I emailed the customer service at Lenovo about this months back and never heard anything.  Does anyone know if there is a European (UK specifically) charger for the Lenovo Yoga 2 11? Or a converter out there I can use to charge it? All the power adapters I have found specifically say not to use them with laptops.  Any help would be appreciated. Kaitlynn

The Yoga 3 Pro power adapter looks like a normal USB brick, and the cord looks like USB, except with a kink in the connector at the Yoga 3 Pro end. Can I charge my phone or tablet with it?

A:What's with the Yoga 3 Pro power adapter - it's a ...

Yes the Yoga 3 Pro power adapter is a USB charger too!

How does it work?

The special "fool proof" charging cord has two extra pins on the AC adapter end and two extra pins on the Yoga 3 Pro end. The extra pins only make a connection when the fool proof cord is plugged in to the Lenovo charger and the Yoga 3 Pro. When a regular USB cord is plugged into either the charger or the Yoga 3 Pro, it makes a regular USB connection.

Can I charge the Yoga 3 Pro with any USB charger?

No. The Yoga 3 Pro requires 2A at 20V, which is what the provided 40W Lenovo AC adapter supplies.

Can I charge a USB device with the Yoga 3 Pro AC adapter?

Absolutely. In addition to 2A at 20, the Yoga 3 Pro AC adapter supplies 2A at 5.2V (10.4W), enough to charge a phone or tablet. Works for iPad.

Where can I buy spare AC adapters and cords?

AC adapters with cords are sold in the accessories section of the Lenovo store.

Where do I find the part numbers for the AC adapter and cord?

Look for AC Adapters In the PDF Yoga 3 Pro Hardware Maintenance Manual.

What are the USB specs of the Yoga 3 charging port?

It's a USB 2.0 port. It provides enough power to charge an iPhone, but not enough to charge an iPad. If you want to charge an iPad, try the USB 3.0 port on the right of the Yoga 3 Pro.

Hello everyone, I purchased Lenovo Yoga 900 Ideapad and I am currently using it in India. The power adapter seems to have gone bad and I wasn't able to charge the laptop with the given adapter.  Since the laptop is under warranty, I contacted the warranty help line only to know that I need to take the laptop to the service center. At a service center, no one really knew how the USB 3.0 charging port works and couldn't check whether the cable was short or the adapter had gone bad. Anyhow, they decided to replace it under warranty but again, they weren't sure when and if the replacement would arrive (as it depends on the inventory levels with Lenovo India).  An exclusive Lenovo shop then offered me an original Lenovo power adapter with USB 3.0 charging at USD 70 but only when it got delivered, I see that it is 40W and not 65W like the original one I had.  65W adapter - the USB 3.0 connecter (one which connects the laptop) is orange. The wall adapter doesn't heat up while laptop is charging.40W adapter - the USB 3.0 connecter is yellow. The wall adapter heats up quite a lot while the laptop is charging.  The Lenovo store representative has assured me that this is the right adapter but somehow I am not convinced.  Can the community throw some light on this:- Is it safe to use a 40W adapter for a 65W specification?- Is there any way I can get the adapter replaced by Lenovo US (I can ship the faulty adapter to US)?- I... I think there is a short in the power adapter. It gets red hot and only charges when not fully (about halfway) inserted into the wall outlet or power strip. I can hear sparking inside of the power brick when i insert it and a spark flies to or from the outlet to the adapter as the prongs near the receptacle. Not sure but I think this might be a short where the prongs fold into the adapter for travel. I don't transport it much so there isn't a lot of folding in and out in which I could blame the issue on over use. Anybody else have issues with the power adapter shorting? I have not had this computer very long, well since about christmas, what are my chances of Lenovo swapping this out for a new one? I am waiting for a call back after contacting tech support. Thanks for any input....

if you have informed Lenovo under 30 days about this issue then they will most probably give you refund/replacement otherwise they will send it for repair.

