T520 Hard boot fine. Soft boot/Reboot doesn't recognize the hard drive.As the title indicates.  If I power up(hard boot) my T520 laptop, it boots to the SSD just fine.   Any time I restart the laptop, it doesn't recognize the SSD and can't find it.  If I then turn it off and hard boot again, I have no problem going straight into Windows.   Has anyone else seen this issue?Current Specs:T520 Laptop (ThinkPad) 424049U(R9KN2N6)Operating SystemWindows 10 Pro 64-bitCPUIntel Core i5 2520M @ 2.50GHz 40 °CSandy Bridge 32nm TechnologyRAM8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 664MHz (9-9-9-24)MotherboardLENOVO 424049U (CPU) 42 °CGraphicsThinkPad Display 1600x900 ([email protected])Intel HD Graphics 3000 (Lenovo)1023MB NVIDIA NVS 4200M (Lenovo) 40 °CForceWare version: 354.45SLI DisabledStorage74GB INTEL SSDSA2MH080G1GC (SSD)Optical DrivesHL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT50NUEFI BIOS Version: 8AET64WW (1.44)Embedded Controller Version: 8AHT42WW (1.36)Original Specs:i5-2520M(2.50GHz),4GB RAM,500GB 7200rpm HD,15.6in 1600x900 LCD,1GB NVIDIA N12P-NS1,CDRW/DVDRW,Intel 802.11agn wireless,Bluetooth,Modem,1Gb Ethernet,UltraNav,Secure Chip,Fingerprint reader,Camera,9c Li-Ion,Win7 Pro 64

As a newbie to this site, I am not sure exactly where to post this question, so I’m guessing it is a hardware issue.

I recently acquired an IBM ThinkPad T20/T21. This unit contains what IBM calls an Ultrabay 2000 port on the side of the unit. This is the source of my question/problem. The Ultrabay port and software allows the hot swapping of the interchangeable FDD and a CD-ROM modules. Under the installed Win 95 OS, the Ultrabay worked fine.

In order to gain use of the USB port on the unit, I just completed an upgrade from Win 95 to Win 98 SE. I upgraded using an OEM disk and in the end wound up with both a Windows directory (for the Win 95 OS) and a Windows.000 (for the Win 98 OS) on the HDD. After a little re-mapping, I’ve gotten the audio, video, modem and mouse/trackpoint to work fine. My problem is the Ultrabay. Even with the latest IBM drivers, the Ultrabay port/computer will not recognize the CD-ROM. If I boot up with the FDD installed, both Windows Explorer and the Ultrabay S/W recognize the module and everything works fine. If I then hot swap to the CD-ROM, the Ultrabay SW sees the drive but indicates it is inoperable by placing a large red ”X” through its icon in the system tray. Windows Explorer does not see the CD-ROM at all and still reports an FDD. If I boot up with the CD-ROM in the port, Windows Explorer sees the CD-ROM and allows full use of it, the Ultrabay SW however continues to show the red “X”. If I try to hot swap back to the FDD the system loc... Read more

Picked up a T-61 for a song and love the beast, but I'm having a problem with the hard drive Ultrabay that came with the Laptop. The drive isn't being recognized.  I've tried several SATA drives of sizes between 50 gig to 1 Terabyte, and all fail to recognize in the OS. (I've tried Win 7 and 10) The drive shows up in the Bios, regardless of which of the actual physical drives I've installed, and passes the Bios diagnostic, and the Drive shows up in the Device manager, but the OS can't see it. Deeply confused, hoping for a silver bullet. The DVD Drive Ultrabay works just fine, but no HDD in the other bay can be found by the OS, any suggestions?

Just as the title states. When the y400/500 were first announced and then released, I was so excited. Using the concept of removeable slots,, as found in business machines, to augment a gaming machine seemed like a brilliant idea. And it was, they sold like hotcakes. The y410/510p made some incremental improvements, like activating the iGPU with Optimus and increasing the resolution on the 14" model. As expected, they were popular as well. Then came the y40/50 and now the y700 series. Lenovo completely designed their gaming lineup, removing the ultrabay and cutting fuctionality. Why? I can have 2 full sized HDD/SSDs and a 42mm M.2 installed in my 14" y410p, but the 15" y50/700 only has 1 full sized bay. Just what. Then instead of 850/860M SLI we get a single 860M in the y50, which was updated to a 960M in the y700. Yes the 860M is a decent card, and beats the 755M handily, but it's practically on par with 755M SLI. I just find it strange that such a great concept on such popular machines was cut. I'm sure there were issues, but removing the ultrabay just makes Lenovo's newer laptops just another crop of mid ranged machines. They lost a lot of what made them special, and what I feel made the brand take off after the y580 generation.

Hi!

I didn't know where to post this specifically. Hence I chose the General Support section.

