mini display port not working with HDMI display

Q: mini display port not working with HDMI display

Hello, I am attempting to use the mini display port outpt on the Thinkpad Yoga14 to connect to an HDMI monitor using a miniDP to HDMI adapter. I've tried two different adapters. The monitor is never recognized. However, the mini-display port will work with a miniDP to DVI or miniDP to VGA adapter cable (I verfied this at a store where there were multiple cables and monitors to use). miniDP to HDMI: does not workminiDP to DVI: worksminiDP to VGA: works Has anyone else seen this problem?

I'm using a Dell U3415W monitor. My video card is AMD Radeon RX480. The monitor is connected via DisplayPort to my computer. The monitor is connected via HDMI to my work laptop. When I want to switch over to HDMI, it acts as if I shut off the monitor on the Displayport shifting everything over to my secondary monitor. It causes no problem, but drives me nuts because when I switch back over to DIsplayPort, I have to move my open programs around again. Is there any simple way to make this stop? If I don't use DisplayPort, and instead use HDMI/DVI combination, the behavior described does not happen. I'm guessing that is just the way it is, but I'm hoping there is an easy way to make it stop.

Basically, I have this eye-finity graphics card, and it has 5 mini display ports, I need to buy a Mini-display port to VGA, but I'm not sure which will work.

On Amazon they have Mini-display port converters for Mac, they all seem to be Mac related, would a mac one work on my Windows PC? since it is just a converter? If not, then where could i buy one for PC for cheap?

I appreciate you taking your time reading this.

I have been doing a lot of research but all I find is B/S like when they were invented, royalty rights, extra pins ect. but not just some basics answers to some basic questions.

I have a video card and display both with HDMI and Display Port ability.
At the present time I'm using HDMI to HDMI.

1. Can I use HDMI and Display Port using 2 cables at the same time on the same screen and is it a advantage or disadvantage?
Please explain.

2. If I just use Display Port will it work better that just HDMI?

I don't have a Display Port to Display Port cable at this time.
I will buy one if it will make things better.

I'm not having a problem at this time. I'm just trying to get the most out of my hardware.

1 monitor 1 cable

since DP and HDMI are both digital, I guess there is no advantage either way (unlike analog vs digital).

2 outputs usually means dual monitor support, although you'd have to check the manual. Dual screens is the best upgrade I've ever made, esp for my C4D work - also good for watching TV whilst surfing !

BTW although I mainly use DVI, I had to buy a HDMI lead recently to test some gear. I was surprised to see a note in the package to the effect 'warning do not hot swap this lead - power down all equipment before connecting'. Apparently there's some kinda live detecting pin that can cause probs when hot plugging.

Just purchased a new Mobo (Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe). Haven't bought the CPU. I am waithing on the new 22nm models. After taking a close look at the display outputs on the mobo I have a choice of HDMI or Display Port. None of my existing monitors have ports for that. Soooo I guess I get a new display.

What should I be looking at as far as cables and the choice between HDMI or Display Port. I am not familiar with either one. Also I am assuming the cabling is different for the two ports.

A:Display Port or HDMI

You can find adapters to allow you to use either with DVI. If your current monitor needs replacing anyway, an HDMI-native model will be cheaper than the DP version.

It can get more complicated if you have plans for multiple monitors down the road.

Afraid adapters aren't going to work.
SVGA outputs an analog signal.
HDMI is digital.
You would need a signal converter and those aren't very cheap.

