Hey @Rahul_mk, I would like to welcome you to the HP Support Community. If my reply resolves your issue or answer your question(s), please let others know this reply was helpful by clicking the Accept as Solution button. I understand that you did a BIOS upgrade but it did not take well to your HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab522tx. You mentioned that your Notebook is now slow and games and movies are stuttering. Many HP Notebooks have an HP BIOS Restore tool that may recover the BIOS from an earlier version and restore basic functionality. Please follow the documentation to do a BIOS reset. Have you tried to perform a hard reset?Which BIOS version did you upgrade to? You said that Windows 10 is up to date.Have you tried using the HP Support Assistant for updates also? You can try following the below steps to reload the factory installed BIOS Setup Settings:In the BIOS Setup utility, select the Exit tab.Select Load Setup Defaults.Select Save Changes and Exit (pressing F5 and the Enter key will also load the Setup Defaults).Press Esc and then Enter to exit Setup. If you require further assistance, I would be more than happy to continue to help you. Please re-post with any information you think may help me find a resolution for you. Please also let me know if the BIOS reset works. If you would like to show you appreciation for my efforts today, please take a second to click the Thumbs Up button below. I am glad that you joined in! Have a great day!

I have a brand new HP ProBook 450 G3 and wanted to update the Bios before setting up an operating system. The Built-in Bios update via Network (In the Bios Menu) worked, but it actually downgraded my Bios from 1.02 to 1.01. I've downloaded what seems to be the latest version: 01.10 Rev.A(12 Apr 2016) (sp75637.exe)Ran the exe to create a Rescue USB Flash Drive. The update function in the Boot Menu (Esc during boot) didn't find the file. I manually moved it to the folder it was expecting and then the upgrade worked, but it sent my device to an infinite reboot loop.Luckily the network updater allowed me to downgrade to 1.01 again. So what is this? HP releases new version on their site that don't seem to work and the update finds even older versions?

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... Hello,
When I press Restore Settings button in BIOS setting (through F2 when Dell logo is displayed at booting) then the dialog with two options is shown:

BIOS Defaults
Factory Settings

What is the difference about these two options (BIOS Defaults vs. Factory Settings) please?
Thank you.

Good evening!
A week ago I reinstalled Windows 7 in EFI mode on my laptop, and now I've got this problem: whenever I turn on my computer after a shutdown, the BIOS says "System Resuming" instead of "Press F2 to enter settings". This makes impossible for me to access BIOS settings. Previously, my BIOS used to say "System Resuming" only after a hibernation. The weird fact is that - as far as I remember - this thing started happening only after a few days.
Can you help me?
Thanks in advance :-)

A:I can't access BIOS settings because BIOS assumes Windows is resuming

Try doing a shutdown command from a CMD window, or Start button / Run
The command is shutdown /s

See if entering the command manually makes a difference in how it starts up

Hi Guys
I restored an image created with Macrium Reflect on my wife's computer (Custom build with Asus P8Z77-V LX mother board) and everything went fine until rebooting when i got to the "Please press DEL or F2 to enter UEFI BIOS settings" then everything stopped.
I have tried F2 DEL F8 F12 just about all the F combinations and nothing works, I have two SSD drives one with Win7 Pro and one with Win10 Pro (not connected at the same time) and neither of them will boot up.
I have tried changing the jumper pins from 1 and 2 to 2 and 3 for 10 sec to clear the RTC Ram in CMOS then returned then to 1 and 2 and tried rebooting...no change so i removed the battery and repeated the jumper pin swap then reinstalled the battery and still no change, cannot get passed press DEL or F2 to access the BIOS settings.
I even downloaded the latest BIOS and updater as shown and put them on a USB flash drive together and tried the Macrium Rescue disk, and still nothing happened and it will not open the BIOS maybe i got it all wrong ?
I was hoping someone here might know how to put it right, i am out of idea's and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello:

This is my first post here, so hi to everyone.
I just got an ASUS X401a Notebook and I want to use a flash drive to boot from Linux.
I need to change the sequence in the BIOS so that the flash drive is first choice to boot from.
I have no problem accessing the BIOS utility, but it allows me to alter only some settings. Those in blue colored font I can change those in black font I cannot. What drive to boot from first is in black and not adjustable.
I used command line to work as admin and I also set up a password for admin in the BIOS to access the BIOS utility, but still no go; some things are allowed to be changed some aren't.

