Hi all,

I'm a bit desperate so I came here hoping to find some answers.

So I wanted to connect a second monitor (which is a TV screen) to my PC to watch movies, but suddenly my PC wont send any signal to my TV, so I tried connecting all kinds of HDMI cables to all kind of TVs/monitors laying around in the house, and my conclusion is that whenever I tried to connect a second monitor with HDMI directly to my PC it wont show anything and it also doesn't show up in my Display settings on my PC. So from what I can tell the problem lays with the PC itself (within windows probably).

I have up to date display drivers so that is not the problem.

Also something worth mentioning is that my main PC monitor is connected with DVI, and the DVI connector works just fine on every device.

Hope someone can help me find an answer soon!

Hey guys, it was a long time since I needed assistance with any technical stuff but today is the day again.

So it is like this,
I am using an Asus N61JQ laptop and I always used the VGA cable to connect any monitor or projector. Today I wanted to connect my laptop to my Dell U2412M monitor with a digital cable instead of VGA and that is when got in to problems.

Dell U2412M connections: DVI, Display Port, VGA.
Asus N61JQ connections: HDMI, VGA.

To connect the laptop to the monitor I have used an nVidia adapter that came along with one of the GPU's + an 1.8m HDMI cable.
This is the link to the adapter:
So I connected the adapter to the monitor and then the HDMI cable from the laptop. In the end I did not get any image.
Just to be safe I have also installed the original drivers for the GPU and audio chip from Asus support.
The cable is not faulty nor is the adapter, tested it on an old laptop that had DVI on the side of it.

WHY? Something to do with the signal conversion and it suppose to work just from the back of a GPU?
What kind of an adapter or cable do I need then?

I do not really want a big adapter sticking out of my laptops HDMI port, it is way too easy to break. But please include both the adapter and the cable that I need in the explanation just so I know this for the future.
Thank you for your time.

A:HDMI laptop / DVI monitor cable connection

Faulty/incorrect adapter. Try a different adapter or use a DVI to HDMI cable. It's also possible that it won't work at all. The adapters are generally meant to connect to the PC side (ie: DVI output). This is because most HDMI ports also expect/utilize HDCP.

Hey everyone, I'm having this problem with Dota 2 and Diablo III. Whenever I connect my approximately 15" laptop to my 24" monitor using an HDMI cable, it forces me to use a lower resolution in order for the game to not be laggy. When I use my laptop by itself, it can support the highest resolution which is like 1324 x 1024 or something like that, in addition to all the highest settings (except shadow), and the game looks perfect. However, when I connect it to my monitor, there are many more resolutions to choose from, the highest being 1924 x 1000 or something, but when I choose this resolution the game LOOKS like it does when I just use my laptop at the 1324 x 1024 (or something close to that) resolution but it plays much much slower and forces me to use a lower resolution such as 1024 x 800 in order for it to be playable at the cost of graphics. I'm just wondering because when I play other games on my laptop that's hooked up to my monitor the games I play look the exact same on the monitor as they do on the laptop and I'm not forced to use a lower resolution, such as HoN. But when I play dota 2 and Diablo 3, the graphics become shittier on my monitor because I am forced to use a lower resolution. I don't need or want a higher resolution supported by my monitor if using it only makes the game laggy and unplayable, I'd rather use the lower resolution of my laptop with the perfect graphics and have it displayed in that exact way onto the monitor, which is what happe... A:Resolution Issue when connecting Laptop to Monitor via HDMI cable

Flangdoogler, welcome to the Seven Forums.

The full make and model of your laptop would help, as then we could see what it has for graphics in it (GPU). Depending on what it is it is likely that you answered your own question,

Or is that I simply cannot have the same graphics displayed on my laptop (15") be copied exactly onto my monitor (24") due to graphics card reasons?

If the graphics card in the laptop isn't up to running it at high settings and resolution, then one or the other has to be lowered (and most time both) to get the game to be playable.

Hey, I'm going to be headed off to college soon, and I'm switching from my old desktop to a new Razer Blade 2014, I am planning on still bringing my 2nd monitor to college and want to use it in my dorm room, My Monitor does not have a HDMI, but that is the only port on my Laptop. I thought this would be simple, because I was already running a HDMI to DVI-D on my desktop to my GTX 770 graphics card. While connected to my desktop, the monitor works normally. When I plug it into my laptop, I get nothing in response, The laptop will not detect the Monitor in screen resolution or in control panel. My monitor is a LG Flatron and my laptop is the Razer Blade 2014. I don't understand why it doesn't just plug and play like it did on my PC. Any help? Also, I am on windows 10 but the problem happened on Windows 8.1 aswell

A:Laptop will not connect to second monitor via HDMI

Has it ever worked? You may want to test using a different monitor and a true HDMI to HDMI cable, just to verify the laptop port functions properly.