Hi,I have a ZBook 17 G2 and  its plugged into a docking station. Its been fantastic, however, seems wth the last update it installed on 9/25 (Intell Wireless LAN) my mini-display port no longer functions when plugged into the station. I've a dual monitors plugged into the dvi output on the dock, and I had a mini-display port plugged into a large external LCD (to show clients projects up on a big screen). I had been working totally fine- being able to see an extended desktop on both the two regular monitors )plugged into dvi output on the dock) and the larger one plugged into the mini-display. If i remove the laptop from the dock, the mini-display port functions again, so I know its nothing wrong with either the external display, the cables or the the mini-display->HDMI adapter. Any idea how i can roll back that update? My ThinkPad laptop computer does not have an HDMI port, so in order to connect my computer to my HDTV I use an adapter plug which accepts an HDMI cable male plug (from my TV) and then plugs into my a/v display port. I've gone thru a few of these adapters because for some reason they tend to develop connection problems, like loss of the audio portion, or whatever. The current plug is shorter than my previous ones and less likely to get bent, but all of a sudden I've lost the audio transfer again and when I went to unplug and replug the adapter to make sure the connection was secure I found it was very hot. I don't recall it ever being that hot before....some heat, yes, but this was very hot. Not a good sigh....eh?

When this same audio loss has occurred in the past, unplugging and replugging the adapter has worked, turning the TV off and back on again has solved the problem on some occasions, other times it took restarting the computer. And then on some occasions the loss of TV audio was due to my receiver input setting getting accidently altered (I run my TV audio thru my receiver and into a Dolby surround sound speaker system). None of these remedies have worked this time however.

In this case I'm more concerned about the overheating issue than my loss of audio transfer. Can anyone with good technical knowledge comment on this high heat matter....should I trash this plug immediately?....can damage be done here with an overheating plug, or is some heat to... Read more

I just purchased an adapter plug that allows me to connect my Lenovo/IBM thinkpad (T420) to my HDTV by plugging the HDMI cord into my TV and the other end to this adapter plug which converts the HDMI cable into a male plug which fits into my display port (there is no HDMI port on this model computer). It worked, but now I can't remove the adapter plug...it's stuck in the laptop display port. I do not know if the problem is caused by the male adapter plug or the female jack in the computer, but they're locked together now.

I have previously read review comments (on these HDMI/display port adapter plugs) mentioning this jamming happening on more than a couple occasions, but I don't recall any resolutions being mentioned except to break off (and destroy) the plug and possibly damage the display port as well. I called Lenovo tech support but they said I'd have to mail the computer to them to get it fixed. I'd prefer avoiding that if possible even though my warranty is still in effect and it would be of no cost to me.....just time lost without a computer.

I'd greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who may be aware of how to resolve this problem (and also how to avoid it happening again) without doing damage to either the plug or especially the computer display port.

Thanks for your consideration in any case....

I have 3 monitors connected to an AMD HD5770 graphics card. Two monitors connect via HDMI, and the third through a Sapphire Active DisplayPort->DVI adaptor. Things have been working fine for years, but recently I started sleeping my computer when I am not using it during the day, as opposed to my previous habit of leaving it on all day and then shutting down at night, and a couple of days after starting this new habit, I received a 'Display Port Link Failure' message:

"The system has detected a link failure and cannot set the requested resolution and refresh rate on your DisplayPort display. Your display might not support the requested resolution or there may be an issue with the cable connecting the display to your computer"

Now, even upon resuming my normal habit of leaving the computer on and shutting down, the monitor will work sometimes but randomly stop other times.

How can I either fix the issues with sleep, which I would prefer since I want to save energy (a money issue rather than believing my actions make any difference to the environment), or if there is a problem somewhere, determine if it is the graphics card or the adaptor that needs replacing.?

A:Display Port Link Failure, Active Display Port->DVI

It could be the hardware is starting to give out. Not all problems are software related. Going to be hard to nail down if you don't have another cable. Could be the cable or the port.

Any way to test with a straight cable, not the adapter cable?