I have a ThinkPad T530. The main disk is an SSD (on which Windows 8 is installed and is the primary boot device). In the ultrabay slot, I have a 500GB hard disk. There used to be an optical drive here. I replaced it with the stock hard disk since I needed storage more than optical drive.

Anyway, on startup (as well as resume from standby and hibernate), I don't need the disk to be recognized. I want it to be done manually. Is there a way to stop windows from recognizing the device every time it boots? Presently, I am doing a "Safely remove device" after every start up, which is kind of annoying.

Hope you got what I am trying to say.

Thanks,

Hello, I'm new to Lenovo and I'm about to buy one of the Y510P (59373392) with single graphics and the 1TB version. The last question I've got is whether it is possible to install an additional SSD via the DVD slot-in. I don't need the DVD drive, so it would be wonderful to install a 128GB or 256GB SSD. I've read some topics and saw that the motherboard doesn't have a mSATA connection but it must have a NGFF connection if I'm right. Since I'm not very experienced with laptops, here are a few more questions 1) If it is possible to install an additional SSD, what products are available?2) Where do I get the UltraBay adapter?3) Would it then be possible to make the SSD the bootable drive? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

You can use a caddy for this.

But the SSD you can use here is a 2.5 SSD not the msata one.
  this kind :

ODD can be set as primary boot and should be able to boot windows from it.
BIOS has to be set to legacy.

Hope this helps,

I recently bought an ultrabay adapter off ebay that was compatible with the T400/T400S.  The Lenovo part would be ThinkPad Serial Hard Drive Bay Adapter III, P/N 43N3412.  I took out the original 250GB HDD and put an Intel X25-V in the main HD bay.  Then I put the original drive in the Ultrabay Adapter.  When I power up the machine the Ultrabay drive spins up for a second and the light on the adapter comes on and then the drive turns off.  The Ultrabay drive is not found by the BIOS, I have 1.20-1.07 installed.  I called Lenovo tech support and was told that there is no Ultrabay adapter for the T410, and the website confirms this when I search for storage adapter accessories for it.  Is there some way to get a second HDD to work in the Ultrabay? [EDIT]The solution. Thanks to Dd16. To enable the DVD automatic power off feature, open the Advanced view in Power Manager, go to the Power Plan tab and expand the System Settings dropdown. Now set Automatic Optical Drive Power Off to Enabled on AC and battery. (You'll be able to see and set this setting Automatic Optical Drive Power Off only if your DVD drive is inside of your ultrabay.) After being idle for 5 or 10 minutes your DVD drive will be powered off. Then this new icon (Other E: Powered Off) will appear in My Computer.    Make a shortcut of that icon on your desktop because after you remove your DVD drive this icon will disapp... Read more

Got way too many ThinkPads around here and decided to retire my T61.  It had a 128gb Intel SSD I cloned it and installed a small hard drive so it can be reused/recycled.  I cloned my T400's HDD to the SSD.  Good for day to day use and I have gobs of cloud storage.  After 4 years or so the $00 gb HDD only took about half the 128 SSD.  My Ultrabay frame is supposed to be here tomorrow and I intend to install the 500 gb drive in it.  I'd like to use it for my primary storage.  I'm clueless as to the best way to do this.  I've never considered doing this before but realized that I hardly ever used the CD/DVD drive and unlike the MacBook, I can still swap them with out a set of tools and an hour or so to do it.

Hello everyone. I have recently got a new ThinkPad L540. Since I need to use Windows 7 (TrueCrypted company Installation on normal SSD) and Ubuntu I bought a HDD Caddy for the UltraBay together with a 1TB HDD. My problem is, that I can not select the second HDD (HDD1) in the BIOS to boot from. It does not show the name of the drive, just HDD1. HDD0 has a name that indicates that it is the Intel SSD. The new drive is visible and usable in Windows and when I use a USB-Drive to install Linux on that second Drive.Furthermore I switched the SSD and the HDD and the L540 boots sraight up into Ubuntu. When I switch back its boots Windows 7 again. During the Ubuntu installation I tried both, writing the GRUB2 bootloader to the root-partition or to the beginning of the HDD (schould be the same since the root-partition is the first on the drive). Gparted is also thelling me that the root-partition is bootable. I hope somebody has an idea!Thank you very much for your help in advance!!!

