Hi, my hp pavilion 15-n270sa won't charge, it wont even turn on unless i have the charger in. I checked hp assistant and it said my battery was undetected, I have reinstalled the battery driver many times, I have changed the battery 3 times, i have updated my BIOS and nothing seems to work. Please help
The SMART chip inside the battery is like other electronics...it can fail for no apparent reason. You have a dead, dead battery that needs replacement. Are you under warranty?5 more replies
I apologise if I'm in the wrong category but my laptop won't turn on properly. When I turn it on it goes a blueish black as if it's loading then the hp logo comes up then it goes completely black as if it's turned off then it repeats. Any ideas on how I can fix this?More replies

Hi all, I bought a new Pavilion x2 two days ago.Today I tried to charge it for only the 2nd time ever and nothing. It doesn't recognise that it's even plugged in.It's a holiday here so all shops are closed.Seems to me like a faulty charger, and I see on this forum that lots of HP users have similar problems. Is it common for HP chargers to be dodgey?Any other ideas?ThanksMore replies
I have had my laptop for just over a year, and so far it hasn't had any problems except I had to reinstall windows. The problem is that it now won't recharge at all, it stays at 63%, I have checked all the plugs and they all seem to work, I unplugged it and it recognised that the recharger is not plugged in. The problem is that it won't charge, It says plugged in and not charging. Does anybody have any ideas of what could be the problem or the solution?
thanks in advance

Recently my Pavilion 10-n000na x2 has refused to charge when the device is powered on. When I attach the charger to the USB-c port the LED indicator light stays white and does not turn orange (charging) and the power indicator in windows task bar shows battery power only and no AC power. When the device is powered down and plugged in it does appear to charge, albeit with increasing reluctance. Occasionally when attaching the power cord when the system is running I will get a windows device popup advising the the USB device I have just attached could not be recognised. This device is still under warranty and both the device and powere cord seem to be in good condition. I am unable to contact HP support as they are only available during hours when I am at work.More replies
Hi im Mikaeel and ive owned my HP Pavilion 15 for 2 years and 2 months now and have never experienced a problem, my warranty expired a year ago and now my laptops battery wont charge more than 83%This has never happened before and because of this the charge drains really quick and my laptop crashes without giving me the low battery warning.. please help me out as that would mean a lot to me..ThanksMikaeelMore replies
My HP pavilion does not take charging after 80% and sometimes the charging light starts blinking. It shows plugged in , not charging.
Have you tried a battery diagnostic either in the UEFI diagnostics (F2 as you power on) or in the HP Support Assistant running from Windows? Stopping at 81% seems like it may be a dead power cell in the battery. Can we have the full model number of the laptop and an idea how old the battery is? Original?1 more replies

My HP Pavilion x360 will only charge when the lid is closed or the computer is in sleep mode. I have tried changing any relevant power settings and have already consulted multiple friends. I'm wondering if there's a hidden setting I have yet to discover The HP assistant check said the battery is OK. I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10 some time ago not sure if there is a link to the problem I saw a thread for the fix for the Windows 8.1 but sure if that will work for Windows 10 tried a few of the videos on you tube about uninstalling drivers but they did not help. any clues pleaseMore replies
Hi I recently purchased a Tiny universal adaptor after having left my H.P charger in a different location which meant I was going to be without it for a week or so.The Tiny charger did not pass on any power to the laptop.. I have since got back the H.P charger which came with the laptop, and tried powering it up. Still nothing. My laptop is one of the B&O line with a non-removable battery. Do I need to claim on the warranty and replace or is there an easy fix? ThanksWillMore replies
HI There,Ever since I upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 my HP Pavilion x360 has been a complete wreck. Including charging and sound issues. I've been able to resolve the sound issue by using device manager and uninstalling the drivers entirely. I have done the same for the charging problem but to no avail-restart after restart it refuses to charge. This 2-in-1 tablet/pc was purchased about a year ago. And has only had problems since the upgrade. I do not feel comfortable removing the battery as the batter on this particular model is actually enclosed in the casing. As I mentioned I've uninstalled the battery drivers from device managers a few times. Is there:1. A way to get the battery to take a charge without removing it (i.e. troubleshooting site)2. A way to roll they OS all the way back to Windows 7? I've tried rolling it back a few versions but I'm still in Windows 10. Thanks for your help!

