There should be more information. Is it saying there is no boot device? The amount of system memory has changed? When was the last time you were able to successfully boot the system?

How to turn windows firewall off? I can't click the Turn Windows Firewall On or Off

A:How to turn windows firewall off? I can't click the Turn Windows Firew

This may have been disabled on your computer, particularly if you are in a Domain (e.g.: at work, in a library, etc).

However assuming that you have Administrator rights to your computer you should be able to turn it on and off by going to Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall > Turn Windows Firewall on or off.

If you cannot turn the Firewall off through the above approach try the following Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services

Looks for the 'Windows Firewall' Service, double click it, then click on 'Stop'.

From within the Service properties you can also stop the Firewall from starting with Windows, etc.

I had a bunch of infections which have successfully been removed.... The last problem I seem to be having is that when I go to Start and then either click shut down or turn off, the computer starts shutting down and closing the programs in the system tray. However, it never fully closes everything. I have to go to start and click shut down or restart once more, and then immediately it does what I asked.

So not sure if there was a setting or something that may have been corrupted that needs to be changed back or reset.... In case it matters, here are the items in the System Tray:
Volume Icon
Realtek Volume
Avast
Nvidia Settings
HP Imaging
Lexmark Productivity Suite
Nokia PC Suite
Myspace IM
WinVNC
DynDNS Updater

Once I click either shut down or restart, these items are left until I click for it to shut down or restart again:
HP Imaging
WinVNC
Volume Icon
DynDNS Updater

Thanks in advance... if you need further info, let me know. This is Win XP Pro SP2.

Hi

Have an advent modena Win7 with a very sensitive touchpad which keeps clicking while i type due to tap to click.

System sees it as a desktop mouse meaning i don't have access to the setting to turn it off.

Advent do not provide a touchpad manufacturer just say its a multi gesture touchpad

Tried symantic and alps drivers which both see it as a traditional desktop mouse with wheel

Any help would be apriciated

Only thing I am seeing is that the Fn and F3 used together
should disable and enable the touchpad.
If it is a synaptic touchpad the drivers would usually add

I have Win 7 Home Premium.

Is there an easy way to disable my wireless connection so that (a) it does not enable itself after a reboot, and (b) I don't need to implement the complete process to re-enable the wireless?

Under normal circumstances, the re-enable after a reboot is fine. I can disconnect WiFi from the system tray, and it reconnects after reboot.

But sometimes, I might want wireless to remain disabled after reboot. For example, if I'm doing a database restore, and the database starts synching after a reboot (such as Evernote), it could cause problems :-)

At the moment, I simply switch off the router until the database restore is complete.

I have a situation that UAC must be disabled in order to use a web based application features like merging data into MS Word, uploading/downloading within this application. I disabled UAC using GPO to all machines but for the next person
that will log on to the same computer the function of the web application mentioned will not work until the user goes to the Ctrl Panel > User Accounts > User Account Control and click OK on the warning message that says 'This setting will
take effect after you click OK and reboot' . I have like 1200 computer to manage and this causing big problem.

How can I automate using maybe GPO or pushing a register entry or anything you can think to turn off UAC
without a reboot required or even to do auto reboot after the GPO is applied. When this yellow exclamation in Ctrl Panel is ON with a message 'This setting will take effect after you click OK and reboot'  the application will
not work.
This 3rd part vendor are unable to make this application work while UAC is ON and I wonder how other application makers make their app work while UAC is ON.
Thanks you for your help.

