Greetings,

My almost 3 year old Asus X52 F3SV Notebook suddenly froze and shut itself down today. It will not boot past the 'Asus' logo screen. The furthest it got was 'loading windows', but quickly rebooted once that screen showed up.
It has been running quite hot lately, but i cleaned the fan out last weekend, and it had been running without problem since then.
I'm running Windows Vista Premium, with no other real problems until now, with up to date windows updates and regular Spybot and anti-virus scans.
There were random multicoloured lines running through the Asus screen on the first reboot after freezing. Could it be my graphics card? (Nvidia 8600m). I did not hear any crackling/popping sounds, so I really hope it's not dead yet.
I've looked around these forums, but couldn't find a similar problem/solution.

Thank you.

A:Asus x52 F3SV notebook not booting past Asus screen

Try running Bios defaults

This settings area can be called:
Bios Setup
CMOS Settings
System Setup
even just Setup
You can enter it by pressing the keyboard key that is displayed on your screen when first turning on your computer
Its sometimes:
A Fn Button like F1, or F2, or F10 or some other Fn key
DEL key
(whatever the computer states on screen when you first turn on your computer)
Once in Bios Setup, locate Setup Defaults (sometimes called Optimized Defaults)
Apply it, then Save and Exit Bios Settings (which is usually F10, but it will tell you in the Bios Settings screen)

If that doesn't help try reming and re-seating your Ram cards (even your hard drive)
You can download your Manual to find the locations of these components, but they are usually located under the laptop, under the covers

If it is your Video card (onboard) then that was be a big concern
You may need to locate the disassemble guide online, then blow out all internal dust

It may also require a CheckDisk scan
You can read HERE on how to do that outside Windows

Hi,
I have a asus w5f notebook with a tft lcd screen, over the last couple of weeks it has flickered when ive shut the lid, then a few days ago the state of flickering stayed there, it gets a big whitish tint across the screen starting from the middle and fading out to the sides, and a rainbow effect on the left hand side of the screen, the right hand side is pretty much ok.
I took the thing to bits and have isolated the problem to either:
1 the inverter
2 the lcd screen
3 the ribbon cable.

When i twist the screen with my fingers, one finger on the top left pulling towards me, and one finger on the top right pushing away from me, it goes back to normal, until i let go. also if i pull the top left side toward me and push in the middle of the screen it goes normal too. This gives me the idea that it is something repairable if the screen being twisted bent or skewed makes it ok again.
the backlight is fine as far as i know, when i look down the back of the screen i can see the thin bright light along the bottom of the screen.
Please help, im trying to do this on a budget, so if i can fix it for free or cheaply that would be great!

Hey acid_clown,

You are not alone! I'm experiencing the exact same problem as you too! Just that mine is on the right side of the screen

Hey guys!

In the summer of '10, I bought an Asus K70ID notebook. When I first started it, everything seemed allright. But when I started installing software, the BSOD appeared.. There are weeks were I don't notice anything, and everything works good, but sometimes he just crashes 6 times in a row..

The message says that I have to delete newly installed files and try again, but I did, and the BSOD still appears.. It mostly appear when I use my processor a lot (iTunes, MSN, gaming etc.)

I phoned the story I bought it from, and they told me that I had to put it back to factory settings. I did, but still the BSOD appears..

Can somebody help me?

SORRY--I ORIGINALLY TITLED THIS AS AN HP 35. That was two computers ago, this one is a 15. HP Notebook - 15-f111dx (ENERGY STAR) Not sure this is where it belongs. The first 50 results of what I thought was a narrow Google search had nothing matching this, and a lot of lockup after password results. While working on the computer, including actively typing, the screen will "blink" black for at least a full second, then come back to wherever I was before. Then a few seconds later, it blinks again and the password screen appears. The machine is well-ventilated and it not doing any processor-intensive gaming stuff. It is similar to a screensaver re-login. Pressing enter after the password returns me to the same place almost instantly. This has continued even after I have done at least two each, virus scan (Avast), malware scan (Malware Bytes), and spyware scan (SuperAntiSpyware). There's also plente of gigs of space left on the hard drive, 8 gigs of RAM, and Task Manager says there's still unused memory and the processor is somewhere less than 80% occupied. So what gives???? Thanks!

Hi all,
(I'm not sure if this is in the rigth section of the forum.)

Today i started my notebook up when i came back i saw my screen was stuck and there ware collored stripes over my screen.

I thought it was some kind of error and i couldn't do anything with my laptop.
So i plugged it out so it didn't had any power source.

