Now that I've installed Windows 10, why can't I turn on my wifi?

Q: Now that I've installed Windows 10, why can't I turn on my wifi?

Since I installed Windows 10 a few days ago, I haven't used my wifi, but now I find I can't turn it on. At the time of installation the f12 (wifi) key on my HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook was in the off position. Now it won't respond, and I can't turn wifi on any other way. The greyed-out box in the lower right hand corner won't respond (though the airplane mode will). When I'm in Settings: Network & Internet, the slider keeps going back to off. Can't turn it on under Network and Internet: Network Connections, and have already tried disabling and enabling the Wireless Network Connection. Under Manage Wi-Fi settings is some stuff about Wi-Fi Sense, which I'm not interested in -- hope this is not a ploy to make me use it!
Any ideas, aside from resetting the computer? Thanks!!!

A: Now that I've installed Windows 10, why can't I turn on my wifi?

I have the same problem. I assumed either my wifi had gone out(coincidence) or Windows 10 drivers... its also a HP Pavilion DV6 with amd chipset with Realtek wifi adapter. I have tried rolling back, updating drivers, uninstalling adapter reinstalling adapter...to no avail.

Airplane mode needs to be on. It appears that you are connected through a dial-up connection at that moment.

Does the wifi adapter show up in Device Manager and show working? You have a physical switch to turn it on/off? Could be the switch.

Try uninstalling then re-installing the adapter.

I recently downgraded from windows 8 to windows 7 64 bit. I have managed to install most of the drivers but the wifi won't turn on. When i troubleshoot it says WIFI hasn't been turned on. The wifi button on the keyboard shows a solid white light and it won't turn on or off when i press it, it seems it is stuck. Universal Serial Bus (USB) controller is not yet installed and it shows up with yellow exclamation mark in the device manager. I have tried sp66089.exe sp64950.exe from HP website. I hvae attached a picture of the device manager screen.

I have a HP pavilion dv6 laptop with a Intel(R) centrino(R) wireless 1030. After I upgraded to windows 10 from windows 7 it worked fine until after a few times of restart (after update). All of a sudden the wireless would not turn on. If i hit the wireless key, all it does is turn airplane mode on and off. When I go into the "Network and Internet" under settings, the switch that would turn wifi on would imediately turn flip off. I also noticed that the wifi Intel centino is "not connected". My Ethernet still works, but wifi does not. I have updated the drivers, and went into command prompt to enter in"reg delete HKCR\CLSID\{988248f3-a1ad-49bf-9170-676cbbc36ba3} /va /f" but it said "error: The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value."and "netcfg -v -u dni_dne"which showed"trying to uninstall dni_dne ...... dni_dne is not installed....done." how do i fix thix problem?

A:Can't Turn on Wifi on laptop after windows 10 upgrade

try reinstalling windows as the latest update of windows 10 has a few known bugs. Use the ?go back? feature to uninstall the Anniversary Update.  Once removed, you can re-install using the Windows Update Assistant by going to the Windows 10 download page and clicking the Update Now button. There are two methods to uninstall the Anniversary Update:  Method 1: Using the Recovery Console1.      Restart your PC. When you get to the sign-in screen, hold the Shift key down while you select Power > Restart.2.      After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Go back to the previous build.  If you don?t see this option, try Method 2. Method 2: Using the Settings app from Safe Mode1.      Restart your PC. When you get to the sign-in screen, hold the Shift key down while you select Power > Restart.2.      After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.3.      After your PC restarts, you'll see a list of options. Select 4 or F4 to start your PC in Safe Mode.4.      Open the Settings app.5.      Select Update & security and then the Recovery tab.Under ?Go back to an earlier build?, click the Get started button and follow the ins... Hi, so I am running windows 7 x64 on a Y700 ideapad. I can't figure out how to turn off my wifi antenna. Looking at the keyboard I see the plane icon which normally means airplane mode. I want my wifi radio off and just use my lan line wire connection.  Regardless if I press FN+airplane, in the the black window that pops up it says "first switch on the wireless device" which makes no sense. My wifi radio is on currently all drivers are upto date.