I've been getting MANY problems with my computer freezing up on start up whenever I try to turn it on. I'm on a Windows XP Home, Asus k8v delux mobo, Corsair dual 256 Mb RAM, and AMD Athlon 64 3200+

The problem is when it starts up, it's different everytime how it happens...sometimes it happens immediately, sometimes it happens when trying to open programs in the early stages of logging on windows, sometime it happens at logon screen, sometimes it happens 5 minutes after being logged on...but the computer just...freezes...not like your typical freeze, where stuff still runs in the background (like music)...it kinda just dies but stays on...the biggest tell tale sign is the mouse stops working...I use an optical mouse, and the light just goes off...IT's not the mouse because I can't type either...and the fact that programs cease to run anymore. Sometimes it doesn't even lock up...sometimes I get a BSoD, and other times when I boot up, I don't even get to the Motherboard's logo screen...what should be a quick 5 minute or less process, stretches out to close to 20 minutes because it happens numerous times...it's very frustrating and I'm not sure if it's a problem with Windows, or problem with processor, or problem with motherboard...It's a situation I'd like to resolve and would appreciate any help I could get.

Hello,

I've only recently bought a computer with Windows 7, so I'm new to it. I installed my Intuos4 graphics tablet on it, and whenever I use the pen (I often use it for navigating my computer as opposed to the mouse) a little handwriting box for writing notes pops up -- I think it's called the Input Panel -- and upon clicking with the pen there's a "click ring." This is incredibly annoying.

How do I turn off ALL tablet PC settings, including the notes/handwriting box, click ring, and everything else so I can use my tablet without hassle?

Thanks!

A:my laptop wont turn on or reboot

You may need to go into your laptop's BIOS and change the boot order, as soon as you turn your laptop on, look for an option similar to "Press Del to enter Setup".

When you see the option, let the laptop run to the point where it doesn't go any further and reboot it. This time, keep pressing the button you saw earlier - it could be either Del, F2 or any number of keys.

This should load your laptop's BIOS screen. Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, navigate around - being careful not to change any of the options - until you find a section or menu called "Boot Order" or something similar. What you then need to do is fix it so that the CD-ROM drive is above your hard drive in the order, the exact key commands will probably be displayed to you in some kind of help section of the screen.

When you've done this, reboot with the CD in the drive and it should start. If not, try the CD in another computer (just starting up from the CD alone will not do anything to the computer). If it starts and shows a blue "Windows Installation" screen, there's a more serious problem with your laptop.

If this is the case, I would personally recommend sending it back to Philips (or wherver you got it from) and getting it looked at under warranty. Laptop warranties are usually good for a year unless you've dropped it or spilled something on it.

Hope this helps a bit

I've used Firefox, and IE, and on both browsers, the mouse messes up. At first I thought it was the mouse, but the other mice don't work at all. After about five minutes, the mouse pointer moves, but I can't click anywhere on my browser toolbars, only on the website itself. It turns that whitish color like when it's loading, but it can't be, because other problems happen too, like I can't copy/paste, and I can still go on the website. The computer is my moms, so all I really know is this is a Windows XP, and she prefers FireFox. If you need more information, I could probably get it.

A temporary fix is to turn the mouse upside down and flip it right side up, but I have to do this constantly. Which is why I didn't look all that long for a solution, it just got too frustrating.

I have a feeling it's the computer, but I want to be sure.

A:Browsers turn white-ish and I can't click

Can you explain better?I thought I was understanding you until this statement:A temporary fix is to turn the mouse upside down and flip it right side up, but I have to do this constantly. Which is why I didn't look all that long for a solution, it just got too frustrating.Do you mean "physically" turn it "upside down" and then flip it "right side up", or ? If so, then that pretty much screams hardware problem(ex: bad mouse). I don't know what you mean by "turning white" and where you can't "copy and paste", tho. That sounds like a problem with Windows(ex: virus)Is this a laptop or desktop?

If you like for now, you could set to have your displays turned off when idle for one minute. This way they will turn off for you automatically shortly after leaving the PC idle. Display - Turn Off in Windows
If you like, I could easily adjust the tutorial below to only turn off the display and not also lock the computer for you. However, if you move the mouse any at all after clicking on the desktop context menu, it will just turn the display back on again. I have had this problem for quite a while and I just noticed that after reboot, my wheel settings jumps to 14 lines per click. I can set it back to 1,2,3 etc, and it slows, but it has no affect on the REAL problem.