Now when i put it back on the screen stays black.
The On lamp burns.
The Cpu lamp burns for a few secunds and goes out.
I still can hear the fan working.
When i put a CD in the driver the Cpu blinks a few secunds and stops.

The Point is that my screen stays black mather what i do i searched arround on the net and i don't think it has to do with the blacklight.

I don't kno what to do.
My last hope is that (i think its stuck in "sluimer mode" kind of stand-by)when my battery goes low it auto shuts it self down.
And be back to normal.

But i want to hear what you think.
Or mybe some 1 els herer had same problem and solved it.

A:Notebook Black Screen

When you say be back to normal do you mean the monitor comes back on, or the signs (as in like fan sounds, etc.), you getting from the laptop go back to how it would usually operate. Also if you could possible tell of any previous problems (no matter how slight the case) you may have had with you monitor also what it was that you were doing before you left the laptop before coming back to it because you said "i started my notebook up when i came back i saw my screen was stuck".
This information may more help to someone being able to have a better idea as to what the problem may be. As for me the most i could probably say (never really worked on a laptop ) is that you take it to a repair station and have it looked at.

I hope that you get a quick response as to your post and the problem you are experiencing

Thought I'd try several of the function keys (don't really know what the right one is.) just in case I knocked the display out that way.

After I run Mcafee scan it will stop for a couple of days and than start again. Also if I go to sites such as facebook and ebay the blinking will start.

Well, I have changed a few Toshiba Notebook LCD's, and some of them where not even broken, just misconnected or someother causes. But I would recommend sitting down, and removing the screws on the sides of the screen panel and poppin it out and taking a quick look in the back and bottom of the screen to make sure everything is in order.

If you see picture when you boot. I would recommend checking the bios settings. Try looking for video related options.

i have this problem with my Gateway notebook, and i have a few questions about my situation.

it started a few months ago. one day while my laptop was on the screen just went black. the laptop was still running, the screen was just showing black. i could pull the battery and unplug it to shut it off, and then when starting it up again the screen would be ok for a few seconds before going black again.
i was thinking i could just take it into the computer store because it was still under warrenty, but the problem is i have some "stuff" on this laptop i dont want anyone else to see. since i couldnt see the laptop to do anything with the "stuff" on it, i just stored it away and used my desktop computer.
a couple weeks ago i thought i would try the laptop and now it works, the screen was good. i figured there was a chance it could go black again so i thought this was my chance to remove the "stuff" that i didnt want to be seen. i know with the laptop there is a System Restore which will restore the computer to an earlier time, so simply deleting the "stuff" wasnt going to completely remove it, right?
so instead of a System Restore, i used the CD that came with the laptop and did a System Recovery. this puts the laptop back to the original settings that came with the laptop when i bought it from the store. the only programs on the laptop now are whatever was on it when i bought it from the store. in checking the System Restore which rest... A:Asus black screen

When you boot the comp, look at the screen it will tell you how to get into the Bios(might be setup) something like F1 or the DEL key. Reboot and press that key. It should then present you with a screen that you can set certain parts of the comp. Look for Hard disk diag or test. Run the test. you also have the Ram test , run that if the first test is OK.
If nothing is wrong back out and turn off the comp. Turn the comp upside down and look on the bottom to see if there is a RESET hole. If there is insert a straightend out paper clip and push it into the hole.
If that doesn't work call the manufacturer.

Hello,

My neighbor brought over her computer this morning saying that she is unable to boot up her computer. After pushing the power button, the DOS looking window pops up that says we can push F2 for Setup but then goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor (for about 3 blinks) and then goes completely black.

We've tried to boot in safe mode, but we still get the same black screen.

The computer is a Gateway notebook with an Atom mobile processor and Windows XP Home installed.

Apparently there had been a virus on the machine that she had cleaned off. They had issues with Internet Explorer failing to bring up a web page on their primary account, but when we created a new account, IE worked just fine. She successfully used the computer for about 24 hours and is now having this "black screen" problem.

Any help would be great!

A:Gateway notebook boots to black screen

Have you checked the Gateway support page...for any data relative to similar problems?

System model?

What makes you think...that the system is now clean...if IE was not functioning properly...after stated "cleaning"?

