Hi,

When launching my Microsoft Surface 3 with Windows 10, I get a blue screen as below;

Your PC/Device needs to be repaired

The Boot Configuration Data file doesn't contain valid information for an operating system.

You'll need to use recovery tools. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your PC administrator or PC/Device manufacturer.

If I hold the volume down key on boot up, I can get into some sort of setting screen where I have set the below settings;

A:The Boot Configuration Data file doesn't contain valid information...

Hi to BleepingComputer

Access the Command Prompt like you did before and try the following:

- Type Bootrec /RebuildBcd, and then press ENTER.
If the Bootrec.exe tool runs successfully, it presents you with an installation path of a Windows directory.
To add the entry to the BCD store, type Yes. A confirmation message appears that indicates the entry was added successfully.
If the Bootrec.exe tool cannot locate any missing Windows installations, you must remove the BCD store, and then you must re-create it.
To do this, type the following commands in bold in the order which they are presented:
- Bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
- ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
- Bootrec /rebuildbcd

Not sure if this is the correct forum, please forgive me if I've posted it in the wrong forum.

Hi folks I?m a newbie to the forum and would really require some assistance, I?ve owned PC?s for a considerable time and I am pretty flummoxed with a problem I?ve encountered. I haven?t a clue how this occurred and for the life of me cannot seem to recover my PC. I have used various approaches on your forum to hopefully correct this issue but to no avail.

When booting from disk I get the message the file

I used the helpful guide ?How to Fix Windows When it fails to Boot? on this form and ran the following: Initially running system repair

The computer scans itself during this phase and looks for windows installations it returns the message no windows installations found. When I view the Diagnose and repair details I get the following:

No OS files found on disk
Repair Action: Partition table repair
Result: Failed error code 0X490

I have ran the repair process 3 times and booted between each repair

I progress beyond this and run the following:

Bootrec.exe /Fixmbr runs successfully
Bootrec.exe /Fixboot runs successfully
Bootrec.exe /RebuildBCD runs and returns successfully scanned windows installations

Hello, I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, and if there have been threads about this issue before, but I've searched for a while and could not find a solution that I could understand from reading, as I am a newbie. Whenever I start up my computer, it shows this:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1.) Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2.) Choose your languange settings, and then click "Next."
3.) Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
File: \Boot\BCD
Status: 0xc0000098
Info: The Windows Boot Configuration Data file does not contain a valid OS entry.
The computer runs windows 7 and is an Acer Iconia Tab W500, so it's a hybrid tablet and laptop and did not come with an installation disc, nor does it have a disc drive due to its size. I can't access the window that pops up with F8, the only screen that can appear is the F2 screen.
I'm fine with completely restoring the computer to factory settings, or pretty much anything that will get the device working again. The problem is, I can't figure out how to either repair the file or restore. I'm really sorry if this is really confusing or if I didn't provide enough information, I don't have any experience with computers, but any advice on how to fix it?

A:Windows Boot Configuration Data File does not contain a valid OS entry

Do you have a Windows 7 Repair Disk?
Do you have, or can you borrow, a Windows 7 installation DVD (Same version as yours)?

If you follow the instructions in that message using either disk the chances are good that you can repair the problem.

If you can't get your hands on a DVD, then when turn your computer on - tap on the F8 Key as soon as it comes on. When the black screen with options appear, select "Repair your computer." When you see the option, perform a Startup Repair.

If startup repair fails then select the last option which allows you to access a command prompt. You might want to enter these commands at the prompt:

bootrec.exe /fixboot
bootrec.exe /fixmbr
bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd

A:windows boot configuration data file does not contain a valid OS entry

If you ran Factory Recovery it apparently failed. Had you asked first we could have helped you work through the steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot. Now there is likely nothing to repair, although you can try Startup Repair after marking Win7 or its boot partition Active.

What I would do now is get and maintain a superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 . Everything needed is in the blue link.

If it fails to install, reset BIOS to defaults: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

While in BIOS setup set SATA controller to AHCI to try install. If that fails try IDE mode.

If install still fails try wiping the HD from the installer's Command Line using Diskpart Clean Command

Report back results as there will be more steps if necessary.

I am on Windows 8. My Lenovo laptop constantly has a "Limited Connection" when trying to connect to internet. Other computers/devices connect fine to this network.

I ran the built in diagnostic and get "Wifi doesn't have valid IP configuration - Not Fixed"

I've tried ipconfig /release => no errors
then...... ipconfig /renew => and I get "...unable to contact DHCP server.."

I then tried resetting TCP/IP
`netsh int ip reset resettcpip.txt` =>
resetting interface, ok!
resetting neighbor, ok!
resetting path, ok!
resetting , failed.
access is denied

What should I try next?
Please Help!

A:Wifi doesn't have valid IP configuration

Can you connect successfully by ethernet?

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If your only email accounts are free (Hotmail, gmail, etc.) try this direct link. If you need help with a screen shot see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Identify your network if it is not obvious.

Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I know this question seems to come out a lot but I can't seem to fix it. I am a college student and my internet has worked 100% fine until I went home this weekend and came back. It worked this weekend when I brought my computer home and when I came back today it gives me this error when I try to troubleshoot. The only thing that could have changed is when I went home I set my DNS to be openDNS because it makes a huge difference there, but I changed it back when I got here. I don't know if that would matter, but unplugging and restarting are doing nothing.

Any thoughts on how I can get my network to work?

Edit: It may be worth noting that I am running a free version of AVG and all of my windows firewalls are disabled. I am running some software the school makes us install but it has never been a problem for over a month.

A:Windows 7: Lan doesn't have a valid IP configuration.

Hello trinric
I would first get rid of AVG free. It used to be a good program but I have had to delete it in order to fix a lot of computers this past year. In some computers that was the only problem. Once deleted the computer worked fine. Also you should never be without a firewall. With that said What browser are you using?

I have been having this problem intermittently for some time. I can be connected at home to my wireless network fine and then something happens and i get 'wireless doesn't have a valid IP configuration'. Sometimes if i plug into the network (wired) the wireless will be fine again and sometimes (like now) not. I've tried disabling bonjour, 0ing the dhcpbroadcastflag, disabling the ipv6, resetting the adapter, rebooting, etc etc etc.