Hello. I use Windows Vista on a nearly 6 year old Acer Aspire 5930.

My old monitor stopped working, so I borrowed one from a friend. That will connect through VGA(my old cable), but for some reason everything got a greenish look, impossible to use for anything besides reading.

So I also borrowed his HDMI-cable. I connect them both, it makes the sound indicating it's connected, but nothing happens. If I have both VGA/HDMI at the same time the VGA works. If I remove VGA it won't work. I've tried numerous different combinations of this.

I've tried the Fn+F5 thing. Only works with the VGA.

Tried rebooting it, both with VGA and HDMI connected. Same result.

I'm fairly certain I've connected this pc to a tv 2 years ago, but then the sound didn't work, but the visual was working fine.

I've cracked the screen on the laptop. Everything I've been trying I've done with VGA connected.

The video driver is up to date.

The monitor is definitely working on a different pc. The VGA is probably working. My old monitor died due to power failure(It just turned off and won't come back on) so there's no reason to believe the VGA-cable isn't broken either.

A:Won't connect laptop to monitor with HDMI

This is one old box and I'd suggest that the integrated video chip is nearly dead or at least the HDMI aspect of it is.

Hello everyone!!
When I connect the PC with the HDMI cable (video card port//gtx760) to the TV, it doesn't detected it and brings me this message: "This source is not connected. Check the connection status."
Instead if I connect the HDMI cable to the PC (through motherboard port) the TV detects the presence of the cable, but without working (and if it did, however, the resolution would be bad).
So my question is: why the TV does not detect the PC while is connected through the HDMI cable? And what can I do to fix it?
Thanks in advance.

Hello everybody.
I'm finally on my way to the magical world of widescreen PC monitors from my trusty old 4:3 LCD and I'm absolutely stuck deciding between the two final contestants; Dell UltraSharp U2312HM and BenQ GW2450HM.
The former seems to beat the latter in almost all aspects, except for connectivity, as it lacks HDMI.
I plan to use the monitor both for PC gaming and movies as well as playing my PS2 on it through my amp, connected as described in the title, more clearly described now:
I'll connect the RCA L+R+video cables from the PS to my amp's (Yamaha RX-V565) AV input, then make it output the video through its HDMI out and connect that to my monitor, either with a straight HDMI-HDMI cable or in the case of the Dell monitor, with an HDMI-DVI cable that I got just for that.
The HDMI-DVI cable did not work before as, I believe, my current monitor just got confused by the forcibly upscaled 1080p signal from the amp. The monitors just blinked between a 'corrupted' grayish colour and a full blank screen.
Now my question is, could that be because of something else (as in, it won't work with a 1080p monitor either) or was it just my monitor's limitations that made it not work that time?
Thank you for reading and your possible input on this.

When I connect my monitor to PC using HDMI cable I get no signal. Tried 2 different cables and 2 monitors, VGA to either monitor works. Had the PC a couple of years and first time I have used the HDMI port. Possibly it just doesn't work or does it need enabling somehow.

A:Connecting PC to monitor with HDMI cable

Have you checked the back of the PC for any other HDMI ports? If your PC has a discrete graphics card then you may have inadvertently been plugging the monitors into the on-board ports that have been disabled.
It happens sometimes so it's worth me mentioning it.

If I use either F4/the windows key + P and select duplicate or PC screen only (or any other option) and then plug it into the TV, both the laptop screen and the TV screen are blank. Pressing any key does not bring up anything on my laptop screen, then when I unplug the HDMI cable it comes up with the second screen only option highlighted. My laptop strangely ignores what I click and constantly reverts back to this option and alas, I cannot project the screen onto any monitor (I have tried 4 separate monitors).

