Pci device and unknown device drivers

Q: Pci device and unknown device drivers

I just reinstalled my win8.1 and now i can't find 2 drivers. It is listed under the "Other Device" section in the device manager. The first is the "PCI Device" and the other is "Unknown Device" Can anyone give me a direct link to these drivers? I have searched everywhere. The hp website don't list them and when i try to contact them, i can't cause my warranty went out last month. So they want to charge me a fee for some drivers. You would think customer service would be better than this. Oh well, someone please help me find them. Thanks

I upgraded to Windows 10 a while back. Every time I open the computer I get a pop-up notification telling me the USB device is unrecognized. I have no USB devices in any of my 3 USB ports.
I sent my computer in twice. No help. They just uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything and told me it should be fixed. It is not. I then went about updating every driver in my Device Manager. I uninstalled the Unknown USB Device and then updated
other drivers. Certain drivers (such as PCI Express Root Port #3 - 9C14) when updating would also reinstall the Unknown USB Device, which I would then uninstall and keep working down the list. At the end of updating EVERYTHING I scanned for hardware changes
and "found" the Unknown USB Device.
From what I can tell, and I know very little about this stuff, my computer can't name one of my USB ports. Since it can't figure out what it's called it can't download the proper driver for it. Since it can't download the proper driver it can't work properly.
The practical result from this is that one of my three USB ports does nothing when I put in any USB item (connect my android phone, thumb drive, presentation clicker, etc).
I've looked on tons of forums. My current thought is that if I can tell my computer what the deice is or download the right driver and tell my computer to use that driver for this device it should solve my issue. But I don't know how to know what the name
of the USB port should be (I imagine it woul... Read more

Title is a little misleading, my apologies.
There is indeed one unknown device, its unknown to me. And a little googling didn't help me uncover the mystery.
The second issue with a driver is probably going to be simple for someone else, but searching through the website has only served to confuse me. I can't find the books to give any more information than what I provide. (Screen shot below) The devise is a power box come surge protector. I could take a picture if necessary. I have a disc but the drivers wont load into Windows 7.
I'm not savvy with computer talk so please forgive a girl for being vague, if I am at all. You can throw the book at me or hit me with a wet noodle if necessary
But thanks for any help

A:Win 10 PCI Serial Port & PCI Unknown Device Drivers misiing

Hi: For the PCI Serial Port you need this driver... This package contains the Intel Local Management Service (LMS) and Serial-over-LAN (SOL) support for Intel Active Management Technology (AMT) for the supported desktop models and operating systems. This software is part of the Intel Digital Office Initiative. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp46001-46500/sp46134.exe Please post the hardware ID for the PCI Unknown device you are missing the driver for. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the unknown device needing the driver. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the device window. Now you will see a Property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list and select the 3rd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

I have a Toshiba laptop, model L505-ES5018. I had Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit installed on here, but decided to reformat my hard drive using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. After the reformat was finished, I ran Windows Update and it found several items to download and install for me. I noticed that it also found optional items to download and install for me, so after all the important updates installed, I ran the optional updates. After all of this installed, I checked Device Manager to see if there were any errors and I found nothing. I assumed everything was fine. I decided to check Devices and Printers and under my laptop icon, there was a yellow icon with an exclamation point on it. I decided to run the troubleshooting option when I right-clicked the icon....it gave me a solution to download a Toshiba password utility program, so I did that and nothing happened, even after restart. Same icon appeared. When I clicked on the icon a second time, I noticed that the model of my computer at the bottom of this window, changed from L505 to TIAS. I have no idea what this is. I decided to do another reformat on my hard drive. This time, I ignored the optional updates. I checked Devices and Printers again, the same icon appeared but the model of my computer said L505, like it should. There is something in the optional updates that is changing this. Could it be the Intel chipset driver that the optional update is pushing? I'm not sure. I went back to Device Manager, th... Read more