Any help is appreciated.

A few months ago, I updated my MSI Z68A-GD55 to the latest BIOS "7681vP8", which is still the latest version on MSI's website as of today. Since updating to this version, the UEFI BIOS screen is totally different, the layout has been changed entirely. I was able to find the overclocking settings quickly, but since the update, the board will not allow me to change many settings. All CPU/Memory/chipset voltage adjustments, CPU ratio adjustments, bclock adjustments, etc are all either greyed out and cannot be selected at all, or they are set to "Auto" and that is the only available option for them. This is a solid overclocking motherboard from what I've heard online, and I'm running a K series CPU (2500k), so I'm really perplexed as to why I can't even adjust the supposedly unlocked CPU ratio on my 2500k. I USED to be able to use these settings before the BIOS flash. Also, I can't seem to find anyone online who's having a similar problem as me. As it stands now, the only overclocking I can do is with MSI's "OC Genie II", which basically automatically overclocks for me. I think this is totally ridiculous; why is MSI's automated tool allowed to touch these settings when I can't modify them manually?

Anyone have any idea what's going on? My first thought was that maybe there is a setting somewhere in the BIOS that must be enabled first in order to open up the overclocking settings, but I... Read more

Anyway, He said that it didn't need a bios update, even the Samsung website said this computer needed a bios update. I posted this on hardware, firmware concerns, and they told me to post here, I was going to go to a site ,that had a download that checked drivers, I was told to stay away from this.

Hello everyone! I ama new user and i am coming up with this post as I couldn`t find any kind of solution for my problem.Recently I decided to do a reinstallation of my operating system, which also previously was Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). The installation went as usual, and after finishing it I went on to install all the latest drivers from the Lenovo site, for my product. When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i`ve needed, i stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop, by the producer. So i proceeded to install the upgrade, restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so, but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual. At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing, things that i did not understand at the time (i have never encountered anything like that). After that my screen turned black. I have not done anything for a few couple of minutes as i thought it was supposed to be like that, but then i just force shut it down and unplugged the AC adapter. When trying to boot it all up again, the only thing i got was a black screen and nothing else. After doing a little bit of research it appears that, somehowm i`ve managed to corrupt the bios on my laptop or something, and nothing else would work at this point. I tried to remove the BIOS battery and the ram and then put them all back, trye... Read more

Hello all, this is my first time posting here so please forgive any mistakes/oversights. I've just updated my Samsung laptop's system BIOS via their software update program, and my Nvidia GPU (GT 650m DDR3) no longer seems to work. The Nvidia control panel is still there, and it still gives me the option to select which programs use the GPU, but there is no GPU actitivity showing up. Also,I've tried playing Skyrim (which auto-detects the PC's graphics cards) , and the game no longer seems to detect the Nvidia GPU (just the Intel integrated graphics).

My laptop model is NP550PC7, with 6 gig of ram, and an i7 quad core CPU, and the OS is Window 7 Home Premium 64bit.

I've tried looking in the BIOS but I can't seem to find anything related to the GPU or display options. Any help or avice is much appreciated.

Hi,

Have you updated your GPU with the latest drivers?

http://www.geforce.co.uk/drivers

Please navigate to:

Look under "Display Adapters"

Is the Nvidia GPU listed there? If so are there any yellow symbols etc?

Hi,

Its there any BIOS diskette image-archive I can dowload to perform the BIOS upgrade in the BIOS?

They have access to Toshiba database and they can obtain all this for you. Make a call and ask for help. I am pretty sure they will help you to solve this BIOS issue.

Dear all, Since the beginning I got troubles with charging - ( 94 % plugged in, not charging). The easiest solution was just remove the battery, but not for HP Omen. I removed battery and destroyed the rubber on the bottom. I had to open the laptop, because one morning I got the massegae that my laptop is overheated and fan does not work properly. Both fans works only during the lounch, when windows works only one fan was in operations, second one never starts again. Looking for the solution in the internet I have found that this can be because of BIOS is not updated.  I pushed F2, checked the the system, everything is fine and then I installed only one version which I have found there. No massages regarding overheating any more, both Fans are working full power and very very loud. Temperature of processors is 30C. In my room 25C.  I followed all instructions, but got massege BIOS update is blocked.I downloaded the most previous version, again BIOS update is blocked.Current version of bios is BIOS version F00 04Sep14.  Can it be solved somehow?