My laptop previously was able to be plugged into a TV and I have done this numerous times but as far as I'm aware this stopped when I had a windows 8.1 update (my assumption, I'm not sure). I have searched the web for solutions and none have worked. I have tried the method of detecting the monitor via the screen resolution option on the desktop, but again this can't be done because I can't see anything on either screen when my laptop is plugged into any TV, and I have tried countless times.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks a lot

A:Satellite Pro C850-1K3 cannot connect to a TV via a HDMI cable

I use Toshiba notebooks few years now and what I can say is that you must connect your notebook to the TV at first, enable the right port on the TV and then use FN or F key to change between notebooks desktop and connected TV.
Connected TV or other external device must be detected at first.

Please test it one more time.

Hi! I have this monitor

and this cable

Connected to a normal TV and HDMI to DVI cable to my lcd monitor at the same time it gave me an option at startup to switch to my HDMI source, but when I did all I saw was black on the LCD screen.

I was able to go into Display settings and switch it to HDMI manually but when it swaps to my lcd monitor its nothing but black again!

Do HDMI to DVI cables work for PS3s? My lcd monitor does not have a HDMI plug in. Only VGA and DVI

I'm hoping theres a trick to get this working or at the very least an adapter that wouldn't degrade the quality as much.

For a long time I have used a multiple monitor with a hdmi cable. A TV in my room, so i can watch movies from my computer on the TV. I also set the TV-monitor to default sound device so the sound would come from the TV and not the PC speakers.

Suddenly it just stopped working... So i first tried changing the hdmi cable without any luck.

- then i tried connecting my xbox 360 to the TV to check if the input to the tv was broken. but it worked perfectly.
- then i tried connecting the pc to my pc screen with hdmi to see if the hdmi output was broken. this worked perfectly.
- then i got a new TV and it worked ok, but with minor problems..

there are 2 problems

1. When i only have the desktop showing the screen is perfectly still.. but when i watch a movie there is a little flickering on the screen...

2. When using the tv as default playback device for sound it goes on it of... for example when listening to music the music plays for 20 seconds, then stops for a second or two.. then repeat...

Anyone know what the problem might be? some settings probably? i kinda spend most of my spare time watching film on the tv... but this problem keeps stopping me... :-(

hope someone has a good answer for me.. and please write in a language i understand (im not a computer expert)

Are the VGA and HDMI connectors both on the motherboard? Asking because they are on my system and I have to go into the BIOS to specifically enable the HDMI connector. That is because there is also a DVI connector, which is enabled by default, and I have to disable that to enable the HDMI connector.

If the connectors are on a video card, you should look in Control Panel, the Display section, and see if you have to enable/disable connectors there.

The setting has been set on "duplicate screen".

My monitor immediately went black and said "VGA no signal".

Since then I can use the computer as normal when the HDMI cable is not connected but as soon as I connect the HDMI cable I get a black screen on my monitor. The screen shows on the projector as expected but the monitor screen is black.

My monitor only works when the HDMI cable to the projector is unplugged from the back of the desktop.

I have no idea how to get both screen working again,

I don't know if I posted this correctly but I would really like for you to inform me a little bit about HP pavilion 1TB Hard Drives.  I have bought a HP Pavilion 1TB With ADM processor less than a year ago. There was whiskey spilt on it a couple of months ago before summer, but I managed to bring it back to working and it was fine and stil in good shape. A few weeks ago I dropped the laptop from the desk and it fell on a carpeted floor. Not hard, but not gentle either. And it was still on when I picked it up and working. When I shut it down the laptop refused to restart. I made a quick diagnose check on the hard drive and it said failiure something with red letters.I took the laptop to a PCs shop and the man that had a look at it said to me, the hard drive is dead and I need a new one fitted it. "Everything else is in good condition" he surmised and I agreed with him in changing the hard drive. I told him specificly to replace the hard drive with another 1TB Hard Drive, though he later adviced me with good confidence that I was better off with a 320gb and buy an external hard drive. The laptop will work just fine in terms of speed. So he fitted in a 320 HDD and gave me back my laptop with Windows 7 ultimate. Now the laptop is not connecting to HDMI and AMD catalyst is not being recognised no matter how many times I install it. And I honestly don't know if the man really took something out of my laptop. The HDD that he gave back to me says its Sam... Read more

I had no luck with the VGA cable as I got no picture what so ever on the tv. So I went out and purchased a HDMI cable after do much research on the internet on what was the best option to hook your computer up to your High Def tv and found that using an HDMI cable was a great option as you can achieve video and sound from one cable (or so I had thought).

