windows 10 update from version 1511 to 1607 anniversary update - does not update

Q: windows 10 update from version 1511 to 1607 anniversary update - does not update

Hello all.
Running windows 10 pro 64 bit.
I've updated from Version 1511 to the anniversary update, 1607.
Or at least, I thought I did.
The update went well, no hiccups, no errors. Used windows update, let it downloaded and install and rebooted. Alas, system still shows OS Version 1511.
Used update again, same thing, rebooted, 1511.
Went to the windows site, downloaded the windows10upgrade9252.exe, ran it, same exact issue, rebooted, still showing version 1511.
Error logs show no issues. Disabled all external drives, turned off anti-virus, etc, repeated, rinsed, rebooted, still version 1511.
Only think I've not done is burned an ISO to DVD and updated from that.
Any clues as to what's going on?
Thanks!
Nelson Davis

Can you check to see what OS version you have? Check in settings > system > OS build. It should show something like 14393.5 or 14393.10

I have tried multiple times times to install the Windows 10 Pro, Anniversary Update to my desktop computer, a Dell Inspiron 560. Every time, the result has been a computer that will not start-up, ie. Windows does not appear to load/run. I have tried the WURepair tool and tried to repair the System Registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Windows NT>ProfileList, all to no avail. I have had to restore my system with an previous Image to get it operational again. Has anybody else had this problem and been able to come up with an answer?

A:Trouble trying to install Windows 10 Anniversary Update, version 1607

Hello JRAllen72653 Welcome to the Ten Forums!

One advice I can provide here would be to try a different method for either update by upgrade or planned clean install which doesn't seem to be what you have been looking for. When the Redstone 1 update didn't even arrive here for 3 separate desktops as well as a recently new laptop where 10 came already on not seeing the update still lead to fail of the MC Tool to see the immediate online upgrade take place or create the usb media needed.

Twin solutions were then sought! The first in order to see all machines updated was to download the "windows.iso" by way of the MC Tool which equals both the 32bit and 64bit flavors for both the Home and Pro editions. We call that a "4 in 1" type of download that covers everyone.

The second item on the agenda did opt to use a 3rd party program not the Windows option to mount the iso downloaded onto each machine or run from a flash drive where the setup.exe main executable would be manually started to watch each upgrade install take place. Once all systems were set which included one desktop only lately being upgraded from 7 Home Premium to 10 Home and then still waiting for the update to go on before return to owner was to visit a MS download iso type page to grab both the 32bit and 64bit smaller Dual Edition iso downloads to keep onhand.

For a final fix to all older already made up flash drives for the Threshold 2 update last November as well as for Windows Insider P... Read more

Windows 10 Version 1607 driver signing changes - gHacks Tech News

(hit link ^^ for entire story, snippet below):

Microsoft announced recently that the upcoming version 1607 of Windows 10, known as the Anniversary Update, will only load kernel mode drivers that are digitally signed by Microsoft.

The change won't affect all systems however the company notes, as only new installations are affected in the beginning.

Starting with new installations of Windows 10, version 1607, the previously defined driver signing rules will be enforced by the Operating System, and Windows 10, version 1607 will not load any new kernel mode drivers which are not signed by the Dev Portal.

The list of exceptions to the new policy is long. Below is the most important information in regards to the new kernel mode drivers policy:
PCs upgraded to Windows 10 Build 1607 from a previous version of Windows (for instance Windows 10 version 1511) are not affected by the change.
PCs without Secure Boot functionality, or Secure Boot off, are not affected either.
All drivers signed with cross-signing certificates that were issued prior to July 29, 2015 will continue to work.
Boot drivers won't be blocked to prevent systems from failing to boot. They will be removed by the Program Compatibility Assistant however.
The change affects only Windows 10 Version... Read more

A:Windows 10 Version 1607 (Anniversary Update) driver signing changes

This is kind of old news in that this change was announced last year but got delayed. I'm not sure what the practical implications are in that anyone loading unsigned drivers probably doesn't have Secure boot on. This one is a non-issue.