Hi, I've just bought an ENVY Notebook 15-as002na from HP's UK website. And, I need a European plug on the end of the 45 W AC power adapter. Problem is, the cable is proprietary HP, it has a right-angled 3-holed plug on the end that slots into the adapter, it completes one corner of this small square adapter. I've spoken and written to HP UK customer service and the spare parts team and they've forwarded me to http://uk.eetgroup.com/. All to no avail. Anyone know how to solve this? Thanks, Kolya

Hi everyone,

Here is my lil story, I've been living in the USA for a year and a half and finally brought my computer back from France, it's a pretty old desktop I made 5 years ago. The thing is, being in the USA, I'm now facing the 110v/220v issue.
I checked the power supply in my computer it only takes 230v, there no 115/230v switch... I'm far from being an electrical specialist and so I am wondering if I can simply install a 110v power supply in my computer. Would it be compatible with the components and the power supply cables in the computer? I'm interested in this solution because I may need to buy a more powerful power supply as I'm thinking of getting a better video card and some more memory.
The other solution I guess would be to buy a voltage convertor like this one right?

Thanks all for your help!
Pierre

A:110v power supply in european made computer?

If the power supply is a standard ATX type, it would be better to replace it with a 110 volt model. Since you are planning to upgrade your video card, you may need a better power supply anyway.

The converter would work, but per the website you linked to, they recommend using a converter that has a power handing capacity 2X what you plan to connect to it; probably the 1000 watt model. $45 plus shipping is close to the price of a power supply.

Hi, since the power of my Y3P with display at max birghtness does not hold very long it would like to build a powerbank for it. Since the Power Adapter is 20V 2A I wonder if I could put 4 x 5V (2A) Power Banks in serial and have 20V and enough amps to fuel the Y3P. I also ordered a cable with the right plug to connect to the Y3P. However it has 3 wires inside. When mesuaring with a meter one is ground and two deliver about 5V. How could that be? How would you wire it to power the Y3P. Does anyone has any idea?PS: I know this is gonna wipe warranty.

This is an issue I have been living with a for long time.  A good percentage of the time (read: most of the time) if I move my laptop while it is open (aka not in sleep mode) the wireless adapter will essentially seize. This means it drops the connection (though it can look like it's still connected) and if I try turning the wireless adapter on and off (or disable/renable through Device Manager)  it freezes the window of whichever option I tried. It seems that leaving it alone for long enough will eventually get the wireless adapter to unfreeze, but restarting the computer entirely (which means a forced reset of the adapter too) also solves it. If I close the laptop and give it a couple minutes to go fully into sleep mode, I can then move the laptop without issue. However this restricts the mobility of such a device quite a bit and makes it a whole lots less laptopy!  I have already tried updating the drivers, but nothing's changed.

Most of the AC adapters available for the Yoga 900 have a terribly short 6 foot cord. I found this 40 W adapter on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Laptop-AC-Adapter-Lenovo-Yoga-IdeaPad-Miix-GX20H34904-Charger-Power-Cord/dp/B... Has anyone tried out this adapter with their Yoga 900? I heard others post that 40 W adapters will overheat with the Yoga 900, though this adapter says it has overheat protection. Another option would be a tip adapter that could convert other 65 W, 20 V Lenovo adapters to the new USB+notch power plug. Does anyone else have a solution, other than using an extension cord with the 6 ft adapter?

I am thinking of buying an X1 Yoga, but am a bit concerned about the lack of ethernet port. I am looking for feedback on the OneLink+ to RJ45 adapter - Lenovo part #4X90K06975. This is the adapter with just the ethernet port - no other ports. I have found some feedback on the docking station, and the adapter with more ports.., but I am interested in the ethernet-only adapter. Does it work well? I've read about a variety of issues with the other adapter and the docking station. one thing that concerns me a bit about the adapter is that the OneLink "plug" looks like it sticks out a lot from the side of the laptop - is it the kind of thing that can easily get dislodged, or broken.., or worse yet.., damage the port in the laptop? This laptop will occasionally be used in a bumpy environment. I see that i also have the option of a USB-Ethernet adapter, but I would rather leave my USB ports free for other devices - connectig to instruments is one of the main jobs for this laptop. Additionally, I assume that the USB-ethernet adapter will need a driver, and i am worried about driver conflicts with the drivers for the instruments. Presumably, the OneLink to RJ45 adapter does not need a driver - is that corect? Thanks for any help

