Hello maggie75. I understand that you're having some problems with your microphone. You should try recording audio in another application so that you can determine whether this is an issue with the application or the microphone. Try the following.Click Start, type "sound recorder," and press Enter. This opens the Sound Recorder application.Attempt to record sound.Verify whether or not you hear sound.Post the result.Also. you may need to update some software. If this is the case it will be helpful to have your product number. This document can show you where it is located for me.I will await the result of this. I hope you have a great day!

I had this same problem with Vista.

I have a Compaq V3018CL, and I have downloaded all the drivers from the Compaq website, but the Microphone only works in XP.

It's a Conexant High Definition Smart Audio H2 sound card.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

I called Compaq and they told me some ridiculous cost to talk to them, because my warranty ended on Oct 15 08

Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone, So today I recieved my laptop back from repairs, I had a faulty Wifi adapter and they fixed this by completely replacing the motherboard and the wifi adapter and wiping my data. Now while that is a minor inconvenience, the bigger problem is that my internal microphone does not work at all.Windows shows it working, but it does not pick up sound at all, not in settings, not in skype and not after reinstalling my complete OS, now this sounds like they did not connect the microphone when replacing my MB.  I do not want to send my laptop back, so does anyone here know how to fix the mic without having to send it back, I tried every single software solution for my microphone, I have six years of IT epxerience. Kind regards, Coldfreeze

Do you see it in recording devices in this generic laptop? Is it set to default? You say Windows shows it working so it must be connected.

My internal microphone has stopped working. I have a ThinkPad x201i, running Windows 7, 64 bits. Both  the motherboard and the mic have been replaced. Everytime the mic works when I get my laptop back, but a few hours or a day later it stops working again. I downlowded the latest dirver.  I deleted and let Windows reinstall the driver.  Any idea what to do?Thanks!

Check the Mixer/Audio settings whether Mic is turned on.

Depending on the used software it might happen, that it disables the microphone while ending the program (Skype, ICQ etc.)

After windows update i suddenly noticed that the internal microphone was not working. After reading numerous forums and other online articles i failed to get a solution. After a while i thought of uninstalling the last update i received which is "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3163018)". As soon as i did this and after restarting my laptop the microphone was working perfectly fine. But again after a day the update automatically installed and the internal microphone problem started again. Pleas help me with a permanent solution as i cant keep on uninstalling this particular update time and again. As this is a security update from windows i am not able to disable the update.Help!Thank you.

First off , thanks for having this forum to help us with our issues!

I just purchased Aspire 5733z, 8 MB Ram, Windows7, 64 Bit Notebook!
I have been setting it up a little each day.
The Built-in MICROPHONE does not work when making phone calls using Yahoo or even magic jack. After the first day of purchase it starting making a high pitch noise and so I turned decip down. I played with it for the next few days and well still no one can hear me on the other end.
Where is the Microphone located and is there something covering it when bought new that I need to remove?
Thanks guys!
P.S. I use a USB hub since I have several items that need to be connected to the PC.

A:Microphone Internal Not working!

To check your internal microphone is working use the windows sound recorder..... start, all programs, accessories, entertainment, sound recorder. Make a recording and check it records and plays back. If this works your internal mic is OK and I would start looking at a Yahoo driver or settings problem instead. From memory, the microphone is a small hole on the lid adjacent to the webcam.

Hello

I recently reinstalled Win 7 on my HP Probook 4530s, and have encountered a few problems since.
The latest is that the internal microphone does not seem to be functioning at all through any programs that would use it (Skype, sound recorder etc).

It does appear in the audio devices control panel but not in device manager (although I don't know that it should?), and it says its working correctly but obviously this is not so!

Additionally, the sound was behaving erratically as well - it often will not work unless I click the test button on the speaker properties page. If I leave the computer for any length of time I have to repeat this.

I have downloaded the only audio driver that is listed here http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...Id=5060880&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4058 but this does not seem to have any effect.

Anybody have any ideas?