Ok so this first happened about 2 weeks ago. I unplugged my Gateway Notebook to move it downstairs and right when I unplugged it the screen went black(not completely I could still faintly see my desktop. I restarted the computer and it started up fine...and it was fine for the next week or so, and then it did it again when I unplugged it. Restarted and it was fine. Last night I did it and it happened again but this time restarting it didn't work. I went on my parent's computer to go to the Gateway support chat room. The guy helped me I hooked it up to an external monitor and uninstalled some drivers and then downloaded some new drivers and he said I was done and i unplugged and it was fine. About 2 or 3 hours ago I unplug my notebook and boom, black screen and restarting doesn't work. I go on the chat support again and the lady basically just tells me to do the same thing as last night and it worked(or so I thought) I end the chat and I unplug to go move it from the external monitor and boom black screen again. I am now waiting in queue for the chat room again, and i'm hooked up to the monitor again and i deleted the drivers again. But I don't want to do this again if it's not gonna help. Any ideas instead of having to send it to Gateway for them to fix/delete my hard drive?! PLEASE HELP!

tried everything.no way the display would light up.
installed os again,on oncemore formatted hdd,now it`s telling me that it can not identify the grafics, stops installing driver(from HP homepage) and any other driver (Lan,touchpad, sound) is,in that notebooks "mind" already installed (they are not,it was all clean cause formatted)...
if I just install win7 and nothing else everything is fine, well it`s not - because I can not access internet and video playback stutters.but the display lights up.What am I doing wrong?or is the thing just broken down due to heat? warranty was void before I cut the vent,as it is 2 and a half years old.
any suggestions,anyone?
(hope you get what I am trying to say,I´m from germany and not a native speaker/writer...)
Thanks in advance

A:Notebook screen black - sys sounds playing

Did this laptop come with Windows 7 Ultimate or did you purchase the OS and thus installed it?
Best bet for you is to get the HP Recovery CD or DVD for your model it will have all the drivers needed for your model. Basically it will install the HP Factory Windows 7 along with everything that's suppose to go with it. This process takes a few hours to run.

So contact HP Tech support tell them you need the Recovery CD/DVD for Model HP laptop. There is a cost for this so be aware. Then you won't have these issues saying graphic driver stopped because you don't have the correct drivers etc. The HP recovery will have all those installed.

Also with every HP system you get recovery with it but it's on the HD in it's own partition so whatever got installed might have blown out that partition and now you have an issue.

Hi everyone

I have a HP MODEL: DV6 1131ea. The other night when I turned it on it would not boot and all I got was a blank screen.  I cannot boot into the Bios.

I have been on the HP Website and tried the following:

1.  Removing battery and cables and pressing down the power button for 1 minute.  Then, replacing cables and booting.

2. Holding down the Windows key PLUS the B key and then the power key for 1 second and allowing the machine to boot into bios and restore the bios.   Those were the details I got some the HP website on my specific machine.

So, far nothing has worked.  I have heard it could be a problem with the motherboard.

Does anyone have any ideas?  Is it possible to boot into the BIOS from this situation?

Many thanks

Jake Shiraz

NB: In case anyone is thinking how I know the BIOS is corrupted it has a light which flashes intermittently next to the Capitals lock and another at the top right-hand part of the keyboard.

Here's some repair/recovery/restore options (in this order):This presumes that you can access Startup Repair.1 - Startup Repair.  Run it 3 times, rebooting in between tries.2 - System Restore to a point before this started happening.3 - DISM/SFC repair (DISM doesn't work with W7, although SFC does)     Then please run the following DISM commands to see if there's any problems with the system (from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt).  Press Enter after each one:    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth    FYI - I have repaired systems using the last command even though problems weren't found with the first 2 - so I suggest running them all.    From this article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh824869.aspx    You can also run sfc.exe /scannow from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt to check for further corruption. 4 - RESET using the "Keep My Files" option (W8 calls this a REFRESH; W7 and earlier doesn't have this function)5 - Repair install of the OS (Thanks to FreeBooter!):    "How To Perform a Repair Installation For Windows 8, 8.1 and 10"    https://www.winhelp.us/non-destructive-reinstall-of-windows-8-and-8-1.html    "How to Do a Repair Install to Fix Windows 7"  ... Specs: ASUS G75VX. Initially it had Windows 8 but upgraded to Windows 8.1 several months ago.

Okay. This problem has been happening the past 2 months, giving a handful of different error codes, and the dreadful Automatic Repair loop. I can send in my laptop to Asus for repair, but I want to keep it as a last resort.

Initially, this problem occured when my computer suddenly froze, forcing me to hold down the power button to shut down. Upon booting it back on. The black screen pops up, with nothing happening for few minutes, then starting Automatic Repair, black screen again, and repeat.

From the various error codes, the one thing they have in common is that the files are missing or contain errors, noticeably system32 files. Another thing I see that's never changed, is that they only occur when I force shut down the computer, or a BSOD (which I got once, from a KERNAL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR just yesterday).