Made the huge mistake of updating BIOS. Had small MOBO usb prob, and for some reason thought a BIOS update would do something. Wasn't too worried because Gigabyte touts Dual BIOS pretty strong.

Anyway, tried updating BIOS, then system would not boot, so the Backup BIOS didn't kick in. btw, the MOBO is a Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro.

So I copied the backup bios to a floppy and used the floppy to fix the main bios. OK, now computer would boot, but would freeze up after the desktop icons appear. Actually would sometimes work for a few minutes, but always froze up.

Boots OK to safe mode, even to the point of getting online, so I downloaded the old bios from Gigabyte, put them on floppy and used that to update the main bios. Same result.

Also did a system restore from XP Pro Safe Mode (because XP wrongly states that this can be undone; didn't find out that System Restore done from safe mode cannot be undone until I tried to undo!).

My tech support (ABS Computer; they rule) thinks that the BIOS is now fine, that some windows files are corrupt and a re-install will fix problem and mobo is probably fine as well. I'll buy that.

anyone have any miracle suggestions before i re-install? Is a repair install worth a shot? Really not looking forward to re-installing all my software and putting all my data back where it belongs to get my email hist., bookmarks, etc. back.

thanks - I will now write the following 500 times: LEAVE THE BIOS ALONE! even with Dual BIOS

I would quit while you are ahead.

You only ever upgrade a BIOS to correct a hardware issue that you are actually experiencing. A real percentage of BIOS flashes go bad, and on a laptop that usually means the motherboard is toast.

Flashing the BIOS is not a recreational activity, I would only do it if a gun was pointed at my head...

I think you should use version 1.10I downgraded the BIOS on an Acer desktop a couple nights ago and didn't have any problem. But then again, my BIOS is flashed via DOS.  I see yours is an application.  Someone found a workaround for the version check: http://community.acer.com/t5/Notebooks-Netbooks/Aspire-V3-772G-BIOS-downgrade/m-p/305412#U305412

Hi, I saw the new BIOS version 1.25 dated ?14?.?09?.?2016 appearing on Lenovos support site. I did not check the version I was having on my system before downloading the "new BIOS", so I started the installer and the tool told me I already have this BIOS version. msinfo32.exe tells me I am having BIOS 1.25 dated 13.07.2016. So apparently the BIOS was released already some time ago and I already flashed it to 1.25. So whats the point of re-releasing the 1.25? If there are any changes of todays version compared to the 1.25 released some time ago, is it worth flashing? If yes, how can I do this if the tool tells me I am already having the latest version and it does not let me override my BIOS? Thanks and best regards,Martin

I have a Lenonvo H50-55 desktop with an AMD A10-7800 APU (3.5GHz), 12GB RAM, 2 HDD's, and an Nvidia GTX 750 video card, running Windows10 Home x64. My current BIOS  version is IRKT54AUS, and the latest available version on Lenovo's update page for my machine is IRKT57AUS. When I try to flash my BIOS from the downloaded update file, I get the error message in the subject. I am starting everything with Admin privileges, but that makes no difference. If it's a Lenovo machine with stock BIOS, why am I getting an "unknown vendor" message? Inquiring minds want to know  TIA!

If you don't see earlier versions listed here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/100-series/100-15iby?beta=false or in the BIOS download page: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/100-series/100-15iby/downloads/DS10280... then it's not publicly available.

A:Problems after Bios Downgrade

Oh boy. That does not sound good.

A bad BIOS flash can "brick" a computer. Let us now hope that is not the case.

First: try a CLRTC procedure:
Shut down the computer > remove the power cord.
Remove the 3v battery.
Move the CLRTC jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3.
Touch a metal part of the case and Press and Hold the reset button for approx. 30 seconds to discharge all power from the board.
Put the CLRTC jumper back on pins 1-2.
Replace the 3v battery > replace the power cord > boot.
Immediately go back into BIOS and reset all your preferred settings. If the CLRTC worked you will need to reset the date and time.
If you cannot get back into the BIOS after the CLRTC, then your next step will be to replace the BIOS chip.