After working happily for some time both PCs in house can't access iNet via LAN. Message says Router has no IP address and this is confirmed when I IPCONFIG/ALL in dos prompt.

Originally I assumed it might be a conflict between the win 7 machine and the one running Vista. So I upgraded nasty Vista machine to Windows 7.

Bizarely the wreless on the router has always worked and my worl Win 7 laptop runs happily as do various wifi smart phones, Xboxes and tablets in the house. Also working from cable both XBox360 and sky box downstairs.

Set up is

Kitchen/Diner: TPLINK 200MBPS Plug cable to Win 7 Dell PC.

Upstairs: TPLINK 200MBPS Plug cable to other Win 7 PC.

-----
Other cables and router to outbuildings via TPLINK 200MBPS Plug and cables currently disabled

Using Windows Diagnostics trys to fix but says "305 Network doesn't have a valid IP configuration."
I can ping IP from laptop but not from PC.
I have tried IPCONIG/RENEW

Stopped and restarted DHCP Client in services.

Out of ideas. HELPPLEASE

Have you tried power cycling the modem/router combo plus all TP-Link devices.
First with everything unplugged for at least 30 seconds, start by powering up the modem/router first giving it a few minutes to boot up, then plugging in the TP-Link devices.
What is the model of the TP-Link? TP-PA210 or 211
Can you post the ipconfig /all in this thread.

I have a Dell Intel Pentium Desktop and a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7; the router is a Netgear RangeMax Wireless-N 150. Until 8/17/11 I was able to make wireless/wired connection with my laptop, I can make connection with desktop with no problem. When I run troubleshooter I'm informed that "Wireless doesn't have a valid ip configuration", or "connection between router access point, router cable, internet modem broken". Connection also defaults to "Unidentified network" instead of my home network. I have reset my laptop, desktop, cable modem, router; device manager informs me that all hardware is working properly also, I updated firmware, and verified the most recent drivers installed. Connection has been setup since July 2010 and I have experienced no problem up until now. If someone could assist me and help to to fix this problem I would really appreciate it

A:Wireless doesn't have valid ip configuration

Welcome to the forum taradenise!

Sorry to hear you are having problems!

It is obvious from this image that you are not connecting to the router at all... the IP showing is an autoconfig IP starting with 169.254.xxx.xxx. So, your issue is probably with the router.

Since all was working fine earlier, I am willing to bet that on or around 8/17/11 you had power outtage, you unplugged, or moved your router. ???

If unplugged for a period of time, many routers will reset to factory defaults.

If you send me the same image from the desktop, along with the model and make of your router, I should be able to help you get this back up easily!

Hello,

I have a brand new PC workstation.

Everything was fine, until recently, when I turn on my PC, I don't get an immediate internet connection. This is happening nearly everytime now with some frequency.

I reset the router/modem and everything is fine after that, so all is good.

But it is still frustrating. I get, "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration".

I googled this and it appears I am certainly not alone.

The following to assist you are screenshots of my 'ipconfig' and 'Network Connection Status' before (unsuccessful) and after (successful) internet access:

You will see from the above that there is certainly something different with the data...

I'm sure it is something so simple.

Incidentally, I did find a nice youtube 'tutorial' in relation to this subject title about manually configurating the settings:

I haven't tried this yet and that is probably down to the fact that I can't find my alternate DNS server setting (the very last box to fill in - watch the video and you will know what I mean) ???

Many thanks for reading, please help me.

Hey guys, little problem here. I just bought my wife a new laptop with Windows 7 on it. When I first got a hold of it, I proceeded to remove all the HP bloatware that was installed. I went to Add/Remove programs and uninstalled everything that had HP beside it.

Next, I tried to have the laptop connect to my wireless router (DLINK DI-524). It found my network, but only with limited connectivity. I ran the troubleshooter and it reported back that the wireless network connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration.

I then connected my internet cable directly to the laptop and I get the same message, except it says "local area connection .......".

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the network adapter, but to no avail. Any other suggestions from you guys? I know it's probably something glaringly obvious that I am just overlooking...

Quick facts
1. Internet works on my desktop.
2. Desktop has Windows Vista.
3. Internet will not connect on laptop directly or through router.
4. I have reset/rolled back/reinstalled/uninstalled everything network card related.
5. At first I uninstalled all HP bloatware on laptop

A:Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration.

You could always try using a static IP address

Firstly Open "control panel" click on "network and sharing center"

Click on "local area connection (1)" then follow the image clicking through to (5)
Once at 5 enter your IP address .... this will depend on what address your network is running on (I'm hoping that you know this already) I've given an example. If you router is set to eg 192.168.0.1 then you will need to enter this into the "default gateway" and "preferred DNS (6)" (I've marked the last number with an "X" as this could differ) When you enter your IP address just change the last number to anything between say 10 - 20 eg. 192.168.0.10

Do the same for your Wireless connection but change the 10 to maybe 11 ( eg 192.168.0.11)

Hello,

I'm about 4 hours deep into trying to fix this. I've followed several forum posts with similar issues, with no luck.

I've been running windows 10 on my PC with my current hardware (including modem/router) for about a year now with no issues. Yesterday I booted up and had no internet access. The error was something to do with "sockets". I ran the netsh socket reset command, which simply changed the error to my current invalid IP configuration error.

So here's my current state:

I'm typing this from a laptop I dug out of storage. On this laptop I have internet access both through ethernet and the on-board wifi adapter.

On my PC, the ethernet connection is through my motherboard (adapter: Interl Ethernet Connection I218-V), and I have a separate wifi card (adapter: Qualcomm Atheros AR938x). Whether connected with ethernet or wifi, the connection status is:

IPv4 Connectivity: No Network Access
IPv6 Connectivity: No Internet Access

All items in the properties list are checked, including the IPV4/IPv6 items. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling both the ethernet and wifi adapters. I'm reinstalling from the latest Intel driver installer (PROWinx64).

I've tried the various netconfig commands. If I call "ipconfig /release" I get:

"An error occurred while releasing interface Ethernet 2: An address has not yet been associated with the network endpoint".