Sometimes, though luck (more of restarting the computer over and over), I escape the Automatic Repair loop, and changes to "Diagnosing your PC...". It then fixes a bunch of stuff, although nothing I can recognize from the file names, it's a bunch of random letters with dashes similar to a serial code. Afterwards, the computer boots up like normal, although another problem has arisen.

From that day, whenever the computer boots up normally, the disk usage spikes up to 100%, and lags the computer out. This lasts a few minutes to an hour, so I wait it out. I... Read more

Hey all.

I have an Asus N61J Laptop. I powered it up and did a full system restore (destructive recovery) walked away and came back to a black screen. So I restarted and now when I power it on either being plugged in or not all I get is a black screen. The capslock light is on, the numlock light is and it shows that its accessing the hard drive. There is no sound or beeps. I reseated the ram, I noticed it was overheating (turned itself off within seconds once after trying to turn it on) so I reapplied thermal compound to the gpu/cpu. No F keys work or delete to get into the bios. Just a black screen. I also checked the hard drive to ensure it was seated and it is. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

About a month Ago i got a computer virus that wont boot me into Windows 7. When i turn of my computer, it starts up with the computer logo, then freezes to a black screen with a blinking underscore in the top left hand corner not processing anything. I can't even go into safe mode, and Alt-Ctrl-Delete just restarts it. The most i can do is enter boot mode by pressing F2 and enter ASUS express Gate just fine. Does anyone have any tips or solutions for this? It would be very much appreciated by me and my family.

I've installed Windows 8.1 on a Medion Akoya P6634 sporting a Intel HD3000 and a GeForce GT630M.

I had to disable Windows Update because the notebook's screen becomes black after it performed some updates.
Hooking it up to another screen via HDMI works but I can't activate the notebook's screen anymore.

So I tried installing the latest Intel 3000 HD driver manually (like described here https://communities.intel.com/message/248260). It says that the latest display driver is already installed.
When I install the Intel 3000 HD driver via the executable the screen becomes black after hearing the "device disconnected" sound.

When it happened the last time all I could do was switching to safe-mode and disabling the Intel HD 3000 altogether.

Installing the latest GeForce-driver has no effect whatsoever. All the time the notebook's display is running at a 1024x768 resolution (native resolution is 1366x768).

Do you have any ideas what else I can do besides going back to Windows 7?

A:Black screen on notebook after Intel HD 3000 update

Welcome to the forum!

Bit unusual computer you have there. Could look at BIOS settings and see if there are graphics settings that you can change. Look for something like dynamic or discrete.

Also try the drivers on the manufacturers site: Treiber - MEDION Deutschland

I have quite a few problems with my laptop that have been happening since day 1. My laptop screen constantly turns black at night -- this happens while the power supply is plugged in and when it is now. The notebook will be on but the screen will turn black randomly and then come back on at random times. It is very frustrating when working on a project. Also, the screen will just start blinking hysterically. THis happens whether the touchscreen is on or off and whether the bluetooth is on or off. At times, it will just freeze when I am trying to log back in. It will keep spinning and never log back in. I really need help with this issue as I've tried everything. I am in the IT industry so I have a great deal of knowledge with technology. I just can't deal with the screen randomly turning black and hysterically blinking. Anyone else having this issue or know how to fix the issue? Thank you.

Hey guys

Trying to fix an issue with the mrs' Dell notebook; which is an Inspiron 15z 5523.
1st thing - it's out of warranty, so need to try a self-fix if possible, if not, I'm sensing it may be time for a new laptop for her so any tips on data recovery will be appreciated down the line.
Also worth mentioning that this has come about a couple of days after installing Windows 10 - unsure if that's related, but worth a mention.
The issue is that no matter what, we're faced with a blank black screen, with no backlights or LED anywhere. It's now started beeping 3 times in succession which as far as I can tell from the troubleshooting (here) is a system board failure.
For now though, I've done the following:

Allowed the battery to drain and try running on AC power
Reset the motherboard (using the paperclip/reset button method)
Troubleshooted using the above link
Confirmed that it is out of warranty

The main priorities are trying to get this working again and if not, getting the data from the laptop to allow us to get it onto a new one if necessary.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jesse

A:Inspiron 15z 5523 Notebook - 3 beeps, black screen

Yahooo!! Sorted!!!

Thanks guys for all your help! It's really appreciated!