I installed a new battery today and the guy in the store said it wouldn't be fully charged. My computer booted up fine but they I got a warning that the battery was at 14%. I had the power cord plugged in so it should started charging but it didin't. I got my neighbors computer, similar model and I put my battery in his and it started charging so then I plugged in my power cord and it is still charging. So I know my battery is good and my power cable is good because they both work on his computer so there is something wrong with the connection where I plug it in or somewhere else in the computer. When you plug the power cord in the LED should light up but there is no light. Any ideas of anything I can check or do I have to take it in for repair?More replies
hi i'm haveing an issue with my laptop it won't come on or charge and its not the cord or the battery the power switch works and the hard drive is good and so is the ram any ideas out there i could use the help thanks all
The power jack connector on laptops are soldered (internally) to the motherboard. If the solder connection should break, power can't be delivered (internally) to power the battery or run the computer.
You might try it yourself (see here) if you're comfortable doing so or you'll need to take it to a repair shop
So my laptop has two LED lights, one in the front and one near the plug-in for the charger. Before it would charge perfectly and both lights turned on, then my charger broke and my grandmother got me a charger. This charger worked perfectly but the near-plug-in-LED light stopped turning on. Only the front one was turning on, but aside from that everything seemed just fine. My laptop requires a 120w Charger and the charger she gave me was of 65w. I didn't know this until about a week ago since suddenly during gameplays it would just randomly stop charging after about 5 minutes into a video game or after maybe 2 hours of just browsing and stuff. I went to a place to get it checked and they told me it was because of the charger, etc etc. Now I bought a new charger and it's still the same, it charges (even though the battery icon says it's on 84% and doesn't move from there) but it suddenly just stops charging after a while again. The problem with it not charging is that my laptop gets extremely laggy and only lasts about 1 minute before it shuts down.Is it the battery? Please tell me there's another solution... Batteries are expensive. The reason I added so much detail to this question is because I don't want to leave anything out. ThanksMore replies

Hello fellow techies,
I have a situation with my Compaq Evo N600c battery or something in that directions, so I need possible solutions. My laptop needs to be plugged in at all times, which makes it frustrating because its a portable laptop. If it becomes unplugged the laptop will turn off within 10 seconds flat. I fear that this will, if it hasnt already done so, mess up my electric circuits among other components. Can any of you suggest or recommend options I can use to diagnose the situation. I would like to find out what the problem is, whether I should buy a new battery or some component or prong that I need to replace? Thanks for the feed back!
Yup, sounds like a battery problem.
First, make sure the battery has a charge. Most laptop batteries have a button on them somewhere you can push that will give you the power level. Alternativly, there should be a utility in windows or the BIOS that will allow you to check the power level.
If the battery has no charge and isn't charging, then replace it with a known good one and see if it will charge up when the laptop is plugged in.
If the good battery won't charge up, then there is a problem with your motherboard.
If the battery has charge but won't power the system, then there is a problem with your motherboard too.
If this is the case, then the best you can do is contact the laptop manufacturer and get them to replace the motherboard.

a simple question......will a HP Pavilion 15-n034sa motherboard fit into a HP Pavilion 15-n083sa ?

Actually that's a hard question, generally its not possible to install another motherboard, sometimes it is. In this case one is an AMD platform and the other is an Intel platform, there could be tons of differences in mounting holes, physical design, clearance, connectors, heat dissipation requirements, cooling systems, etc. Laptops are not like desktops that use more standardized designs.

