Q: Y510P owners, what is your idle CPU and GPU temper...

I feel like my laptop is getting a bit hot these days. I get 57+ C on all CPU cores and around 50C on the GPU.Last I checked the gaming temps could go upto a 97-98C on the GPU. Is this normal?

Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit
Clean installation to windows 7 from Windows XP professional
Hardware 18 months old
OS installed 2 weeks ago

I am currently facing the lovely BSOD error. The computer was recently upgraded from windows XP to Windows 7 enterprise 64bit , this was a fresh installation from XP. The computer originally came with pre installed with Windows 7 installed but was downgraded to XP to meet company IT requirements. We have now been given the go ahead to trial windows 7. However after installation we are now facing issues of very random BSOD moments. Sometimes while using access or excel. At other times the computer could be totally idle. I would like to mention that our IT team upgraded the RAM in the computer from 4gb to 8gb prior to the Windows 7 installation. I do have a feeling that there is an issue with the memory which is causing this issue. I have attached my BSOD zip pack and would be very appreciative if one of the guru's could assist me on the matter.

Thanks

My display turns off (goes to black screen) after 5 minutes idle, even though I have display set to turn off after 30 minutes idle and the computer to sleep after 1 hour idle (this was done under Power Options in the Control Panel). This just started after the last big Microsoft updates were installed 2-3 weeks ago. I can not seem to change this, no matter what my settings are. Both my husband and I installed all the updates, yet his computer is not doing this; he changed all my settings to match his, but my display still turns off after 5 minutes. What's up with this, and how do I get my display to stay on for more than 5 minutes' idle time?

A:Display goes dark after 5 min idle; set to turn off after 30 min idle

This is not a laptop is it ?

Give us the exact make and model of pc.

Check the monitor itself for any sleep settings.

And you set windows to never let the monitor go off, correct ?

I am part of a consultant group designing a training program for gaming.

Our basic training technique requires a gaming CD. We early on decided on Activision's "Gambling Tycoon", one of their "Tycoon" series. "Gambling Tycoon" is one of the earliest versions in the Tycoon series.

We've tried to communicate our desire to license copies of "GT" to include them with our training package. Up to now, we've had absolutely no luck (since August-2003) contacting a live person or get a response from their corporate headquarters.

Can anyone help here? Does anyone know of a comparably inclusive gaming CD that comes close to duplicating "GT"s rich gaming menu?
*Neither "Gambling Tycoon" or drivers for it appear on their (Activision)s website.
**"Gambling Tycoon" can only be found in a few stores on the Internet.
***We will probably need 600 or more legal copies of "GT" by February.
****The "Free" CDs from online Casinos suck- big time.

I'm really interested in buying this machine, the 14" model in particular, but have two questions I desperately need help with and I can't find the information online! 1. This is a specific question, but could anyone please tell me the size of the SD Card slot?I'm hoping to actually get some sort of measurement in centimetres or something here. I know that sounds a bit odd, but perhaps it's possible if you stick a normal SD card in and measure how much went into the machine and how much stayed out? The reason I ask is because I know normal SD Cards will protrude quite a bit on this machine, however I've found these special, smaller adapters and I'm wondering if they would fit flush into the machine so the issue is negated. (https://www.amazon.co.uk/MacBook-MicroSD-Memory-Adapter-Apple/dp/B01I92PFG4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1...) It's an odd request, but it is important and I'd really, really appreciate it. 2. Can the default role of the F1-F12 keys be changed? As far as I can tell,  they are used for shortcuts and if you want to actually use the F keys themselves, such as say Alt+F4 or F11, you also have to hold in Fn. This would drive me nuts! Can it be reversed so they function like normal F1-F12 keys? Perhaps in the BIOS? Thanks for reading and I really hope you can assist me!

I have a Canon DR-1210c scanner and it is great but I have a problem. I have run it for several years on Windows XP and it still is running. I use the latest version of Capture Perfect 3.0.

Now, I have set up a dual boot system with Windows 7 and want to install Capture Perfect 3.0 on it but it will not work unless I first install Capture Perfect 3.0. I have been trying to install it with the latest version which is 3.090 and it will not work.

I cannot find my Capture Perfect 3.0 disk if one was ever sent with the scanner but I am hoping that it was included on an install disk of some kind. If so, I can probably find that somewhere around here.

Capture Perfect 3.0 seems to sell for about $60 but that may not even be version 3.0.

Do anyone here know how Capture Perfect 3.0 was transmitted with the scanner?