Hello,
I recently put together a new computer, and in the process of of installing the USB 3.0 connector from the front of my GX500 case, I either bent numerous pins on the motherboard USB 3.0 header or the motherboard shipped that way and I inadvertently made matters worse. Anyway, that header on the motherboard is without a doubt unusable.
Since I don't really need the USB 3.0 functionality, I bought a USB 3.0 -> 2.0 adapter cable, connected one end to the connector on the front of the case and the other end into the USB 2.0/1.1 header on the motherboard. Unfortunately, when Windows 7 boots and I plug a device into the front ports of the case, Windows detects the front USB ports as "Unknown Device" within Device Manager yet says the driver is successfully installed. I've already downloaded the most current Intel chipset drivers for my motherboard, deleted and reinstalled all USB drivers, and all rear USB connections are working perfectly fine - it's just the two front ports that are connected from the case to the USB 2.0/1.1 ports via the adapter cable.  I've tried both USB 2.0/1.1 headers on the motherboard, and I've tried plugging in several devices to the front USB ports, and this problem still persists.
I've ensured the connection inside the case is solid, yet I cannot get Windows to recognize the front USB ports.  However, I have confirmed that power is being sent to the front ports because it charges my phone when I connect it to the front USB ports via m... Read more

Hi everybody.

I just bought myself a Powercolor Radeon HD 4890 yesterday. After installing the card and the required drivers everything works like a charm. However, every time I start up my PC I get a message saying that a new device has been found on my system. On checking Device Manager I found an "Unknown device" entry under "Other devices".

I'm attaching a screenshot of Device Manager.

Are there any drivers I'm missing? It only happened after removing my old card (after uninstalling all its drivers) and installing the Radeon.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

A:Unknown Device In Device Manager After Installing Radeon HD 4890

I have a Powercolor Radeon HD 4890 (I also have a Gigabyte 4890 and XFX 4890 in two other PCs). I think you need to install the latest ATI Catalyst Suite. You may have installed the driver only package. Anyway, I think it has to do with the HDMI capabilities of the card. High def sound is built into the card (the HD part of the card name) and the HD sound driver is part of the Catalyst Suite. When you use an HDMI cable to an appropriate display, HD sound is also transmitted through the same cable from the Radeon graphics card.

Of course, be sure to install .NET Framework 2.0 as it is required before you can install the full Catalyst Suite. The HD sound driver won't install without it. At least I had trouble before I installed .NET 3.5. I went to Windows Update and installed .NET Framework 3.5. 2.0 is included in that update and 2.0 wasn't available separately.

Fresh install of Windows 10 and the last driver I need to sort out is the above.

I believe it is my powered USB 3 hub to which I plug in my keyboard and mouse. Technically it is working but I don't like seeing yellow triangles on devices.

So are there any fixes?

A:Unknown USB Device (device descriptor request failed)

If it's a generic USB 2.0 Powered Hub then technically there's should be no drivers needed by Windows, if it's a USB 3.0 Hub then I'm unsure (since I don't own any USB 3.0 Hubs).

Might be a Windows bug, basically Windows can't find the description information to display the Hub's name in the Device Manager example: Generic USB Hub, Root Hub Device, etc....

I'm pretty sure everything is working as should, you're good minus the minor annoyance if all device connected through the USB Hub is recognized by Windows; if you right click Properties on the yellow triangle it probably says "The Device is working properly".

I know that a similar question has been asked before but, not with the last part of the message, (Device Descriptor Request Failed). I get this, in Device Manager, and I have searched for an answer on the net. Also it is a Code 43. I went through my laptop, with an HP Technician this morning, I might add at a cost of 5p/minute, for 30 odd minutes. He has said that because I had gone over to Windows 8.1 and the recovery discs I made will not load, to put back in Windows 8. I have to send the laptop back for re-installing the OS, because Windows 8.1 do not have the update for my problem. Also the R.H. USB socket has a failure ID:0GAPTK-6T7716-MFPWWK-8D1Q03. I personally think that this is all what the problem is. a duff USB. Is this a cop-out???
My question is; has anyone heard of Windows 8.1 having driver WHQL problems?? Very.

