Y510p slow when not plugged in and dangerously ove...

Q: Y510p slow when not plugged in and dangerously ove...

What do?

No but seriously, any suggestions?
I've done some research and this issue might be related to the fact that I mostly use my laptop while it is plugged in. I opened it up and got rid of some dust but to no effect.
Max temperatures reach up to 100C when it is plugged in, without even gaming or engaging in any other kind of heavy activity. Posting this from my phone cause I'm afraid to fry the poor thing.

XP is running dangerously slow. Even when I type right now, it's freezing and acting up. I don't think it's spywares or viruses since I've scanned and their both clean. Do you have a clue how to get it working at a normal speed again? Thanks in advance.

Also when I boot up I always have to go to 'Last Good Configuration' to get it working. If I don't it comes up a blue screen and restarts straight away - I think it has a messege with something to do with a video card. Not sure though.

Hey, I bought Lenovo y510p laptop like 2 weeks ago. It is the SLI version of the y510p. The laptop worked just fine when I was playing with it, ran CSGO and Skyrim on Ultra settings over 60 fps. Couple days ago, my friend broke my charger, and I went to Walmart to buy a new one. I bought the Duracell charger which is 90 watts and it was compatible with my laptop. Then I plugged it in, and tried to play csgo but the fps was like from 5 to 15. I have no idea how this happened. I also took off my battery and just tried to play it without it and just charging the laptop, and when I opened csgo the laptop shut down. I already made virus tests and there was nothing in the viruses. Please help me if you can, I really wouldn't want to send this to the warranty since it's brand new and propably gonna take atleast a month. Thank you already!

My guess is that the Charger may not be compatible with that laptop....90watts yes but has it got the correct DC output.

Also you didn't say how your original charger got broken. like was it attached to the laptop at the time?

What could be happening is..when you plug the new power supply in it is not the correct power your PC expects so it disregards it and runs off the battery at lower everything. As when you take the battery out it will not run at all. Easy place for damage is where the power plug goes into the laptop.

Hi,  Just before im losing my mind i turn to you guys for help! A back story about the recent events that got me to the problem:My Lenovo Y510P crashed (couldnt boot to windows) a month ago and  needed an HDD replacment according to the tech lab (he is still under warranty). They replaced the HDD and installed  the Windows 8 (i had 10 before the crash) from the hidden parttition, when i got my laptop back, i updated to Windows 10 but it crashed on boot screen (just like it did before the HDD got replaced).I sent it back to the lab, this time they just restored it to Windows 8.I tried to update it to 10 and it got stuck on boot again. My laptop went back and forth 3 times like this until they just sent me the laptop with Windows 10 on it. They deleted my hidden parttition and my SSD (24GB) with the laptop backup data so now i cant restore or format and i dont have any drivers or configurations on the Windows 10.  So heres the problem- It works a lot slower then it used to! it also take 3 times more to boot!i tried to get all the drivers and searched for BIOS configurations and i found that im missing a progrem called ExpressCache.I downloaded it but i don't think it made a diffrence. Is ExpressCache my solution? Maybe i need to configure it?Here is a screenshot with some details of my ExpressCacheHelp me please! i can send it to the lab again but they will just format it...Thanks!  ?

Hey everyone,

I bought a Lenovo Y510P laptop yesterday and it is extremely slow. It takes quite long to start up, simple tasks such as opening the control panel will freeze it for a about 30seconds. I haven't dared putting any demanding software on it (apart from Chrome and McAfee (paid subscription)).  My 6-year old Toshiba P300-17R is faster, which is completely ridiculous. I have no idea why it is this slow. Could anyone point me in the right direction for fixing this annoying problem?

(p.s. I wasn't sure in which sub category to put this and I thought it might be a Windows 8 problem - sorry if this is the wrong forum!)

Hello,

Any help I can receive is greatly appreciated. I have been trying to get this computer back to normal for the last month.

My Operating System is: Windows 98SE, I run Norton Antivirus, I have CW Shredder, Spybot, and Adware 6.0. I run all this programs all the time.

I also included a log from Hijack below.... Please Help

Here is some of the problems I'm having.
1. When I let the computer sit for a little bit it will lock up and say dangerously Low On Resources and in order for me to get back onto the computer I have to restart it. Or when I'm using the interent all of a sudden my DSL Software Enternet 300 disconnects it self and this can go on consistently sometimes.

2. When I click on start to access the control panel or when I get to the control panel computer does lock up and when I do ctrl alt del it says Explorer Not Responding.

3. I am unable to upgrade to Internet Explorer 6.0.... I have 5.0 right now, everytime I try to fix it.... it states that it is unable to fix... than when I try and re-download Internet Explorer 6.0 it says there is already one running must restart computer to continue... But of course when I restart nothing happens.