Hi,
I searched the forums and the only posts involved the AMD card and I have an Nvidia card.  I couldn't find any information on the K4000M so I called tech support and they told me it was 2560x1600.  But then I found another forum where they said even the K1000M can do 4k.
I hooked up my 4k TV to the HDMI and used the Nvidia custom resolution to set up 3840x2160 at 30 hz and the display works.  The graphics look great, but the text is super fuzzy.  The TV supports 4K at 60Hz, but I'm not sure if the HDMI port on the back of my M6700 supports 60Hz.
Does the HDMI support 60Hz at 4k?  What about the display port?  Any idea why my text is super fuzzy while the graphics are razor sharp?
Thanks,
Ali

A:Precision M6700 Nvidia Quadro K4000M max resolution 4K monitor display port hdmi refresh rate

Hi,
First, I'm going to refer you to this article from Nvidia discussing Ultra 4k Resolution.  The important statement is this:

The current HDMI 1.4 standard only has bandwidth for 4K at 30hz. HDMI 2.0 will add support for 4K at 60Hz. Details should become clearer in late 2013. There are a few TVs on sale today that support 4K @ 30Hz through HDMI.

Now, according to this review and article about the K4000m card specifications, it states that the card has HDMI 1.4 connections, which means it won't, theoretically, handle Ultra 4k resolution at the 60Hz bandwidth.
I also found this on documentation online about the Precision 6700.

The Precision™ M4700 & M6700 incorporates HDMI version 1.4. Features

So, unfortunately, it doesn't sound like that card will support the higher refresh rate needed.
As for Display port

DisplayPort cables are much simpler to define: There’s just one type! The current version, DisplayPort 1.2, delivers enough bandwidth to carry video resolutions of up to 3840 by 2160 pixels at a refresh rate of 60Hz

So Display Port would be a much better option for you, if available.
I hope this answers your questions.
Todd

Hi,

I am trying to show my Toshiba Satellite T130 display on my Toshiba 32" LCD TV, model 32BV702B, using an HDMI cable. The laptop recognises the TV and when using duplicate or extended desktop, the builtin laptop display behaves as expected. However, the TV shows "No Signal" when the HDMI input is selected.

We have another laptop with an HDMI output and this setup works fine. On both laptops we use a 1366x768 display.

Does anyone know how I can get this working on the Toshiba laptop?

Thanks.
Ellie.

(P.S. It appears that someone else had a similar problem: [http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=205123] . The solution in that case was to use a VGA cable instead of HDMI and the original problem wasn't solved. I'd really like to use my HDMI cable!

A:Satellite T130 - HDMI Display not working

Well, the other option is trying to recover the notebook using the HDD recovery or recovery image created with the preinstalled Toshiba recovery creator software.

I read the other thread and the other user did not try this?
At the other hand you could try to set the BIOS to default and save the changes. Be sure that HDMI is enabled there.

Also try this:
Disconnect AC adaptor and battery
Wait some hours (3-4 hours) and then press power button for 30 sec.
Then connect both parts and test the notebook?s HDMI.

Hi

I have a webpage that displays well in all browsers and computers that I tested, except in my daughter's. It is an HP Mini running on Windows7.

I cannot see how it can be due to incorrect coding as it works well on other systems. I thought that it might be due to malware but after many scans including help from TechSupport, it does not look like that could be the cause of the problem.

That leaves me with the possibility that this is related to some problem in the actual computer, but am at aloss as to what could be.

The computer renders the page incorrectly in the two browsers that are installed: IE11 and Chrome.

The page is pintotours.net and the problems are the social media buttons that should be at the bottom of the sidebar, but somehow are at the top. And the bottom of the list in the sidebar which is made up of two identical divs but has the font size larger,

Any help much appreciated.

My HP Mini 311-100NR running Windows 8 release preview build 8400 is having display issues. When I switch programs or screens the display will Flicker for a couple seconds and sometimes goes black. (usually when in browser)

I tried downloading the win 8 driver installer for the NVIDIA ION LE from Nvidia site. No luck installing, says can/t find hardware. Device Manager says I have a NVIDIA ION LE.

