HP Pavilion Notebook not turning on

Q: HP Pavilion Notebook not turning on

I have been using my HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-p174na for casual use (a couple of times a week, nothing strenuous at all) since I purchased it a year and a half ago. Yesterday I completed a spreadsheet and checked/sent some emails and then turned it off and put it on charge overnight. This morning I unplugged it and put it away. Then on getting it out to use again this evening I cannot get it to start. I have checked a lot of support pages and searches for the problem and have tried all solutions I have come across (hard resets, attempting turn on with and without battery and/or AV power cord). Nothing seems to work. There are no flashing lights or noises coming from the notebook at all. There also seems to be no damage to any of the cables or power equipment. Please advise what course of action I should now take.

A few days ago, after using my laptop for a bit i left it, still on, for an hour or so and returned to a black screen.Assuming it had a flat battery, i plugged it in and attempted to charge it.After a few presses of the power button (spread over 5 or so minutes as i double checked the charger connection and what not), i noticed the charging light near the port on the laptop was unlit.I followed some online instructions and removed the battery and attempted a hard reset. Nothing. I then put the battery back in, left it to charge for half an hour. Still nothing. I assumed the problem may be the charger (which did not have a light on it to indicate whether it was working), so i bought a new one, but still didnt turn on :/I thought it might be the charging port is acting up but apparently there would still be some sign or light to indicate even a minimal bit of power coming in. Anyone experienced this before or have any ideas?

Hello My HP ENVY Notebook - 17t-n100 CTO (ENERGY STAR), suddenly shut down without any error or message. It wasn't overheating as it was on only for about 25 minutes. I tried to turn it back on afterwards but it was has not been responding. The charging light in on like everything is normal. Battery is fully charged. When I try to turn it on while pressing the power on button, the button itself blinks for about half a second, maybe even less, the fan starts running for about the same time, the light that indicates that laptop is plugged in, the one I mentioned earlier, shuts down and that's it, nothing happens. I tried the hard reset but it didn't help. The laptop is a brand new one and was bought for an UPcoming event on October, now it?s not responding and am not sure what to do. Please do you have any suggestion as to what could have caused this, and how to fix it?

Hi, Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Diagnostic Menu option ( f2 ) and run the tests on the Hard Drive. Post back with the results, including any error codes that may be generated. Can you also post back with the full Model No. and Product No. of your 15 series notebook - see Here for a guide on locating this information. Regards, DP-K

Hello to all,

I have bought new HP laptop ProBook series. Before connecting, I was informed to "form" the battery first so it can last longer. I'm not sure what that means. Battery is included in the package but was not connected to the laptop. What should I do first? Should I connect battery and turn on laptop, or should I first connect it to the adapter for charging?

In the instruction nothing is said about the correct procedure. There are few steps such as connecting the battery to the laptop, then connecting the external power (adapter) and then turn on computer.

Should there be some time after connecting the external power and before turning on?
Thanks

I have a HP Notebook, and whenever I turn it on the HP logo turns on, but after several seconds the screen goes blank and then then returns to the logo, and so on. I tried everything, removing the battery, turning it on/off, closing the screen, recovering BIOS, etc. PS. It used the w#Windows 10 operating system. PSS. On the BIOS It only has the Security, System Configuration, Exit and Main options, it somehow does not include Diagnostics so I can run a test, and I can't update BIOS if I cant reach window. I would really appreciate it if you could reply as soon as possible. Thanks.

A:HP Stream Notebook not turning on.

Do any lights stay on when the screen goes blank or does everything go dark?  It sounds like the screen stays on when you are in the BIOS since you were able to run the diagnostics.  You might try restoring Windows back if that is what is not working using the F11 system recovery option.

Hello people. I would like to request assistance.
I need to disable the touchpad on my Asus G74Sx notebook. Is there some kind of program I can download that will allow me to disable the touchpad? I used to have a program that allowed me to do so, but when I google it now, I don't get any results that will allow me to download that program, it was called FspUip.exe
Pressing function F9 does not disable the touchpad, and going into the BIOS and disabling the internal pointing device also disables the keyboard.