Hello. . .
I use the fingerprint reader to login to my Latitude E5550 every time.  However, I was unable to do so after the latest Windows 10 update (version 1607).

It did still show in the Windows Device Manager (i.e., no "Unknown Device" listed)
I went into the DDP Console to try to register a new fingerprint (for troubleshooting), but it wasn't reading the swipes
I attempted to update to the latest firmware/drivers, but that only caused unknown devices to show up in the Device Manager (ControlVault Firmware v3.3.15.0 and ControlVault Drivers v3.3.14.68)
Switched back to the older driver (v3.0.48.26) and all devices were once again recognized

Any suggestions for how to get around this?  It's not the end of the world, but I *really* like using the fingerprint reader (I paid extra for) to login.  If I can provide additional helpful information, please let me know.
Thanks!

A:Window 10 Anniversary Update Version 1607

Hi,Firstly I'd like to clarify: I'm not working for any hardware or software vendor. Your printer/scanner had been working perfectly for few years or even decades and now it won't do anything or only few things because of a new Operating system.Microsoft, Apple will never say "Warning: Using this new product, your existing hardware may NOT work at all". They only say their new products will blah blah ....They promise everything then put all the unhappiness, blames to hardware vendors.I believe developing new products is much cheaper than supporting older products and each product must have a life cycle, it must die loudly or quietly and the Operating systems will kill our hardware quicker. Many people just upgrade for a sake of the "bleeding edge", never know and/or research what the existing investments at home will work or not.Just my 2 cents.

Hello, fine people of the internet.

First thing, I apologize if this subject have been solved before.
I browsed through older threads for a while, and looked up on Google, but so far I didn't find a solution to my problem, or maybe I missed it.

I'm here because I'm encountering troubles since a couple days, when I installed the Windows 10 anniversary update.

Let me start from the beginning.

A month ago, I bought myself a new, quite powerful MSI laptop.
The main purpose of this laptop is musical production, using Cubase 8 and a couple of other programs.
For a few weeks, everything worked perfectly fine.
This new laptop allowed me to expand dramatically the possibilities of Cubase compared to my old system.
I could run big projects with 60+ tracks, heavy plug-ins and fancy virtual instruments super smoothly.

But a few days ago, the Windows 10 anniversary update installed itself, and since then, I'm having trouble with my programs.
For instance, Cubase shows heavy signs of CPU and RAM usage (called VST performances, in the program itself.
In the task manager, the CPU peaks at 20-25%) on another project I started a week ago or so, comprising 20 tracks, which used to run extremely smoothly (the said VST performances weren't reaching 2% before the update), but now performs super bad (VST performances now show a 20-25% resources usage when the project is loaded but idle, and the counter will suddenly ramp up to 100%, either if the project is idle or playing back, causing mass... I installed Windows 10 around the time it came out, much to my delight I faced no problems with it, but now after reading about this 'November Update' that touts many of the features I wanted back. I read on Microsoft's own site that to get the update I would have to of had Windows 10 for 31+ Plus days e.g. a day over the time limit to go back to Win 8.1 or 7. It's long past the 31 days but the "Go back to Windows 7" is still there?

To stop onedrive.exe crashing (or any other applications you have set in the application protections list that are crashing) you need to toggle the security setting in EMET, which for some odd reason fixes it.  For example:
1) Turn 'Certificate Pinning' to the opposite of what you currently have it set to, or change the 'Block Untrusted Fonts' to one of the other settings other than what you have it currently set to.  That makes the Quick Profile Name change to 'Custom

I have Windows 10 Pro Version 1511, OS Build 10586.589.

Windows continually attempts to download and install the anniversary upgrade.
The download completes, but the installation fails with error code 0x800700c1.
This has happened more than 50 times.
(As appears quite common, I have never experienced an update error before.)