Any/all ideas, appreciated.

ps, I only found out the problem with the usb when I tried to download a Mobi file to a Kindle for my wife. The other usb's work OK.

A:Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Is there only one USB port on the right hand side? Sometimes manufacturers connect internal devices via an unused USB port internally. USB ports are usually in groups of two, seeing only one port is usually a sign that the wiring has been redirected internally to something else like a Bluetooth adapter or wifi adapter. It may even be a card reader or touchpad. Is anything like that not working? If it is start looking for a driver for it.

I have a very similar situation.

I have a windows 98se machine runnong on an Intel Celeron 600MHz with 128MB of ram.

The OS was just installed.
I am trying to instal an HP USB burner - I used this device before with no problems.

The drivers are located on a diskette. The manuf instructions advise to connect the power and usb cables and boot the pc with the diskette in the drive when windows finds the new hardware select the floppy drive.

When the pc is booted is finds new hardware lists it as "unknown device" and does not promt me for any input. If I go to device manager the device has a red x. I've tried to remove the device and reboot - same thing. I've tried to update the driver and it says the best driver is already installed c:\windows\inf\usb.inf

The ref url was resolved by changing the order of connecting the cables.....I have tried ever combo I can.
Can someone please tell me how to point to the correct drivers ?

Thanks

Greetings folks

I have a problem that bugs me for years, I never intentionally solved it, sometimes those errors disappears and all USB ports work fine, sometimes they do not. So anyone can help me please, it would be great.

Some of my ports do not work all the time, I cannot identify a specific moment. Inside the Device Manager, Universal Serial Bus controllers, I get 1, 2 or more "Unknown USB Device ( Device Descriptior Request Failed )", sometimes more sometimes less.

CPU: Intel Core i7 3770
Motherboard: AsROCK H77 Pro4/MVP
Windows 10 all available updates downloaded and installed as of today, and everyday. The problem appeared on Win 8 or 7, not sure when. So it's not necessarily Windows 10 specific. I ported it to 10.
Here is what they look like:
http://prntscr.com/d6rm6k

Bios is up to date. Chipset drivers updated, various solution tried from googling, I even managed to make all USB ports stop working testing some of these solutions, I had to restore windows from a ghost image I had.

It's like these USB ports remain suspended sometimes.

Any advice on what to try? The most annoying part is that from the frontal USB ports some stop working randomly too.

Thank you

Any suggestions in helping to solve this one would be a great help. Google brings up Intel VIIV for Media Centre but doesn't help me very much.

In Device Manager, there is a USB Mass Storage Device or an Unknown Device, even when there isn't anything plugged in. This is occurring on a Dell Dimension 5100. This is not the pc in my system specs. How do I fix this?
Here are some Device Manager screenshots:

A:USB Mass Storage Device/Unknown Device

The PC is unplugged from power (with all USB devices unplugged, as well as the DVI and ethernet cables) and the CMOS battery is removed.

Hello everyone, I hope you could give me some clue that may have caused the appearance of an unknown device. All information here : An unknown device appears

First, That was solved by uninstalling and rebooting, did not appear anymore. But as I said in the previous topic, that solution does not leave me entirely peaceful.
Since when searching for information on the issue, some say it may be a virus. But also by the HWMonitor. I prefer it was caused by HWMonitor instead of a virus.

Can give me a hand to remove my doubts about whether it was caused by a virus or not.

I scanned all the PC with ESET 6 and nothing.

Thank you for your time and help

Sure, lets begin:

1.) Download herdprotect: (choose the portable version)

Download herdProtect - Free Anti-Malware Platform

2.) Run the scan.

3.) When the scan finishes, save the results per the screenshot below. Then upload the log here.

DO NOT REMOVE ANYTHING YET. I will advise if anything needs removed when I receive the log.