Here is my ipconfig /all

I've tried a dozen other things, but I don't want to convo... Read more

Yesterday my windows 10 laptop stopped connecting to the internet. I have tried many fixes so far but haven't been able to come up with a solution.

Internet troubleshooting shows: "Wi-Fi doesn't have a valid IP configuration"
Internet connection displays: No Internet, secured
Internet is also working fine on other devices.
I have tried netsh winsock reset and checked that IP is being obtained automatically.

I am also attaching the troubleshooting report. Any help is appreciated been trying to fix this for a while.

I've had my modem connected straight to my computer via ethernet cable and never really had any problems. I recently downloaded itunes to listen music on my ipod and i know this probably isn't the problem but weeks later i was prompted to download an update for itunes and of course I clicked restart after update but start up computer and internet did not work. It was this "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration." I've tried resetting the modem and nothing. It is worth noting that I reformatted to see if it would fix it but nothing. but once i connect my modem directly to my laptop it works perfectly fine. I also including attachments so i could possibly be better assisted. Also worth noting my motherboard is a Asus crosshair formula IV which unfortunately doesn't have updated windows 8 drivers but never gave me problems before. the ipconfig with black background is the laptop ipconfig.

When i tryed to share Internet connection Windows 7 gave me an error:
"Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration
but files were shared and i could transfer files from one computer to the other... (only Internet didnt work)...
So i got back to win XP and tried to share connection ( XP vs XP ) and it worked great...
Then i thought: maybe windows 7 and windows XP cant share internet connection... and i installed windows 7 on the old computer (win7 vs win7)...
But then both computers came up with the same error ("Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration).

I tried winXP on the new comp and windows 7 on the old... and it worked great!!!
I figured out thet something is wrong with windows 7 on my new computer and i did a clean installation 3 times and the same error came up...

I tried all this things and nothing worked:

1)Disable/enable NIC
2)Install latest drivers for my NIC
3)Roll back the drivers
4)cmd -> ipconfig /refresh /release
5)Disabled ip v6
6) netsh winsock reset catalog
7)tried to manually enter IP

Not advisable to be posting that .txt online. It has your specific hardware info in it that can be abused by hackers. Especially because you connect directly to internet.

Try setting up static ip addresses for your machines and disable the mode/router's DHCP server.

Edit hosts file for each machine accordingly.

I turned on my Lenovo laptop today after not having used it for about a week. It proceeded to do over 38,000 updates. I have no idea what they were all about. But when I finally logged in I was not able to connect to the Internet although I had an excellent connection to my router. Both my iPhone and my iPad are successfully connected to the same router right not so I don't think there is an issue with my router itself. I've tried all the suggestions I've seen in this venue and in others but nothing works. Can someone please help! There was also a message about an IP address conflict - that there was another device with the same IP address. I have no idea what this means or how to resolve it.

A:Connection doesn't have valid IP configuration

Wow, 38,000 updates? Were these from MS or Lenovo? I'm guessing here but I'd wager that most were from Lenovo and are really just silly updates that allow them to track you around the internet so they can target you for certain ads...

The IP address conflict isn't much of a problem, all it means is that there are two or more devices that have been assigned the same IP. The fact you get the warning tells us that you are connected to the router.

If you're connected by wire: Click 'Start', type in CMD. A window will open on the desktop. Type in 'ipconfig /release' without the quotes and with a space between. Then type 'ipconfig /renew'. Then check your internet connection.

I've been working on this for over two hours now. I have wifi on laptop. In Windows 10 I can't access internet on PC with Ethernet. On the same computer I have a Linux Mint partition and ethernet connection is fine there 160Mbps. I've unplugged (several times) modem and router. I've disabled and reenabled ethernet. I've turned off the PC and restarted. I've done all the Ipconfig commands, however "release" doesn't work as there is no media detected. About two weeks ago my ISP upgraded their modem to a 150Mbps. Since then I have been using Linux so this is the first time I've booted to W10. It worked fine before. Right now I'm waiting for a tech sevice call back from my provider to see if they can sort it out; thought I'd try here also.
TIA, Allan

It's likely that your machine with the new installation requires a visit to the Windows Update Center in order to install the latest updates which will most likely fix the wireless connection problem.

You really need to connect the first time using a wired connection so as to obtain the updates from Windows.

I'm having an issue with ipconfig /release

I have uploaded a screenshot with the error I am getting, any help appreciated

A:Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration

Ipconfig /release, only drops the connection. It has nothing else to do with networking. Really need more information. What ISP do you have? What router or Gateway are you using? It appears from your screenshot that you are able to connect to the Gateway/Router. So what is your real problem? Not able to go to any websites? Is the connection dropping on the Router/Gateway, or at the ISP side.

So... I just updated from win 7 to win 10, as I got it for free. All went smoothly, but there was no ethernet connection. I'm running a custom built pc, connected to my router via ethernet cable.

At first windows detected the cable, but said: ''Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration." I was on about around the settings, and deleted the ethernet network from windows' settings. I thought it would come back by just re-plugging the cable. This didn't happen. What happened was, that the whole 'Ethernet' tab disappeared from the 'Network & internet' menu!

I also don't have 'Wi-fi' or 'Airplane mode' tabs in the menu... Well I have a pc that doesn't have support for wifi so that might be why...

Does anyone have a clue on how to get win 10 to detect the ethernet cable, and maybe that way bring back the 'ethernet' tab?

Oh, and I tested the ethernet cable on my laptop (running win 7), and it worked fine.
Thanks in advance!

Try rebooting your router. Also maybe doing a reset on the router.

Hi,

I have a relatively new HP Envy (H8-1485ea), with no modifications made, running windows 8. I have had the been using it with a wired connection at university with no problems and on return home connected wirelessly. Initially I encountered no issues, however after about 2 days the status of the connection went to limited and has remained that way since.

On running the windows troubleshooter it stated that the "wifi doesn't have a valid ip configuration".

I searched this forum and found the suggestion to run the commands which resolved similar problems:
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ip reset rest.log hit

However as shown in the attached image for the second command resetting failed. I am not sure if this is where I am going wrong or if there is another issue.

I have also attached my ip configuration.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem would be much appreciated, Thanks.