I have downloaded all the drivers for my notebook numerous times, and I don't know what else to do to try to turn off this touchpad. Going into the control panel and disabling the touchpad that way, also doesn't work.

Hey guys. Recently I installed 16 gigs of ram into my notebook and it had been acting laggier than before so I decided to update the Bios. However, my computer will not fully shut off unless I hard reset it so while my computer was restarting, I had to hard shut it off. I believe this corrupted the Bios because even after I tried holding the power for 15 seconds, 30 seconds and 1 minute, it still would not turn on. The power LED is on whenever I plug the AC adapter in but my computer WILL NOT Work.  Any help is very welcomed...

Hello, I was using my HP laptop today. Then, when I got a message telling me my battery life was at 12% and that I should  plug the charger in, I did so. However, as soon as the charger was inserted into the laptop's socket, it immediately shut down, and I have not been able to revive it since. I have tried running it off the mains - battery in and out - but shows no signs of life whatsoever (no lights anywhere, even when plugged in). I noticed that there had been a safety recall of all batteries sold with this laptop from 2013 (I bought in June 2015), but I checked and mine is not faulty (in that respect at least). Any help/ ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Josiah

Right now I have a serious problem on my notebook....
My Notebook is HP Probook 4421s

Here are what happens before it goes completely mess right now....
1. I was surfing on the internet, when suddenly a notebook pop up, and disappear again (this is what i suspected to bee the root cause of the problem)
2. then I continued surfing as usual..after about 1 hour, my screen started to scramble "a little bit", then it goes blank for 1 second, then a pop up on my bottom right screen says something about "disk driver has recovered......"
3. i don`t know what to do, then while I`m searching how to fix the problem, it happens again....
4. it happens about 3-4 times. At the last time, the scrambled screen become worse...
5. I decided to do "system restore", but after restarting, it goes to completely blank screen
6. i turn off the notebook, wait about 15 minutes, then turn on again, still only blank screen
7. i read about "hard reset (15 minutes hit power button while unplug power cord and battery", still blank screen
8. try, 2-3 times, i give up, and wait until tomorrow (today)
9. then i try to turn it on again, the screen is on, showing some vertical thick line of scrambled screen. i can hardly read what the screen is showing, but it still fail to start up the windows...

My laptop isn't powering up, the charge port light does light up so it's at least receiving some power. When the battery is plugged in, I can insert the power cable and the charging port light is breifly blue/white, but then turns red. Without the battery, it stays blue. With the battery plugged in but charging cable not, pressing the power button causes it to blink 3 times. I've tried a hard reset and I've confirmed it's not a RAM issue, but do not have the tools to do anything else. What should I do next?

I have a HP Pavilion 27xi that will randomly turn black and unresponsive.  The way to make it work again is to unplug it from the power source and plug it back in.  When I have gone to reset the monitor to factory settings nothing happens.

A:HP Pavilion 27xi keeps turning black

Of course, I too am having problems with my "HP Pavilion 27xi IPS LED Backlit Monitor". The screen going black for about two minutes and comes back for about 15 minutes. I used a different monitor and it worked fine. A new power brick didn't stop the "cut to black" problem either. All the power/hibernate/sleep functions are set to never. The power light goes out and won't come back on until the screen comes back. This leads me to believe the problem is in the monitor. I also believe it is related to the power section but not the power brick. When it is up, there is nothing to idicate that there is a problem.

I did recently;
-Startup Repair; but doesn't solve the issue.
-I disassemble my notebook/laptop I thought it has a CMOS battery
-Load Default Settings of BIOS; still doesn't change anything.

Sometimes the BIOS Setup doesn't appear in starting up but it shows a message that something like there's a problem in BIOS, I forgot the exact message then below there's a choice:
Press F1 to run Setup.
Press F2 to load defaults.................etc.

Pressing F1 it goes me to BIOS Setup
Pressing F2 the windows loads normally

A:BIOS Setup always show in turning on a Notebook/Laptop

It does sound like a failing (or failed) CMOS battery. Is the BIOS clock/date resetting itself to the same time/date? What is the make and full model number of the laptop/notebook?

Hello Taey, and welcome to Seven Forums.