A few things that I noticed. In terms of getting it restarted when the three beeps were happening:
1. There were no clear "this will always work" instructions. Doing the right thing will work sometimes and not others.
2. The most consistent method I had which resulted in not just clearing the beeps, but a successful boot was as follows:
a. Remove CMOS battery.
b. Either Remove main battery, or move the little switch under the keyboard (to the left) into the off position. This just disconnects the battery.
c. Press and hold the power button to drain the capacitors (Now that the cover is off, this is just a tiny silver button...so you'll need a screwdriver or something to easily press it....preferable an electrical screwdriver!)
d. Leave the computer in this state for some time. At least 10 minutes, but if you're having difficult, do it overnight. I've no idea why this delay should be necessary, especially after draining the capacitors, but it seemed to help make it more consistent.
e. Put the CMOS battery back in, and either put the main battery back in or slide the little switch under the keyboard back to on.
f. Again wait 10-15 minutes. I've no idea why this seemed to help, but it did. Perhaps the CMOS battery does something after being reinserted.
g. Do NOT connect any USB drive. Inserting a USB drive triggers a startup in this case. Instead you should just c... Read more

Hello there. I have a dv7 notebook with Win 7 Home Premium installed on it. Everything is running fine, except a couple of days ago the notebook began to take too damn long to boot up when restarting or just when powering it on.

I noticed it gets "stuck" on a black screen, just like a blank DOS screen, for about 2 minutes before booting up Windows.

I have tried downloading new BIOS from HP website, resetting the BIOS settings, changing the boot order but nothing really works. It always stays on the black screen for around two minutes and then Windows boots up normally. No text is shown, nothing at all.

Does anyone has any clues on what it could be?

Thanks!!!

A:Notebook stuck for 2 mins on black screen before booting up

You may have a driver problem.

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode? If your computer starts OK then, we can start investigating why it's not starting normally.

To get into Safe Mode tap the F8 key at startup. In case you're wondering, when you run in Safe Mode you're not loading drivers.

Hi,

I've had my ASUS K55A laptop for just over a year now.

I was using it fine one night, turned it off correctly and went to sleep.

The next day I went to use it and when I turned it on it only displayed a black scree (no display).

I can't even hear the fan or eject the disc tray.

I've tried it with the battery and without, with the charger plugged in and without.

All the LED Symbol lights flash green apart from the battery light which flashes orange when the battery is connected and even when it's disconnected.

I've tried the holding my finger on the power button to drain the battery but it didn't work either.

I've ordered a new battery as I've read that some laptops can only function properly with a battery....

Anyone got and advise or diagnostics?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance.

The bsod reminds me of what the screen looks like when coming out of standby, just before the images start appearing, which leads me to believe that it has something to do with a standby glitch.

Anyways, any help that you guys could provide is very much appreciated.

Hello, I suggest you summarize the actual problem a little more, and go here and run the program mentioned for all the logs then add them to the thread.

Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

That notebook of yours is POOR according to what I scared up.
Performance wise, that Notebook is going to be slow, even coming out of hibernation.

You are using the power brick it came with?

You have defragged the hard drive?

Check your laptop specs while on via CPU-Z and GPU-Z free from cpuid.com

You are right if just black screen on booting, drivers issue or RAM issue most likely, the logs will give us better knowledge, so get them here ASAP!

Overclocking wise, doubtful done without you involved.

I would get to your RAM and make sure it's seated well and not covered in dust/dirt/grime, including the contacts, of course don't have the laptop plugged in, or battery in, and handle the ram only on edges and ground yourself before touching them, ESD procedure you can look up for yourself.

I would bet you have RAM issue at this point, fortunately one of the easiest fixes, yours is DDR2 SDRAM. (SO-DIMMs most likely, not regular sticks, those won't do)

Last week the office manager at my job went to lunch and upon returning found her ASUS i5 laptop frozen solid.  She did a hard shut down and tried to restart, when the computer came back on, it was a black screen that said "failure to connect media".  I turned off the computer and removed the HD.  I plugged the hd into an external connection kit to my laptop and found that it was emitting a clicking sound and wouldn't load.. so I know the HD is bad.  I burnt Ubuntu to a DVD rom and put that into the computer, I then changed the boot method to booting from the DVD drive.  When the computer restarted it came up with a black screen with nothing on it.  I removed the DVD and tried to reboot, the same thing happened.  I went out and purchased a new HD and tried to reboot, the system lights are on, but still a black screen.

I have taken out the battery, HD, and let the PC sit for about 30 minutes and then tried to reboot, same black screen.  Today I brought in a USB diagnostic tool and used it on the computer without the HD in it.  The code that displayed on the LCD was 'FF' which is a boot issue and usually points to the HD, correct?  I also plugged the laptop to an external VGA monitor, nothing came up, so I know the screen is not dead.  The laptop is only 9 months old.