Hello there! I have been having issues with my internal microphone where it makes a loud noise on the other side  when I'm talking on skype. It has been like that since I got my computer and I had to buy an external one and then the issue was gone. External ones tend to break over time so I want to get the issue with the internal one fixed. I found an old thread ( http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/internal-microphone-not-working-properly/m-p/2158281#M30... ) In which the user had the same problem and he fixed the issue with the document he was provided with. Trying to open the link inside the thread now does not lead me to a document with steps that explain how to fix it, so i was wondering if anyone here knew where to find the same document or how to fix the issue.

Hello First off, I apologize if this isn't considered to be in the correct forum or not. I wasn't too sure, because I'm not exactly sure what the problem is.

My internal microphone currently is not working. I receive sound perfectly fine from everything, but my internal microphone will not record it. I have spoken into it, created loud noises, and have done whatever else I can, and it still does not pick anything up. My settings are enabled, yes. I've been to onto the HP site and have gone through step-by-step instructions over various solutions that could fix this, but none of it seemed to have worked.

I've tried a numerous amount of times to use the sound recorder and play it back, and when I do the sound does not show up.

Has anyone had this problem before? If so, how did they fix it? Or does anyone know maybe what it could be and any other possible solutions available?

Some information that might possibly be able to help (I'm not sure if it will or not, but it can't hurt.):

Hello Dotaquote,

Check both the Speaker volume Microphone settings and the Microphone settings themself as there are a few settings found in each one that affect recording...Have you also contacted Compaq directly about this as they are more equipped to handle support requests for there hardware? They also provide a 24h live chat support service.

Did not record sound, doesnt work at all (including with google talk, skype).

Here's are the related info. Do asked for more info if not sufficient.

A:Internal microphone failure (not working)

Usually, the Stereo Mix is set as the default recording device. Then any device, mic, or line in, can be used. Also with Stereo Mix set you can record audio from the internet (what you hear on the speakers). Setting to Mic only limits what you can record.

Also, in Microphone properties, do you have the "Levels" set for the mic? If the level is set to zero you would not hear anything.

A:internal microphone not working properly

Try the steps listed in this document from HP. It has the most common solutions and steps to isolate the issue. It is possibly a hardware issue since an external microphone works without any issue, but let me know what happens with each step of the document as that will help determine if it is a hardware issue or not. Also, let me know the results of the steps in the Using Windows Sound Recorder to test the microphone section. If this recorded file also exhibits the same behavior, then it is definitely not any third party software causing the issue.

I recently upgraded my HP laptop to Windows 10 but discovered the internal microphone no longer worked after trying a video call on Skype. I have researched the problem thoroughly on the web and watched all the help videos I can find, but to no avail. I have tried updating the drivers from Realtek, uninstalling the microphone in devices and restarting my laptop, but nothing has worked. Before I updated Windows, the microphone worked fine. The 'intergrated microphone array' that I've seen discused on forums for this problem does not show up as in option in audio recoring devices. It doesn't seem to be recognised by my laptop at all in audio settings. In 'playback' the only device is Realtek speakers and in 'recording' I have set Realtek microphone as the default device but the internal microphone still does not pick up my voice as it used to. When I have troubleshooted the issue, I am told that my microphone is not plugged in, but this shoudn't be the case as I have never used an external microphone with this laptop. It seems that due to the Windows 10 update, my laptop no longer recognises the internal microphone. Does this mean I will have to buy an external microphone, or is there another way of fixing this problem? Any help with this issue would be much appreciated.

Hello,

I sometimes make overviews in virtual machines and technology tutorials on my Mac for YouTube and other video sites, I bought a Dell PP28L laptop yesterday with Windows 7.

There is an internal microphone (2 are listed) but neither seem to detect any audio, the volume setting is on 100, and I have tested both of the listed, but neither work.

I want to do a tutorial on installing Movie Maker 6.0 (Vista version) on Windows 7 easily, but can't do it, because I need to use my voice in the video, of course.