I just bought the Canon A300 digicam. I'm surprised that I only got about 10 shots with the included AA battery given the advertisement says it can run for 90 shots. My main concern is the way the camera automatically shuts off when it thinks the power is low. I used freshly-charged Energizer batteries(1850 mah) and after a few minutes the camera tells me power is low and shuts itself off. I immediately turn the camera back on and it will run for a good time before it shuts itself off again. I keep repeating this as I know there's still juice in the battery. I'm wondering if this is a defective camera or do any of you experienced the same thing. I don't know whether to bother returning the camera.

You should check the manual to see if rechargeable batteries are suitable for use with this particular model camera.

There seems to be an issue with a raft of different Samsung computer products being unable to install Win 10 TP.

The issue is exactly the same for all being locked out after 3 seconds at the logo screen trying to install with either USB or DVD installer..... and then if the 'setup.exe' file is opened from within sources folder the process runs through the first stages and after the 'copying files' process it does a restart and arrives at the very same logo screen and again it stops right there with no circle of spinning dots ever appearing, even after waiting 8 hours on one attempt by me....

All machines meet the system requirements which is easily confirmed by installing 8.1. If your machine can run 8.1 then it has the ability to run Win 10 TP.

I believe this has to be BIOS by process of elimination having tried to install on an effectively brand new machine with nothing on it by using a new SSD ( and yes I've tried everything bar programming the source code directly to install this on my machine happily purring away using 8.1)

If you've had this issue with your Samsung computer product please list the full model number and importantly the BIOS manufacturer, version and date which can be found by entering msinfo32.exe into a 'Run' window command to bring up 'System Information' window.
Listed about half way down the summary page that opens in the right hand pane should be BIOS version/date

Only for US residents.
If there are any people still around who use AGP Cards, which happen to be BFG, then you might be in for a free upgrade.

The PCI Express bus type for graphics cards is the standard going forward for all systems and motherboards. In fact, AGP is no longer being supported. If you were to upgrade your system or motherboard now or in the future, you would need a PCI Express graphics card to support that new system, which would improve your overall performance in 3D games and video processing. We’d like to encourage you to trade in your current working AGP BFG graphics card for a BFG PCI Express graphics card. The chart below shows BFG AGP cards and their closest PCI Express equivalent.

Now, for a limited time, if you send us your BFG AGP card in good, working condition, we’ll send you the PCI Express equivalent at no cost to you. If you want to upgrade to an even better performing card, there is a nominal fee to do so. Offer good for U.S. customers only. If you choose to take advantage of this offer, please remember that you would need to upgrade your current AGP-based system to a PCI Express-based system at your expense in order for the new card to work. That means upgrading your motherboard and possibly your CPU (processor).

This offer looks pretty good, albeit you'll most likely need to upgrade your motherboard/cpu if the AGP card is in your main PC, but if you have one lying around spare, you can g... Read more

however when i come out of the game the dpi stays at 2000 , is this normal? I realise its as simple as pressing the buttons to alter the dpi back but surely it should reset after the game is exited?

So, I was having all sorts of problems installing my win 8 upgrade on my new XPS one 27 machine, and spent alot of time on the phone with Dell trying to get this fixed..
Turns out that Microsoft and Dell have set up a dedicated hot line for Dell XPS owners having issues with their install..

Aero is also activated. This is not an integrated card, it is a PCI e slot on this machine. Download the two files. The listdevices file can be copied into the directory and overwrite the existing file. The path is on the second file. The second file you have to cut and past a couple of sections of the NVAM.inf file. I have used these settings for driver ver. 195.62 and 195.81 beta. hey

whenever I flip my mouse (lift it up and give it a turn) twice or leave it 4-5 seconds in this position it stops working.
I have to reconnect the G5 to make it work again. It doesn't respond, not even the buttons react.

OS: XP Media Center Edition, Dell Inspiron 9400 (notebook).

The touchpad is "disabled". Well the driver's process but it's still working.

Is this normal?

Another thing is, I don't do it often, of course, but just out of curiosity, when I lift the G5 and then let it drop (my hand still holding the mouse) and the mouse trembles, the sensitivity changes. It doesn't respond to movement for one, two seconds and then the sens is a different (lower) one.
I need to end 'setpoint.exe' and restart it.

Thanks for reading and hope some of you have a G5 and can tell me if it behaves the same way.

edit
Should the mouse be "damaged" I would like to change it as I only have it two days, if it is a G5 bagatelle then I don't care and can live with it.

try to reinstall the drivers for your mouse and then go to Set Point and check your settings (increase sensitivity or something like that).

