Hi, I am trying to find the drivers for the SM Bus Controller and USB Controller for the Pavilion P6-2307a. If I go to the drivers download and download any of the updates, it does not install it. I run Windows 7 64-bit and I made sure that I downloaded the correct drivers.  When launching them, Windows 7 comes back asking if the installer ran properly which means that somehow it did not. Then it asks if you want to run it in compatibility mode and if I say yes, nothing happens. Can someone please let me know where I can find the correct drivers to make this work on Windows 7 64-bit. ThanksSaj

My stepson has an HP Pavilion dv1000 notebook. The power supply gets extremely hot and seems to be melting the tip to the plug where it connects to the notebook. Does this seem to be a problem with the notebook or only with the power supply. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

A:HP Pavilion notebook

wow that is pretty hot... does it always run that hot, or does it only run that hot when he's gaming, or watching a movie? could just be a demanding laptop, but then again you could take it to a PC specialist (comp usa or local computer shop) and get the powersupply checked out. dang if it's melting the tip thats pretty hot... My dad's apple powerbook gets up to 75 degrees celcius when he's just surfing the web and stuff, so hot you have to take it off your legs if you don't want to burn yourself. so get it checked out, might just be a demanding laptop.

I also installed HP support assistance for further assistance to make sure everything work just okay. Things to describe here, everything works absolutely fine without the built in Micro issue for Audio device. It is litterally not working to input audio anymore here. A:Re: hp pavilion 15 notebook Usb 3

Hi, It is great to upgrade system to Windows 10, but in the same time, series of issues occur, like the USB device issue. After upgrading the system to Windows 10, you find that your USB device cannot connect to your PC. You may need to plug your external devices like MP3, pen drive, printer, etc. to your computer through the USB ports. So it is very inconvenient that the USB ports don?t work properly. Solutions below may help you fix the USB port issue. Since your USB device works properly before you upgrade the system, the problem most probably is not caused by the USB device. But you can also plug the USB device to another computer. If it unfortunately doesn?t work, you can consider replacing the device. Following are the solutions to figure out the problem. Solution 1: Check if the problem is caused by power supply issue 1. Unplug the power supply and charger plug from your PC.2. Restart your PC. Connect your USB device to the PC again. Then you can plug the power supply.Solution 2:The Power Management would also be the cause of the USB problems. Windows is set to shut down your USB controller to save power by default, sometimes it won?t be able to power it back up. So try following steps to prevent Windows from ?managing? power to your USB controller or the devices.1. Open Device Manager.2. Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers branch.3. Double-click the USB Root Hub device, and click the Power Management tab. (if there?... Read more

Hello there...

I'm needing help diagnosing a non-working HP Pavilion ZE1000
I received it from a friend after it failed. None of the laptop leds would turn on, and there were no POST beeps of any kind. The HDD and CD unit would turn -the floppy won't, but it might be a BIOS setting-, but the screen won't show anything at all.

After double-checking the obvious (LCD disabled, brightness setting, power supply output, etc.) I checked internet and found that the DC jack is a common problem with these laptops. Sure enough, on this one it was a little loose, but even after fixing it all the symptoms stay the same. I have tried re-setting all the connectors and looking for any obvious damage on the mobo (there's none).

The weird thing is that if I leave the laptop "on" (Fan & HDD turning), after a while the CPU and the VIA chipset get warm. Should I just assume that the BIOS is fried, or are these symptoms of a defunct mobo?

Is there any guru around that has dealt with this problem before?

Thanks for your help,

JR

A:Help diagnosing HP Pavilion notebook

Can you try an external monitor? Disconnecting all extra hardware (drives) and replacing the memory are some things to try.

Nothing weird about CPU and chipset getting warm - BIOS is exactly that (Basic) and does not bother with power savings and such.

