Lenovo B590 BIOS update failure! BIOS FLASH! Black...

Q: Lenovo B590 BIOS update failure! BIOS FLASH! Black...

Hello everyone! I ama new user and i am coming up with this post as I couldn`t find any kind of solution for my problem.Recently I decided to do a reinstallation of my operating system, which also previously was Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). The installation went as usual, and after finishing it I went on to install all the latest drivers from the Lenovo site, for my product. When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i`ve needed, i stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop, by the producer. So i proceeded to install the upgrade, restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so, but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual. At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing, things that i did not understand at the time (i have never encountered anything like that). After that my screen turned black. I have not done anything for a few couple of minutes as i thought it was supposed to be like that, but then i just force shut it down and unplugged the AC adapter. When trying to boot it all up again, the only thing i got was a black screen and nothing else. After doing a little bit of research it appears that, somehowm i`ve managed to corrupt the bios on my laptop or something, and nothing else would work at this point. I tried to remove the BIOS battery and the ram and then put them all back, tryed resetting the bios by taking out the battery but nothing would work. I would be really thankful if anyone would be kind enough to point me one way or another as i do not know what to do at all. Around the webz i found some way of creating a bootable usb flash drive where i would put a compatible version of BIOS from the site and then install it onto the laptop but i do not quite know how to do that properly either, as the software they are pointing me to (wincrisis) is not working by any means.

Hi I have changed boot order and also I have disabled UEFI in order to install linux on other partition(not done yet). as I always do on other laptops. But now after changing to legacy mode I cannot access BIOS anymore. I got pxe-e61 error. OK so I insert USB linux drive and it is working properly with live boot.  But I realy need to boot Windows, but it is not possible becoŠuse of UEFI being turnd off. Also It is not possible to access bios, because BIOS was accessed from recovery windows menu, whitch doesnt load anymore. Also when it is booting up (lenovo logo) I press esc (no other keys are workind) which open menu where I "can" boot to BIOS. So I press F1 menu dissapears but I end up with same PXE-E61 error. Any advice how to enter BIOS and change it back to UEFI mode ? thanks

A:Lenovo B590 cannot access BIOS - UEFI disabled

I hope you meant to say Lenovo B590, because I cannot find any reference to a Lenovo G590 Not sure why, but others have reported that to regain access to the BIOS, you have to do the following. remove the battery and power, then remove the back panel.remove the BIOS battery.    See page 44, 45 and 52 of the Hardware Maintenance Manualleave it for a couple of minutes (I would say 5 minutes or more).replace the BIOS battery and the cover, then the battery and then the powerBoot up and use F1 / F2 to go into the bios Hardware Maintenance Manual Lenovo B590https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/b590_hmm_en.pdf I hope it works for you too. Good Luck,

HiAfter unsuccessful BIOS update I made a brick from my G780. Maybe notfully. SYmptoms are below. When I pressing power ON button I hear a fan, HDD and DVD and led frompower, battery lights on, and led from hdd blinks one time. After thatnumlock's led is on. On screen I see nothing. It is just black. Even indark room when I'm flashing directly on it still see nothing. In thisstate Laptop react for pressing capslock or numlock buttons andchanging their state ON/OFF. I tried to do emergency BIOS flashing by unplugging AC, holding Fn-Band then power button. FAN is spinning on highest speed, pendrive thatI used blinks one time and after about 10 seconds starting flashingwith led for 20 or more seconds. I seems like reading bios QIWG5.binfile, but after those 20 seconds nothing happens. I read that G780should make one short beep, and after a while should start beeping ininterval several times. Instead of this is only silence and after a fewminutes shutting down without success. Symptoms are still like insecond paragraph. I tried every USB port, with or without battery, original BIOS that wasbefore update, this new bios. Pendrive is formatted in FAT16.Any suggestions about what else can I do?Best regards, Peter*sorry for my English I didn't use it since school)

Hello, I recently bought a Lenovo z50-75. A few hours ago I wanted to update my bios. It was updating and suddenly the laptop restarted and there was just a black screen. I could hear the fans running, but the keyboard doesnt work because if I press Caps Lock the light won't turn on. I searched on google and there I found some solutions (with pressing keys, removing battery, etc.), but none seemed to work.I also found something about the CMOS battery. I opened my laptop but I couldn't seem to find it. What can I do now?  Best regards, Max

A:Lenovo Z50-75 bios update failed > black screen

Welcome to the Lenovo Community Max !