I hooked the cable into the HDMI slot 1 on the back of my plasma and into the HDMI port on my laptop. I can get perfect picture, but I have yet to achieve any sound coming out of the tv, I was of course able to get sound out of the laptop speakers but when I did some searches online of ways to get the sound to transfer over to the tv speakers, everything that I tried left me still with no sound. I have did endless searches with basically almost every search that I do or forum that I read on giving a different answer or way to go about it, and I am basically stuck about to give up and need some guidance or insight or something.

I'm not fabulous or a genius on computers but I am pretty decent at them so I will do my best to answer anything that I may need to. Just please be gentle

Thanks in advance!!

So I've gone blue in the face for the past 2 days trying to figure out what's been going on with my HDMI port. 2 nights ago I was watching a movie through my Dell Inspiron N5050 laptop through my Panasonic HDTV. Yesterday, I tried to connect my HDMI cable to my laptop and computer, but nothing happened...So frantically I've been searching everywhere and trying what I have so far with no progress...

1.System Restore to earlier date when my HDMI port was working.
2.Toggle Computer/Duplicate/Extended/Projector Only and nothing worked(Also made sure tv was on the right HDMI input)
3.Tried 3 different HDMI cables and HDMI inputs
4.Uninstalled all sound drivers and Display Adapter(Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
5.Contacted Dell and had them try to reinstall drivers
6. Checked BIOS but I couldn't find any enable/disable feature for video.
7. Took battery out of laptop waited for 30 seconds pressed power button to reset.

Anything else you want me to try? I don't know why it would stop working for no reason. My Panasonic TV doesn't even show up under my playback devices and when I try and do a dual screen through screen resolution it says another display not connected. I'ved tried going Intel HD Graphics Control Panel as such Luck! Beginning to think that my HDMI port on my laptop is broken. Please any other options?

A:Laptop not detecting my TV through HDMI cable anymore

You say you think the HDMI on your laptop is broken, but also that you tried your computer with the TV as well?

And first thing to always do when connecting a TV up through HDMI, check your screen resolution. It should be automatically detected and set after the TV and Windows talk to each other, but sometimes communication just breaks down.

And of course... You did select the right HDMI source on your TV, didn't you?

Have a new HP Envy laptop upgraded to Windows 10. Tried to use my old VGA HP projector. They said I needed a HDMI cable to connect on the laptop and VGA on the other end. When turning on the projector it says projected the HP logo with a count down and when it got to 0 the logo disappears and I get a blue screen and in the bottom right of the projected blue screen it runs through all different options of searching but nothing happens to project my desktop onto the screen. I was on the phone with HP for over 2 hrs. They updated the NVIDIA drivers but still it does not project. Is there something that can be done to fix this? I am able to use the VGA projector with my older HP DV7 laptop which has a VGA port. But I need to use the new HP Envy laptop.

Thank you for any assistance you can offer on this.

Hey guys, I'm actually new here, so I am not sure if this is in the right forum page, but I need help. I have had a problem with my HDTV and laptop for a few months and finally decided to start a thread for help. The problem is that the HDTV is blurry and fuzzy when connected to my laptop via HDMI. However, I realize this is an overscanning issue, because in the AMD Catalyst Control Center, whenever I set the scaling for overscanning to 0%, the fuzzy text and screen is fixed, but the edges around the screen like the taskbar are cutoff the edge of the screen. I do not think my TV has an option for "Just Scan", but maybe you guys can find something I can't. Here is the manual:

Also, I am running Windows 8.1 with an AMD Radeon HD 7520G graphics card.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

A:Need help with my laptop connected to my HDTV (HDMI Cable)

Not sure I can help but I have the same thing. I have a cheap TV and I think it has more to do with that. I play videos is all and not an issue there, just desktop is expanded past screen.

My TV is only 720p.

I'd love to see if someone has a fix.

When I connect the HDMI cable to the TV, I see nothing on the screen and my laptop starts to blink until it causes an error to the graphics card and sometimes the computer crashes, checked several HDMI cables and that's not the problem. Any suggestions what causes this?
Thanks for the help.

A:Connecting HDMI cable to TV crashes laptop

Sounds like a resulution issue, go into controll panel, and make sure under display that you select hdmi only, this will use your tv as main screen, dont split it, most laptops have a shortcut key that when pressed auto switches the screen, this avoids errors and crashes, the main reason for crashes on dual screens i found was the resolution differance, the pc cant decide on which to follow, the crashes(this was way back on old screens). So set laptop resolution to full, make sure it set not to split the screen, but to use the tv as hdmi only. Obviously upgrade your grafix drivers, and see if it helps. Have a look on your laptop for a key that alows screen switching, its usually second function keys on the "F" keys, on my laptop its secondfunction F5, this makes things allot easier.

