How do I turn off banner notifications for wifi networks? [Lumia 650]

Q: How do I turn off banner notifications for wifi networks? [Lumia 650]

Seems to be no option to turn off banner notifications every time the Lumia 650 finds an available network.
Also why does it connect automatically so randomly whole other times it does not?

I still want to have the notification, but not the sound. Don't want to put my phone on silent though as I want to be able to hear it when someone calls.

A few apps, chiefly textnow and kik, suddenly stopped sending me push notifications, it does not appear on the tile and doesn't inform me until I've opened the app.
I uninstalled and reinstalled them both twice, neither reappeared in the Notifications + Actions section in Settings with messages being sent to them.
I soft resetted, 3 times then did a factory reset twice, first with back-up, the second time with clean slate. Reinstalling twice, with each soft and factory reset...
-nothing is restricted in data sense
-I'd never looked in the battery saving option before, but it does not have the run in background slider that facebook does.
I've ran these apps for over a year now and have had no issue with either until today.
As I am writing this, neither text now nor facebook messenger will load now!
Please help!!

I have Toshiba laptop and Win 7. It is brand new laptop and original windows. I tried to install AWUS036H and it was successful but unfortunately adapter doesn't detect any networks. It happened with my old laptop with Win 7(Acer) and I had to reinstall windows fresh and it worked. But I wouldn't like to do it again here. As you may see on picture internal adapter has X in corner and it is working but RTL8187 doesn't, it just says Enabled and nothing happens. No networks detecting. In device manager everything is fine, no yellow icons. Also it is not detected by my ipconfig/all command. The same thing happens in safe mode

Adapter is not broken, it is working on linux. This is image from win 8.1 but it happens on my Win 7

A:WiFi adapter finds no wireless networks. ends up with No networks

What driver is currently installed?

Try this

Download the latest ar956x driver from here:
https://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wirel...et=83&system=5

Version: 10.0.0.297
Release: 2014-07-22 [July '14]
OS: Windows 7 32/64bit
Status: WHQL
File: win7-10.0.0.297-whql.zip (2585 KB)

Unzip the package and note the location
Uninstall the driver from the device in Dev mgr, remove software if presented (checkbox or prompt)
then update the driver from within Dev mgr using the unzipped inf file

Some reports on the Qualcom board indicate that you might have success with an earlier version 10.0.0.263, but I only see 10.0.0.255 then 10.0.0.270 on the site I linked.

Try the newest first , then the 255 (270 was the one the poster on Qualcom complained about)

Maybe the Toshiba site has a version that works. My method is to install the base or original driver from the PC OEM support page and work up if the peripheral board driver doesn't help solve the issue.

Hello All:

I see how to turn off the REAL TIME PROTECTION but that is not what I want to do, I want to stop DEFENDER from throwing up the constant flow of Windows Defender Found Threats & is REMOVING THEM. I don't think I'm going to sites that would give me that much malware. I do have Malwarebytes installed along with Xionix RegServ, and Enigma Soft Spy Hunter (which I believe causes Defender to FREAK OUT with all the messages (I pay for Spy Hunter and don't want to remove it just because Defender seems to find it offensive). I want to leave REAL TIME PROTECTION INTACT but not have DEFENDER notify me every time it finds something/anything, I just want it to automatically REMOVE said item or cope with it via quarantine. HELP!

How can I turn off the Microsoft Update notifications?
I just want to receive update notifications for Winows.

It seems each time I get "you have updates to be installed," I get Microsoft notifications (Office, etc.) which I do not want. I went to Change Settings, but it doesn't have Microsoft listed turn (to turn off notifications).

Is it impossible to turn off the Microsoft update notifications in Win 7 (64-Bit)?

A:Turn off Microsoft Update notifications

Under Windows Update you will see Change Settings. On that page you can uncheck the box for Microsoft products Update.

This problem is driving me crazy for few years to the extend that I spend time registering on the forum in hope of getting clear solution. One USB device on my desktop computer running Win 7 professional does not work. Maintenance service told me that they cannot repair dysfunctional USB because it is build into the case (chassis). But one dysfunctional USB is not a problem at all, because I have 7 other USB slots operating normally. Anyway, now I am getting non-stop notifications of this non-problem!!! Why? The frequency is sometimes very high and always extremely annoying: it varies greatly, it can be between 5-10 per minute. Aural notifications have this annoying sound and visual notifications are popping up in a sizable cloud in bottom right corner of a screen and are lingering there for far too long, and when I click to close it, it pops back immediately. This is a spoiler (I could tolerate one or two dysfunctional notification a day). It is bothering me visually and aurally, greatly diminishing my user experience, disturbing my work, my listening to the music and watching the pictures or movies. After much tinkering I succeeded to turn off sound notification (via Sounds customization), but I cannot turn off visual notifications. I cannot customize Notification area icons - when I try to "Hide icons and notifications" in category Windows explorer where there is this unwanted visual message USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED and click OK, it does not work, because it po... A:how to turn off visual and sound notifications

Right click on Computer, select properties. On the lower left click Action Center. Expand Maintenance. Deselect Check solutions for problem reports and Troubleshooting system maintenance.