Page 67 gives you part number, you can use part number to order from HP or online stores. Please note: this is an old machine and RAM could be a bit hard to find now.For OS: Windows 7 drivers are available on itshomepage:          http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-dv7-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/374... You are much better to upgrade to Windows 7 than others because HP supports it. Welcome
You dmps are showing code 116, and that can be a problem as small as a driver, but can be hardware, such as memory or worse
atikmpag.sys
You can update the driver.
If it is anything else it is most likely hardware related. Since it is new, you may want to exercise the Warranty. I know from past experience, too many changes will void the warranty.

Got this new laptop for Christmas.  It came with only 1 stick of 8GB Ram.  Went to BB and got a pair of 8GB DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 PNY.  Now my laptop overheats and locks up.  The only difference is the old memory stick was a DDR3L, the new memory is only DDR3. This memory should work, why is it not?

There's the problem. No it should not work. I am surprised it boots and runs. The laptop is designed for low-voltage memory and you really should not use anything else on a 6th gen Intel Core processor. Did you ask the geniuses (oops wrong store) at BB what your laptop needed or pick it out yourself? Can you take it back and get DDR3L? Pretty sure BB stocks it. My spouses laptop which had not been used in months, on plugging it into my router/ modem was working fine, updated Norton , still worked okay then windows updates came down 112 plus 5 optional updates were installed, after doing a restart I found the mouse would not work and One note kept popping up and the notebook kept freezing up. I finally tried to resyore to an earlier date, no difference, then I tried a refresh but that failed with an error message, no idea what it said it flashed on and off so fast I did not have a chance to read it. Now I am doing a recovery using the HP recovery discs, it just prompted me to insert disc 2, on the instruction sheet sent with the discs it says to press F9 but it seems that did not work so tried F 11 and that worked. I have never been able to set him up with his own Microsoft account password, it always rejects it or changes mine, phone Microsoft many time about this but no help.If anyone can let me know what is going on with this laptop let me know, I cannot use it without the mouse although my spouse can, but it should work. Inserted disc 2 and pressed enter but a long list of messages appeared about no bootable device, so now I am really stuck. please help, it was windows 8and the updates were windows 8.1.

Hi All:
A few weeks ago I started to download DVDShrink from what looked like a perfectly legitimate company site. After I clicked to download the program it began to install itself. At the same time all kinds of alarms went off - Comodo, Malwarebytes, etc. - and I quickly shut down.
After booting up I ran a quick Mbam scan and it found 32 infected files which I deleted. I then ran a full Mbam scan and it found a bunch more. Later I also ran full Mbam and Avast scans but this time around neither came up with anything. I also used ERUNT to replace the Registry with a clean copy made earlier.
For a few days everything ran OK but then Firefox began to freeze up whenever I brought up a page with a Youtube video on it. Then other things started to freeze - Task Manager, etc. - and now it's reached the stage that the computer won't boot up properly at all. Almost everything is frozen. The computer won't even start in Safe Mode. At best it just brings up my mouse pointer (which is working) and my desktop wallpaper but nothing more.
Different Windows messages have appeared at times one of which said something to the effect that Windows was stopping to prevent further damage. There is a separate RESTORE section on the drive for restoring the computer to factory settings but I can't access it. Since I can't get into the computer to do anything at all I'm wondering if there's any way of being able to get the com... Read more

Hi, The following link shows it specs:     http://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04781158 It has 2GB of dedicated video card and MAY (yes may) have up to over 3,000 MB of available system RAM (to make around 6GB). It can go up to 6GB when required, 4.1 is a snapshot number when you are looking at. Again, this number is not a fixed number. Regards.

Hello everyone,my laptop was working fine, suddenly some keys stopped working like T, Y, Tab, left ctrl, 9 (numlock), F10. I was searching troughout the forum didn't find nothing which could solve me the problem.  I'm using windows 8.1 and I've tried also to test them over Linux,  nothing, same problem. Even when I start the BIOS menu and there is a command to select with F10 in BIOS I can't select it. It won't recognize (tried with and without the key fn). Didn't also split anything on it, so I'm asking here for any help before I go to a service. Any ideas? Thanks

I have an HP Pavilion Notebook (dv9724tx) running Vista which, whenever i turn it on, switches on the led lights, the fan moves for a few seconds then everything stops, with the screen remaining black. The LED lights stay on, the computer just won't boot into the BIOS. It is not a battery problem and I have tried reseating the RAM. This all occured after the computer suddenly died while booted, then after starting to boot back into windows afterwards, died while loading Vista. It has not displayed anything on the screen since.