I have a thinkpad t430s and I bought a new supposedly oem lenovo 43 ultrabay battery. When I insert the battery it is recognized that a battery was plugged in but it stays at 0%. I've tried all different combinations of reinserting it before and after reboots turning on and off the ultrabay in the bios. The CD / DVD ultrabay drive works fine, although since the connectors inside are totaly different I doubt that is relevant info. What is the best way for me to figure out if the problem is this battery or the laptop? Or could it be a software issue... any help would be hugely appreciated. One of the main reasons I acquired this laptop was the use of the ultrabay batteries. Thanks

Hi everyone, If you don't want to read everything, just scroll down to the underlined part  For 3 years now, my Y500 (gt650m sli, second gpu in Ultrabay) had been working fine. But now, there is a problem. My primary gpu, i.e. the one attached to the motherboard, not the one connected via Ultrabay, appears to be broken. The Problem:Occasionally, the primary gpu has malfunctions. Therefore, I have to use the device manager to switch it off. Otherwise, my laptop tends to reboot out of an instant after running for some time. There are times when I can use the gpu for several hours without any problems, but there also are times when I cannot use it at all. When I switch it off in the dev.man., move my notebook, and switch it on again, there is a probability that the gpu might work. Hence, I assume a hardware issue. The Story:The problem first appeared after a really nasty circumstance; I took my notebook with me in its bag (a rather fluffy bag to prevent the notebook from blows) and suddenly, I realised that the bag became hot. The reason was a Windows update started out of standby... The notebook crashed with 34% of the updates installed. Afterwards, I had to reinstall Windows or nothing would work. (The crash at 34% seems to originate in the empty battery, but that's not for sure)After the reinstallation, said issue occured for the first time. Hence, I reinstalled the OS several times. Currently, I am using the OS from the OKR with the automatic (inescapable) updat... Read more

I would like to replace the DVD drive in a ThinkPad P70 with a 2.5" hard disk, and I have trouble finding the right adapter. I have found several references here and on other sites to the part 00NY314. I have ordered it from IBM, and it's indeed the right shape, but it's only the plastic shell with a metal bottom, and there is no connector for the HDD. Here's a picture of the part that I have received. Note the absence of connectors. ?I have called Lenovo support, and they told me that the part 0B47315 might be the right one. I have ordered that one, too, and while it has all the necessary connectors, it doesn't have the right shape, so I believe it's not appropriate for the P70. Did anyone actually order the part 00NY314? Were you able to connect the HDD? Where did you order it from? Did IBM ship the wrong part? What's the correct part number for the adapter?

Hello, I bought a y510p in december, and ever since getting SLI to work after the Win 8.1 upgrade, I've been completely dissapointed by the performance of the ultrabay GPU. It overheats and crashes the nvidia driver in minutes. While the on board GPU remains at acceptable temps, the ultrabay GPU will steadily rise in temperature untill the driver crashes, while playing somewhat demanding games like Bioshock Infinite, Witcher 2 or Wargame AirLand Battle. Ironically I get far batter performance in these games, if I disable SLI and only run the games on the on board GPU. In less intensive games like Red Orchestra 2, temps are not critical and SLI works fine - this is however a moot point, since I would be able to run these games just fine without an extra GPU. I paid a lot of money for that extra GPU, and seeing it being effectively useless is quite infuriating.  Inb4: Yes, I have the newest drivers. Yes, I've cleaned for dust. Yes, I've undervolted the CPU and underclocked the ultrabay GPU and drastically reduced the in game graphics quality - which brought me to the conclusion that I get better quality disabling SLI altogether.  Unless there is a solution to this, I will absolutely be taking the machine back, as in its current state, I feel that the ultrabay card is effectively useless. Futhermore I get the feeling that Lenovo just jammed it in there without any consideration as to whether it would actually work out practically.  Below i... Read more

Hello, Last week i received my Y510P from a reseller here in Lithuania, and ran into a *slight* problem. When playing more demanding games (though i wouldnt call borderlands 2 a very demanding game), the screen freezes and the sound hangs. Occasionally the display would turn pitch black (sometimes the drivers just reset with screen backlight still on). I checked memory, sshd, cpus and main gpus for errors, but none were found. I have no idea how to test the ultrabay though... Temps are pretty high, but definetly not critical. CPU runs below 85c under load, main gpu runs at around 75c, only ultrabay runs hotter, but i've seen people saying that theirs run above 95c and it still works fine. Mine usually crashes when it reaches 91-93c. It reaches those temps in about 30-60 minutes, steadily heating up.  I tried removing and re inserting, but it didnt have any effect. Im stumped. Hi all. I have ThinkPad T520, and I wanted a USB 3.0 port. I found out that there is a dock station 4338-35 which has one. Awful sad. How naive. Let me be a bit more naive and ask: is it possible to upgrade T520 somehow, and get USB 3.0 controller on it? Or, is USB controller built into the chipset so it's not possible? Thanks.

Hello, I am planning to buy a used laptop (since I can't really afford a new one, at least not a good one). I found a good deal on ebay on a used Thinkpad T520, which is still under guarantee by Lenovo. I want to buy it, but when I googled a bit about this model, I came across some problems on a particular batch of motherboards for T420, T520, that were produced in late 2011 (see here for example). This particular laptop that I want to buy was manufactured on June 2012, so, in theory, it should be safe. But I don't want to spend my money without being sure, so I thought that I should ask you first (before buying it), and make sure that this batch of T520s that were build on June 2012 are good.