Downloaded the public release version of IE7 recently, was rather impressed. Noticed my HP 2210v psc was having problems especially with HP Director. Couldn't open the Director to scan photos or documents.

Was pulling my hair out trying to solve the problem. Tried to uninstall the printer software to do a reinstall, was not able to uninstall.

Searched the web and came across this discussion on the subject:

http://forums.pcworld.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=11223

Seems IE7 has some dll files that aren't compatible with HP software. Uninstalled IE7 and that fixed the problems I was having with my HP printer/scanner.

HP is suppose to come out with a patch to fix this incompatibility, but I won't hold my breath!

Too bad, never thought I'd say it but I kinda liked IE7, but not as well as Firefox version 2.

Wait till Microsoft forces IE7 down our throats come November. Hopefully HP has the patch by then.

Just thought I'd throw this information in here.

As most know, I work at a pawn shop cleaning up bought computers, or those that were lost in pawn, for resale. One of the many things that I do, since I can't reinstall but rather have to work with what comes on the machine, is eliminate all accounts but one administrators account which I typically name "owner." To keep these machines safe from mischievious children and other would-be "messer-upers" on the sales floor, I password protect the screen saver. This also provides an opportunity for the salesperson to get involved. Anyway, when the password window opens, it still has the former owners nameóthe registereróin that window. Isn't there a line in the registry listing that name? Can this be edited in the registry? It's not that big of a deal, but I just prefer to remove anything that would be personal to the previous owner. Thanks!!

A:changing owners in windows xp

Changing the login profile name does not change the folder names, they are locked as part of the XP security.

If you try to change the names using a linux boot CD etc, you will certainly cause Windows to fail (I have seen it happen...).

If the laptop was a display model, the very first thing I would be doing is cleaning it up by reloading Windows from the start, selecting the name you want at that time.

A dvd did not come with this net book..so i bought a pny 16gb attache flash drive. After installing the drive i get a message that i cannot install it cause it is a ntfs. I called Acer and they now tell me that the os can not be put on a flash drive, only on a dvd burner despite what the user guide says. They are sending me a cd of the os , so now i have to buy an external burner if i ever need to install it again. How have u guys managed this?

Hello all,
I am an owner of a brand new Dell XPS 8700 with an i7 4970 CPU.Out of the box this computer is pretty darn quick but I wanted just a bit more in a smaller form factor.I have a GTX 980 and an i7 4790k CPU from another machine and wanted to see if this machine would support the upgrade without gutting it.I also took a stab at adding an ASETEK 545LC (92mm) cooler to the mix to keep things in check.Last but not least, I also added a 250GB Samsung mSATA card. Early reports indicated you needed the extreme edition to see beyond 32GB cards (???)
I searched high and low on the interwebs and didnt get much in returns of success.
So for those of you looking to squeeze a bit more out of your machines without upgrading PSU, motherboard...then I hope this helps.
-Upgraded to i7 4790k (10% increase over the stock 4790)-GTX 980 (using stock 460w PSU)-Added 92mm liquid cooling (Asetek 545LC - $97 on ebay)-Replaced 92mm chassis fan with CoolerMaster 92mm 4-pin PWM fan.-Added 250GB mSATA drive.
Notes:
- Stress testing CPU returns temp of 68C.-CPU pump runs off the 3pin chassis fan header and the rear fan is driven from the 4pin CPU fan.-Upon putting the 4790k in, BIOS  (A11) now has a similar OC feature like alienware OC lvl 1, OC lvl2.
Photos below. Feel free to msg me with questions.

I'm running Windows XP Pro, SP2 as a single user system. I am the administrator and only user, using my full name as login. When I open C:\Documents and Settings, besides a directory with my name, there are 8 other ones, including my first name, "owner", "guest", "all users", etc. Moreover, to add to the confusion, most of my stuff is in the "owner" subdirectory. Can I just copy all the files in the superfluous subdirectories (and delete them) to my administrator directory without causing problems? I guess "guest would not be superfluous, assuming I created a guest account.

To set the stage:
I am a new user of XP home which came pre-installed on my new desktop to which I installed my Office 97 (including Word). I've noticed a peculiar behavior.

Early on, in playing around with the system, I changed my original user name to something else. I mention this because it may explain the following peculiar behavior:

When I click on a Word email attachment sent to me by a friend, it opens in Word - but with a message that says "this file is in use by (MY original user name). Do you wish to make a copy" I say no and it then allows me to proceed. The behavior is rather annoying and I suspect is related to my user name change on the system with Outlook Express still being attached to me original user nam. How do I correct?