Not sure what to do next ???
I am running Win 8 32 Bit.
Hardware ID of the ION LE:
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_087F&SUBSYS_3651103C&REV_B1
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_087F&SUBSYS_3651103C
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_087F&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_087F&CC_0300

So far nothing works, I tried the update procedure you suggested, message says I am using most current version of driver.
The NVIDIA win8 driver is one you have to run an installer for. I tried to find the file you suggested but nothing like it found.
I wish you could get on Team Viewer and look at the mini 311. I got some improvement by disabling the internet connection but not
much. I think there is a memory conflict somewhere. I can't even get on internet with an USB Adapter, the screen flickers so fast
you can't point or type. Also when I try to do a software shutdown the screen flashes and sort of says there is a memory error and can't terminate a program. Maybe I should go back to win 7, I am trying to learn Visual Studio 2012 and you have to have win 8 to use.

A:Having trouble with display on my hp mini

Firstly, you could try posting the Hardware IDs for your current card.

Open Device Manager, select Display Adapters and list the name(s) of the card(s) there.

Next, double-click the ION LE (and any other) card, select the Details tab and then the Hardware Ids drop-down. Using CTRL+A and CTRL+C, copy and then paste (CTRL+V) the Hardware IDs shown there into a new message.

It is possible that the NVIDIA driver does not support the HP ION LE and/or that the driver requires additional components not included with the stock NVIDIA driver.

Also, is this running Windows 8 Release Preview 32-bit or 64-bit?

HELP!!!!

I recently purchased a Dell n5010 and i cant seem to connect it onto my 40" Bravia HD LCD.

i'm trying to connect it via HDMI.. but somehow the laptop doesn't seem to display on my Bravia.. At first i thought it was the cable issue, but the HDMI cable works perfectly fine on the DVD player. Ive tried all short cut keys but it wouldn't help ?

I am using Windows 7 (64Bit)

Could someone guide me in solving this issue..
Would appreciate the help ..

A:No display via HDMI

Hi, welcome to the forums

Does your Bravia have more than 1 HDMI port? If so you may need to enable HDMI for all ports (I know I have to with my Pioneer).

When you say "Shotrcut keys" I take it your talking about the function (FN) key and F-Key combinations?

I'm trying to set up a clone display on my TV to play SNES games using the emulator on my PC.

I got everything working with an HDMI cable, but there is a slight display lag on the television
significant enough to make the games unplayable.

I'm having to use a very long HDMI cable for this because the computer and television

A:Second display lag via HDMI

Quality and length of cable can affect the display. You also need to be aware that there are different cable types (thus different ratings).

My mini HDMI output has stopped working. No video no sound on the external screen. I've updated everything- Windows, Intel Graphics drivers, all the critical updates on the Lenovo companion app but still no luck. The computer doesn't even seem to recognise that the output is connected (the little sound that plays when the cable is plugged in doesn't play). I have tested the cable and monitor on another lenovo device and all works fine.  Frustratingly the output seems to work when connected via the Thinkpad Dock.  Also of note: the advanced display settings no longer takes me to the desktop verison of the application. Even if I go through the control panel, but takes me to the basic windows 10 interface, Anybody have any ideas- I really need to be able to project from my computer

Problem #1

I got a Sharp TV, 32" LC32GP3U-B (1080p full). I connected an hdmi cable from my laptop (also 1080p full via 8400M GT) to the TV. My laptop screen dropped to Vista Basic theme in 16bit color mode and I can bring it back up to 32bit. Why is that?

Yesterday when I plugged the hdmi it at least worked crisp clear on the Sharp (aside laptop dropping to 16 bit). Now the Sharp TV is *appears* to be stuck in 16 bit color even though it says 32 bit in display settings. I have no idea why it suddenly stopped working, I did not change anything at all. I tested Blu-Ray and *I think* it shows proper quality on the Blu-Ray movie. However, in general when viewing desktop the quality is jagged / distorted somewhat which is why I say it appears in 16bit. I don't understand why this is happening. I'm telling you it worked crystal clear a few days ago, did not change anything. This is even more strange.

Can someone please help me out here? I even tried various other Nvidia drivers with no available. I switched hdmi cable ends from laptop > TV and vice versa. I tried various hdmi inputs on the TV but the issue is clearly within Vista itself or the driver, if not the card itself.