I have tried every suggested fix I can find - nothing works.
I have tried installing from 1607 ISO - fails
I have tried installing using Windows10Upgrade28084.exe - fails
I have tried letting Microsoft Support have a go - fails

I am unable to find the meaning of the error code above, so there seems to be no way to effect action here.
Does anybody have any knowledge on this one?

A:Still can't update to windows 10 Home, version 1511, 10586.

You had been using Windows Update which you have failed to install 10586.

Consider trying the other method also recommended by Microsoft itself.
Download the Media Creation Tool (MCT)

Make sure you select the same language, same bit version and same Windows Edition as the one you are now running.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

Once it is downloaded, run the Tool > select Create installation media for another PC.
That will begin downloading the ISO file to your computer.
When it is downloaded, right click at the ISO file > click Mount > click Setup.exe.
That will begin installing.
You have the choice of keeping your settings, files and apps, or keeping nothing.
No product key is required.
Activation is automatic.

Ive tried every possible guide and solution I could find, including applying the update from a full offline installer, nothing works.

I have a different laptop that had no problems at all with this particular update. Just for the sake of clarity the ONLY thing I changed in this Windows installation was changing the directory of user files, if that's whats causing it I would happily change it back.

I would change it back and then see if you are then able to install the update.
If it still does not do it then you can always revert back to what you changed
Remember before you do create a restore point.

Hi,
I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem after the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.
When restarting, my laptop takes 5 minutes (no, that's not a misprint) to bootup. More specifically, that's the time taken from pressing the On button to the time I get to the login screen. I have an SSD drive in the laptop. While I am waiting for this to happen, the drive light is permanently on with no flickering. That's a LOT of drive access / throughput.
From there (logging on), there are no issues. Laptop is fine.
Here's a very weird thing. If I run cmd as Administrator and then run chkdsk /f and then reboot, the laptop (after it does the disk check and reboots again) will start really fast. Like it should. If I then reboot after that, it's back to the five minute thing.
I have tried the following:

Turned EnableULPS off
Tried turning off Virtual Memory or adjusting it to the recommended settings
Turning off Fast Boot
Taken the battery out while machine is off
Updated the drivers from the Device Manager
Unfortunately boot logging c:\Windows\ntbtlog.txt does not show log times and so I cannot see where the delay is.
Nothing in the Event Viewer since the delay happens before that.

Any ideas? The E6540 is supposedly certified for Update 1607.
Many thanks.
Kind Regards
Nick

Hey all,

Despite having cleaned out temporary files, previous windows installation files, and anything else unnecessary, I could only get about 7-8Gb of free space, which proved insufficient for Windows to update to version 1511.

It suggested using an external drive to handle the update files, so I put in a 64Gb microSD card. Despite selecting this, however, it still can't update. It goes from asking for ~8.9Gb extra free space on C:/ to ~8.3Gb.

There's got to be some way for these 32Gb eMMC to handle Windows updates, surely?

A:Satellite Click 10: Cannot apply Windows Update to version 1511

Did you format the SD card ? You have to format it on the machine first . search, formatting SD card windows 10. Best to put in a spare SD card and later keep this card as it will have a copy of your update on it for future resets . Then pop in another good SD card for future storage, but some apps etc wont go to it, but you can get them to do so. search, getting your apps to store and operate on external drives. Don't use any other antivirus package except the built in windows defender, it is specially light in size and wont use up much storage and it will protect you well enough. You can safely delete all Toshiba stuff that comes with it to make room. also there is so many things on windows 10 you can do without search stuff you don't really need windows 10.

Even after a few hours, it's still on that screen. So ultimately I have to force shutdown my PC (after which I can use it as per normal). I also do not believe I have any malware on my PC (have scanned multiple times with Kaspersky just to be sure).

I had updated to Windows 8 > 8.1 > 10 on this same PC before and never faced a single issue. I also never mess around much with default system settings.

