I'm using an HP ENVY m6 running Windows 8 and the keyboard just stopped working. I reinstalled the keyboard driver but still not working. I connected a USB keyboard and it works fine, also I resotred the original windows 8 OS from the hard drive but still the same problem. At the start up the keyboard works fine, I can start the setup menu, navigate, etc. the keyboard works fine. I use the keyboard diagnostic from the BIOS and the keyboard works perfectly.I'm really confused with this problem. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

HDMI port seems to have stopped working. I usually connect to HP Pavilion 23xi screen but my HP Envy does not now detect it. Tried HP Envy on other screens and it does not detect them either. No idea why it stopped working. Not a computer buff so need simple solution ideally!

About 2 weeks ago, the wireless keyboard on my TouchSmart stopped working for no reason. Nothing has been spilled, it has not been dropped, and no cat has laid on it!!  I have tried re-booting, exchanging the batteries, but to no avail. If there is anything else I should be doing, could you please let me know; otherwise I would like to find out who to go about getting a new keyboard, and how much that would cost me.

The numbers on the bottom of the keyboard are as follows:

After the update to Windows 8.1 a while back, the touchscreen function on my laptop went away. Every time i go to see my PC info it says "No pen or touch innput is available for this display". I have tried almost everything I can think of. I have used recovery mode and have even refreshed it. Just last night my touchscreen randomly started working at around 11:00 p.m. and this morning the touchscreen functionality went away once again. I went to my Device Manager and saw that in the Human Interface Devices section there was no touchscreen driver. My laptop has seemed to lost all touchscreen capability and I really need help.Is there ANYTHING I can do????? PLEASEE HELP!!!!! :-(      :-(      :-(      :-(      :-(      :-(      :-(      :-(

A:HP Envy TouchSmart Sleekbook 4 touchscreen not working

@Avious_Avi, Thanks for posting. Personally, since you mentioned the touchscreen worked before Windows 8.1, I would do a Windows refresh: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03538721 You can also try updating the drivers of the product to try and get that functionality back.

Please help! The touch screen on my Envy laptop no longer works. I've tried restarting and shutting off, but to no avail. When I go to PC Info, it tells me that: "No pen or touch input is available for this display." This is obviously incorrect, because my laptop is, in fact, a touch screen. I haven't installed any programs that would have affected the feature. Thanks,Jerry

It seems from the forum posts that there are many many people with the same issue, and no solution to the problem!  When will HP take responsibility for this issue and provide a solution? The issue is the "Touchsmart" screen is no longer responding to touch!!!  What's the point of a touch screen laptop if it does not respond to touch!!!! I have been through all the proposed solutions ... device manager... etc. etc... but still nothing... Under System: Pen and Touch it says: It says no pen or touch input is available for this display Please can HP help its customers resolve this issue?

Hello @HP-Envy, Welcome back to the HP Forums! I came across your post and want to help you restore the functionality of the touchscreen on your HP ENVY TouchSmart m7-j120dx. This seems to be a driver related issue, but could be related to something else as well. To being, please perform a hard reset. Next, I recommend restoring the BIOS so the notebook will research the hardware that it has installed. HP Notebook PCs - Restoring the BIOS Once the BIOS restoration is complete follow the steps in this touchscreen troubleshooting document, I know you have completed most of the steps from it but doing it after the BIOS restoration is key. HP Notebook PCs - Touch Screen Issues (Windows 10)(If component tests is not an option in step four of that document, use the testing for hardware failures document) HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 8) I look forward to your reply with the results!

The touchscreen stopped working suddenly. At first i though it was like a normal failure and that will get fixed by turning the pc of or restarting so I did not pay attention to it until now that I had restart my pc multiple times. Currently running win10. I started to believe it was because of an update a few days ago since it was when the problem started. I have checked for the HID-compliant Touch Screen driver.

About a month ago the cursor on my laptop screen disappeared and the clickpad stopped working. The touch screen still worked. I closed it down as I had to run and when I came back it was back. Nothing wrong after that. This morning I was on my laptop walked away for a minute and came back and the same thing happened. This time it's not coming back though.

I went into the control panel and installed all the updates that were available but that didn't help. Any other ideas of what to do to get it to work again? From what I can tell there isn't a "shutoff" for the clickpad that I might have hit.

Any help would be much appreciated!