I've seen this problem discussed on the web, but no real resolution without jumping through hoops. I think I know how to fix it, but I need this forum's guidance. This is not a cleaning problem, there seems to be some kind of interference. Here's what happens. In Firefox, I might wheel down a page, but when new lines are about to appear from below, all of a sudden, lines that I've already wheeled past appear at the bottom of the page and start to scroll up. Or.....

In Paint Shop Pro, I might wheel to make the image smaller, it doesn't seem to change and all of a sudden, after further scrolling it snaps to significantly smaller. Same for using the mouse to increase the size of an image on the screen

I've attached an image of the Device Manager. It shows both the microsoft mouse and a "HID Compliant Mouse." If I disable the latter, nothing changes, the problem persists. If I disable the first one, the mouse completely stops working. I don't think this is the problem, I think it is the USB listing.

I attached a pic of the Device Manager listing of USB ports. There are far too many. My HP Entertainment laptop (which I love, BTW) has 3 USB 2 ports and a USB/SATA port (faster than the USB 2s). But look at the Device Manager. It looks like I have between ei... Read more

Ok this is my first post and I would like to say that I have a MAJOR PROBLEM! Whenever I RIGHT CLICK on a Icon/Folder/Editing Pictures (you get the idea) my computer says that Zhotkey.exe is not responding and it shows an hourglass for like 5 mins (or so) and then goes back to my desktop with everything back to normal. Basically to put it in a simple version:

Right click on ANY file, icon, etc. makes me reboot my computer.
ANY IDEAS???

Now onto the Sysdaig64.exe problem.

I REALLY need to know how to remove this program so it DOESN'T keep on showing up when I turn on my computer. I have scanned it with a virus remover AND Norton. STILL THERE!

Make this really easy for me if you know. I am 15 years old and I just want to know the easy way how to get rid of this BIG problem and my Zhotkey.exe problem. It's basically ruined my computer (almost). Everything works, just right clicking on icons and the ANNOYING pop up for running it. I just hit cancel 3 times and it goes away, but like I said it appears Everytime I turn on my computer.

HELP WOULD BE VERY APPRECIATED!

I prefer the click approach on the Apple Macbook Air, where you can click anywhere on the trackpad to get a normal (left) click.  On the Yoga 13, you can click anywhere EXCEPT the lower-right side of the button, where it instead registers a right-click.  Thta's kind of annoying because I have to be aware of where on the trackpad I can click and where I can't. Does anyone know of a way to turn off the right-click area and just make the entire trackpad a left-click? I have already turned off the tap-click ability, so I'm just talking about clicks where you press the surface of the trackpad down.

I'm a newbie to this forum. Just got a new HP Pavilion d6500t with installed Vista Ultimate x64. Has been tough going, but was scraping by until today. I installed Quickbooks (via download) and transferred my data files from my old pc to the new pc. Things seemed fine...then BAM!

The screen became "jumpy" and I received a number of error messages. Could not bring up Task Manager, so I had to shut down the pc manually (turned it off). Reboot involved a system check because of the manual shut-down. System check was fine...but, now my pc is frozen on a black screen with the hp logo in the middle. My choices are the usual: Press <ESC> to enable startup message, <F1> to enter System information...etc.

MY PROBLEM: I cannot go ANYWHERE from here. The F-keys are not responding AND I cannot even manually shut off the pc!

I am a total novice when it comes to pc systems. I need help DESPERATELY. Any suggestions out there?