A:HP Pavilion Notebook Not Booting

Nice machine and configuration.
I would first try removing two memory modules, and attempting a boot with the third.. then if that doesn't work, change modules until you have tried all three.
It is difficult to trouble-shoot a machine like that... but we are seeing a LOT of ealy failures in the large laptops hard drives from 250 GB to 500 GB, so suspect that your hard drive might be bad. A good test would be to try any other known good hard drive from 80 GB on up to 500 GB... can you borrow one, then try to format and install it.
If still dead when you change memory and hard drive, it is time to get it back to HP for warranty work.
Anything you do that is not memory and not a hard drive will void your warranty.

No sound. Rolled back audio drivers, restarted, no sound. Installed older recommended audio drivers, restarted, no audio still... Installed HP Hardware Diagnostic Tool (was able to get audio to play through speakers during a hardware test in BIOS). --------------------- That lead me t... Hello.I am a student going into my first year at University. I have had my HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC for two years and slowly it has started falling apart. I take pride in looking after my things [phones, ipods e.c.t], but this laptop has seriously upset me, I used to have a laptop before this and it lasted for over 6 years. The corners on the HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC started to come undone and I used some tape to ease the weight when closing the lid but suddenly the two clips holding each joint came out and refuse to go back in and one of the hinges came out completely causing the laptop to be tilted and unable to close. I am extremely upset that this laptop is this fragile, I did some research and noticed that I'm not the only one with this issue and its seems to be common. I have seriously cannot afford to purchase a new laptop as I need to buy lots of books for University and also need a laptop to study.

Does anyone on the forum have this particular laptop working under Windows 7 (on HP's site, it shows that the only supported OS are XP/2000/Vista (32/64 bit)?

The machine can support a max of 2GB of ram, and is a dual core 1.8Ghz processor.

I will have the laptop in my hands tomorrow to examine in depth...

That likely means those sre the OSes that HP supports. They may not have shipped this model with Win 7, hence no support. The spec you list are ok for 32 bit and nominal for 64 bit. This tool can help if you download on the PC in question: Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - Download - Microsoft Windows

crabman198 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! All laptops have internal CMOS batteries as they are needed to retain the CMOS settings when the laptop is shut down. This is the link to the Maintenance and Service manual for your PC: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04642845 On page 54, it shows the steps for accessing and removing the battery. If you remove the battery, that will reset the CMOS settings -- but you can easily change them once the battery is replaced and you restart the laptop.Good Luck

I have been using my HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-p174na for casual use (a couple of times a week, nothing strenuous at all) since I purchased it a year and a half ago. Yesterday I completed a spreadsheet and checked/sent some emails and then turned it off and put it on charge overnight. This morning I unplugged it and put it away. Then on getting it out to use again this evening I cannot get it to start. I have checked a lot of support pages and searches for the problem and have tried all solutions I have come across (hard resets, attempting turn on with and without battery and/or AV power cord). Nothing seems to work. There are no flashing lights or noises coming from the notebook at all. There also seems to be no damage to any of the cables or power equipment. Please advise what course of action I should now take.

Hi All:

Mr Bruce 1959 has suggested I re-post my problem here so here goes:
A few weeks ago I started to download DVDShrink from what looked like a perfectly legitimate company site. After I clicked to download the program it began instead to install itself.
For a few days everything ran OK but then Firefox began to freeze up whenever I brought up a web page with a Youtube video on it. Then other things started to freeze - Task Manager, etc. - and now it's reached the stage that the computer won't boot. The computer won't even start in Safe Mode. At best it just brings up my mouse pointer (which works) and the Windows Welcome screen but nothing more.
Different Windows messages have appeared at times one of which said something to the effect that Windows was stopping to prevent further damage. There is a separate RECOVERY partition on the D drive for restoring the computer to factory settings but I can't access it.