Would like some assistance please, thanks ^^

PP28L does not return anything on the Dell support site. Do you have another number for this unit? It must be an old machine?

Also, what is listed in the Device Manager, Sounds section? Post a screenshot.

A:Satellite Pro P300 PSPCDE - internal microphone is not working

How did you test the internal microphone?

Usually the internal mic belongs to the internal webcam. So did you test this in connection with the internal webcam?
The preinstalled webcam software allows you to create movies and pictures. The movie can be recorded with the sound and the internal mic is used for that?

Furthermore the internal mic should be listed in control panel -> sound -> recording tab
If it?s not visible there, then you should click right and should check the options; show hidden device, show disabled devices. Then you could enable the internal mic and could make this as default device.

Can anyone (1) confirm that this model of laptop has an internal microphone and (2) tell me how to get it working? Narrative: I have had this laptop for several years with Win 7 64-bit, recently upgraded it to Win 10 Home 64-bit.  When running Win 7, I definitely used an external microphone with the input jack, but I'm not sure I ever used the internal microphone.  Yesterday I tried to use Skype and couldn't get the microphone to work (I don't have an external mike where I am now).  Started trying to analyze and the only  Recording device listed in the Recording tab of the Sound control panel is "Stereo Mix, IDT High Definition Audio CODEC" - not sure if this applies to the internal mike.  Neither speaking to nor tapping on the microphone hole above the screen caused any response at all in the level bars at the right of the window. Started to doubt that I have an internal mike, so looked for specs.  On http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02910495, I found "Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone (VGA)", which led me to check out the integrated webcam under Imaging Devices.  Still no definite confirmation that I have an internal mike, but I found an image of the laptop with mike identified next to the webcam, that corresponds to my laptop, so I really think the hardware is there. I used Device Manager to check for updates for the webcam device (HP Webcam-101), and it said the drivers are up to date.  I d... I've had this Toshiba Satellite L500 for over a year and the internal mic has always worked great. I often use Skype on this machine and the mic always works fine. The other day my friend added Skype to his iPhone and we wanted to see if it worked, but because we were in the same room, there was some feedback (not much, but a little), so we hung up. Half an hour later, I tried to use Skype to call a friend back home, and the mic wasn't working. It hasn't worked since.

I uninstalled Skype and re-installed all of the audio drivers. I have also tried adjusting all of the Sound settings in Control Panel (mic volume, boost, default device, etc.). I also tried using an external mic, which worked fine, and I was able to switch back and forth between the external and the internal, but only the external picked anything up. When I use Sound Recorder with the internal mic, all that's recorded is a quiet, garbled, electronic noise which fades to silence within a few seconds (see .rar attachment). EDIT: I found that this noise was due to using Microphone Boost. If I turn the boost off, nothing at all is recorded.

Device Manager says the internal mic is working fine. Is there anything else I can do? Is there some kind of software that I can run to test if the microphone is working properly or is broken? I am running Windows Vista 64-bit.

A:Solved: Toshiba internal microphone suddenly not working

So under "Playback Devices" I turned the microphone playback volume up so I could hear through the speakers if anything was being picked up. At one point I close the lid of my laptop and heard some crackling. Turns out if I move the lid up and down, the microphone crackles, so I'm guessing there's a loose connection in there somewhere. It's too bad because it's not an old machine, and I still have no idea why it stopped working so suddenly.

Just thought I would update you all and suggest a possible troubleshooting method for those of you in the same situation. Of course, be careful of using microphone playback without headphones, since it can lead to feedback which can damage your audio components.