Hi,
I have a bunch of stuff going on and I'm not sure where to start or what to do. I'm running 98 SE. I have had problems in the past and have downloaded alot of stuff to try to help. One is hijacked. It went to a temp. file and now I can't find it. My computer freezes up all the time. Now I get a blue screen that say's my system resources are dangerously low. My Internet Explorer cannot be found either. Is there a way someone can look at my computer and tell me what's wrong and what I should do to fix it? Should I take off stuff I've downloaded or what should I do? I do not have 98 software. Only a reboot floppy. I'd like to find out if it's hardware or software and what I should do to make it run normal again.
I hope this is the right forum to use.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

Start by running this on line virus check

Download and run SpyBot. Do an online update before doing a scan, and then allow it to delete anything it finds.

Download, install and run HiJackThis. Copy/paste the log that it creates, back here for review.

The first thing to try is this:

start/search/Files and Folders:
search for file "normal.dot" (without quotes)
when you find the file, delete all instances of it.

try and get into word after this and see what happens.

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 with 2.0 G of RAM and a 32-bit operating system. I use Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2. My Drive C has 39.9 G, but right now, only 1.52 G is free. In contrast, my Drive D uses only 12 G of its 248 G. I do not know why Dell partitioned my PC's Drive C, which has the OS, to have such little space in comparison with Drive D.

I use Norton 360 almost daily to free up space on my Drive C. It used to get me back to 10% or more of free space. Now, I am lucky to get 5%.

I currently use mainly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, IE version 9, Norton 360, Skype, Adobe Reader and Acrobat 9, my Epson PX-435A printer, Buffalo AirStation Nfiniti router, and a modem.

Over the past few years, I have moved various programs from C to D to help in my battle for drive space. They include Office and Adobe. But lots of stuff keeps accumulating on C.

I am sure there is lots of stuff that I could delete from C without impacting how I use my PC. But what can I safely trash?

Seeking info,

I bought an HP Laptop with Windows Vista. Since I got the laptop it is generally really slow. But I've noticed it is TERRIBLY slow when I power up the laptop with the power cord plugged in. Weird right?

As soon as I unplug it from the power supply, it speeds up and finishes booting without an issue. The only thing I can figure is that it speeds up because it stops running some Vista process in order to conserve power....but i don't know what it is. When I plug it back in, you can see the CPU slowly creep up to 100% again...but not always. I can't figure it out and it's driving me insane.

When I run the task manager in administrator mode to see what process is running the highest.... it's not always clear. But I would say the majority is the SVCHOST.EXE process. I have Avast Antivirus scanner, but I know it's not the update file since I can see when it runs.

I've ran a virus scanner several times, and ran several Anti-Spyware programs. I doubt this is the issue since it's been like this since I've had the laptop.

Any ideas?

Another problem that may be related to the above is that my gadgets for the sidebar don't always load in the same position when I reboot. But this may be related to the high CPU usage mentioned above.

Thanks guys/gals!

Hi,

I have a PC running on 64bit Windows 7 which was part of a domain at my work. Now, I got that PC at home, made it a part of a Workgroup instead of a Domain and it is ok.

But, when I plug the Ethernet cable, the PC becomes extremely slow. It's a Core-i5 w/ 4GB RAM.

By any chance this is due to some restrictions from the Domain management system that are still there?

Already run Avast and Malwarebytes scan, the PC is clean.

Thanks for any help.

Hi, I'm not sure if something similar has been posted here before, spent a while searching the net for similar isuues but found nothing...

The other night, I plugged out my PC as it was shutting down. Now it is painfully slow to start up.... It's on the black "Starting Windows" screen for a good three to four minutes, even longer. Before this it all used only take a few seconds.... It is also much slower than before when I get into the OS.

Is there any tool I can download to diagnose this problem? I have disabled some services and startup programs since and made no difference. I restored the PC to a time before I plugged it out, I tried safe mode, and I did a start up repair. Nothing fixed the problem. My last resort is doing a clean install of Windows 7, as I have a hell of a lot of stuff installed on the hard drive and don't fancy wiping it just yet...

Do you think the hard drive is damaged?

My PC spec can be found in my profile.

Any help greatly appreciated... Thanks!

Hi, so whenever I take my Yoga 300 off charge the machine virtually grinds to a halt. It takes ages to respond, causes plug-ins to crash on Firefox, web pages to load slowly, programs like VLC to not display video properly. It's not the speediest machine to begin with, but it goes from being ok to unusable. It was fine for a long time, but it suddenly started doing this about 3 months ago.  I've checked the power saving settings and everything is switched off, with the exception of the screen powering down sooner. Going into task manager and nothing seems to be running abnormally high, either before or after taking it off charge. It's getting quite frustrating, because it has a decent charge, I just cant use it anywhere without having to leave it plugged in, which defies the point of having a laptop/tablet. I saw another post about a similar issue here from last month, but the Lenovo community person misunderstood the question. This isn't an issue of whether I should leave the battery in or not, but an issue with my laptop performing very underwhelmingly when not on charge. Has anyone encountered similar issues? Does anyone know of a fix? Thanks!