You can order a chip from ASUS and solder it to the board yourself (or if you are fortunate, the chip will be the plug-in kind), or you can have a reputable service guy do it, or send the board back to ASUS for repair.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Hi all, I need to do a BIOS dowgrade my Dell 1545 A14 to A13 version, I searched information about how to do it but I get an error at the time of the downgrade, what I did was:1) Create a bootable usb boot2) Set the BIOS file to downgrade, here is 1545A13.exe3) Restart the computer and press f124) Choose boot from USB5) Run the file 1545A13.exe using / forceit or / forcetype. The file runs but get an error that says "ERROR. BIOS update canceled by the user"This is a picture of the mistake so well understood.

The Computrace is enabled and does not allow me to disable it in the BIOS, do not know if this will have anything to do, but attached a picture.

The error comes automatically because I did not press any keys. I would like to know what is this and how do I do to downgrade my BIOS since I'm doing everything correctly and I need to go back to one or more earlier. regards

A:I can not do downgrade BIOS 1545

Hi Jorwen,
May I know the reason you are trying to downgrade BIOS?
Dell doesnot recommend downgrading BIOS beacuse every BIOS update would have some new fixes and enhancements.
Refer the following link for more information about downgrading BIOS on the computer:
http://dell.to/14HF2IZ

During BIOS update verify that the computer is connected to an AC Adapter.
Disconnect any third party peripherals connected to the computer before performing BIOS update.
Do not turn off the computer during the BIOS update.
Do not restart the computer during the BIOS update.
Ensure battery charge is more than 30% during BIOS update.

Note: Plug your computer to a good, working wall jack before you update the BIOS. If you experience a loss of AC power or a significant voltage sag/spike during the BIOS flash, you will either have to buy a new BIOS chip or buy a new motherboard.
Awaiting your response!

Hello everyone,

I upgraded the BIOS on my Z30-B-119 laptop, and it is much worst than the original BIOS so I would like to downgrade it.
There was no way to save the original BIOS when updating and the previous BIOS is not available on the website.

Do anyone have the original BIOS and knows how to extract it?

Or maybe someone knows how to contact Toshiba technical team directly? (Seeing what they implemented in new BIOS, I have no hopes they read this forum or care about user opinions.)

If you wonder why I want to downgrade and what is wrong with it, see below for explanation.

I was convinced that the new BIOS would fix the problem with the fan, which switched on way too early, but it turned out they made it much worst! Now the fan switches on at 42?. Before it was 50?, which was already a stupid choice of Toshiba engineers, providing that the temperature rating of this CPU is 105? so they could keep the laptop quiet at least up to 60?, especially that many people complain about the fan in this model. Instead, Toshiba did the opposite and lowered the temperature even more.

Seeing how senseless choices their engineers make, I will never buy another Toshiba and will not recommend anyone buying their products. But since I already made the mistake an bought a Toshiba laptop, I hope I will be able to downgrade the BIOS or contact them to ask for an update.

Let me know if you know how to do it.

Some time in 2015 Lenovo updated many of their BIOS versions to address a security vulnerability describe here:https://support.lenovo.com/br/en/product_security/s3_boot_protectFor my G50-45 notebook that says the first BIOS version containing this fix is 2.03 A2EC34WW 2015/03/23.My computer currently has the lastest - A2CN38WW(V2.06) date: 07/15/2015I think the newer BIOS versions have broken the suspend/sleep, hybernate, and wakeup funtionality of my computer when running Linux (my system is dual-boot Windows 10 and Ubuntu Linux).  Can I downgrade my BIOS version?  If I downgrade will Windows 10 still function properly? What is the minimum BIOS version I should use and where can I download it from?  It seems Lenovo only supplies the latest version.  The BIOS Readme file says that the version prior to A2EC34WW is  (A2CN26WW)1.08 2014/11/04 but this was before Windows 10 came out, so will it still work for Win10?