Hello,

I own a laptop (Presario CQ56) and have been using Skype constantly for about a year with its internal microphone without an issue. After obtaining an automatic Windows 7 update a couple of days ago, my internal microphone stopped working. The microphone is still detected, enabled, but isn't picking up any input whatsoever. However, there is low static, but it's very constant, and isn't changed by input whatsoever. Here are the things I've tried:

-Restarting
-System Restore to before the update, then disabling automatic updates so I no longer have it
-Running the computer's find and fix audio recording software which claimed that there was no issue
-Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers without restart (with driver updates automatically through the computer's find and fix audio recording problems)
-Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers with restart (with driver updates automatically through the computer's find and fix audio recording problems)
-Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers with restart (through the official site's driver updates)

I do not own an external microphone, and I am hoping that I don't have to get one. That being said, that also means that I can't be entirely sure whether it's software or hardware based.

I hope that one of you can help me. I've done a lot of internet scouring and Google-ing and have run out of things to try; I've been at it for about 5 hours so far.

Thank you in advance.

A:Internal Microphone Suddenly Not Working After Windows Update

I would do a system restore to before it did the updates and see if it resolves the issue. Click start, programs, accessories, system tools, then system restore. Choose the date before the problem started happening and let it restore. See if the mic works after that. If it asks to do updates again and by chance you know what one caused the problem; then just dont download it. And to solve that from happening i would change the windows update settings to only download but let me choose when to install. EDIT: nevermind the system restore I just saw you already did that. In the end though i would just completely uninstall the device itself; remove it from device manager completely; and let windows hopefully re-detect it correctly.

Hello.

I'm having a bit of a problem after I reset a Toshiba Satellite C55D-A-13T computer and upgraded it to windows 10. I reinstalled all the software from the Windows 10 upgrade Toshiba page and everything appears to work except the internal microphone. It doesn't appear to register any sound. It worked before, with windows 8.1 installed.

I tried another external microphone and that work fine. I tried reinstalling the IDT sound drivers and uninstalled DTS sound and Toshiba audio enhancements. I tried different audio levels and boost levels. The newest BIOS is installed. I tried using microsoft HD audio drivers but always with the same result, the green bar doesn't budge in recording devices.

Detail about my computer:
I am using an Hp Widescreen lap top. Its an HP Pavilion dv9000 that originally was using Vista. I have had other internal issues in the past such as having the CD Drive stop working. I took that in and they said it is busted and the only way to fix it would be to have them take it out and put a new one in. The internal camera is still working though. I have never dropped my computer so I don't under stand what is happening. Also I think it may have happened before then. When I started using my headphones with a microphone attached it might have stopped working around there too... Sorry for not being very clear. I'm not sure when it stopped working EXACTLY. PLEASE HELP SOON! ~Haru

I am unable to turn off the internal microphone on my laptop. Attached is a picture of the setting I see when trying to make this adjustment. I cannot un-check the Select box. Clicking on it yields no response. I've removed, rebooted, and reinstalled the sound drivers. Everything works fine with the sound, but I seem to be getting some feedback that might be caused by the microphone. I'd like to disable it.

This is a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop running Windows XP Professional SP2.

Any ideas?

I want to control my external microphone as line in and keep built-in mic as one for calls.

When i plug in my external mic the control passes to the external and the internal mic is not available. I want to control both these separately.

I ham having Toshiba L750 with conexant driver.
It has only one option in Recording devices even if i plug in external mic (as shown in the attachment).
How can i get the line-in (External mic) as a separate option?

Help me plssss
Thanks in Advance

A:Internal and External Microphone

You need the Microphone mode. The microphone mode provides 5VDC on the "ring" connection, which is required by a "computer" microphone. If you use or set the jack mode to "Line" the "ring" connector will change from 5VDC to a signal in connection and a "computer" microphone will not work.

Dell Latitude 3540 running W7 64bit Professional. I have just installed Skype and the call recipient cannot hear me - well they can, but faint and distorted (muddy). Not techie but in trawling around went in as follows:

Manage Audio Devices / Sound / Recording / Realtek High Defenition Audio / Microphone Properties and the level and the boost are set to maximum

I have also used the sound recorder in W7 and you can barely hear my voice.

I have spent ages trying to troubleshoot but to no avail. I just wondered if any kind person could point me in the right direction.