A:Yoga 300 ridiculously slow when not plugged in

I have a Yoga 460 and encounterd a strange problem which may be related. Yesterday I was using my laptop unplugged and the battery ran down to critical level for the first time. I was watching a movie. It was about 7% I think and I heard a new sound which I haven't heard before  (three or so beeps). This was some sort of critical battery alarm I would imagine. Anyway I plugged the laptop in to power and it started charging. The strange thing was though that everything started working slower than I would expect. For example, moving windows, selecting which window had focus, even the mouse cursor seemed to be slower! I rebooted and things returned back to normal.  I hope this helps. :-)

Problem is if I plug my BB modem (Voyager 105) into my machine, the computer takes 2-3 minutes to boot up from cold. If I boot up without the BB modem in, the machine takes just 20-30 secs.

Whats slowing the machine down when the modem is attached ? Any ideas ?
The machine is fully virus, spyware and adware free.

Cheers,

A:Slow boot up with modem plugged in

With a BT Voyager 105 MODEM, I'm guessing you're in the UK and on AOL. The MODEM should be left plugged in all the time and it's probably going into training as soon as the USB powers it up. Try leaving it plugged in but take out the ticks from dslagent and gsicon boxes in the Startup tab by going Start>Run and typing in msconfig. That will force a restart and when the system boots up, tick the "don't show me this message again" box and hit OK. If you don't get a better suggestion here, try the Technicalk Hints and Tips message boards on AOL UK.

I'm having a problem with my router and a slow connection on this computer.
with the router connected I'm getting 2-5mbps, plugged in directly to the modem i'm getting 14-16mbps the upload is fine at 640kbps

The other computers (wired ) connected to the router get the max speed for download roughly 14-15mbps. Wireless 10-15mbps

Router is Dlink WBR-2310 firmware 1.05
Running WIndows Vista Business, Laptop: Vista Home Premium

troubleshooted with dlink 3 times.. did not resolve they keep telling me to call back
any ideas on how to fix this?
Update: Tried with a Linksys wired router BEFSR41, same outcome. Other wired computer getting 14-15mbps, mine... 2-5mbps.
Other comp is using Win XP SP2. Something is slowing my connection down... Didn't have this problem with DSL... running cable now
looking through router settings.. i found this

WAN
100Mbps FULL Duplex
LAN1
100Mbps Half Duplex
LAN2
100Mbps FULL Duplex

LAN1 is my computer.. would the Half Duplex cause anything?

A:Slow connection while plugged into router

I would blame Vista, network drivers or firewall software in that order.

SImple test - download a Linux live CD (Ubuntu or Knoppix for example) and see what your connection is with a proper OS. If it's still slow, then you have hardware problems - try replacing the cable and plugging it to a different port on the router first, then try with another NIC.

My brand new laptop downloads slow when I unplug it and run on battery power, and then it stays slow even if I plug it back in.

When I plug in and reboot my brand new laptop, and run speedtest.net, I consistently get numbers in the 17 Mbps range. When I unplug it and run on battery power, I consistently get numbers in the 0.6 Mbps range. The upload speed doesn't change whether on battery or plugged in.

Even stranger, when I plug the laptop back in, then run speedtest, I continue to get download numbers in the 0.6 Mbps range. If I put the system to sleep or hibernate, wake it, and run speedtest, the speed remains in the 0.6 Mbps range.

This was a recently purchased floor model Lenovo E545 running Win7 Pro (x64).

I looked in the Control Panel - Power Settings and notice that there are two plans: Energy Saver and Power Saver (what's the difference between saving energy and saving power?).

In the Power Options Advanced Settings, there is a setting for Wireless Adapter Settings. I changed it to Maximum Performance when on battery. But still I'm getting 0.6 Mbps download.

Why is my download speed so slow after I unplug the system? How do I fix it?

A:Laptop downloads slow when not plugged in

You might have to dig down in the settings but there is usually one that says High Performance. If so, set it as default power plan and reboot.

I just bought this laptop about a month and a half ago, and a few weeks ago I noticed the Wifi is slow when my laptop is not plugged in. I looked up the issue and changed my power saver settings so that the wifi would have high performance even when not plugged in to the power source. This seemed to work for a couple days, but now it runs slow again when not plugged in. I went back into the settings to make sure they didn't revert to default, but everything is as I changed it and the problem persists. My internet is SUPER slow when my laptop is not plugged in and works perfectly fine when it is plugged in. I have been unable to find anyone with a similar issue and there are no other settings that pertain to my internet use that I can change to affect any outcome. Is anyone else having similar issues? Is there a fix for this? I don't like the idea of having to keep my laptop plugged in all the time for internet use. That kind of defeats the purpose of having  a portable computer.