I've searched for where to find who own which files but cannot find it in my XP home. Maybe that is only available in XP Pro.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Guys,

For those of you with new computers who received them over the holidays, you may notice a "Help And Support" option on your Start Menu, which will bring up the Support Center. (My computer also has a direct Support Center Link) The left side is Microsoft help, the right side is Dell Support with about 5 or 6 links that are supposed to take you to the appropriate website. Note that there are about 2 or three of the links that don't work from inside the Support Center. They are those links just below the Dell Support link on the right side which works fine. If you click on the link that doesn't work, your machine will lock up and you will have to bring up the Windows Device Manager (CTRL+Alt+ Delete) and End Task those options.

Those links may be outdated or the version of the software itself may be old. You can still get to all of them by going to the "Solution Center" on your desktop or the "Dell Support" icon, which should be on your desktop as well.

With XP, it is often better to go directly to Dell's website to get the information that you need rather than doing it from within some of those internal help menus. A lot of connections and device drivers that integrate with those help menus have changed. A lot of times, big companies don't bother to update that information in some of those help menus that are integrated with the OS. If you want help, go directly to the manufacturer's website. Make sure that if you... Read more

Hi there
I have recently found that my external hard drive has had an issue with Permissions. my user account is set as administrator, so i should have full access to modify/change/delete files as i wish. Unfortunately im getting problems like "you do not have access" or "you do not have permission to perform this action" when i go to say; delete a folder.
Now it doesnt appear to be all folders on the drive with this issue, although a lot of the folders that do have this problem were copied over from another computer recently.
I have found owners on the permissions list with names like:
S-1-5-21-995445890-2241885707-1888917028-1000

Which gives no description or point of origin to where its come from.

I can change ownership of the entire drive, but i have access denied warnings for a lot of files/folders, so that doesnt really help in the end.

Could someone please help shed some light on whats going on, how it may of happened and definitely the most important how i can fix it

greatly appreciated

A:Issue regarding Permissions, owners and ownership

Go to the folder and right click, go to properties. Next go to the Security tab, Advanced button, Permissions. Make sure that everything says Full control. Go back to Security and click edit, make sure everything in there is allowed. If it asks you to run as admin say yes.

My friend just got a DVI monitor a while back and has decided to hook up his 9800 pro to it. That works just fine (just being connected) but he is unable to play any games on it, at least Direct3D ones.

His card is an H.I.S. card which can be found here:
http://www.hisdigital.com/html/product_ov.php?id=90&view=yes

I guess, what I'm curious about (and I know my friend is, too) is a 9800 pro (or other ATi chipsets, for that matter) unable to do D3D over DVI, or is it just the card manufacturer having a bum design? My friend did contact H.I.S. and they told him that DVI is unable to do D3D (yet, oddly enough, it can on my nVidia 6600gt) and I highly doubt ATi would do something like that.

So, does it sound like an ATi problem, and my friend should move on to an nVidia card, or does it just sound like an H.I.S. crap-ufacturer mishap?

*edited for those who got hung up on the first six words and couldn't read past it. I'm helping us all out.

Greetings.I have very little to nil-existent knowledge in the inner or core system files needed to run Windows 7 successfully, yet from what I've gathered thus far using search engines, it seems for my new Dell computer, all of these "Unknown Owners" and missing files attached to them cannot be good. What immediately stood out to me is the (ALG) alg.exe, unknown owner, missing file combo. I've read it could be just the normal App Layer Gateway thingy, yet a known virus also masks (or overwrites) this file and you then have a nasty just waiting to get passed over by most anti-virus scanners and hide there in your system until the time it begins working its eventual destruction.Looking at the sheer number of Unknown Owners and Missing Files...what could be going on here? Also worrisome is the lsass.exe (file missing), or is that normal?Your thoughts and expert input is much appreciated, thank you.***********************************************Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 8:04:27 PM, on 1/14/2010Platform: Unknown Windows (WinNT 6.01.3504)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8...)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell DataSafe Online\DataSafeOnline.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\PowerDVD DX\PDVDDXSrv.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exeR1 - HKCU\Software... If any of you are having a problem when you're playing with the screen going black, but the sound continues playing (so you know that the system hasn't crashed or suffered a fatal error), or maybe you get an error that says "VPU Recovery" I've found a solution that may work for you.

All you need to do is to go into your display properties, click on Options, and check the "Reduce DVI Frequency on High Resolution Displays" box. This allows the graphic card to keep things in check at high resolutions, and there's a much lower chance of a display freeze.