From viewing your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual there is a motherboard CMOS battery.  Unfortunately from the illustrations in the manual it would appear that the CMOS battery on the Z50-70 is soldered directly to the motherboard and can not be easily removed.  In that case try removing the main battery pack again and then press the power button for 60 seconds or longer.  Hopefully the CMOS battery will not be able to keep up with the power drain and will clear the CMOS.  Then reinstall the main battery pack and try powering it up.

For your reference, here is a link to the Hardware Maintenance Manual......

https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_g_z_50_series_hmm.pdf

If that doesn't resolve the problem then I recommend you contact Lenovo Support for additional warranty service.

I'm on a fresh install of 64-bit windows 8.1, but the BIOS installer gives the following error message: "Your machine does not match with this BIOS. Update process will be halted." Why on earth is this? I googled the error message but this only seems to be a problem with people trying to upgrade the BIOS from win 10... but I'm definitely on 8.1, it even says Windows 8.1 Build 9600 in the corner. The only modification I made is that I upgraded the ram to 8 GB (from 4 GB), but the BIOS update fails even if I take the extra stick out.

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro S/N YB03851970i7, 8GB, 256GB SSDWindows 10 Similar to another poster here, I experienced a BSOD, then on restart no drive was detected. Checked the connection and confirmed that the drive was firmly seated. A few threads online indicated that switching BIOS settings from UEFI to Legacy Support had worked for some people, however this was not the case in my situation. After figuring out the ssd part number using this tool: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/ibasepartslookup I checked prices and found that an exact replacement was a bit on the pricey side for an mSATA drive. I found a faster unit for almost half the price through Crucial: https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX200-250GB-mSATA-Internal/dp/B00RQA6LFA Upon receiving the replacement drive I referred to these instructions for replacing the unit: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Lenovo+Yoga+2+Pro+SSD+Replacement/52424 Note that the fasteners on the bottom of the laptop are not Phillips #00 as indicated in that article, but are in fact Torx T5. If you're a normal person and don't have a bit that size, a good high quality option is Wiha: https://www.amazon.com/Wiha-75985-Handle-Storage-MicroBit/dp/B00XIPTG4A Get yourself a bootable USB (search Microsoft support), and you'll be on your way. Hope this will be helpful to someone else who runs into the same issue. Cheers!

Hello ! I tried to flash another Bios version wich killed my Bios-chips. I ordered to repair them besides an electronic company. They put new Chips in but flashed it with the wrong version of Bios: 3.70Before i started to flash the Bios it was 8.0 Version. After i got my Mainboard back today i re-assembled the Laptop and started it. I pressed "f2" to get into bios and to select boot option. I cant see any drives there, just UEFI Lan stuff. So i cant boot from Harddrives and the Laptop is useless atm.So it seems that this Windows 8 Version of the Laptop wont work with the 3.7 Version of the Bios, am i right ?Is it possible to flash the 8.0 Version without damaging the laptop again ? Please help me, i need the Laptop to work. Greetings and thank you in advanced Patrick

Hi All,

I recently started experiencing BSOD's on my PC and in the process of trying to fix this I have decided to flash my BIOS.
I flashed it but now when I start my PC I get the message "disk boot failure, insert system disk..."
I suspect the problem is coming from the fact that I have a dual boot system that let me choose Vista or XP, and that for some reason, the new BIOS does not recognize it.
I have NO CLUE on how I could solve this.
XP was installed first on C drive, then Vista on a separate physical drive.
Please help!

A:Boot failure after BIOS flash

Was it the correct BIOS for your motherboard? Did you have a RAID setup? Go to the BIOS setup and make sure that your hard drive is recognised and listed in the boot order.

Sony should have Bios Flashing instructions on their support website. Find them! Most of the time bios are flashed outside of Windows using a bootable floppy or CD/DVD disc

All,
I have a Lenovo ThinkCentre M57 6072-AUF running Windows 7 64 bit. I got it for a song at a computer recycle center? It was originally a govt of Quebec system and the BIOS is in French. I want to flash the BIOS to update it and to also convert it to English. I went to the Lenovo site and burned the correct BIOS .iso to a disk. The old BIOS version is ?LENOVO 2RKT38AFR, 2/15/2008? the new version / .iso is ?2rj964a.iso?. However, there is no executable and even though I was able to stumble my way through the French BIOS set up and change the boot sequence to CD/DVD first, it will not boot on start up. The flash from within Windows BIOS version on the Lenovo site is an executable, but only supports a 32 bit OS. Is there a separate flash utility that I can use that will allow me to drive the new BIOS flash from inside Windows 7 64 bit? Basic steps would be good, I could never be accused of being a technical all-star. Thanks

A:BIOS Flash Question Lenovo ThinkCentre M57 6072-AUF

Hi Welcome to Seven Forums .. There is no executable for the 64 Bit OS .. Try tapping F1 or F2 at start up .. That should give you bootable Options ..