Hi dear friends,

Am running Windows 7 32bit since Nov. and everything was working fine until last week. my old Alcatel ADSL modem stopped working so my ISP gave me a new one, since then every boot takes like 5 min.
When I boot the system with the network cable UNPLUGGED, it boots up as usual, but when I have the cable plugged in, it gets stuck on the "Please wait..." screen for about 2.5-3 minutes before the windows login pops up, and then after choosing the user name it took another few min. till the desktop with all the tasks is loaded.

1. Tried to replace the modem with other brand (now am using ADSL D-Link 2500U), same behavior.
2. Scanned for viruses with NOD32 and malwarebyte' everything is clean.
3. Defrag the HD.
3. msconfig, is fine. none useless tasks.
4. Updated my MBO drivers including the Network adapter, useless..

* I didn't installed any new software before that may cause the problem.
* Bios is set for HD first boot.

** take a look at the attachment, maybe playing with the marked line is the answer!?

thnx in advance!

I had originally posted my topic in the "Am I infected? The solution to this old question is :First, find the control panel, then in the search bar type 'Power' and there should be Power Options and underneath that there should be 'Edit Power Plan'. Click on that and underneath the main part there should be a link saying 'Change Advanced Power Settings'. Click on that and then a large list will appear and look for 'Wireless Adapter Settings' and click on it and then click on Power Saving Mode and there should be two options. One will say On Battery and change that setting to Maximum Performance. This solved my problem on my Toshiba laptop running Windows 8. Hope this is helpful

All the sudden my laptop takes like 10 minutes to boot up, but only if the cat5 is plugged in(havent tried it with wifi on when booting), it gets to loading desktop, and then sits at a black screen for close to 10 minutes, but there is a mouse pointer that I can move, but can do nothing else, such as bring up task manager. Safe mode boots right up without any problems, Malwarebytes shows no virus/trojans. Nothing strange or new in msconfig's startup listings, havent installed any new software. Any suggestions as to other places to look/check for a problem?

edit: all network information is set to static on the laptop, and no conflicting ip address

My Envy 13 laptop frequently gets incredibly sluggish when the power cable is plugged in. This appears to be because the CPU speed is being throttled. If I view the Performance tab of Windows Task Manager, the CPU speed drops to 0.38GHz within seconds of plugging the cable in. If I remove the cable, the speed jumps back up to around 2.7GHz and the laptop performs as expected.  I've ruled out Windows power settings as being the cause. In advanced power settings, processor power management is set to allow 100% for the 'maximum processor state'. Adjusting these settings and switching between different power plans (e.g. HP Recommended, High Performance, Power Saver) has no positive affect. The problem occurs regardless of whether I'm using the laptop for anything intensive - I don't believe the laptop should be throttling the CPU to prevent overheating.  I see this problem even if my only open application is Google Chrome with memory use of approx 35% and CPU <10%. Watching videos or using any more powerful software is impossible without lagging or hanging. Restarting the laptop doesn't fix the problem and this seems to have been a problem from new. I've downloaded all updates available through the HP Support Assistant program (including one for BIOS), but still see the issue. I suspect it may be BIOS related, but if so I'd expect all owners of this laptop to have the problem. Is this something others are seeing? I would b... Read more

I have been using a Dell N5110 laptop with a wireless router from my internet provider for years without issues.

I recently had the internet connected at my cottage. I am using a TP-Link router model TL-WR740N.
All of my wireless devices function perfectly except my laptop.

When my power supply is disconnected, my internet slows down significantly. Never had this issue with my other router.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

A:Wireless connection slow when power supply not plugged in

Hello and good day,
This is a truly strange scenario, I am sorry to hear that you are having this issue. You could try to dig into the power options for your laptop and see how it affects your wireless adapter when running on battery. Still, since this has never been an isue with your home setup, we have to point our fingers to the router itself, regardless of how well your other devices work with it - all the devices should work well with it.
Sorry that is all that I have for you.
Best regards

Hello, I noticed this weird issue, when I plug my laptop in to charge it, it becomes slows and laggy + noticed that this only happens while it's connected to the internet through WI-FI and not Ethernet.
Tried playing with control panel with no success :(
Note: It's not the battery as i removed and the laptop still lags + I use the official charger, the one that came in the box with VAIO

Hi if anyone can help i would be so greatful!!

I have a laptop which slows down as soon as i plug it into the mains. When running on batteries it is as fast as it should be and is perfect. I could comprehend the problem if it was the otherway around but this is too wierd.