Hope it helps

I have a VAIO VGN-AR61S running Vista Premium

Having a Blue ray drive, I wish to play HD movies on my TV... However, when I plug in the HDMI cable, my machine crashes.

If it is already plugged in, my machine won't boot up.... It reports a Hardware error.

If I plug in when up and running.... 'crash' screen.

In panic I didn't take note of error codes....and I obviously don't wish to repeat the exercise .

Any suggestions would be greatfully received.

This concerns an HP late-model notebook, Win7 Home Prem x64, used as a desktop with HDMI-connected 1080p 21", plus usb mouse/kbd. The goal is to make this as simple as possible: desktop-like. Just turn it on and work.
It seems that either/both coming out of sleep state or simple shutdown and startup the Monitor stays offline because, I suppose, its getting no signal from the notebook. I tried to duplicate this on a dell notebook in my 'lab' but I only have a vga connect to work with - it just works. in fact I have trouble with the usb port but not with the monitor persisting.

is there a chance there is some interplay between vendor/maker-specific implentations, plus perhaps the embedded Intel HD video controller?

A:How to make HDMI-connect Ext Monitor persist?

this could be an external device problem, somehow messing up allocation of resources @ boot. my brother has a new i7 super machine, hooked up with a monitor(dvi) and an hdmi bigsceen hooked up as well.
no problems. then he hooked up a firewire card-hooked up to an external mixer, something like that. he had identical/very similar issues. when we troubleshot, i first said eliminate any possibilities no matter how remote.

long story short.

when the external device is powered up his main monitor did not work when coming out of hibernate mode. with it off(not the card just the devise) all is well.

from what i could assertain, didn't sound like your problem. i know this sort of deal does not usually occur with printers and scanners. but it is somewhere to start(or end if nothing else is hooked up in such a fasion).

good luck dude

Hi, I recently figured out that I can plug my Xbox 360 Video and Audio Cables into my computer. What me and my father tried, was that we tried opening windows media center (Since we have windows vista). We have been trying for 4 hours now, using a bunch of different methods. I'm not that very techie (Which is why I'm asking you guys) so I'll use the best terms I can. My main question is, how do I make my Xbox 360 screen appear on my monitor so I can play it.
Sidenote:If this actually works is there a way I can record what I'm playing?

Thank you all in advance.

A:Can't connect Xbox 360 to HDMI Computer Monitor.

Bit confused here. Why are you plugging it into the computer? Can you not just plug it into the monitor? Most have several ports, think one of them should work for you- lots have a HDMI input, that may be your solution.

I have a Yoga 11s that started having hdmi connection issues about a year ago and has recently quit connecting to an external monitor via HDMI completely. We tried upgrading to Windows 10 to see if that would overwrite any software issues - no luck. The HDMI port actually appears loose. I did an extensive search of the forum and found posts that recommended cutting down the rubber around the base of the hdmi cord - tried that and at least I had a little activitiy - in the upper right hand corner of the external monitor up popped a box that says DVI then VGA then HDMI - but then says No Signal. Tried the graphics card update recommended on a post from long time ago and a popup indicated I had a newer version already installed. I have taken it to a laptop repair place - said they couldn't get parts from Lenovo. I found an "authorized" Lenovo repair shop locally - when I called they said they only work on business machines Called Lenovo and they told me to take it to Best Buy - however since I purchased this directly from Lenovo, Best Buy said they can't work on it. I would rather not send it into Lenovo because they tried to charge my hubby hundreds of dollars when his 15 day brand new laptop quit working, claiming damage - luckily extensive pictures taken and dated prior to sending it in thwarted that attempt at extortion. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have an i5-based DG67BL intel motherboard computer that has a DVI and HDMI ports with one DVI monitor connected to the DVI port.

I added an GeFORCE 210 graphics card to it that has a VGA and a DVI ports and connected additional two monitors to it.

So far computer is working fine with three monitors configured in windows as extended desktop.

This motherboard has just one PCIeX16 slot. It has 2 PCIeX1 and a PCI slot that are vacant.

I need to connect yet another DVI monitor. I took a HDMI<->DVI cable, connected it to the onboard HDMI port. the monitor was not detected.