Hello, I have HP dv6-1350us laptop with Win7. My HDMI to TV display was working absolutely fine earlier. I have freshly installed Win7 again as HDMI stopped giving display when my laptop upgraded to Win10. Though it ran for some time well, however it stopped after some days. I thought problem is in Win10 (i didnt like it much) so I uninstalled it and freshly installed Win7. Well the problem didnt resolve and I couldnt get display on TV using HDMI... I have tried all means like:-- uninstalled and updated display adaptor driver from hp site. my current driver is Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset family- changing hdmi cables- i plugged in my friends laptop using the same hdmi cable on my TV and display worked fine so definitely there is no issue with TV- when i connect HDMI cable, the graphic properties reflects TV properties like in case of Dual Clone display. Not sure if this indicates if HDMI port on PC is fine- Some wierd thing happened like if I change the resolution to 800 x 600 display comes but intermittent and hazily. Otherwise on all other resolution is its No signal or just some flashes within minutes.- I feel the issue is either with display driver or HDMI port. Not sure how to crack on and resolvePlease advice. Many thanks in advance,Vishal

You should be able to use it as a primary monitor (and I bet it looks fantastic too). The sound I am not sure about...if you want to test yourself than that might be the best. No new driver should be needed unless your driver you installed turns out to be faulty...

Just wondering if anyone else has this type of construct working and how to get the TV to show something. Passive adapters do not get a signal to the TV or even the monitor in situ if I switch input port

The pc will output to vga/dvi fine. It will not output to HDMI at all. I have tried 4 cables, 2 TV's 2 monitors. It just won't.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling NVIDIA drivers for the graphics card.
I booted into ubuntu live cd with dvi, it worked, switched from dvi to HDMI, and HDMI no display.

I removed the graphics card from that PC and put it into my own PC which usually runs a gtx 760 so it has up-to-date NVIDIA drivers. Boots up fine with dvi, switch to HDMI...nothing.

This PC is usually hooked up to a TV using HDMI, it was worked yesterday. I have no idea what's wrong with it and I'm incredibly stressed. Can anyone please help? The only way this lady can use this is via HDMI because it's hooked up to some intermediary transceiver for her tv/audio system.

The only thing I can possibly think of is buying a DVI to HDMI cable/adapter and she uses the DVI side on the PC and the HDMI side into her transceiver (she uses an aux cord into the transceiver for audio regardless so HDMI audio isn't needed).

I think the HDMI port is broken but I just can't believe it's gone overnight. Any thoughts/input, anyone?

A:HDMI won't display but vga/dvi will? so stressed!!

Did I mention when plugged in via HDMI a few times the display came on but it looked really not right it was all green and pink and didn't even look like a pc display and it would flicker and go off.

So I have my new computer hooked up to my 22'' Vizio HDTV, and every 5-10 minutes the screen starts flashing horizontal stripes of different colors, or sometimes it's kind of like a melting rainbow effect starting from the top of the screen. When I turn off the TV (which takes longer than usual) and turn it back on everything is fine for a few minutes then it starts again. I have no idea what's wrong with it, it was working fine on VGA, but VGA quality sucks. I have an nvidia geforce gt 220. I have no idea how to fix this problem. Should I switch to DVI, and would it have the same quality and fill up the whole screen like HDMI? Thanks for the help in advance.

Hello everyone!
I am not sure where else to post this so if this i the wrong area please let me know and I can put it in the correct location.

So I have an MSI laptop, I have used it for the past couple months via HDMI on either a TV in my room, or through a receiver to a TV in the living room.

The other day I had unplugged it without turning it off. (The battery is ruined on it so it needs to be plugged in to be on/doesn't hold a charge).

So the next day I go to put it on my TV, and it says that it is 'searching for signal' on the TV.
In the display options on the laptop, it does not show 2 monitors.
When I switch inputs on the TV it recognises there is in something on HDMI 1, but it just keeps saying 'searching for signals'. If I switch the cable to HDMI 2, it picks it up that something is hooked up, but I still get the same message.