I've used the following article to change my boot disk to mSATA Triple your speed Laptop magazine

EDIT: Win 7 pro / Lenovo T520 Thinkpad / 8GB ram.
I installed the mSATA Intel 525 120GB SATA III
quite a while ago and it's been sitting and doing nothing. I did run Intel tools on it and I also used Macrium to image the original HD and I plonked it down on the new mSATA.
Laptop has been rebooted many times. mSATA seems stable.

I got to the step in the article above where I'm supposed to boot to the mSATA and load easyBCD to change the drive letter.
Last 'successful' step was going into the BIOS and changing the boot option to the SSD.
When I try to boot I get
Autochk program not found, skipping and BSOD.
The BSOD is very quick and unusually short. It looks like 2 or 3 lines only. The laptop then quickly reboots.

The mSATA is MBR and has only one partition.

I have no idea what to do next. Any help would be appreciated.

The good news is that I can still boot to the original HD and Win 7 still works!

EDIT: Apparently this means there is a problem with the boot record.
I loaded the Win 7 disc and tried a system repair. It ran but couldn't repair.
Went into recovery cmd prompt as administrator.

/bootrec rebuilding - found 0 windows installs
/mbr and /fixboot .... both end unsucsefully

A:Installing mSata SSD to T520

ChrisPbass, I always recommend removal or disconnect all other hard disks when installing the OS, it saves a lot of aggravation
and allows the OS to be properly installed and bootable.
I would remove the existing drives and do a re-install on the SSD without any other drives present.

I have the latest Conexant driver in the T520, I have done all the "problem solvers" i can find online and nothing works. Is this a software problem or equipment problem.

A:No sound on Thinkpad T520

Troubleshooting Thinkpad audio - You have described a hardware problem with the T520. Download the hardware manual from Lenovo and determine if the headphone jack is part of a replaceable assembly and replace it if so. If the headphone jack is part of the system board the problem is more complicate to repair. You can go to Lenovo's site, plug in the full model number, like 5170-339, and locate the hardware manual--Lenovo's forum is the best place for help with a ThinkPad.

Hello. Today my ThinkPad T520 stopped showing anything, it always shows the white screen. How it started: in my Linux Mint, I verified that when I close the laptop cover, it enters Suspend mode, and when I open it back, it wakes up. I don't quite like it, since I may want to close it just to move from one room to another, and I would like it to keep running; so I adjusted system settings accordingly (there is a dropdown menu, like, what to do when the laptop cover is closed; I set to "do nothing"), and then I closed the cover. I verified that it keeps running, so I opened it, and I see the white screen. I was thinking it is some issue with Linux, so, I just rebooted it, but just when it starts booting, it shows the white screen again. I can wait for some time, it boots into the OS (I'm judging by the HDD led). Alternatively, when it starts booting, I can press F1, it beeps and enters setup (I'm judging by the HDD led being idle). So, the overall system works, but the display keeps being plain white. It looks like the hardware issue.  Could anyone please give me some clue? How could that happen, and how can I try to fix it? Thanks in advance.

A:T520: always white screen

A white screen is usually 1 of 3 things:
Unplugged or partly unplugged LCD cable behind the screen
Broken cable

I have a T520 and have not been able to finger scroll on the pad since I switched to Windows 10.  I have attempted to update the drivers several times and always get answer that drivers are updated.  I have downloaded and installed three different drivers from the Synaptics site including an automatic update that appeared for their touch screen keyboard.  Everything else works.  I have had to resort to use the side screen scroll or my arrows to scroll.  I have had several instances where I have attempted to scroll on the pad by habit and get it to move a couple of lines, but then it stops. Would appreciate any help I can get.  Seem a lot of people have had the same problem over the last year bt haven't been able to get any support because my computer is out of warranty.

Hello, I need a new laptop and decided to go with the T520. I've been a fan of the ThinkPads for a long time, worked on a few models at my company but never owned one. I was first looking at the Edge series but after a brief research I understood that they're not the real successors of the iconic ThinkPad brand, so i picked up the T series. The T520 has everything I want from a laptop - good processor and lots of RAM (I'll upgrade it to 8). The NVIDIA GPU could've been better, but I am not a gamer so it's OK. To do a complete research before buying one I've read almost everything I can find for the model - forums, reviews, etc.At first it surprised me that there aren't a lot of reviews. I thought this was a really popular laptop and I was expecting the internet to be flooded with them. Also many of the forum posts where about different problems with the model and comments on how the new T series aren't comparable as in quality and durability to the IBM ThinkPad era. My question is - how much of this is true? What are your opinions on the new T series? Are they as good as the ThinkPad brand suggests? Should I really pay more for a laptop and get the T520? Sorry if my questions are too broad. Thank you in advance.