A:Y700 - Turn off Wifi from Keyboard - Windows 7

I do not know why the airplane mode is saying to "first turn on the wireless device", but you can enable/disable the WiFi adapater by following the steps outlined in the link below.   Normally the Airplane mode is the on/off for the WiFi radio,m but it does not disable the card itself, while the steps linked below will. How to turn wireless connectivity on or off in Windows 7http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/network-wifi/how-to-turn-wireless-connectivity-on-or-off-in-window...  Good Luck,

There is more than one way to do this but all require that you are using a certified Windows 7 driver which installs the Msoft Virtual WiFi adaptor which is used to set up the hosted wireless network.

The real problem with this is that if you already have a wireless connection then why would you need to create an Ad Hoc network in the first place?

I guess if you were somehow limited to a single connection it might come in handy, or if you needed to amplify the signal. You can't share through an Ethernet connection, it only works wireless to wireless.

You can set this up using the command prompt or you can install the connectify software which makes it easier for some. The links below explains the details about setting this up, take your pick, the last one is a download for a virtual router if that's what you wanted.

I even tried to uninstall this driver and delete driver files and restart windows but no success.

The Broadcom 802.11n is the network card(rj-45) and not the wireless adapter. You can click the link below to add your service tag to have your needed drivers detected for your computer.

Ad-Hoc requires that you restart the session each time.

Connectify pro has an auto start option that does this but it's a paid version, connectify lite is free but I'm not sure if has auto start.

Hi all Following a recent hard drive failure, I did a clean install of Windows 10 Enterprise (the ideapad originally came with a Windows 7 OEM licence). The wifi device, 'Qualcomm Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter' is present in the device manager and is reported as working. In the 'Network & Internet' settings dialog, if I turn wifi on, it is immediately turned off again. fn-F5 does nothing (the Lenovo Wireless Settings dialog is not displayed).  Perhaps I need to (re-)install this somehow? The WLAN Auto Config service is running (automatic). Cisco AnyConnect is not installed; I am actually trying to install it over wifi by connecting to my company's VPN server (which is not accessible using a wired connection) so that I can Activate Windows 10. Any ideas on how I can turn wifi on? TIA :-)

A:Z380 Ideapad: Unable to turn wifi on after Windows...

fn-F6 has stopped working now too :-( so I cannot turn off the touchpad which is pretty annoying when your job requires a lot of typing. I have no idea why. I tried uninstalling the wifi adapter driver and installing the one from Lenovo's website, but I still cannot turn wifi on and fn-F5 still does not bring up the Wifi Settings dialog. Perhaps my laptop model just isn't supported under Windows 10?

Hi Guys,
This is Viral. I am using an Acer laptop model ASPIRE 4736 since the last five years. There haven't been much issues with it. except for the battery and thats it. But recently, since last two weeks I noticed that my Wifi would stop blinking after sometime after I start my laptop and then it wouldn't work even when I try to turn on and turn off the Wifi switch(it doesn't respond anything). I tried searching the net for this issue using my office laptop and found that a system restore would help to solve this issue. Since I remembered that I updated Java as well as there was this ad software which got installed and I had unistalled it. So I did a system restore and then when I opened the device manager, I am not able to see intel r wifi link 5100 driver on it. I tried restarting my laptop and did everything and couldn't find the driver(it was there before the system restore). But later on the same day, the driver got installed automatically and the WiFi started working but only for a couple of minutes after the restart and then it stopped. So  I did the system restore again to the date when everything was working perfectly and when i did that, again my intel r wifi link 5100 driver is not shown on the device manager(network adapters). I don't if it would automatically get installed or not but its sure that the WiFi issue still be there. So can you please help with this issue?

I got a Dell E6220 with Windows 7 32bits. Our System Admin pushed the new A/V upgrade from Symantec 11 to Symantec 12 and that broke all the network connectivities including Ethernet and Wifi.