Hi, I got a Toshiba satellite: A135-S2386 and I have a usb port problem. I got 4 usb ports on this laptop and all four are non-responsive. I tried restoring the laptop to its factory setting and updated the BIOS. I also tried to go into device manager and uninstalling all the usb drivers, restart, and plug in the usb device again. Its weird because when I plug my usb devices in, it still show that the device is connected because the device is charging. The unknown device that I uninstall will reinstall itself automatically and I already run 3 different virus scans from 3 different virus scanners. I used the Toshiba hardware scan and it came back normal. Everything seem to be ok except that the port does not detect my devices and I have google this problem for over a week now. So HELP PLS

I have an external Bluray/DVD drive (ODP1201=S3-B) that works perfectly on Windows 7 but is not recognised by my new laptop which has Windows 8.1 64 bit. Can anybody explain why this is and what I do to get pass it, or is this a problem with Windows 8.1?

The device is listed in Win 7 as "hp bd rom bc 5501h", and the driver is 6.1.7601.17514

I have now tried various USB devices; I have connected a USB 2.0 External Hard Drive and a USB 2.0 Canon Camera both of which work OK, I have also connected a Seagate 1T external drive which is USB 3.0 an that was OK as well (the ports are all USB 3.0 on the laptop hence the reference to the which USB type)

The error message is as follows: "USB Device Not Recognised", When I go in to Device Manager I find two USB error listings, Unknown USB Devise (Device Descriptor Request failed) & Unknown USB Devise (Port Reset Failed)

I have been advised that this error can arise when a drive doesn't receive enough power from the system. The device does have two USB connectors, I have tried using both of them. The power cable going to the powered USB on the laptop and the data going to the adjacent USB (there are a pair of USB sockets on either side of the laptop, the right hand side having the only powered socket).

A:Unknown USB Device - A request for the USB device descript

I'm too of opinion that it's a power issue. Laptops are not known to have much power thru USB ports, not even some desktops for that matter. Possible solutions: If that laptop has USB3 port you can try it in there, it gives more power and is compatible with USB2. Another one is to ad external power to the drive. One of the USB connectors on the twin cable has only two connection tabs and is for extra power to device. That one can be connected to universal USB charger for phones etc. That's how I solved a problem with a HDD in external enclosure.

Recently I attempted to connect to an existing paired connection to my phone via bluetooth. I have never had this problem before, yet suddenly Bluetooth is missing. There is no longer an icon in the taskbar, the setting in "PC and Devices" is missing, and there appears to not be a driver installed, rather, an ""Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" appears in my devices instead. I have taken many steps to attempt and fix this, such as:
manually starting Bluetooth services from services.mscuninstalling the "Unknown Device" driver, then attempting to let Windows reinstalldownloaded the driver software from Lenovo for the Bluetooth adapter, installed it manually restartedtake a system restore created yesterday and revert back to it

Everything else in the PC functions perfectly. Any help is appreciated

A:Bluetooth Device Missing, Unknown USB Device

I had a similar problem recently where my bluetooth seemed to have just disappeared.
I ran the Find and Fix problems with devices (Just typed it into the start screen). It found one thing which by memory said something about a usb device being disabled. Clicked for it to fix the problem and enable it. Sure enough my bluetooth was right back.
Not sure if it will work for you, but its worth a try.

Hi,
I've been scouring the newsgroups for answers to the following problem and have tried everything suggested to no avail...

My USB 2.0 Pen Drive was working fine until yesterday. It now shows as unknown device and windows reports that it may not function correctly. It doesn't work at all!

However, I took it to work with me and (on a USB 1.1 PC) it worked well.

When I returned home, I tried again in my PC to no avail. I then tried uninstalling Root Hubs and Controllers and the like from Device Manager as suggested in many newsgroups and the thing sprang back into life. However, as soon as the
Enhanced USB driver is detected, the pen drive vanishes and the 'unknown device' returns.

I've been into safe mode, I've tried to delete the 'VID keys' from the USB section of the registry (which won't delete even though I log in as the administrator) and I've removed all USB devices and then uninstalled all hubs from Devce Manager and let them reinstall themselves.

I now have my Pen Drive working in (I assume) 1.1 mode by means of 'disabling' the 'enhanced host controller'. As soon as it is re-enabled I lose my Pen Drive and return to 'Unknown Device'.