I have a huge problem with a B590 Notebook: I replaced the harddisk for a test installation of windows 10. This was already quite a pain in the youknowwhat, since it didn't want to boot from USB-stick. I was able to solve that by changing a boot-option in the BIOS to 'legacy' and changing the boot-order and could continue with the windows 10-installation. Then I wanted to reinstall the old harddrive and run the original windows 8 again. Unfortunately the computer doesn't seem to recognize the original harddrive a boot-device anymore. Instead it seems to search for a boot-device on the network (in an endless loop). The problem now is, that I can't access the BIOS anymore. Pressing F1 as stated on the boot screen has no effect (just like pressing F2, F10, F12, ESC, Enter, AnyKey). My next idea was entering the BIOS from the still running windows 10 installation (By pressing Shift+Restartbutton.) Strangely there is no 'UEFI Firmware settings'-option So how can I enter the BIOS to check the boot-settings/order on this notebook? Thanks!

hi mahdhir2005,

Im sorry to hear that.

I would suggest you call the Lenovo Technical Team regarding the Issue. If it is the BIOS that's causing the issue then there maybe no source or option to have it fixed without they're help or service.

If the BIOS software you downloaded was from a legit Lenovo Site and correct model, then I think It will be ok to Just report them what happened and ask for possible option.

Hope this helped
Thanks!

Hello, I have an Acer Aspire Timeline X 5820TG, with the black screen of death. This happened a few starts after cleaning some virus with MS defender.
I have read that it is most likely a corrupted bios. I have also since ruled out the screen and the cmos battery and clearing the static without the battery.
Apparently after downloading the latest bios upgrade file (ZQ1_122W.executive) Acer support onto a flash drive, I used FN + Esc then the Power button to install the above bios file.
After this failed, I added a notepad with Autorun in brackets and then ( open = the bios e x e )file , as well and saved it as an I N F file, along with the executive bios file and retried. (This is the absolute extent of my coding knowledge).
But so far I have been unsuccessful.
I suspect I am trying to install the wrong bios file, and also installing it the wrong way as well.
The computer shops are just keen to sell me a new expensive replacement laptop, and so not much help there either.
Please, if anyone can help me I would be so appreciative and thankful.

John

A:Acer Aspire Black screen. Help with bios flash please

I doubt if this is a BIOS issue but it's possible the computer was bricked after a bad flash that you said failed.

What happens when you tap F8 at boot? Do you get the Advanced Boot Options. I am assuming this is Windows 7. You cannot access Safe Mode with Windows 8 or 10 using F8.

Do you need any data on the hard drive? If not, would you be willing to do a factory reset? If you do need the data would you be willing to do a factory reset after recovering the data?

What was the OS that came with this computer?  Was it upgraded to Windows 10?

Do you have another computer you can burn an iso file to CD? I am hoping you can boot a CD or USB flash drive on this computer.

Today I went to the page for my Envy to get updated drivers for the network.  While there, I saw a bios update dated 8-3-16  (today)   and went ahead and installed it.  It said in a box that it had to restart my laptop and that was the last time my laptop worked.  I now have a black screen and the cap lock key flashes twice and then pauses and then flashes twice.  Over and over. The system doesn't recognize HD, DVD nor USB drives. Is there anyway to bring this system back?

Hi all,

Hoping someone can help with this frustrating issue.

Basically I was updating the BIOS on an alienware area 51 alx (specifically A08 - A10).
During the update the pc blue-screened, the update was done in Windows and not via a boot disk/command prompt...something i'm now regretting.
Upon reboot it is now stuck in a loop, doesn't even get as far as its post checks, it just powers up for 30 seconds or so then shuts down and begins again.

If anyone has any ideas it would be hugely appreciated.

The dialogue is not very informative except for the reading, writing and verifying phases, but I did see "Done" elsewhere so I assumed it was finished. Restarted and Windows 8.1 loaded ok. Switched it off to install a new HDD, now no display. I suspect now something did go wrong with the update. Have since pulled the CMOS battery and mains power to no avail. Maybe Jumper is next. I've read here and there about the Acer "Crisis mode" of BIOS recovery. I have a USB flash formatted in Fat32, I have a CAP file that I somehow have to convert to a ROM and then rename to "fd"? Have read other comments including someone who may have just renamed the CAP to ROM for the recovery. Does anybody have any input they'd like to share to help me here?