If you then try to turn the PC on after this failure it won't. The fans whir and the lights come on but there are no beeps on start up and nothing is displayed on my monitor.
I can then get the PC to work by removing the power cable completely, waiting 30 seconds and then attempting to turn back on.
Generally it seems to happen during my syncing of my mp3 player, whilst media player is converting to say WMA format. Or during a compression of a ZIP file. It appears to be through cpu intensive applications. It will also do it on occasions during a full virus scan (Mc Afee INternet Security)
I had major problems a few months back as the "failure" corrupted the boot segment of my drive - which fortunately I was able to recover.
The PC is often on most of the day but during light use or sitting idly by it seems to have no problems.
THere are so many options of what could be at fault - memory, power supply, cpu, bad driver. I don't know where to start.
Is there a way I can create a log of activity to try and see what's causing this? I'd like to start logging of anything useful, start a media sync and see what happens.

Minor but annoying problem here.

I have 2 external 300GB hard drives (IDE type) connected via USB. Let''s call them D drive and E drive.

Well, let's say that I have them both turned on while my system is on and for some reason I have to reboot my system. Well, once my system is rebooted and up and running again I can start using D drive right away. But if I want to use the E drive, I have to turn the drive off then back on again in order for the system to recognize the drive after the system reboot.

It's always been this way ever since I got the drives about 8 months ago or so. I only now just decided to post about it since it's only a minor annoyance.

Anyone know why the D drive is ready to use after a system reboot without having to turn it off then on again whereas the E drive isnot?

Would love the E drive to behave like the D drive, of course.

Thanks.

Hello Rockit,

The problem is that the registry setting for this is a binary value that includes other settings that will vary per user account, and can't have a universal on/off for everyone without affecting the other settings.

If you like, you could use OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to help create a couple of .bat files or a script to toggle taskbar auto-hide on/off.

I'm looking for some help on this one.
I just installed SP3 on my HP and everything appeared to go well. Then as directed I installed the additional security updates. However, everytime I click the "Turn Off Computer" button it will display the message to Click turn off to install important updates...... I have done this several times & the message keeps appearing.

I've restored to the point following the SP3 install, no luck.
I have also removed an SQL update (KB948109) which I thought may be the problem, still no luck.

I can't seem to get rid of the message..... Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My reboot time for Vista is about 3 minutes, starting just a week ago.

The screen hangs at the 'shutting down" for about a 1 min & 45 sec.

I uninstalled the software I thought it made the difference, but that was not it.

I also installed Manhunt & Fable in that week, but I'm not uninstalling those, even if they are the guilty.

On the performance information, there's nothing that mentions slow shutdowns, but there's a mention of slow boot-up, even though it takes like 30 sec.

Thanks for any solutions.

Hey all,

I've been running my windows XP for a couple of years on a regular basis installing programs, removing them etc.
I've come to notice that when I right click a file (video, song, word document etc.) the menu takes a very long time to come up (can go from 5 to 25 seconds). The same case goes for deleting a file. When I press the DEL key, the yes/no message takes ages to appear.
What is causing this?
Is there a tweak to change the pop-up speed like for the programs when I hit the start button?
Is there a program that can clear useless clutter efficiently to avoid these sort of lags?

Thanks in advance,

Ed

I have searched all over the internet and these forums, and it seems many people are searching the same thing. How do I turn off the mouse auto click when it hovers over a link in a web page. I downloaded the windows 10 and it has started doing this. I can't find a thing anywhere about this issue. I have an Asus laptop and a Toshiba laptop and they are both doing this since getting the windows 10. I spend more time going back to my original page than I get to read the original page! Try shopping and reading a description. Taking a test online was challenging to say the least.

Getting straight to the point. I have windows vista ultimate with sp1, my motherboard is an abit in9 32max wifi. Around a couple of months ago my network connection started crashing without any reason at all and the only way to restore it back was by rebooting. Basically i get disconnected from my network and afterwards when i start searching for networks i can't find any. I am not using the wifi but the ethernet and when i lose network connectivity the ethernet cable is still working since the lights are still going on. Pinging the router or connecting to it is not possible. It's as if no ethernet cable was connected, and even if i switch to the other ethernet port nothing changes. Crashes occur pretty randomly, i can have one after 20 minutes or after 10 hours. On top of that i also have another computer with windows vista ultimate connected to the same network and i have no problems with that one, so i can safely assume that is not a router/switch problem.