MS made me update a couple of days ago. I just discovered this morning that it disabled Norton 360. It also removed CCLeaner, and turned off my Norton firewall. I have to reauthorize some other products but my main problem is that I don't know if I have antivirus anymore..
I try to turn Windows Defender on and it tells me that it is off but I have no option t turn it on. Norton wont open, is no longer on the bar at the bottom but is listed in "APPs", but like I said, wont open.
I tried to reinstall but I get a popup in the lower right telling me that Norton 360 wont run on this version of Windows.
It comes free with Comcast/Xfinity and has always worked well, until now. I did manage to turn the Windows firewall on. I set the default browser to EDGE, which I DO NOT like because it rearranges all of my favorites.
I cannot find an answer. I am just about ready to move to a MacBook for regular use. I have an offline computer for audio work. I have not upgraded it to W-10 and frankly I'm scared to. It has no antivirus because it has no email and very limited online use... ok, I digress.
What do I do to get Norton Working?
I posted the question on the Xfinity board and will on the Norton forums.

Thanks for any help.

I feel like dealing with MS is like dealing with the government, I just don't like the whole attitude of "WE Updated Your PC".. They shuld have said "You Updated Your PC"... small things like that matter, it shows their arrogance... and my files were NOT right where I left them.
OK.. thanks,

I have a Windows 10 system upgraded from Win7. Windows Update failed on this recent cumulative update. The web has lots of hits about this. After trying a number of fixes, the following worked for me:

1. I went into Disk Management and saw that my System Reserved Partition was 100MB vs the minimum recommended (according to some sites) of 400MB.

2. I used MiniTool Partition Wizard (free edition) to resize the System Reserved Partition to 450MB. That required burning a CD from a downloaded ISO.

3. Since the Windows update failed again, I deleted the contents of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download (I did NOT delete the DOWNLOAD folder itself, just the contents)

4. BINGO! The update installed.

Hope this helps someone else who may have this problem.

Failed to install,
I have tried several times , but each time msg appears
failed to update, and system undoes changes .
First time for me this
( several occasions over the years have led to me needing to
reinstall updates, but this one is pretty unforgiving )

I need a trick to start the whole process from scratch I think
but how?
Can't restore to a previous version as option no longer available

I had that also with this update.
So here is what I did to get over it.
I restarted it then ran the Disc Clean Up app
Which cleared all traces from the Disc
Then let it download and install, which took some time
Then it installed to 30% then Restarted then finished at 100%
Which again sat there for some time then flashed up it had finished and now running all ok on all my systems
Hope that may hopefully help you with your problem
Let us know how you get on
The one thing I found with this one, you cant rush it

I've tried to install this multiple times: Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, version 1511, 10586

Here's what I've done so far to try and fix:

Code:
sfc /scannow
multiple times as admin. No errors reported.

Code:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow
I've checked the Windows logs but didn't find anything.

When Windows restarts I get the Windows logo, but it then goes to a blue screen and asks me if I want to restart, or reset my PC. I restart and then I get a message saying the update install failed.

A:Windows 10 Pro, version 1511, 10586 update fails multiple times

Try this if you have not tried it (you do not say)

Download iso, click on it and run setup.exe.

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3194496)

Three days ago my desktop tried to update 1607 3 times. Each time on reboot it says failed to update and reverts. Each day it tries again at shutdown.

Yesterday my second(son's) computer updated and all I could see was a black screen with a circle. Had to do a repair and it reverted back 2 two updates. Note, this computer does not have integrated graphics - so that fix process would not work.

Now the wife's computer wants to update but I am not restarting it - if hers goes down it will be hell in my household.

I looked on the web and don't see much about this update getting fixed by Microsoft. Any ideas what I should do? My main computer is asking to try again and it will just fail or worse - black screen. I told the family not to shutdown the wife's but I know at some point it will try to do the update on its own.