Right now the only thing useful I can use this PC for is a paper weight.  Any ideas on how to solve the issues at hand?  ... Read more

Hi,
Got my Laptop for a year now and starting to have a strange problem since
I installed Vista.
I have installed all the drivers from the asus page an some newer ones from realtek and other ones. Everything on the last version.

Now my problem:
When I close the lid the screen turns black as it should but then doesnt turn on when opening it again. It stays black.
Got linux on a different partition where it works perfectly so I think its not a hardware problem like I first thought. I first tried everything in the energy options under vista to figure out if anything changes but you can only choose what the screens should do when closing the lid not when opening it ;)
I have no clue what I could do right now. Probably its a software failure that can only be fixed with a fresh Vista install, but thats the last thing I want to do.
If you need the specs of the laptop just tell me. My graphics is a GeForce Go 7600

I appreciate every suggestion or clue =)

Thanks in advance

The things i have tried so far:

So my 2 year old satellite screen appears "dead". The system boots fine (XP) and I can see everything when attached to external monitor.

Is this video connection? screen? other? where should I have this repaired? THanks.

A:black screen - Toshiba notebook - boots fine with external monitor

Tricky........

Are you sure that you have not accidently switched to mode where your laptop is only displaying to external monitor. you should find instructions in handbook. See if both external monitor and Main screen show up on display properties, make sure you know how to switch back to your external monitor if it does not automatically find and display on external monitor first.

if the default monitor montor setting is not the problem then your screen has failed and you will need to have your screen replaced. if you still have warranty then send it back to manufacturer or where you purchaced it from.

No warranty? then take to local computer shop, (shop around dont just go to PC World or major outlet)
Laptop displays are very expensive.

two blinks is corrupt BIOS. Connect the power adapter to the notebook and the hold down the Windows key and the B key at the same time. It may take a full minute or so of holding down the two keys, but you should  see an onscreen message responce that says that it is recovering the BIOS.

Hey, I got an asus g75vw laptop.
I purchased an SSD a few days ago, my laptop now uses both the SSD and HDD, today it started up fine i however got a message from smartscreen? windows 10 saying my drive needed to be checked or something, well it checked the drives after that i got a blue screen which said: select your keyboard language, i selected VN international upon which it didn't respond, i just pressed the power button off to shut it off that way since i had to leave quickly, after i came back a few hours later that's when it didn't work anymore.

This happens when i click the power button:
These lights come on: power, the lock? button and the HDD light, however this one turns off after 5~ seconds.
My screen is black for the entire duration, no logo no nothing, i can't go into BIOS either.

What i've tried:
- Removing the HDD and SSD multiple times, starting up with only the HDD only the SSD with both etc
- Turning all the power off, removed the battery and charger, pressing it down for 60 seconds and restarting with only the charger back plugged in, i did this for 4~ times.
- I tried removing the battery for an hour or so and nothing.
- I removed everything, battery ssd hdd and let it stay for an hour, also nothing
- I tried using an external monitor but you can already guess, nothing

If anyone got any tips on how to fix this that'll be awesome!

Hello everyone! My name is kenny and I am here to solve this mysterious and painful situation that has befallen onto me. While watching an episode of an anime, my computer strangely closed all browsers and shutsdown on me without warning. At first, I was confused wondered what exactly happened... Not knowing what to do, I attempted to turn on my computer. The computer turned on and the Asus logo did appear, but then a black screen arrived along with a flashing underscore on the top left hand corner. It remained in this postion for what seemed like an eternity. As a result, I tried mashing the f keys on startup to see if those would yield results. f3-f12 keys did not function on startup, only f2 and 1 did and they took me to the BIOS. Ctrl+alt+delete just rebooted when the screen was black. I then decided to look up solutions for this quagmire. So I guess I'll list what I have done:

A) Went to BIOS and made sure that my HDD was on primary boot.
B) Searched for a Boot booster, but did not find one
C)Restored BIOS to original settings (Worth the try). Did not work.

I then went on to use my windows 7 usb.

by using windows 7 installation usb that I have, I:
1) Tried to recover to an earlier date, it failed.
2) Tried to reinstall windows 7. It installed but I did not get to activate it because it does not let me past the black screen.
3) Format my OS partition and then reinstall windows 7, still nothing.
4) Went to CMD and did the following commands:
"chkdsk /r" ... Read more

After running the windows 8.1 update (amongst others) my laptop started being a bit glitchy but nothing major . A couple of days later I also noticed a screw was missing in the back and I didn't find it for a few days so the corner where the body attaches to the screen was popping off a little. I'm not sure which of these caused my problem.

