Pavilion x2 fails to charge.

Q: Pavilion x2 fails to charge.

Recently my Pavilion 10-n000na x2 has refused to charge when the device is powered on. When I attach the charger to the USB-c port the LED indicator light stays white and does not turn orange (charging) and the power indicator in windows task bar shows battery power only and no AC power. When the device is powered down and plugged in it does appear to charge, albeit with increasing reluctance. Occasionally when attaching the power cord when the system is running I will get a windows device popup advising the the USB device I have just attached could not be recognised. This device is still under warranty and both the device and powere cord seem to be in good condition. I am unable to contact HP support as they are only available during hours when I am at work.

I have had my laptop for just over a year, and so far it hasn't had any problems except I had to reinstall windows. The problem is that it now won't recharge at all, it stays at 63%, I have checked all the plugs and they all seem to work, I unplugged it and it recognised that the recharger is not plugged in. The problem is that it won't charge, It says plugged in and not charging. Does anybody have any ideas of what could be the problem or the solution?

thanks in advance

My HP pavilion does not take charging after 80% and sometimes the charging light starts blinking. It shows plugged in , not charging.

A:My HP pavilion 15 notebook does not charge after 81%

Have you tried a battery diagnostic either in the UEFI diagnostics (F2 as you power on) or in the HP Support Assistant running from Windows? Stopping at 81% seems like it may be a dead power cell in the battery. Can we have the full model number of the laptop and an idea how old the battery is? Original?

A:HP pavilion 15-n270sa won't charge

The SMART chip inside the battery is like other electronics...it can fail for no apparent reason. You have a dead, dead battery that needs replacement. Are you under warranty?

My  HP Pavilion x360 will only charge when the lid is closed or the computer is in sleep mode. I have tried changing any relevant power settings and have already consulted multiple friends. I'm wondering if there's a hidden setting I have yet to discover The HP assistant check said the battery is OK.  I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10 some time ago not sure if there is a link to the problem I saw a thread for the fix for the Windows 8.1 but sure if that will work for Windows 10 tried a few of the videos on you tube  about uninstalling  drivers but they did not help. any clues please

After updating BIOS to latest version (1.2.13), the battery only charges to 60 percent and then it stops.
- cable is connected and bios shows status as OK.
- if I disconnect and let the battery discharge below 50% the charging will kick in once I reconnect but will only charge until 60%
- tried changing battery modes in BIOS settings - standard / adaptive / express charge but regardless of which mode I choose charging seems to stop at 60%.
- behavior seems to be independent of OS as charging won't pass 60% even if laptop is turned off
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I installed a new battery today and the guy in the store said it wouldn't be fully charged. My computer booted up fine but they I got a warning that the battery was at 14%. I had the power cord plugged in so it should started charging but it didin't. I got my neighbors computer, similar model and I put my battery in his and it started charging so then I plugged in my power cord and it is still charging. So I know my battery is good and my power cable is good because they both work on his computer so there is something wrong with the connection where I plug it in or somewhere else in the computer. When you plug the power cord in the LED should light up but there is no light. Any ideas of anything I can check or do I have to take it in for repair?

Still nothing.  My laptop is one of the B&O line with a non-removable battery. Do I need to claim on the warranty and replace or is there an easy fix? ThanksWill

A:Hp Pavilion dv4 strange issue, not taking charge

The power jack connector on laptops are soldered (internally) to the motherboard. If the solder connection should break, power can't be delivered (internally) to power the battery or run the computer.

You might try it yourself (see here) if you're comfortable doing so or you'll need to take it to a repair shop

HI There,Ever since I upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 my HP Pavilion x360 has been a complete wreck. Including charging and sound issues. I've been able to resolve the sound issue by using device manager and uninstalling the drivers entirely. I have done the same for the charging problem but to no avail-restart after restart it refuses to charge. This 2-in-1 tablet/pc was purchased about a year ago. And has only had problems since the upgrade. I do not feel comfortable removing the battery as the batter on this particular model is actually enclosed in the casing. As I mentioned I've uninstalled the battery drivers from device managers a few times. Is there:1. A way to get the battery to take a charge without removing it (i.e. troubleshooting site)2. A way to roll they OS all the way back to Windows 7? I've tried rolling it back a few versions but I'm still in Windows 10. Thanks for your help!