I used it with True Crime, which was continually freezing and it couldn't be working any better. No visual spearing or lag in the framerate. I haven't yet tested it when running other games, but I'll do that and get back to you all.

I apologise if this has already been posted, I just thought it may be the solution to some of your problems.

hi,

I am very interested to buy the network adaptor for the ps2 but have a few questions regarding it. I know I need broadband connection (512) which I do have, I need the network adaptor and ps2 ethernet cable and a memory card. The ethernet cable dpoes come with the network adaptor but the adsl modem is about 8 meters away from the ps2. Also i was wondering does the ethernet cable have to join into the modem because my modem only has one slot for a cable to go into and how else would it get a connection to a phone. I noticed on pictures of the network adaptor it has 2 slots can a ethernet cable from my computer go into one and a phone line into the other? i also have a mod chip and was wondering from people who have this network adaptor does it still work online?

Any help or advice for this would be greatly appreciated

thanks in advance.

OK so my laptop stop charging and it , we have found that it is not the ac adaptor but rather the dc power jack , I have found a repair shop in town that claims they can fix the problem but will cost me 250 bones.
while Iím a smart enough guy and know a few guys in town that know there stuff when it comes to this type of thing I seems to be in a bind .
Every electronic shop I have been to locally and online says they do not have the dc power jack nor can they get it. all but one but I shall get to that too soon enough.
One guy I spoke with said the dc jack I'm looking for is a restricted part so he has made up a conversion kit that changes the ac adaptor and the jack on the mother board. not a problem he wants 49.00 US for that Plus shipping to Canada. still not bad , considering the cost of a new motherboard via dell or online somewhere.
I got an email today from an online dealer with a part that may work, but Iím not really sure if it's the right one or not .
Here is the part that he wanted me to look at
http://www.newark.com/NewarkWebCommerce/newark/en_US/endecaSearch/partDetail.jsp?SKU=84N1191&N=0
My laptop is a dell inspiron 1150 with the round style plug,
now I know there has been a lot of people that have had the same problem but not so many that have come out and said they fixed it and how.

if some one knows dell's spec's on the dc power jack and can check I would be happy as ...

Hello to all - I am using the Asus P5B-E motherboard. I purchased a card reader with front USB, and I need to know which plug on the motherboard to hook it up to. The manual isn't all that clear on this, and there are a couple of slots that would take the plug. Having read elsewhere that if this is done incorrectly, one burns out all the USB capability, I thought I'd check here to see what others have done. The cable from my front USB Card reader unit has pins like :::. on it.

If you can help out,
Thanks!
Mini.

A:Solved: P5B-E owners, how to front usb/cardreader?

You probably have USB 1 and USB 2 motherboard pin outs. If you look close you may even see them labeled as such. It doesn't matter which one you use and since you have an "all in one" attachment plug, connection is very straightforward, just match the pins up to the holes and press it gently down onto the pins, never forcing it of course.

The short out problem is more for older systems where instead of the unified plug, all the indivudual USB data and electical lines all had to be plugged onto the correct pin, one at a time, making it easy to mess up and short out the bus controller.

this is completely unrelated to W7, but I'm desperate in need of advice.

for our home owners association we want to do better billing/accounting. currently we jsut use an Excel spreadsheet to keep up with payments. but that has its problems as we had some changes in treasurer and never really know who paid.

Any recommendations of a software? We also pay for one if it works well. We have 310 lots. there are several owner changes every year.

We already have a website, so we don't need one of the services that comes with a website. Ideally we don't have a web based solution, we rather have the data physically here. I'm not sure if one of the financial software would do the job.

any advice? Thanks.

i agree, your question is not really related to Win 7, but I have a friend, who has her own small business. She is the salesman, accountant, marketing dept. She knows very little about accounting and bookeeping. However she uses Quick Books. She is very happy with it. Takes care of the billing, accounting, and everything else. She takes the documents, at the end of the year, and her accountant does the taxes. I suugest that you, keep Quick Books in mind when you make the final decision.

We had the same thing happen with 8, here an example of what I mean...

Electronic Arts

One of the biggest game distributers on the planet has still to update some of their websites for IE9

Logging into EA - IE9

Logging into EA - Chrome

As you can see, IE9 cannot format the page correctly and needs to be in Compatability Mode in order to view it correctly. Chrome on the other hand, no issues at all.

Another thing is the rendering that IE9 uses. Although, compared to IE8, is faster and looks better it just cannot handle large amounts of information (espetially flash content).

I put together another thread highlighting extreme CPU usage while using a certain site, facebook...