We currently are using around 50 HP t520 thin clients in our VMware View environment.  We have found the thin clients to BSOD(Frowny Face) right out of the box, and even after imaging it with the latest HP supplied image.  Curious if others have run into the similar issues with this model. HP tech support has been less than helpful and unable to resolve the issue.  We can reporduce it on our end generally by launcing the VMware View client.

MCoopes. We recently received a batch of T520 thin clients (Windows 8) that are continuously crashing, even after reflashing the HP image. We even sent some units back to HP and they still crash. What we think it is over here is something in the t520 not playing nice with Windows 8. Up until this windows 8 batch, we had been using the t520 with windows 7, this was not an issue until 8. -Nick

Hi Imbre,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Might want to be more specific about what's slow. 1.Is your drive well defragged? That system should run fairly well.
2.Run CCleaner, clean off some junk files.3.Make sure the power settings are configured for optimal performance.

Also, check whether you are consuming up all your CPU resources, i.e. if the CPU is running at 100% load or approaching 100% load.

Also, refer this Link for better understanding.

Hope this helps. Please let me know your findings.

Ever since I upgraded my PC to Windows 10, the Lenovo Power Manager for my 2011 T520 hasn't worked properly.  With that, the fan completely stopped working. This hasn't been a problem until now since I'm usually at my desk with my laptop elevated a couple centimeters off of the desk using a baking rack with a large air purifier blowing air at the back - exactly like I always did, even before Windows 10.I recently nuked my computer and installed everything afresh, getting rid of all extraneous everything. However, I now use my laptop like it was intended to be used (not at a desk), and with the lack of external air cooling, it's getting REALLY hot, and I can't have my CPU hitting 80C on a regular basis. There are no options in the BIOS for the fan, and programs like SpeedFan don't even recognize the fan as being present.I tried using the Lenovo System Update tool, and even let it install all the recommended bloatware.  Even installing the old power manager didn't do anything. Windows Power Manager also can't seem to control the fan, either set to passive so the motherboard can take care of things, or active so that Windows can take care of things.Any suggestions on how to approach this problem?  Or will I just need to upgrade to a machine that is compatible with Windows 10? The other option is rolling back to 7 or 8, but I'm not doing that. I don't get the hate-on people have for Windows 10.  I'm split between two communities at odds: the h... Hello, I see that the T520 still isn't on the list of systems that were successfully tested for Windows 10, even for latest July 2016 version 1607. I nevertheless have tried extensively the most documented guides on the Microsoft forums to complete this endeavour... including clean-boot, disabling all non MS services, disabling start up programs, uninstalling the antivirus, unplugging some RAM, and more... and after 9 unsuccessful attempts with the Win 10 version 1607, built with the Media Creation Tool as a local .iso mounted as a virtual BD on USB, I'm about to give up on Windows 10 for my Lenovo laptop and stay on Windows 7. The upgrade consistently fails at 75% progression, one minute or two after the second reboot, displaying a BSoD-alike screen with a PAGE FAULT IN NONPAGED AREA stop code. The PC then happily reverts to the previous operating system... i.e. Windows 7. When logging in, the following error is displayed: We couldn't install Windows 100x19000101 - 0x4000DThe installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation The first error message (PAGE FAULT) seems to suggest an issue with some low-level driver, while the second  message (MIGRATE_DATA) would rather point at something related to my data ?? Did anyone of you experience and maybe even overcome this error ? Or possibly succeed in getting Windows (10 Pro) upgraded on their T520 ? Thanks in advance for your feedack! Cheers, ... Read more

Hi,
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T520 laptop and it is very slow to boot up. It has been like this for as long as I can remember, so I figured I'd ask a professional about it. Bootracer says it is taking around 5 minutes to boot, and it's extremely annoying. So annoying that I only restart my computer once a week or so.

I have no idea if this is a hardware issue, software issue, or both, so hopefully this is the correct forum to post in.

Some computer info:
Windows 7 Pro SP1
Intel Core i5-2520M @ 2.5Ghz
8GB DDR3 RAM
Toshiba 500GB hard drive, 5400RPM (130GB used)

Here are a couple of images from my Soluto report on the starting processes:

Please note that this problem has been going on way since I have installed Malwarebytes which shows a 60 second load time.

Any other information or test results that I can provide, I'd be more than happy to. I'm not sure if my 5400RPM hard drive is slowing me down greatly, or not.

Thank you in advance!

A:Thinkpad T520 Slow Boot

Addition: It also takes a while for it to resume from hibernate. Once it finally finishes booting or resumes from hibernation, the computer works great.

We have an Estate of over 2000 Thinclients which consist of T510/T520 we are migrating to Windows 7 Embedded. All devices have licences for Win7 Embedded (labels on HP Info tab) But were running XP. Our Win7 embedded image installs without issue on the T510, but fails to install on the T520 The error is as in the titleERROR *** The system does not have the licence for the image OS and thats as far as it gets. (USB being used to apply the image.)I have searched these forums and seen others with the issue, but never a clear fix. I have today engaged HP support. But this appears to be a slow process.I am aware the licence key is stored in the device bios. ** BUT ** Both models of devices are licenced for Win7 Embedded. Why does it work on the T510 (old model no longer available) but not on the currently available T520 ?  So far I have been asked to download the latest image (32bit flavour) from HP and see if it will install by the USB key method, I think we both know that WILL work (HP agent and myself) BUT that wont solve our problem. We are talking about a lot of Thinclients here (I understand could have as many as 4000 mixed 510/410 throughout the organisation. ) Anyone any ideas ? I have surfed the internet dry on this one.

Extremely annoying mouse behavior.

Lenovo T520
8GB memory

Wireless MS mouse
Wired MS keyboard
Wired HP 425 printer

Sometimes a wireless mouse will work just fine and then it will get erratic. Moving the mouse is very laggy (like you're playing an online game and the server is being hammered). Actually clicking something on a page is very difficult and very very annoying as it is so time consuming.

It doesn't happen all the time and I can't pinpoint anything that is taxing the system and making the CPU crawl.

At this point, I have a wired trackball and it appears to be working fine, but if history proves itself my wife will start working and it will staring messing up again.

Main applications that are run are
Firefox/gmail
Quickbooks
Adobe Acrobat X
Internet connection is wired...

Maybe some sort of driver problem? I have uninstalled and installed the mouse. This happens with ANY wireless mouse.
It's not happening right now w/this trackball...but I expect it to.

I would try re downloading the software for the mouse and reinstalling it that way and see what happens.

Everything else works fine. The BIOS and agent are up to date and I'm able to fix the issue by deleting and remaking the User account after the imaging process but don't see this as a viable solution when deploying thin clients en mass.  Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Hello. I've got ThinkPad T520 4243-FS9, it has a FullHD screen with the resolution 1980x1020. I always use external monitor, which has much less DPI, and unfortunately, Linux can't handle that normally: there's no good way to support monitors with different DPI. So I consider replacing the screen with the usual HD resolution: 1366x768, e.g. it's 96 dpi, which is pretty fine for me. I asked at https://www.laptopscreen.com , and they reported that the screen I'm looking for is http://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/IBM-Lenovo/THINKPAD+T520+4243/?hash=915842 , but they also said that I'll need a different video cable: > If you wish to use the lower resolution screen in the laptop you will first need to change the video cable in the laptop to a standard HD channel cable (we do not stock video cables, or have cable model info) capable of properly running the lower resolution screen, the current video cable in the laptop will not support the lower resolution screen resolution. But in this thread https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/Upgrading-T520-screen-from-1366-x-768-to... , I see that the guy edit1754 reported: > I performed a 1366x768 to 1920x1080 display upgrade on a friend's W510, and can confirm that, at least for his laptop, the cable for the 1366x768 display is a 40-pin dual-channel LVDS cable that will support a 1920x1080-resolution display. So is it possible to say for sure,... I have attached all the required files in Attachemnt.

System: Lenovo T520
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Installation: Pre-installed by Lenovo
Age of system (hardware): 1 Month
Age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?): 1 month

Thanks a lot!

A:Random BSOD on Lenovo T520 esp. on USB access

Memtest needs to be run for 6-8 passes. If you did that skip re-running it
These crashes were caused by memory corruption/exception (probably a driver).
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

* If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!

* If you have raid update its Driver.

Memtest.

Quote:
*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Driver verifier

Quote:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so ... Read more

I don't understand why its taking so long for the updates from MS are taking so long to install on Windows 10. There aren't a lot as I am doing them as they come out each month or in between. Retart process can take half an hour or infinity (I power off and restart myself because it seems like nothing is happening.) Other than what seems to be slow from time to time the system runs ok.

A:Updates for Windows 10 on my T520 takes forever!!

You will love the reason.... The T520 is not supported by Lenovo on Windows 10 ( not tested, no drivers, etc.).  So search as it might, it can likely not find the drivers. It should eventually finish.Check here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht103535 I installed a T520 with Win10 over the weekend (with the NVIDEA video adapter).  At first is was  a train wreck.  I had put an SSD in it about a year ago so that helped the install and running of Win10 on the system.   So far, once it ran Windows Updated, it was better. The display drivers for the Intel 4000 video are the beginning of the problems. When opening a Window, the new window opens behind the active open windows.  There are many other quirks too and missing devices/drivers.  THere are others online in forums that have been successful getting it to run. How many devices on the system one loses remains to be seen. The end user (family member) is not going to be able to deal with it as they come up so back to Win 7 for now.   I removed it (cloned the Win 10 to another SSD for later playing).

