts that shows up is the initial account that I created back when hotmail.com was around. Any ideas/advice on these issues? Hello friends, I recently got the Gnome desktop environment on the Ubuntu Software Center, and I used the gdm and startx command as said by another forum site. Nothing wrong, they said to logout, tried to login again, goes to a black screen and sends me back to the Ubuntu login screen. Tried again, same result, panicked. Looked up video tutorial on how to fix it, they said to access the control panel via ctrl-alt-f1 or f2, went to a black screen, no text at all, computer runs fine, no crashing. Is there a special way to access the terminal in a System76 computer, I really don't know very confusing? Is there a way to login with the guest session? I use Ubuntu 15.10 Wily Werewolf on my laptop. What causes this, I read on Ubuntu forums it's driver issues with Ubuntu and Nvidia, but I have my suspections with the Gnome desktop environment.

Hi everyone. I'm having trouble with my Acer laptop. This is what happened. I recieved an automatic update for IE9. I tryed it out, I did not like the new settings. So, I tryed to delete it, it said that I do not have permission to do that. So I did a System Restore to go back to IE8 and it looked like it was doing it's thing. Then it went into the Blue Error Screen. I turned my laptop off and then back on after a minute or so. Everything looked ok, all the intros still come on but "Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit (Full Version) Login Screen or Welcome Screen" does not load at all. Just stays on a blank black screen with the mouse arrow. I tried using the F8 options on the laptop but they have not done anything so far. SafeMode does not work and apparently there are no Restore Points anymore. No Backups either. Command Prompt still works. I did a scan and it said there is nothing wrong but there is. Should I get the full version of Windows Vista Install Disk and use the Repair option from there? You know where the disk has options like Install, Uninstall, Repair? I'm not talking about a Recovery Disk with the same F8 options as my laptop.

Hello,
I have just set up a new laptop with Vista and installed all of the new updates but when I restart the computer or turn it on the please wait screen comes up for about 2 minutes before showing the login screen.

The PC I'm on now is lower spec and shows the login screen instantly. I have searched the internet and tried disabling start up programs to speed it up but to no avail does anyone have any idea what could be causing it to say Please wait for so long?

The specs of the PC are:

2ghz Dual Core Processor

that usually means it is installing updates, if its a new laptop there may be a lot of updates for it to catch up on, it won't do them all at once, but over a period.

After the Starting Windows screen a blank black screen with a cursor that I can move pops up that lasts a minute (shouldn't happen with SSD, used to be ~10 second boot). Afterwards the login screen will appear as normal and everything works as normal. This doesn't happen when I boot into safe mode.

I attached a list of start up services, installs, and scheduled tasks, along with my latest boot log.

Any suggestions?

Hello, I'll go ahead and start from the very beginning. Thanks in advance though for taking a look at my problem.

About a month ago, my computer would give me a few problems while booting up. I would start the computer, it would run through BIOS, run through the Windows loading screen, and after that it would run the CHKDSK to make sure my disks are fine. CHKDSK doesn't work, it just freezes right before checking the disks, so I restart and generally it will boot up. Most of the time it would boot up perfectly, but rarely would it go to the xp loading screen and then flicker as if it as going to go to the windows login screen but wouldn't. The screen would just stay black and I'd have to restart. Next time, generally it would work perfect.

So this brings me to the current day. After the windows xp loading screen, it goes black. The computer is on, but I don't see any activity for the HDD via the LED. SO i go into safe mode, i finally get CHKDSK to run, I had to really mess with some stuff to get that working. Windows says the volume is fine, and the only way I can boot my PC is in safe mode, but even that will freeze sometimes while loading some of the files.

Just to let you know I'm running Raid0, and this is my first time running it. I'm not sure if this symptom is a common problem if one of the disks are going out. Does anyone know whats going on? Could it be a virus that messed with a boot.ini or any startup stuff? also, is there anyw... Read more

Hey, need some help yet again!

Yesterday, I downloaded Mission Against Terror (New MMOFPS), and I downloaded it. Upon updating with the patcher, my laptop went haywire. It started opening up random IE windows, slow speed, etc etc.