Pressing the F keys on startup bring up the following screens while pressing the ESC key on startup brings up a menu listing all five of thes... Read more

Hi guys... After reinstalling Windows 7 , my Network Controller driver is missing. Under "other devices", undernetwork adapters, in Device manager. Can anyone explain how I can fix this? Thanks, Carl

A:G60 Notebook PC Network Controller driver missing after re...

Hi: Most of the G60's came with the Atheros 5007 b/g wlan adapter, so see if this driver works for you... This package contains the drivers for the supported Atheros Wireless LAN Adapters in the supported notebook models running a supported operating system. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp54501-55000/sp54972.exe If that driver doesn't work then I will need you to post the hardware ID for the network controller so I can figure out what model wireless card your notebook has. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the Network Controller needing drivers. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the Network Controller window. Now you will see a Property drop down list and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list and select the 2nd item (hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

I just bought a new HP Pavilion dm4-1165dx laptop today and so far it looks fantastic, however I am the type of user who doesn?t like all the extra software that usually comes with a new computer so I decided to format the HD and install a clean copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit.

After successfully installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit I went to the HP? support site and download the most common drivers, however now i am having a driver issue:

Problem: Under Other devices, there is ?PCI Simple Communication Controller? that needs a driver.

I had installed most of the drivers from the HP support site except the following:

Under: Driver Chipset
- Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver

Reason: I wasn?t sure if I need this driver or not, perhaps is for a different type of computer or model?

Under: Driver Chipset
- Intel Turbo Boost Technology Driver

Reason: I know what is this driver for but for some reason I decided not to install it since I believe it was already included when I installed the ?Intel Graphics Driver (64-bit)? driver.

PCI Simple Communication ControllerClick to expand...

Off hand i'd guess that's for a fax/modem connection... Is there an RJ-11 port for a phone cord on the computer? Did you see any fax/modem software on the web site?
Make sure devices are connected and powered on
Click Start->Run, enter: msinfo32. Click the + sign next to Components to expand it
Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?
If yes, click on it, Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy it, Ctrl-V to paste into next post
On the other hand, if no devices are listed, tell me so

I've installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 in my HP DV6 laptop. There are no drivers in it now. The device manager shows a lot of yellow symbols. I hope the windows update will update all the drivers, but for that I need the laptop to be able to connect to internet. There's no WiFi/Ethernet driver either. Here are the Hardware Ids of the Ethernet Controller from the Device Manager:PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_1657103C&REV_06PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_1657103CPCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&CC_020000PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&CC_0200 Here are the Hardware Ids of the Network Controller from the Device Manager:PCI\VEN_1814&DEV_539F&SUBSYS_1637103C&REV_00PCI\VEN_1814&DEV_539F&SUBSYS_1637103CPCI\VEN_1814&DEV_539F&CC_028000PCI\VEN_1814&DEV_539F&CC_0280 Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi: Go to your specific model dv6's support and driver page. Download and install the Ralink wireless card driver, and the Realtek ethernet (LAN) driver.

Hello, can anyone help me to find a driver for my video controller? I've just upgraded to windows 7 from xp, and HP doesnt seem to make drivers for my old laptop anymore, though windows 7 is running pretty smoothly! I've been able to find all of the missing drivers, like the one for my soundcard, and install them either in vista or xp compatibility mode, but I can't seem to find this last one. I read in another thread that the hardware IDs might be helpful. Well, here are the hardware ids listed for my video controller (I'm still not even sure what the video controller does):
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2792&SUBSYS_3081103C&REV_03
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2792&SUBSYS_3081103C
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2792&CC_038000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2792&CC_0380

If anyone could help me with this, I would certainly appreciate it.

Oh, one other thing, while I'm posting here, my track pad works to click and move the pointer around the screen, but the scrolling functionality has gone. Anyone have any suggestions on this one? Thanks.