Hello! I have had my laptop on service for a simple fix of the USB ports and when i got the laptop back the service center had updated my BIOS to ver 1.16 (jduj06ww.exe) according to levono support site. Problem is that I need to have BIOS ver 1.06 flashed into my laptop because of later versions the DVMT pre-allocated size to 128mb and it wont work with OS X. When i try the BIOS flash file ver 1.06 from the lenovo support site (jduj01ww.exe) the laptop reboot and when the flash process is about to start i simply get the "secure flash authentication failed" message and the laptop reboot. And yes i have rollback enables in the security setting in the BIOS settings. Is there something i have missed? or is the BIOS just locked for downgrading? Someone have any advice? I need to get below BIOS ver 1.12 at least i think but 1.06 would be the best. Is there a way to flash the bios from DOS and force it? Regards Fred.

Pull out your CMOS battery and keep it out for an hour or so, with the main battery also removed. Your BIOS should go back to the one that the machine had been shipped with in the first place once you put everything back.

Please let me know whether the above step helped you.
Thank you, have a good day.

I have a P50T-B-10K laptop and have recently installed UEFI version 1.5.

Unfortunately, it looks like it has buggy support for Intel virtualization. When virtualization option is set to off, programs which use VT-x correctly detect that it's turned off. When it's set to VT-x option, then software which needs virtualization detects that virtualization is not supported.

It used to work fine with stock firmware (I think it was version 1.1 maybe?) and I think it worked fine with version 1.3, for which I have installation on my computer.

Unfortunately, installation for version 1.3 doesn't have any obvious way to do the downgrade.

Any ideas how to force it?

A:How to downgrade BIOS on Satellite P50t-B-10K?

You want to downgrade the BIOS?
This isn?t possible if you don?t have a traditional BIOS version.

On the Toshiba EU driver page you will find only the latest BIOS and the win-based BIOS version does not allow BIOS downgrade.

By the way: after BIOS update, you should load the BIOS default settings.

PS. The CPU i7-4700HQ supports definitely the VT-x

I have a BIOS which is "solve" the High pitched noise problem about the i5 CPU.
But I have the latest BIOS and since then I cannot downgrade to the older BIOS that "solves" the problem.

*My question is how to downgrade BIOS?*
Because I will not send my Toshiba to RMA any more because they will not repair it!!!

My Tecra S11 went to RMA 2? and 2 different Toshiba authorized service partner for about 1 month. None of them repaired my laptop! Most annoying thing is that hungarian services are absolute useless!! I have a 2 year old issue with the CPU high pitched noise.

They did not replaced the faulty CPU, they replaced the motherboard!!! for no reason. OMG!
Be very careful when you buy Toshiba laptop in Hungary, and its not the Toshiba's fault but the authorized service partners!!

Please Toshiba do something!

A:How to downgrade BIOS on Tecra S11 - annoying CPU

Hi

Why are you thinking that CPU needs to be replaced?
I assume the technicians have ran some diagnosis tests which helps to detect faulty parts? I assume CPU was not affected but the real issue was the motherboard (because it has been replaced)?.

However, what?s your problem exactly?
Why you want to downgrade the BIOS?

Hi Everyone!
Last weekend I downloaded the new BIOS version A06 for my Latitude E6430 from Dell's driver site. Installed it and most everything works fine, but when the laptop is connected to the docking station the external monitor doesn't show any boot screen until windows begins to load. So the pre-boot login screen isn't visible to me
A day later version A06 wasn't available on the dell site but A03 release again. Tried to downgrade vom A06 to A06 in order to solve my PBA problem, but the firmware doesn't install on my system. This is the error message I receive: "Firmware Downgrading blocked: Security features are enabled".
Is there any way to downgrade BIOS without changing the mainboard?!?
Thank you for your help!

