Lenovo R400 - Base System Device/PCI Simple Communications Controller?

Q: Lenovo R400 - Base System Device/PCI Simple Communications Controller?

I've recently updated my old laptop to a 64-bit Windows 10 system. And it runs and works fine. However, I'm getting these three listed items without a driver in the device manager. I've Googled a lot, but not found anything that works. Any solutions? And has anyone else the same/similar issue with their Lenovo R400 or Lenovo laptop?

Hello.I just reinstalled windows 7 32 bit on my compaq dc5800 and in the device manager said the pci simple communications controller needs a driver. This is the id code:PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29D4&SUBSYS_281E103C&REV_02PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29D4&SUBSYS_281E103CPCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29D4&CC_078000PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29D4&CC_0780 Wired internet via ethernet is also not working, I updated the intel 82566dm-2 drivers but that did not work.

Hi: You need this driver for the PCI Simple Comms Controller... For the ethernet, the only suggestion I can offer would be to try the driver directly from Intel. The first driver on the list is for 32 bit.

Since you are looking for a hardware driver for a Dell laptop, the most logical place to go is to the Dell website and download the drivers:
You will find the drivers for the PCI Simple Communications Controller undert the Communications tab!
Dell also has forums for their hardware: which is the proper place to go for support of Dell hardware. Please remember to click ?Mark as Answer? on the post that helps you, and to click ?Unmark as Answer? if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi there, this is my first post on the forum as I found this site while browsing on my iPod. Now why would I have to use my iPod when I have a beautiful new computer sitting in front of me? Well as the title says. I have no controllers, ergo, no Internet.

I bought it second hand, absolutely nothing wrong with it, I think he just might of went too far when he wiped it before giving it to me.

So, I came here hoping you guys could rescue me... I'm looking for the driver(s) I need, and I'm also wondering how I can manage to download them to my com if it's not online. I have;

System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd
System Model: H55M-S2
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit (6.1 build 7600)
Processor: Intel Core i3 CPU 540 @ 3.07ghz (4 CPUs)
BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG

I'm hoping that's all good, I read it all of my DxDiag. Thanks In advance for the help!

A:Missing Ethernet controller and PCI simple communications controller

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums!

I found all the drivers at the Gigabyte website for Windows 7 64 bit including the ethernet controller. If you have access to another machine you could copy any drivers you need onto a USB flash drive then copy them to your machine.

Hey Guys,

Just installed Windows 7 Ultimate on a 2 year old machine, and I have no sound. The only driver that is missing is the PCI Simple Communications Controller, and I can't seem to find it anywhere.

I'm running the

Intel G965 motherboard 1066MHz FSB, Core 2 Duo E6300 Processor, 3GB DDR2, 400GB Sata II HD.

I have read around the forums here and can't seem to find the answer.

Anyone help?

Hi there, run windows update and look for the "optional updates" on the left. You will probably see a sound driver. Install that and should be all good.

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit
Intel Core Duo E6750
8 gb ram

Motherboard: Gigabyte 965P-DS3
Nvidia 8800GT

So in a feeble attempt to try and get my USB game controllers and mouse to work again after using a Dynex USB hub on them (and likely destroying them completely :'( ) I went into the Device Manager to try and figure out the problem.

I couldn't get my controllers to work on any computer, but thankfully the USB ports still work.

And then I see in the Device Manager, under "Other Devices,"

"(!) PCI Simple Communications Controller."

Device Type: Other Devices.
Manufacturer: Unknown.
Location: PCI bus 0, device 3, function 0

Device Status:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.
To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

I try to update the driver.
Can't find it online.

I try to manually find a file, whatever it may be.
The location that appears by default... C:\Program Files (x86)\Marvell\Miniport Driver\

.... but it cannot find anything.

Driver Details: No driver files have been installed or are required for this device.