Thanks

I have a Dell Vostro 1500, running 32-bit Windows 7. It came with Vista, but I upgraded to Windows 7 a couple months ago, which I think is causing the issues I'm experiencing. According to whoever I'm speaking with, the sound for the microphone built in to my webcam fades in and out and gets really loud randomly. In an attempt to solve this, I bought an external microphone which also does not work.

The sound driver is the SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC, version 6.10.0.5614. When I tried to update it through Windows 7's update driver software it says I have the best version for my system, but I still suspect that this could be what is causing the problem. I can't seem to find a better driver though.

Any ideas?

Thank you

[The MSI forum either takes forever for someone to reply, or nobody ever does.]

So I noticed that, when I have external speakers plugged in via the green output, the internal microphone is disabled. When I have them unplugged, the internal microphone is enabled.

BUT, the audio quality is extremely bad and is very low. The microphone level is all the way up to 100, the boost is at +30.0 dB, and the format is at 2 channel (16 bit, 48000 Hz, DVD quality).

Even if I'm 3 inches away from the microphone, the audio is quite low and the quality is bad. Sounds like an old Internet stream or something.

My audio drivers are up-to-date. Sort of disappointing, especially when it comes to Skype (audio quality is very poor).

Hi,

I've searched your forums for this (and exhausted Google several times), and haven't quite found a response to it.

I have a Thinkpad (Lenovo R61, if that helps at all), and am coming to terms with this frustrating device known as the internal microphone.

Basically, all I want is to turn if off. Disable it. Be done with the wretched thing.

I use SoundCapture to record audio sometimes from websites (nothing heinous, just soundbytes to help with my studies). It works fine on my desktop computer, but this internal mic on my laptop is playing havoc with it. (Every time I try to record something, it merely becomes a muffled background noise, and in the foreground there is only the recordings that the microphone has picked up.)

I have tried going to Control Panel > Sound & Audio Devices and playing with the Audio and Voice options there (such as turning the volume down on both Sound and Audio Recording options). However, after doing that, I still could not get SoundCapture to successfully record any sound coming from the computer (or any alternative recording programs, for that matter). Also, now when I try and use a sound capturing program, the only 'source' I have available to select is Microphone.

I'm sure I'm probably doing something wrong; I don't claim to be a whizz with computers. But it's very frustrating all the same.

Any help would be lovely, either with turning this bloody internal mic off, or figuring out just w... Read more

Hi all, I've had this B50 for 6 months now and finally decided to update to Windows 10 (Machine Type Model 80LT). Now that I've updated, everything seems to work great apart from one thing... the Mic in Skype does not seem to work at all. The Mic works 100% fine in voice recorder but in Skpe the most I can get on the Echo test call when I scream at the laptop is a distorted buzz. Otherwise it's pure silence. Steps I've taken:1) Updated Realtek driver to 6.0.1.7553 found on Lenovo Support Site2) Updated driver through Windows3) Played around with every setting for recording devices (disable effects, let programs take exclusive access etc).4) Correct Mic is selected in Skype, tried the few settings possible in there which do nothing for me.5) In the Lenovo Settings App, tried all the settings in there too which don't do anything. When I do start a call on Skype - Lenovo settings highlights the Mic in Orange like it's been activated. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I need Skype for work and can't be having to use my phone for Skype calls all the time!

I'm on an Alienware m14x with Windows 7, and my internal mic hasn't worked for some time. I assumed it was just broken until earlier I noticed others having the same problem. It picks up internal noise from the laptop like the keys and when I click my wireless mouse that picks up as well. I've tried disabling all other mics (which pick up no sound) and all the formats in the advanced tab, but nothing works. It seems to be a fairly common problem, anyone know what to do? Here's a picture with the driver info.

I noticed in the properties there was no "audio boost". There were also other mics to select from, but this is the only one that picks up sound. I'm currently using my phone through the external port as a substitute with the microphone app, but it's inconvenient.

A:Internal microphone only picks up background noise...