Hi All, I was using my machine yesterday and during use, it stopped charging the battery (even though it was plugged in) the laptop then proceeded to run out of battery and not turn on. I decided to change the fuse in the charger thinking that might be the problem. However, the machine would still not switch on. I then decided to pull out the multimeter I had lying around and at the charging point on the charger, I found that it was producing the correct 20v. Searching I removed the battery and power supply and held down the power button on the machine, and it is still not switching on, or showing any signs of life =[ Any help would be great before I call out someone out, Thanks!More replies

I will also be installing several software applications on both the server and the desktop PCs, as well as setting up shared drives on the server for both public and private files.
There is also the possibility of restoring files from the old PCs and server to the new PCs and server.

Hey all, I've been having some issues with my battery for my lap top. It will not charge at all and I feel the startup is very slow because of it. If I keep the lap top plugged in, it will run somewhat normally, but the second the plug comes out, everything shuts down. I've ran 2 seperate diagnostic checks, one through the HP Solution Center, and the other through the F2 start up menu. Both of them are saying that a battery is not detected. I can assure you, there is one in there. Are there any other tests I can run to figure out the nature of my battery issues, or do I just need to suck it up and purchase a new battery? Could it also have something to do with the charging cable? The only thing wrong with the cable is the small, copper pin in the center has broken off. But, when I plug the cable in, the lap top recognizes it. Is that small pin even important? Any answers to any of my questions would be greatly appreciated.More replies

I have a Gateway MX-6431 laptop. I currently charge my battery by removing it from the laptop and connecting it to a special charger with the battery adapter, a seven pin rectangular connector. I received the computer this way, so I don't know anything else about it. I later found the AC charger that came with the laptop and plugged it in. It did nothing. I checked the voltage at the pin connector at the end of the charger and it was fine and the correct polarity. Any ideas at all?
Thank You For Your Time,
When you say, "I received it that way", did you receive it that way from a shop, eBay, or as second-hand? So, is the laptop brand new?
My old IBM ThinkPad (2635HGU) will run on external AC adapter power, but will not charge. Can I assume this is a failed battery (02K6509)? If so, the battery replacement cost for a laptop this old may be prohibitive ($150 to $200). I can probably buy an equivalent used laptop for that price. Are there any inexpensive sources for this battery?

I have a compaq presario cq61, which as the thread title might give away, isn't charging when plugged in. I've gone as far as buying a new charger, which hasn't resolved the problem. The connection should be tight, there you could start.
I have an eee pc netbook (Windows XP Home) and can't get the battery to charge. At this point I can't even turn the machine on. The A/C adapter plugs in fine and the blue light on the adapter stays on. Every so often when I plug the adapter in a message box will pop-up saying I'm running on battery mode and sometimes if I giggle the cord, the message box will say a/c mode. My first thought is that there is possibly a short in the cord (?). This is my first laptop, so I don't have a lot of experience with batteries. Could it be possible I need a new battery? I've had this for a couple of years now. Normally when I use it, I run it plugged in so as not to run the battery down.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Two things come to mind.
It may be the DC socket connector that you plug the charger into. (especially because you say it changes when you wiggle it)
Also, have you tried running the computer without the battery plugged in, with just the charging adapter, to see if that works? That would resolve a faulty battery question.
on my IBM T20 laptop, Win XP-SP2: battery won't charge. Tried new (refurb'd) battery, also won't charge. Bottom of unit gets very hot, however.
I DID change the nickel-sized (Li-on?) battery that goes UNDER the main battery - that's a tricky connect as I had to do it "Blind" - couldnt figure out how to really remove the entire base....and scared to take too much apart! So maybe...that little battery isn't totally connected?? But...the unit works just fine when plugged into 110v, so if that litte battery is to kep the BIOS data intact, it is working. Any ideas on why it won't charge, and what to do about it?? Thanks.