I ve tried doing a memtest and i couldn't find out any memory problems.
I ve tried formatting and reinstalling windows and that didn't work out as well
I have all the latest drivers for my motherboard

I am out of ideas and i don't know what else to do so i would really appreciate a hand . Thanks in advance

A:No network at all need to reboot every time

Hi there,

The sudden loss of network connectivity and internet was a previous bug in windows vista but that was rectified with sp1. Does your windows vista have sp1 installed if not update vista with windows update to sp1. also still if this is the problem you would need to check you hardware try inseting a another netowrk card and check to see if the problem still arieses.

Hope this help

Have you tryed typing " Msconfig" in the run dialog box and going to the start up tab and deselecting programs that startup that you know you do not need? Also there could be alot of bloated hardware or in other words preinstalled hardware that could also be slowing your system down. Im sure there are a bunch of other things that could possibly be the problem but thats all I can think off right now.

OK, I am running XP pro and all the latest updates.
computer boots up normally and everything runs fine until I try to right click on a file or folder, anywhere on the drive.

The first time I do it I get the context menu like I am supposed to get. the next time I click on a file or folder the screen goes blank for a half a second and then comes back on and has to reload the programs in my systray.

I have already run my nortons AV and it finds nothing. Can't complete a scan from trend micro but it doesn't say it found anything (hangs prior to summary page). pandas active scan finds nothing. Adware finds nothing.

Also if I highlight a folder or file and push the delete key, have the same results. Only deletes every other time the key is pushed.

Any Ideas?

Hi , some friends of mine have two computers, one running windows 98SE and one running windows XP. They are sharing the internet with a simple switch. They are on cable . They are allowed two ip addresses. Their cable router goes immediately into the switch and then to their two computers. It is a wired setup. It worked perfectly until recently when the windows 98SE computer could not get online. Cable technician told them to reboot the switch and then reboot the computer which worked but now they find they must do this every time the windows 98SE computer wants to go online. It works but what a pain. Has anyone got any ideas please? Or should this be in hardware. I've been working overtime and just spent a week ( night and day) in a nursing home watching my mother pass away and am too tired too think right now so someone please help.

Try swapping the port on the switch that's used by the two computers, and also try a different cable on the W98 computer.

Okay, so I set my taskbar at the top of the screen (I can't stand it at the bottom) among other thing (such as customizing the start menu, changing folder view options, removing fancy visual effects, etc.). But, every time that I reboot, I end up with about 70% of my setting factory-reset... Or, almost. I could upload some screenshots if anybody requests them... But, it's really annoying. And it's getting old. Anyway, if anybody could help at all, that would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks in advance,

I can't get WindowsXP Home SP2 to recognize successive CD's when placed in my CD-ROM drive. It only recognizes the first CD placed in the drive. Therefore I can't install multi-CD applications. When I put the second CD in, it spins up, but windows explorer still shows the files from the first CD, and if I click on one of the files it of course can't access it. I have to reboot to get it to recognize the next CD. I am having this problem on all of my PC's, not just one (some Intel, some AMD), and they have different CD/DVD-ROM drives, so it must be an XP problem. Please help. Thanks.

Hello I am md23012. My computer is sickI guess I picked up some sort of virus/malware or whatever around a week ago that is causing IE redirects. It seems to only occur if I click on a link. If I type in a specific URL then it goes to it fine. If I'm searching google and click on any of the links then most (not all, but most) of the time it redirects to something else. I've followed the instructions per the "Preperation Guide Before Posting a HijackThis Log" and I still seem to have the problem. I've recently bought a HP8710w and i've installed Vista Business 64bit on it. After a while for some reason the USB ports don't work when I reboot. In the Device manager section, the usb's have the yellow exclemation marks. The only way i can get them to work is to disable all and then enable them. It's quite annoying to have to disable and enable the 6 usb ports everytime i reboot. Any solution to this?