XP says that my 'Enhanced Controller' has no problems.

Please help - everything was fine on Monday and a restore does no good at all. Why can I not delete the VID keys?

Thanks in advance,

Daz

It still come up as unrecognized each time even with fresh reinstall.
I was wondering if this is a hardware issue or just software bug from factory reset.

I have recently bought a reconditioned Fujitsu Lifebook S6120.

I have successfully installed all the drivers from Fujitsu's web site. But there is still one "unknown device" - USB BT. Since the machine has an original Bluetooth sticker and the software does not see bluetooth, I suspect this may stand for USB Bluetooth.

The device has the ID

USB\VID_044E&PID_3001&MI_00\6&125FD8C2&0&0000

Does anybody know what this means?
Are any drivers available for this device?
I have used the XP device manager's WEB search,
and manually Fujitsu's site and Driverguide.com but not found anything.

For the moment I've disabled the device to stop getting repeated "found new hardware" messages.

I have a portable hard drive that i attach to my computer via USB.
It has worked fine so far but now when i plug it in the only response i get a message saying "USB device not recognized, one of the devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned....." and under Device Manager in Universal Serial Bus Controller Ican see not 1 but 2 Unknown Devices.

If I uninstall them both, unplug the hard drive from the usb port and do a Scan For Hardware Changes then I will get the message "Unkown Device. Device Driver Software installed successfully" and one unknown device will reappear in the Universal Serial Bus Controller.
Now I wonder: what device is that?? Clicking on properties doesn't really help

Plugging in the usb hard drive will bring again the error message "USB device not recognized....." then "Unknown device. Device driver software installed successfully" and the unknown devices number in Device manager back to 2.

The usb hard drive works fine on other computers so that is not the problem

Don't know if I have been very clear in describing the problem but any help would be appreciated.

I have a Dell notebook, with what I believe is a USB 1.1 port on it. I recently bought a Microsoft wireless notebook optical mouse. There is no installation CD with it, you are just supposed to plug it in and it should work. Well when I do that, I get an error comes up saying USB device not recognized. When I look at the properties it says "no drivers are installed for this device", and I have the device usage as enabled. I've tried updating the driver and it says I have the most recent updates installed. It comes up as an unknown device as well.

Other things like my printer work in this USB port, so I don't think the port itself is defective. I also plugged the mouse into another computer and it works with no problems. I am running on XP with SP2 installed.

The product specs say it should work on USB 1.1 or 2.0, so I don't think that is the problem either. Any ideas? I've gone through all of the troubleshooting with no luck.

Hi

Recently installed vista ultimate x64 fresh on new hd. I have been using the same copy on my older hd for 8 months.

As far as i'm aware i've installed all newest drivers for hardware.

There are two 'other devices' for which no drivers are installed. One I'm pretty certain is the gameport on my audigy 2 zs platinum pro [location = pci bus 2], which isn't supported in vista. the other one is a mystery [location = 'on Msoft ACPI-Compliant System].

I don't care about the gameport but i'd like to get to the bottom of the second device. The thing is the only thing that makes any sense to me in properties/details is in 'siblings' - it looks exactly like the description in the same properties/details for my cpu [athlon 64 x2 6000+] for which there are already 2 instances in 'processors'.

""ACPI\AuthenticAMD_-_AMD64_Family_15_model_67\_0""

etc..

Could this unknown device have something to do with the cpu and might the fact it's unknown be affecting the computer performance?

I can give further info if required. I've no idea what might be needed!

TIA

I just put in a new Motherboard. An ASUS K8V-MX. It's a Socket 754 with a Athlon 64 processor, an Nvidia video card, 256 MB, A Creative Labs Audigy SE sound card and 2GB's of Kingston memory. I am runnning Windows XP Pro x64 on it.