I tried various combinations of monitors and bios settings in vain. Under no circumstances the HDMI port drove the DVI monitor.

The cable is working fine elsewhere.

What did I do wrong ? Is there something I need to buy/replace for this to work ?

Thanks !

A:How to connect additional DVI monitor to HDMI port

you 'need' to connect a 4th monitor? I recommend getting graphics card(s) to support your endeaver, but up to you.

Why don't you get a dvi to vga or maybe its a vga to dvi cord and connect the dvi monitor to the graphics card vga port?

Does it have to go into the HDMI port? HDMI carries sound as well as the video signal, dvi only carries video, and vga carries a lesser quality video

I've pluged a HDMI cable from my laptop into my TV and theres no sound coming from the TV just the laptop speakers. I've tried going into my control -> sound options -> playback -> and setting the HDMI output to default but still no luck, whats listed is :

Realtek Digital Output (Optical)
Realtek HDMI Output
Digital Output device (HDMI)

and next to each one listed is like a sound meter, the only one thats active is the speakers at the top which im guessing is the laptop speakers.

Greetings everyone,
Im not too tech savvy so I will try and explain exactly happened and hopefully get some assistance. I have an HP G42 AMD Turion II Dual Core Notebook that I am using for school (had the laptop for a year now, Windows 7 installed). I use it for watching movies (using GOP player), listening to music (itunes), completing term papers and attending online courses. I recently purchased an HDMI cable to watch movies from my laptop to my tv (I have an old Hitachi CRT 1080p w/HDMI compatibility), and when I plugged the cable in my laptop screen turned black for a brief moment, resumed normal and then completely froze. The only thing I was able to do was power it off and attempt to restart. I tried to restart the laptop and was barely able to type in my password as the welcome screen before it froze again. I can run windows in safe mode (both network and cmd prompt) but I cant run in normal. If more information is needed to troubleshoot I will be more than happy to provide. Thank you for your help!!!!

Dear all that are reading,

I currently have a Sony Vaio laptop that has a HDMI output. I want to use a HDMI cable to connect my laptop up to a Samsung UE40B8000XW LED TV. The TV does have numerous HDMI inputs. (Please bare in mind I havent yet purchased the TV yet)

For sound I connect up my BOSE sound system using the 3mm stereo jack on the laptop.

Ok the situation is I still want to use the BOSE sound system when I connect up my laptop with the TV (Output cable from BOSE is only a 3mm stereo plug). The question is does the HDMI cable transfer sound to the TV and I will have to hook up the BOSE system to the TV or can I still hookup the BOSE system to the 3mm jack on the laptop and still get sound?

Any advice and help much appreciated.

Many thanks

A:Laptop to LED TV hookup with HDMI cable (Soun advice)

HDMI does transfer audio if the laptop supports it, but you can still use the stereo jack for audio if you so wish - just mute the audio on the TV.

If the laptop automatically switches to audio through the HDMI then you can go to the Control Panel and switch it back to the normal sound card.

I just bought a new laptop and it has an hdmi output on it. It is only an average laptop so the graphics card is pretty basic- i think its just the standard intel one.

When i connect my laptop to my 42" lcd screen and run it just off the TV, the video plays fine but about every 10 seconds or so it goes jumpy for a few seconds then back to normal.
however if i connect them and run both screens- the image on the tv is much smaller but plays fine. i'm thinking that when its outputting a larger image- that is causing the slowdown cause my graphics card can't handle it.

is there anyway to produce the 42" image without the slowdown?

thanks for the help

My laptop's screen goes black when I connect it to the TV via a HDMI cable, however this is completely new as it used to work fine. I can still watch things on my TV but I have to look at the TV screen where text comes up quite small and it makes it hard to do stuff, so I was wondering if anyone would know why my laptop's decided to start doing this, and how I can get it back to both screens working at once? Okay, so over the holidays I received a brand new Hisense television and I was watching movies and tv shows on my laptop on the big screen through an HDMI cable for a few weeks. Before that I was doing the same thing with the big screen in our living room for months. I got up one day and wanted to plug it in but I kept getting a message saying no signal. I had had it plugged in the night before and it worked just fine. Yes, I checked to make sure it was on the right setting, HDMI 1. I also tried plugging it in the other HDMI slots on the tv and it didn't work in those either. It is doing the same thing to our tv in the living room and it just doesn't make any sense. The only thing I can think of is that my computer has some kind of driver that just needs to be updated or something but I have no idea which one. HELP PLEASE!