See if that helps? Personally, I'd get that fixed. If it's built into the case it can be replaced, but it's built into the motherboard, you're stuck with it.

I had my lumia 925 from UAE, and it was working fine for two years. I went to Poland and I charged my phone on Polish plug charger. First it worked normally but on the second day it was lagging when I was using it, and I soft reset it for couple times. But it was still lagging until it turned off. and a black screen appeared with some text. I dont remember exactly the content of the text, but it was something about booting. And now when I plug it on usb charger, the windows icon blinks for sec and then it turns off. And the phone doesnt start.
ANY IDEA HOW TO FIX THIS.

Hi.
My Nokia Lumia 625's battery drained the other day during afternoon. I put it on charge at night but the phone didn't turn on. The phone vibrates, the nokia logo appears and then it disappears (as if the phone has shut down) and the whole process repeats. I didn't even get to the point where the empty battery sign appears. When I remove the charged and try to turn on the phone, the phone doesn't turn on as if its battery is zero.
What seems to be the issue?

Since a couple of years I'm use a permanent ping to my mobile phone as an indicator for my home automation to detect if I'm home.
On my Ativ-S phone I could prevent the power down for WiFi with the option "Keep Wi-Fi on when the screen times out".
With the Lumia 640 I had to plug the phone into the docking to keep WiFi on when I'm home.
But with the Lumia 950 I found no way to keep WiFi on. Even with external power the WiFi always switches off when the lock screen appears.
Is this a bug? Will this get fixed?
Everybody (also Microsoft) is is talking about IoT but on the other hand they make it impossible to automate the simplest things, by taking away the possibility to configure the devies as we need them.
Has anybody a solution for this phone to keep WiFi on without using dummy song playing "Keep Alive"?
Thanks a lot.

The problem with my Lumia 1520 is that for some reason it won't connect to the private network in the hostel where I currently am. Previously every month in order to use the WiFi, you were given a new username and password, and then the Salvation Army menu would appear in IE, and fill out the details there and there was no problem.

Every time I try to connect in WiFi it would automatically take me to the menu in IE mentioned previously. Now it goes to secure password page and enter the password without the username and keeps saying renter password without even to try the password. I have connected to other free WiFi hot spots with no problem, it just appears to be the Salvation Army one, and yes I have asked other residents with Lumia phones and other manufacturers and have not come across this problem.

I also tried, using a random password but only 8 characters long and it looks as if it is trying to use it, nut then reverts back to the re-enter password. Unfortunately, I have also tried the Hard Reset with no joy, and used several usernames and passwords given to me all resulting in the same problem.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Ad-Hoc requires that you restart the session each time.

Connectify pro has an auto start option that does this but it's a paid version, connectify lite is free but I'm not sure if has auto start.

A:Why cant my Lumia 535 connect to wifi router?

Try resetting the router. Try forgetting the router on your phone and trying to reconnect also you devices are ALL trying to connect at the same time so its basically breaking your router. Try connecting 1 device at a time and working your way up.

A:lumia 800 wont charge or turn on, just vibrates every 20 seconds.

When was the last time you charged it?
If the battery was severely depleted it can take a good 2-3 hours of the vibrating before it actually starts up. Just leave plugged in using a wall adapter (not computer)

Hello,
I have been running Windows 10 Mobile on the latest Production Release, non-Insider, and my Mobile Hotspot won't work over WiFi. I can still use it over Bluetooth but it is slow compared to WiFi.
I am using AT&T with 5 GB of data with my Lumia 950 XL. I was able to use the Mobile Hotspot with my Lumia 1520 and 830 without any problems.
I did try changing the APN as recommended by a user here who spoke with AT&T customer service but that didn't work at all.
I appreciate the help and input.
Thank you.