A:wifi doesn't have a valid ip configuration (Limited)

Do you have anything else connecting to the router that actually works (either wired or wirelessly)?
Have you tried power cycling the modem and the router?
Have you tried an ipconfig /release and then an ipconfig /renew after power cycling both?

Hello

I have a problem that drives me crazy. Randomly, my wifi disconnects many times a day (Limitted conectivity or ), sometimes every 5 minutes. I solve the problem temporarly by:
1.)Running the Troubleshoot of the wifi connection, and it resets the adapter automatically( and at the end of the troubleshotting it says: "WiFi doesnt Have a valid IP configuration, or sometimes The default gateway is not available")
2.)Sometimes the Troubleshooter cant reset the adapter, and I have to do it manually.

By reseting the adapter, the problem is solved only temporarly, because I have to do that mayby 20 times a day, sometimes more, sometimes less.

I use Windows 8 on Asus K55 VJ , Intel Centrino 2230 adapter with up to date driver.

PLEASE, PLEASE help me, the laptop is new, its sold as a Windows 8 engine, and its really embarrassing that I have this problem...

Here are some print screens that can help you

A:WiFi doesn't have a valid IP configuration on Windows8

For default gateway problems try typing in the gateway "192.168.10.1" into the IPv4 properties of the wireless network adaptor.

Sometimes windows has problems picking up the gateway from certain routers which is usually just a hardware compatibility problem.

The link below explains the process.

Hello. I have the Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration problem which I've googled and discovered is common and well known, i.e., make sure the adapter is set to obtain the IP automatically, and if that fails update the drivers.

However... I need help getting the drivers installed. I don't know where to get them from, or where to install them to.

The computer that is not connecting either via ethernet or wifi is an Acer laptop running Win 10. I have a Lenovo running 8.1 that does connect, thus I must use the Lenovo to get the drivers, then transfer them to the Acer and install them.

Can someone please tell me how to do this? Where do I get the driver files (specifically, how do I know which files I want) and then how to install them once I've transferred them to the Acer?

Thank you

A:Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration ... newb question

Provide make and model for the Acer laptop, so we can look up the network interfaces. Also might be nice to let us know if you're using wired Ethernet or WiFi on the Acer machine. If you can provide that info, we can get you headed in the right direction. HTH,
--Ed--

PS: I keep an el cheapo StarTech USB 3.0 to GbE adapter around (Newegg: $22) for when NICs go south. You can plug it into most PCs (the drivers load automatically) and use a fast, simple, wired Internet connection to fix a machine that's having problems with its built-in network interfaces quickly and easily. In these days of Windows 10, I use it at least once a month!

Guys, I really need your help.

I got a new laptop a couple days ago. It was for work so I brought it to the office. We have an open network in the office, you just need to plug into it with a regular cable. We've had it for years and it always worked. Not this time.

When I'd first plugged it, it came online, but the connection had been lost in a couple minutes. When nothing obvious worked, I tried to diagnose and got the infamous "Local Area Connection doesn't have valid IP configuration" error. I've been googling it ever since, trying to do everything possible to fix this.

The network adapter is Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller.

I've tried using different cable, restarting the router, all the ipconfig stuff, resetting winstock etc. I've formatted the hard drive and installed Win 7 from scratch. I've checked the BIOS - it only has one LAN-related setting and it's enabled. I've been to Realtek website and downloaded their latest drivers. The latest one is from Jan

Finally I've seen a few thread suggesting that this whole issue is router-related. So I brought the laptop home to try it there without any router in the way. It was pretty much the same - got connection, working for half a minute, gone. Diagnosing got me the same error. I've tried disabling ipV6 and playing with adapter configuration, but it didn't change much.

Nothing. Sometimes diagnosing makes the laptop recognise the network, but it's only for a short time.

Hi,
I have a hp desktop with windows 7 that was getting internet from an old ibook g4. Basically there was an ethernet cable connecting them that gave the ibook's internet to the hp, because the hp doesn't have a wireless card. It was working for a couple months but now the hp is not getting internet and when I try to diagnose the connection or whatever it says "Local area connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration". I don't think its a problem with the ibook because the ibook is still getting internet.
I don't know why this happened but when I looked on the system restore menu it said before it stopped working there was two critical updates. Also around that time the computer was shut down wrong or something and I had to run startup repair or maybe system restore (I don't remember which one). The only things I've tried to fix it were doing a ipconfig / flushdns and then doing a system restore to before both of the updates. None of those things worked, though.
If anyone knows how to fix it or if I should post more information please let me know. Thanks.

I?m having intermittent network/internet problems on my dsl wired ethernet connection. Sometimes the internet works fine. Other times the internet is really slow or the network says unidentified network. I run the troubleshooter and it resets the local area connection adapter, giving the error that LAC didn?t have a valid IP configuration. But this fix doesn't seem to last more than a day or so.

Also, downloads with windows firewall and/or zonealarm firewall on fail or are interrupted, but not when firewall is turned off.

I?ve tried a clean install of Windows. Reinstalled drivers. Reset the modem. I tried ipconfig /renew. Nothing seems to work.

From what I can see in the ipconfig you are showing incorrect DNS server IP's for the wireless connection.

It also doesn't show the manufacture of the wireless adaptor so something isn't right with the adaptor that is showing up under Microsoft Virtual WiFi miniport which should only be used for sharing a wireless connection. In fact it almost looks like you are trying to share a connection here or something. Nothing with this connection is right.

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, kaspersky or Mcafee or any free security suites like zonealarm, AVG , Webroot etc

lets see the following please

Earlier everything was fine, but it happened right after a power outage due to really bad snow weather. I mean outside is bad. I can't do any browsing on my computer or anything and this is the only computer I have. I'm posting this thread using my iPhone. I do have a wireless router but I don't have a wireless card in my PC, and my router is wired to the modem. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium Anytime Upgrade 32-bit x86. I can't post the CMD results from my computer on here, so I would need to type manually, but I'm not sure what info someone needs to know to provide me support. Thank you!

A few days ago I arrived to Germany to a study for a semester. In the house where I'm staying there's a modem with a Lan Cable that I'm supposed to use. I plugged it the day I arrived and I notices I had no Internet connection. After running a few diagnoses the system told me that "Local Area network" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. I don't know why this message appears and why can't I connect to the Internet. I've checked so many forums and I'm starting to believe there's no solution to my problem.
I've checked that the IP is in automatic configuration and I've also tried to connect with other modems what I obtain the same result....
PLEASE HELP ME, I will fail all my courses without Internet

A:Local Area Network doesn't have a valid IP configuration

You might need to power down the laptop, then power off the modem. Keep the modem powered off for about 30 seconds then power it back on. let the lights cycle through until you see connectivity on the modem, then (After plugging the ethernet cable into the LAN slot) power the laptop back on.

If it still doesn't work, you may want to check for Antivirus/Security software/Static Ips.

One afternoon my laptop decided to have "an initentified network" after having no problems previously with our dsl router. I am working from my functional desktop computer, so I will not be able to download any new drivers, etc. on the dysfunctional laptop since obviously I have no internet connection on it. After going through your forums and trying a couple of things to no avail, I did do the ipconfig/all, copied it on a usb and moved it over here. Here it is, I hope you can help. Thanks! Buffy624 Note: Also it looks like something weird is there for my DNS servers??? If that's the case, how would I change that in the little black box area of cmd.exe without messing anything seriously up. PS - also in going through the forums, I removed Bonjour since it was recommended in some of the answers - will that be a problem?

Recently, I can't connect to the internet. when I tried to troubleshoot the problem, it gave me the following line :
"Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration"
I have two PCs and when I connect the mothem/router to the second PC, everything is okay and internet is on (So I am sure the problem is not from the modem/router and it is from windows)

I searched many forums and websites and tried many solutions but none of them helped me.

these are the solutions that I tried :

-
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

-
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ip reset reset.log

- repairing windows

- uninstalling any security softwares like firewall and antivirus

- disabling/enabling or uninstalling/installing the network hardware from device manager

- using another network card and another network cable

- uninstall the Bonjour sevice

here is the two screenshots of using ipconfig /all, ipconfig /release & ipconfig /renew commands :

If you havn't done so yet you should reset the router and go through the routers set up page making sure that all settings are correct. As it stands you aren't getting a thing from the router. Try a different eithernet cable also please.

Routers can behave like this and do so on a regular basis, they can give out an IP to one machine and not the next for unknown reasons, happens all the time.

This also needs to be done just to eliminate the possibility that it's not a simple router problem which is the most likely cause.

Just to make sure I get it right: you are saying that you can connect to the router wireless, but if you plug an Ethernet cable to the back of the router and your computer - it doesn't work?

Would you post the same screenshots as the last two, but with your wireless connection?

Hi all,

I came here off word of mouth and I am going to donate immediately after I get some help!

I'm having a lot of trouble. One of my computers is getting the "local area connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration" error from troubleshooting my network. My network is an "Unidentified Network" with NO NETWORK or INTERNET ACCESS. This happened ever since I installed a new modem. The modem is WORKING with all other computers. My NIC card for the computer that is not connecting, is also working since I tested it on another modem. I had to call the ISP to activate the new modem. I spoke with them and they said nothing is blocked on their end.

So I've narrowed it down to my computer since there is no hardware issue. I connect by LAN, FYI. I've tried new cables, etc. My computer has no "BONJOUR" in it nor does it have any firewalls set up, just Windows Security Essentials.

I noticed in my IPCONFIG /ALL that no IP shows up for my default gateway (should be 192.168.0.1). DHCP is enabled. I tried static IP as well to no avail.

I've attached a screenshot of my IPCONFIG /ALL. I've tried literally everything that I could think of. I've called Time Warner and I've checked every forum. This forum had the smartest people on it, so I wanted to give a shot posting here.

I would be so grateful if anyone could help me. Thank you so much.

what should i do?

A:local area connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration

Open Device Manager and see if any areas (Network Adapter or Unknown Devices) has a yellow mark by it.

When you say you re-install the network adapters, do you mean you downloaded and installed the driver?

What is the make and model number of your computer.
Laptop or Desktop?
How do you normally connect to the internet?

Hello there dear friends.

I just registered to your forum searching for help to a very persistent and annoying problem i have been facing.

While my internet works fine, many times a day (every day) the connection will fail and a yellow exclamation pyramid will appear at my connection status. When i perform a troubleshoot at my connection the problem is recognized as Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration and the problem is immediately repaired.

Now as you understand this is a very annoying problem because i am unable to perform many internet functions demanding time as downloading a file or playing an online game because i will drop every once and a while. I noticed that many people have been facing this problem but they couldent connect at all in the internet, as you understand my problem differs because i can connect to the internet but i get dropped every once and a while.

I am using a wireless router: airties rt-205
my laptops network card is a realtek rtl8191se
and i am using windows 7 home premium 32bit.

Before you ask i have already updated my networks card and routers drivers to the latest ones.

I beg you masterminds of windows 7 forums please help me solve this very annoying problem thats killing all the fun of my internet.

(ps if you need the details of the troubleshoot report just let me know)

A:Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration

Hi BlitzGreek, welcome to the forums

My next door neighbour had the same issues but it turned out to be a fault with the router. You could try 1 thing...Turn the router off, press and hold the reset button (found on the back of the router) for 5-10 seconds then power on again.

   Note
This will completely reset the router to factory settings without reverting to previous firmware. It can take up to 2 minutes for the connection to be fully restored.

   Information
ISP's tend to send router updates up the line but this can cause connectivity issues

Hope it helps

First, connecting to someone else's wifi is both illegal and makes you vulnerable to malware.

If it is secured and yours you should know the logon, if you dont it not yours to use.

Please run the following and upload snapshots of the output

start>cmd>right click and run as admin>ipconfig /all

A:Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration

How are you setting up your laptop to share internet with the desktop? Ad-hoc? If so it would only be a temporary setup and more than likely your desktop will drop off when you restart laptop/desktop.

From the ipconfig, you're desktop's ipv4 is 169.254.71.63(Preferred). No good!
Desktop also does not see gateway.