Facebook, a resource hog...

I like IE9, looks & feel, but the fact that I have Chrome installed just to handle flash content is just silly. You'll see by my system spect that my machine should be able to handle anything a website can throw at it

Here's hoping that when the final public release hits completion they sort out the performane issues or else it's going to be a dark day for IE fans.

A:IE9 - Website owners just wont be ready

There is nothing that the IE team needs to "sort out", you said it yourself that "the website owners just aren't ready". IE is not to be at fault for that, especially if it works just fine with websites that ARE made to be viewed by IE9, or just generally new!

I'm shopping Thinkpads and am between the P50s and the P50. Leaning toward the P50s primarily for battery life with a secondary consideration for weight, and I don't really need the extra oomph or expense of the P50 for what it's going to be used for. Just before last weekend I had the chance to briefly use a P50s. At the end of my short time with it I thought to check how well it managed thermals/how loud the fans got/how hot the chassis would get. So I loaded up Prime95 while monitoring everything with HWiNFO. The 6500u in the machine would hit around 2.9ghz for all about 5-10 seconds before dropping. Being a 15w chip this was actually expected to me, but I figured it would drop down to it's base clock of 2.5ghz and stay there. Instead I witnessed it plummet straight down to 1.7ghz; and there it stayed. The max recorded temperature was only 58 degrees. Is this a fluke of some sort? I tried changing any power options that would affect it. I tried it while running off battery and off the wall. Nothing I did changed the results. Sadly I don't have access to it anymore to try any suggestions anyone might have, but would anyone have any ideas as to why I was witnessing this behavior? Does anyone here have a P50s that can hold me and tell me it's fine and I won't encounter this issue if I buy one?

I have Atheros? L1E Gigabit LAN controller featuring AI NET 2 on a P5Q pro turbo motherboard and have tried driver versions 1.0.0.15, 1.0.0.16 and 1.0.0.18 versions of the Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI ethernet controller. The driver version on the MB CD is 1.0.0.16.

I have downloaded this package from this site Drivers Informer: Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E Ethernet Controller overview Which says Win7 should be 1.0.0.49 but when I installed it, it only installed 1.0.0.18. It gave no option which one to install. I cant seem to install .49 version. Funny thing is version .18 isn't even listed in the above link.

NDIS 6.20 is the worst latency offender. Can I safely put NDIS 6.30 or 6.40 on Windows 7x64?

I have tried disabling LAN, video and sound in the device manager as well as a backup Logitech BT mouse driver.

I have 2 video card slots on my MB each with a card. I swapped the card positions around in case something was conflicting. According to How to Detect an IRQ Conflict | eHow I have no conflicting devices and no yellow exclamations.

First, this really belongs in another forum section. Audio may be affected but its more some system or driver problem.

However, on the sound side, looking at the Device Manager listing, I don't really see a true hardware driver for your PC sound. I see ATI High Definition and NVIDIA High Definition but those are most likely HDMI audio drivers, not PC sound drivers. VIA, according to what I find on the ASUS site is the correct on-board audio.

Another Item I see is a wireless adapter. Wi-Fi is a know cause of audio dropout. Disable that or even unplug it if you are not using Wi-Fi. If you are using Wi-Fi, stop and use a wired LAN connection.

The so called driver sites do not always have the latest or even correct drivers. Best to use the ones from the motherboard vendor, or in the case of Intel devices direct from Intel.

Finally, download and run the free Resplendence Latency Mon program. It is much more than the limited DPC Latency Checker program.

"A Microsoft Office 2003 bug is locking people out of their own files, specifically those protected with Microsoft's Rights Management Service. Microsoft has a TechNet bulletin on the issue with a fix. It looks like they screwed up and let a certificate expire. There's no information on when the replacement certificate will expire, though, or what will happen when it does."

SQL Server buffer overflow worm rapidly spreading across the Internet. The worm only affects SQL Server 2000 with SP2 or lower. Patching SQL Server 2000 to SP3 makes the server immune to attack. Besides impacting SQL Serves 2000 machines prior to SP3, the worm carries no malicious code and is not thereby detected by Anti-Virus software. Patch your SQL Server 2000 machines as soon as possible to prevent the attack.

QUICK REMEDY
(1) If you have opened port 1434 for SQL server communications, close it.
(2) Download the SQL Server SP3 patch from Microsoft and reboot the server.

I have a workgroup set up with four XP workstations. Workstation A has a local printer that is shared. When printing to it from any of the other workstations (e.g., Workstation B), the print job owner is listed as "Guest". This is the case even if I'm logged on Workstation B with an account name and password that matches my account name and password on Workstation A.