I did a whole memory scan, and a malware/adware/spyware scan. There were several viruses and whatnot, but what is important are the files: SVC2.exe and 2008.exe, you'll find it why later on. The anti-virus said that it had fixed/deleted everything.

So, I restarted my laptop, hoping that I'd get it up and running in safe mode for any further scans. Unfortunately, when I restarted it, after the windows 7 loading screen (which is right before login screen), a black screen appeared. With nothing at all. Not even a cursor. BLACK. JUST BLACK with NO keyboard access/mouse access. But, that's expected since it's BEFORE the login screen. It's the same with normal boot, boot that does that "last best used option" or whatever, safe mode, with networking, etc etc. All the same. Black screen.

Good thing I had WIN XP on my other hard drive. So, I booted up into WIN XP (where I'm posting this from), and did a FULL (NOT QUICK) system scan, to find the SAME Viruses YET AGAIN: SVC2.exe and 2008.exe, along with some other minor tracking cookies and what-not. Win XP (on second drive) is also having a few problems, like IE shutting down every second (using firefox now). Think this is a whole system prob. But, why? Didn't the antivirus-es fix it? I... The last thing I was told to do was run the farbar scan tool and to copy and paste a code and hit fix. Upon doing so the computer prompted for a restart. It now won't get to the log in screen. I've tried booting in safe mode and I've also tried last known working configuration as suggested and nothing has worked unfortunately. I was told to come here. Hopefully something can be done. Thanks a ton.

I'm having a weird problem. My laptop will show a black screen when booting. It seems no matter how long I wait, nothing happens. When I attach an external LCD to the laptop, it shows the Windows load or Windows resume graphics on the external monitor, but not on my laptop screen. As soon as the Desktop Screen with the Windows Login appears, it then appears on my laptop as well.

I also can't seem to get to safe mode. I push f8 and it never comes up I haven't installed any new software or hardware to cause this.
Any thoughts?

So I've hit this issue where I am welcomed with a black screen which is supposed to be my login screen. It boots up, but what would look like the login screen is simply black. When moving the mouse, the cursor would emerge whilst changing from pointing to loading(cursor animations). The wifi icon from the lock screen seems to flicker sometimes but that's pretty much it, nothing could be done from my end.
I've tried resetting/restoring from the advanced boot options(triggered by constantly interrupting the bootup process) but it's telling me it cannot be done since the location of the OS is not "unlocked". Safe mode with networking/command prompt gives me the same result. Unfortunately, I do not have a system restore point nor a system image to use. The command prompt from within the repair does not let me use sfc /scannow, too.

After I got rid of the extra software it came with, I proceeded to delete each part of StartIsBack from its respective directories, but it wouldn't let me delete its core StartIsBack64.dll, because it is running in the background. After booting up my laptop and before the Windows login screen I get a screen which pops up. I have to press the OK button on this screen before the Wondows login screen will appear. The screen has a square outline with the filename in the top left corner and an OK button on the bottom of the screen - the center of the square is blank. The script before the file name is squares and lines which look like bar code. The file name which appears at the end of the script is always a dll type file and seems to be different each boot up. When I search on the file names the files are always related to Windows. These are the file names from the last three times I booted up. xpob2res.dll, wuaueng.dll, mprapi.dll. What do I need to do to get rid of this screen?

Hi everybody. I'm kinda desperate with that problem, i hope you can help me.

I installed Win8 Pro, everything fine, i installed some programs and the latest drivers from Nvidia, i ran windows update so i rebooted, bios screen was right and then it appeared the win8 screen with the window and the circle looping and right after that while i had to be in the login screen i just get a black but stuttering screen where i only can see the mouse pointer. I restart in safe mode, uninstall the 550 Ti, then i can reboot whithout problem, Win8 detects the card and autoinstall the latest drivers and eveything is fine again and i'm able to play whatever i want, until i have to reboot or shutdown again. I need to uninstall the card from the device manager everytime i reboot if i want to have the chance of login again. Apart from this, everything runs fine.