While changing the advanced power plan settings, double check to make sure that your default power plan is still selected. It's a bit to easy to change it by mistake and not notice it. In addition, double check your Battery settings to see if the percentage levels may be set to cause this by mistake.

Hope this helps for now.

I have a Pavilion 22xi flat screen monitor that is 1 year, 9 months old, so it?s outside of the 1 year warranty period. For about the last month, it has been turning itself off after being on for about an hour or 2. By this, I mean the power indicator light also goes out, in addition to the screen going blank, so it?s totally shut off , while the rest of the PC remains on. I can turn it back on at the power button, but after that, it starts turning itself off with increasing frequency, to the point where it will eventually stay on for only a few seconds before shutting itself off again. The problem seems to increase the more I use the PC for web-browsing or the more I use it on a website with a high video demand. For that first hour or 2 of usage, it seems to work alright with no problems. But after that, it starts shutting itself off.I haven?t used any testing procedure on the monitor, such as using different video cables, trying it with a different PC, updating any BIOS either on the PC or the monitor, or performing a ?hard reset? on the PC itself. I do believe the video driver for the monitor is up to date. The PC the monitor is connected to is an HP Pavilion P7-1510 desktop PC on a Windows 8.1, 64-bit operating system. Is there a chance that the separate power transformer for the monitor itself is bad?I was hoping someone could give me some idea as to where the problem might be and how to repair it. Plug the power cord back into the monitor and then into the wall outlet (not a power bar or surge protector)Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitorStep 5. Navigate to the Factory Reset option and select itStep 6. Try different cables between your computer and monitor.Step 7. My stepson has an HP Pavilion dv1000 notebook. The power supply gets extremely hot and seems to be melting the tip to the plug where it connects to the notebook. Does this seem to be a problem with the notebook or only with the power supply. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

A:HP Pavilion notebook

wow that is pretty hot... does it always run that hot, or does it only run that hot when he's gaming, or watching a movie? could just be a demanding laptop, but then again you could take it to a PC specialist (comp usa or local computer shop) and get the powersupply checked out. dang if it's melting the tip thats pretty hot... My dad's apple powerbook gets up to 75 degrees celcius when he's just surfing the web and stuff, so hot you have to take it off your legs if you don't want to burn yourself. so get it checked out, might just be a demanding laptop.

So, after a successfull installation of win10 in my HP Pavilion dv6-7024tx, I ran windows updates to make sure it gets all driver for its hardware automatically, it did though and was absoultely fine expect one audio problem relating to micro (not working), I couldn't notice that time. I also installed HP support assistance for further assistance to make sure everything work just okay. Things to describe here, everything works absolutely fine without the built in Micro issue for Audio device. It is litterally not working to input audio anymore here. In my previous Win7 which was given in factory default setup, had BeatAudio driver and I saw that software and everything was Okay earlier.

I have not been able to get my USB 3 flash drives to workMy mouse works so I assume that my bluetooth is workingAnd my tiny fix me stick usb drive works so I assume it would be a USB 2 drive.I have installed all HP updates including the recent UEFI where I dont see the option to boot from a USB flash drive well anyways it does not do it anyways, not is the drive recognized.I have checked every USB driver for updated drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, checked HP, Windows update and the original manufacturer for updated driversI have checked the power on the hub as recommended on one HP article and did get a devmgr.xml missing error out of thatI ran sfc scannow assume the slash is in there my keyboard has went french on meBy the way my friend as the identical model of computer and all the same identical problems and missing files are happening on her computerThe only difference is that I am in the insiders program and her computer is on the regular Windows 10 build which we have not had problems with till this and I am beginning to wonder whether it has to do with the UEFI recent updates (question mark)

A:Re: hp pavilion 15 notebook Usb 3

Hi, It is great to upgrade system to Windows 10, but in the same time, series of issues occur, like the USB device issue. After upgrading the system to Windows 10, you find that your USB device cannot connect to your PC. You may need to plug your external devices like MP3, pen drive, printer, etc. to your computer through the USB ports. So it is very inconvenient that the USB ports don?t work properly. Solutions below may help you fix the USB port issue. Since your USB device works properly before you upgrade the system, the problem most probably is not caused by the USB device. But you can also plug the USB device to another computer. If it unfortunately doesn?t work, you can consider replacing the device. Following are the solutions to figure out the problem. Solution 1: Check if the problem is caused by power supply issue 1. Unplug the power supply and charger plug from your PC.2. Restart your PC. Connect your USB device to the PC again. Then you can plug the power supply.Solution 2:The Power Management would also be the cause of the USB problems. Windows is set to shut down your USB controller to save power by default, sometimes it won?t be able to power it back up. So try following steps to prevent Windows from ?managing? power to your USB controller or the devices.1. Open Device Manager.2. Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers branch.3. Double-click the USB Root Hub device, and click the Power Management tab. (if there?... Read more

Hi,I have ongoing issues with my HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-P287SA, Windows 10.  Yesterday it would not boot, instead it flashed the caps-lock LED at me once which I beleive is a CPU issue. I did a hard reset on it (took the battery out ect.) and it booted and worked normally all day. This moring it again won't boot again but this time it beeps twice, waits a few seconds and then beeps twice again, five tinmes in total, and then it flashes the caps-lock LED twice, waits, and then twice again. It won't boot at all, even after a hard reset.  What does the beeping mean, what is the problem here?

Hello there...

I'm needing help diagnosing a non-working HP Pavilion ZE1000
I received it from a friend after it failed. None of the laptop leds would turn on, and there were no POST beeps of any kind. The HDD and CD unit would turn -the floppy won't, but it might be a BIOS setting-, but the screen won't show anything at all.

After double-checking the obvious (LCD disabled, brightness setting, power supply output, etc.) I checked internet and found that the DC jack is a common problem with these laptops. Sure enough, on this one it was a little loose, but even after fixing it all the symptoms stay the same. I have tried re-setting all the connectors and looking for any obvious damage on the mobo (there's none).

The weird thing is that if I leave the laptop "on" (Fan & HDD turning), after a while the CPU and the VIA chipset get warm. Should I just assume that the BIOS is fried, or are these symptoms of a defunct mobo?

Is there any guru around that has dealt with this problem before?

Thanks for your help,

JR

A:Help diagnosing HP Pavilion notebook

Can you try an external monitor? Disconnecting all extra hardware (drives) and replacing the memory are some things to try.

Nothing weird about CPU and chipset getting warm - BIOS is exactly that (Basic) and does not bother with power savings and such.

Welcome
You dmps are showing code 116, and that can be a problem as small as a driver, but can be hardware, such as memory or worse
atikmpag.sys
You can update the driver.
If it is anything else it is most likely hardware related. Since it is new, you may want to exercise the Warranty. I know from past experience, too many changes will void the warranty.

Hi All:

Mr Bruce 1959 has suggested I re-post my problem here so here goes:
A few weeks ago I started to download DVDShrink from what looked like a perfectly legitimate company site. After I clicked to download the program it began instead to install itself. At the same time all kinds of alarms went off - Comodo, Malwarebytes, etc. - and I quickly shut down.
After booting up I ran a quick Mbam scan and it found 32 infected files which I deleted. I then ran a full Mbam scan and it found a bunch more. Later I also ran full Mbam and Avast scans but this time around neither came up with anything.
For a few days everything ran OK but then Firefox began to freeze up whenever I brought up a web page with a Youtube video on it. Then other things started to freeze - Task Manager, etc. - and now it's reached the stage that the computer won't boot. The computer won't even start in Safe Mode. At best it just brings up my mouse pointer (which works) and the Windows Welcome screen but nothing more.
Different Windows messages have appeared at times one of which said something to the effect that Windows was stopping to prevent further damage. There is a separate RECOVERY partition on the D drive for restoring the computer to factory settings but I can't access it.

A:HP Pavilion Notebook Not Booting

Nice machine and configuration.
I would first try removing two memory modules, and attempting a boot with the third.. then if that doesn't work, change modules until you have tried all three.
It is difficult to trouble-shoot a machine like that... but we are seeing a LOT of ealy failures in the large laptops hard drives from 250 GB to 500 GB, so suspect that your hard drive might be bad. A good test would be to try any other known good hard drive from 80 GB on up to 500 GB... can you borrow one, then try to format and install it.
If still dead when you change memory and hard drive, it is time to get it back to HP for warranty work.
Anything you do that is not memory and not a hard drive will void your warranty.

Hello.I am a student going into my first year at University. I have had my HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC for two years and slowly it has started falling apart. I take pride in looking after my things [phones, ipods e.c.t], but this laptop has seriously upset me, I used to have a laptop before this and it lasted for over 6 years. The corners on the HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC started to come undone and I used some tape to ease the weight when closing the lid but suddenly the two clips holding each joint came out and refuse to go back in and one of the hinges came out completely causing the laptop to be tilted and unable to close. I am extremely upset that this laptop is this fragile, I did some research and noticed that I'm not the only one with this issue and its seems to be common. I have seriously cannot afford to purchase a new laptop as I need to buy lots of books for University and also need a laptop to study.

I'm having a Pavilion  HP DM4 i5 ,  with 6 GB RAM installed. Is it possible to upgrade the RAM to 16 GB - which RAM-Modules do I need then? On the official documents the maximum RAM is 8 GB, but at the time, the documents were made, no 8GB-Modules were available. Does the BIOS support 8GB Modules? The notebook has two slots, so my hope is, if I replace the built in 2x4GB with 2x8GB, I'll have 16 GB of RAM. For what I need this? My spouses laptop which had not been used in months, on plugging it into my router/ modem was working fine, updated Norton , still worked okay then windows updates came down 112 plus 5 optional updates were installed, after doing a restart I found the mouse would not work and One note kept popping up and the notebook kept freezing up. I finally tried to resyore to an earlier date, no difference, then I tried a refresh but that failed with an error message, no idea what it said it flashed on and off so fast I did not have a chance to read it. Now I am doing a recovery using the HP recovery discs, it just prompted me to insert disc 2, on the instruction sheet sent with the discs it says to press F9 but it seems that did not work so tried F 11 and that worked. I have never been able to set him up with his own Microsoft account password, it always rejects it or changes mine, phone Microsoft many time about this but no help.If anyone can let me know what is going on with this laptop let me know, I cannot use it without the mouse although my spouse can, but it should work. Inserted disc 2 and pressed enter but a long list of messages appeared about no bootable device, so now I am really stuck. please help, it was windows 8and the updates were windows 8.1.

Hi, purchased the stated item no less than 18 months ago and today, whilst writing a job application and without any forewarning, the system started making a clunking sound and switched off. tried to turn on and went into automatic repair mode. Tried to do a system recovery, unable as it says the device needs repairing. Any ideas? surely this must be a manufacturing fault? HP website is also unable to tell me my warranty status. help appreciated. Laptop is of great need right now!

Hello, I seem to be having quite the issue with this laptop (apparently many others have this issue as well), I'm trying to get it working for a friend. name:  HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PCnumber:  QA668UA#ABAOS:  Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1 First thing I noticed was that there were zero Windows Updates installed and zero Restore points created. Nothing needed to be backed up file-wise, went to install Windows 10 and realized that it isn't free anymore, so scratch that idea. No audio has been able to play through the speakers through Windows. (though when I launched the HP BIOS Hardware Diagnostic Tool, I was able to hardware test the speakers, and they played audio, passed multiple tests) I've troubleshot every possibility I could think of that could cause something like this. Installed new audio drivers update (restarted, no sound). Installed some Windows Updates. No sound. Installed chipset utility, MEI driver, graphics driver, and display audio drivers. Restarted, no sound still. Installed HP BIOS updates, and HP BIOS EUFI updates, restarted, still no sound. Installed 230 more Windows Updates. No sound. Rolled back audio drivers, restarted, no sound. Installed older recommended audio drivers, restarted, no audio still... Installed HP Hardware Diagnostic Tool (was able to get audio to play through speakers during a hardware test in BIOS). --------------------- That lead me t... Hello everyone,my laptop was working fine, suddenly some keys stopped working like T, Y, Tab, left ctrl, 9 (numlock), F10. I was searching troughout the forum didn't find nothing which could solve me the problem.  I'm using windows 8.1 and I've tried also to test them over Linux,  nothing, same problem. Even when I start the BIOS menu and there is a command to select with F10 in BIOS I can't select it. It won't recognize (tried with and without the key fn). Didn't also split anything on it, so I'm asking here for any help before I go to a service. Any ideas? Thanks