Details: Description (none)

Value: PCI Simple Communications Controller

Have you tried going to the Gateway site Gateway Support - Drivers, Software and Firmware Updates And entering your serial # in order to find drivers for your system? The number is usualy located next to the Genuine Windows OS sticker on the rear of your tower, or bottom of your laptop. Unless this is an add on card you installed yourself or had installed. In that case we will need to know the manufacturer and model number of the controller. You can also try going to device manager.clicking on the controller>update driver>and have windows search for one. If Gateway doesn't have a windows seven driver a 64bit Vista driver might work in compatiblility mode Fabe Compatibility Mode

In Device Manager it shows up as a hardware that has no drivers.
I searched on Google and Windows Update, but no drivers are there.
I also searched on my Dell drivers discs, but there's nothing there for PCI devices.
I was thinking maybe it was the Chipset driver, so I installed that, but apparently that wasn't the fix.

Anyone know where to find a driver or fix for this thing?

A:What is the PCI Simple Communications Controller?

Sounds like a device windows couldn't properly identify. Does that laptop have a dial up modem in it? If yes does it show up correctly in device manager. If not install the drivers for it and see if that removes the PCI simple communications device entry. It could also be something else that hasn't had its driver installed. Onboard NIC, wifi, or maybe bluetooth. I'm just guessing at the moment. If you look at the properties for that device you may be able to find a hardware id number that you could Google to better nail it down.

I just got big time help on one problem, so thought I would attack another problem (which may be related). I'll keep the explanation simple in the hopes that someone will recognize what needs to be done.

On startup I always get a note about hardware found, but not related software (this has happened since ME to XP several years ago. Other notes indicate ( I think) that the problems is driver for the "PCI simple communications controller".

When I go thru SYS MGMT \ DEVICE DRIVER \ OTHER DEVICES I find yellow question marks on PARALLEL DEVICES , PCI DEVICE AND PCI SIMPLE COMM CONTROLLER. The paralled device seems to be looking for HPFECB12.SYS (H-P ? - my scanner seems OK).

Where would I go from here ?? Thanks.

Those devices are part of the "Remote Management" feature -- a centralized system-administrator on a corporate network can access the computer, and make updates. Have you run the "HP Support Assistant"?It should find the missing 'AMT' device-drivers. Of course, if you are the only "administrator", you do not need to install that support -- your computer will work fine without it.

I suddenly get messages telling me on start up that new hard ware has been found. I am then told to install drivers for it. In the device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark next to this PCI device. Can I simply disable this? I can't even find out what this is.  Thanks

A:pci simple communications controller

It's normally a dial-up modem. If there's a dial-up port integrated on the system mainboard but it has not been being used, it might just have become enabled somehow in the BIOS. If this is the case, and you do not use dial-up, you could go into the BIOS setup screen (there's usually directions on screen at boot up), and disable the on-board modem. The OS will then no longer find the hardware. Disabling the device in Device Manager is an alternative.
One reason for new hardware suddenly being found is if the CMOS backup battery has gone flat and the BIOS settings have been lost and reverted to default. If you have noticed any other hints such as the clock being wrong, it might be a good idea to replace the backup battery. Usually it is a lithium button cell (commonly CR20320 located in a holder on the mainboard.

Open Device Manager and right click on the unknown "PCI Simple Communication Controller" or "Unknown Device" then click Properties, then the Details tab.

In a box below Device Instance ID you should see a text string similar to PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3059&SUBSYS_18931019&REV_60.

It's probably your modem. Right click PCI Simple Communications Controller in Device Manager. Select Properties and under the Details tab select Hardware ID's in the dropdown box. Copy and Paste the first line in your next post.

Windows XP SP2

Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager->Other->PCI Simple Communications Controller shows Code 28. The 2 CDROM drives attached to PCI1 are not recognized and their drivers show not installed. The 2 hard drives attached to PCI0 work fine.

This, of course, used to work. Must have been bad for a while since System Restore doesn't save enough restore points to go back and correct. I use the CDROM drives rarely.

Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn shows the CDROM drives so not a hardware problem.

Help! Thanks, in advance.

Hello Everyone.

I installed Windows 7 build 7227 3 days ago and have encountered 2 problems.

My Specs are:
Intel DP35DP MB
Quad core Q8200 2.33GHZ CPU
2x1Gb HyperX Kingston RAM
EZCool 1200w PSU
XFX GTX 295 Graphics card

1st problem:
My MB Management Engine Interface Drivers are incompatible and even when I try to run them in compatibility mode they still do not work.