The first thing I see is you do not have the correct sound driver. You only have the generic, basic function, Windows installed High Definition Audio Device. The first step is to install the correct sound driver.

There are two different M14x models listed on the Dell site, a M14x (early 2011) and M14x R2 (early 2012). Which model do you have? The 14x downloads show Realtek for the sound. The 14x R2 shows Creative Labs.

Suggest you access the Dell downloads for your model and download the available sound driver, and then see if the mic works.

I upgraded to Windows 8Pro a while back. at first it would show the internal mic but greyed out. now not even diagnostics recognises that there is an internal mic. it shows two mic jacks (one on the left and one on the right) when my laptop only actually has one.
This is really frustrating and I'm out of ideas

A:Latitude e5420 internal microphone not recognised

eabanda I upgraded to Windows 8Pro a while back. at first it would show the internal mic but greyed out
Are  you  saying that the mic worked okay in 7 but never worked at all in 8? If so, that might be the problem. Dell does not provide an audio driver for an E5420 running 8.
To diagnose the issue perform a system recovery.
> If the mic works when the system is restored back to 7 then the hardware is okay. You might need an 8 IDT audio driver or Intel chipset driver for the E5420 if you can find them. Maybe you can install the IDT 7 driver using compatibility mode.
> If the mic does not work after the system recovery then there is probably hardware failure. The E5420 came with 2 mic configurations: an internal mic near the power button on the base, or a dual mic array on either side of the optional webcam in the bezel at the top of the display.
If the mic hardware has failed and if you have the optional webcam, you can fix the mic by replacing the webcam. You can get the Owner's Manual (which is actually the Service Manual) from the E5420 documents page. It has step by step instructions for replacing all replaceable parts.
If the mic hardware has failed and if you don't have the optional webcam, I don't know how or whether it can be repaired.

The Windows 10 upgrade seems to be working fine on my HDX 16 (I did a clean install). Now I want to talk to Cortana and cannot get my built-in microphone to work. This brings up two questions. 1. Does my laptop model have an Integrated Microphone Array? I cannot remember the last time it worked, but I thought it had one. 2. If it does have a built-in mic, how do I get Windows 10 and Cortana to hear it? I have tested and have got things to work with an external (Logitech) headset mic and headphones. And, I have an old unbranded external stand mic that works as well. I just cannot yell "Hey Cortana" at my PC and get anything to happen. I also ran the mic test on the Integrated Microphone Array and it recorded nothing (and I set the array to default). My driver is IDT High Definition Audio CODEC 6.10.6225.0, dated 7/21/2009.

Recently received my U400 and the microphone worked great. However, at some point during a Skype call, my partner could not hear me very well and was only able to hear static on my end.

I checked my sound setting and under the "Recording" tab, the Conexant Internal Microphone was very active and "loud" (as if I was constantly talking). I went under properties and checked "Listen to this device" and all I could hear was static. I tried talking but couldn't hear myself. Lowering microphone level didn't seem to change the amount of static I hear from my microphone. I turned off mic boosts and enhancements, but it didn't change static.

Internal microphone is set as default device. Stereo mix is similarly active and loud. Driver version is 8.54.19.0. (up to date). Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Tried uninstalling driver and letting Windows install a new driver, but problem persisted. Pretty much can't use microphone to record, but it shows that it is active and is receiving a lot of sound somehow.

What should I do?

A:Lenovo U400 Conexant Internal Microphone Receives Static Input

The first thing to do, since you let Windows install a sound driver, is to reinstall the Lenovo supplied sound driver. Non-Vendor supplied sound drivers usually either do not work or do not work correctly, including the windows installed generic HD audio codec driver.

Are there any "unknown devices" with yellow triangles on them?

Is you driver there , listed, and working?

If your driver is missing, or there is a yellow triangle on it, you will need to update it.