Is there a way to have the account name from Workstation B show up as the print job owner, instead of it saying "Guest"?

Thanks.

A:Identifying print job owners on a shared printer XP SP2

Is the Guest account enabled on the computer with the shared resource. Just taking stab in the dark. Probably not the problem.

FYI
I got an Inspiron 11 3147 as a warranty replacement for a 3137.
First thing I always do is wipe the hard drive and install Windows 7 due to a huge dislike of 8.
However, while trying to Install Win 7, I get a BSOD indicating "BIOS is not ACPI compatible."  This is a common error on systems that are made for Win 8, when you try to install Win 7.
Anyway,it seems Dell has locked the BIOS (A3) so that this cannot happen.  The usual way to change the BIOS settings to Install 7 on a system sold with 8 is, - change BIOS setting for UEFI boot to legacy boot ; and - disable secure boot.  This has worked on all my former Dell laptops (including the 3137) but not this one. I've done additional troubleshooting such as changing drive type to ATA, etc with no luck.  The Windows 7 image I use is a Dell OEM image that worked on my 3137 just fine. All the info I've found online pertains to changing the BIOS settings, which I've done, and possibly a faulty Windows 7 image, which I know is not the case here.
So basically, don''t expect to install Win 7 on an Inspiron 11 3147. Unfortunately for me, I won't use Win 8, so that means returning my new replacement system and keeping my 3137 with an erratic touch pad.
I'm not a fan of any company that prevents power users from changing settings. And while the folks at Dell have been great to deal with, between this and the 3 defective replacements I had up to this point, I'm done.

A:FYI for any Inspiron 11 3147 owners wanting to install Win 7

After reading the post above, please can anyone verify that the 3147 truly CANNOT run Windows 7? I have some programs that need Win 7, and I don't want to set up a virtual machine (not sure if that will work on 3147 if it won't install Win 7 anyway). Any info on installing Win 7 on this 3147 will be very helpful. Thanks!

If you own and have used a Microsoft TrackBall Optical mouse, have you had problems with the ball sticking? Have you also had problems with the software?

I can use the mouse for a while and it may work fine, then all of a sudden I find a hard spot when trying to turn the ball. I clean the thing, clean my hands, do everything I think would cause the problem, but no luck. I've had two and both do the same. I'm about to check out the third one.

I also have problems when I assign the buttons in a specific program like Word. Sometimes I click the left button, which is the normal left click, and the scroll wheel will turn one click, highlighting a half page. Sometimes when I'm on the desktop, I left click and the right click menu comes up.

What I'm wanting to know is, are there others experiencing the same or other problems. If so and you have found solutions, please post them.

Thanks.

If you are an owner of a D-link product with hardware/firmware problems that are still unresolved despite all your efforts to have them resolve them or if you have recently upgraded your firmware only to have your router become useless or not perform as advertised. Immediately follow the instructions below and wait for more details on a website that is being developed now to assist you with these problems.

In the meantime...you need to do the following immediately.

1). File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau at www.bbb.org (this will get an immediate response from Dlink and replacement of your router - at least for now)

2). File a complaint with the California Department of Consumer Affairs.

3). File a complaint with YOUR state's consumer affairs

4.) File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.

5.) File a complaint with Rippoffreport.com

You may use the complaint text for each one (that way it saves you loads of time). Also save your paperwork and all emails, conversations, phone records...everything! Do NOT dispose of, sell, trade or otherwise let the hardware go as this may become valuable evidence for authorities.

Your warranty status does NOT matter. Facts are if the firmware update that D-Link provided caused the damage they are liable to fix and/or repair the damage in a reasonable period of time. Almost 3 months is not reasonable.

More on the self help website will be announced shortly. In the meantime you need to immediately file... Read more

I spend a lot of time using photoshop and dreamweaver. is 14" too small for production work?

Am I missing anything if I dont go for a 17" laptop, besides the obvious weight decrease?

I play some games every so often. SC II, Rift.

budget=1800.00usd. Doesn't have to max out my budget but it has to look good and do the things I need.

Please don't include anything made by apple

In my personal experience with Dell Inspiron E1505 ( 6400 ), it was so horrible that it kept killing my first, second and third power adapter for the laptop. Dell aren't that bad, except they're notoriously ignoring on improving the life of the power adapters, let alone of customers buying the $25 - $80 for new adapter once in every 3 - 6 months.