2nd Problem:
The new OS is not picking up one of my WD 1Tb HDD. It shows in the bios, and it shows in the device manager but nowhere else. I think that this may have something to do with the fact that there is no PCI simple communications controller installed, and I cannot find that anywhere.

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me with these issues.

Two exceptions in Device Manager -

PCI Simple Communications Controller

From reading the other threads, this may be modem related?

I've tried to repair it, obviously with no positive results.

Any thoughts? Should I try to download HPs Vista drivers and see if they work?

A:Another PCI Simple Communications controller issue

Yup - get all the drivers for Vista from HP and see if there is a set of Chipset drivers and / or modem drivers (assuming you have an integrated modem).

Might also apply to BlueTooth and / or wireless drivers, too....

Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager shows the little yellow question mark for the PCI Simple Communications Controller. Update Driver->Install Automatically fails. As a result, I have no CDrom drives. Device Manager shows Code 39 for the CDROM drives attached to this bus. The other PCI bus has both hard drives and works fine.

The box is a 5 year old Dell Dimension 2400 running Windoze XP SP2. This, of course, used to work. System Restore doesn't go back far enough to correct the problem. It seems like the same driver should handle both buses but apparently not. I've searched both the Microsoft and the the Dell sites for something as simple as some knowledge base thing to help out and/or downloading a new driver and can't find anything helpful.

What am I missing?

Thanks in advance, Dave

A:PCI Simple Communications Controller Driver Problem

Simple Communications Controller is a class of device, so it's not possible to identify a driver from this. All the necessary drivers for the internal system components should be available from the ASUS support website.

The same device class can also include virtual drivers that implement serial streaming protocols. One way you may be able to identify the device is to go to Properties\Details for that device in Device Manager, and note the device id, eg PCI/VEN_8086&DEV_27D8&SUBSYS. Then enter the four digit VEN and DEV numbers into and see if it identifies the device.

Dell Dimension 1100/B110 desktop pc. Was XP but now with Home Premium 32-bit installed via Microsoft recommended "custom" installation. "windows.old" folder still on C drive. I have not performed the "Windows Easy Transfer" of files. EVERYTHING appears to be working exactly as advertised yet I have this yellow exclamation mark. Dell website does not support Windows 7 on this PC. Microsoft Windows Update utility reported that 32-bit Windows 7 was acceptable to be installed but not 64-bit. Installed Windows 7 because of the impending end of support by Microsoft. The Dell motherboard is 0WF887 according to Belarc. Printer is working normally. Wireless is OK. Wired is OK. Audio is OK. Video is OK -- I am NOT using the motherboard VGA video output - I am using the VGA output on a card that was added before I acquired the PC. Maybe the card came from Dell with this video card already installed but the Dell support website does not show that is true for my Service Tag number. The installed card also has an unused DVI output.

Hi there!

Well, I've more or less worked my way into a pickle that I haven't the first idea on how I did it. I've recently just formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate on my main 1TB drive and when I booted up and got to my Desktop, I got notices saying that my SMBus Controller and PCI Simple Communications Controller were out of date or just not working correctly. I have absolutely NO idea how to remedy this situation and I'm looking to this forum to see if anyone knows how to help.

Things I've tried:
-Allowing Windows to try to automatically find the drivers (As if...)
-Uninstalling both of the controllerrs from the Device Manager and rebooting as instructed in one of the Dell and Microsoft forums (Nothing happened...)
-I've tried looking up drivers for the devices and haven't found anything.

Now, the only thing to note about this is that I've got a Dell Inspiron 620 (pretty much just put the mobo into an Antec Nine Hundred case). A friend of mine had his computer Blue Screen and I attempted to fix (which worked; just a clean reinstall of Windows 7 and the such) and since then, I've gotten these error messages when I boot in Windows 7 and when I boot in Windows Vista.

Was there something I missed or am I just ridiculous and did something wrong? I appreciate all feedback, considering I'm new to this forum, I understand it may take awhile and I may be posting in the wrong thread, but I just need some help.

If indeed you somehow did . . You can go to the Dell support site, enter your Service Tag Number and download the drivers. Be sure to use IE and do not use the Dell Download Manager!