So my laptop has two LED lights, one in the front and one near the plug-in for the charger. Before it would charge perfectly and both lights turned on, then my charger broke and my grandmother got me a charger. This charger worked perfectly but the near-plug-in-LED light stopped turning on. Only the front one was turning on, but aside from that everything seemed just fine. My laptop requires a 120w Charger and the charger she gave me was of 65w. I didn't know this until about a week ago since suddenly during gameplays it would just randomly stop charging after about 5 minutes into a video game or after maybe 2 hours of just browsing and stuff. I went to a place to get it checked  and they told me it was because of the charger, etc etc. Now I bought a new charger and it's still the same, it charges (even though the battery icon says it's on 84% and doesn't move from there) but it suddenly just stops charging after a while again. The problem with it not charging is that my laptop gets extremely laggy and only lasts about 1 minute before it shuts down.Is it the battery? Please tell me there's another solution... Batteries are expensive. The reason I added so much detail to this question is because I don't want to leave anything out. Thanks

My HP pavilion dv7 laptop charger won't stay connected long enough to charge. The light flickers on and off like their is a loose connection within the charger port. The charger is fairly new so I don't think that is the problem.

When the power button is pressed, the power button lights up white, the fan comes on, and the red light across the front of the machine lights up. The light for the hard drive (stack of 3 CDs) comes on for a few seconds and then goes off. No signal is ever sent to the monitor. There are no error code beeps. The machine then powers down and tries to boot again after a few seconds. Sometimes the computer randomly boots successfully, and when it does, everything runs normally (no error messages, no lagging, no stalls or crashes). I have tried plugging the machine into a different outlet, but that seems to have no effect. I have also tried unplugging all unnecessary components, and this has no effect. I've scanned the computer and there are no viruses. I have not installed anything recently, therefore I suspect this is a hardware issue. I would run a hardware diagnostic, but I'm afraid if I shut down the machine ? which is currently operational ? I will not be able to get it to start again. Is there anything that can be done to assess what is causing the issue? Product: Pavilion HPE h8-1360tOS: Windows 7, 64 bit

I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 15 Notebook and issues with creating Recovery discs. Here is a link from Microsoft on creating USB recovery flash drive. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. The IE10 Windows update initially installed successfully on my HP Pavilion dv6 (dv6t) Notebook PC.
However, I uninstalled IE10 because a key web application I used was not supported with IE10.
This application is now supported with IE10 so I attempted to reinstall the IE10 Windows Update.
The installation fails as shown here in the Windows Update History log detail:

Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems
Installation date: ‎7/‎30/‎2013 3:31 PM
Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 9C55
Update type: Optional

This is the exact issue/scenario discribed here:
I have an issue with re-installing internet explorer 10. - Microsoft Community

I also attempted to install IE10 manually (using IE10-Windows6.1-x64-en-us.exe) but this failed as well.
The reference article from the manual installation attempt is this one:

Internet Explorer 10 does not install on some hybrid graphics systems

But this would seem not to apply since 1) IE10 initially installed successfully, and 2) my laptop is configured with Intel HD Graphics 3000 (not the AMD cards referenced in kb/2823483).