I want to upgrade the RAM from 4 to 8GB (16 if possible) and upgrade the OS to one with a longer support life - I'm thinking Windows 7 or 8.1. Is it best to do the upgrades serially and which should I do first? What RAM should I buy i.e. ordering info? Which OS do you recommend and where is the best place to buy it and the preferred media. Thanks to those forum members in advance for your advice.butchiepoo

A:Upgrade HP Pavilion Notebook - RAM and OS

Hi, Please use the following manual:     http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01918142.pdf RAM: page 2 gives you RAM specs and max RAM supported. Page 67 gives you part number, you can use part number to order from HP or online stores. Please note: this is an old machine and RAM could be a bit hard to find now.For OS: Windows 7 drivers are available on itshomepage:          http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-dv7-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/374... You are much better to upgrade to Windows 7 than others because HP supports it. For OS, you can buy from a computer shop or order from Microsoft. Please note again, this machine is 8 years old. Please do not waiste more money on it. Regards.

My HP pavilion does not take charging after 80% and sometimes the charging light starts blinking. It shows plugged in , not charging.

A:My HP pavilion 15 notebook does not charge after 81%

Have you tried a battery diagnostic either in the UEFI diagnostics (F2 as you power on) or in the HP Support Assistant running from Windows? Stopping at 81% seems like it may be a dead power cell in the battery. Can we have the full model number of the laptop and an idea how old the battery is? Original?

Hi!I am using HP Pavilion 15 Notebok PC (F6C42PA#ACJ). It came with Win 8.1 preinstalled on a 1 TB HDD. I have upgraded the OS to win 10 and now want to upgrade my HDD to a SSD. I was wondering if Transcend TS256GSSD370S and Samsung Evo 850 is compatible with my laptop. Also how to enable AHCI mode? I don't see any such option in BIOS.Thank you.

My HP Pavilion Notebook  Product No:  P1A79UA#ABA  On Windows 10 keeps hibernating for no apparent reason.  This has happened since I bought the laptop new about 10 months ago.  Today it happened about 15 times (sometimes it will go weeks at a time without happening).  This occurs while I'm actively working on the computer (e.g. actively typing or browsing), not just when the computer is idle.I use the HP recommended power settings and have the advanced setting of Hibernate set to Never.Any help would be great.

A:Upgrading CPU for HP Pavilion dm1 Notebook PC

Hi,I'm afraid that there is only one supported processor for the laptop. The E-350 one. I have got a DM1 maintenance and service guide and according to this there no other processors except the E-350..

I have to change the internal hard drive of an HP Pavilion Entertainment Dv6000 laptop from 2007. My question is, does the new internal hard drive have to be a specific one or any I might find at the store? In other words are all laptop internal hard drives generic?

Does anyone on the forum have this particular laptop working under Windows 7 (on HP's site, it shows that the only supported OS are XP/2000/Vista (32/64 bit)?

The machine can support a max of 2GB of ram, and is a dual core 1.8Ghz processor.

I will have the laptop in my hands tomorrow to examine in depth...

A:HP Pavilion tx1120us Notebook PC

That likely means those sre the OSes that HP supports. They may not have shipped this model with Win 7, hence no support. The spec you list are ok for 32 bit and nominal for 64 bit. This tool can help if you download on the PC in question: Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - Download - Microsoft Windows

My HP Pavilion dv7-1014ca Entertainment Notebook is running incredibly hot. The fan is on pretty much all the time. The BIOS is fully updated and I've vaccumed the vents and the fan. I keep my laptop on hard, flat surfaces, and yet at times it's almost too hot to touch. the entire bottom section of the notebook will be remarkably hot. Any idea what the problem could be? I've also had moments when my notebook shuts down without any warning for seemingly no reason. Could it be overheating?