My computer's been acting up since yesterday, but nothing really drastic happened until a couple hours ago. Yesterday, my computer was being kind of slow and unresponsive. Website pages weren't loading correctly on Chrome, which was my go-to browser, but were fine on Firefox. I thought this was because I hadn't turned the computer off for a couple days. I just kept putting it on sleep because I had unfinished business, unsaved. However, it got to the point where the unresponsiveness was annoying, so I decided to restart the computer. While restarting, instead of booting back up, it got stuck on the black screen and wasn't doing anything for about 10 minuites, so I just shut it off via the power button and went to bed. (It's done this before, and booted back up with no problem other times.) Today, when I turned the computer on, it booted up fine, but was being really slow and eventually froze. I had to hold down the power button to turn it off. When I turned it back on, I got a "blue screen" that read something like: "your computer has run into a problem and needs to restart. We are collecting some error info. and then it will restart for you." When the error info was collected, the computer restarted, but instead of booting up, I kept getting the blue screen over and over again. It was throwing up two different codes on the screen, one was "WFS_VIOLATION" and the other was "0xc000021a".  Eventually I was able to press F11 to get into the pre-boot sett... Read more

As I wrote in the title, my Shift and Alt keys stopped working for keyboard shortcuts. However, the Shift key still works when capitalizing letters.

I've been dealing with this problem off/on for the past two weeks and haven't been able to figure it out. I've gone into Ease of Access features and turned on/off all of the available options (Mouse Keys, Sticky Keys, Toggle Keys, Filter Keys). I've pressed Shift for 8 seconds, and pressed it 5 times, and still haven't been able to correct it.

Thank you in advance for any help offered.

Possibly helpful additional information:
I've got a Spanish/Latin American keyboard layout installed in addition to the US English keyboard layout. I toggle back and forth with Left Alt + Shift (which is how I noticed my Shift key stopped working).
I play a game whose controls rely on a lot of Shift key pressing and holding.

When was the last time you used a can of air cleaner on the keyboard? If it isn't from contact wear often keyboards tend to get loaded up with dust and debris!

One example of that is having any snacks onhand around a pc where little bits get passed along from your fingers onto and under the keys themselves. Keyboards are known to get loaded up fast with any foods present!

Hello,  I have faced a boot/power issue, and have not found one answer to the required question. Thus After solving I came here to share my experience. I have ran into a problem where a connected usb device caused malfunction and my HP Envy dropped dead. Bascially i connected a phone via a faulty usb cable, put it to sleep and turned on the usb power supply to charge the phone while the computer was inactive. PC was on sleep mode through the night and the next morning I wanted to boot it up, but no signs of life. The laptop had the power button blinking and charging LED light, but all else was not working. I removed the battery just to face a total dead stop from the pc. Only charger light working, nothing else, no power no boot no fan spinning. I read numerous threads about a hard reset, removed my battery, removed the charger, held the power button for 45 seconds, 1 minute, 3 minutes, but nothing worked. My laptop does NOT have a beats button, which could make it stuck, therefore I did not have anything else to do.  SOLUTION: The HP Envy 15t j-series 2013 laptops have an inbuilt backup small battery. You have to open up the bottom of the laptop, remove the main battery, removed the RAM chips, remove the battery (small circle one, like a big hand watch battery, then put everything back together and the laptop boots back up with no problem.  Hope this works and solves some problems with you guys as well. One day my TouchPad stopped responding completely. I uninstalled the Synaptics SMBus TouchPad driver under Device Manager. After I restarted my computer, my TouchPad was working again with the older Microsoft TouchPad drivers that  were still there. I lost all the gesture functionality , and the TouchPad was sensitive and lagged significantly. Eventually Windows automatically updated to the latest Synapatics 19.0.12.98 and the TouchPad was working until I closed my laptop and tried opening it again. Has anyone had a similiar issue? Hi, When I turned on my HP Envy 15t laptop yesterday several keys stopped working. They appear to be randomly placed around the keyboard: N, B, Caps lock, delete and a few others. I've tried several fixes that I have found on this forum but nothing has worked thus far. I now have an external keyboard hooked up and it works fine, but that kind of defeats the purpose of a laptop. My system worked fine on Windows 8.1 and I said no to the Windows 10 upgrade numerous times. Then I woke up one morning and saw that Windows 10 had been added to my normal updates for my system. Ever since then the keyboard is not working right. Everytime I try to type with it it will send me to a shortcut for the corresponding letter. So when I type the letter H it opens up my history. Or if I type the letter S and opens up my save as folder. Also the x button seems to be repeatedly going. I wonder if there is a way to get my computer out of shortcut mode if that is a thing. Goodday Gurus!!!