A:Lumia 950 XL - Mobile Hotspot not transmitting via WiFi

I'm on AT&T with a 950 XL so I can say it does work. I did have some issues with some Production Release versions. I think it was because of the options to enable the PC to enable the hotspot. Turn that off and it should work.

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum or not, but two days in a row, now, I've had connection issues with my wireless dongle.  I reinstalled the software yesterday and it worked, but I decided to get a backup dongle with the same software, just in case it was a hardware issue.  This morning I get up to the "limited connectivity" problem and did various uninstalls and reinstalls to try and get on my network with a reasonable signal.  I kept getting messages that there may be a problem with the driver, or with the device itself, so I tried both dongles, reinstalled the software, several times.  But, at one point, I checked the list of local networks and there were two with very strong signals I'd never seen before.  One was called FEE2 and the other was called (I think) F2E2.  Both had strong signals as though they were coming from inside my house (I have an N router).  Finally, on the last reinstall, I was able to get back on my own network, and those other two networks had disappeared from the list.  Now the only networks on my list are all the usual neighbors with weak signals and only mine with the strong signal.  Does anybody know what those other networks might be?  Was it a possible "drive by network?"  It just seemed weird that they appeared while I was having trouble, and disappeared once the trouble miraculously seemed to fix itself.

A:Odd wifi networks

It could be that those 2 Wifi networks you noticed operated on the same channel as your network, and were so powerful that they interfered with your network signals.

I've been using my HP Pavilion DV6-2113SA for a long time, connecting with a LAN cable. I now need to use wireless but the HP doesn't see any wifi networks at all, let alone the one from my Brightbox router. I have wifi turned on and rebooted but Brightbox is only shown when cabled. there is nothing shown except my T-Mobile dongle (disconnected).

I went into the router and SSID is enabled. The problem must be that NO networks are being shown at all. I know there about a dozen in this area as I can see them on my Asus Transformer and my wife also sees them in her netbook. I have tried updating drivers for wifi but it seems I already have the latest.

Any help would be great please!

Qualcomm Atheros AR928S 802.11b/g/n. Tried uninstalling and letting Win 7 reconfigure. Still cannot see any wifi networds, yest on 3 other systems in the house about 10 networks are visible, so I guess the router is OK?

A:Cannot see any wifi networks

Is the wifi adapter enabled?

There is often a physical switch for this, if not find it in the device manager, view its properties and and ensure "Use this device" is selected.

Failing that, remove the HP wireless software and in services.msc make sure wireless Zero Config is enabled and started (automatic) then let windows manage your wireless connection, sometimes if you have multiple wifi managers they conflict and you cant get anywhere with either of them.

Right now my whole apt complex is in a WEP protected wireless network that is connected to the internet. For some reason I can't get the 3 computers in my apt to file
share on the network (2pcs and 2 macs) (The guy who runs our network seems a little flaky so I'm a little hesisitant to ask him. Granted I don't know a lot
about networking myself).

I got a wireless router from netgear. What I would like to do is:
a) connect the computers in my apt (2 pcs and 2 macs) to each other and a network printer via the router w/o connecting to the net to create my own wireless network separate from the apt complexs network.

b) allow all the computers to connect to both my network and the apt complex's network at the same time (so I can print off the internet).

Is this possible? To do part b would I need to create a network bridge?

Also, is there a good online resource that's explains a lot of this stuff in a "netowrking for dummies" fashion?

A:2 wifi networks at once?

"... I can't get the 3 computers in my apt to file
share on the network (2pcs and 2 macs) ..."

It might just be a simple math problem.

To do your part b would require using two wireless adaptors in each computer. While I think part b can be done, it is quite an ambitious goal for someone who also asks for "netowrking for dummies"!

Your best solution would be to get a wireless bridge, which would allow you to connect your router to the apartment's wireless network. That allows the router to work the same as if your internet were cable or DSL. You would want an 802.11g of course, but here is an example of a 802.11b bridge: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...Sku=D700-2152&SRCCODE=WEBGOOAUT&CMP=KNC-GOOGL

Unless your apt. complex is using some kind of VPN to isolate each computer, the second best choice, my opinion, is to just get sharing working now. Note, though, that such sharing would extend to everybody else on the network unless you have a 3rd party firewall to limit access to only your other computers.

I also am having a problem with my Win7 laptop seeing wifi networks. It was working fine about a week ago but for the last few days it can't or won't discover ANY wifi networks and there are a dozen or so in the neighborhood that I can see on my desktop and Win8.1 laptop.. I tried "Connect to a Network" and it won't respond. I then go back to where it says Unkown and under More information, it then says that Network List Service List needs to be turned on. When I click to turn it on, I get a message asking if I want to let Network and Sharing Center make a change to my computer. When I click yes, I get an error message that "The dependency service or group failed to start."