This is the worst mess we have ever had, but all I see are web pages about the anniversary update - not this one.

Hey, ???

I'm just getting a Windows update now (ca. 10:13 AM Brisbane Australia) - my laptop screen suddenly went black and when things reappeared, previously-open windows were misaligned and differently sized.

The Windows Settings box which had been showing downloads (I had hit "search for updates") was blank. I rebooted it and it shows "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1607" downloading. I'd researched 1607 and had understood it amounted only to a download in megabytes if you already had 1511 (which I do).

I'm on metred connection - is this going to happen all the time??

Don't know you're whole situation, but that wording and the size of ~3GB sounds an awful lot like the Anniversary Update download.

Normally, you check the Microsoft Update Catalog to grab stuff. But this is a cumulative update that's been superseded by a later update. Looks like MS is removing older cumulative updates when they post newer ones.

I am trying to update from Windows 10 OS Build 10586.589 to the Anniversary Update but my computer freezes at 1% progress. I have tried everything I can think of including: Unplugging all extra SATA drives except my main SSD, unplugging my wireless network adapter, unplugging all USB devices (even mouse and keyboard), removing old drivers and updating outdated ones, and installing the update through a USB flash drive. It always gets to the same part and freezes until I shutdown my computer and lose no data.

You can see pictures of the frozen screen here: http://imgur.com/a/PseoH.

Hello, I am the owner of a small laptop, an Acer Switch 10, which only have 32GB of SSD memory inside. I also have a microSD *always* in of 128GB, and a normal 500GB HDD on the keyboard, if plugged, of course.

The internal memory has 6GB free right now, and I can't free anymore as windows folder has over 12GB and total usable space is about 19-21GB.

When I try to launch 1607 update with the upgrade tools, it tells me that I need 16GB free, and doesn't give me the option to choose any other device to store the installation.

If I use media download tool it tells me that it needs 8GB and also doesn't give me the option to select another storage.

Is there a way to install this update? Is it impossible? Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance!

A:Not enough space for anniversary update (1607)

Hello, whilst you can manually download an iso and create a bootable medium from it (mounting it would not be a viable option for you given your constraints) bear in mind a copy of much of your Windows folder will be created as Windows.old on your disk.. for possible rollback recovery. That will be there unless you delete it manually for 10 days from the upgrade.

Now people with 100s of Gb spare on C are also getting this message. One possibility is that (I believe) some 450Mb of unallocated space is needed on the disk. I had a quick read around on this and causes seem obscure 'MS is working on it'

However you are tightly constrained.. and one thing you don't want happening is partitions which are part of the Windows environment being created on a different physical disk.

The iso is about 3.08Gb if I recall.

So
a. Manually download an iso and create a bootable medium
b. Research space issues
c. Create a disk image of your working PC for security (Macrium Reflect (free) + its boot medium + external storage
d. Attempt the upgrade.

Note that for 64 bits, MS states 2GbRam + 20Gb hard disk min. Well, my C: is just over 40Gb, no Windows.old, and I have programs installed on D: not C: and data mostly NOT on C: so 20Gb seems very optimistic.

This one has to be the worst of them all. It has taken us back to '90s era when we had to do such stupid things such as take out USBs while installation, install drivers and do backups and all that stuff.

2) Even though the installation is complete, 6 out of 10 times windows gets stuck on the black screen and process ONLY if i remove the wireless usb receiver.

3) Cold boot and resuming from hibernation now takes AGES! Prior to the 'much awaited' update a cold boot took around 50 seconds and resuming from hibernation tool hardly 15-20 seconds. Now cold boot takes around 2-3 minutes and resuming from hibernation takes around 1.5-2 minutes. I did a clean install of 1607 on a separate partition and encountered wifi and graphic issues. Unsuccessful searched for appropriate drivers which may be found with further searching.

However, my 3 year old Toshiba is running great on build 1511. Updates to 1511 were received this past Tuesday. And personally, for my needs, 1607 does not bring that much to the table. I did try the new Edge extensions but found the speed performance lacking.