A:Latitude E6430 BIOS Downgrade

Hi Stargoose,
It is imperative to have 'administrative privileges' before attempting BIOS upgrade/downgrade. Please ensure that you log into 'Windows' with an account that has 'admin credentials'.
1. If you already have the 'admin rights' the 'security features' in the system BIOS may be preventing the BIOS downgrade. Please get into the BIOS set-up and try disabling the below mentioned 'security options' before you flash the A03 BIOS version:
- Restart the laptop- As 'Dell logo' appears on the screen, repeatedly tap < F2 > to enter BIOS system set-upNote: Mouse is non-functional on this screen. Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to navigate; < Enter > to select a value in the selected field (if applicable) or follow the link in the field; < Spacebar > to expand or collapse a drop-down list; < Tab > to move to the next focus area; < Esc > to move to the previous page till you get a main screen (Also gives an option to save any unsaved changes)
- Navigate to 'Security' table- Disable 'Intel TXT (LT-SX) Configuration'- Disable 'TPM Security'- Save changes- Exit system setup- Boot to 'Windows'
2. Downgrade BIOS to A03 by running the file as an 'Administrator'- Download the BIOS file that you want to install- Right click the file and click 'Run as an administrator'- Click 'Yes' if prompted with 'User access control' message- Fo... Read more

I recently upgraded the HDD in my Inspiron 15Z 5523. I restored the HDD from a Windows 10 backup image and all went well. I discovered that the Intel Rapid Storage Technology was not working. In the course if trying to get it working I inadvertently changed the SATA mode setting in BIOS for from Intel rapid storage to AHCI. I realized what I had done and restarted right away to BIOS and changed it back. Since then getting the laptop to boot is hit or miss. I won't get the Dell boot splash unless I cycle the power repeatedly until it displays the Dell Logo. then it boots fine. I've run the tests by hitting Power+Fn, everything passes. I've put back the original HDD, same problem. I've run the motherboard diagnostic on the Dell support site and it passes. I've taken the machine apart and removed the main battery and the CMOS battery. The problem remains. When it is working it runs all the time without any issue, until it hibernates or restarts. Then I have trouble getting it to boot again.

Had this thing running since my last post. I had turned off sleep and hibernate, only allowing the screen to dim and never shutting down. I have been able to manually restart Windows 10 many times. However, this morning it was sitting there non responsive with black screen and keyboard still lit.
I pressed the power button and it shut off right away. Pressed the power button again and and it returned to black screen with lit keyboard. Installing from DVD is less likely to solve the issue.I would suggest carefully reading the below tutorial and follow instructions as a first step.

Usually most of the Dell machines are downgadable if correct BIOS settings are applied.

I was attempting to use the latest BIOS to help diagnose wifi problems with Ubuntu 16.04. The update to F35A went fine (sp77035) . Alas, Ubuntu still locks up with recent BIOS (can't even boot to recovery mode) so I need to downgrade back to F24A (sp69916). This is the last known good version for Ubuntu. The downgrade fails however. I can assemble a USB recovery disk using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI 6.1.1.0A (sp76284), and put the F24A BIOS files on there. However, when attempting the update it tells me that this image is not intended for my hardware. In fact, I have the same issue with all versions of the BIOS older than F35A that I have tried. Does anyone know if I'm doing anything wrong in this process? The laptop ships with freedos and has no windows licence, so I need to work by creating USB recovery devices from a different workstation. It also does not have an HP_TOOLS partition. I suspect that either the F35A BIOS has broken downgrades somehow (perhaps changing some machine id being reported so the old bioses no longer registere as valid for this hardware). Or that I'm using an invalid version of HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI (I've also tried 5.9.0.0 (sp72895), but have been able to unpack any older versions on my Windows workstation being told 'a newer version is already installed' although I can't find *where* it is installed). Any ideas would be appreciated. At the moment I've got nice hardware that is essentially bricked.

Hello.I want to downgrade my BIOS because A12 causes me a very great problem. After I have A12, my laptop does not boot into a windows DVD and there is no option. If I change settings in BIOS by enabling LEGACY MODE and disabling UEFI mode, windows DVD boots but when setup begins and there is time to select partition for windows installation it tells me" This is GPT style partition and windows can not be installed on it.I tried googling and found a trick to go into CONSOL and CLEANED my hard drive then windows installed but the same problem occurs everytime I want to install windows. I have to format my hard drive everytime.Previously I was having A03 and it was working very good. Please tell me how to downgrade my BIOS so that my laptop runs in normal.