A:failure update bios

You either tried to install the wrong BIOS or it was a corrupted DL - Or even a power failure during the BIOS install. Is it not seeing your drive at all? Find out, see if the hard drive is detected, then see if you can change the boot order.

Go into your BIOS, see if the hard drive is being shown, if it is, check the boot order.

All I know is a BIOS update failure on a Lenovo can be a very bad thing, I'm sorry this happened. I've fixed a wrong BIOS on various computers, but never on a Lenovo.

You'll have to download the real BIOS file on another PC, and stick it on a USB floppy along with the BIOS installer. That's assuming the system will detect any USB drives. It MUST be in "Drive A" if you do it from a USB floppy.

Hi. I am trying to update my BIOS using download SP75637, but the update always fails.  I download the file and launch it and it tells me the process completed successfully, but when I restart the PC via the update process, the update fails.  The system states that there is a missing BIN file.  It also states that the file should be located in" C:\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\New", but the update process doesn't even create this folder.  What is the problem? BTW, I am a retired IT professional and have perfomed BIOS/SW updates for 20+ years.  Why dosen't the update process create the necessary folders? TIA...JL

Hello, I have an ENVY 17-J006ED Notebook; Bought in december 2014. On the HP website there was the advice to update the BIOS. I downloaded file SP76843.exe. I run the app directly from Windows; so I did not create an USB-drive. I had the idea that the update went well. The computer restarted, but I got a black screen. Some times the light of the Caps Lock key blinks two times. In this forum I found the following solution: So what I did was I formatted a USB as fat32 and named it HP_TOOLS and downloaded latest bios installation exe file. Drag the .fd file you want to the download exe file. Click next and there will be 3 options. Select the one with install to USB device (removeable media) the continue with it. It will create subfolders and insert the bios file in right place. It will be converted to a different format (bios file will be decrypted). The mentioned steps were done by a different computer. Take battery out of the corrupted laptop and hold down power button for 10 or more seconds. This will reset any active voltages. Don't replace the battery but plug the USB in and plug it in to the power. Now hold down Windows key and 'B' key together and the power button. Keep holding the three buttons until the CAPS lock led blinks once. Release power button and keep holding Windows + B keys together until CAPS lock led starts blinking consistently. Wait few seconds and it will automatically bootup via USB into bios recovery screen. I fol... Read more

Long story (kinda) short.i got a virus, is a really mean virus, encrypts all my files, prevents antivirus programs from opening and redirects downloads.virus survives 3 factory resets, 3 hard drive formats and a reinstallation of Windows. This leads me to believe it has gotten itself into the Bios of my computer.so i downloaded the latest bios for my system, in this caseHP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 2AF3)through the installer on another computer i installed the bios update to my usb, inserted it into my main pc, Held down Windows Key and B, while booting my computer.this resulted in Beeps, and Wrooms from my computer, 10 minutes later, nothing happened.I decided to boot the installer directly from inside infected computer, but this resulted in a failure too.saying that the downloaded bios isnt compatible. What i am asking is how i should go about removing old (maybe) infected bios, and reinstalling this new one.

I am not aware of a way to flash the BIOS in Ubuntu but it might be possible if there is a Wine app in the version you have.  I have not experimented or read where anyone else has tried it either.  You might ask over in the Ubuntu forums.  Nor sure if it is possible in WIN PE 3.0 either.

Just purchased this new laptop last week. Got all my Win8.1 updates, installed my Office program, got that updated and went to update the BIOS as a last step. I followed the instructions on the Lenovo site, but when the last message came up on the flash utility, it did not reboot even after 1 hour - then the screen went black and has stayed that way! Followed the 'recover' instructions - I have pressed the novo button, but nothing shows up on the screen.. just black. I have a G50-70 which uses the "InsydeH2O" BIOS. Has anyone successfully restored the BIOS using a USB drive or other method? Should I open a ticket with Lenovo support? Feeling helpless here.. my new laptop seems dead. Thanks for any suggestions

A:Any way to fix BIOS update failure (G50-70)

Sorry, don't know why that post above showed up as a wall of text.I had spaces in there!  lol   So, from what I've read, you can't 'fix' a bad BIOS flash with the new Insyde manufacturer.(Some forum had really complicated instructions and a marginal sucess rate...) Oh well, was worth a try!