The CBS.zip is attached. Any remedies, pointers, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I have a HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC (Product Number F6C70PA#ABG), and since I have upgraded to Windows 10 (current version 10.0.14393) last year I have had nothing but trouble with it. 1) First, when I use the shutdown option in the power menu, the notebook will not turn off; the screen goes black but the fans continue to run, and the Wireless Antenna light goes orange but does not turn off. The power button in the top left also stays lit. The only way to turn the device off properly is to hold the power button down for 5 seconds. 2) But even when I turn the power off by holding down the power button, I have recently discovered that the notebook is still draining power. If it is turned off, and the AC power removed, the battery is completely drained when I next come to try and turn it on. This is despite the fans not running while the power is turned off in this fashion. 3) Also recently, when booted up the notebook takes an excessively long time. After approximately 2-3 minutes from power off, the notebook will display the coastal scene. I press the up key or click my mouse to bring up the login box, but the login box takes another 2-3 minutes to appear. After inputting my password, it takes approximately another 2-3 minutes to finish booting the desktop.  I note that, in an attempt to follow other tech support advice to allow the notebook to shutdown properly (to solve problem 1 above), I have previously turned off the fast boot option.  However, it... Good evening, it has been a while. I got a custom built computer about a year ago so that I can play FSX and P3D reasonably well. Everything seemed to go ok, not great, just ok. This are my specs:
Intel i7 [email protected] - Nvidia EVGA GTX 970 4gb - Asus Z97 Maximus Hero VII - WD black series 1TB HD - Corsair RM series RM850 - Samsung 840 EVO MZ-7TE500BW 500gb SSD.
About a month ago I started to notice that my wifi connection would be lost, then come back on its own. It got worse about two weeks ago, so I tried running the troubleshooter, it failed saying an error prevented it from running. Odd I thought.
I tried running windows updater, it downloaded a number of files to update, but continuosly failed to install 3 of them, apparently related to Microsoft Net Framework.
This morning I decided to uninstall P3D, and install a clean updated version, and the setup failed, never happened before. In the forums it adviced to make sure Direct X9 is installed, tried doing that and it failed as well.
This is very stressful, and affects my immune system, which is not good for me. Can someone here please be kind enough to take some time to help me solev this mess, thanks very much.
This are some logs from what happened today.

Hello fellow techies,
I have a situation with my Compaq Evo N600c battery or something in that directions, so I need possible solutions. My laptop needs to be plugged in at all times, which makes it frustrating because its a portable laptop. If it becomes unplugged the laptop will turn off within 10 seconds flat. I fear that this will, if it hasnt already done so, mess up my electric circuits among other components. Can any of you suggest or recommend options I can use to diagnose the situation. I would like to find out what the problem is, whether I should buy a new battery or some component or prong that I need to replace? Thanks for the feed back!

A:Battery will not charge or hold charge?!?!

Yup, sounds like a battery problem.

First, make sure the battery has a charge. Most laptop batteries have a button on them somewhere you can push that will give you the power level. Alternativly, there should be a utility in windows or the BIOS that will allow you to check the power level.

If the battery has no charge and isn't charging, then replace it with a known good one and see if it will charge up when the laptop is plugged in.

If the good battery won't charge up, then there is a problem with your motherboard.

If the battery has charge but won't power the system, then there is a problem with your motherboard too.

If this is the case, then the best you can do is contact the laptop manufacturer and get them to replace the motherboard.

Hi and welcome to TSG.

My first thought would be a physical problem with the button. Optical drives don't have any drivers as such to download, they are an inbuilt driver in Windows. If it works fine via the Control Panel (right click, eject) as you say but doesn't work with the button on the machine, then I suspect the button may be broken.

Probably your easiest solution is to but a new drive, they are pretty cheap.

A:Hotmail login fails DNS error when using IE, MSN Messenger fails no service found?

Greetings, and welcome to TSF!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

I read that ahcix64s is an AMD driver. Download from AMD gives me 153MB of files.  I don't know how to isolate and transfer the needed file to the PC that will not run Windows 7.

Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

My PC is an HP a6750f, with integrated Radeon HD 3200 graphics; Windows 7 (upgraded from Vista)

A:WIN 7 boot fails. Driver ahcix64s corrupt. Restore fails --registry.

Hi,

I had the exact same problem today with my HP after installing the latest Microsoft Updates. Luckily I found an other version of the ahcix64s file on my hard-drive.

If you can somehow boot into command prompt or use the Windows Recovery Console - rename the current ahcix64s.sys file to something else and copy the other ahcix64s.sys in it's place.

Computer boots perfectly now.

So, earlier today, everything was fine. My computer was working normally nothing was acting up. While unplugging my laptop from the wall I dropped it, but nothing appeared to be wrong. A little while later I restarted my computer and it worked fine for about a minute and then everything froze in windows explorer, nothing would work, folders wont open task manager never appears start menu wont come up, nothing.
I booted into safe mode and everything works fine through there, so I looked around online and one suggestion was to update my BIOS so I tried to update from Dells Inspiron 1420 A08 to the newer A10 BIOS version, trying that in safe mode failed so I tried to boot normally and quickly do whatever it told me, when I tried it wouldnt restart (and still refuses too, I have to shut it down manually outside of safe mode) it said it couldnt update the BIOS version because it couldnt locate the image, but I downloaded it directly from Dells own website.
So then I tried to do a system restore, and I got the message:

The disk Vista (c:) has errors
Windows detected file system corruption on Vista (c:)
You must check the disk for errors before it can be restored.

So I clicked scan and fix, and nothing happens. (this is back in safe mode by the way) so I opened a command promp and typed sfc /scannow
and it scanned and found some errors but were unable to fix them. Details are located in the CBS.log
So I opened the log and I found the following:

Hi, the first rule if you ever drop a laptop (and it appears OK) is to take the battery out, boot from the mains if all is OK turn off add battery and reboot. Now you may have damaged the MB and or the RAM seating or HDD cable connection as well as the monitor connect cable.. etc ...etc. You can see where this is heading to the shop would be my advice.

Here is the list of the problems in order of which I noticed things going awry:

1. My Firefox browser will re-direct my google searches to a new Firefox window pop-up with "google-analytics" in its address bar, but would never finish loading the new popped-up window. Firefox would also re-direct and never finish loading my google searches by opening a new tab with a "directdlr.com/....." in its address bar.

2. Microsoft Office 2010 applications don't open, instead a "DW20.exe" and a "DWWin.exe" replicates itself an infinite number of times in my processes, maxing out my CPU.

3. My anti-virus applications (Spyware Doctor, Microsoft Security Essentials, avast!, malwarebytes) won't update, and therefore won't run or scan. Firefox also won't load various anti-virus sites, such as this message board.

4. Other applications crash directly upon opening them (VLC Media Player)

Solutions that I've tried:

1. Resetting my router. I'd read somewhere online that doing this would solve the problem. It did not.

2. Trying to restore from a restore point. I opened System Restore, but the restore points were all very recent and within the timeframe of infection.

3. Un-installing Microsoft Office 2010 and re-installing. System won't let me un-install.

Here are my scan reports:

I took on a basket case for a friend. Machine hadnt booted for months. I got it running in normal mode after it churned for 2 hours and found outdated Norton Internet security and AVG running. Unable to uninstall them using uninstall, so got in registry and deleted all mentions of AVG, Norton and Symantec. Managed to download and install Windows updates and SP 3 for XP as well as IE 8. Tried to install Microsoft security essentials but it won't install. Ran Malware bytes which found about 15 threats which I let it delete. I then installed while online Avast! and it seems to run.Tried to install Word viewer, got error message, then ran Malwarebytes again, one more threat found. Now only boots in safe mode with networking, so tried installingword viewer again, same error (install failed). IE now won't start.

I think I must have accidentally deleted something I need while going through registry deleting Norton stuff. I tried System File Checker but it wanted original install CD to proceed and I don't have it.

I have tried running Combofix in safe mode without letting it fix anything just for info, but Combofix won't get past the opening autoscan screen. I tried letting it run for two hours, but no scanning takes place.

Any hope other than complete system restore and loss of owner's data?

A:Boots only in safe mode, windows installer fails, IE fails

Sounds to me as if a clean install is a good idea...after moving valued data files to safety.

I would move files simply by connecting the drive as a slave to a different system...and moving the files considered valuable.

When friends bring me their infected systems, that's usually the quickest/surest method that I use to ensure that they have a working system that is free of malware.

Not long ago (a week and a half or so) I was playing Payday 2 and my computer froze, I turned off my computer to restart it and could not load my computer past a pre-loading windows black screen where the mouse was not showing. I then tried booting my computer in various ways (safe, with and without networking etc) and they worked, however I believe one of my drivers failing to load was the reason for my "Windows Normal" startup to fail. I eventually decided through, I then looked at using the system restore point function in order to hope for some success. The system restore function when I restored to; a week ago, two weeks ago, did not seem too alleviate my issue much, it did however allow me to load windows but almost immediately after using the machine for 2-5 minutes I would have a frozen screen again. I then eventually decided to just factory reset the machine out of desperation, the factory reset eventually happened successfully and I was able to load windows and login into my new user successfully, as I learnt that I had to reinstall my graphical drivers I then attempted to put in various CD's in in order to install these drivers, eventually when I figured out the order of CD's that I needed to install for my games to load properly, I then resumed my activities on my pc (such as gaming, browsing etc).

Flash forward to the second factory reset, this one happened due to a very similar freezing problem yet again, and again I decided to turn off my computer ... Read more

oh me guys I need somebody really crafty!
i have a HP Pavilion laptop [dv5117ci] with factory load XP Pro SP2and factory restore discs. the system became corrupted by a failed Win update.
it had multiple files showing bad, so rather than chase them one at a time for an unknowable number of days, I decided to create a new directory and install fresh copy of WinXP Pro

That looked like it was going to work but after being up on the initial boot, wobbly, for about 45 minutes, something caused a freeze, and I was toasted after that. Same routine again: bootup, get error "Windows failed to start because the following file is missing or corrupt". so back into chasing one after another ad infinitum.

All day I have tried to get something to work so I could get the data off the system then nuke it. I can't get anything up and running so I can remove files.

Anyone have a suggestion? is there an "xp light" or something that maybe just does the MINIMUM kind of load, just enough to get win explorer running so I can copy files?

Running Windows 8.1 and File History was working OK for my computer, actually on two different computers worked just fine. (I never could get File History to work with Windows 8). Then suddenly this feature just up an quit. Got a little "red" flag in the Action Center. Using the control panel an "setting" up File History my system says that file history is turned off. I never did turn it off, it seems it just up an turned itself off. But here is the thing, I select my external drive to use for file history and the system says the service can not be started because its disabled or no enabled devices are associated. It "sees" the drive but will not enabled this drive. I have used various windows programs, such as system services..to "turn" on file history. But there seems not to be anything that will fix file history. Been reading here on the forum for help...but it seems all the help is non specific to file history not working. AN also very technical, for a non technical user, on how to fix file history. I have yet to see a simple fix to "make" Windows 8.1 to again run file history.
Why is this SO DIFFICULT to use? It almost takes a computer expert with knowledge on programing to fix weird things like this. I would just like to point and click to backup the computer...but windows is now becoming NON-USER friendly to manage these types of things. Very frustrating.

A:File History fails to work and fails to see external drive

Well it has been some time since I posted this issue. So I see NO responses STILL. AN I still have not been able to use File History EVER. It just does not work....period. Widows 8.1.1 install did not even come close of fixing "file History" working again. All I get is: file history and the system says the service can not be started because its disabled or no enabled devices are associated. There is NO user answer anywhere to fix this. I click enable file history. An the above answer pops up every time. File History is crap as far as I am concerned.

Hello.

I have been assigned to fix this computer at my work. It is a new computer we are making that will contain 4 OSs; Red Hat 5 Enterprise Linux, Windows Vista Business, Windows XP and Windows 2000. The OS to boot up is selected by using Grub. The hard drive is partitioned into 6 partitions. Xp is located on the 0 partition, Vista on 1, Win2000 on 2, Red hat on 4. IT installed all the software but now there is a problem so they threw it at me, the new intern...

Red Hat, Vista and Xp all worked fine and boot up correctly. But once Windows 2000 was installed XP no longer works. Now all the OSs installed work except for Windows Xp. Through my two day online research I discovered that you should install Window OS in order of oldest to newest (2000 then XP then Vista). It seems IT did not know about this which is why we now have this problem.

Grub reports an invalid device when it tries to boot up Widows XP (the grub commands are correct). We figure the boot sector or the MBR was overwritten by Window2000's. So I need to fix this. But the biggest problem is the Windows XP CD fails to boot from the BIOS. This CD has been used on other systems and successfully boots from BIOS and opens the recovery console. Also other boot CDs work on this system, only the Windows XP boot CD fails. On this system the BIOS sees the CD and starts it. I get the message ?Checking hardware integrity? or something similar. After a few seconds this message disappears and the computer just sits... Read more

Hi mate, i feel for you when you are trying to 'impress' the new boss. By the way, welcome to TSF! I think what you will find is that the installation order was incorrect. Basically (as you probably already know) you need to install the older os before the new os. I think by installing 2000 on the machine you have conflicting boot files. Is there a way you can connect this drive to another machine, backup the critical stuff, reinstall in the right order?

Hi, I'm looking at a window 8.1 Sony PC , that has not been able to get an update for almost a year now

I then looked that up and talked on chat to MS and was suggested to run

Edit:

Please run chkdsk /r, or chkdsk /f if you are using a SSD.

To run chkdsk /r in Windows 8/8.1 you will need to open the Elevated Command Prompt.  The easiest way to do this is to press the Windows key and the X key.   A menu will open with the option Command Prompt (Admin), click on this.

You will see a window similar to the one below.

When the Elevated Command Prompt opens copy and paste chkdsk /f in the Command Prompt, if this is a SSD you do not want to run the /r switch, you will want to use chkdsk /f then press Enter.

You will receieve the message "CHKDSK cannot be run because it is in use by another process.  Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts?  <Y/N>".

Type in Y and press Enter.

This will take a while to run, please be patient and allow it to complete the scan.  Do not stop this scan as this can damage your operating system.

When the scan is finished please download and run ListChkdskResult.

This will open Notepad with the results of the chkdsk scan.  Please copy and then paste this log in your topic.

Hello more knowledgeable person than myself. I've been having trouble trying to get my computer to boot; I'd noticed a drop in performance (still unsure why) so decided to boot up in safe mode and poke around - it was not my original intention to install Advanced SystemCare 5.3.0 but somehow it happened. I ran the 'deep-care' utility and everything was working fine, my computer rebooted and performed a disk check: there weren't any errors that I can remember apart from [something along the lines of] 60 reparse files. Following this my computer restarted and Windows failed to load, restarting to show my startup repair - this isn't the first time this has happened, a similar thing occurred following previous attempts at boosting speed, though before I was able to get Windows up and running using an Ubuntu installation disk, although I still don't understand why - no need to say that it didn't work this time.
Startup repair refuses to work and my system restore points have vanished; I would try doing a repair install if I had a copy of the disk. I installed IL-2 Sturmovik Demo v. 2.0 via Install Shield.
I first tried uninstalling it (stupidly wnough, I know, don't need any extra comments on that) by removing all the files from the folder in question, AND all the registry keys I could find with Ubi Soft or Il-2 in them.

Now; The IL-2 Sturmovik Demo is NOT any longer in the Add/Remove program list in the Control Panel. When I try uninstalling (using Uninstall Shield) it claims that the file in original folder is not there (Uninst.isu). Agreed. Common practice dictates I re-install the program and try un-installing it again. Thing is, when trying to re-install, I get the message that the game is already there.

Finally, the Question:
How do I remove the program If I cannot re-install the program (see above)? Catch 22?

A:Solved: uninstall fails, re-install fails - what to do?

Never Mind - I had missed a registry entry. Sorry for that.

This laptop had Windows 7 installed in it with Intel Rapid Storage technology enabled. Few months ago, I changed the SATA mode to AHCI and installed windows 7 on 32GB mSATA drive. I kept the C drive only for windows and didn't install anything else on it. It was working fine for about 4-5 months, till one day the Windows 7 simply failed to boot. It was stuck on the Starting Windows screen forever. I could boot in safe mode but not normal mode.

So, I decided to reinstall Win7 from DVD that came with dell.
But the installation was stuck at final step of install after first reboot.

My concern is this:

Above seems too small for extended growth.

Now, are you trying to do a clean install or reinstall? If that latter, could there be an issue related to the above (eg, not enough room)? Hi everyone!

First time poster, long time listener...

I work IT for a moderately-sized business and I just did a clean install on one of the user laptops that isn't in rotation at the moment.

I clean installed Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit. Nothing has been installed on this PC (besides CCleaner, which I ran a few times and then uninstalled). It is currently updated to Service Pack 1.
The computer is an HP ProBook 4525s.

Now, onto the meat of the issue.

I attempted to run the Windows 7 Convenience Roll-up to save time on updates, but I'm having quite a few issues and some catch-22s.

-The .net framework that comes in the roll-up installs fine, no issues.
-The actual updates- "june_rollup", "servicestack" and "wmf5" all pull up the "Windows Standalone Installer" dialogue box, but that's it. Once it reaches that box, it just looks like it's "installing updates" forever. I had it sit overnight last night and when I came into the office today, nothing. Still in the same exact place.

Troubleshooting attempted/Questions answered:

- No AV is on the system. I just did a clean install.
- I am the administrator on the device.
- I attempted to update Internet Explorer (some support articles mentioned that), but I run into the catch-22 of "update it through Windows Update!" (which isn't working, just searches forever) or to run the download straight from Microsoft's site, which then tells me to u... Read more

Clean installing W7 x86 is no problem. But

2) attempt to clean install W7 x64 results in BSOD when rebooting to finalize the process.
Any suggestion would be appreciated.