I just loaded Windows yesterday and I like to get all of my drivers and updates installed first. I also usually check in Device Manager to see if there is ever anything I didn't catch. In my setup, there is a Raid Controller, and since I don't use Raid, I just disabled it. There is also an unknown device, and it's driving me crazy not knowing what it is. I ran this OS on a previous motherboard and it didn't show up there, so I don't know.

I tried to find a driver for it online by clicking on update driver but nothing came back. Then I made the mistake of uninstalling it, only to have it ask me everytime during bootup that there is new hardware and would I like to try to find the driver for it. So I disabled it. But I'm still wondering what it can be.

I would have attached a screenshot of the properties window for the unknown device but I couldnt get it to upload on here. It does mention something about VIA PCI to ISA Bridge. Hope that helps. But I have no ISA slots!

Also is there any way, through the registry or whatever to just completely get rid of these entries in Device manager? The RAID entry and the unknown device?

I recently decided to to a clean install of Windows 7 7127 RC x64. I have been running Windows 7 x86 because even though I have x64 processors, my laptop came with Vista Ultimate x86 installed on it.

After reading about the differences between x86 and x64 systems and the fact that I have 4GB of memory that only came up as 3GB under x86 I thought I would experiment with Windows 7 x64.

My only problem so far is one unknown device under device manger. I originally had three unknown devices but the first two were based on my Nforce PCI system devices which I finally found here:

nforce Vista driver in Others drivers - Windows Vista Downloads

These are the drivers that worked for my AMD based Nforce system :

After installing the drivers I still have that one unknown device listed. I tried to run DriverMax but it only supports Vista x86 not x64. I also tried PC Wizard and a program called "Unknown Devices" that just tells me I have one unknown device...No Duh!!

I tried to identify the device by PCI vendor ID but it doesn't show one. Since the laptop came with everything pre-installed I have no idea what it can be.

These are the only things I can find to identify it.

I have a Dell Dimension 4550 which i bought around 2002 brand new. Everything worked fine for a while until maybe two or three years ago. At the time, i was using all the usb plug ins which included 4 in the back and 2 in the front for different devices. Some of which included three external hard drives. I was trying to organize a number of project by placing them into different drives at the time. Some of my hard drives started to malfunction one by one. Then my usb connections started to malfunction and my computer could or would not recognize the device that was plugged in even though they all are 'plug and play' devices. The funny thing about this problem is by changing the location of the usb plug in sometimes the computer would recognize the device. However this also started to give me major problems SO i bought a usb pci card and thing started to work better as far as using the pci card. Eventually i bought another usb pci card and now i have 8 additional usb slots. One of my biggest concerns is reconnecting my external hard drives but connecting them to the pci cards, my system is recognizing them. Now the issue i am having allot of problems with is my flash drives. trying to connect them to the front two usb ports i get an edit (usb device not recognized - unknown device). Looking at the device manager the device is connected to the computer but there is no drivers for the item. There is a special code for that and clicking on the help button just brings up a blank... Hello,I recently put together a new computer, and in the process of of installing the USB 3.0 connector from the front of my GX500 case, I either bent numerous pins on the motherboard USB 3.0 header or the motherboard shipped that way and I inadvertently made matters worse. Anyway, that header on the motherboard is without a doubt unusable.Since I don't really need the USB 3.0 functionality, I bought a USB 3.0 -> 2.0 adapter cable, connected one end to the connector on the front of the case and the other end into the USB 2.0/1.1 header on the motherboard. I've tried both USB 2.0/1.1 headers on the motherboard, and I've tried plugging in several devices to the front USB ports, and this problem still persists.I've ensured the connection inside the case is solid, yet I cannot get Windows to recognize the front USB ports.  However, I have confirmed that power is being sent to the front ports because it charges my phone when I co... Hi,

On a fresh clean Windows 8 image, my software driver (signed) installs fine and shows up properly in the Device Manager. However once i uninstall it , subsequent reinstalls show up as 'Unknown Device' in the Device Manager.

From the device details, I find that it refers to /looks for the .inf file in c:\windows\inf folder but the file itself is missing from the location. The FileRepository has all the required files. But trying to update from there also fails.