Finally gave into the Lenovo nagging and updated the BIOS on my E560 - big mistake. It went through and installed fine, no issues with failures, etc (well none that appeared on the screen). The laptop restarted fine, it went through and updated the BIOS, restarted one final time and ...... nothing. At present I have popped the battery and the power, reset the unit (press pwr button for 15sec etc), removed all peripherals, etc, etc, googled for similar happenings and so no matter what I have done, the laptop is as dead as a brick. I have the small red power light on but that's about it. Nothing appears on the screen (so can't see UEFI/BIOS), no fans start and about the only thing that does work is the DVD drive can be opened. It's a relatively new laptop (less than 12 months old so still under warranty) but as a word of caution to other E560 owners - DO NOT INSTALL THE LATEST BIOS UPDATE. Well no unless you want an expensive paper-weight for your desk.

I found this procedure on a lenovo forum. Give it a shot and see if it works for you. If not, it is not worth putting money into fixing this laptop.. New ones are pretty cheap and having a new mb installed in this one will cost more than a new laptop.

BTW the spelling errors are from the forum NOT mine.

Bios recovery procedure

How to Recover a bad or brick bios in lenovo laptops:

1.Download Phoenix Wincrisis then Click on the WINCRIS.exe and choose CREATE MINIDOS CRISIS DISK and press START to make: USB Flopy or usb flash memory.
When creating the boot Floppy or usb memory, select from Folder Options to view the hiden and system files and delete or rename the file config.sys if present.
2. Download your Bios file from lenovo.com if u dont have it, Rename your BIOS file to bios.wph and copy it to your: USB Floppy/usb memory.

First of all I want to say that I am extremely disappointed with the experience I had with my Lenovo. After I bought it I found out that Lenovo, for some reason, disabled the Turbo Boost option of the CPU. I tried to fix it by entering the BIOS but the options there were limited, so I decided to update the BIOS. I downloaded the BIOS update for 64-bit windows(i am running windows 8 which is compatible with the said update utillity). I ran the .exe and followed all the instructions (did not shut-down restart or anything my computer). After installing it automatically restarted and a Lenovo logo prompted on the screen followed by ">>Start PXE over IPv6, Press [ESC] to EXIT..." after that "EFI Network 0 for IPv6(numbers and letters) boot failed". Then ">>Start PXE over IPv4" which failed and a blue box poped saying "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed. Insert Recovery Media and Hit any ket then select boot manager to choose a new boot device or to boot recovery media". Pressed ok and got me to Boot Manager screen. Boot option Menu had only EFI Network 0 for IPv6 and EFI Network 0 for IPv4". What should I do?Note that I tried to start up both with and without the ethernet cable in.

When I look up your system on the support page I see quite a few updates, drivers and such that support windows 8.1 and 10.  If you are looking for a BIOS update or patch, those are usually OS neutral and are applied with either a BIOS utility or patcher that works in DOS mode and some can use a windows based utility.

Are you trying to use a BIOS update to fix an issue or just get the "latest and greatest" for your computer?  Mostly I would not recommend updating your BIOS unless it is absolutely neccessary to fix a troublesome issue or problem with hardware.

Hi! I updated my Lenovo T430u's BIOS from version 2.11 to 2.13 this morning and everything is slow since. I mean: sloooow. I had a functionnal dual boot Windows 10/Linux Mint but now Linux Mint takes around 3 minutes to boot. It took 25 seconds before. I figured it was related to the disk so I did the memory and disk diagnostics but everything seems ok. Even booting from USB/DVD is slow. I tried restoring default settings from BIOS, putting the battery in maintenance mode, removing the battery and even disconnecting the CMOS backup battery for an hour. I then tried to downgrade the BIOS but it does not seem like an option. This would probably fix my problem since everything was ok at version 2.11.I am really out of solution here! Please help, my computer is not usable in this state :/ Julien

Hello all, hope I can get some help here.

Replaced screen on an acer aspire one happy (aohappy pav70), after which the netbook fails to boot at all.
After much research online this appears to be a common problem with acer aspire one's, resulting in a need to flash the bios to be able to boot again.
There are many tutorials for accessing the bootblock to run a crisis disk across the system but not for this specific model. Most include downloading the bios from acer, copying the .fd files and flashi.exe files to a flash drive, then using the Fn and Esc button whilst turning the system on to start the crisis procedure for flashing the bios. This does not appear to work on this model so am looking for some help.

Is their a better/ just as easy way to do it. If so, how do I do this?

Also, If i downloaded and installed a new BIOS would I have to set it all up like the programmers do when you buy the computer, or will it keep the same settings?