I have just started up my Sony vaio desktop. The keyboard works in bios, but when i access windows xp, it stops working. I plug it into another usb ports, while windows was adding in drivers such as the "USB Human Interface Device", the keyboard was working. After windows finishes adding in the drivers, the keyboard stopped working. My mouse is working though. I access device manager, systems. and I see that the USB Human Interface driver for the keyboard is there, but under the keyboard category, it doesn't show any keyboard installed. I tried another keyboard, same case. Anybody any ideas?

Oh one more thing, when i ran my ubuntu O/S, it works for the keyboard and mouse.

Hope to hear from someone!

Thanks!

A:Keyboard stopped working!

Is there a driver for the keyboard that you can download and install?
Is it a keyboard with lots of buttons on it?

In the meantime if you need to enter characters, XP has a virtual kybd:
C:\Windows\system32\osk.exe

You could try to uninstall the human interface device from device manager,
or also do a system restore to go back a few days before the problem started.

I am trying to help out a friend whose keyboard stops working as soon as Windows starts to load. She has a Desktop PC running Windows XP (not sure what SPs are installed, as I cannot get logged in). She is using a USB keyboard (no PS2 ports on the unit) which works in the BIOS, but as soon as Windows starts to load, none of the keys work. I have verified that the keyboard is working on another PC.

I had intended to use the on-screen keyboard to investigate the problem further, once Windows had loaded, but her account has a password and I cannot get past this screen without a keyboard!. Is it possible to by-pass the log in screen? Also any ideas about sorting out the keyboard problem if I can get into her account.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

My keyboard stopped working this morning.( I am using my laptop now) I checked the connection to my PC and it is fine. I rebooted but that was no help.

Just prior to the problem I would get a screen regarding Microsoft Narrator. The screen referenced settings from text to speech, etc;. I had no idea there was such a function in XP Home never mind turning it on.Apparently it is for those visually impaired. I tried to exit from the program several times but it would pop up every time I tried to type on the keyboard. I finally clicked on 'do not show this screen again'. Now I get nothing when I try to use the keyboard.

I am not sure if the above program is my problem or not.

Any help would be appreciated.
Dennis XP Home, IE-8, SP
Edit: I figured out how to exit narrator. The keyboard still does not work.

Forgive a silly question, but have you tried a different keyboard? Or try the keyboard you have with a different system. Let's rule out the obvious first.

Hi chelemww ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would your laptop work using any external usb mouse and keyboard?

Try to turn off the laptop and use the novo button ((item 3 page 11-12) to turn back on?
This would show a Novo Menu , try using the up and down arrow keys and highlight BIOS setup.
Press enter and press f9 to load defaults f10 to save and exit .
Would the keys respond?

Hi all,

I have a problem with win7. The keyboard stopped working form one day to anohter*. In the BIOS it works fine. When I use a Linux partition (starting from DVD, "Knoppix") it works also fine. Also at bootloader leval its ok.
But at Win7 it stopps working. Does not matter which keyboard I use -USB or PS/2.

The USB driver works propperly. Interesting is that the PS/2 driver does NOT work propperly (Error Reason Code 10).

I am at the end of my know how.

Any help is highly recomened.

PS: Non native EN speaker - sorry for my english

*I have to mention that yesterday my PC had some BDOS (Sudden blue deaths) at booting (reason unknown - looks like a memory issue). Win7 start some self reparation (?), I assume, after that the KB stopped working.

About a week ago the keyboard on my fathers computer stopped working. First we replaced the keyboard, but that wasn't the problem. When i went to check the drivers i found one that doesn't seem like a driver. It says AVAST is the publisher, but Avast isn't all caps and the "driver" is not digitally signed. The "driver" is (C:\Windows\system32\drivers\aswKbd.sys). how would i get rid of it?

Since today, the number "6" key and capitalized "y" do not work anymore. They worked for a brief time after I turned off the laptop and removed minor dirt from these keys by removing the key cap and retainer clip, but now they do not work properly anymore. A strange thing is that lower case "y" works, but upper case "Y" not when I push the left shift key. Any ideas what is going on here?