My Experience with HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-g198ca  Overall I liked  this and not HP product enough to keep it which is the only assessment that matters.  I did have huge issues with this product but most of it was due to Microsoft Windows 10 bungles not HP Battery:  Insuffient but thats not what this laptop is designed for.... nobodys going to lug this thing around its too heavy.  Fot its intended purpose the battery is actually sufficient otherwide the unit would be even heavier. Keyboard:  No issues, everything is well thought out IMO Touchpad:  Has a learning curve but once you train yourself I abandoned my mouse.  Has issues with non button  taps and doubleclicks being missed .... training helps but does not eliminate.  Two finger scroll actually works well Sound:  Sound through headpne jack is exceptional IMO.  The B&O speakers/tuning isn't going to fool anyone but don't sound horrendous. Compelling .lLaptop sound simply can't be done without redifining the laptop.  I have a Sony X2 bluetooth I use for this purpose and it sounds great.  Don't buy the bigger ones as they have some alien DSP that you can't turn OFF.  CPU and Graphics load can make it stutter but you have to try pretty hard. Screen: Superb in both colour, black, angle and brightness.  Mine had minor light bleeding and a single dead pixel that you can't see without a magnifying glass.... Teamviewer gave me plenty of quirky issues, so I ended up ditching it for LogMeIn.

Hi, I have an hp pavilion g6-2321ss with an intel core i7 processor. I have had it for about 2 years. It had not occured to me to use this forum til now.Originally it ran on win8, but it was almost inoperative (extremely slow) and I upgraded to windows 10. Since I installed the new system the computer has been incredibly slow and sluggish. Opening a program, for instance a browser can take over a minute, rendering it unusable. Old computers are faster. I belive all upgrades on system are done. Booting time is about 300 seconds, and after booting it does not work well, on the contrary, it takes some time for it to "warm up". What can I do?Thank you,Lisa

I purchased this computer new in March 2016 and connected it WiFi to my BT Home Hub 5 router. It has been OK until recently when it has been unable to connect with my BT email provider. It has remained connecyted with the router and I can get online with other web addresses, but not with BT email. I am sending this via another laptop (also connected WiFi) with the router, so there is nothing wrong with the router or connecting with it - ccexcept in the case of the new Pavilion.  I can connect with BT email both WiFi through another laptop and my desktop. Do I need to reconfiger the Pavilion. If so, I would appreciate any advice - or other help'Thanks in advance.John155

A:LOGGING INTO EMAIL FROM HP PAVILION NOTEBOOK

Hello John155, First of all, welcome at the HP forums. So according to your message you can connect to the internet with the Pavilion but you are not able to connect to one specific service called "BT Email".  Am I right? Could you explain it a bit more thoroughly? It currently is hard to determine what is wrong here. You cannot enter your mail? you cannot enter a webpage? or something else? Winos.

My 4.5-year-old HP Pavilion P7-1074 desktop was down last week. Planed to get a replacement on Black Friday or Boxing Day. But I do need to run some programs inside the desktop's hard drve. So I attatched my desktop's hard dive to my HP Pavilion 15 Notebook's USB port with an Enclosure. The laptop could recognize the external hard drive as SYSTEM (F 62.2 MB free of 97.9 MB, OS (G1.11 TB free of 1.35 TB, and HP_RECOVERY (H 1.33 GB free of 11.0 GB. But I could not find out the programs I wanted to run. I went into the BIOS to set the Boot order to Boot from USB first, but I could not get the result I expected. The laptop always boots from its own hard drive. I tried all three USB ports, no one worked. Could somebody please help me?Thanks a lot!

Over the past couple weeks, my laptop occasionally started making a sort of "rattling" noise. However, I was always able to stop the noise by lightly hitting the side where the fan is. However, a couple days ago it has became worse. I am in college and i'm worried that its becoming a distraction to other students. Now, when it starts to make the noise, I will lightly hit the side and the noise improves, but hardly goes away. After a couple of seconds, the rattling noise returns. I do not know much about the hardware of a laptop, and I have searched solutions on the internet. No one has mentioned that the sound stops after tapping the top left side of the laptop (side with the fan).  Does anyone know a solution? Preferably one that doesn't involve me opening up my laptop. Thanks for your time!