Every time I reboot my computer, the proxy server setting gets switched on.
It drove me crazy the first time it happened, now that I know what it is, it's just an annoyance.
What is doing this, and how do I stop it?
According to some preliminary research I did, some people fingered Visual Studio as the culprit, but nobody had a fix. I'm using Visual Studio 2013, Windows 7 x64

Hi all!
It makes several months am using Windows 7 Professional on my Dell Studio XPS 1640 (it's a 64bit system). It was working fine and I was happy with it.
It makes some weeks now that after each time I shut down, when I turn on again, it boots up to where the 4 coloured logo appears and then am left with a dark screen with only the cursor. I once waited for nearly 1 hour, nothing changed. The users screen never appeared.

I had to turn off manually, and when I turn it on again, it tell me that windows failed to restart.... and am left with these 2 options:
>start Windows Normally(I went back to square 1 when I tried this)
>Startup Repair.

The automatic system repair did not find any problem, I had to use the system recovery for which I had to choose a previous date in time to which I want the computer to reboot. Some times it works, sometimes I have to do it again and change the date.

When I hibernate the laptop, there is no problem when I turn it on again. But when I shut down or restart the laptop, it boots up to the "starting windows" screen with the windows logo and I have to turn it off manually.

It is causing me a lot of problem, I cannot install any program, each time I have to reinstall my printer.

Please is there any solution for such a problem?

A:Windows does not reboot after each time I shutdown.

Sounds like a hardware problem. Could be the motherboard but more then likely the hard drive is starting to fail. Try replacing the hard drive and see if you can reinstall a good working copy of 7 on it and that it starts up properly after shut down.

Hi,

I have a Dells desktop pc. All works great and then at any given time, the screen goes black. When it goes black, I can hear the sound of the CD drive starting up. Nothing I can do except to reboot it. It could then be working fine for hours or mins and then it'll happen again. I run windows XP & keep it virus free with Kaspersky antivirus. I also do maintenance cleanup with , PC Rescue v4.0 & System Mechanic Professional 6. Both fans in the back run.

Any ideas?

A:Solved: OE - EVery time I click Send/Rec..

I've seen this with our company email provider. It all depends on how the host email server stores the messages. The first time you sync OE and your email, it might DL a ton of them that it thinks are "new". After that first push of emails, you should only get the new ones as they arrive.

Questions:
1) Who is your email provider you are using OE through?
2) Do they have a web-mail client interface?

I've been having this problem for about a month and a half. Every time i reboot my machine, the date and time get change. At first the month would get changed to january , and the time would change exactly 1 hour back of the real time. The day and year were fine. That was in october. Now that its november and the daylight saving took place. The time is fine, but the month still gets rolled back but February. It seems to go back 9 months from the current month for some reason.

I've ran Registry Mechanic, fixed all the probs that it found, but it didn't help this prob.
I've ran Anti virus' programs - nothing
I've ran Spyware removers - nothing

So I'm kinda out of ideas now and any help would be appreciated.

thanks in advance,

A:On Reboot The Date And Time Change

This is usually a problem caused by a dead battery on the motherboard. They are inexpensive and easy to change. You can see the procedure on this site. Don't worry about writing down the CMOS settings, it not required IMHO.

Hi i am new here, resently my computer's time keeps resetting after reboot, i am still have this problem even after i reformat my HD. The year keeps resetting to 2005 and the day and month stay the same. Before the format the year only reset after reboot, but now it even starts to reset during use.

I tried to search for answers online but the only ones i seem to get is "cmos battery needs changing", i am pretty sure there is nothing wrong with the battery because in my bios the year is always at 2008. I also noticed every time i reboot, right after startup my time would be set at 2008, but after 30 seconds it would swap back to 2005, could this because of a virus or spyware?

Can anyone here help with my problem?