I've had my yoga for almost two years now and recently I've been having two issues: 1. The WiFi adapter will sometimes go out and it won't even show up on the device manager. The only "fix" I've found so far is to shut down and turn the computer back on (usually at least a couple of times) until the adapter starts showing up again. I've gone to the bios to check to see if it's showing up when I run the motherboard test and sometimes the PCI slot that it occupies doesn't even show up. I've been having to use a small USB WiFi adapter when the onboard adapter feels like being particularly uncooperative on certain days. 2. At random times (every few hours or so) when the laptop is just sitting on my desk, I will get an auto rotate notification and the screen will change its orientation, go into tablet mode, and disable the mouse and keyboard. Usually the screen will go back to normal after a few seconds, but the keyboard and mouse will still be disabled and the only way to get them both activated again (as far as I know) is to shut down the laptop and then turn it back on. My guess is that these two problems might be related. The reason why I think so is because I had similar issues a year ago with the WiFi adapter frequently not showing up on the device manager. I had the laptop sent in and it turned out to be an issue with the motherboard, which had to be replaced. So my guess is that there's something wrong with the motherboard again, which is affecting both the... Read more

The tips I got with this Kensington 33197 power adapter have numbers stenciled on them like N3, N5, N19, etc. The tips sold on their web site make no mention of the "N" numbers and have numbers like K20059, K20050, etc. and there is no cross reference.

You can also see a complete reference for "N" numbers to all the laptops they support at the above link. Again, no mention of the numbers Kensington uses on their site.

I need a cross reference for these kinds of numbers.

Kensington referred me to their telephone tech support; but, there is a language or cultural barrier that prevents their understanding what I need.

This is a common problem (I see lots of posts)
The problem source is the [Dell] AC adapter.  PA-21 Family, 65W, P/N: NX061.  It is made in China.
I have an XPS M1330.  Using Dell after warranty service, replaced the Mother Board twice, replaced the battery twice, replaced the AC adapter twice - not fixing it.
Turns out the power warning message is very informative.  It states "Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for best system performance".  So, I plugged in my Dell 95W adapter - WOW Problem Solved.
A lab test of my new Dell 65W AC adapter shows it to be 64.6 watts.  If this unit gets hot (like after several hours of use), it may not put out the full 65 watts - the system may not recognize the adapter, it may power the system ok, but won't charge the battery.
These units burn out after only a few months of use. Their cables are too fragile. If Dell's or their supplier's Quality Control can't produce a reliable 65W product - I found seveal "Made In USA" universal adapters.

Well my solution was simple.
I just removed the battery pack and powered up my notebook. Then I turned off the notebook replaced the battery pack and VOILA. The error message was gone.

I searched for this problem and read everything I could find related to power problems, but nothing I can find refers to this problem: My Yoga 2 Pro will not power up. If I press the power button, the keyboard backlight flashes on and straight back off, about every 5 seconds. The power light flashes at the same time, but nothing else happens. I can't power down either. If the power supply is connected and I hold the power button in to force a hard power-down nothing happens. If the machine is running on battery and I hold the power button in, the flashing stops but as soon as I touch the power button or plug in the power supply, the flashing starts again. So, I can't power up and I can't power down. I can't find any emergency reset hole on my machine, the bottom of my machine does not look the same as the illustration in the other posts which show this. The screen remains black at all times, so I can't access the machine at all. I live outside the USA, but I bought the machine on a recent trip to Florida, so sending it back is problematic. Any suggestions which might help?

A:Yoga 900 - very short power cable

Good day.

A number of folks have commented that they would like a longer reach with the cabling.
What I've personally done is to get a short, inexpensive extension cord that I plug the power block into, and then plug that cord into the wall receptacle. This arrangement mimics, in some ways, the design used on other Lenovo laptops.

Hope this helps a bit.

Does the same thing happen if you hold the Shift key and then do the Shut Down?   Doing so will do a full shut down of Windows.

Here is a good article on resolving wake up issues with Windows.  I suspect you have tried some of them, but the article maybe worth reviewing.

A:Yoga 3 Pro / UNIFUN power bank

Good day and welcome to the community.

The Yoga 3 Pro looks for 20V input, 4x what that power bank can output. Also, the proprietary cable has extra contacts.