Try this on your desktop ipv4 setting (set up manual IP not dhcp):

Address===> 192.168.0.10
Mask====> 255.255.255.0
Gateway=====> 192.168.0.254
DNS =====> 87.244.194.90
217.119.113.245

(not sure why the gateway has that ip but if your laptop works should be good)

I get the error "Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration in Windows 7.This is my desktop computer and is a direct connect to my broadband modem. All of my wireless connections are working. I have had Comcast out and there is no problem with the modem. This started on Jan 3, 16. My laptop connected to the modem wirelessly on Dec 25, 15 and works fine (except that it has that awful Windows 10 but that's another story). My wireless printer was installed in Feb and is working fine but does show an error - A router/access point channel conflict has been detected. The Comcast tech could not find that problem since the printer is working.
I have read similar problems and suggestions and tried many of the including ipconfig/renew but it failed. I tried 'netsh int ip reset reset.log' and it failed. I also tried to manually put in the ip addresses with no luck. Any suggestions to solve this problem will be greatly appreciated.
By the way, the problem started right after I installed WebRoot on my laptop. I uninstalled it but that didn't help. I know that it is probably just a coincident but wanted to mention it.

A:Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration

Sounds like webroot did some optimisations, do you have a restore point prior to its installation if so use it.

Netsh winsock reset
Reset router/modem
Reinstall network adapter Realtek PCIe GBE family controller 2
Windows troubleshooting
Disable/reenable network adapter
Restarting computer multiple times
Using google public dns servers

A:wireless network connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration

The ipconfig looks mostly ok to me although it appears that you have a DNS of 4.2.2.2 typed into the IPv4 settings window, it might be best to remove that entry from IPv4 and then type the DNS servers you want to use into your routers set up page instead, where ever it says DNS servers type in the two you want to use for example Google's DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 .

In the Network and Sharing Center> Manage Wireless Connections, the profile for this connection should be using WPA2 with AES encryption, the same settings should be showing up in your routers set up page. After that please post the ipconfig/all again. If you can check that out first it would be most helpful.

I was recently on my Laptop ( Dell Inspiron 1545 Windows 7 Home premium ), connected to the internet fine, then suddenly I just lost connection, when trying to re connect to the router I get the following message - "Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration"

The network is showing as an unidentified network?

There is also a desktop PC connected to fine to the router.

I have read pretty much every forum on the internet and still have had no luck.

Things I have already done :

- Removed the network profile
- Flushed DNS cache successfully
-Restared the DHCP services ( disabled, enabled, and restarted)
- Restarted the Bonjour service
- Disabled both windows firewall, and Commodo firewall
- Disabled, re enabled my wireless card, both with the function key, and through device manager
- Turned of my router for minutes numerous times.

I have done pretty much everything I can think of, I really don't want to resort to reinstalling windows.

A:Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration"

you dont mentionned trying this:

-open a command windows ("win"key+"r"key, type "cmd" then hit enter)

- in the black window that appear, type "ipconfig /release"(without the quotes)

-when its done, type "ipconfig /renew"(without the quotes)

if this dont work try restarting both your modem and router and try again.

Hi, I'm having a problem setting up my router. Whenever I connect my router to my modem, I get the error "Local Area Connection 2 doesn't have a valid IP Configuration."

How can I fix this?

This error goes away when I connect just my modem to my computer.

I know the router isn't broken, and I'm sure I have all the cables plugged in correctly.

Router Model: Netgear WNR2000

OS: Windows 7

Thanks for any help!

I've been trying to fix this for a week now!

A:Router Help! Local Area Connection Doesn't Have a Valid IP Configuration.

The following procedure should get you a connection with any broadband modem that is configured to use DHCP for the router connection, such as cable modems, and many DSL modems. If you require PPPoE configuration for the DSL modem, that will have to be configured to match the ISP requirements.

Note that the wireless encryption and channel selection will have to be done after the basic wired connection is established, the first step is to get wired connections working.

Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
Turn off everything, the modem, router, computer.
Connect the modem to the router's WAN/Internet port.
Connect the computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.
Turn on the modem, wait for a steady connect light.
Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
Boot the computer.

When the computer is completely booted, let's see this.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous command output!

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

Two days ago one of my laptops stopped accessing the internet even though it connects to the wireless router (BT Homehub3). Other laptops, Iphones, Xboxes etc still work fine on the same network.

Running Diagnose Connection Problems produces the following error message Wireless network connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration

Running the BT Homehub set up utility it connects to the hub but it fails to set up wireless connection saying that the wireless key is incorrect or there is another problem. It then suggests a wired connection which fails to connect (tried different ethernet cables and ports)

After googling for solutions I have tried the following suggestions without success

ipconfig /all

and the successfully pinging the resulting IP address, default gateway & DNS server

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

After the renew prompt the following message appeared: unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out.

In services.msc I disabled and restarted DHCP Client

I have also tried

netsh int ip reset reset.log

netsh winsock reset catalog

as suggested elsewhere on this forum, again without success.

I thought I had cracked it when I found a Microsoft Fix-it-for-me tool (MSfixit50199) but it made no difference.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

The computer with the issues was just brought back from college and can't get any internet connection. It connects to the signal just fine, but there is no internet and when I run the diagnostics the problem of the wireless network connection does not have a valid IP address pops up. And it also says there is a problem with wireless adapter or access point. My only guess is that something is blocking it but i can't tell what. Everything else connects fine and gets internet. Juse the one desktop using the wireless adapter will not get internet. Here is the ipconfig /all results. Any helps is appreciated thanks.

I am pretty sure, from the searches on Google, that this is an infamous and difficult or easy problem in many cases to solve. In my case, it is difficult and I appeal help without being directed to Google!

The problem lies with wired networking. I am using my sister's HP touchscreen which conveniently has a wireless card built in it. The ipconfig /all will be displayed below this post. I have a Comcast Modem connected to a WRT54GX Linksys router. The router plugs into the wall, which goes to I believe another router or access point, in my parent's closet, (it has numerous amounts of Ethernet wires that I believe connects to every single wired plug in the house) further evidence is if I unplug the access point/router in my parent's closet, the LED for the wired port of the router connected to the modem ceases. I can confirm that directly connecting the computer to the router (not connecting to the wall) gives me internet access.

Can anyone give me clues or instructions to work with this? All computers cannot connect to the internet via wired connection. This problem also started when wired connected internet started to slow down drastically(the LED was blinking dimly and turns off every few seconds for wired connection), and I reset the router and modem. I also unplugged the access point/router in the closet for one night because I felt it was overheating and the LED wired connection is strong with no blinks but no internet access.

A:Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration

When you are connected via ethernet cable and you get a 169.254.xxx.xxx IP address, you have no connection to the network. Basically Windows will attempt to get an IP address from the network (the router assigns the IP addresses) and if it doesn't get one, it will make one up. Those made up addresses will always be 169.254.xxx.xxx.

There are some possible causes: the ethernet cable is broken (easy to check, just swap it out), the MAC address on your NIC has been blocked (this is something you'd have to ask your school's IT department about), your NIC card is failing (the card could be going out, one of the wires on the connector could be bent/mangled), Windows somehow got the NIC drivers screwed up (uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling the drivers may help).

Hi guys, I've got a bit of a problem here. See, sometimes the router has too many devices connected to it and the other people living with me don't understand this so they keep their iPhones, iPads, laptops, et cetera connected via WiFi even though I tell them to turn off the WiFi setting when they're not using it. So it kicks me off constantly, not sure why, but I don't mind too much.
Basically when I'm "connected" but not really connected I remotely reset the router so I don't have to walk upstairs all the time.

Anyway, I've reset it without troubles before. But did it tonight and now it's completely screwed up. I run a windows diagnostics test and it comes up with:
"Wireless network connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration."

Now I've been searching the internet from my iPhone to find solutions all night and came across this thread:
http://forums.techguy.org/networking/1019884-solved-wireless-network-connection-doesnt.html

I've tried doing the things suggested in there but it's not really working too well. Here's my ipconfig /all

Yes, another one of these. I have read through many of these threads, doing as suggested, but without resolution.

All computers can connect to an "Unnamed Network" showing as public. Computers can access others on the network and the Windows 7 computers, if manually connected, can see the others in the Homegroup. But none can access the internet.

Connecting a Windows 7 laptop directly to the modem can get to the internet.

The laptop can see and connect to both the (non-broadcasting) SSID and guest network and can see neighbor's wifi. But still can't connect to the internet.

Computers are set to automatically obtain IP and DNS. TCP/IP stack repair commands were run successfully on the Windows 7 machines. DNS Client, Network Location Awareness and RPC are all running.

None of the machines can reach or ping the router at 192.168.1.1.

This started with two computers on Tuesday evening. Then two more on Wednesday afternoon. Then the rest on Wednesday evening.

Router, modem, switches, computers have all been hard reset several times.

The following computer was built from scratch with Windows 7 and has only ever had AVG antivirus.

So I built a PC recently, using Powerline for Internet access. At first the PC wouldn't connect to the Internet so I moved the wireless router and the Powerline plug into another room and plugged them directly into the wall socket (previously they were plugged into an extension lead). I got Internet access on my PC, but 2 laptops and another PC were having trouble connecting to the Internet using Wi-Fi. When I moved the router and Powerline plug back to their original place, my PC wouldn't connect again (all other computers could) and I got the "Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration" error from the network troubleshooting tool.

So it's either I'm the only one that does get Internet when I move the router, or I'm the only one that doesn't get Internet when the router's in its normal place.

Here's my ipconfig /all results from my PC that won't connect:

you are doing actually doing two different things as far as i can make - is this correct

Move Powerline from an extension lead and it works - This is because some powerline adapters will not work on an extension lead - so thats (1) and

(2) moving the router is reducing the wireless signal

so you need to find a way to keep the router where it is and not use an extension lead- maybe a longer ethernet cable

from the wireless pcs can we see an xirrus screen shot - when its working OK and again when it is not - just in case its interference

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

Hi. So I came back to my desktop after a weekend away, and all of a sudden my wired network has changed to "Unidentified Network" with no network access. I have never had a single problem with this before and I've tried several fixes that do not do a thing. I live in a dorm and am plugged directly into the wall. I also use a switch to use an Xbox One. I have tried plugging the PC directly into the wall instead of the switch to no avail. I've also turned everything off multiple times. Here is my ipconfig information
I'm not sure if this matters, but I feel I should mention that both my IPv4 and IPv6 Connectivity display "No network access"

I just got my internet hooked up in my new apartment yesterday, and it is not working when plugged directly into my laptop. It worked fine on the installer's laptop, though.
A buddy of mine let me borrow his wireless router and the wireless works fine with that, although if I try to connect wired through it, that does not work either.

It says I'm connected to an unidentified public network and I get the above error when I try to connect. I've tried disabling IPv6, restarting both the modem and my laptop, and updating the ethernet driver, which I could not find (HP dv2715nr is my model and I have windows 7 ultimate).

Below is my ipconfig with the modem plugged in and the wireless turned off. Hope this is enough info and thanks for any help!

Hello all. I'm running Windows 7 professional on an HP 4320s probook. I recently uninstalled some of the HP programs because I never used them (sorry can't remember which) and now I cant connect to the internet. I get the error message in the thread's title.
I've tried ipconfig/release and the fix that has netsh ip textlog in it and i've also disabled the IP helper. None of these have worked. I looked for webroot in services.msc but couldnt find it so i don't think that's the problem either.
Any ideas?

Hi everyone I've run into a problem that I really don't understand and I was hoping somebody here could help me.

First a little background so you can understand the situation. My set up is that I live in a two story house and have my cable modem and a D-Link ethernet switch in my den on the ground floor. I connect to the internet via this switch, and the switch also leads upstairs to the bedrooms, where we have a D-Link wireless router. This wireless router then provides internet to all of the bedrooms (with their laptops and Ipads) upstairs, my Xbox and another computer. My computer downstairs has no wireless card so I have to access the net via a wired connection with this one.

Now everything was fine and all my devices, whether wired or wireless had access to the internet until one day, my computer in the den could NOT access the internet. I've tried all the suggestions I've seen on forums and nothing would work. I even tried moving my den computer upstairs and plugged it into the router, and it would work! I tried moving multiple laptops downstairs as well to see if it was just the computer and they also were not be able to access the internet via wired connection through the switch.
What WOULD work sometimes is if I restarted and reset the cable modem, then sometimes my downstairs internet would work. However, if the downstairs computer's internet would work, then the devices who rely on the wireless router to connect to the internet would then be unable to do so. ... Read more

Hello,

The problem is that your PC in the den isnt obtaining an IP address from the DHCP server which will be on the router.