I have rebooted the wholes system, it is clean as a whistle, over 30G of space, Virus checker / Firewall / ADaware remover / Registry cleaner / Defraged / Disk Cleanup - everything is in working order to keep this machine clean and healthy and it is.

The problem is most apparent when watching movies or clips, as the image goes out of sinc with the sound, freezes or goes super-slow, yet as soon as i remove the plug, and it's running on batteries it's fine again.

I know someone out there must have a solution.

thanks

A:Laptop runs slow when plugged in, but fine on battery power

Do you have access to another power cord to try. It kind of sounds like that there is a problem with the one that you have. I suppose that the problem could be internal to the laptop itself, but the swapping with a known good cord would tell you where the problem is. Of course, if you always use the same wall outlet, the problem could be there.

Went to use Word2000 today (Thursday, US time), and it won't load/run from a file name, the desktop icon, or from Start > Programs > Word, BUT Notepad & Wordpad work fine. Word2000 was working fine Wednesday nite, the last time I used it.
Twice, when trying to get it to run, I got a dangerously low resources warning--which is odd, since only thing I changed was my ISP phone number, and that shouldn't have anything to to do with it--but with W98SE, ya never know
I ran AVG, and spybot -- both report no problems.
Been having trouble with Word2000 not saving names correctly in the drop-down menu thing which lists last 9 files opened for several months -- wonder if this would have anything to do with it?
I alsp checked Startup programs in msconfig, and the list in Add/Remove programs, and nothing different in either.
:
I'm worried about losing a couple of Meg's o .doc files -- primarily Genealogy -- I have on the HD because of this. Any help will be appreciated.

A:Word2000 Won't Run "Dangerously Low Resources"

I might have accidentally fixed the above problem .... at least Word2000 seems to be running now.
:
More out of desperation than any hope it would help at all, I renamed Normal.dot then restarted the computer. When I click on the desktop icons for the .doc files, or the desktop icon for Word2000, things seem back to normal, but will keep a watch on things for a while though.....
:
One interesting item I noted was the OLD Normal.dot was 299K., BUT the new one is 26K.

I am not sure if the battery is the problem, but it seems to be. When plugged in, the battery will not charge UNLESS the computer is shut down. Then it seems to charge. When turned back on, it might charge for a minute or two but then it's back to the message "plugged in, not charging." The battery life stays consistant when plugged in, it just won't charge any higher. At the moment it is stuck at 87% after dying on me this morning. I was working perfectly last night.  I have taken the battery out and turned the computer on with only the AC plugged in and it does work. My theory is it's the battery but I'm not sure.  The last thing I did was run a battery test and an AC adapter test through the UEFI menu. Both passed. Can someone please help? I am so lost on what I should do now!

So, my y510p is having really anoying problem.  Sometimes computer works fine (really rarely) but usually it just doesnt start. I need to press powerbutton atleast 50 times until it finally start, and when it starts the screen is just blinking black and keys are blinking too, the problem becoming more general when it gets "cold" (Cold = normal indoor temperature 22 celsius) it also takes ages to get windows screen I have already visited warranty with my laptop and it was there 1.5 months, and they changed keyboard (why?!?!) and send it back, they said that they run some tests without any problems. Then i got my computer back, NOTHING CHANGED, same problems and all, what should i do?!  I have already soft-reseted, reseted bios and reseted whole system, nothing works!  Could you please be in touch with the store i bought it from, because I want my money back for not-working laptop worth 1200e in my country. They said that i need to send my computer back to warranty, for another 1.5 month journey (what is over what they promised, they said 10-15 workdays)  PLEASE HELP ME! anything but not another warranty trip! I also have very good video of the problem if you want me to send it to you.  My model is the one with 750M and 24gb ssd cache.

A:Overclocking GPU and CPU in y510p

If you use the Intel Xtreme Tuning utility you can adjust the multipliers but that is all. The CPU already runs way to hot (and throttles as a result) so overclocking it will only make it worse. I did the opposite and undervolted mine so not only does it run cooler but it doesn't throttle anymore so it actually runs faster then a stock one.

I installed Windows 10 last year and had to uninstall it due to wi-fi connectivity dropping.   Searching the internet, this seemed to be a frequent problem and Lenova did not support Windows 10 for the Y510P and did not provide drivers. I really liked windows 10 and would love to go back to it.    Is anyone running it, and how did you resolve the wi-fi connectivity issue?    I see on the Lenova Website they still don't list Windows 10 for this model.    Too bad.  Makes me really dislike Lenova products when they don't support OS upgrades.

Hello there, I have had my IdeaPad Y510p Laptop - 59369999 for 2 years without any problems, until today.  I started watching a video & everything froze for a good 5 minutes.  I held the power button until my laptop shut down, when I turned it on it said "scanning and repairing drive c". It started up normally, I gave it time, moved the mouse once everything had loaded & it froze again. Then the screen went blank with the cursor working, then the cursor dissappeared. Does anyone know of this is a simple fix? Thank you!