There may be power banks that can supply the proper voltage, but I think it unlikely that one has the proprietary receptacle configuration to match the cable.

Hi all,My Yoga with Win10 have two issues: 1. When I turn off the laptop and the display goes off, the computer will "turn off" but not fully - cooling fans continue to running. Hold down the button to turn off after 5 seconds shuts down completely. 2. When using the notebook Batteries so when you turn on the power cable laptop freezes ... when I unplug the power cord notebook unfreezes. Either helps you connect and disconnect cables as long as it starts to work with the attached cable, or restart ... Does anyone have any advice? Thanks jam

Beside that nothing happens. Any clue how to solve this? I've checked the connectors but they look ok. Then I tried to take off the bottom of the laptop, in plugged the battery, and power, then held the power button for 30 seconds.  Then put everything back together.  Still no change.  Any other solutions?

I bought a new Yoga 500 15IBD 2 Months ago and since a view weeks the Laptop had several power breakdowns while in battery mode. All of a sudden the Laptop turns black, all lights and the hdd turns off and I have to connect the power cord to get it started again - although the Battery certainly isn't empty according to the OS-Battery indicators AND often having the Laptop fully charged less than half an hour ago. (The Yoga runs for at least 3 hours if the bug does not appear). Now this is no driver issue, I have the problem while running Windows 10, Linux Mint and Backbox Linux. I suppose it's either a battery issue or a faulty architectual design. Since  I see a lot of similar power-off related messages accross the spectrum of lenovo devices, could someone finally publically explain the source of the problem so there is a chance to get rid of it ... especially in future products?

Hi, I have had my X1 Yoga for about a month.  From the moment I opened the package, the power button has been unresponsive.  I actually thought the laptop was DOA when I first got it but I kept holding to the power button with increasing pressure for almost a minute before the laptop would fire up the first time. EDIT: To clarify, the button does in fact click, but the laptop shows no recognition of the click. Now I rarely ever power down, but when I have, it has been the same story.Recently, the whole power menu has vanished in my Windows 10 interface, so I have no software buttons to power down or reboot the laptop.  I just go to standby or hibernate when I close the lid (on battery and plugged in, respectively). This is not a huge deal to me, but without the software menu and with an unresponsive hardware Power Button, I can't properly reboot or shutdown my computer.  I know I can hit the reset button at the bottom of the laptop, but the whole point is that I would like to occasionally reboot or just shutdown the laptop properly.

Hello everyone!

I recently got my Lenovo yoga 460. I installed the Lenovo Power Management Driver for Windows 10 in hopes of setting the charger to charge when battery is below 40% and stop charging when the battery reaches 90%

However, after successful installation, I could not find any user interface to set such setting. I could clearly see the " Lenovo Power Management Driver " under programs and features. The driver is also installed in C:\DRIVERS\WIN\PMDriver

I noticed that the update date is 5/16/2016. Could this update to blame? What went wrong?

Thank you very much and I really appreciate your help! Have a good day

Hi.

There is one things called "Lenovo Settings" that you need to install on Windows 10. On the power options there is a feature something like "Charge threshold" or something like that... mine is in spanish. Check it out, I'm not 100% sure about it, since it is the first time I noticed it.

Check also the "Lenovo Battery Gauge" on the support site of your model. It is also interesting to see the charge of your battery on the desktop.

I hope this is what you are looking for.

Specs: Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 11.6" HD/Core i7-3689Y/4 GB/128 GB All is fine when the machine is on or in sleep mode. The problems start when it shuts down or goes to some deeper hibernation (whatever happens when the machine has been in sleep mode long enough). Then, the machine won't start up anymore, even if the power is connected. After some googling, we decided to try to disconnect the battery. This didn't help (and there was no BIOS update for this particular model) but while disassembling the machine we found out that when the front panel (power button + power light) motherboard connection was detached, the machine powered up. All was again fine until the machine shut down. So the machine can be jump-started by detaching the cable but either the front panel circuit or connection seems to be broken. Any ideas what to do? The following picture illustrates the issue: ?

Hi andefoo ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

WOuld you have the machine number (check on the machine number from the sticker or check it from here ,just keep your serial number confidential) based on the image that it would look more of a Yoga 11s  instead of yoga11  which have different structure specially with the power board.