Will older builds continue to receive updates ?

I have been attempting various 'fixes' on a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop since the release of Windows-10 Build-1511.  The original Win-10 installation was fine but the 1511 Update consistently failed at 40% (23% into the Drivers & Features part).  Non of the 'fixes I tried actually worked and the installation continued to collapse at 40%.
Last night I was trying a new (to me) Driver Updating program from Auslogics (Driver Updater) in an attempt to fix an issue on my Advent Desktop - after purchasing the full copy of the driver updater it downloaded drivers which other driver update programs had not found before and it DID fix my issue.  Consequently, I decided to try it on the Dell laptop as I wondered if it was a driver issue that was preventing the update to Build 1511.
The Auslogics Driver Updater found half a dozen drivers that Neither Driver Max nor Driver Booster 3 had found and after installing them I tried the Windows Update again.  This time it ran through to completion without any problems at all.  I am still uncertain as to which of the drivers was the problem but obviously Microsoft needs to take a look at their update code and to download necessary drivers when an issue is identified (or at least give a more meaningful error message than merely "The update has failed".

I hope this helps others with the same or similar problems with the 1511 update.  I would be interested to hear how you go on.

Windows 10 has been running fine for some time, but attempt to update to Anniversary fails. The update runs fine until the point after restart where it states "The machine will restart several times"; soon into that sequence when  attempting a restart, the machine switches itself off instead. When I then switch it back on manually, the update is lost and the system resets itself to the previous Windows version.A Microsoft technician worked for hours before concluding that I would have to do a full, clean WIndows 10 installation, after which all files and applications would be lost and needed to be reinstalled. I have been wondering if the faulty restart behaviour is related to the BIOS somehow, and I have had it reinstalled from HPs site with no change. So, my questions areCan BIOS be the cause? Btw, I have turned the fast restart option (under power schemes) off.I note that I got a "legacy" BIOS installed. Is UEFI available for this laptop, and would that make a difference? If I do install UEFI, will Windows 10 and applications run as before or could other issues arise?

I have Windows 10 Pro, Version 1511. I've not updated to Version 1607 because of FUD regarding the NVIDIA drivers. Starting a couple of days ago, just after a Windows update, I have a 1511 problem: when I boot up, the displays (I have 4) blink at seemingly random times, and also power on and off at strange times. I wait but never see Windows fully loaded.

I read somewhere that F5 was the key to use to go into safe mode (I remain unsure about the veracity of that claim). But, in desperation, I tried the F5 key: it didn't appear to go into safe mode, and booted up normally, giving me a clean system.

I suspect this is a device driver problem: should I go to NVIDIA's website and just download the latest device driver? I've had NVIDIA problems on various platforms starting about six months before the original RTM release, and all three of my Windows 10 platforms have NVIDIA display adapters.

Aside from not telling me why its failing, why on earth are we still downloading stuff from scratch every time? Even Kermit 30 years ago knew how to start where it left off.
And, yes, it is a big deal - courtesy of BT, some of us out here are still on less than 1 meg at the best of times, and frequently at 0.6K (not a misprint).

It just wiped out my entire jumplist for IE11. I'm waiting to see if it comes back like last time--albeit with some issues. Not sure as yet if it's done anything to Edge.

I just upgraded my Win 10 machine to "Threshold-2" version 1511. All went smoothly! But it added 10GB to the hard drive storage used.

I presume this is due to the ability to "roll back" to the prior version (I have no Restore Points because that feature is disabled).

If I'm willing to commit to version 1511 and do not need to preserve the ability to roll back, is there a way to reclaim this space? I know one way is to do a "reset," but that wipes all my apps, requiring a reinstall, which is a pain. Is there a better/easier way?