I got my laptop about a month ago and from the start my microphone wasn't working. My speakers were fine, and I could hear everyone I was talking to but they told me that they could barely hear me, almost couldn't hear me at all. I didn't know what the problem was so I went out and bought a basic logitech headset (with microphone) and that still doesn't work. Now, no one can hear me at all and I don't know what the problem is. I will provide pictures of the Recording Tab if necessary and any information that will help me solve this problem. Please help me, thank you.

Hi, Try the following. First of all, remove any devices connected to the notebook, including the headset. Download the Realtek HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72090.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete,, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook and let windows fully load for a few minutes before ... I purchased a used Acer Aspire 5516, it has a replacement HDD with W7 Home Premium 64, originally it had Vista 64.
There was only a 500GB HDD with a C partition and it showed up as an ejectable media in the system tray. I have partitioned the HDD to 80GB(OS) and 420GB(Media).
Now, both partitions show up as ejectable (USB) media and I cannot assign D to the media partition.
D does not show up as an assignable letter for partitions, I have named it E, this conflicted with my external HDD storage so I renamed my external storage to K.
I have read several possible fix's, bit most opinions on them are that a reg edit is a patch not a fix. Other answers leave a broken system by making the icon dissapear.
I do not have recovery media or the W7 install disk. The W7 serial is good and it regularly updates.
I can't find the drivers (ACHI) on the Acer site and I'm unsure of what INTEL drivers to use.

Can someone help me with this ejectable media issue?

A:Notebook Internal HDD Shows As 'Safely Eject Media'

That is typical when using the Microsoft AHCI driver. The Intel AHCI driver is Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) and should be available in the driver downloads from your Laptops Driver downloads page at Acer. The Intel IRST is a raid driver but also includes it's AHCI driver and is the only way to get it. That does not mean you have to run Raid. It will do nothing if you don't run raid except use the AHCI driver.

Even when I go to the control panel for audio devices, nothing comes up. Is anyone familiar with this problem or have a solution?

A:My notebook doesn't recognize my internal speakers anymore

Go to Device Manager, expand the "sound..." tree, uninstall each one via RIGHT-click, select "uninstall"

Re-boot. Vista will re-install upon boot-up.

The HDD I have is from a Dell Inspiron 8500.

http://www.google.com/search?q=ic25...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

It's likely dying, so I want to hook it up to my new laptop to first use YCopy to back up the most important files, and then attempt to use Ez Gig II to make an image of the drive if possible.

However, I purchased Apricorn's Universal Hard Drive Adapter and the HDD linked above does NOT fit into any of the 3 adapter slots.

Here's an image of what the pins look like.

If necessary, I'll just return this and use Clonezilla to clone the drive with whatever cables I buy. What do I need to hook up this HDD to my new laptop via USB? Thanks!

I m replacing the internal hard drive on a hp pavilion zt1135 notebook.

I replaced original hard drive with a
Toshiba MK4025GAS (HDD2190) Hard Disk Drive
-40 gb

I followed the instalation instructions for the hard drive precisely, and there is apparently no needed software or dirvers with the drive that need to be installed to make the drive work. Should just be simple plug and play.

I inserted disk 1 of the 3 cd recovery set that came with the notebook, rebooted, entered bios setup and changed the boot order to boot off the cd rom. I saved the configuraion and rebooted. Now thisis what is happening.

It attemptes to boot off the cd-rom, a Message displays saying "floppy emulated booting"

Then:

Hard disk boot sector invalid
Press 'H' to retry hard disk, any other key for the next device.

Any advice on where I can go from here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My HP dv5000 Pavilion Notebook is failing to recognize the internal CD-ROM drive. This is a recent problem, the drive was working properly less than a week ago. The device manager shows no option for the drive as well as the system information in the HP help center has the drive listed as not being installed. I have go so far as checking the BIOS (Phoenix edition) for the drive but am unable to locate the option to check if the drive is enabled. I fully understand the risk and danger in entering the BIOS, hence why I am seeking advice from those who are more knowledgeable. I have tried calling the HP support center for assistance; needless to say they were of no help. The individual I spoke to had even less knowledge of computers than I do and even less of how to help solve my problem.