BOOT FAILURE--INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

I am able to access the BIOS settings by pressing DEL at start-up, and I tried reflashing the old bios using ASUS EZ Flash (I had made a backup to a USB flash disk). It reads the old BIOS file and says ďBIOS downgrade not appropriate for systemĒ or something like that.

The purpose of this post is not to seek help. Rather, it is to relate how I brought my PC back to viability from what I thought was certain disaster. Keeping this brief, here's what happened: 1. downloaded latest BIOS after switching from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro.2. followed instructions as I'd done in the past - that is, it wasn't a new experience3. computer did nothing other than blink the Caps Lock key & illuminate the F12 key4. powering off and on, trying ESC did nothing5. still, computer did nothing other than blink the Caps Lock key & illuminate the F12 key6. removed PC battery and power cord7. removed button battery from motherboard8. replaced button battery onto motherboard9 Magic occurred - not only was all O.K., the BIOS was updated. I feel so lucky to have had the PC survive this odd experience. Perhaps others may benefit from my experience.

Laptop: HP ENVY dv7-7334ea Hi all, During a routine software update my laptop shut down. Now whenever I switch it on I can only see black screen and the Caps-Lock blinks twice.  I've found out it's most likely a BIOS failure. Removing battery didn't work. Removing battery from the motherboards - didn't work. Windows + B at start up - don't work.  I've downloaded a BIOS update for my laptop: sp68425, to try to recover it via an USB stick. I tried using the HP system BIOS update utility to create an flash USB recovery point but all the options are greyed out and useless. Nothing I've found on the forums to unlock it works. I've even tried a third-party utility software to create a bootable BIOS recovery USB stick but it failed to help as well. Finally, I tried putting the .bin file on the USB stick and boot it with the Win+B but no luck. Always the same results: Only black screen and Caps-Lock keeps blinking. Any ideas?

A:Boot failure due to BIOS update

I think it all depends on if you are able to get back into the BIOS or restore the old one so you can see and change the default settings where appropriate.

If you can't get back into the BIOS anymore the chip either needs to be replaced or reflashed professionally or you need a new mobo.

Once you get your BIOS issues straightened about, then you can work on the hard drive (probably won't be any issue after BIOS boot order is restored).

In the meantime, if you don't have data backups, take the drive out and attach to another system and make backups.

Computer failed during upgrade of bios. I have followed all the steps to recover bios: taken out battery, pressed windows + B + power, restore screen appears. Computer goes thru bios restore process and verification. When it gets to the 'count down to windows start up' and 'continue to restart button', the computer freezes and does not restart. I have pressed the continue button, nothing. I have let the count down continue and it stops at 1 then nothing.

A:Toshiba A105: Failed BIOS flash; now no BIOS access & won't boot

Im trying to figure out why I've had no replies yet.

Have I asked a stupidly easy question that everyone is rolling their eyes to and cant bear to tell me the answer? Or have I stumped everyone?

I have a hard time believing this is a stumper. I've found the same question posted elsewhere on the net and shorting the CMOS seemed to help. That or removing the battery altogether (its soldered to the board), but I dont think Im doing it right. Can someone give me directions on that?

or is this just a lost cause? :-/

Hello, Lenovo team Can you please, add to your next BIOS update for Lenovo Y50-70 a fix, that my laptop won't lose CPU speed after i return my laptop from sleep mode. Right now i'm using BIOS version (3.03) There is no other way to fix this issue, only you can do it with a BIOS update for that model of laptop. Thank you.

Hello there. I have a few questions regarding the recent release of BIOS update with version number CDCN37WW. Currently my BIOS is on version CDCN35WW. I was about to install it yesterday but did not because of several reasons. I read the instruction saying that I should put the BIOS settings at its default settings before installing the CDCN37WW update and there lies my problem. I bought the 15ISK version with 1TB HDD. A month ago I bought a 128GB SSD and did a clean install of Windows 10 on my new SSD. After booting into Windows 10 on my SSD in Legacy Mode, I format the partition in the 1TB HDD which houses my default installation of Windows 10 (the pre-installed Windows 10 by Lenovo). I did not completely wipe the HDD altogether and thus I still have the partitions created by Lenovo. The main issue that is stopping me from installing the update is my BIOS settiings. In BIOS boot submenu, I have it set to Legacy and then Legacy First so that it detects my SSD. UEFI does not detect my SSD. Default settings sets UEFI instead of Legacy. In conclusion, I cannot install the BIOS update even if I wanted to because I won't be able to boot into Windows 10 on my SSD once I change BIOS settings to default because UEFI (default settings is set to UEFI) does not detect my SSD. My questions are: -1. Does anyone have any solution or workaround to this problem ?2. Is it really compulsory to set the BIOS settings back default ? Or is it just a "... Read more