Could anyone help me with troubleshooting this problem. What could be going wrong.

Thx,

IBM ThinkCentre A50 8320-7EG, Windows XP

Just reformatted and reinstalled, lists the ethernet, audio and video as 'unknown devices' (ethernet at least definately worked fine before reformat). All integrated with the motherboard.

Have tried to install drivers from the disk, downloaded from the IBM website and from driver packs but nothing has had any effect, using the wizard it won't recognise any drivers, installing the alleged drivers manually it says they have installed on the installation wizard thing, but nothing's changed with the device in device manager.

I assume somehow I must have the wrong drivers, but not sure how this could be the case, or really what else I can try.

Thanks very much for any help!!

Hi, I'm trying to reinstall my sister's scanner driver because XP has decided that it's not there any more. This happens occasionally and usually reinstalling the driver fixes it (I think that's what I did last time), but this time i just can't get it to work.

If i unplug the USB cable then plug it in again, it comes up with a message saying that the device has malfunctioned and it doesn't recognize it. I have the driver CD but windows always manages to install it as "Unknown device" before i can tell it to search the CD. I've tried telling it to reinstall the driver from the CD but it says that there are "no better matches for this device". I've also tried uninstalling the program form the CD and reinstalling it then restarting the pc but that didn't help either. I tried plugging it into another USB port (as suggested by Windows Help Center) but that still didn't work.

It's not often that something like this gets me in a circle and scratching my head but I'm really starting to run out of ideas.

Any help would be very appreciated, i just want to get this thing running again

Greetings,

I'm running Home Premium 64 on a Sony Vaio Laptop (CS170F). I'm having a curious problem: Yesterday I plugged into the machine the dongle of my wireless logitech mouse, and for some reason the machine said "Your unknown device is ready to use" (my OS is in spanish, the messages may not be accurately translated). Since then, an annoying message pops every few seconds warning about an "unrecognized USB device", that "didn't work as expected". The best part is this, if I click on the tray icon, sometimes the informative dialog window is emply, an other times shows all the USB ports in the system plus one extra with a "unknown UBS device", even without any device plugged into the system. I've tryed removing the unknown device from the device manager, but it shows up again.

I'll really appreciate any pointer, link or suggestion.

Thanks in advance, and best regards.
Antonio.

Ever since the upgrade my CPU is constantly running at 98-100% all the time meaning I cannot do anything on my PC. In device manager I see that I have some drivers missing and all attempts to update these have failed and i've seen other users here post the missing drivers and be directed to the fixes.

Any help here?

Windows insists on trying to load an Unknown Device but can't find any drivers for it. Everything seems to be working ok, too, so when I choose to cancel the install or delete it from Device Manager once it does install, I don't notice any loss in performance. All my connected peripherals are accounted for.

Looking at my bootlog.txt, on page 15, I see:
{new line} [000C3242] Starting TelePath 56K for Windows (ISAPNP\USR1001\68490508)
{new line} [000C3242] Dynamic load device
{new line} [000C3243] Dynamic load failed
{new line} [000C3244] Started TelePath 56K for Windows (ISAPNP\USR1001\68490508)

The text {new line} is my addition to mark each new line in the log.

This suggests to me that the problem might be in the modem, but I've tried removing and reinstalling the modem. No change. Short of actually removing the modem card, which I don't really care to do, I'm stumped.

Other peripherals I have installed are: Gina sound card, MOTU Midi controller, Iomega Ditto 2GB tape drive, HP 8100E CD-RW, Mitsumi CD-ROM drive, Canon scanner. As I said, all seem to be operating as they should. I removed the Ditto and MOTU cards with no change. Windows still tries to load an Unknown Device.

It loads it under the same category, Unknown Device.

Any suggestions?

Have you checked in control panel-system, is there a yellow cirle with an exclamation mark init next to the modem, or any other device for that matter. I know that sometimes the device part installs and works but there may be some feature which hasnt been setup correctly, identified by this marker. If there is then your modem doesnt seem to be installed properley.
HOPE THIS HELPS.