WIll it turn on if you use the Novo button instead of the power button? If same non powering issue probable point of failure would be both on power cable and board that needs to be check. You can have it sent for repair or if you have the tools and skill to use the hardware manual  (yoga 11s) for the guide along listed is the FRU number if needed ,

Update us how it would work best for you.

I have a relatively new 700-11isk. I plugged in a micro-usb cable last week and instantly an error in Windows 10 popped up and said that it had a USB power surge. I disconected the cable and reset it. I DID check the cable, and found that near the connector, two internal wires had frayed from wear and were shorted. Now, everytime I turn on my Yoga, and at other random times, I keep getting the USB power surge error, even when nothing is plugged in, and neither the USB 3 or the USB port on the right side work when I plug a device in, BUT they do provide power. Also, the controllers and hub are in device manager, with no error codes or anything. The USB port/Charging port does still work when I plug in a device.  I have done all the recommendations, including turning it off, popping open the case and disconnecting the battery and holding down the power, and I did a full BIOS reset. Unfortunately my Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 Laptop has gone faulty just a month outside my two year warranty.  After being inspected this has come back as being customer fault as it is the centre pin in the power connector that has been bent that has caused the issue.  However Feel that this is a very poor design and that for an item at this price point that it is not fit for purpose.  Also when I was speaking to a work friend they had bought the same item only a few months before me and had the exact same fault.  I have since done done a small search and seen this same issue has been raised on a few forums over the last few years.   I was was hoping to get a view on how common this was and if you have been able to resolve.  If anyone else has had this issue please can you let me know and also how long you had the item before the issue began.  Many thanks

Hi all: This is my first time here and I really need help with this issue. I know that the power port for yoga 900 is a combination AC power / USB 2.0 port. When I bought it I can successfully use that port to read flash drives and charge my phone. Recently it cannot support USB function (cannot read flash drive or charge my phone). I am pretty sure it is not a hardware issue becasue this problem occurred after I adjusted some settings to resolve another problem (the laptop will wake up several minutes after I enter sleep mode). It is likely that some changes I made caused this problem, but I really cannot remember exactly what I did  I tried many options to fix this problem but none of them work. I tried to use device manager and registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTOR) but it didn't help. It seems that the solutions I found online only apply to a standard USB port, not a combination of power and USB port that my Yoga 900 has. This problem bothers me a lot and I really appreciate it if anyone can offer any kind of help. Thank you;

Hi we have a Yoga 3 Notebook 80JH and we are having issues starting it. If left alone for a day or so it may boot up, but due to a failed installation of Windows 10, I would like to restore to factory defaults / image. If I restart or shutdown the notebook, it will NOT power up the screen.  The keyboard backlight *may* light up but nothing appears on the screen. Plugging in an HDMI monitor, the Lenovo windows loading screen shows (spinning circles) but then even that then shows black. This appears to be a common failing with these notebooks. I have googled the issue, and followed various 'tricks' like holding power down for 20 seconds whilst the power cable is out, all to no avail.   What appears to be missing is an explanation as to what is going on. Holding the 'Novo' button down makes the notebook act as if the power button had been pushed, again only showing the lenovo loading screen for a bit on the extra HDMI monitor before showing no signal. Any ideas?

Hi all.

I've tried to poke around with the search key without any results so I apologize if this has been discusesd before.

My father-in-law wants to order XP Pro from these guys:

http://sofnine.info/about.html

He says that it comes with a key and is Europeean OEM software and legitimate. The XP Pro with SP2 is only $50. Normally, I'd dismiss this out of hand but now I'm wondering if it's legit. Have any of you found this stuff to be not only legitimate but legal? Also, he's aware of the fact that MS won't provide tech-support for this particular software but he's prepared to deal with it for himself.

Anyway, I'd just like to save him grief for both his credit card and his computer is this is a bogus or shady supplier.

Any information or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Rome

A:European OEM OS?? Anybody have an opinion??