My guess is that the hard drive is dying.  If it will start, try getting a copy of CrystalDiskInfo (free),  Otherwise, see if you can hook up the drive to another machine to test it and to get as much as you can off of it.

Hey, I know there are already a few topics with the same subject, however none have the exact same situation as mine as most are US based. I too have a powerful Lenovo Y510P SLI with a Intel Centrino N2230 wifi card. I am buying a new router for my student room and since I want to buy things that can last for a few years, opted for a wifi AC router (probably an Asus one). But, this laptop won't support it... I looked in the technical maintaince manual to find which wifi cards are supported for the Y510P, there is one Wifi AC card for the Y410P, but according to various posts will also work in the Y510P as they share the same BIOS whitelist. I don't want to flash the BIOS with a custom modded one which removes the whitelist. (I flashed a desktop Asus motherboard to run OSX, went great, runs well, but I can't experiment with this laptop, need it for university.). So I Googled and Ebayed the partnumer and this one came up: Ebay Link, which says "Only for Lenovo/IBM laptops such as Y510P" should be fine right? Only thing is it is 40 USD, Dutch customs will charge 21% on top of it so that makes 48 USD, and the Dutch postal office will charge anywhere between 15-20 USD for paperwork for importing goods. So that makes an total of 68 USD... so that almost doubles the cost of the upgrade...  I used the FRU number for this card: WLAN, WiFi AC+BT4.0, Ltn BCM4352+20702 2x2AC+BT4.0 HMC which is 20200381, and put in the search engine in the "part number" ... I have a Lenovo Y510p. My warranty expired over a year ago, but my screen recently broke. I've tried to repair it myself, but it still won't display properly. Every time I call Lenovo I get a message to "schedule a callback," and every time I go to schedule a callback the web site tells me I'm out of warranty and won't allow me to schedule a callback. Is there a way I can schedule a repair through Lenovo?

Okay here are the details:Windows 10 HomeIdeapad Y510P, only a few years oldworks perfectly finebattery at 0%, plugged-in not chargingoriginal battery and power cordsI can't remember how to get this message to pop up again, but I remember it saying something along the lines of 'Lenovo does not support batteries they didn't make so we are going to pretend you don't have one in'. I have the same battery and charger that came with the computer. I've tried messing with the settings and taking the battery out and putting it back in. I've been to the BIOs screen and looked around. I've searched through forms and everything. I'm about to just buy a new battery for it and see if that fixes it. But I'd like to know what happened so I can prevent it from happening again. Did the battery just get too old and decide to die on me? It's been very frustrating.

Hi all,

Last night, my keyboard suddenly decided it didn't want to work. The following keys rarely work (occasionally after hitting them a gazillion times): 0 (wow it worked just now), p (using on screen keyboard, now 0 is not working so I need onscreen to close these parentheses), colon/semicolon key, and slash/question mark key.

I really hoe this is not a hardware issue as this comuter isnt even 2 years old yet, and having a functioning keyboard is kind of essential. Esecially when some of the affected keys are in your assword... Not sure if the 4 affected keys are connected hysically and thats why theyre acting u together, or if this could have something to do with the fact that the issues arose immediately after some Windows udates.

I would immensely areciate any hel ! Thank you!

A:y510p - keyboard problem

Hi Imjustaguy ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Better to isolate hardware issue from software is to make the computer boot on a rescue media and try typing from it . Using an external USB keyboard and onscreen keyboard further isolate probability of a bad keyboard specially if same thing fails in BIOS (like test typing the affected letter in security password  but NOT to save it , for testing only) .

Update us how it goes.

After that i just did factory reset and installed updates for upgrading to w8.1 from factory w8. it worked  for a day or two. (windows 8.1) Now today when i got home i started up the laptop and same problem as with w10. So i found out from internet that it could mean my ram is failing? Is that it or what?

Power cycling is the best way I can describe it. Approximately once a day, my y510p will power cycle all of its USB ports simultaneously, this is the two USB 3.0 ports as well as the USB 2.0 port (which makes things even stranger considering they are on separate controllers). I will lose connection to all devices (for me an external hard drive, USB 3.0 dock, and USB 2.0 mouse) and they will all come up again a moment later as just being plugged in. It is not the same time of day each day. My drivers are up to date. This occurred under Windows 8.1 64-bit and Windows 10 64-bit. There is also no correlation to whether there is a lot of data moving through the ports or if they are just idle.

Hi,I may be repeating the topic, but recently i had to revert back to Win 8.1, as the Track pad and later on keyboard also stopped working. Further I started to get random BSOD's always  giving new driver errors. So finally switched back to Win 8.1.Does anyone has a workaround for this so that I can upgrade to Win 10, as I think 31 July is the last date  for upgrading to Win 10 from Win 8.1, or stick with Win 8..1.Appreciate any help regarding this.