If there is anyone able to help I would greatly appreciate it, thank you.

A:My HP dv5000 Pavilion Notebook is failing to recognize the internal CD-ROM drive.

If Device Manager doesn't even show the drive there is a good chance that it has died. You can look in BIOS. In a Phoenix BIOS where you usually want to look is under Main. You should see your HD and maybe the CD drive. Settings should be on auto. If the CD drive isn't there it probably needs replacing. With a laptop you could take the drive out and put it back in to make sure you have a good connection.

I have an ASUS G50VT notebook that is 3 weeks old and I am running Vista Home Premium 64bit for my OS. My ODD was working jsut fine, now I can not read anything. In Explorer I can see the drive, but it does not read anything. I have unistalled the drive several times and rebooted, but did not work, I have also tried to edit the registry, but lower filters and upper filters are not listed to delete. After reading some other forums and also talking to Geek Squad they all said that my drive is bad and needs to be replaced.

With that thought in mind I have an older external NEC dvd burner that I hooked up to my new computer and the nc does the same thing with this drive, but when I hook it up to my old notebook (dell inspiron 1150 using XP) it works fine. This leads me to believe that possibly my problem is with Vista, but I do not know what to do. Can anyone help me please.

Thank You
Gene

A:Internal optical drive nor external NEC dvd burner functioning with new notebook

Gene have a look in Device Manager at your dvd drive and if it mentions Code 39 (under the General tab) have a look here,

PC Hell: How to Fix Error Code 39 with DVD or CD-ROM drive in Windows XP/Vista

If it lists something other than Code 39, please post back what it says.

It worked thanks, I have one more issue. I am trying to load microsoft 2000, and keep getting internal error 2349.

A:MS Office 2000 internal error 2349

If you mean MS Office 2000...there could be any number of reasons. If by load...you mean that you already have it installed...I suggest that you uninstall it, then reinstall it...add all SPs which apply (4, I believe) and then try to run it.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/329386Louis

I found several viruses on a system - when all was cleared up I found that Outlook was just not the same - I could open it but it closes up after just a few seconds. When I tried to reinstall I get this error message: Internal Error 2894 I even went as far as to uninstall and reinstall the software, but one again the same error happens: Internal Error 2894

Any clues about this problem?

Eric, did you clean up nimda as directed at www.mcafee.com? I suspect there's more to it than meets the eye. Someone else got this error. I think it's Word. Look in the recent questions.

I did the Dell diagnostic test here http://support.dell.com/support/topi...ng=&toggle=&dl=

Anyone have any other ideas? I no longer have a warranty. Maybe it just needs a new hard drive eventually? thanks...dano

I have made back up discs when i bought this pc, But with the Windows 10 , I am not given the choice to do a Restore. My PC keeps flashing on alot of the pages, Im running Norton security and Malware Bytes, and nothing has been found. I need to find a way to restore this back to the way it was when i bought it.  bought in 2013 , and it had windows 8 , 64 bit.  Thank you  Dee33

A:HP 2000 Notebook PC

Dee33 If you did the Win10 Upgrade and are now trying to revert back to Wion8, I have some bad news for you. While Microsoft tells you that there is no risk in the Win10 Upgrade, because they let you believe that you can always revert back to your original OS and setup within 30 days, the ugly fact of the matter is that the Win10 GoBack function has proven to be unreliable -- and when it fails, it can leave machines in a corrupted state -- which doesn't always happen, but it does happen often enough to be a problem and you won't get any warning in advance that it is going to trash your PC!The Win10 Upgrade is know, in some cases, to corrupt the Recovery partition stored there by the OEM that built the original machine.  This pretty much guarantees that no HP Recovery is going to work. So, any attempt to use F11 to do a restore is doomed to failure. Are you trying to use the Recovery Disks, by booting from the first one, and they are not working? If so, what is happening when you try to use them? We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks
