Counting the Spans of Zeros between non-zero values

Q: Counting the Spans of Zeros between non-zero values

I have data of the monthly total of purchases by each customer. It looks something like this: 0,0,0,100,200,0,0,300,0,0,0,20,0,250,0,0. All in separate cells in a row. I want to be able to return the values of 2,3,1. I need to find a way to count the amount of zero values between the non zero values. With or without the amount of zeros following the last nonzero number is a little less important. For reference I have a formula to count to the amount of months since the first purchase and also the amount of months since the last purchase. They are the following: =COUNT(DD2:INDEX(A2:DD2,MATCH("",T(1/A2:DD2),0))) and =ROWS(A2:DD2)-MATCH(2,1/(A2:DD2>0))+108. Any Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks PS using Excel 2010 I believe

A: Counting the Spans of Zeros between non-zero values

Try the array formula below in DL2. Confirm it with Ctrl + Shift + Enter instead of the regular Enter. Fill down through all of your rows, then fill right as far as you need to. In each column it should list the size of the gap between non-zero entries. See attached for (hopefully) more clarity: =IFERROR(SMALL(IF($G2:$DJ2>0,COLUMN($G2:$DJ2)),COLUMN(A:A)+1)-SMALL(IF($G2:$DJ2>0,COLUMN($G2:$DJ2)),COLUMN(A:A))-1,"") The results I've checked appear to hold up?

Hi all,

I have an excel sheet with numbers of different users, numbers of different municipalities and in each record a code for a status:A-B-C-D-E-H and X.
I would need to calculate for each user the total of occurrences of the different statuses, as well as the overall total of all his records. For instance user nr 100 has 45 records, with 20 A statuses, 15 B statuses, 10 C statuses, etc...
I added a sample file.
Thanks in advance for any help.

My span is currently two 2TB and one 1TB disks. So I have a "virtual" 5TB hard drive. If I purchase a 4TB drive will Windows be able to add that to the span? I have a feeling since the 4TB drive needs to be partitioned as GPT (and the others don't) it might not work. Spans also require the disks to be converted to dynamic drives and I'm not sure if this has any effect on the 4TB drive.
Thanks a bunch.

Hello Everyone,
(This is kind of long but I didn't know how else to explain everything)

There are two parts to my question below.

I have a spreadsheet with roughly 40 columns

An Example of some of the columns would be:

Code:

B1 = Client Name E1 = Travel F1 = Backup G1 = PC Install H1 = Data Recovery | X1 = Total | AE1 = Summary
B2 = Tony Smith E2 = $70.00 F2 = $0.00 G2 = $95.00 H2 = $0.00 | X2 = $165.00 | AE2 = (See Below)
B3 = Tom Daniel E3 = $70.00 F3 = $0.00 G3 = $0.00 H3 = $725.00 | X3 = $795.00 | AE3 = (See Below)
B4 = Rene Little E4 = $70.00 F4 = $125.00 G4 = $95.00 H4 = $995.00 | X4 = $1285.00 | AE4 = (See Below)

Currently this spreadsheet is being analyzed to be used to track field technician jobs and figure everything out for accounting.

I have been asked to please make a cell with a list of the information above so that accounting can just copy and paste from that cell into quickbooks in order to send these people out a receipt instead of having to retype everything into quickbooks. This list has to be based upon whether or not there is a value greater than 0 within that cell then it will grab both the heading cell in the first row and the value of that cell it was checking and place it as a line item in another cell.

I know how to do half of what they are asking and if I was dealing with 1 column I can do the other half.

I know how to list items in 1 cell using the c... Read more

In sheet 1 Column A has current values, Column B has the new value for each entry.

In sheet 3 has a list of entries

What formula can I use to automatically replace the value SHEET3:ColumnA with the appropriate value from SHEET1:column B? The lists are quite long. Resulting in a list on sheet 3 that looks like this:
SOP-001
SOP-003
SOP-003
SOP-002
SOP-001

A:Solved: Excel-Substitute values from a list of new values

Hi bongiojf, welcome to TSG.

You can do this with a vlookup formula, assuming that the old values are in the leftmost column and that they are sorted alphabetically.

On sheet 3, in column B (or any blank column) use this formula for the first cell and then copy it down the rest of the column:

=VLOOKUP(A1,Sheet1!$A$1:$B$3,2)

Change the range $A$1:$B$3 to be the range of data you have on Sheet 1. The number 2 at the end of the formula indicates that the new values are in the second column from the left. If they are not, change the number accordingly. For example, if they are in column D, the value would be 4.

Once you have the new data in your blank column, you can copy the column and paste special/values over the existing data on sheet 3.

Hope that helps.

I want to insert into my database; 1 of the fields is a 'created' field. eg if its August then is I need to create a variable in vb with August in it. ANd Date onComm is Today's date (now). But the rest of the fields are from an linked xcel spread sheet. How do I code this? At present I have in SQL
INSERT INTO CommCustomer ( Accno, Contractno, DateonComm, Amount, CommDate )
SELECT [ Acc] AS Accno, Milcar.[Contract No ] AS Contractno, Now() AS DATEonComm, [ Rec] AS Amount, MonthName([DateonComm],True) AS CommDate
FROM Milcar
WHERE ((([ Rec])<>0));

But I get invalid procdure call; I actually want it in VB.

sql = "Insert INTO CommCustomer (Accno,CommMonth,Contractno,DateonComm,Amount)" & _
"SELECT "[ Acc], [Contract No ], [ Rec], " & _
" FROM Milcar " & _

So my question is how do I insert 2 fields that are not from the select clause - I actually need to use values from them?

Good morning,

I will try to explain this best to my knowledge. I have a worksheet that will work as a report. This report will be based on Contracts. In one file (Physical) I can have multiple contracts. All linked to the same file number.

Example if file number 1234-45678 as 2 contracts then my code will automatically add the information required, adding 2 contracts for file number 1234-45678.
Therefore my initial row 5 (Example only) will add a new row underneath and will add the following information:

A5: 1234-45678 B5: 002 C5: 1234-45678/001/HS
A6: 1234-45678 B6: 002 C6: 1234-45678/002/HS

So my column A will always be the same linking the 2 contracts. 1234-45678/001/HS and 1234-45678/002/HS belong to file number 1234-45678.

If I need to make an amendment, in house an amendment is to make modification to a contract. In my column B I will always have the amount of contracts. In the example above the amount for Contracts is 002.

If I make an amendment and the reason of the amendment is a Termination, therefore cancelling one contract to create another one, I need to be able to change all information in my Column B vs All information from Column A. So for Example:

If
A5: 1234-45678 B5: 002 C5: 1234-45678/001/HS
A6: 1234-45678 B6: 002 C6: 1234-45678/002/HS
And I need to make the above modification then I need to add another Contract but change all information from my Column B (Made in a userform, already establish). So the above example will become:

A5: 1234-45678 B... Read more

Hi everyone! I'm new here and this is my 1st post ever.

I'm an XP user and I need help regarding my NIC, when I check for the mac in ipconfig it's all zeros. I've tried disabling media sensing and it's no use as well (it's not working prior to that as well) . I've tried reinstalling, no luck. The led is normal too.

The main concern is routing is intermittent, it's like a disco light, no route, route, no route, route, it's so frustrating! My connection is via wireless (motorola antenna directed to station), there are no obstructions as well regarding line of sight.
I suspect my NIC's broken but I have to confirm this before I call in any technician.

I'll appreciate any help and thanks in advance!

I am trying to create a database in Microsoft Access to catalog all of the books in my possesion. I have set the ISNB Number field as the Primary Key for the database but when entering a number that begins with a zero the program removes the zero once I move on. Is there a way to make it leave the number alone after I enter it. The zero does have meaning when looking for a copy of the same book and it is essential that it be included.

I had an unusual happening on my PC. First noticed some instability while trying to open a file from Explorer, could not scroll down to file and it was jittery. Then, every time I tried to enter on an input line, an endless string of zeros were input and I could not overide or erase. Even on Email addressees. I tried a reboot and the zeros appeared on the start up password line and I could not logon. Same thing after complete power cycle. I suspected a stuck key on the keyboard and tried a different keyboard but no help. So I tried a complete restore. At first, it seemed to have the same problem, but somehow, eventually, I got logged on and now everything seems OK. But I don't really know what caused this and fear it could happen again. Virus?? or something. I have Norton.

OK here is my situation. My operation system is Windows 2000. I have an ASUS A7N8X-X motherboard.

My problem started when I got the SurfSideKick 3 Virus on my home PC. Long story short, I ended up reloading my operating system onto my second harddrive to get rid of it. I got online to download the drivers for my motherboard (which includes my network card) from nvidia.com and loaded them on my home computer.

My problem comes from the fact that I still can't connect to the internet with my cable modem. Windows says that my network card is operating properly, and that my drivers are adequate.

When I pull up a prompt and ipconfig /all my IP address shows up properly (169.xx.xx.x), but my physical address shows up as all zeros. I borrowed another network card from a friend, same problem.

When I check the status of the LAN connection, it says that is sending data but not receiving. I called my ISP (Knology) to have them ping the modem and they said that it is working properly.

I have tried reinstalling the drivers a couple of times, but no luck.

Also, No Firewall, No Router.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm only a little bit computer literate. I've never really put forth any time to studying these things. I pretty much learn by troubleshooting problems as they appear. Anyway...

I was having computer issues, ran a hdd diagnostic, reallocated sector count below theshold. From what I gather that means the hdd is pretty much done for. No biggie, I'll get a new HDD. But before I pack the old one into a box, I want to write zeros through the drive. I've got everything off it I need and don't want to risk somebody else getting something off it I don't want them having.

I'm using WD's diagnostic tool and it's estimating that it will take 43 hours to do a full erase. I did a quick erase and it took less than 10 minutes. Is that normal?

Hi I am having trouble figuring out how to add zeros into the middle of a PHP alphanumeric input field. We are developing a php site that would allow us to search by a part number.

The problem is that in our database, the part numbers are formatted as such:
065V0012 or 075H0678 or 085M2345
Which are all formatted as (3 numbers, a letter, and then 4 more numbers).

But we publish our part numbers as a compressed version:
65V12 or 75H678 or 85M2345 respectively.
Without the leading zero and without the middle leading zero(s)

My question is how would we have the ability to type in a search box the compressed version 65V12, and get a database match to the fully formatted part number?

I would be enormously grateful if someone could help me on this one.

Hi I'm trying to solve a problem for my dad's machine. I've run 3 separate scans (AVG, TDSS Killer, MalwareBytes) and found nothing so I don't think it could be anything to do with that. I can't seem to find any solution.

Two things:
First, what is the best freeware program out there for writing zeros to a drive in DOS? I want a program that I can just boot to the floppy and run it off of disk and easily write zeros over the drive. WD has this included in their utilities, but this is an OEM drive. I had this one program that was pretty good for this, but it only ran in Windows.
Second, any body have any tricks for recovering data on a failed drive? I have this WD drive that failed last August or September. (WD won't send drives to P.O Boxes, so I had to wait until I came home from school) When it was failing, I starting saving files by copying from this drive to another in windows, but it didn't work too well. After some time it would say the drive was disconnected and I would have to restart. At first it was after a few 100 MB and very soon it wouldn't really let me get into it so I quit. This was mid Sept and I haven't done anything since then. It has just sat disconnected in an empty HDD slot. There is about 50 GB on it and if possible I would like to just image it onto another HD. I don't think I'd get enough run time out of it to get into it and save all I want. If I can get it to run for a good 4 hours I should be able to just let it sit there and do the work.

I would like to hear anything and everything. The best method, specific processes.............whatever. Such as put the good drive on primary master and failed drive on secondary slave or what not... Read more

Hey all! I have a huge problem with my computer, and now while posting these on the forums I'm using another computer, as well, the keyboard seems to have a problem with me.

Recently, my sister noted that while typing, zeros would appear. For example, while typing 'computer', it would appear as com0pute0r, or co0mp0ute0r. As the days passed the problem gets more and more irritating. It's as if someone is pressing the zero while typing. It is so disturbing, in fact, it does not only occur while typing, when the computer is idle, a warning sound will play repeatedly. (the sound when you press a keyboard button on the desktop, the 'Teng!' sound) It can't be stopped and I can't type anything since it keeps owning me with the zeros. Please highlight anything you don't understand as I'm trying my best to explain this problem, it is so complicated. I dare not do anything, nor am I using the affected netbook as I don't want any more problems to crop up. Please help.

I'm trying to save a CSV file with leading zeros. I've tried all of the excel tricks. (Here are a couple: use an apostrophe before the zeros, format as text. I've tried '0 and concatenate, using a long string of zeros and using the right() function [must have 5 digits].)

When I save the file (as a csv) and reopen, all the leading zeros are gone. The reason I need the format like this is because it must be imported into another application as comma delimited. Thank you for any suggestions.

A:Saving leading zeros in CSV format

I have just formatted cells as text, began the string with a comma, and then entered it all, saved as csv, closed and reopened, and the formatting was preserved.

You said you tried it with an apostrophe, but did you use a comma?

BTW, formatting as text will only show the 0's in Excel, as csv does not recognise the text format. In other words, you don't need it.

I am trying to import delimited data into excel, and a large part of it is a number of columns of five number strings, some of which have leading zeros. Well, when I import them, Excel gets rid of the leading zeros. This complicates the end goal, which is importing from Excel into a proprietary app that filters for certain criteria, since this app only recognizes five-digit numbers and will boot the rest.

So my question is, can Excel's default to get rid of leading zeros be turned off? Or, obviously, is there another way I'm just not considering?

Thanks in advance for any help.

How do I import a CSV file into excel keeping the leading zeros? Excel automatically drops the leading zeros when imported. I do not want to change the column format in the import wizard because I don't know which columns have leading zeros. Has someone figured out a way to import a file into Excel without dropping the leading zeros?

A:Excel import with leading zeros

Welcome to TSG jeanniepie,
You have a dilemma. You don't want to configure the column format to text for the offending data. Without intervention Excel will determine that a group of numeric characters in a field is a ....Number. If you want it to be text you have to overide the logic and import as text.

This discussion at social microsoft describes many ways of doing what you want...most require you to know your data. --Depending on the data you may be able to import it all as text?

During the course of this thread Recover data from a diskpart > clean command it became evident that the first NTFS (also known as Partition Boot Record / Volume Boot Record) in a HDD can be at LBA 63 (Absolute Sector 63) or LBA 2048 (Absolute Sector 2048) depending upon the partitioning utility used. This is actually the starting sector of the first partition.

Partition Wizard run from a bootable pendrive formatted a 750GB Seagate GoFlex external HDD with the first NTFS at LBA 63.

Windows Disk Management formatted the same drive with the first NTFS at LBA 2048.

In both cases it was found that the diskpart clean command zeroed LBA 0 to LBA 2047.

This should remove the common misconception that the diskpart clean zeros only the MBR at LBA 0.

Even I believed it to be so thus far till a debate/discussion between me and Anshad Edavana in that thread brought this revelation.

A:diskpart clean zeros LBA 0 to LBA 2047

I did one more DISKPART experiment with a XP partitioned disk ( partition start at LBA 63 ). Regardless of the starting position of first partition at LBA 63, DISKPART zeroed the first 1 MB and last 1 MB. It looks like this behavior is hard coded in "Windows 7" version of DISKPART ( Probably in 8 too ). It make sense because DISKPART doesn't have to bother about whether the disk is partitioned in MBR or GPT scheme by wiping out first and last one MB.

Official Microsoft documentation ( DiskPart Command-Line Options ) start by these words:

Quote:
DiskPart is a text-mode command interpreter in Windows Vista, Windows? XP, and the Windows Server 2003? family

It means the documentation was probably updated lastly on 2006. Even at the time of Vista, GPT was not popular and large capacity drives are very rare. Anyway since both Vista and XP are obsolete, there won't be any practical benefit in examining how legacy version of DISKPART works.

Hi. Using excel 2000 under Win-XP. While using my own VBA program to calculate a few simple figures and display them in a cell, I have noticed that the ROUND(x,n) function is returning 8.5 instead of 8.50, even though all appropriate fields are DIM'd as Currency.

Everything else works fine. Unfortunately, this means that I have to live with displays like this:
$45.89, $56.8,$43.09 etc. I place all the figures in the same cell, so excel puts them there as a string, which is fine. Whilst using the VB editor, I can see that it is the ROUND function (or maybe excel itself) which is truncating the trailing zero.

Other than writing a special routine to add a trailing zero, is there something else I can do?
(I am leery of using a global STYLE setting because of potential complications).

Perhaps someone knows of a better ROUND function or Sub?
I assume that this is a bug in Excel, since I can't imagine why anyone would want to show an amount with only one decimal place where a zero is involved.

PS: I realize that I could give each amount its own cell and use a format to fix it that way, but I prefer to have a series of amounts separated by commas in one cell, in this case.

Thanks.

Feel free to email me directly.

I'm using the Database program in Microsoft Works Vers. 6.0, and most of the numbers require a trailing zero, but I can't get it to do so.

I want to add something like, 460.050, and the program just gives me 460.05. The default setting for Decimal places is set at 7 (default, I think), so I should be able to get 460.050, or 854.0570 with no problem, but....

How do I get it to allow an extra zero, or zero's? Any help much appreciated, first time I've used program.

I have a field that contains values like 000003300000000000. I need just the four bold characters tokept and the leading and ending zeros to be removed. I have tried changing it to a number field but this won't work! Any ideas?

A:Access 2000 - Removing leading zeros

The answer indeed involved converting the string to a number. And it involves a funciton that is available for use in queries but only shows up in the help for VIsual Basic (not in the expression builder)

1) convert the string to number than back to text. this removes the leadin zeros:

for example if [Field1] = "000345000"

then
str(val([Field1])) = " 345000"

Note that the evaluation leaves a leading blank and didn't do anything about the trailing zeros.

We're going to end up using the VAL function again and it'll ignore the leading blank
so we needn't bother with it just yet. The big problem is to get rid of the trailing zeros. You can't do this simply but you could if the order of the characters was reversed.

Let me introduce the StrReverse function. Not shown in the expression builder list or Access expression help, it is explained in visual basic help. We'll reverese the expression and the trailing zeros will become leading zeros and we'll use Str and Val again to get rid of them to get just the non-zero portion of the string:

Field 1 = 0012345000
Str(Val(StrReverse(Str(Val([Field1]))))) = " 54321

BUT THEN, the string ends up backwards... THe best way tocare of that is simply to reverse tjhe string before everything else. Then, remember to trim the leading blank (using LTrim) that the STR function will leave when everything else ot done.

Thus

Field1 = 0009912800

LTrim(Str(Val(StrReverse(Str(Val(StrRever... Read more

Let's say:

x = 3
and my filename in this case will always be 8 characters long then I do it as follows:

fname = right("00000000" & x, 8)

The answer is 00000008

if x = 42

the result is 00000042

Maybe this will help to point you in th the right way.

I have a large Excel worksheet of binary survey data coded with "1" for YES responses and empty cells for NO responses.
I am trying to use the AVERAGE function with this data but now find that each empty cell needs to have a zero in it for the AVERAGE function to work properly.
What can I do to automatically insert a zero in each empty cell in a large range of data?

Dell laptop with a WD 750GB Black hard disc. Decided to do a clean install of the OS after upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I wanted to go back to 7 and start with a clean drive and used Western Digital's Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for DOS.
Wrote zeros to the drive, and then booted to my retail version of Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, only to receive an unmountable boot volume error. Ran a quick test on the disc and it came back error free. Now running the full test but it takes about 90 minutes.
In the meantime, any suggestions on what is wrong and how to correct it? Thank you.

We have an issue where Windows Desktop Search V4.0 on Windows XP SP3 doesn't search numbers with leading zeros.

For example we have documents that contain a certain reference 016-073, Windows Desktop Search also displays documents, which contain page numbers 16-73.

We don't want that, we want to be able to get exact results for 016-073. We tried advance syntax such as single and double quotation marks, but search still displays results where leading zeros are ignored.

Indexing is done on a windwos 2008 R2 server (which is also a file server) and Widnows desktop search uses the UNC path to search the file server shared folders.

I've enabled treat similar words with diacritics as different words to no avail.

I've applied hotfix Windows6.1-KB977380-x64 as well

Any suggestions?

Our department receives an Excel spreadsheet with a multitude of sheets on a regular basis from another department. Some of the cells are formatted as "General" and others as "Text". One of our departments macros searches for certain instances of a number on the Logic and Flow columns such as the number "1". In doing so, the macro finds "1", "21", "102" and so on. Or if seaching for the number "20", it finds "20", "120", "201" and so forth. I would like to run a macro on each sheet that would, if need be, change all of the data in the Logic and Flow columns to Text and then add leading zeros to make each of the numbers in the cells 3 digits long. In my example, Cell B2 original has a 4 and a 2 (4 2). I want to end up with 004 and 002 (004 002). In my example, Cell B8 original has a 20AT. I want to end up with 020AT.

In my attached example, Columns B & C are what we get from the other department. I want to end up with what is shown in columns F & G.

Hi Again

CodeLexicon gave me a code that worked very well in hiding column A only. Is it possible to make the macro hide all columns with all zeros?? Also I tried to change CodeLexicon's macro to do hide all rows whose columns have zeros but without success. I tried to make the code generic.

Attached is a workbook with the 2 macros. Test the macro that I did out and see that it only hides row A only.

The computer will also automatically fill in forms with 0 and/or . and send them.

I can boot up, but anything other than mouse work is difficult as any typing will start the 0 and . stuff.

Pressing ESC will stop the entrys, but it will often start up again.

I have run malwarebytes and spybot, but nothing is there.

Ok first of all i apologize if this question has already been addressed but I am having serious problems with my computer and it is a miracle that i was even able to make it this far.

I have Windows XP with sp2 i believe. I purchased this computer back in 2005 so its pretty old but i havent had many problems with it until recently. I didnt have internet for about 2 years so my comp was safe from viruses and whatnot. i just got internet about 2 months ago and since then my girlfriend has been downloading numerous files through frostwire, many containing viruses.

I have an 80gig hard drive that has 2 partitions. one is my C:\ drive and the other is my D:\ drive which is my recovery drive. My computer did not come with any sort of recovery disk, only the 2nd partition on my hard drive.

in the last month the computer has became practically unusable. now that i have finally given up on the computer i just want to write zeros to the C:\ partition of my hd & hope that it would allow me to load from D:\ to reinstall windows. let me mention that i have already done a system restore 2 or 3 times on this computer and it would halfway work but not like it should.

well, going through my system restoration using F8 or F1 or something like that during start up, it gives the option to look through C:\i386 or C:\windows.

about a month ago i was looking for how to do a system restore and stumbled across this screen. i chose the 2nd option which was C:\windows and it gave me a list o... Read more

etc.

How can I force the ages to have a leading zero so that they appear in sequence in reports?

I know if I format the Age field as Number they appear correctly sorted in reports, but then I can't use text as well in that field.

Thanks for your help,

A:Importing txt file into Access text field with leading zeros

It might be simpler to modify the input data from Excel, so they are correct, or perhaps a little bit of vba code might be useful to whip through that field's data to modify those records which have a number to have leading zeros.

Hello All:

All I want to do is create an Audio CD from some .mp3 files I have.
(15 .mp3 files = 55.9MB)

I have tried ImgBurn, Ashampoo Burning Studio, and BurnAware.

I have tried changing the write speeds to the lowest settings.

It all seems to go well until the end of the burn when every program tells me the Write Failed. That's it- and I don't know why.

I have an IDE Plextor DVD/RW (PX-870A ATA) drive.

Any ideas about settings? Or anything else I should be checking?

TIA!

How long are those mp3 files, not in bytes but in minutes?

Things ro consider... when buring a standard audio CD, the mp3 files must first be converted wav files, the burning programs do this automatically.. at least most of them do. If the mp3s are encoded at a high bit rate the wav files could be quite large... is it possible you're exceeding the size limit for the CD?

The other thing to remember.. although it shouldn't affect the burn, use "Disk At Once".

Hello. I bought a used computer a few months back (app. 7-8 mos. ago), but was not hooked up to the internet until 3 weeks ago or so. I got Aol dial-up & unsuccessfully tried to download their anti-virus program, but due to an earlier installation of Norton, some files were still on hard drive, & AOL would not proceed until they were found & deleted. So the bottom line was I was so thrilled to be back on the internet that I didn't push the anti-virus program issue. My fault totally, but when I finally did run a Pc-cillin scan, I was completely shocked at the NUMBER of viruses- I was only through 1/3 of my files & it was reading 7,000 +. However, as I looked at the files being scanned I realized that I did not recognize any of them & the virus which was pre-dominant, Worm GAO, was probably on the computer when I bought it, propagating away. Anyway, I realize the hard drive is toast, but are any of the files salvageable? Could I use Pc-cillin to scan individual files & save them to CD or do I still run risks of re-infecting a new hard drive? Also, I uploaded photos to Yahoo, so if people were to download them to their computers, will they contain viruses? How about saved e-mail? And yes, I definitely learned my lesson the hard way!!! Thanks to anyone, for advice. I have Windows XP Professional. System Manufacturer VIA Technologies, Model VT82C597. AMD-K6 (tm) 3D Processor, MMX, 3D now, 500 mhz . Thank you.

To put it in a nutshell, I downloaded a game, tried to open it, however it never did. Now accessing my processes list... I have over 500 processes running, and counting. All under the name of the game. My laptop doesn't appear to be running noticeably slower, however these 500 processes are going to mess my computer up sooner or later..

I scanned the executable file with MalwareBytes, Kaspersky (my background AV) and Microsoft Defender. It was clean. Kaspersky however, noted that the program was potential dangerous, only because the digital signature was missing. I told Kaspersky to 'Limit' execution - only to stop dangerous actions.

I then continued to watch my process list grow up to 1000, running under my username. Then eventually, the physical memory overloaded and my computer crashed.

Several days later the same thing occurred. However this time, with a different game. I scanned it, and it was clean. I told Kapsersky to once again, limit execution with no digital signature. Within seconds of opening the game, I had over 200 processes, and the number was slowly rising. I had to hit 'End Process Tree' in order to stop my computer from crashing again.

One person suggested that it had to do with Kaspersky... As other games have worked in the past without limiting them.

I know it isn't a virus or anything malicious, perhaps a glitch? And how can I prevent it?

Additional Info:
Windows 7
AV: Kaspersky Pure

Thanks in advance.

A:500 Processes And Counting?

Try Googling the names of some of these processes. Perhaps that will help you figure out what's causing them or if they're malicious.

Also, do you have alot of icons in your task bar next to clock in the lower right hand corner of your monitor? If so, you can disable the ones you don't need running and that'll free up some resources.

Howdy,

I have an Excel document with hundreds of values all with leading zeros.
The number of zeros varies from cell to cell, and the cell lengths may vary, so I might have something like:

00000123
000000012004
00555555
00000000000000ABC
00DEFGHIJ

I need to remove the leading zeros from all cells.
I can't multiply by the values by 1, because of the non-numeric entries.
I can't Replace All zeros, cos it would replace any zeros that appear within the codes, not just the leading ones.
I can't do a Replace All searching for * then a specific character, because the first char of the code is not specific.

So I'm thinking I need to do something like:
=RIGHT(A1, FIND(<>"0",A1,1)-x)
Obviously that doesn't work, cos it doesn't like the <>"0" part, and I can't put a set number in place of the "x" at the end as the number of characters to return differs from cell to cell.

Or maybe use the SUBSTITUTE function somehow, though again I still need to tell it to stop when it hits a char other than zero, as =SUBSTITUTE(A1,"0","") applied to line 2 in my example data above would return 124 instead of 12004.

Thanks!

I have a valid IPv6 address on my Windows 7 PC, and when I do a wireshark, I can see that TCP packets destined to my PC are not responded to when there are padded bytes to the

I've tested this scenario against an Linux Ubuntu LTS 14.04, and I do not see any anomalies with padded frames.<o:p></o:p>

Hey all;

Working a mail merge issue in Word 2010 with the data list in Excel 2010. We have a column of truck numbers in one column that fills to a field in the mail merge. The numbers are formatted as 81112, for example. When we have one truck number as shown there is no problem. We have some contractors, however, with more than one truck so the cell contains several truck numbers as, 81112 & 81032 & 82044. When we run the merge the field in the word doc shows a zero. I can't seem to figure a formatting solution to get all three truck numbers to show in the field.

Any help or direction is appreciated.

Thanks.

A:[SOLVED] Mail Merge runs zeros in certain number fields instead of numbers from list.

Hi mduffel,

The problem is caused by the mixture of numbers and text in the same column (anything string containing non-digits is not a 'real' number). When evaluating a datasource for mailmerge, Word queries the first 10-15 rows to determine the type. If the data are all/primarily numeric, the mailmerge will evaluate any non-numeric field as 0. A workaround is to ensure the first few rows have non-numeric data, either by inserting some dummy data rows, or by ordering the data accordingly.

Counting the number of particular process,

I couldn?t figure out if there is a way to count the number of particular process. For example, in the attached screenshot, the number of ?ArcSoc.exe? is three.

Is there a way to count them automatically?

Thank you

Best

Jamal

A:Counting the number of particular process,

You could click on the name column to sort processes by ascending/descending order. From the looks of things, your system is set up to sort based on disk activity right now.

Hello,

I recently put a workstation together and am expeirencing the memory counter checking/testing/counting the memory 5 or more times. Sometimes its only three, tonight it was five or six...

The board is an MSI 6368 ver2.1

The BIOS is Award Modular W6368MS Ver 3.1 051501 Pentium 3 1000 Mhz 133 x 7.5 512mb of pc133 generic memory [IBM]

The power supply is 250 watt, and is running Windows Advanced Server, why? I dont know... practise ... lol.. anyways...

It gives me the option "esc" to skip memory test then boot.

I would like to know how to set this counter so it is not counting the memory more than once at boot up.

Thank You

Eli