I do used the photoshop and lots of frontpage on that laptop, and i know for surely doing these things on 14" will be little too small for me. Have you considered Lenovo's or Toshiba? They're very solid and very reliable laptops than anything I touched in the past.

I don't have a problem, but wanted to share an experience I had while doing a clean install of Windows 7. I have a three year old Gigabyte motherboard with both PATA and SATA connections and have my primary drive on the SATA connection with a small PATA drive I use for data backups.
I recently did a clean install of Win7 on my dual boot system which turned out fine in the end, but the journey there was a little scary. C: and G: hosted dual XP installs, but I wanted to clean install Win7 on C: and keep XP on G: So I booted from the W7 install disc, wiped out C:, and proceeded to the screen that allows me to select the install partition. Only, the C: partition wasn't available for installation.

Crap, I just wiped my system partition with the bootloader and now its telling me I can't use that partition to install!? What!?

OK, calm down, there is a perfectly good explanation. Reboot with the W7 disc and go through the install process again, it will be fine. Maybe it was just a dirty spot on the DVD that it couldn't read...

Nope, disc is fine.

Alright, boot from the DVD again, maybe it was just a glitch, these things happen you know. OK, now all I have to do I select my install parti---

Where the crap is my C: partition!?!?!?

Wait a minute here, this was a perfectly working computer system just a few minutes ago, and now it is an expensive doorstop. All I did was wipe C: like I’ve done many times before and now I can’t access the freaking drive??

Ok, I have a game folder from an XP machine that was created by users with admin access, and possibly part of it from Administrator (on that machine).

I think I have two different SYSTEM, etc., owners on my system now.

Because of too many permission problems to elaborate on, and too much futzing around, can I easily (should I?) from every folder and subfolder:

1. Remove the XP generated owners (they're listed in this order):Authenticated Users
SYSTEM
Administrators
Users
2. Then replace them with my (win7/64Ult) machine's owners:Authenticated Users
SYSTEM
Administrators
Users
3. (Making sure that the permissions are inherited from parent of course).
I looked at the tutorials here, and I've tried many things, but am still confused as to whether I should

1. Do this from the folder->properties windows
or
2. Use some combination of secedit or cacls

A friend of mine from another forum just posted this:

A warning for anyone looking to buy a new Sony laptop. I spent six hours today with Sony's online chat and phone support only to find out I discovered a major bug in the latest Sony VAIO.

The new model is VPC-EE23FX/T. I got it at Walmart last night for my boss who just trashed his old Sony. Because of some sort of bug in Sony's recovery wizard this model can not be customized. In my case I uninstalled office 2010 but when restarting the recovery wizard pops up and forces a recovery wiping out changes I had made. Sony couldn't say what other changes may trigger the recovery wizard and wipe out user data. Until this problem can be fixed suggest avoiding this model.Click to expand...

Has anyone else who owns this model experienced this?

Samsung Windows Laptop Owners Urged To Download Fix To MitM Vulnerability

Samsung laptop owners are being urged to update their Windows PCs after the discovery of a vulnerability that can allow remote attackers to download files onto a targeted system and gain complete control over the laptop.
The flaw is tied to a feature called “Samsung SW Update Tool 2.2.5.16” designed keep Samsung laptop users’ drivers and software up to date. Security researchers at Core Security discovered the vulnerability in November 2015 and disclosed the flaw March 4 after Samsung issued the patch to fix the problem.

Hi, I have a risk register which has action by dates for owners of that particular risk. I would like to set up a VBA code that automatically sends each owner an email reminder, through outlook, 5 days before the action date. One owner may have multiple risks due on the same date so I would like the code to send 1 email detailing all the item numbers that the owner has to look at (however this is not at the top of my requirements if it causes issues). I would like the email to include the "Number" (Col. A) in the body listing which risks the owner should look at along with a message reminding them that the action by date is near. Also i want this to be automated, I want the code to run once and send emails as time goes on. Also i will need to change the action by dates as new information is available, can the code account for this change and send another email when the new action by date is near? Thanks for your help I really appreciate it. Using excel 2010

Is it possible to overclock the GPU and CPU a lil' bit in my y510p ?? If yes, could you please tell me how much can i boost it up and if it's worth it though...?

Solved!
Go to Solution.

A:Overclocking GPU and CPU in y510p

If you use the Intel Xtreme Tuning utility you can adjust the multipliers but that is all. The CPU already runs way to hot (and throttles as a result) so overclocking it will only make it worse. I did the opposite and undervolted mine so not only does it run cooler but it doesn't throttle anymore so it actually runs faster then a stock one.