HI,

My personal opinion (I love these) is that he should not walk away from this deal, but should run as fast as he can from it. Being that Microsoft won't support it should tell him more than he needs to know. The credit card for a foreign company is another warning. There is no U.S. way to prosecute something like this if fraud is the end result on foreign soil. Being mail order on something like this is the third strike and I doubt if he would ever get what is advertised. A foreign copy is something else that is a concern. . RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN FROM THIS ONE.

For the last two weeks, every time I start my Dell INSPIRON E1705 while using the power supply I am greeted with the following message. "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 90W AC adapter or higher for best system operation". I press the F1 Key and everything works fine. I've read about this on other websites and most say it's a design flaw in the power supply after the cord has been properly wound around the supply as designed. Apparently a few of the cords internal wire strands become broken and cause this message. My computer is from June 2006 and shouldn't be having this issue so early...or ever. This seems like a flaw that should have created some type of manufacturers recall since so many people are having this issue. I'm of course out of warranty, will Dell replace this free of charge?

`

A:Power Supply - "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined....."

You are correct, the failure is due toloss of the power supply ID signal. Sometimes this happens because of strain on the plug, which breaks the signal wire. Some even are so severe that the insulation breaks away from the plug; this is due to rough handling. The other cause is one or more of the power socket solder connections to the system board become broken. This also is related to severe handling. I have seen one case where all three power connections and three of four mechanical connections were disconnected. If the power supply is bad, a replacement will cure the problem. If not, then the socket is bad, and this will require a system board replacement. If you are experienced, you can try to resolder the connections. I am experienced and was not able to get my daughter's E6000 to work by resoldered. More recent Dells are using a replacable power connection board which is a much cheaper repair.

I have read on many sites that if I have an Intel graphics chipset on my computer, I can't work around this error which prevents the game from launching after I played a few missions. My Dell computer has an Intel motherboard, but it also has a NVidia RIVA TNT2 graphics card which the game's README file says is certified for the game. Is there a way I can tweak my computer to get the game to run or is there no hope unless I shell out more money for hardware? I don't know if it makes a difference, but I have configured my computer to boot without any startup files.

Pentium IV +800 mHz

Message: When I try to get www.vanityfair.com , Google Chrome automatically reverts me to www.vanityfair.it (I live in Italy). Sometimes reverts to .fr.Sometimes .co.uk (the magazine has online editions in all 3 countries and more). I know there is a U.S. edition online and used to be able to log in to it. Please help--some articles, like on The New Yorker online, you have to pay for to access--but I have no trouble getting The New Yorker, only Vanity Fair U.S.A. and only lately. Any suggestions? Thanks so much.

My clock is now on 24-hour time-- e.g., 9:50 PM shows up as 20:51. This is causing problems for my professional scheduling software, as my appointments are based on there being am and pm slots. Is there any way I can get the clock to display the way it used to display? There is no such option in the control panel. I recently had a bunch of infections cleaned up by Spyware Doctor. I noticed the problem some time after doing that. (I currently have a log posted to Hijack This.)

Any one have any ideas of how to restore the clock to the way it was? The time is correct and it is synchronized to Windows, and the date is correct. Thanks for any help.

A:Clock Became European Style-- No Am, Pm

Try this. Start > Control Panels > Regional and Language Settings > Customize > Time Tab. In the time format field it should have:

h:mm:ss (12 hour time)
h:mm:ss tt (12 hour time with am/pm)
hh:mm:ss (24 hour time)
hh:mm:ss tt (24 hour time with am/pm)

Hi people of the sevenforums. I'm sorry for this being my first post but I'm having a problem that's been giving me an headache for about 4 days now. Well it seems that all of a sudden my computer started showing cyrillic chars (they seem to be russian) in place of letters with special chars like ?, or ?, etc.
This problem is affecting a few programs like bsplayer, quicktime, subtitles, and Team Fortress 2. BSPlayer doesn't even start movies anymore but I don't know if it's related. I've already search on google a lot and did a bunch of things, like editing registry, cleaning it with a regcleaner, installing new MUI and switching between them, scanned with spybot, ESET Smart Security, MalwareBytes... one funny thing that happened to me when I was going to install it was that the part where you choose the installation language appeared in russian with russian selected by default. I also did a search on this site but I found nothing useful.
I've also tried reinstalling the fonts but it did nothing. I uninstalled some windows updates to see if that was the cause but, as expected, it didn't work.
One thing that made me curious was that in the subtitle options of MPC, if I choose ANSI instead of DEFAULT the subtitles show correctly.