Has this laptop been corrupted by a virus or other malware? Or is this a hardware failure?

A:can't or won't discover ANY wifi networks

In Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services double click on that service to see its Properties. Look at the dependencies (Network Location Awareness and Remote Procedure Call (RPC) on this 8.1 system) and determine which of those will not start. See if you can determine a root cause of the problem.

Hey,

Windows 8.1, Broadcom 802.11n network card&driver,

My computer stopped recognizing the wireless networks at my university - oddly enough, some other networks elsewhere can be found (although I cannot test if I can actually connect to them, since they are passworded/not mine).

I followed the 3 steps of Network Posting Tips

Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector showed nothing: Connection - Broadcom 802.11n network card - NA, everything under Wireless and Addresses also NA. No networks.

Any bright ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

EDIT: forgot to add that my home adsl modem works.

A:W8.1 some wifi networks not recognized

Have you tried working with your campus IT group? I would go to them. That is what they are there for. Schools have been known to block users computers, if they are infected, use up a lot of bandwidth (ie Torrents/P2P), or if you have to have the IT group set your unit up on the network, so they can track who is on the network, that is a student.

Ok so here's the thing. Installed W8 pro with media centre (x86). Everything worked fine, connected to internet wirelessly no problem. Then after a couple of days I get no networks found out of the blue for no apparent reason.

Here are the facts:

Router/internet connection is fine, other devices in my house still connect fine.
Network card fine. Have the most up to date drivers, device working properly etc etc.
If I connect pc to router with ethernet cable I can get on internet fine.
If I do a troubleshoot it just tells me to investigate router or access point issues (turn router off for 10 seconds etc). Like I said, router is fine; NO networks are found, neighbour's one usually comes up but not any more.

Any help appreciated!

A:Wifi - No networks found

Maybe your neighbor quit broadcasting SSID. Go to Starbucks and check their wireless out, assuming your router isn't wireless. Is your router wireless? Are there any wireless computers at your place connecting wirelessly via your router? Could a mechanical wifi switch on your computer have been accidentally turned off.

Why would you want to use both?
Your LAN connect will be faster then Wireless, so your doing nothing but making your machine work harder for the same information. Since the LAN has to slow down to the wireless speed to check the downloads completed amount before it continues with the next part.

Hello all you W7 users.

I have had a perfectly harmonious dual boot system (Ubuntu 10.04 and W7) for a few months now .... until about 4 or 5 days ago, which is about how long I've been trying to fix this problem.

My laptop has an Atheros AR9285 wifi card in it (which generally seems to be considered a pile of rubbish) which stopped working after I tried to update its driver. However the card still functions well when I boot into Linux, so the card is obviously good. In W7 (an upgrade from the "Pro" edition to the "Ultimate" edition, because of wanting to change system languages when necessary) I can no longer see any wifi networks. The card "details" tell me that it is functioning correctly, it is properly enabled and the driver is the same one now that it had before when everything worked OK. When I run a W7 powered "diagnostic" I'm told that there seems to be trouble with the driver.

I can normally fix this kind of thing with a certain tenacity but this has got me!! I'm tired, frustrated and very angry. I have tried just about everything that has been suggested on the many forums etc. that I have visited in an effort to solve my problem.

Can anyone help an old guy out here? Many, many thanks in advance.

All the best,

Martin

PS I forgot to add that I even went out and bought a Netgear N300 USB wifi adapter which it was impossible to install in W7, but which works perfectly in Ubuntu 10.04.

I'll link you to a bunch of tutorials, all of which may help you.
* Roll back driver (works for both vista and win7): Device Manager - Roll Back Driver - Vista Forums
* or try complete uninstallation of driver (windows should automatically install its own generic driver until you get an updated one): Uninstall Device and Device Driver - Vista Forums
-AND-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Have windows search for a drier for you: Driver Install - Device Manager
* Change auto-install settings for drivers in win7: Device Installation Settings-OR--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------OR-* you can look up the most recent driver from the manufacturer of the device to download. If that is the one that doesn't work, try a slightly older one, or go with the windows pick

Hi all,

Was not sure where the best place for this would be, sorry if it is in the wrong forum.

I have been asked today by a colleague what the law states about accessing somebody's open wifi network. so there is no hacking or packet sniffing involved just clicking connect and using the internet. I was not sure on the answer so though i would ask the people who i thought would be able to point me in the right direction.