There is just no way to do that I believe. It's a low-level firmware thing and Lumia's don't charge when powered off. They automatically power on.
The HTC 8X did get a firmware update a while back to enable charging when powered off, but its Lumia competitors like the 920 didn't get that feature.
I have a Dell Inspiron B 130 Laptop that I broke the screen on. I used it with a monitor for several months and did not unplug it or remove the battery. I replaced the screen to use as a laptop again and saw the battery would not charge. This was confirmed by the blinking orange light which according to Dell means a bad battery. I replaced the battery and the light showed it charging but the battery meter showed no progress. When I would unplug the adapter the computer would shut off. I bought a new charger hoping that was the problem but It also will not charge the battery. In short I have a new battery and charger and an indicator light that shows charging but it does not actually charge. Any ideas?

Hi there, I have had my computer for about 5 years, and so when the battery finally stopped working, I figured it was time for a new one. I bought a new battery, and it works, however it won't charge. The port to charge my comptuer recently broke and I got that fixed, but now the new batterty won't charge. Are those two things related, or is there something I can do?
I would say it is possible that the power port is broken again, or not fixed properly the first time, if the battery puts out its charge it should be able to take a charge, meaning the circut boards onboard the battery should be good.

Does the phone automatically switch the voltage difference from u.s. To European voltage?
Yes, most phones and phone charger adapters are universal. Best to check before you leave to see if you charger is capable for handling 110-240V.
Good luck and enjoy your trip to Europe.
I currently have a Gateway MT3708 laptop and recently I have to play with AC charger jack in order to get a charge. It seems the laptop does not recognize the charger. A friend suggested it might be the battery. When I take the battery out the computer, with the charger connected, it does not receive any power so I can't turn it on, unless I move the AC charger jack around until its detected. One slight movement of the charger cord and bamm power's out.
I was willing to purchase a docking station, attach it where the battery is currently located but I haven't found one for my computer.
1. Can I solve the problem with out any expensive tooling?
2. Is there a universal docking station that will allow me to get a charge?
3. If 1 and 2 fail how much should I expect to pay for the fix?(in the US) Geek Squad, or Fry's for example

I recently had my charging port on my laptop fixed because I dropped my computer with it plugged in, and it completely broke. My laptop was able to work when I plugged it in, but slowly the battery completely died. I thought because I had the computer for almost 5 years, the battery was not good anymore, so I bought a new battery. However, now the computer indicates that it is on "AC" power, but it will not charge the battery. I can't use my laptop as a portable computer because now it has to be plugged in all the time. Anyone have any ideas of what might be going on?? Thanks!!
I suggest talking to the person who origionally 'fixed' the issue, as it seems he hasn't done a proper job.
I have a Dell Vostro 1000 laptop. The problem is that it will not charge, i`ve tried other dell chargers but they won`t charge it either.
Could this be a major problem or is it something that can be fixed without handing it into a repair shop?

Hi - am new to this so please be patient lol
i have just brought an IBM T41 off ebay and it is not right!! I already have one T41 and the second one was for my son however..... it was very slow to start and the battery is just soooo slow to charge!!! (I can not get a response from the seller)
I have changed the batteries over and it charges fine in my T41 so I have eliminated the battery at fault.
Looking on the IBM site i upgraded the BIOS - this improved the start up speed straight away - i attempted to upgrade to embedded controller as advised but that was not required and it cancelled the install.
HELP - any ideas please - thanks, Rigsby