OS: HP ThinPro 6-64BIOS: L41 v01.02 I'm looking for a bit of guidance on flashing the BIOS on this TC. Instructions for the softpaq say to run hptc-bios-flash but this will only work with the tool-less option set in the BIOS. As this is a very early BIOS version, that option does not exist in the BIOS config. After a reboot the update is not applied. Ideally what I would like to do is to create a bootable USB to flash the BIOS from, but the part I'm struggling to find is the correct BIOS flashing utility. The ami-flash reports a corrupt BIOS file, although I know it is fine as I've used the same file on other systems. Could anyone give me some pointers please?

Hello, I'm confused about dock stations for Dual Core / Quad Core modifications of T520. After some reading, including some posts on this forum, I assumed that the only difference is that Quad Core models require 170W power supply, and otherwise the dock stations are the same. However, I still see on ebay here and there: "T520: Dual Core models only" even for docs with 170W power supply, e.g.: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-Thinkpad-4338-35U-0B56231-04W3586-Mini-Dock-Plus-Series-3-USB3-0-w-17... Could anyone please clarify? Is the seller wrong, or is this dock station really for Dual Core models only? Thanks.

Hello, hunter1b It might be a dust on the system board surface, especially near to the CPU power circuits or laptop power input connector.Use the vacuum cleaner (or, better, gas cylinder) to remove the dust, carefully. And then use isopropyl alcohol to wash the surface.

Hello, We just purchased a few HP t520s to complement a lab we have of t510s.  The t510s are working great.  The t520s are almost there.  i just need to hide one pesky splash screen.  When the t520 is booting and gets to the GUI, but before the network is connected, it shows a splash screen telling me that its "waitting for the network".  Unfortunately that splash screen also has a button labeled "Network Settings".  That button, that bad boy is what I want to disable remove or hide.  I don't care if the splash screen comes up or not, but giving the users access to the network settings and the host name and all sorts of settings is an accident waitting to happen. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get rid of that button?  I would really appreciate any clues, ideas, comments or words of wisdom on this subject. Thank you all! René

Having a weird issue, sometimes when my users launch their desktop in Xendesktop 7.7, the screens on the T520 do not populate fully, you can see in the pic, there is white space left over.  Anyone seen this?  Rebooting the box typically fixes this.  I have inserted the arrow in red to show how much space is left over not being utilized....

I just purchased a T520 laptop. It seems pretty great but unfortunately I opted for the 15.6" HD (1366x768) screen.I'd love to upgrade but have no idea of the best way to go about doing this. The best option I've found is to buy the 15.6" FHD (1920x1080) screen on ebay and replace it myself. Is the T520 40 pin? Is this a good approach? Thanks for any advice!

It'd void your warranty... Maybe consider sending it back and reordering it with a FHD panel? It's also pretty hard to source the exact same 95% gamut panel found from the factory, but not impossible:forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=94601

Hi All, T520 upgraded from Windows 7 Pro. Got the old Black screen of death with flashing cursor. So far I've tired:booting into safe mode witht he same results - you can logon (no password installed yet) and get a desktop for about 10seconds before losing it.Removing the windows 7 video drivers and letting windows install generic driversUpdated the BIOS using the lastest Lenovo BIOS BootCDKilled all the Lenovo processes that involve video (to see if there might be something loading after logon).I saw this on an install on one of our X201T series laptops as well but we over came that problem.Any future suggestions appriciated.

Dear bazagee,

Welcome in lenovo community,
Lenovo did not test or released all the compatible windows 10 drivers for the T520 yet.
So my advice to you is to go back to the previous windows to have all the laptop functions working.
Also you can follow the below link for Lenovo supported systems list for Windows 10 Upgrade.

Hello All,

Many of us T520 owners have had problems with skipping/cracking/distorted audio as a result of DPC Latency Spikes. I have been reading every available thread on the topic and I found a simple solution in a T420 thread  that I wanted to share with any T520 users that may have overlooked it.

The Latency Spikes experienced by many users (including myself) were caused by the Ethernet Driver (Intel 82579LM Gigabit Adapter). The current T520 is loaded with Intel driver version 11.12.38.2001. However, if you revert to version 11.12.36.0 the issue disappears. You can download the driver directly from the HP website. (It is no longer available on the Lenovo Support Page)

Thanks again to the original T420 poster and GOOD LUCK!

Please edit the links in your post so that they are correctly formatted, and then when that's done can this be forwarded to a forum moderator for submission to Lenovo? If this conclusively fixes the problem their driver download should be rolled back.

