Dell 8900 - Graphics Issues in Flight Simulator

Q: Dell 8900 - Graphics Issues in Flight Simulator

I realize that this is not a "Flight Simulator X" forum, but I have a hardware issue somewhere with my Dell 8900 and am trying to figure it out.
Flight Sim is an intense game resources wise, but mainly on the CPU, which in my case is 4.0 Ghz i7-6700 so no issue there, Ram is 16 GB and I just installed (thanks to help from this forum!) a new GTX 960 - all specs are more than enough for Flightsim.
So I am puzzled that in the simulation I am having problems where the "textures" that cover the simulated ground, aircraft, lights, etc. take forever to load - I'll be flying along and suddenly the game will start struggling to load textures in areas of add on scenery (Orbx Pacific Northwest etc.) - everything looks great but then things gradually get blurry, I lose the textures off parts of the plane etc.
I should have a GREAT PC for running FSX, but there is a bottleneck to texture loading somewhere.
I suspect maybe the hard drive - while flying that little blue light on the top of the PC (which I believe indicates the hard drive is working) is blinking almost non-stop - it may be that the hard drive isn't feeding the game it's textures quickly enough?
Also - in case it is a hard drive speed issue - what would be the easiest way to install a new, fast hard drive just for FSX? Would the open PCI-E slot I spotted next to where I mounted my graphics card take a SSD drive? If so, which ones would be of the "plug and play" variety?

Thanks for your help!

A: Dell 8900 - Graphics Issues in Flight Simulator

Flight simulator X is a Vaccuum tube game from over 12 years ago.
You have to RE install DOTNET and Directx June 2010 as well as have a Better GPU. OR you are using a GPU that is now Legacy Status as far as the drivers.
This game was optimized for windows XP and Directx 9.
You have to install Legacy Direct play and DX9 and DX10 drivers from the Directx June 2010 patch.
You download the file and extract to a folder then run DXSETUP.EXE as administrator.
Before previous drivers will work in windows7 or 8 or 10 you have to enable legacy features like DOTNET 2.0 3.5 and Directshow. You must then install DIRECTX JUNE 2010 DRIVERS by downloading the file and extracting into a folder and running DXSETUP.exe.
Directx June 2010 which you download and extract to a FOLDER then run DXsetup.exe as administrator.

in control panel, all control panel items, programs and features, Turn windows features on and off. You have to be ONLINE when you do this because it will insist on downloading from the internet.
Enable dotnet 2.0 3.5
enable legacy direct play
Install Directx June 2010 Patch.
Legacy audio APIs such as DirectSound, DirectShow, and the waveOutXxx functions enable applications to get and set the volume levels of audio streams.
Windows Media Source Filter. This behavior was maintained to ensure backward compatibility with applications that used the Windows Media Player 6.4. New applications should use the newer versions of QASF, which make the WM ASF Reader filter the default filter for playing ASF files.

Hi guysI have been trying to install microsoft flight simulator x since yesterday and I was having errors all the time. (It was giving an error about Simconnect) and after doing some research, I resolved it by installing SDK and Simconnect manually, but now I have another problem...Whenever I click fsx.exe it says "This version of the file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running. Check your system information to determine if you need 32 bit or 64 bit version of the file and contact the publisher of the software"Also, I cannot install Acceleration expansion pack. As I click "setup" it says "Flight Simulator X: Acceleration requires english version of Flight Simulator X" and it quits installation. By the way I already have the english version of the game.I am running Windows 7 Ultimate Edition (x64). I have Nvidia Geforce GTX 260, Intel Core i5 750, 4GB of DDR3 1333 RAMI also use Norton Internet Security 2010I wish I can find a solution here.

I have an XPS8900 with a Dell supplied 750 TI card fitted.  I would like to replace this with an Asus Strix 960 GTX board.  It is longer than existing board and I am not sure if it will fit due to ram slots and some power plugs for HD etc.
Has anyone fitted the type of card to an 8900 and does it physically fit on mboard.

I have a Dell XPS 8900 Special Edition that I purchased a couple months ago. I would like to upgrade the OEM GeForce GTX 745 that it came with to a EVGA GTX 960.I have the Dell XPS 8900 (i7-6700k processor), 32gb memory, 2tb HDD + 32gb m.2 SSD cache, Dell UP2516D monitor, and Windows 10 Pro. I will be adding a second Dell UP2516D monitor soon and later will add an SSD and move the OS and applications to that.
My needs aren't gaming. Primarily I do business applications (MS-Office, including Access and Project), finance and investing, and a lot of photo and video editing.  The photo editing software will use the GPU if I upgrade.
EVGA suggested either of the following, based on what would fit:
These cards are almost identical except;
#1 is 10.1" long, has 2 BIOS, 2 fans, and uses 160 watts for $170
#2 is 6.8" long, has 1 BIOS, 1 fan, and uses 128 watts for $160
I thought I would replace the graphics card myself, but once I opened the case, I wondered if either card will even fit.  I've seen that other people have swapped out their graphics card, so it must be possible.
When I look in my case, the existing graphics card is a single slot.  Both of these cards are dual slot.  Also, it looks like there are some transistors right next to the existing card.  When you install a dual slot card, ... Read more

MY opinion: Best joystick for FSX is the Saitek X52 Pro. Best price will require some shopping around.
I personally get along just fine in FSX with the Logitech Force 3D Pro. Well under $50 at any number of shops...Compusa, BestBuy, Circuit City, Walmart etc.

Recently purchased flight simulator X and initially worked well. When I try to start the program the response I get is program not responding. Somtimes I get a message that it can't be run simultaneously and that it is already running. Another message I get when I start the computer is something in the memory has been illegally moved. Does this sound familiar and what should I try to resolve this??

A:Flight simulator X

More then likely the reason your Flight simulator isnt working correctly is due to a recent update that kinda goofed up the Realtek Audio Controllers. Here is the info at this link If that is the error you are getting at startup run that.

If I am in the wrong place, please let me know where I can go to get some help with my problem.

I have everything I need as far as RAM, HD space, video card, and of course the software. Using Windows XP Pro. I do not have a joystick, so use keyboard. Problem, I just can not make the planes fly or do much of anything they are supposed to do. Is there anyone that can give me some pointers to get me started? I have been working with this since March, just not having any luck. If I could get through a whole flight just one or two times it sure would help. I have tried following the instructions in the little book, also printed out a manual, tried doing the flight with I think it is instructor training, just am getting nowhere.

Although I've found that the startup routine can find the FS CD even when it is in the wrong drive, do be sure you have placed it in the same drive you installed it from, if you have more than one.

If you have WinXP also check the Administrative Tools > Event viewer log for errors. You may find something either under System or Applications.

Each time I get to the point where I want to make the change by saving it I get a notification that I am being DENIED. No reason is given. I am signed in as the Administrator but that doesn't help. This detracts from the Simulator as you cannot change the paint jobs of the planes from the default color. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?I would sure appreciate any suggestions. Hello Flight Simulater will not run under windows XP as it is bringing up a message saying

Software 3D Enabled (In the title bar)

Safe mode has been enabled because your system is currently unable to use hardware acceleration. While in Safe mode, you will be able to run Flight Simulator and troubleshoot hardware issues, but performance and display quality will be affected. Product Support safe mode. For more information, see the Readme, Which is available from the flight simulator link in windows start menu.

Then a OK Button is displaed

The Graphics card is a Nvidia graphics card.
It did work on windows 98 then i upgraded to windows XP And that is when the message keeped appearing i have tryed to reinstall flight simulator and that did not work and i have tryed to adjust the graphic settings in the game it self but that has not worked. So any idears?

HI everyone... This is my first post on the site, so please feel free to provide any hints that will help me fit in and be a productive member.

Now my question... I recentley purchased the subject game and after installation, I get a message that tells me my video configuration is not supported (or something like that, it's been a while since I tried it). The recommendation was to install the latest drivers for the graphics card. Well I've done all that and still no joy.

Now don't laugh... my system is a Dell XPS R400 P2, 400mhz. I have an ATI Radeon 7500 64mb AGP graphics card and 384mb SDRAM installed. The card is rated AGP 4X and according to the system requirements on the box, my system should work. I also have the latest chip drivers for the mobo (had to do that when I installed the graphics card)

I already have CFS 1 and 2 and they work just fine (probably irrelavent). Any help would be appreciated.

I recently bought and installed the Flight Simulator X Acceleration Pack in my laptop, but when I play it I have a poor performance, such as low FPS and chopped gameplay, so I have weather, scenary and traffic in very low, but for the resolution it is the same for my computer to use a low one (1024 x ....) than the higher one (1280 x ....). Does anybody know how I can fix it? My laptop has the following specification:

Acer Aspire 5715Z
OS: Windows Vista 32 bit with DirectX 10,
Processor: Intel Pentium dual-core T2370 (1.73 GHz, 533 MHz FSB, 1 MB L2 Cache),
250 BG HDD,
Video Card: 358 MB Mobile Intel Graphic Media Accelerator X3100,
Chipset: Mobile Intel (R) 965 Express Chipset Family,
Controller Version: 7.15.0010.1666,

I am not sure if it is because it uses a lot of CPU resources, or if it is because of the processor or the Video Card. I have other games as Age of Empires 3 and it has a high performance, even if guns are firing!