Hello,I have flashed my laptop's BIOS with the tool from the support page, I can see that the new BIOS version is installed (0ZCN26WW), but the EC version is different (0ZEC25WW).I have even enabled the BIOS rollback feature so I could flash it twice as I've seen in a different post, but still no good luck. Is this a normal behaviour? Should let it be, or do I have to do anything else? Thanks,Alex

I'm here to request Lenovo to update the bios to enable the M.2 2242 42mm for SSDs? This is really bad since our office PCs have been upgraded from T450s but it seems we are downgrading as we cannot use our originally bought M.2 2242 for the old T450s. Can you please update the bios to enable this the 2242 for SSDs? We need more diskspace to do some graphics and photo make ups on the road. The single 2280 is not enough since when we got the machines, only 512GB was available.

A:T460s - Request Lenovo to update the bios to enabl...

I don't believe that the PCI-e circuitry is still present for the WWAN card slot on the T460s so it's not as simple as a BIOS change to enable the previous functionality which was present in the T450s. There is a 1TB option for the T460s which is the PM961 SSD which could be installed in place of your 512gb SSD, but that may not be an option in your case.

A while ago I posted the possibility of upgrgrading my 6GB Lenovo V570 to 16GB.  It seemed as if it would be ok, although contrary to what Lenovo stated, but I chickened out.  Instead I've been living with my unit opearting very slowly and having the desktop manager and shockwave flash frequently fail.  It's not wonderful dealing with this and I have been looking for answers.  I thought about adding another couple of GB and along the way found suggestions on updating the drivers and bios.  Anyone savvy enough to advise on what drivers being updated would improve and how to accomplish this?  Also how is the bios updated wihtout screwing everything up?  I'm also thinking of doing a factory resore after backing up all the info on the unit.  Woudl a fresh start help or should I just  save my money and buy a new windows 10 computer?  Thanks!

Hi,  I would like to ask anyone here if you guys can help me with the Bios update 2014 5FCN95WW private/public installation.  Here's what I did: All was fine on my Z480 when I came from W7 Ultimate to W10. Then I notice after 3 months that some online games can't be played with W10 so I decided to go back to W7 Ultimate. So I did a clean installation of W7, My Bios version is 5FCN95WW 2012.. So I checked some updates on the web of Lenovo and found 2014 but with the same code of 5FCN95WW... I wonder why, so I download it and install, it restarted my pc and I thought all is okay, but when i checked the System Info it's still says 2012..  Now, my brightness adjustment using Fn+ up and down arrow keys is now having some issues. It wasn't there before.. Everytime I adjust the brightness, The Bar that shows on my screen is not calibrated or not accurate. It adjust by 4 rows each time i press it, so from high pressing the down button just once it drops to 4 bars and pressing it again shows no highlighted bars anymore but the brightness of my screen is still the same.  I uninstall Energy management and restart my pc and reinstall it again but still the same. My Fn+f4 and Fn+F1 are also not working anymore..  I tried to flash the Bios I downloaded from the web but I am getting an error saying "Error: 182 - BIOS Image is equal or older than ROM"..  I went on the bios settings to ENABLE the Bios Flash config... Hi Lenovo Forum.I've bought this Notebook a month ago and I'm fairly satisfied with it.After I've done some tweaks such as removing the dust filter and downgrading the BIOS, the performance is great! But I ran into some problems after using it for a while now.I saw that there is a new BIOS update and I wanted to test it, but when I start the .exe it gives me: Runtime Error (at:1611):Out of String range. When I use CPU-Z to look up my Hardware, at BIOS it says Missing String or in the Lenovo Settings App BIOS: N/AI've read that others had this problem too, but no one has found a Solution. Does anybody know what I can do?

I built this compter about 3 yrs ago. It has the Asus M4A785-M board. It had been sluggish for a while. Then it finally just crashed with the BSOD and a checksum error. This is one I had given to a friend, so I'm not sure what all happened to it. Anyway she brought it to me a few days ago to fix. I tried to re-install XP PRO, but got the message that the BIOS needs to be updated. I have already wiped the HD. The BIOS version is 0906 from 4/14/10. I have never done this and have no idea what I'm doing. I haven't been able to find out what the latest version is or what to do next. I need all the help I can get!!