I have had my split x2 for the party 2 years and now the my laptop would not start if it's attached to the keyboard. I tried plugging in the adapter (all genuine hp parts) and the light does not even turn off. If I use the screen as a tablet it works and can charge the screen without the keyboard but the minute I connect the keyboard it shuts down and the screen has to be recharged. I am not sure if I can just replace the keyboard alone.

Test with a different keyboard. Then you will know if you have a keyboard or PC issue. Assuming a different keyboard works, I'd speculate that keyboard is faulty. It happens.

A:keyboard stopped working

Hi, and welcome to TSF. It might be worth subbing another keyboard, but it's more likely just to rule the keyboard out as the problem. If you hit the "delete" key at boot, will the keyboard work in the bios? or will it not get you there? Alternately, you could try using a USB keyboard, but that may not work until enabled in the bios, which you might not be able to get access to. Try to access the bios though, and if "delete" don't get it, try the F-10 key, since we're dealing with a Compaq. If you can get to the bios, try setting the defaults, and save and exit. If the keyboard exhibits not problems at all accessing and navigating bios, then through the mouse, navigate to the device manager in windows, and delete the keyboard. Then rebooting should force a hardware detection, and restore the keyboard. This keyboard isn't wireless is it??????

Yesterday my keyboard stopped working out of the blue. It works in set up mode (at the very beginning you can hit one of the "F" keys and it will take you to setup ,etc.) but once it gets to log on, it won't work. When you check the keyboard hardware, it shows HID with a yellow exclamation point and mentions something about error 38. I am not that computer literate. Is there any simple way to try to fix this? I have a Dell Dimension 510.

A:Keyboard stopped working

This appears to be a device driver for your keyboard.

Look at this link: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp/915164-solved-keyboard-not-working-error.html

You may want to try the following:

1. Unistall your keyboard.

2. Reboot.

3. Reinstall.

Dear all,
These (MJU7NHY6) keys in my laptop dell (Inspiron 11-3000 series) keyboard stopped working this May 13. They wouldn’t function unless pressed so hard. I bought laptop last year and it's new.
The onscreen keyboard is working fine. I updated the keyboards driver but it didn’t help. I’m not aware of any liquid that may have spilled over the keyboard. Maintenance shops where I'm seem they can’t help. Some said would give it a try and remove the keyboard to see if they can identify and solve the problem but said that there’s a chance it may screw up the whole keyboard. Please advise what to do. Enclosed is a snapshot of the keys in questions.
I appreciate your advice.

Can you suggest what may be wrong?

Sounds like something blown or incorrectly put back together. open it again and put it back to its original state and if it doesn't work, get a new one.

I own an HP Envy TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC product number: E0K05UA#ABA and Model: 15-j053cl

I had a couple plastic screw inserts that hold the right side hinge to the top cover of the laptop break due to very high strength of the hinges which caused the top cover of the laptop to pry apart from the base enclosure when opened (a problem many owners of this laptop model have had). Since I was out of warranty I ordered a replacement on Ebay using the correct part number 720570-001 and disassembled my laptop to make the repairs and loosen the hinges while I was at it. I swapped out all parts being careful to note where and how plugs and ribbons were connected so I could put it back together correctly. Now after having it reassembled it will not turn on.

I get a white LED light to turn on when I plug in the power cord AC adapter (should be amber/orange in color to signify it is charging the battery) but no other sounds lights or signs of life. I have attempted to remove the battery and power cord, pressed the power button for 8-30 seconds to drain power and do a reset and then try to power up with plugging in the power cord but it won’t turn on. I also tried to power up by removing one part at a time including the hard drive, two RAM sticks, and wireless card but still not able to turn on. Do you have any ideas for what may be wrong or steps I can take to troubleshoot? Is this possible a mother board issue? Everything was working fine before embarking on this r... Read more

Greetings,    I have owned this laptop for over 2 years and have encountered many problems which have required me to open up my laptop and remove debree/dust from the interior. My last adventure included removing the fan and heatsink from the inside, but when I assembled the laptop back together it will not start up. When plugged in the white led light still shows next the the charger socket, but the power button will not light up after several tries. The fan does not start to spin either.   I have tried the hold the power for 1 minute idea, but it does not change anything.I have 3 possible conclusion that are very unlikly to me.1.  I worked on carpet and had static  electrickery! I have a WinXP Pro system. I used to run ThreatFire on it but decided to uninstall it. Everything went smoothly but when I restarted my computer the keyboard stopped working (under XP, it worked before XP was loaded).