I use FSX since 2006. I had no problem until few months ago. I had at the time Window 7. The program started occasionnaly
shutting down while being in flight. The situation worsened in frequency when I switched to Window 10 up to a point the program shuts down on almost every flights. I thought for a moment that one of the loading DVD had become defective but it is not
the case cause I dowloaded the one of friend and the problem arose almost immediately.
Can someone help me? I am wondering if the problem could be a sudden overheating of the video card due to its malfunction

(defect). Your suggestions will be welcomed.

Hello, How are you?

I would like to buy a Saitek ST290 or Saitek Evo Wireless for Flight Simulator X. Anybody knows or have experience with these sticks?
I know that one of the best stick for Flight is X52 but I have no money to buy one of that, because here in Brazil, it cost converting to US$, more or less, about US$ 1.020,00 or R$ 1.899,00. It is so expensive for us.
So, I am thinking to buy these ones that I wrote before.

Hello all

I had problems installing this program until I downloaded new drivers... then it worked fine.

I have purchased the Pro Flight Yoke System and I don't have a clue what to do with all of these controls.
I mean is there a model to follow how most flight sim junkies program these controls?
In addition...
Is it just me or is every rookie 'white knuckled' attempting to control this simulator with the yoke?
My fingers are numb after I fly a mission... and sometimes lucky enough to land.

Also, getting to know where I am in relation to the runway is another frustration, let alone landing.

Sure to be not alone in the beginning attempts at a new diversion.

On another note--In speaking with a PC tech today he mentioned that Microsoft is scrapping Vista.
Too many problems.
I don't like it. In my opion XP was much better.

If Microsoft does let it go, does anyone think they will send the new program to all duped Vista users?

Thanks for reading my thoughts.

I have seen a number of these complaints on several forums. I have cleaned out every instance of the program from my cpu but it still won't re-install. I even downloaded windows installer and re-installed it. But nothing has worked so far. What is happening? Can anyone tell me how to fix? I installed the program the first time and everything worked "great". humm just a guess but was it installed under administrative account?
with other accounts permited to use it.. because that "run as" is asking what account you wish to run it with..

Sounds like a windows setting some place.. I don't know where, but some one here will.

Edit: also check the properties of the short cut is the "target" right? does it point to the right location and exe file?..
just some things to check..

Horrible Lag in Flight Simulator FS9

I've been on PROPS Racing at WestCoastATC for close to a year now with no problems.
This is online flying of P-51 Mustangs where 10-15 pilots follow a pace plane over a course
and then we dive to the track to race around several pylons.

For some reason, for the past 3 weeks, in every session I now have this horrible lag.
The game itself never lags, just the other players.

When following the pace plan as well as observing other players, the plans appear and
disappear, then reappear in different places as though I pause for a second at a time.
I've always enjoyed a flawless game except for one fellow who is on dial-up and he shows
lag to the rest of us all the time.

It doesn't effect my frame rates, which if I set to unlimited I get
about 150 fps. My connection speed is 3,000 kbps. My upload is about 300 kbps.

AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+ 2.2 GHz 1024MB Ram
Radeon 9800 Pro

I switched cable modems, same thing. I switched Ethernet cards, same thing. I
uninstalled FS9 and reinstalled in new directory-new location
on my hard drive. Checked for spyware with several different
programs, checked for viruses with several different programs.
Clean as a whistle. Defragged, cleaned up and polished everything
I can think of. Same thing, horrible lag.

How can this be? Horrible lag on a very fast computer with a great
connection? It's not the server because everyone else can see e... Read more

I installed Microsoft Flight Simulator X (GOLD Edition with Accelerator) yesterday, and have been running it. It runs well on my dual Intel 200 GHz processors and 4 GB of memory.

However, the Weather function does not work. I can set the 'User Defined Weather' but when I run the flight, it has no effect. All I ever get are blue skies but I want to shoot instrument (IFR) approaches.

Is there something special that I need to do to make the Weather function work?
Does it work on other versions of Vista? (I have the Vista Home Premium 64bit version)

I have been running Combat Flight Simulator 2 on my Windows 8 computer for at least a year. The program worked fine with no problems. About a week ago, I ran into a problem wherein the program would not run. I tried opening the program directly in its file
from C:/Program Files (x86). In all of these cases, the program would not start. The computer processor light came on as if it were processing the information, but nothing happened. The start screen did not show.
I had changed nothing about the computer since the last time it worked!! I have tried reinstalling from the disks, without success. The installation and uninstallation appear to run perfectly, but the program still will not start.