I was able to run CleanWipe couple time and get rid of all the Symantec crap and checked the registry to make sure there aren't any Symantec stuff in there.

I was able to re-install the Ethernet adaptor and that got the internet working. But when I un-install the WiFi adaptor and re-installed it. It never really re-established the connection between the hardware and Windows. I un-installed the adaptor and re-installed it couple times but no prevail.

The adaptor's driver is installed properly and it's enabled in the control panel. But there is X mark on the wifi symbol and it says troubleshoot. When I try to troubleshoot it say the driver might not be installed properly.

I also plugged in the Netgear USB Wifi Adaptor and it was able to install it but it's doing the same thing as the built in adaptor.

I restart the WLAN service couple times but still no prevail. The Ethernet is working fine without any issue.

So it seems like the WiFi connectivity/services are messed up in the registry. I would hate to re-install windows. ANY SUGGESTIONS??. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

I've got a Lenovo ideapad Z470 laptop and the WiFi modem/card in it won't turn on.

The laptop has a physical switch on the front which turns on/off the wifi.

If I turn the switch to on, an image appears on the screen saying its been turned on and vice versa if I switch it off.

However, Windows isn't showing it as being available in the system tray.

I can connect via ethernet and have tried using the Wifi to connect to two different networks and it looks like the card is the problem.

If you look at my previous posts, they have been about my laptop not connecting to the internet. Perhaps this is why?

Can they be fixed or replaced?

I try also to use CMD, but it tell me that no wirless connection.

I try to use troubleshoot from windows but it tell me that have a probleme with Ethernet card "No cable or ....", but no problem with wirless card.

I think that the wifi is off, but i can't turn it on.

Can any one help me please.

I have a netbook/notebook with some keys do not work anymore. I am now using an external keyboard but it does not funtion exactly as the built in keyboard. Using the built in key, I can turn some features like turning on the wifi by pressing fn keys and F8. But with the external keyboard, it does not work. I cannot turn on WIFI anymore or any other feature that this netbook has.

I am considering replacing the built-in keyboard but do not have budget as of the moment. I tried google but it did not help.
I have U135DX, I believe, it's the model number. It's MSI, running windows 7 starter. These are the information. I hope that will help.

A:How do I turn on WIFI without the keyboard.

Some wireless adapters allow you to enable/disable radio in their advanced settings but I am not sure if this would work for a wireless adapter disabled via the keyboard.

You could disable the wireless adapter you have and purchase a USB wireless adapter like this.

I live in student accommodation and the wired internet is free but you have to upgrade 30 per device (so laptop, mobile, ipad) per year for wifi.

I was wondering whether it is possible at all to purchase any hardware/software that would allow me to convert the wired connection to wifi? Bearing in mind I only have access to the jack on the wall. I'm not sure if it is even possible but it's just annoying that I have to pay per device.

Hopefully somebody can help me with this problem. I recently bought and installed Dual 12" UV CCFL Lights, but they will not turn on. They are A.C. Ryan brand, model# ACR-CC6801 and I am trying to install them in a Windows XP System. Direction say to "plug into Power Supply and turn on!" But when I turn on the power switch on the lights, they do not turn on. Since they are brand new, I'm assuming that they SHOULD work out of the box, but... Any ideas, besides returning them.

I have an HP ENVY Ts15 Notebook PC.  Product #  E1P05AV.   I tried to find ways to connect to bluetooth device but can not find a place to turn or switch the bluetooth.  Does my notebook come with the bluetooth enabled hardware? Augustine

A:Can not turn on Bluetooth? Is it installed in my Notebook?

Hi, Augustine: Some models have bluetooth networking and some don't. It all depends on what model wireless network adapter each notebook model has. Some wireless network adapters are also combination bluetooth adapters and some aren't. If you post the name and model number of the wireless network adapter your notebook has, I will let you know if that card is wireless only, or wireless/bluetooth. If you don't know what model wireless network adapter your notebook has, go to the device manager, and click to expand the network adapters device category. There you will find the name and model number of the wireless network adapter.