Problem examples:
BSPlayer
Subtitles

The text is in Portuguese from Portugal btw.
Thanks of any help provided, if you want me to attach the images instead of putting links, ask.

A:Cyrillic chars instead of Western European

Hi, well allow your windows updater, after that download all the updates, and even after that, you can see in a list all the language you can download. Test that and see if that works

Anyone else in the US showing the month/day/year on their date?
I just noticed this... it may be what everyone else is seeing, but I just noticed it I prefer day/month/year. How do I set it for that?

A:My date (under time) is now showing European?

I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. Do you want to show the date on the notification area as in Europe, 15/01/2011 instead of 1/15/2011:

(My Taskbar is vertically on the left so it might look funny to those used to normal Taskbar, but you get the idea.)

I think your best shot in that case would be to change the format to English (United Kingdom) instead of English (United States) as I have done, then manually change the other formats like currency symbol, digit grouping etc. as I have done to get German formats.

Fresh to Europe, stationed in lovely Germany, my beloved husband plugged his desktop into a European outlet without converting it. Genius, I know. Long story short, I want to get it fixed before he comes home from deployment. Question of the day is, with a power surge like that, which part got fried and, more importantly, can it be replaced without a soldering iron?

A:European outlet fried hubby's PC

It probably blew out the primary side of the powersupply (the part responsible for converting 120v AC or in this case 240v AC to lower voltage DC). If it was a half decent powersupply there should not be any damage to other components. If it was a really cheap powersupply without protection circuitry there may be other damage but hopefully the secondary side of the PSU absorbed it. In either case you definitely need a New powersupply and no this does not require soldering just unscrew the old one and disconnect the connectors and then screw the new one in and reconnect the connectors. It should only involve 4 machine screws and 4-8 power connectors in most systems. If you get a new powersupply I would highly recommend one with Active PFC, this will auto-detect the voltage so you won't have this situation happen again.

Have been doing some casual on-again off-again shopping for a tiny, light notebook for my wife, without having to spend $700+ for an Ultrabook.

I was in Micro Center the other day, and noticed a Dell Inspiron 11 on display at what seemed to be a very good price. Then I noticed that, on the counter where the product description was posted, the sales people had hand written an addition: "EUROPEAN KEYBOARD" (did not specify for which country).

Looking at the keyboard I saw a bunch of piggybacked additional characters in orange on some keys. In Control Panel, the keyboard selected was US English. Did some quick typing in Notepad and did notice anything odd. I took note of the model and left.

When I checked prices online later, their price was about $100 less than elsewhere, even with my employer-sponsored Dell discount applied at the Dell web site.

So I'm wondering: with some keys potentially moved, what are the practical day-to-day implications with Windows, as well as anything else I might have to ruin (I'm thinking live CD's for maintenance or repair: PartEdMagic, Macrium Reflect, other Linux, etc). I'm fearing this might be a show-stopper if something is pre-built for a US keyboard, but having no such experience I'm not really sure.

Hi all,
I've had windows 7 for a while. On two computers, one version is RC and the other is OEM, but both seem to have this strange feature, which I can't say I like.

Basically, when typing in certain applications, such as Pidgin, or Firefox (not consistently, but often) some of my keyboard buttons turn into modifiers instead of simple input.. So when I press the ' button nothing appears, and then, after hitting a, b, c or another vowel or consonant a european looking modified vowel/consonant appears..

Ok so system information: Windows 7 RC and OEM. Keyboard settings - US International. Erm.. system specs, I can't imagine are important or at all relative, but one computer is a presario v3000 laptop, and the other is a custom desktop.

Thanks for considering, let me know if there's any more info to provide =D
Robin

A:European Keyboard Input problem

If this exact thing is happening on 2 different PC's
And you are getting the exact same results on both...

Then it is some program you have installed that is doing it.
Something is maybe changing the language settings or something, or has a hot key set to do so.

That is not a normal function of Win 7, nor a problem with 7 if it is happening on 2 systems with same results.
Start uninstalling apps and see which one is causing the problem.