Anyway, while using the computer chrome froze and the whole desktop wouldn't respond, so eventually I forced the computer to shut down by holding the power button (ctrl+alt+del wasn't working either)

When I went to turn my laptop back on, the power button light up and the backlight came on but it's simply a black screen with a moveable cursor. As I knew it was low on battery, I unplugged the charger and allowed itself to run down so that it could shut down completely. I then turned it back on and plugged it in - the asus logo came up and then it went to the black screen again. I've also noticed when I have my computer turned on it still makes the noise when I receive a Facebook message.

Is there anything I can do to fix this or does it need to be repaired?

Hey I'm new to this forum! I just joined so I could be able to post about an issue I'm having with my notebook laptop. I completely wiped the computer clean and back to factory settings and had 3 malware test scan the whole computer and everything is clean!

The laptop startsup into OS and can stay on for a good 10 mins without freezing if left alone. When the computer does freeze it freezes my screen so nothing is moving including the mouse cursor, Sometimes it'll just go to a black screen but the computers fans and keyboard lights are still on. I feel like it could be a ram or hard drive thing only cause I've gotten messages like this one before when just starting up the computer before windows logo even pops up.

And a random blue screen of death one time but rarely ever that.

Any ideas on how I could stop the freezing? Really need this laptop for school!

Hello all,

Weird one. I have a Win7 64bit computer with 3 users: myself, my wife, and my son. When myself or my son are logged in and the monitor goes black (power save) all one has to do is type on the keyboard or move the mouse to get the login screen. However, when my wife is logged in and the monitor goes black (power save)..moving the mouse or pressing on the keyboard has zero effect. She has to press CTRL-ALT-DEL for the screen to "wake up" and give her the login screen.

Any ideas on how to get hers to function like my own?

Thanks,
Dan

I have a friends Asus x54h laptop that is not booting, and it is droving me crazy.

What is happening:
When the power button is pressed the fan turns on and some indicator lights turn on including the hard drive indicator light. Then the disc drive makes a noise and the hard drive indicator light turns off. Here is a picture of the indicator lights:

Nothing ever shows up on the screen.
Sometimes after running 1-5 minutes the laptop will just completely turn off.

What I have tried:
-Booting with just the power cord connected.

-Booting with just the battery connected.

-Taking out the battery and unplugging the power cord and holding the power button for 40 seconds, then plug in and try to boot again.

-Attaching a screen and pushing the keyboard buttons to add an additional screen. Nothing showed up on it.

-Taking it's hard drive and putting it in a good laptop. It booted into Windows and ran without issues.

-Replacing the current stick of ram with a new one from crucial.com. This laptop only has one RAM slot and I don't have any compatible RAM so I had to just buy one. I put it in, and nothing happened differently. Also, if I remove the RAM completely nothing happens differently. This made me think that there might be an issue with the RAM slot. I looked at it, and there seems to be something a little weird about one of the connectors. Here is a picture:

Hello,
First of all I'd like to apologize for every grammar mistake I will make as english is not my native language.
Secondly, I want to assure you that I have read multiple similar topics, which none of helped me or I am just not as technically advanced to handle the vast sea of actions and information provided, but I have done more than a few things.

But lets start with the problem:

I was playing a game while listening to music and surfing through youtube meaningless videos when the screen froze. I tried to CTRL+ALT+DELETE to end any of the processes so maybe it would relief laptop of any extra graphical burden, anyway it failed, computer didnt respond to any type of commands, nor the previously mentioned CTRL+ALT+DELETE nor ALT+F4 or ALT-Tabbing into desktop screen.
One thing led to another I pressed once the power button, screen gone black but the music kept playing for some reason. Usually it hibernates and after pressing it again goes to login screen, which did not happen this time. With little choice to make I have pressed the power button for longer period of time so it would shut the system down, and then the nightmare began.

System boots then shows me two options: start normally or start Windows Repair, first results in loading up the a quick flash of blue screen (I cannot see whats written in it) the second one results in Windows loading files then just going into black screen with a cursor on it. In addition keyboard commands are not responding, I ca... Read more

Hello,

When I try, on Windows XP, to switch user (between 2 administrator accounts) going through run – close session – switch account (or something like this, my OS is not in English), I get a black screen from which I cannot exit without starting again my computer. If I close the first session before opening the second one, it’s OK. This problem came after installing SP3, but I cannot restore because the system tells me nothing has been changed.

I've just opted to create a second account (local) on my Windows 8.1 laptop. After proceeding through the wonderful coloured screens I am greeted with a black screen and moveable cursor. I can pull up task manager but I am not able to start explorer. No excessive activity seems to be present (and therefore I'm assuming it's not simply stuck in a loop). This persists across logins and restarts. My first user account on this machine still functions as expected. This also persists following deleting the new account and creating a new one in its place.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Sorry if this has been answered before, but I can only find non-working solutions for a similar problem after a Win10 install, which is not my situation.