I tried to screw around a little bit yesterday as well as read and try and find out the solution but I could not.

Has anyone experiences this? Do you know how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

I have 2 TVs currently serving as my screens. I've lately been helping family and friends fix small issues on their computers. I've come across a few PCs that have only a VGA Display Port, while both of my screens only have HDMI ports.
I asked someone at a local parts store, if a wire that is VGA male one side and HDMI male the other, would do the job. He told me in long detail why that would never work, that I needed a signal converter to change the display signal.
Basically he said when adapting a VGA screen to a HDMI port was possible, and the reverse (HDMI screen to VGA port in pc) is not.

My question is, if I bought the cord linked below, would I have to do anything else other than just plugging it in? Or do I indeed need this converter I was told about?

Thanks in advance

A:VGA to HDMI Display Adapter

You will need a signal converter of some type. A simple wire cable with different connectors on each end will not work. A VGA output has three analog video signals. An HDMI input expects all digital signals.

I have tried downloading updated drivers but to no avail. While connected pressing the Fn key and F4 hey does nothing, the computer has no idea that something is in that port. I think the port is somehow inactive or physically damaged.

How may i check to see if the port is working and how do i check if its software related?

Are you running more then one monitor at a time? If you are then you need to right click on your desktop and select "Screen Resolution". Then find the TV on the display device drop-down menu. Then check the box "Make this my Main Display".

Let me know if that works, if not I can help troubleshoot the problem some more.

Hi all,

I've just recently got myself a new laptop (specs at bottom of message) and took it around a friends house and plugged it into their HD TV via HDMI - all worked well, the laptop recognised the TV straight away, optimized the display and away we went.

A few days go by and I decided to upgrade my own TV from an SD to an HD TV (Bush BLED24FHDL8) yeah I know cheap as chips, but it's going alright so far ... well except this problem pmsl.

Within 5 mins of setting up the TV channels I decided to plug my HDMI cable into the laptop and then into HDMI 1 slot on the back of the TV, I changed the input of the TV to HDMI 1 and.... nothing.

Going into the display settings of my laptop didn't show a 2nd display, so I changed various settings trying to get it to recognise the tv, but nothing, still no signal showing on the TV, and nothing showing on the laptop.

So I changed over the cable to the HDMI 2 slot on the TV etc and still nothing on the laptop, I fiddled with the settings again and still couldn't get the laptop to recognise there was a 2nd display, nor get any signal on the TV.

As a last resort I unplugged the HDMI cable and tried the VGA cable I have - and this decided to work, although no sound as I didn't have those cables plugged in.

When I plugged the VGA cable in, the TV and laptop recognised each other straight away and I didn't have to do another thing.

But I've still got this HDMI problem --- I've even gone out this a... Read more

It isn't Windows that is stopping you but the laptop itself. The laptop may have two additional display ports/hookups in addition to the laptop's own screen but it doesn't mean you can use all three at once. You don't say what laptop, but you will likely find that the video card in it can only support up to two display devices at a time, with one of them being the laptop's own screen.

You want to run three displays off of a laptop, you're going to need an external video device something like this,

Hello,I've been running into a fairly consistent problem with my Lenovo Thinkpad P70. It has the Quadro M3000m, and the Xeon CPU option which includes the HD530 graphics. I usually run the graphics in Hybrid mode, since I run into driver compatibility problems running it in Discrete Only.In Hybrid mode, there's some strange behavior. When I use the external HDMI display only, Extended Display, or the internal laptop display only, everything works well. However, when I use "Duplicate Display", it does not work. The laptop display turns on, goes to a very low resolution (1280x720 I believe), and the external display turns off. When I look in the Intel GPU multi-display settings, it says that there are two displays, the laptop display and "virtual display". When I go into the nVidia multi-display GPU settings, it shows that there are three: The Samsung TV (My external display), the internal display, and 'Analog display', which it shows connected via VGA (which is wrong), and also shows a max resolution of this 'analog display' as 1280x720. In the nVidia screen, it shows that while activating the 'duplicate display' mode, the computer tries to connect to both the internal display and this 'analog display' (which is not correct at all), but if I manually disable the analog display, enable the Samsung TV, and then right-click the Samsung TV and click "Duplicate from Display 1", the duplicate display feature works, and the "analog display" disappears from the list. Hi guys!