Do new programs installed on Windows XP show a different color in the start menu? Does this just mean that they are new? If so, how long does the color stay different to show that they are new? Or does the color mean something else? I installed some new software, and was informed that I had done this in the Start Menu.

Have you checked to set what wireless adapter is set as default since you've turned wifi off? Since you turned it off, the default setting may have changed which could explain your not being able to connect to your wifi.

My Laptop's been fine for 2 years...when I'm on battery, I switch the wifi off via the switch on the laptop. However, all of a sudden, the Wifi won't turn on again! The switch isn't broken (I've moved it back and forth), and I've tried the software switch ( Fn+F5), but that doesn't work either! I dual boot Windows 8+7, and neither OS has wifi on. I've also tried uninstalling drivers/disabling the adapter via Device Manager, but no luck! I also went into the BIOS, disabled the adapter through there, launched Windows 8, then rebooted and reenabed the Wifi, and that didn't work either =(.EDIT: Windows troubleshooting says "Turn on wireless capability: Use the switch on the front or side of the comptuer, or function keys if available, to enable wireless capability on this computer".My warranty ended over a year ago!Paying to send in the laptop for this would suck. Recently, on the ipod touch I have been able to browse for a while then the internet stops loading pages. It shows I am still connected but I have to turn off the WIFI and then turn it back on again and reconnect and everything is ok for a while.

Now it is starting to happen on one of the Windows XP Home laptops.

I browse for a while, then pages stop loading. I am still connected. If I turn the WIFI adapter on the laptop off then on again and reconnect I can surf for a while.

During the period I cannot surf on the laptop I can on the ipod so there is a live connection beyond the router.

Any ideas?

A:how to turn on Wifi in sony Vaio

Do you have a physical button or switch on your laptop which you can push? Almost all laptops have this feature so that you can turn the wireless off.

If not then you should be able to force it by going to Start> Control panel

Once opened click on 'Network and Internet'

Afterwards, click on 'Networking and Sharing Center'

From here you want to click on 'Change Adapter Settings'

Now, right click on the wireless adapter listed and click on 'Enable'. This should enable your wi-fi card

Hope This Helps,
Josh!

I have Win 7 Home Premium.

Is there an easy way to disable my wireless connection so that (a) it does not enable itself after a reboot, and (b) I don't need to implement the complete process to re-enable the wireless?

Under normal circumstances, the re-enable after a reboot is fine. I can disconnect WiFi from the system tray, and it reconnects after reboot.

But sometimes, I might want wireless to remain disabled after reboot. For example, if I'm doing a database restore, and the database starts synching after a reboot (such as Evernote), it could cause problems :-)

At the moment, I simply switch off the router until the database restore is complete.

A:Y50-70 wifi: no appropriate driver to be installed

hi iceblu3,

The No appropriate driver to be installed means that you most likely installing a driver for a different Wi-Fi adapter (eg. You're installing an Intel Wi-Fi driver for a Broadcom card).

To find out the correct diver for your device, can you try to follow this guide on how to identify the wireless card manufacturer (or post the hardware ID here).

After knowing the brand of the Wi-Fi card (eg. Intel  Wireless AC 3160), try to install one of these drivers:

Intel WLAN Driver for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) - Lenovo Y50-70, Y50-70 Touch
WLAN Driver (Atheros, Broadcom, Realtek) for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) - Lenovo Y50-70, Y50-70 Touch

Let me know how it goes.

my computer is, i believe a 2003 model emachines computer, with 756 mb of ram, windows xp sp2, and two hard drives, nvidea gforce fx 5500, and is a desktop.