So it looks like the card works right but there is a problem with the "welcome" and login screen. It's weird and frustrating and i would appreciate any help.

The BIOS on your system dates from 2007. I'd have to wonder if this system is compatible with Windows 8

Many of your storage controller drivers date from 2008 and earlier - I'd have to wonder about those that are involved in any crashes, but there are no memory dump files to examine.

Lot's of errors about services not starting and Windows Updates not installing - but I don't speak Spanish so I can't be sure about the details. I must ask if this is a legal copy of Windows - as illegal copies have many of these same symptoms - and fixing them isn't something that we can do here.

Hi,

You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

Hi ! Did you create a system repair CD or a system recovery drive?? Here are the ways that you can recover. My first choice would be to restore to a time before the update with a restore point! Read this by HTG! How to Create and Use a Recovery Drive or System Repair Disc in Windows 8 or 10 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...covery-options
PS! Using a Recovery Drive or System Repair Disc
A recovery drive will normally not be necessary. If your computer fails to boot several times, Windows 8 or 10 will automatically bring up the advanced startup options, which allows you to troubleshoot and fix it.
If Windows can?t even bring up these tools, you?ll need the recovery drive, system repair disc, or a Windows 8 or 10 installation disc. Insert the recovery media into your computer and restart. Your computer should boot from the recovery media automatically. (If it doesn?t, you may need to change its boot order.)

This has never happened before. When I turn on the computer, the two accounts show up (both administrator) but whenever I click either of them, the screen just shows the Windows 7 login screen for a while without any text then sends me back to the account selection. This happens when I select either of the accounts, one of them also has a password but that doesn't show up either.

PLEASE HELP.
(also don't know a lot about computers ;-; )

EDIT : When I turned on the computer, it went through updates where it says Starting Windows with the Windows logo. Maybe this helps.

A:Can't login to Windows 7. Sends me back to login screen every time.

Same thing happened to me since the update yesterday.

( just to clarify Is this the same problem ? I posted a video Windows Error - YouTube )

Hi, I'm new here. I created this account for help because my mother's password seems changed and she couldn't login, the keyboard wasn't sticky so she didn't mistype, caps lock wasn't on. I typed it my self and it didn't work, restarted the computer and it didn't work neither. I then go to thinking it was hacked and the password was simply changed. I go looking around for password changing boots for my flashdrive. I burned PASSCAPE on to my 16gig 2-1 flashdrive. Tried booting on all settings, booted normally, didn't work. So, I ignored it for a while and kept clicking "Reset password" button, It showed up as "Passcape" but claimed the usb slot was empy, wasn't; the slot is "F". I gave up hope on it, so I found this youtube video to reset it the manual labor way-here's the link to it: " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLtJ-iDdWC0 " So, continuing on..

I was simply following the video's instructions, so at step one at duration "2:02" I have to cause a error, I just keep shutting-down the pc while it's booting, because windows will assume it's an error after 2 - 3 times of doing so. Okay, by the time I get to "Repair your computer" button I press enter. And the shocking surprise I get which is odd is this in quotes:
" Windows Boot Manager

NEWS FLASH: I just learned something new about the password problem, my mother never told me exactly what the problem is but I've been typing it wrong the entire time, typed it in and this in quotes is my discovery:

" The User Profile Service service failed the logon.
User profile cannot be loaded. "

She never told me exactly what was the problem everyone, all she said is "Did you change the password" (waking me up at 8AM) then "The password is changed and I can't get on!" What is this problem we are experiencing-i've never seen this before.

Hello. I am trying to fix an HP G62-367DX Notebook PC.
Operating sys: Win 7, 64bit, AMD Turion(tm) 530II Dual-Core Processor, 4GB, 2.50GHz. I had this laptop since December of 2010 and on June of 2013 is when I used my notebook PC and was initially of no use. I have been working on my laptop on and off since. I am not afraid to open the sucker up and get this thing up and running.