Multiple t520 Windows 8 thin clients have repeatedly failed. Meaning occasionally when a user will boot up the device it will present a Blue Screen of Death recovery screen- " System needs to be repaired". This has happened on 6 or 7 of our windows 8 thin clients. In order to even get past the BSOD we have to re-flash with HP's stock windows 8 image. However, the issue is not occurring on our windows 7 thin clients of the same make and model. Only the Windows 8 devices. HP support has not been very helpful or synpatheic, we even sent a couple back to HP to re-image and they also fail again when placed back in production.  Is anyone else having this issue with their Windows 8 t520 thin clients? My best idea is to roll back these machines to windows 7, however HP does not offer a solution to roll the devices down to 7 from 8.

A:Windows 8 t520 Thin client failures / consistent crashes

The t520 Thin Client does not support Windows 8 32-bit, so I am assuming you mean WES8 64-bit.  There is a recently updated WES8 image for this platform and I'm told it resolves a BSOD issue.  If you want to try it, download and install the ThinUpdate tool Softpaq from the t520 drivers page.  You can install ThinUpdate on any Windows PC connected to the Internet.  It will download the image and build a bootable USB key (if you're not familiar with the tool.)  Look for the images with the + symbol.   --Keith

Hi, After reimaging our T520/T510 Thin Client devices with the current HP ThinPro OS T6X52011 Rev.15 Jun 2015, after rebooting the devices some return with factory default settings. All settings are lost. This does not occur after every reboot, it can take 5-20 reboots of a device before it happens. There have been over 25 occurences of this. Is there a setting or something else that needs to be change? or is this a fault in the device HW?We have over 250 devices and 10% device reset is not good!! Our T620 devices also reset to factory as well and these are set up with the default image that came on the device!!If you need more information please let me know. Thanks

Hi All, I'm trying to set up network security at our office. I am doing this via 802.1x / 802.3 wired authentication. I want to have all users authentication on my thin clients to have specific vlans and dACLs applied. This means that a user has to domain logon to the thin client itself. Historically we have been using ThinPro 5.1 images. Is it possible to do a domain logon on ThinPro ? I don't know. Right now the devices autologin as "user". I see no place to add user and the login window during startup pops up and dissapears nearly instantly. If I cannot do this via ThinPro, can I easily move my fleet OS from ThinPro to WES (whatever version)? What are the unknowns with a move like this? Can I use device manager to do this? Do I need special licensing? Thank you

So I keep getting this pop-up (Att 1), saying that I can't eject my HD b/c it's in use by other programs, close any applications, etc, etc. This is occurring frequently often but not in a consistent pattern.

[Edit: I'm not trying to eject the drive, and don't want to - it's my full-time data drive.]

I found the associated entries in Event Viewer (pasted below). Anyone got pointers on how to determine what is kicking this off?

I have an LG blu ray burner in my new build. It seems to do everything but one, open blu ray discs. It doesn't seem to recognize them. It will open regular dvd's, and burn them, but not blu rays. I might think the problem is with the burner, except that I also have a usb Samsung blu ray burner that does the same thing. I's used several different programs, vlc media player, dap player, pol player. None work. Does anyone have any idea what causes this?

A:Win 7 Won't Recognize Blu Ray (But does everything else)

Hi Richard and welcome to Seven Forums. There is no built in support for Blu Ray Disc Playback or burning in Windows. You need a burner such as Nero, Imageburn and a player such as Cyberlink or Arcsoft Blu ray players. Google for these Blu Ray players.

Hello

So.. can you recognize this into one missing driver, or just one problem causing it. There's a whole lots of small bugs I have.

So to the first one:
If I open my browser on my second screen (with a video etc), my World of Warcraft will have some fps drops (1-8 drops from 60). Is that normal? I have chosen the Graphic Driver from Nvidia's website. I also updated my Direct-X files, but no luck at all! If I play and run the browser my GPU temperature will be at 50-60 Celsius. Nothing fancy.

Secondly:
When i'm in-game, I flip between the windows by pressing 'Windows key' + 'Tab', it will sometimes run very smooth, but also lag a little. Especially if I flip to the desktop. It will go there, but a little lag.

Third:
My shutdown time is quite different. Sometimes I shutdown really quick, and sometimes it's longer. Not slow, just longer than the quickest ones. I have nothing, but Windows applications (like sound, internet etc) running on the taskbar & the start-up applications.
You shall be very welcome to check my specs below all this text!

Sorry for wall of text, I hope this is my final topic about all the tippy-bugs I have
Your help is very appreciated.

Best Regards,
FredeGail

A:Can you recognize this?

Nothing sounds abnormal in the least to me. I would quit worrying about slower shutdowns sometimes and random fps drops when you're opening and using other applications while playing a game. You're multitasking and sharing memory, CPU, and GPU power. Something's got to give.