I took a piece of ram from an older computer which had it's motherboard some how break down, i figured the ram would still be ok. i tried to put it in my computer but since it wouldn't snap in correctly i thought i could kinda just leave it there hanging with only one side snapped in.

i tried to turn on my computer and when my computer operated normally this green light around the power button would light up and everything would work fine.

however, when i just kinda left the new ram hanging there nothing even showed up on the monitor screen. it didn't even show anything, nor did the monitor even turn on. it was like a turned off tv. it didn't make any twinng or turning on sound.

so i decided to take out the ram i foolishly did not securely put in, and just put back my old ram, restored the computer completely back to how it used to be when it was working, and tried to turn the computer back on.

and the result was:

my computer turned on, however it would still not connect to the monitor and the monitor was still acting like a blank screen, but i know that monitor is fine because i didn't mess with it at all and it was working perfectly before i tried to put in new ram without secruring it properly... so i dont know what's wrong.

By using incorrect memory and not fully inserting it in the slot when you turned the machine on, you may have short circuited the board circuitry.

The only thing to do is to start changing components, but I believe you may have blown the motherboard.

The router will broadcast a wireless signal - enabling any device to pick up and use the router to access the internet, providing the router is connected to an internet service.

Nothing to do with your PC
The PC is just another device that can connect to the wireless broadcast by the router
But the PC will need to be switched on to do that
Other devices can continue to use the router , even with your PC off

My adapter is always gone from resuming from sleep. I know it was working before. Just changed my ram and bios settings from a fresh build. Went from Corsair xms3 to G.Skill Ripjaws.

I am having this same issue with my newly built pc. The drive running Windows 7 is from a laptop where the mobo died. I am using it in AHCI mode because my case has a front hot swap caddy.

I have a Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 mobo and after installing and uninstalling drivers, software, changing settings, removing ram, changing power options to maximum power for pci card and wifi, turning off hibernate, restarted, rebooted, updated all drivers from Gigabyte, chipset drivers, etc. I have unchecked "allow Windows to turn off this device". Restarted and tested and I get the same issue. I have unchecked this box in all of my networking devices too including, 802.11n Wireless Lan Card #2 and Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter. Also, uninstalled and reinstalled these and updated drivers from my disc that came from Gigabyte as well as driver update from the Gigabyte website.

Nothing I do will turn on my wifi card after sleep. Windows will not see a network adapter. Everything works fine after restarting though. I have S3 enabled in bios as that is what I want. I have case fans that I don't want to hear with no option to turn them off. Otherwise, i'd be fine with S1.

I have a new PC (notebook) that my friend gave me. It's name is "Gigabook" which is not very famous.. I suspect it is a small company that combines hardware into a notebook.

Anyways, I have installed Windows 7 on it but found out that the internet doesn't work. for some reason I can't turn on the WiFi to find out my network and when I connect an Ethernet cable to the notebook, nothing happens..

I thought it's the driver, could download it and transfer it to the notebook via USB drive. the problem is I can't find the software anywhere..

My network card is WAN Miniport. I can check any other hardware here, it's just that you won't find anything about Gigabook..

P.S.
a) this is my first post on your forums. please forgive me if I posted in the wrong place or made other noob mistake.
b) I come from the Mac and Linux world, so I don't have a lot experience on this OS.. I'll appreciate any help.

Thank you very much in advance.

A:Can't Turn On WiFi And Ethernet Doesn't Work

What was the original OS? Did you run the Win 7 Upgrade Advisor before you installed Win 7? It's possible the wifi/Ethernet cards do not have available Win 7 drivers. What is the model number of your machine?

Hello, This is the first time I am using this forum so I hope someone can please help me. I have had to clean install Windows 7 Home Premium  on my HP Pavilion G6-1234sa now I am unable to turn the Wifi adapter on. I have tried all the drivers listed on the HP website under the HP Pavilion G6-1234sa model and none of them work, I have tied to turn the Wifi adapter on with Fn + F12 and just pressing F12 alone but that doesn?t work either. I have gone through the entire forum to find a solution to the issue I am facing however none of the suggestions I tried worked. Please can someone guide me to the correct Wifi driver for this model and how I can turn the adapter on? These are the drivers I have tried for this model: Realtek RTL8188CE 802.11bgn Wireless LAN Driver (SP57049)Realtek RTL8188CE Wireless LAN Driver June 2011 (SP55040)Wifi Driver June 2012 (SP57538) Thank you so much for your help!!