Hello.. I am using a toshiba satalite laptop, model no L310-s414. Its os is vista home basic 32bit.1 or 2 weeks ago i was using the laptop when sudenly the screen suddenly became darker, indicating that the power from the wall point had been lost.. i tried reconnecting it but the power light would come on followed by the battery charging light then both would turn off after 1 or 2 secs. i changed wall points but the same thing would happen.. After a few tries the laptop could charge..However the prob came back after 3 days. but this time i could not charge it at all. the power light would flash on and off at that time i had 5 percent batt. I hibernated the laptop (oh ya i had this habit of hibernating the laptop) and went out..Next day i tried again. same thing happened. But when i turned the laptop on with tt little bit of batt, and deleted the restoration data. i tried plugging in the cable and then VOILA it started charging. Then today(tt was monday, today is friday) the laptop cannot charge again. The power light would turn on then off.I went to find bios update(i am very sure it is not a prob with the cable as it could work from mon till ystd) and there were none.I went to the Device manager and tried disabling and re-enabling the Microsoft AC Adapter thing but it didn't work. The laptop has abt 20% now. i do not intend to switch it on unless absolutel... Try removing the battery and see if the comp works OK without it. Modern batteries must be used, so if you haven't been using the laptop with just the battery then it is possible the battery has died.
If it works Ok sans battery then reinsert it and if you get the same symptoms as before you might have to buy a new battery.
Hey everyone. I have a Gateway p7805u FX and over the last couple months I started having a problem with my laptop being plugged in, but not charging. I noticed the plug into the computer itself seemed a bit worn down and heating up (imo a little too much). Just recently I went and bought a new ac adapter, thinking that might be the problem, but it is not. Now when it's plugged in, it says it's "plugged in but not charging" and I can see the screen flashing, going from "plugged" to "unplugged" mode. It seems that the problem is the computer side, and not the adapter side, I think. Any help or suggestions that do not include sending it to gateway? (or maybe that's the only fix!) Thanks in advance.
Well, currently I have built my long term friend, (Yet we are doing this professionally, no friendship in the middle of business), a custom computer for his business.
I was just wondering..What should I charge him?
I worked 5-6 hours having to install applications, and actual labor of putting it together, having to RMA a board that was dead on arrival, and having to do various other objectives.
I also installed Windows 7 Pro (Retails $250+) which was Unopened, and In my inventory.
So I figure
5-6 Hours labor
And an Operating system I had on hand (Maybe half original price?)
What do you guys think?
Sorry if in wrong forum, didn't know where to put!
(5 x $50.00/hour +$150.000)
This will almost certainly include a fair amount of (free) long term support.
Obviously this price should have been set in the beginning.
Hey dudes. I have two hp x360 laptops. Recently they have both stopped reading the chargers while they are on. When the lid is closed the laptops will charge. When the computers are running if I unplug the charger and plug back in, the screen lights up as if it will start charging for a second then goes back to dim and stops charging. It happens with both laptops and with both chargers. Due to the fact that it's happened with 2 I can't be the only one so it's amazing I can't find anything online about it. They are the Beats Audio models and I am running windows 10. I do not get a "plugged in not charging" message, it just simply does not show the computer charging. I cannot do a system restore as the restore option needs to read the charger. Thanks in advance for your halp!
Hi!, @thearirshippp: Welcome, to Forum !. If you have, unexpired warranty coverage, on both notebooks, you can call, the Assistance and Support Center, HP, nearest, to your home, from ... http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Android/Phone-Assistance-in-the-world/td-p/5038024 IMHO, are fail, in the batteries. Try, connect directly with switching adapter, without batteries (if you can removed). If you consider necessary, you can indicate, the complet model and P/N (product name).4 more replies
Chromebook will not charge. Checked power adapter and it is working fine. Replaced DC power jack in chromebook with new one - charged for over 24 hours...still no lights and will not turn on. Disconnected battery from board, did hard reset (15 seconds on power switch without adapter plugged in and with battery disconneected as per HP) - no results. Would the LED next to the power jack NOT come on if the adapter was plugged in but the battery was bad? Is a new battery my next step or am I missing signs of something worse? Thanks for any help!

I've had this great laptop for about 4 months, usually gives me about 4-5 hours of charge. After not using it (out of town) for 5 days, it loses charge very rapidly, just now its lost 42% in just 40 minutes! I had to charge it 4 times yesterday! My brightness settings were also messed up, it was at 88% screen brightness, whereas I keep it at 68%, not sure how it changed on it'e own, I changed it back, but it's still losing charge rapidly. It lost 3% just typing this in a couple minutes. PLease help me get this laptop back t 4-5 hours per charge. Harris

So, I switched out the power cord, tried fn f2 f3, plugged in a different outlets and still the results are the same- giant paperweight. My trouble all started with downloading Windows 10. The computer crashed constantly, lost power out of the blue, and some other annoyances. I have uninstalled that beast from ***, but encountered issues though less frequently.
What I am getting from the previous posts is that I need a new mother board, right? That seems expensive or techie. Is there some other means to just charge my battery that doesn't involve another computer? I have hardly used this refurbished hunk of junk. I refuse to ever get another HP because of the problems I had with their laptops. I hope Dell isn't heading in the same direction.
I have two PS3 controllers nether of them will charge when plugged into the PS3. I'm sure what's wrong please help.