Does any body know what the UK law says on this? I was in 2 minds as to weather it was legal or not because.

You are not hacking or breaking in as such, it has been left open but on the other hand its not yours to access and so do you have any rights to connect to the network. I know that some places offer free wifi now but what about houses that have wifi and have not secured it?

Hi Abhimahatu, welcome to the Seven Forums.

   Note
My response below is not meant to accuse the OP of anything. Instead, it is solely based on how I interpret the OP's post.
Reading between the lines, it seems that you are "borrowing" other people's WiFi without their knowledge. If that is the case, we cannot help you due the forum rules. We will not, we are not allowed to assist in breaking to other user's networks and computers.

The fact that your Ubuntu and mobile can see the networks makes it obvious that those WiFi networks are not set to be invisible. Reseting router or changing its frequency could solve the issue but for that you'd need access the router in question which I think is not possible for you.

So one day I reset my phone due to my phone slowing down, and it would not turn on.
For info purposes I have a Lumia 640 updated to win 10 (originally 8.1)
After this I put it on the charger, it would load the Microsoft logo. then go to the charging screen with plug icon.
This is odd due to being at 80℅ of battery before I rebooted. Often it'll sit there with no result, sometimes it'll reboot multiple times.
If I remove the charger the phone instantly turns off. This has been going on for 5 days. Yesterday when I plugged the phone in it went back to tiles, but when I removed the battery to put my sim back in the issue came back. It also showed 72℅ charged so can't be the battery, and I don't know how that happened.
Windows recovery tool can't see the device and when I choose the find option the fix won't get to the phone. When I plug my Lumia via USB it reboots over and over and disconnects over and over as my computer keeps making the USB sound. The only time this doesn't happen is if i hold volume up or down when I plug it, sometimes, and that just freezes it on the ms logo. When I continue from there the phone will reboot as the installation is loading.
The issue is clearly not the battery. As it's 70℅ or so, yet Iget the 0 charge icon and the phone won't turn on outside the charger.
I have no clue what the solution to this problem is.

Hello-

I am trying to troubleshoot a network connectivity issue for my Mom & Dad's laptop. It is an HP 64-bit running Windows 8.1. Up until this morning, it was able to connect to wi-fi. My mother was on the internet with no problems. They have my-fi with AT&T and my dad's laptop and tablet connect fine.
We have tried:
restarting the HPtaking the battery out uninstalling the wi-fi network adapter, restarting and letting it reinstallforgetting the networkmanually adding the network back in
and nothing worked.

So, I took the laptop back to my house and connected it directly into my router via Ethernet cable, but to my surprise, it showed connected, but no internet connection. I ran the troubleshooter and it said that "Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP config. I restarted the laptop with the ethernet plugged in, but it came back up with limited connectivity and the same error message. I tried connecting to my wifi at my house and again, it sees the various networks, but will not connect. I get a message when I hit the connect button that it is Checking network requirements, but then after about 30-45 seconds it says Can't connect to this network. All of the other laptops/pc's/tablets and phones are connecting just fine.

I used to work on a help desk about 5 years ago, but the only Windows 8 experience I have is with their laptop, so I am a complete idiot when comes to Windows 8 and I'm very rusty when it comes to everything else, so please be gentle. I ... Read more

If your fathers internet is fine but the mothers is not it has to be with the adapter somehow. I have had adapters in the past that randomly start to quirk up and then randomly start working fine before it can be strange I know. How old is this adapter anyway? Most adapters ( with heavy use of course ) only lasts around six months to a year, with moderate use they generally do good for about up to about five years.

A:Wifi seems to work, but I dont have any available networks

Hard to say but i assume the first explanation mark you saw meant the adapter was deactivated. I further assume there is a simple explanatin for this:

Maybe your wificard needs to be activated via key combination, look for wifi symbol on your keyboard (usually F5) then press FN and this key. This only works when the driver for the special keys is installed.

or

When you install wifi drivers they often come with stupid tools that take control over your card/network environment and also often just do not work. Is there some tool/program that came with the driver? Open it and look everywhere to give the control back to Windows.

For example, when I connect to network "wifi1" I get automatically DHCP address, and when I connect to "wifi2" I get static IP which I defined before.

Hi

I am putting together an app in vb6 (not a .Net coder as yet) that needs WiFi some of the time but not often and to preserve battery I would like to tell the user if WiFi is on when it needn't be.

I found an excellent shortcut on this site that pops out the Networks fly-out pane (thanks for that!) but I would like to test if the WiFi switch is on or off.