Hi: Please post the hardware ID for the wireless card, so I can figure out what driver you need for it. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and there should be a device listed as a Network Controller found under an Other Devices category. Click on the Network Controller device, and then click on the Details tab at the top of the Network Controller window. Now you will see a Property drop down list and it will be set on Device Description. Drop down on that list and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

Hello everyone.I just bought Lenovo Y700-15isk 80nv007jid for 6 days.I got some issue from the first day.The problems is:1. The wifi signal strength is poor (compare to my phone and another laptop)2. If I call using skype, the wifi disconnected for a while and not detect any wifi signal at all and so it's impossible to call through skype(the wifi is still accessible from other devices). After trying to update driver and find the fault, I found that the wifi disconnected every time I access the camera.  My wifi adapter is Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 Please help.

The keyboard of my laptop was broken so I cannot use "Fn" key to switch on the laptop's wifi adapter.
I am sure airplane mode has turn off my wifi because there is no light.
I tried to use "fn" of osk but that didn't help..
The last time also happened to me last year, but that time my keyboard still functioning so I able to solve that problem.
But now my keyboard not working, is there any shortcut/application/bat/vbs method to turn on without using keyboard?

@Brink /admin I need to private message you but I cannot see the "PM button" at your profile.
Can you send a private message to me or add my skype (decomodo90) ?

A:After turn off and on airplane mode, wifi had been disable

Hello Decomodo, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Turning on Airplane Mode would indeed also include turning off WiFi.

If you like, the shortcut below may help make it easier for you to turn on/off Airplane Mode.

Hi guys, I have a strange problem with one Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E145 notebooks. At first I was not able to start in windows the wireless but after multiple uninstall/install/update of the drivers I managed to do it. Still Windows shows WiFi on but in the same time off and I can't see any WLAN networks. The windows diagnose of the WLAN adapter shows - wireless capability is turned off The Lenovo Diagnostic Tools shows - Warning Hardware state is off I've checked BIOS, check the settings of the card and I don't have a hardware switch on the notebook. Is there any way that I could "reset" this lock or enable it somehow? Thanks in advance I forgot to add that the notebook is with Windows 10 64bit and there are not much apps and drivers for it.

My laptop will connect to the wifi throught the Ethernet cable but when I take the Ethernet out there is a red circle with a white cross in it on the connection icon in the bottom right of the screen.

A:how do i turn the wifi on on my Advent Monza T100?

Have you set up your Wifi by searching for your network name and inputting your pass phrase (or pass key)? The red circle might be just indicating that the Ethernet is not available.EDIT:Also press Windows key + R key then input ncpa.cpl in the Run box that comes up - hit Enter key. Do you see both the Ethernet and Wifi icons and is Wifi enabled?[Better add that you don't connect to Wifi using the Ethernet cable. You use one or the other]Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derek

Hi EDYYOO,
What is the current OS installed on the system? Does the ethernet work fine? Is the wireless card detected under network adapters in device manager? Did the issue start after any recent windows updates?
If the system was working fine earlier, then perform a system restore to restore the machine to an earlier point where it was working fine - http://dell.to/1Sg6khF
Update the BIOS if possible - http://dell.to/2fIMORn - restart the system and check if it works.
Restart the system and press f2 on startup to enter BIOS - check if Wireless swtich and wireless devices are enabled in BIOS.
Restart and check in safe mode with networking.
Enable the built in admin account and check - http://bit.ly/1Bgok2R
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hey guys,

I recently got a used PC off of a client I had been working with. I had Ubuntu Linux running on it, and now I've wiped that off and installed XP Pro. Problem is, the computer has a wifi card installed but I cannot get XP to recognize it. All it recognizes is the ethernet adapter. Any suggestions?

Thanks