As I understand it Win10 1511 10586 is more or less an upgrade over 10240 and as such there may be a Windows.old Folder on your HDD. Four of my computers had that after the same Folder left over from Win7 and Win8.1 were deleted. Might try disk cleanup, may get rid of it. Or simply wait 32 days to see if it automatically deleted.

My computer is running Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows Update refuses to download and install the version 1511 update. I've tried to press "Search for updates" multiple times, but it still keeps telling me that it's updated. The last update (apart from Windows Defender updates) was KB3163017 which was installed 8 days ago. The installation of Windows 10 itself was made longer than one month ago so the 31 day protection shouldn't be an issue either.

I've tried to search for a solution, but all I could find included downloading the .ISO file and install it manually, which I'd like to avoid as I then must burn it on a disc and I'd prefer if Windows Update could just take care of it as it does with the other updates.

So my questions are:

Is this normal, should Enterprise versions get these major updates via Windows Update or not?Is there anyone here that also use the Enterprise version and have received the update via Windows Update? Are there any solutions to this problem apart from updating with an .ISO?

A:Windows 10 Enterprise - Windows Update Can't Find Update 1511

I don't think Enterprise upgrades to next major builds through Windows Updates. That is so the corporation using Enterprise can maintain control of the versions of software on their computers which is extremely important for compatibility reasons among others.

Why can't you just mount a downloaded ISO file and run setup.exe from the mounted ISO file? Why do you have to burn it to DVD first?

I have updated my Windows 8.1 Laptop to Windows 10 after the first Release of Windows 10. After the Update, all things were really fast and smooth. At the Weekend, i have updated this installation to Windows 10 with Anniversary Update and the Laptop becomes extreme slow.

Starting of programs takes a very long time. For instance, starting Firefox with a clean profile and no addons needs 2 Minutes. If i start a Explorer Window, it takes nearby 50 seconds to open it. The Laptop has switchable graphics solution with the following technical Details:

Howdy,

I have been trying to download and install Cumulative Update, Win 10, Version 1607 for x64-based systems since Sept. 15 but so far I am coming up empty. I realize the help forums have been loaded with folks having the same problem but I decided to start my own thread instead of joining in ones already started in case it is a result of what kind of computer I am using and the Programs I am running on it.

First of all, I am running on an All-In-One HP Pavilion 23-g017c (x64) AMD A6-5200 APU w/Radeon HD Graphics, running Windows 10, Version 1607, Build 14393.105, using the Edge Browser while utilizing Windows Firewall and Windows Defender as my major security programs.

I have tried daily to install the update via Windows Update but it does not install for one reason or the other. Some of the threads I have visited the last few days suggest to manually download and install it from the Windows Update Catalog. I tried this manual install both yesterday and today and came up empty both times.

I have never had any major problems with Windows 10 when it comes to receiving updates so this has me dead in my tracks.

So, basically I have three questions:

(1) Any ideas of anything I can do to get this update on my computer? or

(2) If people like me are having trouble with a particular update will Microsoft eventually come out with a fix? and/or

(3) Does Microsoft have a link for people with update problems like the one I am experiencing?

I will appr... Read more

My desktop and laptop have updated to Version 1607, Build 14393.187 (Windows 10 Home), and the update conveniently uninstalled three of my favorite programs--Windows Movie Maker 6, Chess Titans, and Spider Solitaire. I had installed Chess Titans and Spider Solitaire successfully in Windows 10 using msgames_win8_x64.msi, but now when I try to reinstall the games, the icons reappear, but the games won't start. The new version won't let me reinstall Windows Movie Maker 6 at all.

Funny thing is that Revo Uninstaller shows both Windows Movie Maker 6 and MS Game for Windows 8 listed as installed.

Is there an additional step or setting that would let me reinstall these programs? Thanks.

I have ugraded to version 1607 and I notice the restart time is 2.5 longer than version 1511. The boot time is about the same on both versions. I also did a clean install of version 1607 and the restart time was still about 2.5 times as long as version 1511.
What is going on with version 1607?