How to Downgrade Dell Inspiron N3542 BIOS from A12 to A06?
I upgraded my BIOS to A12. It change my Legacy BIOS to UEFI. Now I want to install windows afresh but it didn’t boot into windows disc or USB flash drive while secure boot mode enabled.
If I disable secure boot mode it boots into windows disc but pointer does not work in windows setup. I attached an external mouse and installed windows but when it finished installing, pointer don’t appear and touchpad not working even after installing latest touchpad driver.
If I change my UEFI to Legacy BIOS mode and boot into windows disk it install windows. While in windows setup it asks me to change GPT partition style to MBR partition style. I googled and did this but the medthod compelled me to clean me hard drive and loss all the data. Everytime I install winodws I have to clean my hard drive.
The installed windows is not working well with many errors and not allowing updates and many more things that I am not able to describe here.
I want to rollback my BIOS to previous version that is A06 so that I get all these problems solved.
I downloaded previous version of BIOS from Dell website but when I run it It tells me Dell don’t recommend to downgrade and closed.
Please guide me how can I downgrade it.

I am trying to get my system to reconize my new 60gig IBM HDD. It will show 61 in the bios (with incorrect cylinders, heads ect) but only 8.4 after boot up. After searching this site (by the way is great) I have come to realize that I either need to update my bios or attemp to use a "overlay" program. It's all new to me but I have contacted Award Bios for an evaluation on wich update I need (still waiting back from them). I have been looking at EZ-Disc for $19 from there site and it look like it could be a fix also. My main question (s) are should I go with the update or EZ? Does Award charge for the updates? Is this actually a fix? I did a Belarc Advisor profile and come up with this- System Model (I'm not sure what this means) VIA Tech. VT82C692BX, Main Circ. Board 693-596-ITE8661. How to tweak my ABIT MAX boards for good performance? (AT7 / KX7-333)

Don't know if you have read this FAQ at www.abit.com.tw but you could try some of the settings that they advise for more performance. From what I can tell your system should automatically set the fsb and clock multiplier. Unless you are talking about overclocking the fsb you shouldn't need to set anything else.

The Abit Softmenu III Bios software should allow you to play with the fsb speed and also set the PCI speed to fixed at 33Mhz so that you don't encounter any PCI devices limiting a stable fsb setting...

A:RAM settings in bios

What is your memory voltage at? Those chips should have a voltage of 2.6 according to their specs, so if you're running lower than that it's not too surprising that you can not reach stock speed.

If you are running with voltage at 2.6, then you could have gotten "faulty" chips. (Faulty in that they can not reach the adverticed speeds).

What motherboard are you running them in? And what PSU do you have?

Hi,

MOBO, ASUS M3A78-EM, installed devices, 1 x sata 11 HD, 1 x floppy, 1x dvd rom, ( IDE), 1 x sata DVD/CD drive, 1 x sata front panel multi port hub.

I?ve been trying to resolve some issues I have with boot times and I don?t understand some of my bios settings, could someone advise me please or correct my selections.

1) IDE dvd rom set as master, ( no slave ).
2) SATA 1 = HD.
3) SATA 2 = DVD/CD drive.
4) SATA 3 = multi port hub.
5) Onchip Sata chanel 1 = enabled.
6) Onchip Sata type = Sata, but options for RAID or AHCI.

POWER
7) Suppend mode = Auto.
8) ACPI 2.0 support = disabled.
9) acpi-APIC support = enabled.

Boot Sequence.
10) SATA 1 = HD.
11)SATA 2 = DVD/CD drive.
12) Floppy, ( can?t see the IDE DVD drive but can see it elsewhere and drive works ).
Please see 1,2,3,4, which drive does gets priority here on boot up, I hopping it's number 3/11, ( same drive ), or do I need to change sequence.

Advance, Internal Graphics
13) AMD 780 HD Audio = Enabled, ( I have no HD devices fitted, I have legacy 97 Audio enabled elsewhere ).
14) Audio Controller = Enabled
15 ) SPDIF outmode setting = SPDIF output, (option to select HDMI).

A:My Bios Settings

If you don't have a Hard drive RAID setup you can safely disable the sata chip for RAID.