It's because you're running Windows XP Professional. I have the same processor and an Intel Viiv compatible board and I get the same thing. If you were to install XP Media Center Edition or Vista, then you would be okay. You can leave the device as unknown, it will not affect anything. Please view the following link for more info:

I have currently ran out of ideas, i have googled and tried every answer but have yet to come up with a solution so here i am, I have a Compaq Presario SR1910AN Desktop PC running Windows XP Home Edition SP3. A few weeks ago i tried to plug in my LG Renoir phone to download pictures which i've down a million times before with no problem however i got an error "Usb Device Not Recognized" One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it" ever since then no matter what i plug in printers, mouse, ipod, they all come up with the same error, however it still charges my ipod and phone. So I went into the device manager and found 4 x Unknown Devices so i uninstalled them rebooted the computer twice, but when i returned to windows they just installed themselves again with no usb's even plugged in. I then downloaded USB View which said the "Unknown Devices Failed Enumeration" i then downloaded USB Deview and got the ID for each USB Unknown Device as VID_0000 and PID_0000. Do i need to try and buy a new usb port i've tried a hub and it didn't work either can someone please help?

Thank You

Not really, no.

You can do it by process of elimination if you really want to... take out all your add on cards (modem, sound, etc) and put them back in one at a time to see which one it is.

Not sure it's worth doing that though.

ok so this seems to be a little different than most unknown device problems
all of my devices work fine

i keep getting pop ups in the task bar telling me new hardware has been found
then it pops up unknown USB device not recognized
sure enough when i go into my device manager there is an unknown device attached to the usb controller
now it seems to come and go and if i watch the device manager for a couple minutes you can see it connecting then disappearing 4, 5, 6 times in a row

it first started doing this when i had a couple usb devices plugged in (external hd, mouse, printer)
since then i have gone as far as doing a fresh XP install and not connecting any usb devices at all
but sure enough after a short while new hardware pop up and followed by unknown usb device not recognized
i check device manager and there it is
it also seems to be sitting in the registry at vid_0000&pid_0000
i can delete the registry and i can uninstall the device but it just keeps coming back

now none of this seems to be causing a problem
and all of my devices work when plugged in
but its an annoyance to have the new hardware and unknown device balloon tip pop up
i know i could disable those but clearly there is something wrong and id like to get to the bottom of it rather than just hide it

the very first time that it happened was right after i unplugged a storage device from the front of my case (rather violently)
at first i thought maybe i damaged the pins when i pulled it out

I just installed an internal 6-in-1 USB2 card reader (model name IR3-USB2) that also has front USB2 and Firewire ports. After installing it I looked at Windows Explorer and noticed several additional drive letters, about the same number for each of the card slots in the reader and assumed that it installed correctly. I then went on to install an Adaptec DuoConnect 3121 USB2 and Firewire card. Now the card reader drive letters are not showing up in Explorer. Looking at Device manager I see one item "Unknown Device" showing up under USB Controllers. Device Manager tells me that it does not know what this is and no driver has been assigned. According to the owners manual that came with the card reader I shouldn't need a driver if the OS is Windows XP. The DuoConnect is working because I have the front Firewire port on the card reader plugged in the internal Firewire port on the back of the DuoConnect. The card reader itself and the USB2 front port cables from the crad reader are plugged into the two USB2 plugs on my motherboard (Intel D865PERL). Neither are working.

Any suggestions?

Hi and welcome BC

You wouldn't by any chance be running a mac, would you? that error code is almost exclusively from there. Anyway. IN device manager go to hte unknown device. right click>properties>details>use pull down>find hardware IDs. copy that string into google and the string should point to the MFR.

Good luck and let us know if you need help with that

This is not a new problem, it has been there as long as W7 has been installed, but since I have not experienced anything inoperative or other problems, I've let it go unattended until now, simply out of laziness. I'm looking at it now, because it has been nagging me too long.

I have very little data to go on, except that found in the two screenshots below. The question is, how to pursue this without going in circles?