I've faced with a problem of black laptop's display after unplugging my TV (connected via HDMI). I suspect this happens because after connecting my laptop to TV the TV's display becomes a primary one and laptop's display as a secondary one. Then after disconnecting both devices Windows don't merely sets laptop's display as a primary.

Reboot does not always solve the problem but sometimes.

Connecting an external monitor to laptop always solves the problem ~ one external monitor is connected laptop's display is turning on. Then I'm rebooting the PC with external monitor unplugging during RAM calculation...

I've tried to roll back drivers for video card, tried newest drivers, but this didn't help.

Any advice is much appreciated.

A:Black display after HDMI is unplugged

It sounds like your computer doesn't realize that your television is being disconnected. I think most monitors send a continuous signal and once it breaks the computer knows it's been disconnected.

Instead of just unplugging the television, try switching your main display (laptop) to the primary and only display whenever you want to switch. That way, when you disconnect it from the television its not even sending a signal.

I just received my package of VGA to HDMI cable but it does not seem to work with my laptop which has a VGA port and LCD TV which has the HDMI port. I am not able to export my display of my Laptop to the TV. A 'No Signal' box moves around on the screen of the TV.

Laptop Details - Toshiba Tecra A11
Core i5 - Intel integrated graphics HD

LCD TV - Dynex 32" LCD HDTV

Any idea on getting the Laptop VGA display exported to the HDMI TV?

is this just a cable - if so then it will not work
you need a converter to turn the analogue VGA signal into a Digital HDMI signal
where did you purchase the cable

Hi,
I just did a fresh install of Win 8.1 last week and my TV which is connected via HDMI is not getting detected as a display on my PC. My monitor was detected fine.

When i right click my desktop and go to screen resolution, the TV doesnt show up there even post clicking detect. Same if i go into AMD CCC and click on detect.

However Win 8.1 can detect it. The TV is seen in device manager under digital media device and i can see the TV under Devices and Printers in Control Panel. I've tried troubleshooting it but it says everything is fine.
But I need it to come up as a display so i can use it as a primary display at times or to duplicate display.

I had no such problems with Win 7. It would detect right off the bat.

Things ive tried:-
I've installed the Omega 14.12 drivers and the Beta 15.4 drivers.
I've tried installing them in Win 7 compatibility mode too, but the installer then wouldnt give me the option to install the display driver and the HDMI audio driver.

One thing i notice is that the driver for the TV is provided by Microsoft and the date of the driver is 6/21/2006! So maybe this needs to be updated. I tried to click on update driver but it says my driver is up to date.

I also have all the latest windows updates installed.

so not sure what else to do here.

Please help.

A:Win 8.1 - TV connected via HDMI not detected as a Display

The 2006 device driver is simply the generic one which is normal, same one I get when TV is plugged in.
What HDMI port are you using? One on motherboard or one coming directly from GPU? This almost has to be a graphics driver problem.
Why would you try installing drivers in 7 compatibility mode? We are talking 8.1 here right? Have you tried drivers from manufacturers site?
A laptop or desktop? Motherboard and GPU make/model?
So, so many details you've left out.
Would help to have some system specs.