Sadly some say "Worked for me!" yet don't say what method did.
As one suggested have you tried recharging them from your computers USB?
Could be a bad cable, bad USB port, or resetting the controller.
Anyway, give those posts a read and hopefully you will find a working solution.
I replaced both battery and power supply/cable for my HP Envy m6 laptop, but I can't recharge my computer. When I open the screen I get a warning of low batter power at 12% and recommends that I sign-off immediatelly. Could use some help. Thanks,Jack
Hi, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! Take a look at where the power plugs into the laptop. If the power plug shows any of the silver (chrome) adapter, this is likely your problem. **DANGER** UNPLUG THE POWER FROM THE WALL POWER OUTLET BEFORE PROCEEDING! Unplug the adapter from the laptop and look into the hole in the center of the plug-in portion. You will probably need a flashlight. You will probably see that the center pin is bent to one side and is no longer in the center of the hole. To repair this.............. Straighten the outermost bend of a regularly sized paperclip (the 1 inch type) and then used a multi-tool to bend the tip (about 1/16th inch) to a 90® bend and then insert it into the center hole. After getting the tip behind the center pin, slowly pull the paperclip out. you have to repeat this several times and also had to GENTLY pry the tip back to the center of the hole with the tip of the bent paperclip. Now when you plug in the power plug it goes all the way in and the laptop once again charges while on. Hope this may help. Thanks. ****Click the White Kudos star to say thanks********Please mark Accept As Solution if it solves your problem****

I've bought Dell Xps 15,9550 and it's amazing, but the problem is I can't plug off the battery, and I use my laptop all the time "literally" and I was a little bit disappointed because I want to keep my battery in a good condition, untli I knew about Dell Command Configure Wizard, which gives you an option to change the way your battery is charging, and there are 5 ways: Standard Charge, Express Charge, AC Use, Auto Charge, Custom Charge, but I really don't know what's the best for my condition.
Like I said I use my laptop all the time and I'm afraid that if I kept the laptop charging while using it all the time, the battery may get in a bad condition.
And sorry for my English it's not my mother tongue.
Thank you very much.

My computer says to get a new battery. But it won't take a charge. The drivers are supposedly up to date. What do I need to do? The new battery only has 1% power. The old battery will still charge.
It sounds like the new battery may be defective possibly. Which system do you have that is experiencing this issue?
Is there any way, on any port, at any speed, to charge the battery on a Yoga 900? ... or even run it? I'm needing extended run time in the field. Yes, I could go with a battery powered inverter to run the wall wart. That just seems silly and inefficent. I suppose I could come up with my own 20Vdc source and hack up a cable. Anyone else?More replies

I have an HP Pavilion 15 that started to not charge the battery. It runs off of battery power fine, but the battery does not charge anymore. I have to run my computer off of the AC charger because I need what's left in the battery to start the computer. I had already tried going through system diagnostics. It says the AC charger is not detected. I tested it and it's putting out the proper amount of power though.More replies
HP LaptopWindows Vista BusinessHelp me please!Sorry if in the wrong section.
Sounds like your laptop battery is failing. How old is the laptop? Is it under warranty? If so, call HP support to get a replacement.
If not, you could order one.
Before you do anything, make sure it is a consistent issue, and not a one time thing.
Plugged in not charging? Nothing's working I already went through a few tuts on removing the ACPI Compliant control and then running the hardware scan. but it still does work every time I unplug it-it just shuts off.
I'm using it right now...so please don't suggest again, I already tried that method, alright?
Is there anything else I can do