I found some code elsewhere that uses a WMIService call to get the name of the WiFi adapter if it is connected. That works but it returns a null string if either the WiFi is off or it is On but no WiFi connection has been chosen so it doesn't give me quite what I need.

The code for getting the WiFi name is shown at the bottom of this message. I am thinking it is the wrong way to go as it relates to the adapter not the Windows switch but not sure.

I had considered using the Airplane mode on/off that I also found on this site but I am having trouble getting back to my app after it runs and I would prefer the user to control it themselves anyway (hence the flyout)

To see what changed I exported the registry on the device (HP Stream 7 running WIn 8.1) with WiFi switched on and then again having switched it off

I then compared the text files and I found a flag that sounds promising called RFOff (it is 1 when WiFi is off and 0 when on). Am guessing RF is Radio something

It is. however, deep in the CurrentControlSet001 under ....

Doesn't the Windows OS already do this from the Desktop aspect via the Notification Tray Icon on the Taskbar?

Then, it's all a matter of presenting that information discreetly in the Modern aspect. BTW, I've stayed away from the Modern aspect. Still, I don't think the presentation can be done, in a non-jarring way. I guess that's the challenge: find a way to intrude upon an app running full-screen to say, "Turn off the WiFi!"

I think the real problem here is you are trying to connect to unsecured networks.

Windows 7 won't allow this unless you change the network type to Public, as this will secure the files and folders on your machine.

Follow the link which shows you how to change to a Public network and also tells you why the Public network option is there.

Hi anyone there.
I am new to this forum. I don't know whether there is any formal way of asking the queries or any such formalities. If so do inform me.

I am facing a problem since today as my WiFi is turned on, but i cannot view the list of networks that is available in my workplace. When i asked my colleague whether he could view the list in his laptop, he was able to. And also when i checked through my smart phone i was able to view a list of wireless networks. So it means there is some error in my laptop. I realised this when i tried creating a AD-HOC connection which eventually resulted in 'Windows cannot set up NETWORK NAME'. Can anyone help me out sort this problem. Why is it that i am not able to view the list of wireless network? And why can't i establish a AD-HOC connection??

A:Solved: WiFi cannot list the networks available

I don't know whether there is any formal way of asking the queries or any such formalities. If so do inform me.Click to expand...

You did the correct action. Welcome.

I assume you are trying to use an integrated adapter.

Are you sure it is switched on? You toggle it off and back on and get confirmation that it is on?

Make sure you have the latest driver from the laptop manufacturer's web site. If you have the correct one reinstall it anyhow in case the installed instance is corrupt.

What firewall or security suite is, or ever was, on the system? Some, if mis-configured or corrupted, can actually make wireless networks "invisible."

If you can easily access the adapter through a cover on the laptop's bottom remove and carefully and firmly replace it to clean any possible corrosion on the contacts. Make sure the antenna leads are secure.

Hello,

My laptop is few months old HP Pavilion g6 OS: Windows 8 uses a ralink rt5390r 802.11bgn wifi adapter.

The wifi was working just fine suddenly it stopped. It detects my home network but every time it tries to connect ends up "unable to connect to this network".
It connects to my friends wifi but not mine. And it connects with cable.

There is a red cross on the wifi network but it's green not GREY.
It is not a modem problem because the other PC connects just fine.
When I'm on wifi, cmd ipconfig gives me disconnected media for all the network cards on the laptop. Command netsh shows failure and access denied.

What I have tried to do for the past week :

I upgraded the adapter/ driver. My windows is fully updated.
I re-installed the network card.
I tried a USB wifi.
I uninstalled the private server.
I uninstalled my Norton because I thought it was blocking the connection I also deactivated the windows fire wall.
I changed the SSID and PSW ... nothing worked.
and of course I tried restarting, resetting, rebooting, deactivating and activating, disabling and enabling every single thing but nothing works.
it's almost a week and I searched in many forums for a solution but it is not the same problem.
Can you help me please ! It is driving me crazy !

A:Wifi connects to other networks but not my home network

Probably won't help, but what does Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center show for your connection? And, when there, go to Change adapter settings. Once there, right click on whatever adapter icons are shown, and run Diagnose. For the heck of it, you could try Ethernet both through the router and directly to your modem. Does you computer have a manual external switch for turning wifi on and off?

And, try using WPA2 if not already doing so. Is Norton completely uninstalled to the point where Windows Defender is working?