A:Two issues: Upgrade install of W7x86 fails and W7x64 fails to clean install

Hi churin and welcome to Se7en Forums

I would actually never contemplate on upgrading one OS to another - a clean install is by far the best way to go. True, installing the upgrade version of Vista as a clean install means that you actually install Vista twice, once on an empty drive/partition and then as an upgrade over itself, but it is the same OS. I would expect that the same (or similar) procedure would be true for W7. This could explain your first problem.
As for your second problem, it is possible that your download is corrupted for some reason or other. You could try downloading it again to see if that is the problem.

A:will a HP Pavilion 15-n034sa motherboard fit into a HP Pavilion 15-n083sa ?

Actually that's a hard question, generally its not possible to install another motherboard, sometimes it is. In this case one is an AMD platform and the other is an Intel platform, there could be tons of differences in mounting holes, physical design, clearance, connectors, heat dissipation requirements, cooling systems, etc. Laptops are not like desktops that use more standardized designs.

Hello and thanks for reading. Let me begin by saying I've been trying to figure this problem out for hours and hours now, and every solution I find that looks promising, just leads me in circles.

I'm trying my best to avoid a clean install.

The problem started while playing a game, causing a BSOD. After a restart, I noticed some of my programs just didn't boot up, for example Core Temp. I attempted to manually start Core Temp and received the following error: "The system could not find the environment option that was entered."

That problem lead me here: The system could not find the environment option that was entered. - Microsoft Answers

Which, obviously, did nothing for me. I tried to create a new user, but when I click the link in the control panel to do so, nothing happens.

I then tried to repair my windows installation using my disc, and it said it could not find any problems. After searching some more, I found another solution would be to perform an upgrade to my Windows installation to fix the problems.

I put the disc in, nothing happened so I went to the setup.exe directly and got the same error as above. So I then booted in safe mode, and it loaded. I got excited until it said something like "an error prevented a compliance check from completing"

And just to be very clear, my windows 7 is valid, I'd be more than happy to share an image of my newegg receipt or even my box to get that out of the way, as I've seen a lot of fla... Read more

My HP Pavilion 500-205t was destroyed by a lightning strike. The HD is o.k. I have purchased an HP Pavilion 500-490 because the specs were very close.  I  want to use my 205t HD. Both computers are Core i3-4130, have 1 TB 7200 SATA 6G 3.5 HDs, same OS (Windows 7 Pro 64). My question is:  can I swap them out, or do I need to get an external HD enclosure and copy the 205t to the 490? If I need the external HD enclosure, looks like aluminum would be best, but would like recommendation for one which would hold my HD.

On the gaming PC that I'm fixing for my son's friend, the WEI fails to complete, and fails the "video" portion... could the old 9800 GTX 512MB video card be failing? Flog it with FurMark, maybe?

That's an OpenGL test, so it may not expose DirectX issues, but I hope that it would cause a crash if the graphics card was beginning to fail.

I had that issue when I installed my new GPU. No fixes ever solved the issue until I performed a clean install and it got detected by WEI again.

But I wouldn't trust the WEI to guide performance. I mean, an old GT430 scores 7.9 randomly. Why.. because it's NVIDIA? =p

I get the message “Checking hardware integrity” or something similar. After a few seconds this message disappears and the computer just sit... Read more

Hi All,  I was using my machine yesterday and during use, it stopped charging the battery (even though it was plugged in) the laptop then proceeded to run out of battery and not turn on. I decided to change the fuse in the charger thinking that might be the problem. However, the machine would still not switch on. I then decided to pull out the multimeter I had lying around and at the charging point on the charger, I found that it was producing the correct 20v. Searching I removed the battery and power supply and held down the power button on the machine, and it is still not switching on, or showing any signs of life =[ Any help would be great before I call out someone out,  Thanks!

This was posted on another BB about AVG's antivirus protection.

I just read that after DEC.31.04 that they are going to stop free virus protection, go here to read about it, www.grisoft.com

They are hoping to come out with another version that is free,
lets hope it is before this one runs out,

There is another one on the internet as good called Advast.