Just download the driver file, save it to the desktop and double click to install

On the list of drivers, click on the driver file:

Then be sure the "For Single File Download via Browser is selected and click the Download Now button here:

Hi All,

That is message, but I don't know what to do. This is how it came about.

My husband built my CPU which is great when it works and when it doesn't, I have to wait until he "FEELS LIKE IT" to work on in it --- almost 2 months and I am still waiting.

After vacation, I was getting an error message while trying to bring it up and my husband reloaded a couple of corrupted drivers - don't ask me which ones, he was too busy to articulate it. But the problem is now that doesn't recognize my Microsoft Wireless 5000 keyboard and mouse -- it will however work with a wired keyboard, wired mouse, printer, scanner and sound. I replaced the batteries, moved and reset the doggle, deleted and reloaded the drivers from microsoft to get the most current and still doesn't recognize it. I went into troubleshooting hardware from the control panel and the last message I got was "PCI Communications Controller Doesn't have a Driver" --- what do I do? Is this even the problem? And by the way, the husband is now out of the country and I am not waiting on him any longer.

Then there's a pop-up message says that there is a problem installing the hardware drivers. Why is that? I totally freak out. I thought that by downloading the WinXp driver from Motorola's Website there will be no problem installing the modem driver.

"PCI Simple communications Controller" keeps popping up at startup & loading - TWICE. I have uninstalled it numerous times and it (they) keep coming back. I can't get rid of it (them). It (they) keep saying "new hardware detected" and "installing" "please wait..."

I have to click on "cancel" each time TWICE every time the PC boots up.

how can I get rid of it (them)?

It doesn't appear in the list in the "Install / Uninstall programs". I keep deleting (uninstalling) from Device Manager, but next time I start up the PC it's (they're) back again and I have to wait for them to "load" then click on "cancel" each time.

It looks like its the Intel Serial over Lan driver.  Your computer was never tested by Dell for Windows 10, meaning there are no new drivers created by Intel, etc., that may work.  You could google Intel AMT/SOL and see if Intel does have a driver for your chipset that may work.  It looks like Dell stopped supporting your computer at Windows 8.0

Hello people:

I recently underwent a clean install of both Win2k Pro & WinXP Pro. In both instances, the DM is reporting that the 'Multimedia Audio Controller' and the 'PCI Simple Communications Controller' are not correctly recognized (drivers not installed).
I've done some searching online and many people suggest that a dial-up modem is the culprit behind the messages. In fact, there isn't a dial-up modem installed in my system, only a 10/100 NIC which works fine with both Windows native driver and the maker's driver.
I've also searched for the PCI commun. control. drivers online to find that I have nothing to download. I'm not entirely sure what this controller does, although I can most likely find the multimedia audio controller.
It's worth noting that XP is acting flakey sometimes when I use explorer to navigate around directories, and that I was recently unable to install Sisoft's SANDRA diagnostics app. Otherwise, the system seems to be stable enough to use online and for basic text editing.

I had to do a clean install on my eMachine Model T3418. Installed IE8sp3 and all updates. I have tried to connect to our network router, the light is on when I plug into the network port but no connection gets established. Currently using WiFi to connect to internet. My Device Manager is showing yellow question marks for all of the above listed components.
1. PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_02698SUBSYS_60061509&REV_A1\3&2411E6FF&0&AD
2. PCI\VEN_14F1&DEV_2F20&SUBSYS_200114F1&REV_00\48DC268A3&0&3880
3. PCI_VEN_10E&DEV_0264&SUBSYS_60061509&REV_A2\3&2411E6FE&0&51

I know the last is an nVidia driver. I found a software program called Driver Finder that identifies my drivers and will give me the drivers to update and download but not how to do it. Can anyone please help?