Hey Guys,

My WiFi started acting strangely lately, right after a "technician" messed with it and now I can't connect to ANY secured wireless networks (including my own!), however when I try to connect to unsecured wireless networks, they do work. *I AM able to connect to these same networks via ethernet cable.* I have secured networks at home and at work, both of which I know the passwords for, both of which used to work wirelessly everyday and now they do not.

When I try to connect to a secured network I get this error message every time: "Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again." I have tried many times to no avail.

Although I get this error message, I know for a fact that I am definitely within the range of the wireless signal; I used other laptops and smartphones to connect to the networks just to make sure.

Please help if you know what can be causing this, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

A:WiFi Problem Can't connect to secured networks

Does your Wireless adapter use a different utility to monitor wireless networks other then the Windows Utility? There may be another icon in the System Tray in the lower right hand corner that is disabled. Usually right clicking this icon and enabling it should work. Or you may need to find it in the All Programs list to start it. There should be a section where you can edit the saved password for your wireless adapter and once that is removed, you can retype the password for the secured wireless network you are trying to connect to.

Hey guys,
Is there a way to save different IP Addresses/sub nets/gateways for different wireless networks, without having to manually enter them in every time? I connect to several networks (mainly 1 at home and 1 at work) that have static addressing. I would like to be able to somehow save the IP address/sub net/gateway so that every time I connect to the "Home" network it would always use the correct static addressing, and do the same for the "Work" network so that it would automaticlly switch to a different saved addressing for it. It would also be nice if it could default to DHCP if I don't have saved addressing for even a different wireless network (this would be nice when I connect to hotspots on the move).

Is this possible in Win7 or do I have to download a profiler of some sort?

Thanks!

A:Save static addressing for WiFi networks?

You can try the Network and Sharing center then on the left choose "manage wireless connections". All of your previous connections will be listed there.

I purchased a new HP Windows 7 laptop for my wife to take to France and England. The computer works perfectly here in the US! I have Microsoft Security Essentials running on it. All software and drivers are up to date.

Over there when she trys to browse the Internet using the hotels' WiFi she gets a message about certificates being expired. I assume this is the website's certificate. But she says no websites can be accessed.

So I was wondering if anyone here has any ideas as to what could be the problem/issue?

Thanks in advance.

A:New computer will not access European WiFi networks

This can actually be caused by a million things. One of which is the date and time on the computer being wrong.
She could try setting the timezone/region on the machine to match her current location if she hasn't already.

Heya

I have a simple issue. I have just installed my windows 7 on laptop and I have 2 networks at home.

1 Lan for files
1 WIFI for internet.

Now if I want to get file for some reason he is using WIFI connection rather than Lan connection. How can I tell windows to use right connection for right thing?

Also for some reason my N router and laptop wiwi is running at only 54 mb... any hints how to get full 400 +?

Thanks, bye.

A:Windows 7 - N 6230 and priority networks with lan and wifi

To my knowledge you can not have 2 functioning LAN connections at the same time. Whether 2 Ethernet or 1 Ethernet and 1 WiFi. The OS will only communicate over one connection at a time.

As to the Router set it into N mode and or N&G mode and have a N mode WiFi card in the notebook.

Suddenly my Yoga 12 refuses to list all available wifi networks.  It only lists networks that I have used before, like my cellphone hotspot.  It will not list any new networks, like the Panera Bread or the Pete's I just walked into.  I am sitting in a very commercial area, and there should be at least 12-15 networks showing on the list.  But the only one itI can connect to is my cellphone.   And yes, my wifi adapter is up to date, I just updated the driver.  No change.

A:Yoga 12 has stopped finding new wifi networks

Hi Holmes.

I don't have your machine, my only ideas or suggestions are:

1) Try to remove the device (Windows Device Manager) with a right click select "Uninstall" and select "Delete the driver software for this device". After that reinstall the driver againt.

2) Just in case check if getting closer to the router works at all. If moving it improves, maybe it can be something related to the antenna.

3) Maybe you can try something not official approved by Lenovo like finding an update driver for it. For example sometimes I use "DriverEasy" to find newer wifi drivers on my machines. Only use this if you feel confortable installing/uninstalling drivers on your machine.

This is what it cames to my mind right now. Sorry it is not too much.

Regards

As the title says, I got a BSOD for the first time (since I had a bad memory module) during a casual WiFi network change. I am willing to add more details to this thread if required. I have attached the output of SF Debug Tool after removing personal identifiable information.