I am going to be installing a server and 2-3 desktop PCs at my Mom's office. I will be researching their needs and figuring out the specs for the server and PCs for them. The server will be running Windows Small Business Server 2003 and I will be setting it up as a Domain Controller. The desktop PCs will be running XP and will joined to the domain.

I will also be installing several software applications on both the server and the desktop PCs, as well as setting up shared drives on the server for both public and private files.

There is also the possibility of restoring files from the old PCs and server to the new PCs and server.

I have done this type of work before, but mostly for myself or friends whom I did not charge, so I am not sure what to charge for this type of work. Any ideas?

Hey friends,

Hello friends & guests this post aim at sharing information about "Commit charge" some of us must be aware of this term & many don't know what the Hell is this, so here is this article that will help you to understand another aspect of your wonderful Windows...

In computing, commit charge is a term used in Microsoft Windows operating systems to describe the total amount of virtual address space for which the backing store is the pagefile. It may be thought of as the maximum potential pagefile usage.
Overview
The Windows Task Manager utility, in its Performance tab, shows three counters related to commit charge:
? Total is the amount of pagefile-backed virtual address space in use, i.e., the current commit charge. The corresponding performance counter is called "Committed Bytes".

? Limit is the maximum possible value for Total; it is the sum of the current pagefile size plus the physical memory available for paging (this excludes RAM that is assigned to non-pageable areas). The corresponding performance counter is called "Commit Limit".

? Peak is the highest amount that the total commit charge has reached since the computer was last rebooted.

The program Process Explorer reports the same set of values with the slight variation that Total is called Current there and additionally provides percentages of Peak and Current towards the Limit value.

The commit charge increases when any program is opened and used,... Read more

Deepak, I dont want to be rude and at least you've taken the trouble, but that kind of info (in formal, jargonized language) is available all over the internet. IMHO, you'll be doing the SF comunity much better service if you distill the concepts into simple language that even my granny can understand. As it is right now, noobies will have trouble grasping it and oldies already know it all. Again, no offense meant and think about it.

So, I switched out the power cord, tried fn f2 f3, plugged in a different outlets and still the results are the same- giant paperweight. My trouble all started with downloading Windows 10. The computer crashed constantly, lost power out of the blue, and some other annoyances. I have uninstalled that beast from ***, but encountered issues though less frequently.
What I am getting from the previous posts is that I need a new mother board, right? That seems expensive or techie.  Is there some other means to just charge my battery that doesn't involve another computer?  I have hardly used this refurbished hunk of junk. I refuse to ever get another HP because of the problems I had with their laptops. I hope Dell isn't heading in the same direction.

Try removing the battery and see if the comp works OK without it. Modern batteries must be used, so if you haven't been using the laptop with just the battery then it is possible the battery has died.
If it works Ok sans battery then reinsert it and if you get the same symptoms as before you might have to buy a new battery.

Hi, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!  Take a look at where the power plugs into the laptop.  If the power plug shows any of the silver (chrome) adapter, this is likely your problem. **DANGER** UNPLUG THE POWER FROM THE WALL POWER OUTLET BEFORE PROCEEDING! Unplug the adapter from the laptop and look into the hole in the center of the plug-in portion. You will probably need a flashlight. You will probably see that the center pin is bent to one side and is no longer in the center of the hole. To repair this.............. Straighten the outermost bend of a regularly sized paperclip (the 1 inch type) and then used a multi-tool to bend the tip (about 1/16th inch) to a 90® bend and then insert it into the center hole. After getting the tip behind the center pin, slowly pull the paperclip out. you have to repeat this several times and also had to GENTLY pry the tip back to the center of the hole with the tip of the bent paperclip. Now when you plug in the power plug it goes all the way in and the laptop once again charges while on. Hope this may help. Thanks. ****Click the White Kudos star to say thanks********Please mark Accept As Solution if it solves your problem****

My Acer Aspire One Netbook works fine for the most part, however the last couple of days when I charge the battery, either while using it or overnight with the unit off, it will only charge to 92%. and the little charging led stays orange while charging and never reaches the blue color which indicates a full charge.

The unit is working fine. Any ideas as to what this might be? When I do have the unit plugged-in while using it if I hover the battery indicator it will say Plugged-in & charging.

Should I let the battery fully run down and then try recharging it? Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