You can also disable the DVD and floppy from the boot sequence. Just leaving the Hard Drive. That sometimes saves a few seconds. (re-enable them only when you need to boot from disk/dvd etc. They will still work within Windows if disbaled from the boot sequnce)

You can probably enable the ACPI 2.0 safely (advanced power management). However if it does cause issues, just disabled it again. It won't save you any time at boot, but will help with things like Sleep/Hibernate

The AMD 780 HD is an on-board High Definition Audio device. Try setting all options to HD instead of legacy 97

SPDIF is the digital output to things like stereos, surround systems etc. (yellow plug) Not needed if you plug speakers straight into the green/blue speaker jack ports.

Hello,
I'm trying to learn more about BIOS and it's settings, here are some settings that I'm not sure about:
HDD SMART Capability - Disabled (The manual says i should Enable this if i want to use a HDD monitoring program, which i use)
SATA Port0-1 Native Mode - Disabled (The manual says i should Enable this for XP)
Parallel Port Mode - SPP (I read in a guide that it would be better to change this to "ECP + EPP")
HPET Support - Enabled (It says it only works with Vista, should i disable it for XP?)
These are the ones I'm not sure about, anyone could tell what are the benefits or drawbacks of changing them?

Mobo: Gigabyte P35-DS3
OS: Win XP SP3

A:BIOS Settings

The BIOS default settings are usually okay as they are.

If you start changing settings without really knowing what you're doing, you can be left with non-working devices or a non-working computer.

I upgraded my RAM and now my AMD Athlon 3200 processor is being read as 1100MHz. I guess i need to reset the BUS speed but I'm not sure to what as the automatic setting appears to be wrong. I have a PCChips M848A motherboard.

A:BIOS Settings

because it defaulted to 1100mhz, that would meen a multiplyer of 11 and a fsb of 100. The XP3200 with an 11 multiplyer has a 200fsb. So you need to change the CPU frequancy in the BIOS from 100 to 200mhz. If there is an option to run the RAM at the same speed as the CPU FSB and you put slow memory in (PC2700 or something) then the MB may have set the CPU fsb to match the memory. Some motherboards alow you to change the CPU and memory speeds seperately. If the memory is slower then DDR400 (PC3200) then you may have to run the memory at 166 or 133mhz and the CPU @ 200MHz. Hope this helps.

- CMOS SETTINGS WRONG
- CMOS DISPLAY TYPE WRONG
I would then go through to the CMOS Setup but I'm not sure what to do, I have noticed that the time is incorrect and so I would change to the present time and save on exit. I would then go through to start up again and the following message appears:
- NO A/: PRESENT (or something to this affect)

I am still able to get through to Window 95 startup but 5 mins into startup and then the mouse would stop moving and the PC would appear to lockup and so I would restart and then find that nothing would happen on screen.
I'm hoping that someone may be able to assist me as to where I should start to fix this problem.

You can start to learn what hardware you have by downloading Everest Free:
http://www.lavalys.com
It will tell you about the SMART status of your disk drives and the temperatures of your System, CPU and Aux in addition to the rpms of your fans. Definitely do both the Quick and the Full Report.

The place where info and updates for your BIOS is located is at the website of the manufacturer of your motherboard.

The place where info and hard drive utilities is located is the manufacturer of your hard disk drives.

You can also learn by googling for example: "disk drive" & cyl
or checkout the hardware guides at http://www.tomshardware.com/index.html

If you are not interested in overclocking your processor or having problems booting up, which usually means some kind of hardware problem - best not to mess with the BIOS settings until you know what you are doing.

Some questions about setting up my BIOS.
My MBO is a P4P800 BIOS AMI 12000312 Ver: 08.00.09

I have a selection for 32bit transfer rate, this is disabled. What is this and should it be enabled?

I have a selection for Throttle slow clock ratio set at 50%. What is this and should I change the setting?

With setting up the HDs there is setting for PIO and DMA they are both set for auto, should I turn off the PIO mode or will it atomically select the right DMA setting?

thanks for any help
J

A:BIOS settings

32bit transfer should be set on otherwise it will use 16bit transfer which is obviously a hell of a lot slower - and ancient technology.
Throttle slow clock is the power saving mode of the CPU and is only useful when running a laptop on batteries - basically run at half speed when not doing heavy work.
Leave the PIO mode and DMA as AUTO