Try setting up the PC with a static IP address to see if it resolves the problem.

So here is my story.
For the last few months my desktop was working fine. Today morning by mistake i switched electricity off during my desktop shutdown. Later then i started my computer I saw many services like DHCP client, Windows firewall, base filtering engine and some others doesn't start with error code ACCESS DENIED.
After reading few articles and microsoft recomendations I found the reason of this error. I added permission into the registry to these services for SERVICE AND NETWORK SERVICE users. After that all services begin work fine.

But I still cannot connect to the internet. After running troubleshooting i receive and error message.
"Local area connection 2" doesn't have a valid ip configuration.

It looks like something happened with registry setting or permission which doesn't allow to work network services in proper way.

May I have some help please.

Hey ho everyone. I have a common problem that I have seen a lot of people have. I'm posting on here because I don't really know a lot about networks, but here's my story. My dad has a computer with Windows XP on it, but it is running very slow and needs to be replaced. The computer is wired to a ATT modem that has a router (both wired and wireless) in it. The internet does work with a ethernet cable plugged in on the WinXP OS, however I will mention. So he bought a new hard drive and a new version of Windows 7. He unplugged the XP hard drive and only had the new (Win 7) drive plugged in. I ran the instillation process with the cable still plugged in, never changed a thing. Once Win7 was finalized, no ethernet internet connection. We run a diagnostics and I get the error message posted in the subject. We have switched back to the WinXP hard drive and the internet is working just fine. We also formatted the Win7 hard drive and ran a new install and got the same result. Here is a little bit about my system.

OS Version: Windows 7 Service Pack 1
Processor: Intel Core 2 1.87GH
RAM: 6GB
Graphics Card: Nvidia Gforce 9600 GT
Hard Drive: 1TB Western Digital
Motherboard: ASUS P5NSLI
Antivirus: None

Now I did a lot of researching last night and found a lot of posted processes. None of them worked, but a few of them gave me odd responses. I am going to copy and paste some of the processes that I have read from here.

Can you post a screenshot of your ipconfig /all output?

Or try this:

Copy and paste these lines in Note pad.

attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
shutdown -r -t 1

Save as flush.bat to your desktop. Right click on the flush.bat file to run it as Administrator.

Your computer will reboot itself.

Dear Tenforums users,

I have recently encountered some problems wth my relatively new Lenovo IdeaPad laptop;
whenever I try to connect to the internet using ethernet it tells me that "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration"

I have the Realtek PCIe GBE family controller as my ethernet device.

I have browsed the internet about it and tried to update the ethernet driver via device manager. However, even after doing that, nothing has changed. I am currently using Wifi, but at my work location the connection via WLAN is very... bad.

I hardly have any knowledge about drivers and BIOS and stuff. I hope that anyone amongst you is able and willing to help me out in this matter!

I sincerely thank you all for your time!

I have a laptop running Vista. Using an ethernet connection to our office network, normal internet connectivity works perfectly. Then I connect to a VPN, and I am able to access resources there as expected. When I disconnect from the VPN, the status of the local area network is "local only", and the internet is inaccessible. If I view the status of the local area connection and click "Diagnose", I get a message that the connection does not have a "valid IP configuration". Choosing to automatically fix it takes a few seconds and then full connectivity is restored.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this so these extra steps aren't required every time I disconnect from a VPN?

A:Network connection doesn't have "valid IP configuration" after disconnecting from VPN

This is probably an issue with the VPN client. Normally, when you disconnect from the VPN connection, normal networking will return.

I remember reading that many people had issues in the past with the Nvidia NICs and were disabling them in favor of PCI add-in NICs. If you don't have one to try, it shouldn't be hard finding a friend with plenty of them. It's worth a shot, if you have access to one.

Is your laptop running Windows 7? If not, it is possible (rare, but possible) that the router isn't compatible with Windows 7.

Okay, so here is my problem. I frequently bring my laptop to work where the is a public wireless signal. I work at a hospital. There is a secure network but I don't have the password for it, so I use the public one. Up until recently I used an old asus with vista, and while the signal was pretty low I had no problem connecting to it and staying connected. Just meant slow internet for me. However, that computer has sadly died and I bought a samsung NP700Z5B-S01UB. And while it's a very nice machine, I cant seem to connect to the network here. It shows that there is a low wireless signal, but it still wont let me connect. The error it gives me is "wireless network connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. Is there anything I can do with the computer to fix this problem, since I cannot do anything to the wireless network at all (as it is a network associated with the hospital). If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

A:"wireless network connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration

Hello mystic, and welcome to Sevenforums!

First, do you have the latest driver installed for it? I don't know what version of windows you have so here is the general link to the drivers: Samsung - you will need the wireless driver(s). Uninstall your current wireless driver before installing the new one, which means you will need to download the new one first or use a LAN cable to have an internet connection to download the driver.

Here is an internet troubleshooting guide you might be able to use: Internet Troubleshooting Guide

However, it sounds like this computer works at home, just not at the hospitol, so it may be some kind of incompatability or any number of reasons. Make sure you have all windows updates installed as that can sometimes help such issues.

Howdy folks. Just moved back onto campus for the year and already running into some problems. I'm able to connect to the wireless internet in my dorm just fine, but it's just god awful, so I've always used a wired connection. When I try that now though, it always comes up as "Unidentified Network" with no internet connection. Through troubleshooting, it eventually states that "Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP Configuration. I cannot figure this out for the life of me. Things I've tried:

Using a different wall jack
Using a different cable
Uninstalling drivers for the ethernet adapter, then reinstalling (no issue in device manager)
Flushing dns
Winsock reset
ipconfig /release and /renew
Disabling/re-enabling adapter (after each thing I've tried)

I read somewhere to ping the addresses 127.0.0.1 and 192.168.1.1. The former returned normal results, <1 ms, whereas the latter returned a "General Failure." I really need to get this fixed...it took me well over a half hour just to register for this site because the wireless here is so insanely slow. Attached is the screenshots for my ipconfig /all. Thanks!