I have a WinMe Dell 400 desktop attached to a Motorola Surfboard 4100 external cable modem via an Asante PCI network card and a Dell 8100 laptop with Windows XP which is also attached to the same Surfboard cable modem by a USB connection. All worked normally together for the past 3 months.

Because of recurrent total laptop computer freezes, increasing over the past few days when downloading, using IE6, and requiring power off, I did a clean install of Windows XP this AM and also I followed explicitly the instructions of Motorola in installing the cable modem. The freeze occurred for example on trying to install ¡§My Yahoo¡¨ and perform Windows update with IE6. I then installed all other programs. The same freeze problem recurred when using a dialup landline modem as well as when using Netscape 6 and also IE6 when I tried to download. I.e. both browsers froze on both connections. I was however able to update Norton¡¦s Antivirus.

This PM I did a 2nd format and clean install on the laptop of WinXP, the Dell drivers (nothing else) and again followed the Motorola instructions to install the cable modem.

Now clicking IE6 > ¡§no connection to internet available¡¨ and ¡§the page cannot be displayed.¡¨ This is even a worse problem.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the cable modem as per Motorola multiple times.

A:Unable to connect with cable modem, IE6 & WinXP .

I'm using Win XP and have discovered that you have to manually enter all the TCP/IP settings. The setup wizard will just screw it up. Once you have manually entered the host, DNS server and gateway address and rebooted, try using Ping with the DNS server. If the server replies, then you are ready for IE6. Good luck.

So, as the title says I'm having trouble with the connection from my laptop to my tv through hdmi, and I've tried quite a few things to solve the problem, but I'm not the most gifted person with computers or technology as a whole, I've simply run out of ideas.

Before I moved out from my parents' house in november, I'd lent a tv of theirs (a non-smart lg tv) that worked perfectly with my current laptop and hdmi, so I had to get a new tv+hdmi. So I went out and bought a new tv (LG 42LF580V). After a week it stopped being able to connect with my new 5 metre hdmi cable, so I went out and got another hdmi cable (also 5 metres). That worked for about 2 days and then that also stopped working, so I figured it was the tv. I sent it back and ordered a new tv (Samsung UE40J5515). I never got that to work with my hdmi cables and laptop, so I sent that back too. Some time in the middle of all that I've had my laptop connected to various things at school through hdmi, and I've also had it connected to both my neighbour's and my friend's tv so see if something was wrong with my laptop, but I had no problem with that.

Xmas was approaching and as I went back to my parents' house on holiday, I of course brought my laptop and one of the first things I did was connect it to the non-smart lg tv that I used to use. It connected instantly and worked without any problem at all for the next two weeks until I had to go home.

A:I can't connect my laptop to my tv via hdmi?

A solution I've not yet tried is to get a vga to hdmi cable instead of hdmi to hdmi. I honestly don't know the difference or if that could work, but if anyone knows, I'd love to hear it.

Hi Dell Community,
Please help me to diagnose what is wrong with my new laptop.
My Laptop is Dell Latitude E6440 but every time i connect external monitor to my laptop HDMI port via HDMI to VGA converter, the external monitor always blink randomly every couple of seconds. This HDMI to VGA converter is working fine when i used it to other laptop.
Currently i still don't have chance to try my laptop HDMI port to connect directly to HDMI monitor because i don't have it.
Are there anybody have the same problem with me? thanks for your help.

Hi M. Zemmy Indrapatih,
Thanks for your post.
Sorry you are having difficulties with your laptop and monitor.  If you could send me the name and model cable adapter you are using and the name and model of the monitor,  I might be better able to understand the issue.  Thanks

Hey all, I am currently unable to connect to the internet via a cable. Wireless works just fine but my computer does not even recognize a ethernet cable is plugged in.
I am using Windows Vista on a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop.

Update: I just tried repairing it via Windows Network Diagnostics and it says "Windows tried a repair but a problem still exists. A cable is not plugged into the network adapter 'Local Area Connection'."
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hey, months and months ago someone stood on my laptop screen and left it broken with the black and multicoloured patches all over it.
I was able to still use the laptop by connecting a hdmi usb lead from the laptop to the back of my tv. It worked fine for a few weeks before it started to cut out randomly.
Then it would only work by tilting or lifting the lead up a certain way. And now it doesnt work at all.
My tv says 'check signal cable' when things are on the right channel but arent connected, yet when i plug the lead in it says 'no signal'.
Im saving up for a new screen but until then i need to get my college work from my laptop.
Any ideas on why it's not working?