Hi Sabrefresco ^_^,

Unfortunately, the ZIP File uploaded by you does not contain any Dump files for us to analyse

You would have to upload them manually. The Dump files are located in the path "C:\Windows\Minidumps\". Make sure you ZIP up all the dump files in the folder and then upload the ZIP File in your next post as an attachment.
You might need to copy the dump files to some other folder before you could ZIP them up due to permission issues.

Let me know how it goes ^_^.

I decided to re-install Windows 10 on my Satellite C50Dlaptop because I had a lot of junk on the C drive which was slowing itdown. Before doing this I took a systemimage and backed up all the drivers. After I had re-installed Windows 10 it would only connect to one of thetwo wifi networks I have at home whereas, previously, it would connect toeither. I then rolled the machine backusing the disk image and it would again connect to either network. I then re-installed Windows 10 again and madesure the drivers were as in the original configuration and, sure enough, itwould only connect to one of the wifi networks.

What can be causing this? It cannot be a hardware fault because it connects fine in the originalconfiguration. Any ideas please.

Hi all.

Can you help me configure my Win10 to automatically connect to multiple wifi networks?

I have wifi at home so when I get to the office I have to configure the "manage wifi settings" on my laptop, click "forget" my home wifi, and manually enter the office wifi password. I repeat the same process when I get home from the office or use the wifi in my brother's house. I had this on my Windows 7 but can't figure out how to in Win10.

Minor issues, I know, but still a pain. TIA

Hi all,

New to the forum, but I've been having some major issues. I recently moved to a new area. In doing so, it's taking some time to get internet set up at my new place. In the mean time I'm using a public access point (a coffee shop or library) and every time I get on the internet, it crashes exactly every 6 minutes. I have a million minidump files, but I've attached only the most recent, and assume they will all be similar if not the same.

Can anyone analyze this and tell me what's going on or how to fix it. I'm in safemode now, it's the only way to use the internet without crashes.

Thanks!

A:BSOD when accessing public wifi networks...

If you have wifi software installed. Uninstall it and allow windows to recognize the wireless device and install its own drivers.

My 2016 ProBook 455 was in standby mode and hot to the touch, so I opened it up to make sure everything was OK. Apparently it had gotten so hot it shut itself down (though I don't know how?the vents weren't blocked and it wasn't even doing anything), and now that it's booted back up my wifi icon has a red X in the corner and says "No wifi networks found". My wifi is working fine on my phone and desktop; I even rebooted the router just to be sure. All the built-in Windows 10 and HP diagnostic tools say there's no problem, but it's still not detecting any wifi networks (not even the 10 others I regularly see from elsewhere in my apartment building). Help, please!

Hi,

We have internet provided through the place we live for free. It is broadcasted as an unsecured wifi network. I can connect to the internet with no problems with my windows 7 computer. I recently got a windows 8 computer. I this computer has trouble staying connected to the unsecured network. It will connect for a few minutes then the limited connectivity will come up. Other times it says its connected has a full strength bar but the connection just spins and nothing loads. I have tried a few other forum suggestions with no luck. I have went to the settings and told the computer to not turn of the wifi to save battery which has not fixed the problem. I do not have access to the router and have not way to change anything with it. I have tried turning of the firewall turning of the windows defender to see it it was those programs but still have a connection problem. I am unsure what setting is keeping the connection from being stable with this computer.

A:Wifi connection issues with unsecured networks

Bad driver or has an antenna that is not as sensitive as the old Windows 7 computer. It helps to post the manufacturer & model of the computer.

Also open up a Command Prompt and enter the following without the quotes. Post the results on here: "netsh wlan show all" .

Hey. Sorry if this is asked here frequently, but Google hasn't been any help to me.

My girlfriend has Toshiba Satellite notebook with an Intel BG2200 integrated wifi card in it. She configures it through Intel's ProWireless software. The WiFi card works flawlessly sometimes. She lives in an apartment building, so there are numerous networks available (10+). It connects to her own router (which is one room over). Has a strong signal. Everything is good.

Other times (which are becoming much more frequent), the card can't find any networks at all. Not hers or any of the other 10 usually up in her building. Turning on and off the card either through software or the hardware switch does nothing. Rebooting the computer does nothing. Both her roomate's computer and their Wii have no problems connecting, so I think the router is fine. Its just her WiFi card that doesn't seem to work. Eventually things will start working again, but it can be a day or so before it fixes itself.

Her birthday is coming up, and I'm thinking about just getting her a new card, but before I do, I'd like to know if there's some easier solution for this. If more info would help, just ask. I might have to sneak in and look it up though.