I tried F8/Safe mode/Last Known configuration but none worked.

Fortunately, I was able to use remote desktop to login.

I tried system restore but it could not proceed.

I looked at device manager and it reported code 39 (corrupted driver). I uninstalled the driver and rescanned for hardware. Same problem.

I copied kbdclass.sys and i8042prt.sys from another Xp computer to System32\drivers. Nothing changed.

Finally, I decided to do an XP repair install (big mistake!)
Everything went well but then it asked for product key to finalize installation and the keyboard was not working.

I contacted the custom service from PCtools and I was told to look for TFkbmon in the registry.

I have UBCD4win available so I was able to search the registry but did not find one. Furthermore, UpperFilters value looks correct. HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}:UpperFilters = "kbdclass"

I am running out of ideas. Since the keyboard works find under BIOS/Live CD but stops working once "Windows setup (repair install)" is loaded, I would guess the culprit is an old file not updated during the repair process, but I just could not pinpoint it. Is there any other thing I should try?

I have a PC with a K6-2 400mhz CPU on a Biostar M5ALA motherboard with a ALi chipset, 128mb of RAM, 10.2 GB HD running Windows ME. Today I opened up the case & added 128mb more of RAM, made sure that worked, then added a new video-card. After I installed the new video-card, with the case still off, I tested it & everything worked okay.

So I unplugged everything, put the case back on, & hooked everything back up. I had trouble getting the keyboard to plug in, but it went it. I turned the system back on & found that both the keyboard & the mouse had stopped working.

I shut it down & removed both, found that the keyboard pins were bent. Mouse pins were fine. I had put the keyboard plug into the correct socket, too. So I went to the store & bought a new keyboard & mouse, brought them both home, installed them---and they didn't work. Again, I made sure that both the keyboard & the mouse were plugged into the correct sockets.

The mouse was a USB/serial port mouse, so I plugged it into a USB port instead--it worked. Under Device Manager, I could see the system registering a keyboard. No yellow exclamation points. Everything looked normal.

So I borrowed a working keyboard from my neighbor and tried it--nothing. So I used the Start-Up disk to boot into DOS & the keyboard still didn't work, nor did the mouse.

So I shut down, removed the new RAM I had installed, started it up again after taking the Start-Up disk out, and while it c... Read more

Everything pointed to a hardware conflict when the keyboard stopped working. At this point Safe Mode was extremely hard to access and could not get to System Restore. In the regular boot-up, it was the same for system restore and Windows XP would shut down. The drive light would also only flicker a bit after the system booted up. However, thru a fluke I was able to access a system restore point in Safe Mode only to have it to start the restoration for about 3 minutes then freeze--the rstoration bar did not flinch for two hours-froze. Now when the system boots up, if one clicks on the START button more than once, it too, freezes, and have to power the system off for another run at Start. Now it will not log off, hanging at "the system is now shutting down or the hour glass will only show after clicking on the Turn Off button. The drive light activity is now solid.Have not been able to access the bios no matter what, since the keyboard quit working.

Hi,

I need some help trying to solve a keyboard problem. Anyway, Awhile ago my keyboard decided to stop working... i remember there was some kind of usb port exceeding limitations error so i rebooted the computer and the keyboard didn't work at all. So I tried the broken keyboard out on our other computer and it still didn't work (so i thought it must be something wrong with the keyboard) So i got my keyboard that works from the other computer and everything was working again. But then shortly after the working keyboard stopped working (but it still worked on our other computer). So now none of our keyboards will work on the computer, however the keyboard that was working will still work when the computer loads up (e.g i can press f12/f2/f8) but when i get to the login screen i cant type anything so now i can't log in.

sorry that was a bit confusing because im really sick and have a huge headache =\

any help?

Just now my mouse and keyboard randomly stopped working on my desktop. It was running perfectly fine then all I heard was the USB disconnect sound and all function in both the keyboard and mouse stopped. When I start my computer the lights on my mouse and keyboard briefly come on then turn off when I'm on the welcome screen.

Weird thing is that they both work on my brothers computer but when I try my brothers keyboard and mouse they don't work on my computer.

I'm also running windows 10 if that matters.

Hello all, I recently bought a Gateway NV5302u (of course MFC) and I love it as it was very inexpensive for its price while being a powerful computer. For some reason, it was bothering me that a little speckle was inside my keyboard and my little spray cleaning gun tool couldn't get the little speckle, so I lacked common sense and got a paperclip and stretched out the sharp side and tried to remove it manually.