A:Problems w/ Flash Bios Update via CD-rom.

Download the CD ISO file, and 'burn' to a CD.   Boot from that CD, you may need to change the boot order in the BIOS if it doesn't go to that drive before the HD.   It may ask if you want to change the model and serial number, reply No.

I have a TP S1 Yoga (Model 20CDCTo1WW) running Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit. I utilize it mostly at work and have it hooked up to a Thinkpad Onlink Pro Dock.  I use the dock to run two external monitors, for connecting to our network (through an ethernet cable) and utilize the USB ports on the front/back to hook up a wireless keyboard/mouse, for powering my phone and for thumbdrives.  I had the problem of the Onelink having port "flapping" issues (network would disconnect and connect at random times) as discussed elsewhere in these forums.  The solution that I found was to update the bios.

I proceeded to attempt to update the bios (which I had not done since I purchased it in January 2014).  The current bios version is: GQET32WW (1.12), 1/22/2014.  I downloaded the TP Yoga bios update utility for Windows 8.1 (64-bit), Version 1.18.  I read the README and then ran the utility.  It installed the utility software to a location on the local drive ("c:" ) and then proceeded.  I went through the setup screens, selecting the "Update ThinkPad BIOS" clicking through a few more text boxes (with the warning about not powering off, keeping it plugged in, etc) until it asked to reboot. I clicked OK to reboot, which it did.  This is the next thinkg I seen on the screen:

A:Latitude 3330 BIOS update failure

Hi Edwalin,
Welcome to the Dell Community.
Since the system is not booting to the Desktop screen, Assuming you have Windows 7 Operating System installed on the system.
I would suggest you follow the steps to boot the system into ‘Safe Mode with Networking’ and check.

Restart the computer.
As the computer boots, press <F8> when the Dell Splash Screen appears.
Scroll down to option ‘Safe mode with networking’ and Click on ‘Enter’ button.
This will boot you into the ‘Safe mode with networking’ and check.

If the system boots into the ‘Safe Mode with Networking’ then the issue seems to be with the drivers.
Let us know your findings.

I've had several fairly minor problems over the past few months with the computer. I decided to try a BIOS update (yeah, I know!). The update seemed to go just as the instructions said it should. Now however it does not boot up. It stops at the Hardware screen and stays there. I have checked my boot devices priority and they are correct (HD/CD/USB). I have reset the CMOS twice. I have selected the "Optimum" settings in BIOS. Still the computer begins to boot up, passes the enter BIOS screen and then just hangs on the Hardware screen where my fans/temps etc are displayed.
The MB is a TA890GXE (Biostar), the BIOS is American Megatrends and is version 080015 Which should be the latest according to their website.

My harddrive recently failed and it cannot be recovered. However, now that the harddrive has failed, I can't put any harddrive or ssd in there even if they have working OS' installed. I even tried various OS' with bootable USB's. Freedos is the only OS that seems to run via USB.  I went through the hp support video: "How to update BIOS when windows does not run" but don't have the "Firmware Patching" option is not available as my update utility version is 3.3.7 rather than the 5.something version featured in the video. The exe provided(SP52604.exe) is... well and EXE! I need an iso or bin or something for freedos 1.0 to run it. I have tried using Freedos 1.1 which should run exe's however, I cannot find a bootable image of freedos 1.1 to put on usb.  What else can I do to flash the bios?

A:Lenovo G580 20157 bios 62cn97ww update problem

hi adarsh_savant,

I think you may have concern in this thread,
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Essential/G580-Bios-update-problem/m-p/1199186/highlight...

Here the suggested solution from neokenchi that helped.

1. Boot into the BIOS by repeatedly tapping F2 on startup

2. In the BIOS, navigate to the Boot Tab and set UEFI to Disabled or Legacy then press F10 to save and exit. When
the computer reboots, check if you still get the errors and/or if you're able to boot into Windows.

3. If same problem, leave the changes that you made on Step 2 and attempt to re-install Windows via a Windows 8 recovery drive or OneKey Recovery button (note that this will wipe the computer to factory settings)

Hope this helps,
Cheers!

Once the issue has been corrected, CDCN35WW or a newer version of the BIOS will be made available". Once the issue has been corrected, CDCN35WW version of the BIOS will be made available again????????So I downgraded my BIOS CDCN35WW to BIOS CDCN30WW, and after that I installed again BIOS CDCN35WW - everything went well, but now my BIOS shows it is CDCN30WW version??? I would be very grateful for any help, thanks in advance.