So, I have Win10 installed for 2 months, upgrading from Win7, no issues. Last week all of a sudden (I suspect update, however could not find signs of a computer restart) my main (Admin) profile turns up a black screen. App announcements show, opening a new process shows, but basically all my navigational aids are gone.

Starting up Explorer.exe tells me it cannot be started and halts the computer untill I close the process again.

Since I have been using this account for over 8 years, copying or moving stuff to a newly created account (which works perfectly fine, btw) is not the road I want to take. Hope anyone can help me.

Thx in advance.

I seem to love clean boot today, LOL

Try booting to windows via a Clean Boot, then try the switch user, does the problem persist? If it works fine, then you know it is a third party application or service causing the problem.

If it doesn't fix the problem, hit the manufacturer of your pc for updated drivers.

Check the event log for errors around the time you tried to switch users.

Quick info(summed the text below in points);
* Happens after he logs in to his administrator account. (his own computer)
* WinXP Pro SP2
* Happened after finishing a download of an anime episode using Bitlord(probably latest release)
* Hardware unknown. (possible updated later)

Hi, first of all I searched forum and looked through various topics to find if someone else had this problem. I found people who had black screen problems BEFORE login screen even appeared.
Second of all this problem is not on my computer, I am looking for help to be able to help my brother out which lives about 16 miles from here and suddenly got this problem after downloading an anime episode.
I'm not entirely sure what anime it was but I assume it doesn't matter since he never even started the file so there is no way it could suddenly jump his computer without even being executed. Just for the record I believe it was either [Eclipse] Claymore, [DB] Naruto, [DB] Bleach or [K-F] One Piece where only the Claymore episode would be downloaded from a public tracker.
Right now I'm not sure what hardware he uses and since he doesn't keep much track of what he has, he just play games most of the time. (he usually gets help from various people to chose good parts)
- Not dual core
- XP SP2
- Motherboard supports crossfire gfx
- Over 3 ghz processor
- Over or around 500 GB disc storage.

Hi All,

I logged into a computer as an administrator to install an application client, citrix client, on a users computer. The installation went successfully and worked fine on the administrator account, however, when the user try to login in to the computer the computer goes black screen after welcome message and stay black until it gets shutdown manually. Nothing works in this state of black screen, ctrl+alt+del etc doesn't work, although the mouse cursor is visible and movable - thats it.

Technicals;

1. Windows 7 Pro 64 bit OEM / HP probook.
2. The user has administrator privilieges.
3. The user can login in safe mode, but a restore to a previous restore point didn't work.
4. sfc /scannow completes without any errors.
5. Windows update doesn't work in users safe mode with network. Shouldn't it supposed to be working?
6. Tried Prevx fix for black screen / explorer not running.
7. User is on company AD domain so i need the user account to be working again.
8. Disabling all startup programs doesn't help.
9. Administrator account works fine with normal login / drivers loaded etc.

Any suggestions on how to either fix the problem or get the user account to work again?

Thank you!

Nicolai

Hello Nicolai, welcome to SF!

A question, as I don't know how you AD is setup...
Would it be possible for you to save the users local data if any, and completely re-create that user on the pc?
That might be easier than finding a UAC / AD authorization issue

So recently I decided to try to update my display drivers for my Asus Radeon HD 7770 Graphics card in hopes that it would fix some problems I was having. After I finished the update and rebooted there was a black border around my screen.

I have dual monitors, one monitors (the one with the black border) resolution is 1920x1080 and is connected via HTMI and the others is 1680x1050 and is connected via DVI. Only the monitor with the resolution of 1920x1080 has the black border not the second one.

I have also done a lot of research on how to fix this and the most common solution seemed to be to change the overscan settings but I do not have the normal Catalyst Control Center i have something called AMD Vision Engine Control Center and when I open that and go the the display settings the only option is HydraVision which does not seem to have any options to help me.

And one last thing, it seems like the image might be a bit fuzzy or blurry but that might just be a result of the smaller image.

If there are any questions just ask and I will answer them to the best of my ability.
Update : Also, I did check my physical monitors settings and it is set to full and not overscan.
Update 2: - OS is Windows 7 64-Bit
Update 3: I woul rather not roll back the drivers as they were starting to cause problems too.

Hello fuzzystone, Welcome to TSF!

You can only have one Administrator Account opened at any given time with XP.
Closing off the first Administrator Account Session, and starting the second one is quite correct, otherwise the system will not function correctly.