After I did this, all of a sudden some of my keyboard letters stopped working. The keyboard letters that stopped working are m, b, h, n, u, y, 8 .

I don't know what to do. I need my laptop and I don't know if there is something I can do to manually possibly reset something that I may have done to the keyboard. Thank God for the Windows 7 on-screen keyboard, and for Dragon naturally speaking program, but I really need to have my keyboard working and not having some of the letters not working really is slowing me down.

Does anyone have any suggestions or know anything I can do to solve this problem. Thanks again for your help and I know it was a stupid dumb headed move that I did but hopefully I can do something to have this fixed. Thanks again everybody!

I am running Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3

I had a Microsoft wireless comfort keyboard 4000 for about 2 years and never had a problem. I have the OEM software which is Intellitype Pro 6.1. This keyboard stopped working and my efforts to troubleshoot have all failed.

I went to my local Frye?s Superstore and found a deal on a Microsoft wireless natural multimedia keyboard and mouse combo. The OEM software supplied is the same Intellitype Pro 6.1

I uninstalled all the old hardware/software and reinstalled everything fresh and rebooted.

I have my PC setup with password at boot up and I was able to type in my password, however that?s as far as my keyboard will type. Some of the function buttons do work, i.e. My Documents, My Pictures etc but I just can?t type.

In device manager under keyboards is ?Microsoft USB dual receiver wireless keyboard (Intellitype Pro). It also shows this device is working properly.

I launched mskey.exe and found the following:

The only attached device is Terminal Server Keyboard driver. If I uncheck the box ?show attached devices only? my Microsoft USB Dual Receiver wireless keyboard intellitype pro ? remembered. Is this a problem?

What do I do next?

A:Wireless keyboard stopped working

I ask the obvious. New batteries?

Or try a different USB port

And the receiver is not obstructed

Last suggestion, uninstall the software, and boot the machine with the keyboard attached

Prior to installing the software, make sure it is the most recent version, then install it

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NR220-E laptop running Windows 7 (32 bit) operating system. I had some problems so I did a system restore. It appeared to work but I lost all keyboard function. The mouse pad and clicker works but no numbers or letters. The device manager shows the keyboard as working fine.

I went back to undo the restore, everything appears fine, I have my keyboard back but I can't get any internet connection. The trouble shooter says "windows cannot automatically detect proxy settings". I can't find how to correct this.
Suggestions?

I was in the middle of a game, and found the keyboard to be unresponsive after hours of playing using an XBox 360 controller. After some tests with a text editor, I shut down the system, then powered back on. The keyboard was still unresponsive. Rebooting, I am not able to get into the BIOS with keystrokes. I went to boot using a Linux distro and similar boot utilities, and the keyboard was unresponsive for these. This 'feels' like a hardware issue, 4 months after purchase. The keyboard lights up, but absolutely no keys are responsive.
Are the keyboards for this model known to be faulty?

Hello-- the other day my mouse and keyboard were working fine. I unplugged them to use on another computer and at first the arrow kept staying fixed (mouse was not working) and if I got the mouse working the keyboard didn't- finally I switched to my old wired components and did what I needed to do. Well, when I set my normal computer back up the mouse worked fine but i have been unable to get the wireless keyboard working again no matter what. i have reset it multiple times, changed the batteries, restarted the computer, unplugged it from computer and replugged it, etc. Keep getting the mouse working but no response from the keyboard (other than when I hit the 'connect' button on the main base and the keyboard the green light on keyboard does flash). I can't find the manual so I don't know if there is some weird key combination that maybe unlocks the keyboard??

Right now I am successfully using the wireless mouse but had to plug in my junky wired keyboard to type this message-- any advice would be appreciated. BTW it is a Logitech mx3000 and has worked perfectly since I bought it months ago except whenever it needed batteries.

Reseat the USB connector. Some usb plugs are picky and will not "see" the connection unless it's in all the way. Also check your device manager to see if anything has a splat (yellow triangle with an exclamation mark). Fix that problem, too.

(IT'S NOT A LAPTOP. USING WINDOWS 8.1)
I restarted my computer and now all of my USB ports don't work on the desktop, but they still work in BIOS, and I can access the F2 and F8 menus. I tried restoring an old version of windows but it gives me an error. And also, now the Wi-Fi and the sound displays with a red cross near their icon.