A:Missing Pc Bridge Device-PCI Simple Common Controller and missing SM Bus Controller D

Start with downloading and installing the Chipset drivers from here:

Yesterday I had this issue with my Lenovo R400 and I alredy solved but i want to post the solution on this forum for other people.  The ProblemMy laptop entered in hibernation mode and in the morning that i tried to turn it on it didnt. I pushed the power button i see the lights of 1 and A turned on and off twice, but didnt show the boot screen.. The screen was blank doing nothing. Solution 1Disconnect the power cable and battery and push the power button 11 times and in the 11th push the button for 30 seconds. Connect power and push power button. Then you can connect the battery. Solution 2 (The one that helped me)Removed the power cable, the battery and the internal battery of CMOS and let it disconnected all for 15 hours. I dont now the exact time that it have to be disconected but i read a post saying 15, maybe with few hours if enought.  Then you connect the cable and push F1 (until beeps)  and turn on the Laptop to enter in Supervisor Mode to set date and time F10 and exit. Connect the CMOS's battery and normal battery and is all. WARNINGIf you reset the CMOS and the laptop have a Supervisor Password enabled and you dont have it  you will be in big problems. Mine laptop didnt have it. I was luck because i didnt know it. Without the Supervisor password you cant set the date/time and the laptop wont boot again. You will need to change the MotherBoard. Or maybe you can find another solution but wont be easy. So be carefull about... Read more

My PC can;t install drivers and I want to remove the devices, every time I uninstall them, they re-install when I next switch on. It's driving me crazy and they are making my system overheat and shut down, two are called Base System Device and the other is called Coprocessor.

A:Base system device

Please explain exactly what is going on with your system in detail. Is there some specific problem with your system? What exactly are you trying to do and WHY are you trying to do it?

In device manager under 'other' there is a yellow Based System Device. I try to update it and it gives me a error "no driver found". I got to dell and download the Richo chipset. I try to insta1l and I get this this error, "You have to run the 64bit version DPInst.exe on this machine."

So I put one and one together I believe this is causing the Based System Device error.

What do I do?

A:base system device

So you have installed the 64Bit version of the drivers?

Can you provide details of the step 3, in this tut.

Driver selection for your Hardware devices.

Hello, My OS is Windows 10 Pro and when I check the Device Manager I notice there is an device called 'Base system device'  under the 'Other devices' section which has a yellow alert icon on it. I have tried 'Update driver software' Windows option in order to look through Internet for a new driver but it hasn't found anything.  Also I have checked your website for a new/updated driver for this device, but you don't have an option for Windows 10 OS. Therefore, how do you suggest I proceed, please?  Kind regards.

Does the installed OS a 32 or 64-bit architecture? It is likely that the Base system device driver that is missing is the media card reader. Check in the Device Manager to see if there is one installed or not. Your notebook has either a JMicron or an Alcor Micro media card reader.  You can try installing the Windows 8.1 version of the driver in compatibility mode. Use the driver that is present in the driver download  section of the support portal for your notebook. Right click the downloaded Windows 8.1 driver and select troubleshoot compatibility. How to install a driver in compatibility mode

Hi: I do not believe there are Vista or W7 drivers for that card reader. You'll have to try the XP driver from your PC's support and driver page. Try manually installing it if the auto install method doesn't work.

Hi All,

I have a Dell Latitude D800 Notebook and just reloaded Win XP SP3 on the computer. I loaded all the drivers from the Dell site for this dell computer (by service tag number). My device manager still shows that the Base System Device is under other devices.

When I double click on it the device status says: The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) The device type is Other devices. The manufacturer is Unknown. And the location says PCI bus 2, device 1, function 3
Does anyone know where can I download the driver for this device please.

A:Base System Device

Did you also install the smartcard drivers for the laptop? This seems to be a big cause of this, also if your laptop has quicklaunch buttons near the power button they too sometimes require a driver.;fileid=67337^ smartcard driver for D800if those don't do the trick,;fileid=145696these are a bit more up to date

Welcome to seven forums hostalla: At the bottom of this page and any page with similar issues you'll find threads on that issue. Most of the times it is a card reader driver or Richo or Alps touchpad driver. So go to HP site and find your laptop and download drivers for these 2 items(* if not 7 Vista will work in compatibility mode) and it should resolve your issue. Or you can go to device manager>click on the item>click properties>details tab>drop down menu>hardware id and copy and paste the code and we can find the driver for you. Also read the threads with the check mark on them below for more information.Compatibility Mode Good luck Fabe