My laptop only has VGA output (no HDMI or DVI) so I purchased a powered VGA to HDMI converter. I am getting sound but no video. I am receiving an error message on my HDTV screen that reads "Incompatible video signal received. Check your output source" I am running Windows 7 and accessed my NVIDIA control panel settings but can't seem to get it to work. Do I need to adjust the video output settings?

Hi there

Now that's a different issue completely --some of these VGA==>HDMI video converters aren't much use I'm afraid. - I had one ages ago but could never get it to work -- what you could try though is see if your computer can set to DUAL monitors first and then try and use one as the primary. I think (if I remember W7) that Windows + P key scrolls through the external monitor settings.

With VGA output from one of those converters you won't get 1080p - you might have to set your TV to a much lower resolution than 1920 X 1080.

So I connected my Dell laptop to my LG LCD TV for the first time via an HDMI to HDMI cable, and it worked great. The next time I attempted to do this, my TV displayed "no signal" on every hdmi input. I've tried updating drivers and using the tool that is partnered with my graphics card to appoint the TV as the primary monitor, but I've gotten nothing.

Both the laptop and TV recognize that the HDMI cable has been inserted, but it won't show me a picture or give off any sound. Help!

Hi All,
I have Laptop Toshiba Satellite L775, windows 7. I used cable modem Motorola SURFboard SBG6580 and it was working fine. Then I changed my ISP to Century Link and used their DSL modem and still everything worked just fine. Now I moved to another city and used same cable modem (SBG6580) and connected my business PC thru ethernet and it is working fine. The problem is with my laptop which I tried to connect wirelessly but coudn't so I tried to connect it thru ethernet but it does not even recognizes it. Funny thing is my hard wired computer has picked up same network name thru modem and is working fine both thru ethernet and wifi (this computer I am using first time with this modem).
My laptop find available networks and when I select my network with password, some time it says connected with limited access and some time "windows was unable to connect" message. I tried most of the solutions by calling Suddenlink and Motorola but no luck. I am wordering if it has to do anything with centurylink's DSL modem being used on this laptop before and somehow blocking cable modem?
Any help?

Is it possible to get the menu of a VCR/DVD combo recorder to show on a laptop or computer monitor using a HDMI-HDMI lead?, the VCR/DVD unit has a HDMI socket as has my laptop. I tried using the old style RF lead into my HP HDX9120ea laptop which has a built in tv tuner but that didn't work through Windows Media Center.

I have a laptop with a n hdmi port and i just got an ACER 23" 1080P monitor, H233H and my graphics is set to display 1080 X 1920 but it only takes up most of the screen. If I change it to a lower setting like 1400 x 900, then it takes up the entire screen. could this be an hdmi cable issue? the monitor came with an hdmi cable but i can assume it's probably the old hdmi 1.0 standard. i have a 1.3 cable but i don't want to open it unless that IS the problem.

A:HDMI laptop to monitor problem

Strangly, I hooked up via VGA cable and it displays properly at 1920 x 1080. back to the hdmi, when i plug it in, the monitor recognizes the input as 1920 x 1080, so there are no settings that i can adjust on the monitor.

Hi there. I have a problem that just presented itself in the last 24 hours. I have previously connected my laptop computer to my HDTV via the HDMI port on a regular basis but randomly as of last night my laptop will no longer acknowledge that the HDMI is connected to the HDTV. I have tested 2 different HDMI cables to be sure they are working properly as well as all 3 ports on my HDTV and made sure the TV was on the correct input. I have not done any updates/installations/uninstalls/deletions/resolutions changes or anything else that could have prompted this issue. I double checked my graphics card drivers, which were out of date but I was able to update them. I have cleaned my registry, did a system restore, checked for viruses/malware/spyware, power drained, and rebooted multiple times.

On, what I would call, a related note... The online game that I play has also started having problems when I run it. This started the exact same time that my laptop's HDMI would no longer connect to my HDTV, hense the belief of relation. The game has become extremely laggy dropping me down to 2-3 fps. I can drop my video settings down to minimum and be lag free, however, I have been playing the game on this same laptop for 8 months on the highest ultra settings with absolutely no problems until whatever occurred last night.

These 2 things lead me to believe it is a graphics card problem. I am currently running NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G. As I said before, I have updated to the most recent ... Read more