Hello, I have my w2207h hooked up to the HDMI port of my Radeon HD 6850 on my new system. It has the latest drivers installed for both the GPU & Monitor. Before installing my new Premium 24AWG CL2 Rated High Speed HDMI cable I was using the supplied VGA cable along with a DVI adapter since DVI & HDMI is the only ports my card allows. Regardless of which setup I used, images look pretty bad as in pixelated and lacking sharpness and clarity. The same images on my Vostro 1510 look great! I have no idea why it's doing this and I was hoping the HDMI cable would resolve the issue. Using the VGA w DVI adapter & using the HDMI cable produced nearly the same desktop quality which is great but both have trouble displaying photos. Images in Chrome and Firefox still look great so maybe it is localized to Windows Photo Viewer? On my laptop the same images look fine in WPV.

That is my biggest problem at the moment. I have it setup for 1080p but oddly enough this monitor is supposed to only support up to 720p yet the resolution is pretty low for my 22" monitor when I use it and I am unable to adjust that resolution after (that might be a no brainer). On 1080p it is great except that the entire screen size is about half an inch off of the main bezel all around. I tried to adjust the image size within the monitor settings to no avail.

So to sum it up:

Pictures look really bad compared to the basic onboard GPU of my laptop and I am unable to fill my monitor with the 10... Read more

Hi,
My HP Pavilion DV7-1285dx Entertainment Notebook PC running Vista x86 stopped displaying thru my HDMI connection on my TV. I go to Windows Mobility Center and the display just isn't found. I've tried to reload my video driver from HP and I'm getting an error "You are running a 32 bit version ofNvidia uninstaller on a 64 bit system. Wrong version of uninstaller.."

I also rolled back to a month ago because it seemed to begin after a bunch of Windows Updates happened. Now, I'm afraid to load those. Could that have caused the problem? Should I let those updates happen?

I've been battling with this for a week and getting really frustrated... please help!

It's my birthday today!!

Thanks,
baseltoff

PS I also have this mute flat button on the top of my laptop. You're supposed to be able to touch it to mute your PC and it'll turn red. Unmuted, it's blue. My button displays red all the time. Anyone know what that could be caused by?

The HDMI IN on my 34-a001a all in one stretches all inputs to full screen. A normal 16:9 picture is stretched to fit instead of using black bands on either side & maintaining the correct ratio. I can find no settings to adjust this.Any ideas?

Hello HP community, I have a HP 15 TS Notebook PC and the HDMI port is not working. Yesterday (9/17/2016) it was working just fine. I had my laptop connected to my TV via HDMI and it working. Today my computer did an update and after the update my computer did not read the HDMI cable. I am not even sure what the update was for, but I turned it off this morning and it updated and then updated again when I turned it back on later today. After the update the computer does not read the HDMI cable. Everything else works fine. What should I do? Thanks!

I recently bought an HP Envy m7, and I setup an external monitor. I recently had a BIOS update, which I think broke the HDMI port. I connected the port to a projecter, and it still does not get any input through the HDMI. I've tried multiple cables, and none of them work. My monitor I'm using is an LG IPS Flatron monitor. When I plug in the HDMI, it tells me it's not receiving anything to diplay. I've used Windows Key + P to switch it to extend mode, but it doesn't work.

Will not display on any monitor. Tried multiple different monitors. Updated all the drivers, from Intel, NVIDIA, and HP. Nothing works. Funny thing is that NVIDIA recognizes the monitor, name, make, and resolution. But no where can I find NIVIDIA recognizing the built in display on this computer. Intel recognizes the built in monitor, but doesnt see the external monitor. In the NIVIDIA contorl panel under system topology it details the HDMI port, its connected. So I got my IT people involved. They couldnt figure it out either. They tried everything. They believe that since NVIDIA sees the external monitor, but "Multiple Display Cloning" is "Disabled" (Unable to enable it) that NVIDIA doesnt recognize the built in display, it thinks the built in display is the monitor. When the external monitor HDMI is unplugged, the NVIDIA control panel clears out as if no monitor exists at all. This is a brand new HP zBook that I have had for a couple months. Been fighting this issue ever since. Desperate to get my monitor working I recently went and purchased a VGA to DVI converter and DVI to HDMI converter. That doesnt work either. I feel defeated, crushed by an HDMI port.