-I tried disabling my XHCI, it didn't do anything.

-I even tried ps/2 port, it didn't work either.

-I tried restoring an older version of my computer it didn't work and gave me an x800 error every time on every backup I had. (I had around 4)
My keyboard and mouse are in working conditions, USB still give out power. Please help, I've been having this problem for five days now, I need my computer for work. Please.

What anti-virus program are you using? Have you run a full scan?
Also download and scan with Malwarebytes Anti Malware (free version), see if anything is found.

Test memory and hard drive:

Download Memtest86+ (you want the 2nd one Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip)). Unzip it then create a CD from the iso file using your CD burning software. There is a good freeware burner called ImgBurn which will do this easily.

DO NOT burn the .iso file directly to CD. It must be used as input to a program that knows what to do with it, like the one I mentioned above.

You can do this on any computer that has a working CD Burner.

You can also use a Flash drive instead of a CD.

Download - Auto-installer for USB Key (Win 9x/2k/xp/7) *NEW!*.
Unzip and run Memtest86+ USB Installer.exe.
It will format the flash drive if you tell it to. I used a small, 16MB flash drive and it had 8.5GB left when done.

Boot the CD or Flash drive and run Memtest86+ for at least 3 complete passes unless it shows errors sooner than that. An overnight run is even better.

Check the hard drive with the manufacturer's diagnostic tools.

Last night, I was playing World of Warcraft and my keyboard suddenly started malfunctioning. I figured that it was becoming unresponsive because of losing battery power, so I replaced the batteries (It is a wireless keyboard.) However, when I put the new batteries in, it started acting odd, if that is a good way to put it.

For example, if I typed "M", it would input "MNH", if I typed "H", it would input "HNM". If I typed "O', it would type "Ol;," and if I typed "i", it would type "i000000000(repeating0s)".

I recently had a virus, but that was all cleared up (I purchased McAfee and removed it easily. I checked my own HiJackThis log, but that's only because I'm familiar with the processes that run on my computer. I posted my HiJackThis log before I checked it myself, but it had been a day and I read a tutorial and did it myself. There are no longer any odd processes left (There were only 3, one disabling Task Manager, one disabling Command Line, and one disabling Registry Edit.) I ran a virus scan once more in both Safe Mode and normally.

I tried replacing the keyboard, I went out and bought a brand new Belkin media keyboard, but it did not work at all. The computer would recognize it, and the drivers were all installed, but it just could not input anything. I tried both keyboards on my second computer (The one I am using now) and they both worked just fine. I can still use my other computer ju... Read more

Hi all, this is my first time posting on this board and itís probably a total newbie question but here goes; I wanted to add a second hard drive to my pc but there wasnít an available SATA connection on my motherboard so I purchased a pci-e card that allowed me to add another pair of sata connections, I installed the card powered on and added the drivers and then everything was fine. Now I powered my computer back on and the usb mouse and keyboard doesnít work at all, not sure what is happening, does anybody have any ideas why this would happen? The only other thing plugged into a usb that is working is a wifi stick.

What are the specs of your current system? Do you have a very high video card but low Power supply wattage?

I agree that the keyboard and mouse only use a very low watt consumption on your PSU. But if you have maxed out your PSU due to the high specs you are using, then definitely the external USB devices will not work as they are just a second priority for the power consumption.

If you have a low spec system then obviously, this is a compatibility issue with your mouse and keyboard. Let me know your thoughts.

The charge light wont come on when its plugged in, no lights are blinking when attached to the tablet.  And yes the switch is on, on the keyboard.  i have flipped it on and off quite a few times.  I've restarted it many times as well. I did download some new Sims 3 games which has affected my display when i play from time to time, but i wouldnt think it'd affect the keyboard... Today the keyboard did start working again after a week of being detatched, until i shut the tablet down and now back at square one. any help will nbe greatly appreciated!!!!Thank you!

I have a windows 8, Packard bell laptop.
I forgot to turn my laptop off, and instead left it on sleep mode for a day or so. When I came to enter my password, my keyboard was not working, and I have had to use the on screen keyboard to type.
I have rebooted, and have checked things like Filter Keys.
When I tried again today, I managed to type a couple of random letters in the search bar, while the laptop and windows was still starting up. Once everything was fully loaded, I was unable to type anything more.
Does anyone have any hints at all?.