Found a possible fix (workaraound) of the famous screen flicker problem. I've tried all of the proposed fixes found anywhere on the web and nothing worked for more than 5 minutes. I also sent it to be serviced, came back even worse. The screen would go crazy when showing high contrast images with a lot of black. The flicker was most prominent when testing the pixel-walk(inversion) on this website:http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/inversion.phpIf you have the same problem, try applying pressure on the LCD frame in one of the corners. In my case the flicker went away. I put a piece of fabric between the plastic and the metal LCD frame and after some fiddling I managed to find a sweet spot with no flicker. My laptop is y510p with 755M SLI and FullHD screen.Try at your own risk!Cheers

A:y510p screen flicker FIX!

Ok, I have an update. The flickering can be fixed with a bit of DIY. There's a band cable attaching the display circuit to the metal frame holding the LCD. This band is glued with some sort of conductive glue that goes bad over time, messing up the electronics somehow, I guess preventing the capacitors from discharging properly, dunno.Try and make your own conductive band, I made mine using aluminum tape, it works very well. No flicker noticeable for over a week.Once again, try at your own risk.

So I have a Lenovo Y510P IdeaPad, I upgraded it to Windows 10 last December and wanted to downgrade it back to Windows 8/8.1 due to some issues that many said are due to the fact that the model doesn't really support Windows 10 thus I experience the problems. However, since it has been more than a month from the upgrade, I can't just roll it back to previous OS and am wondering if there is any way I can find out what my original product key for the pre-activated Windows 8 so I can perform a clean reinstall with it.

A:Y510P - Downgrading to Windows 8/8.1

If windows came pre-installed on your laptop, the key might be on its certificate of authenticity. Alternatively, you can obtain the key using third party softwares like ProduKey. It'll display the currently activated key on your system.

I bought one of the first Lenovo IdeaPad y510p. Having a dual gpu made for a lot of gaming fun. Yesterday, the room filled up with the smell of an electrical burn. I checked the underside the Lenovo. It had been hotter. I heard workers outside my window and figured that the smell may come from them. A few minutes later very thick smoke came out of the left air vent and made a column in the air. I quickly pulled out the power cord and battery. Luckily, the house is still standing. I understand that electronics eventually fail. Yet, this seems unsafe and dangerous. What if I weren't in the room to act quickly? There should be some way to report this. The support page to send a message has been down with an under maintenance message for days.

Hi Guys, I have Lenovo Y510P with Windows 10 and i recently installed a new MyDigitalSSD 256GB in the M.2 slot (instead of the 24GB cache ssd) and i'm using the ssd as my main drive for OS and programs. I'm getting reandom freezes during regular operation, I can still move my mouse duriing those freezes but that's it, it won't unfreeze unless I do an hard reset.. Those freezes happen only when the OS is running from the SSD, when I'm I run a copy of that OS from the HDD, it doesn' happen ad everything works. Before installing the ssd, every cache software was uninstalled and i even tried a fresh new clean win10 install on the ssd but the freezes still happens. I read and tried LOTS of solutions (checking for errors in the ssd, disabling SLI, disabling LPM, etc.) but nothing helps. I'm really desperate for a solution, Doesn any one has an idea on what is the problem?

what i understood is that slot you got there isnt meant for a big SSD :/ so thats probably why os freezes some times it's a cache slot meant for small sized ssd cache drives if understood it right.

Some day I was using my laptop and then left it on for a while because I have to do something else (I left it for about two hours). When I came back the laptop was dead (at least I thought that because it was not charging the battery nor starting up with the charger plugged in). A couple of days after that I tested the laptop again, plugged in the charger and it was charging again the battery. I could start the system fine. After a reboot the system was not charging again, but the battery had some charge so I could start the laptop again. In summary, there's not problem with the battery (there is power going from the battery to the motherboard), there is no power going from the charger to the battery (sometimes it does, sometimes don't, but the most times don't). With the battery unplugged and the charger plugged in there is no power going to the motherboard. battery and no charger -> ok, power to the motherboardbattery + charger -> sometimes works, but almost neverno battery, only charger -> does not work Power jack tested and it's ok. Charger tested and it's ok. Also trackpad stopped working, windows does not recognize it. Thanks for your help and sorry for the long post.