The problem started out with what most ppl call it, the "blue screen of death". Like most ppl, I did ignore the blue screen and did a restart which brought me to the normal Windows screen and then it would start back up just fine. I found this in Device Manager's (Hidden Files):
Non-Plug and Play Drivers
-! ehdrv
-! epfwwfp
-! Security Processor Loader Driver
I am not sure if it has anything to do with what it was the blue screen situation, but I tried searching on the net on what it all meant and to see if I was able to fix it, but before I was able to do something about it, the blue screen kept popping up and it was getting worse.

The problem progressed to where on Windows startup it would just stop there, blue screen would pop up and of course I had to restart it and do an F8 key press for Safe Mode. I had to work on Safe Mode for a good couple of weeks before I can figure out the problem/s. I believe I had went into the system and found out it had something to do with some kind of error... *sigh* I did write it down, but that was like a month ago and I am unable to locate my ... Kind of screen glitch that appears before windows 8 lock screen appears at start /restart and a notable delay in starting/restarting time than with my 1st win8 install.

I think this appeared after I installed my windows 7 back ( dont ask me why..)( a clean install) and installed my win8 back again.I dont think Ive done them corectly:

I couldnt install win 7 it in C ,neither to format that partition because of this message [Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks] and an error code 0x0000 smth... while attempting to format the C. I could only manage to instal windows 7 back after deleting all of the partiton and now I have a single C one.

When Ive tried to reinstall windows 8 these days I expected to see only a partiton where to put my windows but instead there were other minor ones too ( they dint shown during my win7 install) like they appear now if I open disk management .

So now I have that glitch when starting windows 8. I dont know how to describe it: its a black screen -with that windows 8 doted loading wheel -partially covering my Motherboard logo screen ( that screen at startup with bios setup, boot menu options etc).I say partially becuase I can see parts of my motherboard screen on left and right but they are kinda shredded and disolved into scraps. This appears after the clean Motherboard screen witht those options I mentioned above. On my 1st win 8 inst... Read more

I did an upgrade from Win 7 , and Screen Saver / Turn off display after 5 mins was working under Win 7 64 bit
As my title suggest Screen Saver / Lock screen Slideshow / Turn off display after 5 mins are not working under Win 10
The Lock screen Slideshow is there when Win 10 starts but only shows ONE image, never moves to another.
THINGS I've done so far to get any of these working ...Screen Saver / Lock screen Slideshow / Turn off display after 5 mins
I’ve turned off all the Wake on lan functions
Tried different folder/ images for the lockscreen Slideshow ,window spotlight and picture
Tried to set new power options , was able to get SLEEP to show up in "Start" as it was not there before, but once click , the display DID turn off, but wouldn’t turn back on with mouse movement keyboard presses, had to do a hard reboot. Win 10 started without issue and the SLEEP mode was no longer aviable via the power "start" menu.
Anyone have a clue how to get all of these working. Really would like my display to turn off after 5 mins , and the Screen saver to work , the Lockscreen I'm not fussed about

A:unable to customize lock screen, start screen, account picture

If you're using the official release of Windows 8 Enterprise trial, you'll need to activate it. PC Settings doesn't have an entry to Activate, so you'll need to go to the Desktop to do so. The little Action Center icon on the lower right hand side (a little flag) should have a red X. Click on it, and it should say you need to activate. Do so, and you'll get those customizing features unlocked.

These aren't very important problems, but I'm just curious why this happen after Anniversary Upgrade.
- When I start my PC or when I shutdown/restart, in the log screen there isn't my profile image. Just the generic blank one.
The image is still present when I click on Start button on desktop and in Control Panel. I also tried to set it again.
- I prefer a "blank" lock screen background as I had before, with no panorama pictures or nothing. How can I remove it?

Whenever my laptop wakes up from sleep and shows the lock screen, I click and type in my PIN as normal. But on the lock screen at the top right, there's a Cortana box usually giving an example of what I can do, like 'tap and say remind me to water the plants when I get home'.

The problem is this box stays on the screen after the computer is unlocked, and displays semi-transparently in the top left over all other windows, with the only way to remove it is to double click, have a Cortana window display full screen and then close it.