As the topic suggests I had a BSOD running FSX probably due to my overclock not perfectly stable yet.

What I would like to know is how likely it is that a BSOD leave some corrupt files behind? Reason I ask is I have an image of my system partition and also a complete backup of my FSX folder which is on another disk so I could restore both the system image and the copy of the FSX folder but I did install some other programs after doing the backups and before getting this BSOD so I would rather not restore those copies unless it's highly likely it might have left some corrupt files behind.

Anyone in here knows how good Windows 7 is in this regard and how big the risk for corrupt files is after a BSOD?

A:Had a BSOD with MS Flight Simulator X running

Well does the pc have a read/write light? If it does try to remember if it was on or blinking before BSOD. I am not a BSOD expert so you should go and ask someone else. But before you go, I have one suggestion. Try chkdsk
Disk Check But backup before this because all files within a bad sector will get deleted. But keep the old backup in case something goes wrong. Worst case scenario, the hard drive is damaged and needs a replacement.

For many years I had FSX installed on my only hard drive. I recently bought a second internal hard drive, and tried to "move" the game onto that one by uninstalling it from the original.

I had some problems with not being able to uninstall it correctly, so I deleted most of the files manually, and then ran a registry repair. But I still can't seem to install it. I insert the install disk, but the only two options I have are "repair" and "remove".

Clicking "repair", it runs for a few seconds, and then it says:

Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.

So, I tried "remove". Again, a few seconds, then:

Error 1316. A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\Microsoft Flight Simulator X.msi

What do I need to do so that when I put in the install disk, it allows me to do a full install onto the new hard drive?

A:Re-installing flight simulator with XP Home?

if you have the install disc and serial number try uninstalling fsx from add/remove programs in control panel, then reinstall, you might also have to remove the folder from your "C" drive.(program files)

Hello everyone I'm new to the forum here but am an active member of the flight simulator community, just for fact I speak French, English and Spanish.

Anyway I have been looking for solutions to the most annoying problem you can have in gaming; stuttering and CTD's.

When I go onto Flight Simulator 2004 it all seems to run fine at startup and then it'll run jerkily while on a flight. On the ground there doesn't seem to be much problem but once in the air the simulator will begin to stutter like crazy. A hiccup about every 5-7 seconds which is very annoying. FS2004 is running at 60FPS for me constantly and it doesn't drop below that but when panning and having the aircraft move you can see the stutters clearly.

The other thing is that when I close FS I get this Windows Error Reporting message that states that my simulator has just crashed. I've tried reinstalling the simulator about twice now and it does not fix the problem.

It states is as an APPCRASH and it says the FAULT MODULE to be STACKHASHd9d3d something. I searched the file on my system and nothing popped up. Looked for information online and nothing appeared as well on StackHash. The crash happens after I exit the sim.

Here is my current system, it seems very top notch for Flight Simulator:

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium x64
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 @ 3.16GHz ~ 3.80GHz/400MHz x 9.5 Mult

Sometimes, in the flying lessons, the instructor talks way too fast (uncomprehensible) or way too slow (*very* annoying). The other sounds such as engine noise seem fine.

I tried the suggestion on the MS site to disable hardware acceleration with the dxdiag utility, but that only made things worse. The instructors voice is completely uncomprehensible on this setting.

Hi all,I just bought flight sim x deluxe, and had a hard time of installing it,so i thought i would share.after a couple(about 100) of attempts i found the only working solution.

this only applies to windows vista 64 bit, with the error:1628

go to start > computer > your drive > program files > common files
look for a folder called installshield and rename it to installshield1
close the window
then try to reinstall it again(this is where i got stuck)
you will still get the error

dont panic, all you did was force windows to download a brand new copy of windows installer 4.5(which you cannot manually install)
if you go back to your common file folder you will see 2 instances of the installer(dont delete either of them)
the 2nd time you try it to install it,it works like a charm

Hi, I am a new Techguy member, and I just found this site and I found an error I can't figure out myself, and I need some help.

I just bought "World Airports" about a few months ago, and I wanted to test it out. I tried to install FS2002, but it says:

Setup was unable to locate a valid installation of FS2002 from the Windows Registry.
This product requires FS2002 to run.
You will need to browse the FS2002 folder manually.

I cleaned my registry 3 times and deleted the folders permanently and I just can't seem to find the problem.

Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT: It's not a ripped version, it's a CD-ROM version I just bought not that long ago.