I received a few minor electrical burns while typing today.  It turns out that the shield of my cell phone charger USB cable was making intermittent contact with my forearm and shocking me.  Not enough  to do actual harm, but it certainly doesn't feel good. After a bit of experimentation I found the following:1) Touching the USB cable results in a shock only if my wrist is in the typing position on my y510p.2) Either the laptop's power cable or its external monitor HDMI cable have to be plugged in to receive the shock.  Disconnecting both renders the device safe.3) This happens with 3 different cell phone chargers that I tested with.4) I don't need to be touching any keyboard keys.  I do need to have my wrist firmly against the laptop. Additionally, my external monitor has been flaky for a few months - it will flash off for a few seconds several times a day. What should I do next?

I purchased my Y510P back in Q2 2014, it was already on Win 8 when I purchased it. Everything was working fine even after the  SLI issue with  Win 8.1 which was fixed through a BIOS update that was available here in their product support page. During that time I worked more on other things and didnt really notice anything about the GPU and its update. I was able to update my laptop to Win 10 (back in Q4 2015) and I'm currently unsure if it already installed the anniversary update. Recently, I tried some few games and noticed that the second GPU seems not be working during any games I've launched. I ran Unigine Heaven Benchmark and seems that the SLI is detected, checked the device manager both hardwares are detected, and updated to the latest GPU driver. But still seems to be not working. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, I wanna turn on the laptop and have the Num Lock key activated. Right now I've edited the registry value from "HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard/InitialKeyboardIndicators". I changed the value "2147483648" by number "2". The issue is still there, cause not ALWAYS I turn on the laptop, the Num Lock is activated, just sometimes, which is also weird too. So... what do I have to do to set Num Lock to activated by default when turning on? Thanks!

I have the y510p with the GT 750M SLI. My charger died on me, and I tried to order one via Amazon provided by a forum thread here a while ago, to only receive an adapter with a 45N0112 modeL number when my adapter is 45N0111.  Tried to to purchase it off Lenovo the other day to which I get an email that the product is "end of life" and now they've taken down the listing. So do tell me Lenovo... How am I to use my laptop without the 170w charger that you provide? No universal charger has that wattage. How the heck could you just shelf something like a charger after its only been about 3 years? I mean I thought your company was fantastic but what the heck man. Do enlighten me as to a guaranteed place to get a 45N0111 charger!!! I haven't been able to use my laptop for a week! Why? BECAUSE I CANT BUY A CHARGER. THANKS.

Hopefully this'll help some people thinking of upgrading . NOTE: Some people are having issues with wireless cards after upgrading. I'm not sure of solution yet, but I would recommend predownloading the Windows 10 drivers from Intel's website before the upgrade. - So far drivers have not solved issue. Not sure of solution yet. Everything went smoothly for me. All fiels, programs, drivers, and settings transferred from my Windows 7 install to Windows 10 (and also from 8.1 to 10 on my Dell, so I assum it'll work on a Lenovo too). Upgrade process was painless and took about 20 minutes. Only temporary issue was video drivers, but that got solved later. Make sure you check for updates in Windows Update right after you upgrade; there's a day one patch they put out and it fixes quite alot of bugs (1GB of them actually). This fixed any driver issues I had and made my screen resolution normal, as it was previously running 800x600 or something, so don't freak out if your screen look weird at first. It automatically changes your default programs though, so if you use Chrome or Firefox you'll need to change it back to that from the new Edge browser. Otherwise, most settings were imported. So far I have found nothing that is incompatible with Windows 10 on my computer; however, beware that you will need to reinstall your anti-virus when Windows prompts you, as it is uninstalled prior to the upgrade. Doesn't cause any issues though and your computer is not at risk ... Read more

Dear Lenovo family! I have bought this laptop (Y510P) around the end of December 2013. I have just decided to write these after long time of having issues with gaming. Also tooday I have just changed my Hard drive to SSD with booting windows 10 64bit from scrach hoping that it would all come to an end however it did not. -I have updated all the software, drivers etc. I have uploaded a RAR folder including my Nvidea system information, speccy system screen shot and all the logs from event viewer.  Now here is the problem I am having. When I start playin a game (For instance CS:GO) at first it is all good:-As soon as I run the game SLI gets activated.-Fans starts getting faster and both graphic cards getting warmer.-After 10-15 minues of gameplay, game freezes, screen gets minimized for 3-4 seconds and eveything freezess then games screen comes back and another 1-2 seconds game freezes then starts back on.- Problem repeates after another 10-15 minutes of game play. What  could be the problem?Could it be CPU speed is not properly working?Could it be because of the Graphic cards? I will be waiting for your help! Thank you all!

I just have mine for about 3 years, and I have this love/hate feeling. Love because I use for work and for gaming, and this fits me reasonably. Hate, because has no HD light, I have this left speaker known problem and the USB are in front, messing with typing and having mouse cables or other cables in the middle of the wrist. Love about 2 SLI GPUs, HATE about the low performance battery, even on ECO mode. Love to the possibility to install 32Gb memory, HATE because the screen is not high end as the rest of the hardware profile. Good, I vented enough. thanks.