I'd like to find a way of either fixing this or disabling Cortana from the lock screen altogether as I never use this feature. Any tips would be appreciated.

I'm using Windows 7 Pro. I have remove the login pw in my user account now I do not need to do the login and able to use the computer right away. But I found I am using the computer as a user not administrator. How can I skip the login screen and go straight into desktop as administrator. How can I do that? thanks

A:Windows 7 Pro login as admin but no need to have login screen

Hello Smash, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm a bit confused with your conflicting statements.

You say that "...now I do not need to do the login and able to use the computer right away.", but then ask "How can I skip the login screen and go straight into desktop..."?

Just to be certain, do you have to log on or not?Log On Automatically at Startup
Are you asking how to log on to the built-in Administrator account to have full access and control?

Hope this may help for now,
Shawn

i've got a very strange problem with the kids laptop which i'm desperate to sort out as my kid has her exams coming up and needs access to her apps.

Windows loads okay, upto the point when i get to the welcome screen.

Sometimes it gets to the welcome screen, but the user profile icons will never show but then sometimes the icons will show, but when i click on the icon, i can't get to the bit where i can type a password.

If i reboot into safemode, then i can perfectly access everything as normal.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks!

Welcome CJGCJG to the windows 7 forums.

Remote Desktop Program is as it says a program on your computer that will allow you full screen remote to another system that authorizes you. There is a way to automatically bring the RDP program up for you to log into another system but it requires that your primary windows system (the one your want to connect from) be set up to automatically boot into you Operating system, putting the RDP program in your startup fold will bring it up.
Using netplwiz, you can set your userid to automatically log in to your local machine and then the RDP would run and you can then log onto your remote system. In fact y ou can save all the credentials for your RDP session and it will automatically login to your remote system.

Is this clear?

I can enable auto turn off screen after period of time in control panel. But i found in lock screen, the monitor won't turn off automatically even if the time period is expired. Is there any way to solve this?

If you haven't, try setting the screen saver (can use blank) and set it to the same time as the monitor time out.

Since the latest update (It introduced the slide show of pictures on the lock screen. I think it is KB3124200) I haven't been able to press Enter or Space or any other key for that matter to "slide up" the lock screen photo to get to the password screen. I've looked through the lock screen settings, but I see nothing that could prevent this. Does anyone know why this is and a possible fix for it?

Thanks in advance!

A:Not able to press keyboard to get from lock screen to password screen

Okay, I think I've figured out a solution.

What I did was right click the desktop and choose "Personalize", then choose "Lock Screen" and switch "Show Windows background picture on the sign-in screen" to "Off".

I have no idea as to why this would change anything, but it did solve my problem, and I don't need the Windows logo background, so I'm happy!

Hope this help

Hi,

I found out that Update 1 (KB2919355) causes logon screen and lock screen issue.

Custom background for both screens are not displayed, instead of custom background there is a solid black background.

Uninstalling this update rolls back this issue and both screens are displayed correctly. Confirmed on Win 8.1 Pro x64.

I'm gonna report it to Microsoft.

Best regards,
Derlee

I have the same problem on my laptop.

After the Update 1 my Lock Screen is completely blue and it's not showing the image anymore, I can see the icons but not the pic.

In addition to that, when I choose to reboot the laptop I can only see the loading circle and not the phrase "rebooting".

Can anyone help?

I tried to disable the lock screen on windows 10 through regedit.
I went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows
but instead of creating a new folder PERSONAL i went to the right pane and created a new DWORD (NoLockScreen) and set value to 1.
Now when power up my laptop it goes into diagnose mode and I have to do a restore point before I can get in.
I tried doing a serach for DWORD and No Lock Screen in regedit but cannot find it.
Would appreciate any help

Hello @yesnoo . I have found a tutorial on This Website that I hope will help with your problem. Since you have already tried the Group Policy method, I would advice you to try out the second method which uses Regedit instead. This is the method I used to disable the lockscreen on my machine a while back and I certainly hope it will for you too. Hope I was of use