What is going on with version 1607? you've checked startup programs? Any that are on by default?
First days can be rough, give it time or wait for the next update patch to get things sorted

My PC trys to update to the newer version of windws 10 number 1607 from number 1511 which was the free version of the upgrade to Winodws 10. The PC crashes and then reinstalls the old version of Windows 10 number 1511 apparently becuase the HP driver doesn't support Windows 10.  I looked on this website and there is no driver for this PC for Windows 10. Does HP intend to issue a driver so this PC can be updated to Windows 10 number 1607? If not Microsoft says they are preparing drivers for the unsupported PCs. Has anyone had any experience with using the Microsoft drivers to replace the HP driver? Was the subsitution sucessful?

Hello
Has anyone here had the problem with windows 10 anniversary edition restoring back to the last version?
My machine took a half hour downloading and installing. All looked fine but just when I thought it was done I got the message "Restoring to previous version"
After a while longer it had trouble booting that was only corrected by cycling power and booting a couple of more times.
In the end I'm back where I started.
This has been reported on a few other sites as well.

I have tried several times to update to the anniversary update, and at the start, everything is going fine. the update installs correctly, and is working fine. but when i try to turn off the computer, it won't. the screen goes black, but 30 seconds later if i touch the mouse, the login screen appears. turning off the computer from that screen does not help either.

The only way to turn it off is by holding down the power button, or the restart button at the login screen. the problem is when i turn the pc back on again, a black screen appears saying "restoring your previous version of windows". that takes a minute to do its thing, then i have the old version of windows 10 again. this has happened several times, i have deactivated third party anti virus programs, and even did a clean boot, but still the same thing is happening. any idea of what causes this?(this picture is not me, but shows what happened to me, as my picture did not work (it's different problem than mine))

Windows Update keeps trying to update Office 2003.
I have a trial version of Office 2003 that came with my computer.
I do not want it at this time, but I may want it at some point in the future.
I don't know if it can be hidden from the Windows update but if not, I am not sure how to fully get rid of it.
It has never been "installed."
Windows update fails every time, of course, because it isn't now nor has it ever been installed.
The biggest problem is that it keeps trying to apply the same updates over and over and over. It slows down the shutdown as it repeats the attempt(s) 3 times before each shutdown and also it keeps downloading the same and or other Windows Updates for Office 2003.
1 - Can Windows Update be configured to leave my Trial version of Office 2003 alone?
2 - If not, how can I get rid of the Office 2003 trial version.
Obviously uninstall is out of the question.
3 - Once it is gone, do I need to do anything with regards to Windows Update?

Windows XP SP2
Compaq Presario
3200+ AMD Athlon XP
512MB Ram

Thank you

A:Windows Update Tries to update trial version of Office

If you uninstall the "enhanced" Windows update, it should only try to update Windows, not other Microsoft applications.

Why is uninstalling Office 2003 not possible?

Just thought - if mods don't object - I'd post a reference on this board to another post I've just made elsewhere (not really sure where best to post the original), alarmed at the size of the Anniversary Download (3+ GB) which I'd understood would be in megabytes if you had 1511 already.

Used the Windows Media Creation tool for the Anniversary Update
All went well, but in the end a simple "Windows 10 installation has failed"
No reason, I just returned to my 10586.545 desktop.

Frankly as I expect such things to happen, I always create a Windows image right before
starting such 'bigger' upgrades.
Restored the image so to make sure there is nothing left there from the failed 1607 upgrade
there that might cause conflicts.

Maybe, one day, MS has a fix, or I may try to do a fresh install, sometime in future.

Right now, 10586.545 is running fine.
Personally I don't have the time (read: interest) to start off spending hours on trying to
find possible solutions / workarounds.

You can check in settings > system > about > OS build
The statement from MS said it will roll out by region, model and time zone over the next few weeks. It's been a week since it released publicly and a few people have received it while many others haven't
